THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE WHEELS SEIZED AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND MERGED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR AIRBAGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE THE VEHICLE'S REAR AIRBAGS WERE REPLACED AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V404000 (VISIBILITY) WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SAAB 97X. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH BOTH SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT A CRASH OCCURRING. THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER PRETENSION ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE BROKE AS WELL. THE CONTACT DROVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SAW NO DAMAGE RELATIVE TO A CRASH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING AND NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER WHO HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY AN INVESTIGATOR. THE INVESTIGATOR FOUND TWO VERY SMALL SCRATCHES ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WHICH WAS THE REASON THAT THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING DID NOT DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYING COULD HAVE INJURED SMALL CHILDREN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
