I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 SCION XB TO MY OFFICE. AS I SLOWED DOWN AND TURNED INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE ENGINE ACCELERATED TO 3000 RPMS JUMPED THE CURB AND RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE BUILDING. WHEN I REPORTED THESE FACTS TO A TOYOTA DEALER THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A CAR DOING THAT AND IT MUST HAVE BEEN A MISTAKE ON MY PART. SINCE THE REPAIR OF THE CAR IN A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS THE ENGINE HAS DONE THIS FOUR OTHER TIMES THE REPAIR PEOPLE SAY THEY CAN'T FIX IT UNLESS IT HAPPENS WHEN THEY ARE WORKING ON THE CAR. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS IN THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS FOR THE ACCELERATOR. I GET NO RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA. *TR
WINDSHIELD KEEPS CRACKING. I AM OWN MY SECOND WINDSHIELD. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 SCION XB I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED SO FAR DUE TO CRACKS CAUSED BY ROCKS. I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH SCION XB'S BUT TOYOTA OF SCION IS NO HELP WHAT SO EVERY THEY KEEP GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TYPE OF PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH ANY OTHER CARS I'VE HAD AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO HAVE A WINDSHIELD REPLACED. THIS CAR SEEMS LIKE !! I HAVE CONTACTED SCION WITH NO LUCK. WHEN WILL THIS BE FIX?? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION XB. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER THE CRASH, THE PEDAL WAS STILL STUCK TO THE FLOOR, EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 89,700.
2005 SCION XB WE HAVE HAD TO PUT THREE WINDSHIELDS IN, FOUR SETS OF TIRES AND NOW THE SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT. WE JUST SPENT TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS AT THE DEALERSHIP, IT HAD TO HAVE THE SEAT BELTS DONE, THE CRUISE CONTROL STUCK ALL THE TIME AND WE NEVER GOT RECALL LETTERS, I WENT ON LINE. I AM SO CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY SON. THERE SHOULD NEVER BE THREE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENTS, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE DEAL ON THIS IS AND WE HAVE CHECKED THE TIRES DAILY. I APPRECIATE THE INFORMATION HERE. *TR
I WAS A PASSENGER IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY '05 SCION WHEN WE WERE REAR ENDED AT LOW IMPACT APPROX 15 MPR. I IMMEDIATELY FELT INTENSE PAIN BETWEEN MY SHOULDER BLADES FROM THE IMPACT OF THE FRAME AROUND BACKSEAT AND HEADREST AREA. I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING TREATMENT FOR MY INJURY EVER SINCE. HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE METAL FRAME WITHIN THE BACK OF THE BACKSEAT, I WOULD NOT HAVE ANY INJURY. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO KNOW THAT IF AN ADULT SITS IN THE BACKSEAT, THEY ARE IN DANGER OF POSSIBLE INJURY IF REARENDED. AND THE INJURY IS FROM THEIR SEAT CONSTRUCTION, NOT WHIPLASH. *TR
SEVERAL LIGHTS TURN ON CONSOLE DUE TO TECHNICAL RECALL. DEALERSHIP DID NOT FIX ISSUE DUE TO LIGHTS NOT BEING ON. I'VE TAKEN TO 2 OTHER MECHANICS WHO SAID TAKE CAR TO DEALERSHIP. CAR WAS CLOSE ON (AND NOW OUT OF ) WARRANTY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AS I LOOKED ON MANY SITES IN REGARDS TO 2005 SCION XB'S AND FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. THE LIGHTS WILL TURN OFF AFTER IGNITION IS RESTARTED NUMEROUS TIMES, THEREFORE REMOVING THE DATA FROM THE COMPUTER. TRAC CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE, YOU CAN FEEL THE CAR SHUTTER AND TRYING TO CATCH. *TR
THE SCION XB SEEMS PARTICULARLY PRONE TO WINDSHIELD DAMAGE. A TINY ROCK HIT IT ONCE BEFORE, AND A LARGE CRACK FORMED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. I REPLACED THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD AND THEN WITHIN 2 WEEKS, I HAD THE SAME SITUATION AGAIN. *TR
SPONTANEOUS CRACK ON WINDSHIELD OF MY XB SCION. IT HAS BEEN CRACKED OUT OF MY FIELD OF VISION FOR OVER A YEAR, AND THEN JUST A FEW WEEKS BACK IT CRACK ALL THE WAY ACROSS! *TR

VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL; TRACTION CONTROL; CHECK ENGINE HAVE ALL LIT UP. THIS FIRST OCCURRED IN SEPTEMBER 2007 THE DEALERSHIP HAD MY CAR FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS BEFORE THEY "FIXED IT" BY REPLACING SOMETHING WITH MY CAM SHAFT? THEY STATED IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OF A RECALL. JANUARY 1, 2008 THE LIGHTS ALL REAPPEARED, I BROUGHT IT BACK AND WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING COULD BE FOUND WRONG AND THAT THE LIGHTS RESET THEMSELVES. NOW FEBRUARY 13, 2008 THE LIGHTS HAVE COME BACK ON AGAIN ACCOMPANIED BY A VERY LOUD SQUEALING COMING FROM MY STEERING. *TR
THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL; TRACTION CONTROL; CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAVE COME ON AND REMAINED ON. THE LIGHT WAS TEMPORARILY DEACTIVATED WHEN A CAM GEAR WAS REPLACED AT WAGNER TOYOTA IN LANCASTER MA. THE ERROR CODE RETURNED AND HAS REMAINED ON DESPITE LEAVING THE CAR AT GATORLAND TOYOTA IN GAINESVILLE FL ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER AFTER FIRST REPLACING THE COMPUTER ADVISED ME THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO REPAIR MY CAR. I AM UNCERTAIN WHETHER THE VSC OR THE TRACTION CONTROL IS OPERATIONAL AT THIS TIME (SAFETY CONCERN). *TR
I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON DELAWARE STATE HIGHWAY 1 TOWARDS OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND, MAINTAINED A CONSTANT SPEED OF 50 MPH WHEN THE TAIL PIPE ON THE SCION XB 2005 RELEASED SERIES 2.0 FELL OFF WITHOUT WARNING. IT BOUNCED AGAINST THE ROAD, FLEW UP, AND HIT THE SUV DRIVING BEHIND ME IN THE WINDSHIELD. FORTUNATELY, THE WINDSHIELD DID NOT CRACK, AND THE DRIVER , AFTER WE BOTH PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, DROVE OFF WITHOUT INCIDENT. I WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE TAIL PIPE. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAS BEEN KEPT IN EXCELLENT WORKING CONDITION WITH FREQUENT ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. HOWEVER, I NOTE THAT POOR WELDING ON THE TAIL PIPES OF THE RELEASE SERIES 2.0 HAS BEEN RECORDED FREQUENTLY ONLINE. SEE, HTTP://WWW.SCIONLIFE.COM/FORUMS/VIEWTOPIC.PHP?T=105750. ONLY 2500 OF THE CARS WITH THIS MUFFLER WERE PRODUCED, AND OVER A DOZEN COMPLAINTS WERE EASILY OBSERVABLE ONLINE. I WAS HAPPY THAT THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS AN SUV INSTEAD OF A MOTORCYCLE, AS THE FLYING TAILPIPE COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED A MOTORCYCLE DRIVER. I AM PRESENTLY ATTEMPTING TO REPLACE THE PART, BUT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT IT WA SNO LONGER AVAILABLE. SCION HAS REPLIED THAT THE DEALER NEEDED TO SEARCH FOR THE PART NUMBER VIA THE VIN NUMBER, AND I AM AWAITING THE RESULT ON THIS COUNT.*AK
JUNE 19, 2007 I NOTICED THAT MY MUFFLER WAS LOUDER THAN USUAL AND NOTICED THAT THE TIP OF MY MUFFLER WAS MISSING. I OWN A SCION 2005 XB RELEASE SERIES 2.0 VEHICLE. THERE WERE 2500 OF THESE CARS MANUFACTURED AND THEY HAVE A SPECIAL DC SPORT EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE DEALER INITIALLY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. UPON LOOKING AT THE WEB SITE ENTITLED SCIONLIFE.COM, I FOUND A FORUM THAT CONTAINED MANY SCION XB RELEASE SERIES 2.0 OWNERS WHOSE MUFFLER TIPS HAD COME APART. I PROVIDED THIS INFORMATION TO THE DEALER. THE NOISE INSIDE MY VEHICLE CAN BE OPPRESSIVE WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL. JULY 6, 2007 THE DEALER STATES THAT HE IS ORDERING A MUFFLER AND THAT IT WILL BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. AS OF JULY 19, THE PART IS STILL ON ORDER. AFTER SEEING THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE MUFFLER ON THESE VEHICLES, I BELIEVE THAT IT IS A DEFECTIVE MUFFLER AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED BY A FLYING MUFFLER TIP. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD REPLACE THESE MUFFLERS WITH A SAFER AND MORE RELIABLE EXHAUST SYSTEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION XB. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TIP OF THE MUFFLER WOULD SPORADICALLY CRACK AND THEN FALL OFF. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE AND THEY REPLACED THE EXHAUST. ONE YEAR LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. A REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS AT THE COST OF $439. THE MANUFACTURERS OF THE VEHICLE AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,320 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,040.

I AM NOW FORCED TO REPLACE MY WINDSHIELD FOR THE THIRD TIME ON MY SCION XB 05'. EVERY TIME IT STARTS OUT WITH A TINY CHIP THAT LEADS TO A CRACK THAT SPREADS QUICKLY. THE DESIGN OF THE CAR AND THE ANGLE OF THE GLASS CONTRIBUTE TO THIS PROBLEM. *JB
WE HAVE A 2005 SCION XB WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED TWICE SO FAR DUE TO CRACKS CAUSED BY ROCKS. IN ADDITION WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE CHIPS REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE HEARD THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH SCION XB'S BUT EVEN THOUGH SCION IS NO HELP. IN ALL MY YEARS OF HAVING CARS I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TYPE OF PROBLEM LIKE THIS AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO HAVE A WINDSHEILD REPLACED. WHILE OPENING THE REAR HATCH DOOR THE HANDLE SNAPPED AND NO LONGER CAN BE USED TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE ELECTRIC NO LONGER WORKS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, I CAN NOT OPEN OR LOCK THESE DOORS. THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS REMAIN ON NO MATTER HOW OFTEN I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO FIX. THESE PROBLEMS ARE EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AND IT SEEMS THEY CAN NOT REPAIR THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
2005 SCION XB WINDSHIELD. ROCK CHIPS TURN INTO HUGE CRACKS! I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE WINDSHIELD DO THIS. WHAT WOULD THE POINT BE IN REPLACING IT?! ARE THERE ANY RECALLS FOR THESE WINDSHIELDS? *TR
MY SCION SB HAS HAD THE REAR HATCH LOCK, AND LIGHTING WITH LICENSE PLATE BREAK 5 TIMES, SCION DEALER DID IT FIRST AND CHARGED $599.00. SINCE THEN I HAVE BOUGHT THE PARTS AND DID THE WORK MYSELF. *TR
(1) CORNERING HARD AT HIGH SPEED (45-60 MPH) (2) MY 2005 SCION XB'S ABS SYSTEM APPLIES THE BRAKES WITHOUT MY TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS CAUSES THE CAR TO VEER OPPOSITE AWAY FROM THE DIRECTION I'M STEERING TOWARD THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE OR OFF THE ROAD. (3) THE MECHANIC AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THAT BRAKING SYSTEM AND HE COULD NOT REPAIR IT. *NM
SUBJECT: 2005 SCION XB STRUCTURAL SAFETY ITEM AFTER PURCHASE OF THE ABOVE AUTOMOBILE IT WAS DISCOVERED THERE IS NO MECHANICAL WAY TO OPEN THE REAR TRUNK DOOR. IT HAS NO KEY, NO EXTERNAL HANDLE, AND NO CABLE RELEASE. ENTRY AND EXIT IS DEPENDENT SOLELY ON THE BATTERY-POWERED WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL. IF THAT SHOULD FAIL OR BREAK, ONE HAS TO CLIMB INTO THE REAR AND REMOVE A PANEL SECURED WITH FASTENERS TO RELEASE THE LOCK. CONSIDER - SOUTH FLORIDA WITH NUMEROUS WATER-FILLED CANALS - ACROSS ALLIGATOR ALLEY CARS RUN INTO CANALS OFTEN, NOSE-FIRST. DRIVER HAS NO WAY TO RELEASE REAR LOCK. YOUR OFFICE RECENTLY ISSUED A DIRECTIVE TO INSTALL EMERGENCY INTERNAL LOCK RELEASES FOR NORMAL CAR TRUNKS. HOW DID THE SCION PASS INSPECTION? I TRIED CONTACTING THE SCION ORGANIZATION ON THIS SUBJECT, AND WAS UNABLE TO SPEAK TO ANYONE WITH ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS SUBJECT. SHOULD YOU CONCUR WITH MY REPORT, PERHAPS SCION COULD BE ENCOURAGED TO PROVIDE A FIX. *JB
ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCURRENCES (6/2005 AND 8/2005, 6/20,2006 AND 6/23, 2006) WHILE DRIVING AND APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT, THE CAR REVVED UP AND LUNGED FORWARD. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON JULY 3, 2006 AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. *NM
FRONT END COLLISION ON 2005 TOYOTA SCION XB, BOTH SENSORS WERE SMASHED AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING A COLLISION. THE VEHICLE WAS SIDE SWIPED THEN HIT A ROCK WALL WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT END. THIS OCCURRED AT 65 MPH AND THE DAMAGE WAS BETWEEN THE CORNER AND HEADLIGHTS. THE SEATBELTS WERE WORN, BUT THE OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY A MECHANIC.
EARLIER IN 2011 WHILE ACCESSING THE REAR OF MY CAR THROUGH THE HATCH DOOR, MY HATCH HANDLE SNAPPED OFF COMPLETELY. AFTER FURTHER LOOKING INTO THE ISSUE, I DISCOVERED THAT THE PLASTIC CLIPS BUILT INTO THE HANDLES BROKE. MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IS AWARE OF THE "ISSUE" AND ACKNOWLEDGES THAT IT IS A "DEFECT" WITH THIS SPECIFIC MAKE AND MODEL CAR. ON TOP OF THAT, I HAVE BOTH SEEN MANY BROKEN HATCH HANDLES WHILE ON THE ROAD, AND READ MANY OTHER INCIDENTS SIMILAR TO MINE ON SEVERAL NOTABLE SCION FORUMS ONLINE. OTHERS REPORT THAT THEIR TOYOTA DEALERS FIXED THE ISSUE, FREE PART, BUT STILL CHARGED UPWARDS OF $100 FOR LABOR. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS PROBLEM GET FIXED BY TOYOTA AS IT IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 100 SMALL FRACTURES AND CHIPS IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AS WELL AS FOUR LARGER, DIME-SIZED CHIPS. THE INSURANCE COMPANY ADVISED THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE ANY DEFECT THAT WAS NOT IN THE CONTACT'S LINE OF SIGHT.THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE HAS EXISTED SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,000.
*****ATTENTION***** *****SCION XB SEAT BELTS VERY DANGEROUS FOR LITTLE KIDS********* REAR DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELTS LOCKING TO THE POINT OF EXTREME PAIN AND SUFFOCATION. THE BELT MECHANISM ONCE LOCKED IT CONTINUES TO RACHET BACKWARD TO ITS LOCKING STATE SO THAT IF ONE LEANS BACK ON THE SEAT YOU BECOME GLUED TO IT. THE SEAT BELT WILL NOT GIVE IN FORWARD WHICH MAKES DIFFICULT TO REACH THE UNLATCH BUTTON. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN!. MY SON (7 YRS OLD) FELL ASLEEP WHILE ON THE FREEWAY ONLY TO WAKE UP WITH HIS SEAT BELT LOCKED, I SUGGESTED TO LEAN BACKWARD ON THE SEAT TO GIVE IT SOME SLACK AND THEN TO PULL FORWARD, TO MY SURPRISED THE SEAT BELT BECAME TIGHTER. ONCE I PULLED OVER IT HAD BECOME SO TIGHT AROUND MY SON'S CHEST THAT IT WAS CAUSING HIM PAIN AND DIFFICULTY BREATHING. I IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO UNLATCH IT BUT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH THE BUTTON DOWN. THE ONLY OPTION WAS TO REMOVE THE REAR SIDE PANEL (BEHIND THE BACK SEAT) AND REMOVE THE ENTIRE LOCKING MECHANISM FROM THE CAR FRAME. IT'S BEEN TWO DAYS SINCE THE INCIDENT AND THE BELT IS STILL LOCKED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!!! AND IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN IN A FENDER BENDER, FIRE OR AN ACCIDENT COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY IF NOT DEATH... I'M VERY CONCERNED WILL GET RID OFF THIS CAR..... I WILL BE FILING A COMPLAINT TO THE MANUFACTURER. *NM
THE DRIVER DOOR DETENT ON THE 2005 SCION XB VIN JTLK324154008954 DOES NOT HOLD ON A MODEST INCLINE, CREATING A SERIOUS INJURY HAZARD. REPORTED PROBLEM TO DEALER (RIVERHEAD TOYOTA). RESPONSE: "VEHICLE NOT DESIGNED TO. NO PROBLEM FOUND". THE DEALER IS WRONG. THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE A COMBINATION OF 2 PROBLEMS -- AN INADEQUATE DETENT FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE DOOR COMBINED WITH APPLICATION OF EXCESSIVE WHITE GREASE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO DESIGN A STRONGER DETENT AND ALL SERVICE PERSONNEL NEED TO BE WARNED NOT TO APPLY ANY GREASE TO THE DETENT AND TO REMOVE ANY GREASE APPLIED AT THE FACTORY OR IN PRIOR SERVICE. *NM
MY ACCELERATOR STUCK WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC. I WAS GOING 55MPH AND SLOWED TO 30 DUE TO TRAFFIC. WHEN I SLOWED THE ENGINE REVED. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT KEPT REVING. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AGAIN AND IT RESET. I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ON BUT NOT ENGAGED. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER AND THEY CHECKED OUT THE CAR AND TOLD ME THEY COULD FIND NOTHING. THAT WAS 9/28/2005.
THE FIRST NIGHT THAT I DROVE IT, I WAS IN THE HILLY COUNTRY AND NOTICED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. WITH LOW BEAM ON THE LIGHT DOES NOT SHINE ANY HIGHER THAN ABOUT 3 FEET OFF THE GROUND. GOING DOWN THE HILL THE LIGHTS ONLY SHINE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL, NOT UP THE OTHER SIDE LIKE A NORMAL VEHICLE. WHEN I REACHED THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL, MY WIFE SCREAMED AT ME. THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WAS A LARGE BUCK. THE LIGHTS DID NOT ILLUMINATE HIM. WITH ANOTHER CAR COMING I COULDN'T USE MY BRIGHT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER A FEW DAYS LATER BECAUSE THEY HAD ONLY 2 MECHANICS AND COULDN'T HANDLE ANYMORE WORK. THEY CALLED ME THAT FRIDAY AND TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN MONDAY. NO-ONE AT THAT DEALERSHIP KNEW HOW THE LIGHTS WERE SUPPOSED TO WORK. NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUCKS THEY SELL. THE MASTER MECHANIC WORKED ON IT TWICE. HE TOLD ME THAT HE DROVE HIS DAUGHTERS TUNDRA AND THAT WHAT I HAD DESCRIBED WAS FACT. HE ALSO STATED THAT IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE COMPLAINTS. THEY HAD NO IDEA WHY IT WAS LIKE THAT. AFTER 3 TELEPHONE CALLS TO TRY AND GET SOME SATISFACTORY AFTER THE SALE CUSTOMER SERVICE, FROM A DEALERSHIP WHERE THERE IS NONE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP CLOSED MY CASE. I WILL NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT. TOO DANGEROUS. *JB
PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT BELT (MAY APPLY TO REAR BELTS AS WELL) RETRACTOR DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE BELTS APPEAR TO HAVE A LIMIT SET ON THEM THAT IS TOO SHORT FOR THE VEHICLE CONFIGURATION. A SIMPLE ACT SUCH AS LEANING FORWARD SLIGHTLY IN THE PASSENGER SEAT TO OPEN THE GLOVE BOX CAN CAUSE THE SEAT BELT TO LIMIT UP AND BEGIN IT'S LOCK DOWN. IT THEN BEGINS TO RATCHET BACKWARDS AND WILL NOT GIVE IN THE FORWARD DIRECTION AT ALL. IF THE PASSENGER LEANS BACK IT TIGHTENS FURTHER, AND BECOMES DIFFICULT TO DISENGAGE FROM THE LATCH MECHANISM. THE ONLY OPTION IF THE LIMIT IS ACCIDENTALLY REACHED IS TO UNDO THE SEAT BELT, LET IT ALL THE WAY BACK, AND PULL IT OUT AGAIN. MY WIFE AND I OFTEN FIND OURSELVES HAVING TO DO IT WHILE ON THE FREEWAY OR IN OTHER SITUATIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, BECAUSE OF THE RATCHETING ACTION. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THE DRIVER'S BELT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT SEEMS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY WITHOUT THIS LIMIT AND RATCHET BACK SYSTEM. DRIVER'S SIDE HAS NO ISSUES FOR THE SAME PERSON DOING ACTIONS THAT MAY REACH EVEN FURTHER THAN THE PASSENGER MIGHT NORMALLY DO. ALSO, PAINT VERY EASILY CHIPS AND SCRATCHES. LEANING AGAINST THE CAR TOO HARD, OR ACCIDENTALLY RUNNING A FINGERNAIL ON IT CAUSES SEVERE WHITE SCRATCHES TO APPEAR ON MY DARK RED SCION XB. *NM
GLASS ROOF/SUNROOF ASSEMBLY CONSTANTLY CREAKS AND POPS. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND TSB PERFORMED, NOISES WENT AWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AND NOISE RETURNED. TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP, WAS INFORMED IT NEEDED "LUBRICATION" AND IT SHOULD BE FINE, NOISES HAVE RETURNED AGAIN. ALSO, THE HATCHBACK ALWAYS RATTLES, AS RECOMMENDED BY A SCION MESSAGE BOARD, SLIGHTLY LARGER BUMP STOPS WERE PURCHASED, WHICH LESSENED THE RATTLING, BUT IS STILL PRESENT WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS, SOUNDS LIKE IF HATCH WAS NOT FULLY CLOSED, BUT IT IS. ALL OF THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS FOR A SCION TC, OPTION FOR THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT AVAILABLE IN COMPLAINT FORM SO A SCION XB WAS SELECTED. *JB
I first reported the break, airbag, and acceleration failure on my brand new 2005 Scion XB on June 20, 2005. I only had the Daihatsu/ Toyota two week when a driver in front of me stopped short at a Yield sign forcing me to slam on my brakes. immediately heard the sound of metal snapping and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I pumped the pedal to the floor but there was no resistance. The vehicle immediately accelerated, and I struck the rear of Ford Explorer at about 30-35 miles per hour. I suffered catastrophic injuries. I filed complaints at every level of government possible, but no one would investigate my claims. My FDFS complaint dated [XXX] might be the first to accurately report and describe causation regarding of these known defects sold by Toyota/Daihatsu with willful intent to defraud the public by fraudulent concealment of these known Defective Products. Toyota/ Daihatsu's Top Brass had full knowledge of the danger they were selling to the American Public under the Toyota Brand built on Safety. In a criminal conspiracy designed to defraud the U,S. Government by importing and selling 200,000 Scion models 2003, 2004, 2005 without safety crash testing thru Project Genesis. Toyota/Daihatsu didn't just cheat on safety testing on these models they failed to perform any safety crash testing until the model change in 2006 then just included all models 2003, 2004, 2005 into the 2006 rating applying those standards to all models. THE WINDSHIELD IN MY VEHICLE IS NOT VERY GOOD. IN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS IT CRACKED AND SOON AFTER I HAD ANOTHER CRACK. I DID NOT HEAR ANY HIT ON MY WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. DT: THE BRAKE SYSTEM (NOT ABS) FAILED. SHE WAS NOT GETTING A WARNING SIGN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE GOING BAD. DEALERSHIP AND THE MANUFACTURER SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE BRAKES WENT OUT AT 12,000 MILES. *AK

ON, 4 JAN 2006, MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING A TOYOTA SCION XB, 2005. SHE ATTEMPTED TO STOP BEHIND A VEHICLE THAT HAS STOPPED AT A YIELD SIGN. SHE COULD NOT STOP BECAUSE THE THROTTLE HAD STUCK. SHE RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, DAMAGING HER FRONT END. *NM
THERE IS A DRIVING PROBLEM WITH A NEW CAR WHEN STARTING IT WITH A COLD ENGINE. THE VEHICLE BUCKS AND JERKS WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED UNTIL THE ENGINE IS WARMED UP. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT PRODUCE TROUBLE CODES. THEREFORE, THE DEALER CLAIMS IT IS OPERATING NORMALLY ALTHOUGH THE JERKING AND BUCKING IS QUITE DISRUPTIVE AND NOT AT ALL NORMAL. *AK
THE SCION TC WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION HAS A MAJOR FLAW WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD AND DRIVEN SLOWLY. THE ENGINE BUCKS AND JERKS VIOLENTLY UNTIL THE ENGINE WARMS UP. IT WILL ONLY HAPPEN WHEN DRIVEN SLOWLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. THE VEHICLE WILL BUCK AND JERK, VIOLENTLY SOME TIMES, UNTIL THE TEMPERATURE NEEDLE MOVES. IT HAPPENS IN SUMMER AND WINTER AND IS OK WHEN THE ENGINE IS EVENTUALLY WARMED UP. THE DEALER CAN DO NOTHING FOR IT AS THE COMPUTER PROGRAMMING IS FIXED BY TOYOTA. *NM
