Open the full vehicle complaint log (all categories)TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, FUEL FUMES EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. FOUND SERIOUS FUEL LEAKING FROM THE FUEL LINES AND INTAKE MANIFOLD. DEALER/OTHER OWNERS REPORTED SAME PROBLEMS FOR THIS MODEL. *TR
UPON STARTING THE CAR ON A COLD DAY (AROUND 0 F), A VERY STRONG RAW GASOLINE SMELL CAME THROUGH THE DASHBOARD VENTS. THE ODOR DISSIPATED WHILE DRIVING, BUT EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED/IDLING (EVEN AFTER THE ENGINE WAS WARMED UP), THE OVERWHELMING GASOLINE VAPOR ODOR CAME BACK THROUGH THE VENTS. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND IDENTIFIED A POTENTIAL SOURCE--IN MY 2.2L ENGINE, THERE IS A SHORT RUBBER HOSE CONNECTING TWO METAL FUEL LINES THAT BECOMES WETTED WITH FUEL AND SOMETIMES EVEN DRIPS DOWN ONTO THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS CERTAINLY SEEMS TO BE ONE SOURCE, IF NOT THE ONLY ONE, FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE NOT ONLY FOR THE PASSENGERS' HEALTH, BUT INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AS WELL. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA. A high complaint count may reflect vehicle popularity, not defect severity. Data sourced from NHTSA public records.
