Subject: Ongoing Power Steering Malfunction – Safety Concern I am writing to report a recurring and now potentially permanent issue with the power steering system in my vehicle. The problem began approximately 2 to 2.5 years ago. Initially, it was intermittent — the power steering would occasionally fail at low speeds, then resume normal operation. During these incidents, the dashboard would display a warning message: “Service Power Steering.” Over time, the issue has become more frequent, and in some cases, the failure occurs immediately upon startup, before the vehicle has even been driven. I first brought the vehicle to a local repair shop, where I was advised that the power steering unit might need to be replaced. They also mentioned that the problem could be related to a known defect involving contaminated components. However, after checking the serial number, I confirmed that my vehicle is not included in the current recall for this make and model. Next, I took the vehicle to a Ram Chrysler dealership. They were unable to replicate the issue during their inspection and advised me to bring the vehicle back on a tow truck if the problem occurred again. Since then, the issue has returned multiple times. I was previously able to temporarily clear the fault by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery terminals, but that method is no longer effective. The failure now appears to be persistent and ongoing. This is a serious safety concern. A sudden loss of power steering — whether at startup, low speeds, or while driving — poses a significant risk to both myself and others on the road. I plan to return to the dealership for further diagnostics, but I believe this issue deserves broader investigation and may warrant an expansion of the current recall. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000(Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced the failure. The VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I am writing to urgently address a safety issue I have encountered with my 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel VIN: [XXX] vehicle, which poses a significant risk to myself and others on the road. I purchased my 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in 2018. Regrettably, I have faced persistent problems with crankshaft bearing failures, resulting in engine failure on two occasions – first at 70,000 miles and subsequently after another 70,000 miles. Both instances necessitated engine replacements. The location of the truck is Ron Carter Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram League City at Address 3535 Gulf Fwy, League City, TX 77573. During the initial replacement, a rebuilt or used engine was installed per Chrysler's directive, which was stated to carry a three-year warranty. However, despite being within this warranty period, the dealership has declined to honor the warranty claim for the second engine failure. Beyond the financial strain this has imposed on my family, there is a grave safety concern associated with these repeated engine failures. The sudden loss of engine power while driving poses a significant risk on the road, creating unsafe conditions. I have experienced instances where the engine stopped abruptly, causing a near-collision due to the loss of power. I am reaching out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to highlight this safety issue and to request your urgent assistance in addressing this matter. These repeated engine failures not only jeopardize my safety but also that of other motorists on the road. I implore the NHTSA to investigate this matter promptly to prevent potential accidents and ensure the safety of all drivers who might be affected by similar issues in these vehicles. I am open to providing additional details, and documentation, or participating in any investigations necessary to address this critical safety concern. I can be reached at [XXX] or [XXX] to discuss this matter further. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
3.0L diesel engine may have been built with a high pressure fuel pump ("HPFP") that could fail prematurely. A HPFP failure may introduce internally failed component debris into the fuel system potentially causing fuel starvation. Engine loss power then when is fully operational and stop at sing then then engine stalls the next thing happens suddenly accelerated.

Catastrophic failure of the engine. Per dealership investigation, one of the rods broke off the engine. It can be inspected at Lithia Chrysler Jeep Reno, 1050 E Plumb Ln, Reno NV 89502 (775) 501-8593. I was traveling approx. 70mph on [XXX] freeway; terrible banging sound that stopped and lights came on the dash with instruction to shift to P to restart so I knew I had lost power. Fortunately I was on a downhill grade and traffic fairly light. I was able to coast off the freeway and park on a shoulder although braking was impaired and frightening. My life and my son's life and those of people in cars around us were put at risk by this failure. There had been no indications of issues prior to the failure. The truck has had all the required services although I see there are 2 recalls that have not been addressed and I don't understand why since the truck has had multiple services since the recalls; I thought those were taken care of when the vehicle goes in for a service. The led screen is delaminating. This has caused fantom touching. The truck will constantly start stop and change settings. This causes the GPS to go haywire, radio to change stations and volume, heating and cooling will go up and down, and it will initiate phone calls and emergency services. These are inconvenient when the truck is at rest, but I nearly got into a wreck due to the GPS screen zooming in and out while the truck called emergency services. This IS a safety issue.
Vehicle has shut off three separate times while driving. Without any warning. First time I was making a left-hand turn when it shut off. Second time I was also turning when it shut off. Third time I was crossing over a train tracks making a left hand turn when it shut off right on the edge of the track. Each time I had to turn the switch to the off position and restart it the third time it took several times before it restarted. The third incident was November 6th.
Blower motor stopped working so couldn't get window to defrost so I could see to drive. Replaced blower motor, still didn't work took it to shop they said connector to the TIPM module had melted so had it replaced plus asked mechanic to check all wiring, grounds, ect to see why blower motor not working. Pd over 700. To have this done blower motor worked for 1 day now doesn't work again. I believe the TIPM module is a safety and health hazard besides all the other stuff it messes up that just drive you crazy so it's also a mental health hazard. It a manufacturer defect on almost all there vehicles, not just the few they did put a Tipm recall on. Ty
8.4 in touchscreen is delaminating. The screen delamination causes the vehicle to register button pushes that aren't occurring, causing unintentional settings changes or making phone calls. Safety equipment (parking sensors) will intermittently be toggled off. This puts my safety at risk because it is a distraction while driving, essential safety devices can and are turned off randomly. This appears to be a common failure with multiple Dodge/Ram/FCA vehicles that have the 8.4 touchscreen.
my ram 2018 u connect radio changes stations on it own, heater starts and stops on it own it makes telephone calls on its own screen goes black can't see screen on its own gps will go black and turn off on its own very scary and unsafe almost caused me to have several accidents while using gps system. unsafe using u connect radio!!!!
The Uconnect control panel randomly changes settings for the radio, climate, phone. rear view camera and other systems controlled by the Uconnect system. It even attempted to place an SOS call for emergency help. This causes a significant distraction for the driver and systems are randomly and continuously turned on, off and have settings changed. The cause of this malfunction is a delamination/failure of the touch screen controls. This is a defect well known to FCA on many RAM and Dodge vehicles.
After only 64000 miles the 2018 Ram 1500 3.6L engine will need major repair with the cam shaft. With no longer a warranty I am stuck paying for the repair. I believe this is a common problem. I have religiously changed oil and kept mileage low.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I rear ended another car and my truck was totaled. The air bags never deployed and I’ve never had an air bag light come on showing there was an issue. The vehicle was safety checked from the dealer when I bought it but they told me to call Dodge (or whomever owns it). I called them and they said someone would call me in 4 days, well here it is on day 6 and no call.
The auto park disabled will come on. Other lights will flash and eventually the truck powers off. It is going to cause someone to be killed. Other ram and jeep owners have experienced the same and dealers can't seem to figure out the problem
Manufacturer has failed to provide a remedy for the Z46 recall, the primary "intended" use of the vehicle is for towing, and as such I feel that the vehicle is unsafe for its "intended" use. I have contacted Mopar online, and I have contacted the dealership multiple times. With no resolution, or suggested remedy. I am simply left with a vehicle of questionable reliability which I feel is unreasonable.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the infotainment system screen was delaminating, causing the touch screen function to engage different systems independently. The contact was concerned for his safety. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the infotainment system was rebooted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was charged a fee for the infotainment system replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
This safety issue deals with the touch screen radio. The laminate or glue appears to have oozing on the inside of the touch screen. This oozing has caused the touchscreen to have a mind of its own and begin calling people, turning cameras on, adjust vehicle settings included in the uconnect package. The touchscreen cant be shut off and continues to make changes as your driving. Today the vehicle began calling telephone numbers and hanging up, switching between radio, backup camera, telephone etc etc etc. As i continually attempted to stop the chaos I nearly had a headon collision. This is a well known issue with this touch screen and Im shocked that nothing has been done to force a recall or correction from RAM. This has been an ongoing issue. It use to just change the channel on the radio. Now its turned into a more serious issue where someone can be killed. I would like to turn the unit off but it cant be shut down.
I was driving down a country road with my kids in the car and my vehicle started to stall and then the engine turned off while the vehicle was still moving. Lucky I was not driving on a busy road and was able to get it safely off the roadway onto a dirt shoulder. The lightening bolt symbol on my truck was on as it was stalling. I contacted the dealership and was told there are no fixes for the recalls on my vehicle. They also related there are no loaner vehicles to give me. I do not feel safe driving my truck until these issues are fixed. I refuse to put the safety of my kids and myself at risk.
ABS & TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS KEEP COMMING ON, THEN THE CRUISE STOPS WORKING,
During a road trip we exited the highway and suddenly we have a flat tire on Front right of vehicle. We saw no object in the tire it was just flat. We change the tire with our spare and got back on the road on the way home. After the first flat the Service Antilock Braking System and alternated to Service Electronic Brake System messages aper as well as the cruse control not working. After driving another 2 1/2 hours at less than posted speed, we had another flat tire out of the blue, so we pulled off the highway. This time it was the Rear Right tire that was flat, and again no object in the tire. Did this issue cause these flats? I checked Ram's forum's and internet to see that this error meant. What I found out is there are thousands of Ram truck having this same issue. In order to fix this issue it would cost over $800 to have parts 68437098AB Module Anti Lock Brake System and 68143491AA Control Anti Lock Brake System replaced. However, I am seeing that many people who had these parts replaced are getting this error again. This could have been a very dangerous issue for me and my family.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The Uconnect system which controls almost every electrical aspect of my truck is malfunctioning. There seems to be an issue with the screen and it goes into a "ghost method" and the screen will start changing without being touched. This screen controls safety features, cameras, navigation, etc. i have seen several forums where ram owners are complaining about this and this needs to be a Recall!
While driving down the road the service power steering and service ABS notifications appeared on the instrument cluster and the power steering stopped working. It felt as though the wheels turn when this happened and the steering wheel wouldn’t move. This caused a loss of control and the vehicle left the road coming to rest in the ditch. This resulted in severe damage to the front suspension, axles, steering linkage, and the bottom of the engine. The vehicle was not drivable and had to be towed.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that after the vehicle was parked, the contact returned and attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with a failed high-pressure fuel pump. The contact was informed that the high-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 189,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
On Sunday, Oct 1, 2023, I proceeded out of my driveway, when the warning lights came on and the steering failed, stranding me on the busy roadway. I was able to back onto my property again and fortunately the incident didn't result in a collision. The truck is at the dealership as I write this and I informed them that I want them to save all of the defective parts for me. The dealership's diagnosis is that the rack and pinion steering has failed at approx. 61,200 miles. The components have not been inspected, but will be available after the repair, as stated above.
Three times since January 2023, the steering has locked down while driving. The driver has had no control over steering momentarily. The latest incident caused the vehicle to strike a concrete pillar surrounding a stop sign in a parking lot.
Air Bag light on in vehicle Dealership recommended replacing airbag sensor and wiring cost $1400.00 Truck never involved in accident airbag never deployed truck has 61000 ? Why is stellantis not responsible for fixing issue It’s a SAFETY issue ! Are Airbags like tires need to replace after 61000

The power steering stops intermittently with no warning lights. It becomes very hard to steer while driving.
275/60/R20 115T I noticed my vehicle was shaky or wobbly when I was driving it and I thought it was because my tires were under inflated or over inflated even though they were reading normal when I went to check the tire, I noticed the left half of the tire was larger than the other half of the tire all the way around

Touchscreen entertainment system is malfunctioning, changing on it's own. It has called 911 on multiple occasions and the rear camera comes on while driving.
The front air bags did not deploy when I struck a Chevy SUV the front end of my truck. The whole front end is gone and air bags should have deployed
While driving down the road and needing to turn onto side roads or just following curves in the road, power steering has been becoming increasingly difficult requiring full strength to turn the vehicle. This is happening intermittently and happens while in mid turn. Have also noticed that when I’m 4WD, steering is altogether difficult requiring full body strength.
Truck has a loss of power steering. No whining noise associated. This problem Comes and goes, however is now present at most times.

I purchased a new 2018 Ram Truck with an ECO Diesel engine. The engine has undergone multiple recall repairs including one for the EGR that could cause a potential fire hazard. The truck has been in service for multiple engine related issues since I purchased the vehicle. It has continuously had a rampant smell of antifreeze inside the cab of the vehicle which has made me feel sick on occasions and I must open the windows even in the winter months. After only 66,000 miles my truck suffered a catastrophic engine failure. Although Stellantis replaced the engine under warranty, the new engine only had a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty. 2 years has passed and the warranty is now no longer active and I am personally responsible for any repairs. My truck with the new engine has just over 60,000 miles and is suffering the same issues as the original engine even though it was just fixed for these issues 4,000 miles ago. It again has the smell of coolant and diesel in the cab. The vehicle is dangerous to drive due to throttle control and temporary engine stalls. I have to rely on my children to drive me around, rent a car or use Uber. I have also complained multiple times to Ram service departments that this vehicle loses power and stalls while normal functioning. They keep telling me this is normal function of the engine. There is now a “Loss of Crankshaft Position” recall which also causes a catastrophic engine failure. The fix issued does not save the engine from this catastrophic failure but only allows the vehicle not to stop abruptly at the time of failure. Basically, I am driving a time bomb waiting for a catastrophic engine failure. I understand this engine is being discontinued and I wont even by able to repair this vehicle if something happens again in the future. Currently the vehicle is unoperable.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the vehicle was accelerating and decelerating unexpectedly. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and a message to shift to park(P) was displayed. The contact pulled to a safe location and parked and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) was fractured, causing metal shavings into the fuel system. The dealer determined that the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP), the fuel rails, the fuel line, and the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Like to report due to lack of fix a recall as fuel starvation - which have a High pressure Fuel pump defective I ended paid the cost of Filter diesel plus other other damage parts. Now seems to be that I eat the cost of recall. Out the blue now the part is on order. I am very sure the High Pressure Fuel Pump is defectives has damage other components.
