MY TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR WAS LEAK OUT OF THE VENT ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION AND MY CAR WAS ON FIRE AND I SEE A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX COUPE NEW. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. MY HUSBAND DROVE IT TO WORK, PARKED IT AND WENT INSIDE THE BUILDING. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES AN EMPLOYEE CAME IN AND SAID THERE WAS SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. IT WAS ON FIRE. SOME EMPLOYEES IMMEDIATELY WENT OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THE WIRING HARNESS AND SURROUND AREAS WERE BURNT AND MELTED. MY INSURANCE TOTALED THE CAR WITH $4,100. IN DAMAGES. I CALLED GM REGARDING THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THEY DID NOT SAY THEY HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS, ONLY NO RECALLS. I HAD SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND ALL SORTS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING FIRES WITH THE GRAND PRIX. THIS WEEK I SAW WHERE THEY HAVE RECALLED THE GRAND PRIX SEDANS. MY CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AS THE SEDAN. IF THE CAR HAD BEEN IN MY GARAGE IT WOULD HAVE BURNT MY HOUSE DOWN AND POSSIBLE KILLED SOMEONE. I TOLD GM I WANTED THIS REPORTED BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO SEE ANYONE HARMED. I FEEL THE COUPE ALSO NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GP AND WHEN IT WOULD RUN FOR AWHILE, OR I WOULD DRIVE A LOT IN A DAY, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO SHIFT HARDER. ON THE HIGHWAY IT WOULD BE ESPECIALLY BAD OR FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT GOING FROM STOPPED TO HIGHWAY SPEED. IT WOULD SHIFT HARD AND SOUNDED TERRIBLE. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP, AND THEY FOUND OUT THEY WOULD HAVE TO RE-BUILD MY TRANSMISSION! AT A TOTAL COST OF OVER $2500 TO ME! HAD I NOT TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOP, MY TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY FAILED, AND COULD HAVE LED TO A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND A MORE COSTLY REPAIR. *TR
2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED ALTERNATER CATALYTIC CONVERTER ALL REPLACED ON THE SAME DAY. *TR
THE FACTORY PASSKEY 3 SECURITY SYSTEM HAS NUMEROUS TIMES FAILED AND GAVE ME NUISANCE ALARMS. NOW IT IS TO THE POINT THAT MY OWN CAR THINKS I AM STEALING IT AND WILL NOT DRIVE. IT WILL TURN OVER AND THEN SHUT OFF IN 3 SECONDS, I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS FOR THE 3 DAYS I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE FIX I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A GM DEALER AND THEN PAY GM TO FIX THE PROBLEM THEY CREATED WHEN THEY INSTALLED THE FAULTY SECURITY SYSTEM. I SPENT MY HARD EARNED MONEY ON A CAR WITH A PROBLEM AND NOW I HAVE TO SPEND MY HARD EARNED MONEY TO FIX A PROBLEM THEY GAVE ME. NOW I KNOW WHY AMERICAN CARS ARE GOING TO CEASE TO EXIST. *TR

ON 2/14/09 AT 8:30 PM CENTRAL TIME, A FIRE OCCURRED IN THE HOOD OF MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CAR WAS PARKED AND OFF WHEN THE FIRE OCCURRED. FLAMES WERE SIGHTED AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. THE POLICE AND FIRE STATION WERE NOTIFIED PROMPTLY. *TR

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V116000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND IS STILL WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE HEAD GASKET WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE ELECTRICAL FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. ON A LATER DATE, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V116000. A CLAIM WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 120,000. I JUST BOUGHT A USED 2 DOOR GRAND PRIX GTP (2000) AND NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK AND THE HAZARD SWITCH IS JAMMED. I SEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND SAW THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. I THINK WAY MORE PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO REPORT IT TO. *TR
MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP CAUGHT FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ABOUT 15 MINUTES AFTER I HAD PARKED AT THE MALL. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR, AND ON THE WAY TO THE MALL IT DROVE NORMAL. THE CAR CAN NOT BE FIXED AND IS CONSIDERED TOTALED. *TR

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, SMOKE APPEARED THROUGH THE AIR VENTS AND THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND OBSERVED FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO DAMAGES OR PERSONAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER LOT. IT HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED IF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 211,000.
I NOTICED DEEP CRACKS ON THE INSIDE WALL OF TWO TIRES AS I PREPARED TO ROTATE. I REMOVED TIRES FROM VEHICLE AND TOOK ONE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT RECALLED THE TIRES AND MY ONLY REMEDY WAS A PRORATING BASED ON TREAD WEAR. I CONTACTED MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. *TR
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. I DECIDED TO STOP AND GET GAS BEFORE GOING HOME. I STOPPED GOT GAS AND WHEN I STARTED MY CAR A LITTLE SMOKE CAME OUT THE SIDES OF THE HOOD. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT BECAUSE IT WASN T ALOT. AND SO I KEPT DRIVING ABOUT 2 BLOCK AWAY I HAD MORE SMOKE COMING OUT. I WAS ONLY 3 BLOCKS FROM HOME SO I DECIDED TO JUST GET HOME. MORE AND MORE SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT I LOST A LITTLE POWER AND THEN A FLAME SHOT INTO THE CAR. I WAS HEADED UP THE HILL TO MY HOUSE AND STILL CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER AS I GOT RIGHT INFRONT OF MY HOUSE I COULDN'T MOVE FORWARD AND STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS DOWN THE HILL AND THEN MY BRAKES GAVE OUT AND THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED ME WAS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. BY THIS TIME FLAMES WERE SHOOTING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I GRABBED EVERYTHING THAT I THOUGHT WAS IMPORTANT, RAN IT INTO MY HOUSE. WENT BACK OUT, CALLED THE FIRE DEPT AND RAN INTO GET MY FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT BY THAT TIME THE FIRE DEPT WAS THERE IT TOOK THEM ABOUT 10 MIN TO PUT THE FIRE OUT BECAUSE WE COULDN'T GET THE HOOD OPEN AND SO JUST WHEN WE THOUGHT IT WAS OUT IT WASN'T. FINALLY WHEN IT WAS OUT THEY OPENED THE HOOD. EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD WAS DESTROYED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V118000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE, THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. THE DEALER FOUND NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE AND, IF THE ISSUE WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE MECHANIC, THEN THE CONTACT WOULD BE CHARGED FOR THE REPAIRS. THE RECALL NOTICE STATED THAT DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW FRONT (LEFT) ROCKER COVER GASKET WITH AN IMPROVED DESIGN FROM THE ORIGINAL GASKET AND REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE CHANNEL WITH NEW RETAINERS. THE MECHANIC FAILED TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE CHANNEL ON THE VEHICLE AND ONLY REPLACED THE FRONT COVER GASKET. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 90,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT SMELLED A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT, SMOKE APPEARED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM THE ROCKER CABLES. THE VEHICLE THEN CAUGHT FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH A BUCKET OF WATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE OIL LEAKING FROM THE MANIFOLD CAUSED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR SLIGHTLY LESS THAN $1,100; HOWEVER, IT CONTINUED TO SMOKE AND OIL CONTINUED TO LEAK. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 130,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL INCIDENTS WITH MINOR SPARKS AND FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE ENGINE COVER MELTED ONTO THE ENGINE, AND THE SPARK PLUGS NEEDED RE-WIRING. IN THE SECOND INCIDENT, THE ENGINE MELTED THE SPARK PLUGS AND ADDITIONAL WIRING. IN THE THIRD INCIDENT, THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE DRIVEWAY AFTER WORK. MINUTES LATER, HE NOTICED A SMALL FIRE COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. SHE THEN PROCEEDED TO CALL 911 AND, WITHIN MINUTES, THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS ENGULFED IN SMOKE. THE FAILURE TURNED INTO A FULL BLOWN FIRE AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD WAS EVACUATED DUE TO THE DANGER OF A POSSIBLE EXPLOSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE JUNK YARD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V118000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND WAS INFORMED BY GM THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE SLIGHTLY OVER 100,000.
I WAS DRIVING HOME AND STOPPED TO LET MY SON OUT TO VISIT HIS FRIEND. WHEN HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. I GOT AROUND THE CORNER TO MY HOUSE AND MY CAR BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND I COASTED INTO THE DRIVEWAY. AT THAT POINT THERE WAS SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD AND MY HUSBAND OPENED IT. THERE WERE FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD AND MY HUSBAND PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A HOSE. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR AND IGNITION WIRES, SO FAR. I AM NOT SURE WHAT ELSE IS DAMAGED AT THIS POINT. THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING FINE PRIOR TO THIS. *TR
THERE IS A RECALL ON THE CAR FOR LEAKING ROCKER COVER GASKETS WHICH MAY LEAD TO FIRES. THE RECALL ONLY COVERS THE FRONT GASKET (SEEMINGLY BECAUSE IT IS CHEAPER AND EASIER TO REPLACE) YET BOTH GASKETS LEAK. THE REAR GASKET IS LEAKING WORSE THAN THE FRONT BUT THE RECALL DOESN'T COVER THE REPAIR.
2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX WITH RECALL FOR ENGINE OIL LEAK. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR OIL LEAK. CONSUMER HAD THE HEAD GASKET REPAIRED. HE THEN RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. MANUFACTURER WILL ONLY REIMBURSE PARTIAL. *KB THE PROBLEM WAS THE VALVE COVER GASKET WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAD THE REPAIRS MADE AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. GM INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT ONLY A PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT WOULD BE MADE BECAUSE HAD THE DEALER PERFORMED THE REPAIRS, IT WOULD HAVE ONLY TAKEN AN HOUR TO COMPLETE.
ON 5/15/2008 I PURCHASED A WHEEL BEARING FROM ADVANCED AUTO PARTS FOR MY 2000' PONTIAC GRAND PRIX PART # NT513121AND INSTALLED IT THE SAME DAY AS PER SPECIFICATIONS. ON 5/31/2008 MY SON WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO PICK ME UP FROM WORK WHEN HE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE FRONT WHEEL HAD SUDDENLY FELL OFF THE CAR. SOMEONE SUMMONED THE POLICE AND A TOW TRUCK. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO MY HOME AND I FOUND THAT ALL 5 STUDS HAD BROKEN OFF OF THE BEARING HUB. ON 6/1/2008 I PURCHASED A NEW BEARING (BETTER QUALITY). AT THAT TIME I DID NOT RETURN THE DEFECTIVE BEARING. I RETURNED HOME AND INSTALLED THE NEW BEARING. ON 6/2/2008 WHEN I RETURNED TO WORK I HAD A ROCKWELL HARDNESS TEST DONE ON THE ONLY REMAINING STUD. WE FOUND IT ONLY HAD RC OF 22. BY THE STAMPING ON THE STUD (10.9 METRIC) WHICH IS EQUIVALENT TO GRADE 8 OR 33 TO 44 R.C. THIS WAS A GRADE 3 CASE HARDENED STUD WHICH SHOWED A TENSION BREAK. I THEN CALLED THE MANUFACTURER NTP BEARING (1800-322-8983) AND TOLD THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. WHAT HAD HAPPENED. HE TOLD ME TO RETURN THE BEARING WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND INCLUDE MY NAME, ADDRESS AND WHERE I COULD BE CONTACTED FOR ANY CLAIM. THE REASON I AM REPORTING THIS IS IF THERE ARE MORE BEARINGS ON THE MARKET WITH THIS DEFECT IT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC IF THIS HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF NTP FOLLOWS UP. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT, BULB AND FUSE OK, DEALER TESTED AND SAID MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IS CAUSING ISSUE ALTHOUGH ALL OTHER LIGHTS ARE FINE AND FUNCTIONING. REPLACE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH, BULBS OK. MILEAGE 130,000. *TR
OIL LEAK FROM REAR VALVE COVER, RECALL TO REPLACE FRONT COVER BUT REAR WAS LEAKING ALSO, PAID DEALER TO REPLACE. SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX UNDER HOOD FIRE SHORTLY AFTER PARKING IN DRIVEWAY. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER DAY OF INCIDENT .. NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO OFFER ME LESS THAN HALF THE KELLY BLUE BOOK VALUE OF THE CAR PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. *TR
IN LATE 2007 MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT TIRES FOR MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WE PURCHASED P225/60R16 YOKOHAMA AVID TOURING. SINCE OUR PURCHASE I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS UNRESOLVED PROBLEMS. WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON THESE TIRES, THEY HAVE BEGUN TO DRY ROT OR CRACK AROUND THE RIM. I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT THE SOTRE WHERE I PURCHASE THESE TIRES, THEY HAVE BEEN OF NO HELP. I ALSO HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INCIDENTS WHERE THE TIRES FAIL TO HOLD AIR. I DOUBT VERY SERIOUSLY MY CAR WILL EVER DRIVE ON A SET OF YOKOHAMAS EVER AGAIN. *KS* *TR
RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE ON MY 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX FOR VALVE COVER GASKET LEAK. UPON TAKING IT IN FOR INSPECTION BY GM DEALER FOUND OUT BOTH VALVE COVER GASKETS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE RECALL NOTICE WAS FOR ONLY THE FRONT VALUE COVER GASKET. I TOOK IT IN AND HAD THE REPAIRS DONE BUT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE REAR VALVE COVER GASKETS EVEN THOUGH IT LEAKS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 49,000 MILE ON IT SO I DON'T FEEL THIS SHOULD BE HAPPENING. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT. I HAVE SAT FOR TEN AND FIFTEEN MINUTES AT A TIME TRYING TO GET THE KEY TO COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS 95 DEGREES OR BETTER OUTSIDE. IT HAPPENS ABOUT 90% OF THE TIME WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR. I HAVE NOT BEEN TO GET ANY PARTS REPLACED BUT I READ ON AN INTERNET BLOG, WHERE PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ALL DIFFERENT YEARS AND MAKES, THAT IT COST ABOUT $400.00 TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE, THE CONTACT OBSERVED ENGINE OIL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE VALVE COVER GASKET. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

MY 2000 PONTIAC GTP WENT UP IN FLAMES THIS AFTERNOON DUE TO THE EXACT ISSUE OUTLINED IN THE SERVICE ADVISORY. DUE TO PONTIACS REFUSAL TO CORRECT THEIR SAFETY ISSUE, MY CAR IS TOTALED, AND I AM OUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. THROUGH RESEARCH I DISCOVERED , THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM, SOME 267 CASES REPORTED ON THE INTERNET, MANY HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS WITH PONTIAC AND YOUR AGENCY AS WELL, WITH NO RESULTS. WAS TOLD NOISE WAS DUE TO A # 3 CYLINDER INTAKE LIFER COLLAPSED AND BENT PUSH ROD. I PROCEEDED TO ARGUE THAT FAILURE TO SERVICE CAR ACCORDING TO TSB 03-06-01-016 'LOSS OF COOLANT, MILKY COLORED OIL CAUSED EITHER EXCESSIVE WEAR OF THE LIFTER OR CREATED HYDROLOC CONDITION'. TSB CLEARLY INDICATES PROBLEMS WITH INTAKE GASKETS AND RECOMMENDS REPLACEMENT IF COOLANT LOSS IS NOT FOUND TO BE CAUSED BY AN EXTERNAL LINK (I.E. PROBABLE CAUSE INTERNAL COOLANT LEAK). I OWN A 2000 PONTIAC GRAN PRIX GT. EVERYTIME I DRIVE IT, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS VERY "HARD". THIS ONLY CAN BE CORRECTED IF I PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (WHICH CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS) AND WAIT SEVERAL MINUTES AND RESTART THE CAR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE RPM'S STARTS TO "REV" UP AND DOWN CONSTANTLY WHETHER WHILE DRIVING OR SETTING WHILE IN PARK. I HAVE COME CLOSE TO SEVERAL WRECKS WHEN THIS HAPPENS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET. I WAS JUST DRIVING THROUGH MY HOME TOWN WHEN I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. PULLED OVER AND OPENED THE HOOD TO DISCOVER A SMALL FIRE AROUND THE OIL FILL TUBE ABOUT THE SIZE ON A BASEBALL CAP. HOOD INSULATION ON DRIVER SIDE WAS ALSO ON FIRE BUT HAD NEVER BEEN OIL SOAKED? FIRE MELTED PLASTIC COVER AND DAMAGED SOME WIRES AND MODULES AS IT SPREAD TO ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IN SECONDS, EVEN AFTER CLOSING HOOD. HOOD WAS AGAIN LIFTED APPROXIMATELY 1 MINUTE FROM INITIAL FIRE DISCOVERY AND FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED QUICKLY BY PASSING TRUCK DRIVER WITH EXTINGUISHER. A FEW MORE MINUTES ELAPSED BEFORE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IT WAS THEN NOTED BY MYSELF THAT THE GAS LINE AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE WAS STILL EMITTING A FINE STREAM OF GASOLINE AS I HAD NOT YET TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. IT WAS ALSO IN THIS GENERAL LOCATION THAT THE HOOD INSULATION MATERIAL WAS BURNING (A NON FLAMMABLE MATERIAL BY ITSELF). TO DATE NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE AS THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY 12/18/07. *TR

ON THE 16TH OF DECEMBER 2007, MY WIFE JUST GOT BACK FROM WALMART. WE UNLOADED SOME GROCERIES AND SOME CHRISTMAS PRESENTS.
