TAKATA RECALL NOTICE WSAS SENT OUT JAN 2017 THAT THE AIRBAG IN THE VEHICLE ARE AFFECTED. AS OF JUNE 2017, THE STATUS IS STILL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE.
RECEIVED NOTICE OF A RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS. TAKATA HAS FILED CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND IT IMPORTANT THAT THE REPLACEMENT IS COMPLETED ASAP. HAVE CONTACTED A DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL CORRECTED BUT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO REPLACEMENT PARTS TO MAKE THE REPAIR.
TAKATA RECALL. I CALLED CARL BLACK CHEVROLET, IN EAST ORLANDO, ON JULY 17, 2017, TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG REPLACED IN RESPONSE TO A RECALL. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE AND I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 10:00 ON JULY 24. I ASKED THEM IF THEY NEEDED THE VIN. THE RESPONSE WAS NO, THEY WOULD CHECK THE VIN WHEN I CAME IN. I ASKED IF THE AIRBAGS WERE AVAILABLE. THE RESPONSE WAS YES, THAT THEY WERE AVAILABLE. DURING THE WEEK, I STOPPED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO VERIFY THAT THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE AND TO DETERMINE HOW LONG THE REPAIR WOULD BE. THE PERSON I SPOKE TO SCANNED THE VEHICLE IN, VERIFIED THE EXISTENCE OF PARTS, BUT WARNED ME THAT THIS RECALL WOULD TAKE SEVERAL HOURS. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN ON JUNE 24, THE FELLOW IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE LOCALLY AND HE WOULD HAVE TO "SPECIAL ORDER" IT AND THAT THE ORDER WOULD TAKE AT LEAST A WEEK. I TOLD HIM OF MY PREVIOUS CONTACTS WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED HIM TO VERIFY. HE DISAPPEARED FOR A FEW MINUTES, CAME BACK, AND SAID THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. I ASKED WHY THE OTHER PEOPLE HAD TOLD ME THAT THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. HE SAID THAT HE COULD NOT SPEAK FOR THEM, BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND WOULD NEED TO BE "SPECIAL ORDERED", WHICH WOULD TAKE "AT LEAST A WEEK AND POSSIBLY CONSIDERABLY MORE". I ASKED IF SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN AND THEY SAID MAYBE, BUT I SHOULD CALL THEM. IT SEEMED PRETTY CLEAR THAT THESE PEOPLE DID NOT WANT TO REPAIR MY CAR. THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE JUST ENFORCING GM'S POLICY. IF SO, IT APPEARS THAT GM IS NOT ACTING IN GOOD FAITH WITH THIS RECALL.

YEARS AFTER THE INITIAL TAKITA AIRBAG RECALL OUR 2009 PONTIAC VIBE WAS FINALLY INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. (AS SUSPECTED) HOWEVER THE PARTS FOR THE "REMEDY" CONTINUE TO BE UNAVAILABLE. GIVEN THE SEVERITY OF THE CONSEQUENCES, THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! PLEASE HELP MOVE THIS TO A COMPLETED RESOLUTION!!
TAKATA RECALL- MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE HAS AN AIR BAG WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED. HE SAID THAT HE COULD NOT REPLACE IT BECAUSE HE HAD NO PARTS. HE DID NOT SAY I SHOULD DIS CONTINUE DRIVING IT NOR DID HE OFFER TO PROVIDE A LOANER CAR. HE WOULD NOT GIVE ME A DATE WHEN HE WOULD HAVE THE NECESSARY PART.

TAKATA RECALL - IT HAS BEEN OVER TWO YEARS SINCE I WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS PASSENGER AIR BAG RECALL. I HAVE WAITED PATIENTLY, ON TOP OF ALTERING MY DRIVING HABITS. NOW THAT I HAVE RECENTLY MOVED FROM IL TO FLORIDA, THE "POTENTIAL FOR THE INTRUSION OF MOISTURE" HAS INCREASED DRAMATICALLY BECAUSE OF THE HUMID CLIMATE HERE IN SW FLORIDA. EVEN IF THERE IS NO PASSENGER IN MY CAR, I - AS THE DRIVER - HAVE AN INCREASED RISK OF "METAL FRAGMENTS ... STRIKING THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AND RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH". UPON RECIEVING YET ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE (MARCH 2017) I CONTACTED PONTIAC AND GM. NEITHER HAS OFFERED A PLAN TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. WITHOUT THIS CORRECTION, I MUST CONTINUE TO UNDER UTILIZE THE CAR THAT I HAVE PAID IN FULL TO GENERAL MOTORS. FOR EXAMPLE, WITH OUR RECENT MOVE, WE PURCHASED MANY LARGE ITEMS SUCH AS FURNITURE AND BICYCLES. WE COULD NOT USE THE VIBE'S HATCHBACK BECAUSE THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE BACK SEATS TO BE LOWERED, IN TURN, NOT ALLOWING ANOTHER PERSON TO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME - THE DRIVER. FURTHERMORE, WITH FAMILY VISITING FROM OUT OF STATE, I AM UNABLE TO TRANSPORT THEM FROM THE AIRPORT WITH THEIR LUGGAGE, NOR CAN WE LOAD UP THE CAR WITH BEACH GEAR (CHAIRS, WAGON, UMBRELLA, COOLER, ETC. )AND TRANSPORT OUR FAMILY MEMBERS IN ONE TRIP. AGAIN, WE PURCHASED THIS CAR WITH THE INTENTION OF BEING ABLE TO USE IT. I NEED THE AIR BAG FIXED OR A COMPARABLE CAR LOANED TO ME AT NO CHARGE SO THAT I CAN CONDUCT NORMAL LIFE ACTIVITIES IN MY/ANOTHER AUTOMOBILE WITHOUT FEARING FOR MY, OR MY PASSENGERS' SAFETY.

A RECALL NOTICE ON THE AIR BAG WAS ISSUED IN MARCH 2017. IT IS NOW JUNE 7, 2017 AND PONTIAC STILL HAS NO RESOLUTION IN PLACE AND HAS NOT DISTRIBUTED PARTS TO THE DEALERS TO REPLACE THE AIRBAGS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I CANNOT USE THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR SO I CANNOT DRIVE MY FAMILY OR FRIENDS ANYWHERE. I RENTED A CAR FOR A WEEK OR SO AROUND EASTER TO TAKE A 4 DAY TRIP WITH FAMILY, WHERE I HAD TO DRIVE 800 OR SO MILES ROUND TRIP. PONTIAC REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THIS COST BECAUSE IT SAID IT IS ONLY A RECOMMENDATION THAT DON'T USE THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BUT IF YOU CALL THEY THEY SAY YOU COULD DIE IF IN SIT IN THAT SEAT AND HAVE AN ACCIDENT. WHICH IS IT? THEY CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, AFTER OPENING THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW VIA THE POWER WINDOW CONTROLS LOCATED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PANEL, SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE DOOR PANEL. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE SMOKE DISAPPEARED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT OF A RECALL INVOLVING THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT. THE DEALER REMOVED THE DOOR PANEL AND DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A FIRE INSIDE OF THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL. THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT ALSO NEEDED REPLACEMENT.
