TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT 10 MPH WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY AND AS RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN TWO CRASHES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. AFTER THE MOST RECENT CRASH, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS UNKNOWN. UPDATED 12/29/10 *BF UPDATED 04/06/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GM PONTIAC VIBE. ON MAY 22, 2010, WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE APPROXIMATELY 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
EARLIER LAST WEEK I STARTED HEARING A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM BEHIND MY GLOVEBOX, AND UPON REMOVING THE GLOVEBOX DISCOVERED THAT THE DOOR THAT ALLOWS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE AIR INTO THE ACTUATOR (I THINK THIS IS CORRECT) IS CLICKING OPEN AND CLOSED. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON PONTIAC VIBES, I DISCOVERED THAT LITERALLY HUNDREDS IF NOT MORE PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO, AND WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM? NOTHING ABOUT THE OCCURRENCE SUGGESTS ANYTHING BUT A DEFECTIVE PART TO ME. *TR
MY 2006 PONTIAC VIBE HAS THE SAME STALLING PROBLEM AS COMPLAINT NUMBER 10295818. I SUBMIT THIS COMPLAINT IN LIGHT OF RECENT TOYOTA COROLLA/MATRIX STALLING INVESTIGATION. PONTIAC VIBE AND TOYOTA MATRIX SHARE MANY COMPONENTS. MY VIBE IS CURRENTLY AT COLONIAL BUICK PONTIAC GMC OF WATERTOWN, MA FOR REPAIR ON THIS MATTER. *TR
I ACCELERATE IN ANTICIPATION OF A HILL ON CA-13 IN OAKLAND CALIFORNIA. WHEN I NEAR THE CREST OF THE HILL, I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, AS THE ACCELERATION CONTINUES AND THE REVS SHOOT FROM ~3000 TO ~4500 - 5000. I NEED TO SWITCH THE CAR TO NEUTRAL TO CORRECT THIS. NOTHING ELSE SEEMS TO BRING DOWN THE REVS. I DO THIS DRIVE ONCE A DAY AND HAVE SINCE 2006, IT HAPPENS MAYBE EVERY 2 MONTHS, SO MAYBE 1 IN 50 TIMES I GO OVER THIS PARTICULAR HILL. I BELIEVE THE COMBINATION OF DOWNHILL, ACCELERATION, AND UPHILL MESSES UP THE THROTTLE CONTROLS SOMEHOW. *TR
2006 PONTIAC VIBE, WHICH IS THE SAME VEHICLE AT TOYOTA MATRIX. THIS IS ALSO HAVING THE STALLING PROBLEM, COMPUTER CODE PO607, REQUIRING A REPLACEMENT ECM, DESCRIBED IN NHTSA ACTION # PE09054 OF NOVEMBER 30, 2009. CAR STALLED WHILE MERGING ON HIGHWAY AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BY GETTING REAR-ENDED. THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW (12/15/09) AND I HAVE ASKED THE DEALER, BRUSTOLON GMC IN MYSTIC CT (860)536-2627 TO SAVE THE DEFECTIVE ECM/PCM AS EVIDENCE, BUT THEY WON'T WITHOUT CHARGING ME MORE BECAUSE THEY CLAIM IT IS A CORE RETURN! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC VIBE WITH TWO KUHMO TIRES, SIZE 205 55 R16(NA) OFF SEASON RADIAL, ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. SHE STATED THAT SHE PURCHASED THE TIRES BRAND NEW IN NOVEMBER OF 2008. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER; HOWEVER, SHE EXPERIENCED TOTAL TREAD SEPARATION ON BOTH TIRES. THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME IT WAS PURCHASED WAS 63,900 AND THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF THE TIRE FAILURE WAS 81,806. UPDATED 01/05/10 *BF UPDATED 01/06/10.*JB
O2 SENSORS KEEP FAILING. HAD AN INTAKE REPLACED EXACTLY 12MONTHS AGO, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON 4 MONTHS LATER, AGAIN JUST TODAY. HIGHLY IRRITATED. WHY IS THIS CAR EATING MY O2 SENSORS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT WAS STOPPED WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE. WHEN REMOVING HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
REAR PART OF THE HEAT SHIELD BELOW GAS TANK FELL DOWN ON EXHAUST PIPE CAUSING A RATTLE BETWEEN GAS TANK AND PIPE. THE PART THAT HOLDS UP THE REAR OF THE HEAT SHIELD IS PLASTIC CLIP WITH A METAL NUT INSIDE THAT ATTACHES TO THE GAS TANK STRAP AND WHEN IT FELL OFF THE METAL NUT WAS RUSTED AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SHIELD WHERE AS THE FRONT PART OF THE SHIELD HAS METAL TABS THE ARE USED TO ATTACH THE SHIELD TO. *TR
2006 PONTIAC VIBE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER TRAIN MODULE RECALL NOTICE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED ON JUNE 23, 2009, THE PCM UNIT FAILED ON THE VEHICLE AND IT HAD TO BE TOWED. THE REPAIR SHOP WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER, THAT THE PCM UNIT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, SO THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY $429.30. ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2009, THE PCM UNIT FAILED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT SINCE THE PREVIOUS WORK WAS NOT PERFORMED AT A DEALER AND HE DIDN'T KEEP THE PREVIOUS MALFUNCTIONING PART, THE REPLACEMENT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. THE COST WAS $605.92. THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB
AFTER A COLD MN WINTER (SUB-ZERO THIS YEAR) THE LENSES ON THE FOG LIGHTS ARE CRACKED, WITH MULTIPLE CRACKS THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE LENS. BOTH ARE THE SAME. *TR
DRIVING ON LEVEL SURFACE, ROLLED DOWN PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW. SHARP CRACK AND THUD. WINDOW SEPARATED FROM MOUNTS AND FELL INTO DOOR FRAME. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES. DEALER REFUSES TO REPAIR, WILL ONLY REPLACE WINDOW GLASS AND NOT ANY OTHER COMPONENT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 PONTIAC VIBE SOUTH ON INTERSTATE 79 IN RURAL PENNSLVANIA WHEN THE BRAKES SOUNDLY FAILED TO RESPOND. I STEPPED ON THE PEDDLE BUT THE CAR FAILED TO SLOW, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO DISENGAGE. TO AVOID AN HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I SWERVED INTO THE SHOULDER, CONTINUING TO APPLY THE BRAKES. AS I TRIED TO SLOW, THE CAR FISHTAILED AND I SKIDDED INTO THE INTERSTATE AGAIN AND HIT THE OPPOSITE GUARDRAIL. ANTILOCK BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE. FINALLY, WHEN I CRASHED, THE CAR'S AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY, DESPITE THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR CAVING IN (RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS OF THE CAR). FORTUNATELY, I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT AND DID NOT STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE, SO NONE ONE WAS HURT, BUT THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR
OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS, THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WOULD RATTLE GOING UP OR DOWN AND THEN PROGRESSED TO NOT GOING COMPLETELY UP OR COMPLETELY DOWN WHEN I PRESSED THE BUTTON. ON 3/7/2008 I ROLLED DOWN MY WINDOW IN THE EVENING AND WHEN I WENT TO ROLL IT BACK UP IT APPEARED 'OFF IT TRACK.' IT WOULD ROLL UP PARTIALLY AN IT WAS AT AN ANGLE. I DID NOT WANT TO FORCE IT BECAUSE IT APPEARED THAT THE GLASS WAS STRESSED AND WAS CLOSE TO SHATTERING. *TR
NO WARNING. DRIVING ON HWY. WHEN I THOUGHT I SEEN THE DASH FLASH, WENT OVER HILL LOST ALL POWER & ABILITY TO MANEUVER VEHICLE ON ICY HWY. VEHICLE HAD SHUT DOWN. WAS ABLE TO USE FOUR WAYS TO SIGNAL TRAFFIC I WAS HAVING AN EMERGENCY & COAXED CAR TO SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH MY VEHICLE STILL IN THE LANE OF TRAFFIC. NEEDED TO BE TOWED. TOTALLY INOPERABLE. I FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM IS A POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) WHICH HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON IT, #050604074; NHTSA ITEM # 10020810. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED FURTHER INTO MY TRIP TO WORK I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN HEAVY VOLUME TRAFFIC WITH NO CHANCE AT EVASIVE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE BECOMES UNABLE TO BE DROVE WHILE MOVING. A PERSON WITH LESS DRIVING ABILITY WOULD PROBABLY CRASHED DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN WHEEL, ETC. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
P0741 CODE HAS BEEN VERY COMMON WITH NEWER PONTIAC VIBES AND CARS ALIKE. IM JUST WONDERING IF THIS CAN INVESTIGATED AS A FAULTY PART OR LOW QUALITY PART ALL TOGETHER. *TR
THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW DOES NOT ROLL DOWN ALL THE WAY, AND WHEN YOU ROLL IT DOWN AS FAR AS IT GOES, IT SEEMS TO INTERFERE WITH THE DOOR MECHANISM SO YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR (IT FEELS LIKE THE WINDOW WILL BREAK IF YOU FORCE THE DOOR OPEN). I HAVE TIGHTENED THE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE DOOR HINGE ONTO THE DOOR, AND THAT SEEMED TO HELP, BUT STILL HAVE A PROBLEM. *TR
CONSUMER WRITES TO REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE PCM REPLACEMENT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE PCM WAS REPLACED TWICE AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A HARSH TRANSMISSION SHIFT AS WELL AS ENGINE STALLING. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC VIBE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS HE OPENED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SCRAPING FROM THE DOOR PANEL. AS HE CLOSED THE WINDOW, THE NOISE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT NOTICED A GROOVE SCRATCHED INTO THE WINDOW. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE GROOVE ON THE WINDOW PROGRESSIVELY BECAME WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED PERIODICALLY AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 15 MPH, IT WOULD SUDDENLY STALL. ALSO THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BUT NO REMEDY WAS ABLE TO BE OFFERED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 10V387000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT IT ONLY AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH TWO WHEEL DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER HEARING A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE LEFT REAR SEATBELT BUCKLE AND THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY NOT LOCKING, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DISCOVERED THERE WERE MISSING BOLTS IN THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY AND WITHOUT THOSE BOLTS; THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY WOULD NOT LOCK. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER, THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY WAS NOT REPAIRED.

2006 PONTIAC VIBE. CONSUMER SUGGESTS TOYOTA MATRIX AND COROLLA RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO INCLUDE HIS VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER BELIEVED HIS VEHICLE SHARES THE SAME POWER TRAIN AS THE MATRIX. THE CONSUMER STATED HE EXPERIENCED AN IDENTICAL FAILURE. *JB
