THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000.

AT FIRST I HAD STARTING PROBLEMS. I LOOKED INTO THE IGNITION,SPARK PLUGS,COILS,PLUG WIRES. A G.M. DEALER SAID I HAD A CODE THAT SAID #3 CYLINDER MISFIRE. #3 CYL. SPARK PLUG WAS THE ONLY PLUG THAT WAS NOT RUNNING TO LEAN. AT THAT POINT MY TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING ROUGH. WITH IN ABOUT 1.5 MONTHS THE ENGINE STARTED HARD STARTING. I DECIDED TO CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER, BOUGHT ONE FROM AUTO ZONE, CRAWLED UNDER CAR AND COULD NOT FIND A FUEL FILTER. MY G.M. DEALER DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. SO I EXPLAINED IT AGAIN. THEY CAME BACK WITH "IT MUST BE IN THE FUEL TANK. I HAVE CHANGED HUNDREDS OF FUEL FILTERS IN MY 50 YEARS OF BEING A MECHANIC. EVERY AUTOMOBILE I HAVE CHANGED THE IN TANK FUEL PUMP HAS HAD A SCREEN TO CATCH THE LARGE PIECES THAT MAY GET IN YOUR TANK, BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FUEL FILTER IN TANK. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.
I STARTED MY CAR UP AND IT SOUNDED EXTREMELY ROUGH AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO A SERVICE CENTER TO GET OIL CHANGED, COOLANT CHANGED, FUEL SYSTEM CLEANED AND TO GET AN OVERALL CHECK DONE. THEY WERE UNSURE OF THE ISSUE AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS DONE AND IT READ THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TIMING CHAIN. AFTER READING ON HERE AND ONLINE I SEE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. *TR
ON12/14/2014 I PUT GAS IN MY CAR AND THE GAS CAP DID NOT SCREW ON LIKE IT USUALLY DID AND DID NOT CLICK LIKE IT ALWAYS DID. I GOT IN MY CAR AND STARTED THE ENGINE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. I CALLED RANCHO MOTORS AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD TAKE THE CAR TO THEM. I TOOK MY CAR TO THEM ON 12/17/2014. I WAS GIVEN A RIDE HOME WHILE THEY CHECKED OUT MY CAR. ON 12/22/2014, I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH MIKE TARPLEY, THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER. HE SAID MY CAR HAD A STUCK VALVE, THE #2 CYLINDER NEEDED REPAIR AND THE THERMOSTAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS STUCK OPEN. ON 12/23/2014, I CALLED AGAIN AND WAS TOLD MY CAR WOULD NEED A VALVE JOB. I CALLED ON 12/29, 12/30 AND 12/31 AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE WORKING ON IT. ALL THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THE COST OF THIS REPAIR WAS $2,000 AND THEY WOULD GET ME A SENIOR DISCOUNT. I WAS FINALLY TOLD ON 1/5/2015, THAT MY CAR WAS READY AND THEY SENT SOMEONE TO COME GET ME AND TAKE ME TO RANCHO MOTORS. WHEN I GOT THERE I WAS TOLD THE COST WAS $2,500, AND WITH MY DISCOUNT IT WAS $2,355. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY SATURN WITH LOW MILEAGE NEEDED ALL OF THIS WORK. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V519000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
HELLO, THIS VEHICLE IS UNDER RECALL AND I HAVE RECEIVED NOTICES SINCE MARCH 2014 ABOUT THE RECALL. HOWEVER, IT DOESN'T SEEM THAT SATURN/GM IS TAKING THIS RECALL SERIOUSLY, AS I HAVE CALLED THEM 3 TIMES TO SEE IF I COULD GET IT FIXED AND SO FAR THEY HAVE SAID THEY CAN'T FIX IT. WHEN I CALLED BACK IN MARCH, THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE WAITING ON A PART AND SHOULD HAVE THE PARTS BY MID-APRIL. I WAS FINE WITH THAT, AND WAS TOLD TO DRIVE WITH JUST THE KEY (NO EXTRA WEIGHT). THEY SAID I WAS PUT ON A LIST, AND THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY HAD THE PARTS. I WAS FINE WITH THIS AS I HAD NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH THE ENGINE LOSING POWER, BUT OF COURSE WANT TO GET IT FIXED IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS. THAT WAS NOW OVER 3 MONTHS AGO, AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM SATURN/GM. GMS NOTICE SAID TO CONTACT THE NHTSA IF I'M NOT SATISFIED WITH GMS RESPONSE TO THE RECALL, SO THAT IS WHAT I'M DOING. I INITIALLY CONTACTED GM'S CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER BACK IN MARCH, AND THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT MY LOCAL DEALER, WHO IS BILLION AUTO IN IOWA CITY, IOWA (HTTP://WWW.IOWACITYCHEVYCADILLAC.COM/). I'M ASSUMING THAT I'M STILL ON THEIR LIST, AND GM HAS NOT PROVIDED THEM WITH THE PARTS, OR THEY HAVE SO MANY VEHICLES TO FIX THAT I'M JUST TOO FAR DOWN ON THE LIST TO GET IT FIXED IN A REASONABLE TIME. CAR STALLED THEN RAN AGAIN FINE. THOUGHT MAYBE BAD GAS OR SOMETHING. STARTED HEARING A LOUD NOISE IN THE ENGINE. AS I WAS HEADING HOME FROM WORK, ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY HOME ON THE FREEWAY THERE WAS A LOUD "BANG" AND A JOLT IN THE CAR THAT WAS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A HIGH PITCH "SQUEALING" SOUND. I GOT OFF AT THE NEAREST EXIT AND TOOK OTHER ROADS HOME AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. THE SQUEALING CONTINUED THE ENTIRE WAY HOME, BUT WOULD STOP WHEN I HAD TO STOP AT LIGHTS. AS I WAS TURNING ONTO MY STREET, A BATTERY LIGHT ERROR CAME ON THE DASHBOARD AND MY CAR SIMPLY SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT START. I WAS TOWED HOME AND DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS. ON THE 3RD DAY I ATTEMPTED TO JUMP THE CAR WITH ANOTHER CAR AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE ENGINE TO START, BUT IMMEDIATELY A DIFFERENT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A DIFFERENT LOUD SOUND WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE NEW SOUND WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL SQUEALING. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD, I FOUND A LARGE METAL "CHUNK" WAS LYING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE COVER AND A HOLE HAD BEEN MADE FROM WHERE IT CAME OUT OF THE ENGINE BAY FROM. THE ONLY THING I CAN GATHER IS THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE, BECAUSE THE ONLY THING PRECEDING THE INCIDENT WAS A VERY FAINT CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM SOMEWHERE BENEATH THE HOOD. *TR
MY SATURN HAD BEEN IDLING ROUGHLY FOR ABOUT A WEEK. I CHECKED THE OIL IT SEEMED LOW AND I PUT MORE OIL IN. IT SEEMED A LITTLE BETTER. THE CHECK OIL LIGHT HAS NEVER COME ON IN THIS CAR. AFTER TAKING THE CAR DOWN AND BACK TO MY PARENTS IT WOULD NOT TURN ON. TWO CAR DEALERS HAVE TOLD ME IT IS THE TIMING CHAIN AND THAT IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE WITH PARTS AND LABOR 25,00.00 DOLLARS. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2011 IN OCTOBER. I NOW HAVE A CAR I HAVE TO KEEP MAKING PAYMENTS ON TO KEEP MY CREDIT RATING SAFE BUT I CAN'T DRIVE. SO FAR GMC AND THE DEALERS HAVE BEEN UNHELPFUL WITH GETTING MY CAR REPAIRED. I CAN'T AFFORD 2500. DOLLARS. I WENT TO THE BBB AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR AGED OUT OF THE COMPLAINT SYSTEM. 2007 SATURN ION I WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT 02/03/2013, WITH VERY MINIMAL DAMAGE TO MY LEFT, FRONT PANEL. ALMOST A MONTH LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND DROVE FINE FOR 3 DAYS. AFTER THE 3RD DAY MY CAR WOULD TURN OVER BUT IT WOULD NOT START. I HAD THE ORIGINAL REPAIR CENTER INSPECT MY VEHICLE AND THEY TOLD ME THE TIMING CHAIN WAS OFF, BUT IT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE CAR ACCIDENT. I GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE ADVISED ME THAT THE TIMING CHAIN WAS NOT DUE TO MY ACCIDENT. I'VE NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH MY VEHICLE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT AND AFTER SEARCHING THE WEB AND FINDING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT TIMING CHAIN ISSUES, I'M CURIOUS AS TO WHY THERE'S NO RECALL. *TR
AFTER DRIVING MY VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MILES, I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE KEY BACK TO TURN THE VEHICLE ENGINE OFF. THE KEY TURNED BACK AND I WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT, BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT TURN OFF. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE WAS A FAULTY IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE LOCK CYLINDER, WHICH WAS APPARENTLY NOT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT COULD BE RELATED TO THE RECALL THAT GM IS NOW ISSUING, REVOLVING AROUND THE FAULTY IGNITION. DURING THIS VISIT, THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED TO SEE WHY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON AND IT WAS FOUND TO BE VALVE ASSEMBLY AT FAULT IN THE SECONDARY AIR SYSTEM. COULD THIS HAVE BEEN CAUSED FROM THE FAULTY IGNITION AND HAVING TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO STOP THE ENGINE, WHICH IN TURN THROUGH THE ENTIRE COMPUTER OFF IN THE VEHICLE? WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE, MY BILL FOR PARTS, LABOR AND TAX WAS $916.98. LESS THAN SIX MONTHS LATER, THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. DUE TO IT BEING LESS THAN SIX MONTHS, I WAS NOT CHARGED FOR THIS REPLACEMENT. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE DID NOT STOP RUNNING AS IN THE CURRENT 2014 RECALL, COULD THIS STILL BE RELATED TO THE SAME FAULTY IGNITION SITUATION? *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME THROUGH THE MARYLAND MOUNTAINS AFTER VISITING FAMILY FOR THANKSGIVING. I WAS IN A LINE OF CARS TRAVELING AT 70MPH, PASSING A SEMI, WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I COULD BARELY STEER OR PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS I HAD LOST POWER. MY TURN SIGNALS DIDN'T WORK AND I CONSIDERED PUTTING MY HANDS OUT THE WINDOW TO WAVE TO DRIVERS WARNING THEM OF THE IMPENDING DANGER. THANKFULLY THE ONE CAR BEHIND ME MUST HAVE KNOWN SOMETHING WAS WRONG BECAUSE HE BACKED OFF ALLOWING ME TO COAST BEHIND THE SEMI AND EVENTUALLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I CALLED MY DAD IMMEDIATELY AND HE STARTED GOOGLING ENGINE SHUT OFF PROBLEMS AND FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS. WHEN I GOT HOME I CALLED MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME TO CALL THE DEALER. I CALLED THE GM SATURN DEALER IN TOWN AND THE PERSON LAUGHED STATING HE NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE. UNFORTUNATELY, AT THE TIME, I DID NOT MAKE AN OFFICIAL REPORT WITH ANY OTHER AGENCY. BUT I DO HAVE EMAILS THAT WERE WRITTEN TO FRIENDS EXPLAINING THE FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE SHORTLY AFTER THE INCIDENT. THIS CAR IS A 2007 AND I DIDN'T PURCHASE THE VEHICLE UNTIL 2011! 5 YEARS AFTER GM KNEW OF THE DEATH TRAP ON WHEELS. WHEN I ORIGINALLY RESEARCHED THIS CAR NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS CAME UP ON MY SEARCH. IT WASN'T UNTIL I SEARCHED FOR THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM (ENGINE SHUT OFF) THAT HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS SURFACED. I'M LUCKY TO BE ALIVE TODAY! THE CONTACT BEGAN TO NOTICE AN UNUSUAL GASOLINE FUEL ODOR FOLLOWING REPAIRS AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE EPOXY, PLACED AROUND THE FUEL FILLER NECK INSTALLED DURING THE RECALL REPAIR, WAS FRACTURING AND CAUSING THE LEAK. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL TANK WOULD ALSO NEED REPLACING. THE DEALER OFFERED TO TAKE 10 PERCENT OFF OF THE TOTAL REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HIS CASE WOULD BE ESCALATED TO THE DISTRICT MANAGER AND THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RETURN CALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,700 . UPDATED 01/13/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED HE PERFORMED THE REPAIR ON THE FUEL TANK THAT WAS PARTIALLY EFFECTIVE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS NOT ABLE TO AFFORD THE $800 REPAIR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. THE VEHICLE HAS A SMALL EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CONTROL LEAK. UPDATED 01/25/11. *JB
I PURCHASED THE 2007 IN MAY OF 2007. AS OF TODAY, THE CAR HAS 18,000 ON IT. DIRECTLY AFTER I GOT THE CAR, I BEGAN TO HAVE SEVERE HEADACHES. THE CAR MOSTLY RAN WITHOUT ANY ISSUES, JUST THAT I HAS VERY BAD HEADACHES, AND THEN BEGAN TO BLACK OUT WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL MEDICAL BILLS, INCLUDING A 5 DAY STAY IN JUNE AFTER AN ACCIDENT. ALL OF THE TESTS COMPLETED SHOWED THAT I DID NOT HAVE ANY TUMORS, HOWEVER I DID HAVE A RISE IN THE CO LEVELS. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER,AND A DEVISE WAS PLACED ON THE CAR. THE DEALER THEN DROVE THE CAR HOME, AND SAID THAT HE FELT LIGHT HEADED, AND WAS UNSURE IF IT WAS THE CAR. HE THEN DROVE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING AND PLACED THE DEVICE ON IT AGAIN. ON 2 OCCASIONS HE REPORTED TO ME THAT HE HAD RECORDED DIFFERENT READINGS, BOTH VERY HIGH. HE THEN CALLED SATURN DIRECTLY, AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO WAIT AND HE WOULD SEND ANOTHER DEVICE TO RECORD THE CO LEVELS. THAT SAME EVENING, I WAS CALLED BY DAVID QUIRK THE OWNER OF THE BUSINESS, AND HE SAID THAT HE PERSONALLY DROVE THE CAR AND TOOK IT TO THE CAR TO A FIRE HOUSE, AND HAD A FIREMAN THAT HE KNEW AND HE SAID THAT HE COULD NOT DETECT ANYTHING IN THE CAR. CLEARLY, THIS WAS JUST A TACTIC TO SEE IF I WAS GOING TO SUE HIM. I ONLY WANT FOR THE CAR TO BE REPLACED. *TR
VEHICLE TRAVELED THROUGH WATER PUDDLE ON A RAIN SOAKED ROADWAY. PUDDLE WAS NO DEEPER THAN MID- TIRE HEIGHT LEVEL. ENGINE STALLED OUT CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING AND SOME BRAKING ABILITY. ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND VEHICLE DROVE LESS THAN TWO MILES HOME. NEXT DAY, ENGINE STARTED AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. ENGINE SKIPPING AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP REPORTED THAT WATER HAD BEEN DRAWN INTO THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE, WHICH IS LOCATED AT FRONT BUMPER LEVEL ON RIGHT SIDE OF VEHICLE, AND INTO TRAVELED THROUGH THE SYSTEM INTO THE ENGINE. WATER PRESENT IN AT LEAST TWO CYLINDERS, INTAKE MANIFOLD, AND OIL PAN. ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. DEALER, NOR MANUFACTURER, WOULD HONOR WARRANTY. AUTO INSURANCE CLAIM FILED AND PAID. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE THIS MODEL IN RAINEY WEATHER. *TR
