SATURN 2005 ION WOULD NOT TURN OFF, WOULD NOT RELEASE THE ENGINE KEY OR TURN. I DROVE CAR TO WALMART TO HAVE SERVICE TECH REMOVE THE BATTERY. THEY HAD TO DISABLE SOMETHING ELSE. THIS IS SECOND EPISODE WITH IGNITION KEY AND THIS CAR. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE IGNITION CONTROL MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW, DROVE ONE MILE OFF THE LOT, THE ENGINE STOPPED AND WOULD NOT START. IT WAS TOWED THE NEXT MORNING TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. AT 15,400 MILES THE CAR AGAIN WOULD NOT START, THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. AT 16,000 MILES THE CHIME FOR THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OFF AND THE IGNITION HOUSING WAS REPLACED. AT 19,500 MILES I COMPLAINED THAT THE CAR WOULD START AND IMMEDIATELY TURN OFF AGAIN, THE DEALER SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THE NEXT DAY THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OFF AND THE KEY WAS STUCK. THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION HOUSING AGAIN. AT 22,300 MILES I COMPLAINED THAT THE KEY WAS STICKING IN THE IGNITION, THE DEALER SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER (LAST WEEKEND BEFORE LEAVING TO GO OUT OF TOWN) AT 27,200 MILES THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OFF AND THE KEY WAS STUCK AGAIN. THE IGNITION HOUSING WAS REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME! I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ONLY OFFERED A ONE YEAR EXTENSION ON THE WARRANTY. WHAT GOOD WILL AN EXTENDED WARRANTY DO FOR A CAR THAT YOU CAN'T TRUST TO DRIVE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHETHER IT WILL START OR TURN OFF WHEN YOU NEED IT TO!!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SATURN AGAIN!!!!! *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 SATURN ION WITH 32 MILES ON IT JULY 11, 2005. ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2005 WHILE DRIVING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL IN THE RAIN, THE CAR STALLED AND BEGAN TO FILL WITH WATER FROM THE FLOOR UP. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THE LEFT FRON SUNROOF DRAIN HOSE WAS PLUGGED. THEY SAID THIS CAUSED AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHICH CAUSED THE STALL. THE SERVICE DEPT. SAID THEY CLEANED THE DRAIN HOSE AND ALL WAS OK. WELL, WE HAD A HEAVY RAIN, NOT THE FIRST SINCE 11/2005, ON AUGUST 18, 2007. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR, BUT IT STALLED RIGHT AWAY. IN ADDITION, THE FLOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS WET. THIS OCCURRED ON A SATURDAY AND BY MONDAY WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP, THERE WAS A "POND" OF WATER ON THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THE CD PLAYER HAS BEEN REPLACED BECAUSE IT ATE CD'S. THE NEW RADIO WORKED OK FOR ABOUT 6 MONTH'S, BUT IS NOW UNABLE TO PICK UP RECEPTION TO ANY STATION. ALSO, AT ONE TIME, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR BECAME JAMMED AND COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THE LOCK ROD AND INSIDE DOOR HANDLE WERE BENT. AT THE SAME TIME WATER WAS LEAKING THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AND THE WINDOW WAS OFF THE TRACK AND FALLING INTO THE DOOR. THIS WAS ALSO REPAIRED BY THE DEALER BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE AND I REGRET PURCHASING IT. I HAVE NEVER HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH A NEW CAR AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CAR TO ANYONE. *TR
I COULD NOT SHUT OFF THE CAR WHICH WAS A 2005 SATURN ION 3. THE KEY LOCKED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF THE Y ENGINE. THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO SHUT IT OFF WAS BY DUMPING THE CLUTCH, BUT THE IGNITION WAS STILL ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO SATURN OF INDIANAPOLIS. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE IGNITION KEY LOCK CYLINDER WAS BINDING AND THEY NEEDED TO INSTALL A NEW IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND HOUSING. THEY INSTALLED A NEW LOCK CYLINDER, LOCK CYLINDER HOUSING AND CUT TWO NEW KEYS. *AK
METAL FATIGUE ON PASSENGER CAR DOOR OF SATURN ION QUAD COUPE REDLINE, WHERE HINGE ATTACHES: THE PROBLEM OCCURRED OVER A PERIOD OF 2 YEARS DURING WHICH TIME I WOULD OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR EACH DAY A MINIMUM OF 10-12 TIMES TO STRAP MY INFANT INTO HIS CARSEAT. THE DOOR METAL CRACKED AND BEGAN TO SEPARATE FROM THE REST OF THE METAL, TO THE POINT WHERE THE DOOR IS READ TO DROP OFF THE HINGE. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALER IN RESPONSE TO A RECALL ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AT WHICH TIME I REQUESTED THEM TO LOOK AT THE DOOR. THE DEALERSHIP HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. HOWEVER, THEY CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY SINCE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DISPROVE THE DOOR HAD NOT BEEN FORCEFULLY PUSHED BACKWARDS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE FAILURE IS DUE TO A RECALL RELATING TO THE IGNITION SWITCH, BUT THE DEALER REFUSES TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE FAILURE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 45,000.
I HAVE A 2005 SATURN ION AND IT HAS A HABIT OF NOT STARTING AT TIMES. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE OWNED IT. WE TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE CAR WILL NOT START. WE HAVE TO WAIT ANYWHERE FROM 10-45 MINUTES FOR THE CAR TO START AND IT SOMETIMES CAUSE MY HUSBAND TO BE LATE TO WORK. THIS IS AN EVEN BIGGER CONCERN SINCE WE HAVE A FOUR MONTH OLD SON. WE HAVE NOT HAD THE MONEY OR TIME DURING THE WEEK TO GO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP BUT I HAVE CALLED THE COMPANY WHO HANDLES MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND HE SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. FROM THE DISCUSSION BOARDS I GATHER THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2005 SATURN ION COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING RIGHT AT ABOUT 37000, RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I TRIED TO HAVE IT FIXED, BUT IT'S A NEW TECHNOLOGY SATURN IMPLEMENTED, (STATE OF THE ART ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM), AND IT WILL COST $1100 TO FIX IT. MY CAR IS FAIRLY NEW STILL, AND SATURN CORP. REFUSES TO MEET WITH ME IN THE MIDDLE ON THE COST. WITHOUT POWER STEERING, MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND DRIVING TO WORK AND BACK IS A REAL CHALLENGE, AND A DANGEROUS CHALLENGE, BUT I CANNOT AFFORD THE COST OF FIXING IT. ***SATURN SERVICE ADVISOR ADMITTED TO ME THAT LOTS OF THE IONS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM.*** *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THE KEY BECAME LODGED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY TIGHT. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY THE SOUNDING OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING ALARM. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO HIS RESIDENCE USING EXTREME BODILY FORCE TO MANEUVER THE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT'S KEYS WOULD CONTINUOUSLY BECOME LODGED WITHIN THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED FOR THE EXACT SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
POWER STEERING FAILED. *JB
I HIT THE REAR OF A TRUCK HARD ENOUGH THAT MY RADIATOR WAS CRUSHED AGAINST MY ENGINE BLOCK. HOWEVER, THE AIRBAGS IN MY CAR DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL. I KNOW I HAD TO HAVE HIT THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 20 AND 50 MPH. WE ARE STILL WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM OUR DOCTOR TO SEE IF MY WIFE AND I ARE OK, AND I HAVE NOT HAD MY CAR REPAIRED YET FOR I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE CAR INSURANCE COMPANY. IF THIS IS NORMAL I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW AT WHAT POINT WERE THE AIRBAGS IN A 2005 SATURN ION TYPE 1 SUPPOSE TO DEPLOY IN A FRONT END COLLISION. *AK
2005 SATURN POWER STEERING GOING OUT SHUT CAR OF START IT RESETS STEERS WITH ASSIST FOR A WHILE IT`S THE SAME PART NUMBER THAT IS ON COBALTS THAT ARE RECALLED ALONG WITH 3 OTHER CARS THIS IS DANGEROUS MY WIFE IS DISABLED AND THEY WANT 900.00 TO FIX IT AND WONT SELL ME THE PART BECAUSE ITS A RECALL PART BEING SAVED FOR RECALLS THIS IS BS THE CAR WAS BACK TO SELLING DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES WITH CANT DUPLICATE SAID AT FIRST WAS EVERY SO OFTEN NO ITS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. *TR
THE SIDE DOOR PANELS OF CAR ARE BUCKLING, DISTORTING AND MELTING....PAINT IS BUBBLING. DUE TO EXTREME HEAT FROM THE SUN REFLECTION OFF HOUSE WINDOWS CLAIMS SATURN. DAMAGE IS TOTALING ALMOST $3,000.00 CONTINUES TO GET WORSE EVERDAY AND IS GROWING ACROSS THE CAR PANELS. EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, SATURN WILL NOT PAY DENYING IT'S A WARRANTY ISSUE. CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR NEAR ANY FIRES...THERE ARE NO BURN MARKS ON CAR.....EVERYONE SAYS THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. *TR
MY 2005 ION 2 WAS SERVICED CONTINUOUSLY BY THE SATURN DEALERSHIP SINCE ITS NEW PURCHASE. THIS CAR HAS NEVER HAD A ENGINE INCIDENT, OVERHEATING, OR MISSED OIL CHANGE/SERVICE AND AT APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES THE ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT WOULD ACTIVATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT TO THE SATURN TECHNICIAN AND DEDUCED TO EITHER A GAS TANK SEALING ISSUE OR OXYGEN SENSOR MALFUNCTION. THE OXYGEN SENSOR WAS FINALLY REPLACED ON IT 48,000 SERVICE CHECKUP, YET THE LIGHT WAS STILL ACTIVE. A COMPLETE COMPUTER CODE DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED INTERNAL MISFIRE ISSUES WITH THE #1 CYLINDER. THE MECHANICS EVALUATION WAS THAT THE ENGINE CYLINDER OR BLOCK IS WARPED AND CAUSING COMPRESSION BLOW BY & MISFIRING. THE RECOMMENDED SOLUTION IS TO CHANGE THE ENGINE BLOCK AT A COST OF $6, 800. OR WORK ON TEARING DOWN THE ENGINE AT AN UN-ESTIMATED AMOUNT. ALTHOUGH I HAVE A 3 YEAR WARRANTY TO APRIL 2008, I HAVE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE OF THIS PURCHASED WARRANTY BY OVER 14,000 MILES. I AM UNCERTAIN WHETHER I SHOULD GO FORWARD WITH THIS REPAIR, TRADE-IN THE CAR, OR SEEK MY DAMAGES THROUGH MY ATTORNEY IN LOS ANGELES. WHEN I PURCHASED THIS NEW ION, MY FATHER IN LAW WAS SO IMPRESSED THAT HE BOUGHT THE SAME MODEL 5 DAYS LATER AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP. AN INTERESTING NOTE IS THIS IS OUR 3RD SATURN IN THE LAST 11 YEARS. WE BELIEVE IN THE BRAND, LOVE THE SERVICE & SALES DEPARTMENTS, BUT ARE NOT SURE ABOUT ITS FUTURE WITH OUR FAMILY. *JB

2005 SATURN ION 1 FAILURE TO START. FAULTY DESIGN RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. *NM
I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN DEC.2004. I HAD THE CAR @ 2 YEARS WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE IGNITION WOULD NOT RELEASE THE KEY WHEN I TRIED TO TURN OFF THE CAR. THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT GO TO THE OFF POSITION NOR WOULD IT RELEASE THE KEY. I HAD TO TURN IT ON AND OFF MANY TIMES OR PUT THE CAR INTO GEAR AND BACK INTO PARK TO GET THE CAR TO OFF AND THE KEY RELEASED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD THE KEY AND THE CAR LOCK/ALARM FOB ON THE SAME RING. THIS EXPLANATION SEEMED SILLY AND EVEN WHEN I REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE RING THAT THE LOCK/ALARM, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THEY DID REPLACE SOMETHING BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. IT IS SO FRUSTRATING AND STRESSFUL TO DEAL WITH BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GET THE KEY OUT W/O THE SYSTEM GOING OFF AND RELEASING THE KEY. NOW THE CAR HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS RECALL CAR DUE TO THE IGNITION DEFECT. I HAVE GONE TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE ORDERED THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT THE RECALL WAS FOR BUT NO WORD ON THE FACT THAT THE KEY WILL NOT RELEASE. I HAVE ONGOING FEARS AND CONCERNS THAT UNLESS THIS KEY RELEASE PROBLEM IS ADDRESSED, THE SAFETY ISSUE WILL STILL BE THERE. MAYBE COVERED UP OR MASKED BY THE SWITCH REPLACEMENT BUT NOT COMPLETELY FIXED. A SIDE NOTE TO THIS IS THAT I HAD TO HAVE A NEW STARTER PUT IN BECAUSE THE STARTER HAD DEVELOPED A 'DEAD SPOT' IN IT, PREVENTING IT FROM STARTING. I BELIEVE THERE MIGHT BE A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE IGNITION NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND THE 'DEAD SPOT' IN THE STARTER. THIS WOULD BE FROM ME HAVING TO START AND RESTART MANY MANY TIMES TO GET THE IGNITION TO 'OFF' AND THE KEY RELEASED. I NEED THIS TO BE FIXED COMPLETELY AND CORRECTLY FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS. I SHOULD NOT BE FEARFUL WHEN I AM DRIVING AND I SHOULD NOT BE FEARFUL WHEN I AM SHUTTING THE CAR OFF. I SENT A LETTER TO GM IT WAS PASSED TO SATURN CORP. ONGOING PROBLEMS NEVER FIXED.STARTED AT 19000 MILES AND CONTINUE WITH MILEAGE AT 31000. 2 DIFFERENT SERVICE DEPTS. STILL HAVE THE PROBLEMS. BLOWN OFF BY SATURN CORP. BY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE. FIRST SERVICE VISIT AFTER SPECIFICALLY MAKING AN APPOINTMENT FOR THIS LEMON RESULTED IN A CAR WASH. THE NOISE TECH WAS NOT IN. I DROVE 40 MILES FOR A CAR WASH? NEVER WENT BACK. SATURN SENT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY AND I REPLIED; "CALL ME". THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO GO TO ANOTHER DEALER. I DID AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME IT WAS MY ROTORS MAKING THE NOISE. HE THEN TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIR!!! THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. HE THEN SAID THAT THEY WILL DO IT AT NO CHARGE AFTER I PROTESTED. I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK, SAID THANK YOU AND LEFT. WHEN I GOT ABOUT A MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE PROBLEMS WERE STILL THERE (NOISE AND VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE). I CALLED HIM FROM MY CELL PHONE AND TOLD HIM AND HE SAID ;"OK, WE WILL GET YOU IN SOMETIME DURING THE WEEK SO WE CAN SPEND MORE TIME WITH IT". COULD YOU IMAGINE HOW I WOULD HAVE FELT IF I HAD ACTUALLY AGREED TO PAY? I WAS VERY UPSET. SATURN CORP. CALLED ME AFTER ABOUT 2 WEEKS AND ASKED ME HOW IT WENT AND I TOLD THEM IT DID NOT GO WELL. THEY CONTACTED THE SERVICE MANAGER AND AFTER A WHILE, HE CALLED ME. I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD COME BACK IN AFTER THE HOLIDAYS. I CALLED HIM TO SET AN APPOINTMENT JUST AFTER THE NEW YEAR. WE SET ONE UP ON A SATURDAY MORNING AT THE DEALERSHIP. I SHOWED UP, HE DID NOT. I WAS TAKEN CARE OF BY A SERVICE ADVISOR. AFTER CHECKING THE CAR OUT, HE SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO CHANGE THE "RACK". SO, I HAD TO COME BACK AGAIN. I PICKED IT UP THE NEXT DAY. HERE IS THE BOTTOM LINE; NOW THE CAR DRIFTS, TO THE RIGHT TO BE EXACT, OH, AND MY VIBRATION IS STILL THERE ALONG WITH THE NOISE IN THE FRONT END. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I OWN A 2005 SATURN ION 1. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN LATE 2004, AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT AT ALL UNTIL THIS WINTER (2006). MY PROBLEM HAS BEEN THAT WHEN IT IS COLD OUTSIDE, THE CAR REFUSES TO CRANK AT ALL. I TOOK IT TO A SATURN DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE BATTERY. I PAID OVER $100 TO HAVE A NEW BATTERY PUT IN, AND WAS REASSURED THAT IT FIXED THE STARTING PROBLEM. I THOUGHT IT HAD UNTIL ABOUT A WEEK LATER. THE CAR HAS STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS STARTING AGAIN, SO I PAID FOR A BRAND NEW CAR BATTERY THAT I DIDN'T NEED IN THE FIRST PLACE. I ORIGINALLY WAS GOING TO TAKE IT BACK TO SATURN TO GET THEM TO LOOK AT THE CAR AGAIN, BUT I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ONLINE. I FOUND THAT SATURNS NOT STARTING IN COLD WEATHER IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, AND SATURN REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION WHICH RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF MY VEHICLE. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. (THE ENGINE WAS PUSHED BACK APPROXIMATELY 4 INCHES.) WHILE I WAS WEARING THE SAFETY BELT, I SUSTAINED INJURIES TO MY HEAD, CHEST, AND KNEES. *JB

9/21/06, MY SON WAS DIVING HIS 2005 SATURN ION REDLINE HOME FROM WORK. CAR HAD 20,000 MILES, BOUGHT NEW. HE SHIFTED INTO 3RD GEAR AND THE CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE AND WAS BARELY DRIVABLE. HE PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND DISCOVERED A LARGE FLUID LEAK WITH NO ABILITY TO SHIFT GEARS. CAR TOWED TO SATURN OF DANBURY. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD LITERALLY "EXPLODED" (THEIR WORDS) AND UPON INVESTIGATION DISCOVERED THE TRANSMISSION CASE BLOWN APART, SUPPOSEDLY CAUSED BY "EXCESSIVE RPM". THE CAR WAS REPAIRED FOR FREE: TRANSAXLE ASSY & MOTOR ASSY, STARTER,2 PLATES, FLYWHEEL, SHAFT ASM I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE REP, WHO TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT PROVE IT WASN'T A DEFECT, AND WOULD THEREFORE COVER IT UNDER A "GOODWILL ADJUSTMENT, BUT NOT UNDER THE WARRANTY. NO ONE COULD EXPLAIN WHY THERE WAS EXCESSIVE RPM- ENOUGH TO BLOW UP THE TRANS CASE. I WAS ASSURED THAT THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE IT WAS ANYTHING MY SON HAD DONE TO CAUSE THIS FAILURE. GRANTED, AT 20 YEARS OLD, I AM CERTAIN HE ISN'T A MODEL DRIVER, BUT HE IS ALSO A VERY RESPONSIBLE KID AND I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW BADLY HE COULD HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR TO CAUSE THIS. I HAVE FILED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY AND AM CONSTANTLY AND CONSISTENTLY PROVIDED THE SAME ANSWER AND IT IS BECOMING A BIG PROBLEM. YOU SEE THIS CAR HAS LEFT ME STRANDED NUMEROUS TIMES (TO THE POINT WHERE I CANNOT KEEP COUNT ANY LONGER) BECAUSE THE THROTTLE BODY IS TRASH. VEHICLE: 2005 SATURN ION RED LINE I WAS DRIVING IN COLUMBUS, OH AREA TO MEET SOME FRIENDS AND I HAD STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN I LEFT THE RED LIGHT I WENT THROUGH THE GEARS TO GET UP TO SPEED AND AS I CAME TO 4TH GEAR THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT GO IN. SO I LET OUT THE CLUTCH AND TRIED TO GO BACK IN. AS I PRESSED THE CLUTCH PEDAL AGAIN IT IMMEDIATELY FELL TO THE FLOOR WITH NO PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL AT ALL AND I COULD NOT SELECT ANY GEARS. THEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO VIBRATE REALLY BAD SO I PULLED OVER AT THE WALGREEN'S A FEW YARDS AWAY. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP I NOTICED HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAKING FROM THE CAR AND IT WAS SHAKING BADLY. SO I CALLED MY FRIENDS AND THEY CAME TO LOOK. MY CLUTCH HAD GIVEN UP BUT WE WERE NOT SURE HOW BADLY. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP NEARBY THAT ALSO SPECIALIZED IN THESE VEHICLES. THE FRICTION DISC IN THE CLUTCH HAD RIPPED COMPLETELY APART WHICH IN TURN SCORED AND WARPED THE FLYWHEEL. THIS ALSO CAUSED THE SLAVE CYLINDER TO OVER EXTEND WHICH IS WHERE THE FLUID LEAKED FROM AND DEBRIS FLYING AROUND WITHIN THE BELLHOUSING HAD CONTACTED THE FLUID FEED LINE TO THE SLAVE CYLINDER AND PUNCTURED A HOLE IN IT. NEW PARTS WERE ORDERED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND THEY CONSISTED OF THIS: 1 NEW FLYWHEEL, 1 NEW CLUTCH FRICTION DISC, 1 NEW CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE, 6 NEW CLUTCH PLATE TO FLYWHEEL BOLTS, 1 NEW SLAVE CYLINDER, 1 NEW THROW OUT BEARING, 1 NEW CLUTCH FLUID FEED LINE, 5 QUARTS OF HYDRAULIC FLUID, AND 1 QUART OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE TOTAL LABOR CHARGED WAS FOR 8 HOURS OF WORK. THE TOTAL REPAIR COSTS FOR LABOR AND PARTS CAME TO $1,752. I AM NOT THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS PLATFORM OF VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE CLUTCH FAILURE ISSUES. I DO STILL HAVE THE OLD PARTS FOR INSPECTION. I UPGRADED TO NEWER, STRONGER PARTS TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING AGAIN IN 4,500 MILES WHICH IS WHERE THIS HAPPENED. 4,500 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 SATURN ION2 AND THE BRAKES TOTALLY FAILED WHEN I DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH ON MY 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION. AFTER TAKING IT IN FOR SERVICE THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE SLAVE CYLINDER WAS LEAKING AND ALLOWED AIR INTO THE BRAKE SYSTEM BECAUSE THE BRAKES AND CLUTCH HAVE A SHARED HYDRAULIC FLUID RESERVOIR. I COULDN'T DOWNSHIFT BECAUSE THE CLUTCH FAILED AND I COULDN'T BRAKE BECAUSE THE BRAKES FAILED. THE WARNING SYSTEM FAILED BECAUSE THERE WAS STILL SOME FLUID IN THE SHARED RESERVOIR. THE WARNING LIGHT GOES ON WHEN THE SYSTEM IS OUT OF FLUID NOT WHEN IT IS RUNNING LOW. SCARY STUFF... I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR KILLED OTHERS. THE CAR STARTED EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE ACCESSORY JACK BECAME INOPERABLE, THE RADIO WOULD STOP PUTTING OUT SOUND, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ON YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TURN IT OFF THEN THE ABS LIGHT WOULD STAY ON AND THE WARNING BELL WOULD GO OFF. FINALLY THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON. UPON GOING TO MY CAR AFTER WORK IT WOULD NOT START. I THOUGHT IT WAS A DEAD BATTERY SO WE JUMPED THE CAR AND AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES IT STARTED. 1 WEEK LATER THE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON AGAIN, BUT AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR IT WENT OUT. AGAIN WHEN I WENT OUT ANOTHER DAY TO START BY CAR AFTER MY LUNCH BREAK THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I CALLED SATURN AND REQUESTED ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE, BUT AFTER 15 MINUTES THE CAR STARTED. I TOOK IT TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER (CONTROL) BODY SYSTEM. THE NEXT DAY THE ANTI THEFT LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SWITCH IN THE IGNITION. IN JUNE THE RADIO AGAIN WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR IT WORKED AGAIN. I CALLED SATURN AGAIN TO COMPLAIN AND TOOK IT IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC AT THAT TIME THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES. 1 WEEK LATER THE RADIO AGAIN WOULD NOT WORK, SO I DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT RESTARTING THE CAR SO THAT THEY COULD SEE THE PROBLEM IN ACTION. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE RADIO ONLY AND THEY WOULD REPLACE IT. A NEW RADIO HAS BEEN ORDERED BUT DURING THIS TIME THE ABS SYSTEM AGAIN CAME ON WITH A WARNING BELL. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON THE SYSTEM RESET ITSELF. 2 DAYS LATER AFTER LEAVING THE STORE THE ABS LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN WITH THE BELL AND THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT CAME ON. I RESTARTED THE CAR, BUT THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT STAYED ON THE ENTIRE TRIP HOME. I WAS TOLD THAT IF THE LIGHT WAS ON THE CAR SHOULD NOT RUN, BUT IT DID. I TOOK THE CAR IN TODAY FOR THEM TO "LOOK" AT IT AND THEY SAID THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE RADIO AND RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON IT. *NM

NO START/NO CRANK IN VERY COLD WEATHER! THIS IS THE OTHER PROBLEM WITH THESE SWITCHES ON THE SATURN IONS! I CALLED SATURN DEALERSHIP RT AWAY, WHEN I COULD NOT START MY CAR. THEY HAD NO ANSWER, WANTED ME TO TOW MY CAR IN. BUT, WHEN WEATHER WARMED UP PAST 20' OUTSIDE, CAR TURNED RT OVER. THIS WAS A "HIT & MISS" PROBLEM, FOR YRS ON MY CAR. THEN 2013, WAS OUR SEVERELY COLD WINTER, IN MI. MY CAR, EVERY MORN, WOULD NOT START. I HAD TO ALL MY OWN RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM. TO MY SHOCK!! WHAT I FOUND! THE COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM, WAS ALL OVER THE INTERNET!! THEN, I FOUND THE ACTUAL BULLETIN FROM GM'S FROM 2009! IT DESCRIBED THIS PROBLEM X& TO REPLACE THE SWITCH! WHAT WAS HAPPENING IS THE EXTREME COLD WEATHER WAS THROWING OFF THE ANTI THEFT SWITCH TOO! SHUT THE WHOLE CAR DOWN! I HAD TO PAY $500 TO REPLACE MY IGNITION SWITCH & KEY TUMBLER. WHY IS THIS PROBLEM NOT BEING ACKNOWLEDGED AS WELL? IT'S AS BAD AS THE PROBLEM ON THE NEWS. I ALSO REC'D AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM TOO. I WAS IN A FRONT END COLLISION ON 10-7-2005 . THE OTHER DRIVER WAS DRIVING A FORD PICK--UP TRUCK F-150 RANGER. NONE OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE TRUCK DRIVERS DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MY SATURN WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE VIN # IS AS FOLLOWS: [XXX]. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE ION AIRBAG SAFETY . THE CAR HAS ISSUES WITH LIGHTING MALFUNCTION. MY PASSENGER SIDE RUNNING LIGHT/TURN SIGNAL REQUIRED MANY BULB CHANGES, EVERY FEW WEEKS OR SO, SINCE THE SOCKET OVERHEATED AND ACCORDINGLY RECEIVED A SIGNAL FROM THE BODY MODULE TO SHUT OFF. THIS SEEMS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM THAT LED TO A RECALL WITH THE 2003 AND 2004 IONS. I RECENTLY WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THIS SAFETY-RELATED ASPECT OF THE VEHICLE REMEDIED, FOR A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS. *TR
SHIFTER KNOB CAME DETACHED DURING STREET DRIVING. *JB
DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, ELECTRICAL GAUGE INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE MOTOR SHUT OFF INADVERTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED DIAGNOSTICS TEST ON THE VEHICLE AND WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LINES ON MD I-97 NORTH BOUND FROM THE SLOW RIGHT LANE TO THE FAST LANE LEFT LANE. WHEN A CAR IN THE FAST LANE SPEED UP WHICH NEVER ALLOWED ME TO CHANGE LANES, I CONTINUED TO TRAVEL IN THE SAME SLOW RIGHT LANE. WITHIN 1 MINUTE AFTER THAT ACTION OF THE ATTEMPTED LANE CHANGE, I EXPERIENCED THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING ERRATICALLY AND TRYING TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS GOING STRAIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL KEPT PULLING TO THE RIGHT. EVENTUALLY, THE CAR STARTED FISHING TAILING OR SWERVING. WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN, THE SENSITIVITY OF THE STEERING WHEEL OVER COMPENSATED FOR THE MINOR TURNING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND BASICALLY TOOK OVER THE STEERING FROM ME. THIS ACTION OF THE CAR PLACED ME INTO A POSITION IN WHICH I COULD NOT FULLY RECOVER ON MY OWN AND MADE THE CAR SPIN OUT OF CONTROL FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND SUBSEQUENTLY Y CAUSING AN HEAD-ON COLLISION. *NM
