The contact owns a 2014 Scion XB. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the contact observed an abnormal burning odor. The contact stated that on several occasions while inspecting the engine oil, the contact became aware that the oil level was low, and oil was added to the vehicle. The oil warning light was occasionally illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil, and that the short block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
CAR BURNING OIL, 128000 MILES. OIL LIGHT CAN ON BEFORE OIL CHANGE WAS NEEDED. CHECKED OIL LEVEL IT WAS REALLY LOW. NO VISIBLE LEAKS. I HAD TO ADD 1 QUART OF OIL 1 MONTH GETTING OIL CHANGED. I HAVE READ THAT SCION XB HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH OIL CONSUMPTION BECAUSE OF THE PISTON RINGS IN PREVIOUS MODELS.WONDERING IF MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SEVERE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE OIL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING A LOT OF OIL. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO NORTH HOLLYWOOD TOYOTA (4606 LANKERSHIM BLVD, NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA 91602) WHERE THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN ISSUE HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.*DT
