Subaru refuses to do a recall for their CVT transmission issue even though this is a know issue with the 2010-2012 Legacy. The car stalls when coming to a stop. Subaru never informed their owners of an issue and now refuse to pay for any repairs, if this was to become a recall then they would be required to pay for the repairs, and then there would be less unsafe vehicles on the road
1. When coming to a stop the vehicle will shudder and stall. Vehicle drives fine until slowing down to and then will sometimes shudder and stall. 2. The car stalling when slowing down others drivers can hit you as they do not expect you to come to a complete stop. 3. I am taking the car to the dealer tomorrow. 4. I have notified the dealer of the issue and I have found two bulletins from the manufacture regarding this issue, which I found from other people who have complained of the same exact problem with their make of vehicle 5. No warning lights came on, I would slow down for a stop sign and before even stopping the car shudders and stalls, I have to put the car in park to start the and the car so far has started.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING AND CAME TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMAL. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT EACH TIME THE VEHICLE SHIFTED DOWN AND COME TO A STOP, IT WOULD STALLED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE CONTACT CALLED ED REILLY SUBARU DEALER, LOCATED AT 150 MANCHESTER ST, CONCORD, NH 03301, (603) 225-0200, AND INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTOR THAT FAILED AND WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT AN INTERSECTION (CAME TO A HARD STOP) AFTER DECELERATION AND THE ENGINE HESITATED, THEN STALLED/STOPPED COMPLETELY. I MUST PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE TO REMEDY THE STALL. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK. IN TWO SITUATIONS, THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME HAD STARTED TO ACCELERATE, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION BECAUSE I MUST PUT THE CAR IN '(P)ARK' TO RESTART THE CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE CAR STOPS SO ABRUPTLY.
TORQUE CONVERTER- STALLS WHEN COMING TO A STOP
THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILING AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO PAY $2,100 WHICH I'M NOT DOING AND IT'S AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH SUBARUS WITH CVT TRANSMISSIONS WHICH MAKES ITS STALL WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE WHEN IT HAPPENS TO ME EVERY SINGLE DAY NOW EVER SINCE THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT IT LAST.
ON THE 2010 SUBARU LEGACY 2.5GT THE UNDER HOOD EMISSIONS LABEL SHOWS A MISPRINT. THE LABEL INCLUDES THE WORD "AIR" INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE A EMISSIONS RELATED AIR PUMP. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT! THIS WAS APPARENTLY UPDATED ON THE 2012 MODELS BUT NOT THE 2010. THIS ERROR ON SUBARU'S PART IS CAUSING ME TO FAIL CALIFORNIA'S EMISSIONS TEST. I NOW HAVE TO VISIT A REFEREE BECAUSE OF THIS ERROR.
WHEN MAKING A HARD BREAK THE RPM'S WILL DROP SO LOW THAT THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN TO SHUDDER AND THEN EVENTUALLY STALL. THIS I FIND IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHERE I'VE BEEN AT AN INTERSECTION AND HAD TO HARD BREAK AND I HAVE TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON BEFORE I CAN MOVE OUT OF THE WAY. THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY SAME YEAR 2010 FOR THE SUBARU OUTBACK MANUAL, I HAVE THE CVT TRANSMISSION SO I'M SURE THEY DIFFER BUT ESSENTIALLY DESCRIBED AS THE SAME ISSUE. I NOTICE IT MORE AT THE BEGINNING OF MY DRIVES IF I DRIVE FOR OVER A HALF HOUR I DON'T RECALL EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE ANY LONGER. IT'S BEEN PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. I READ ONLINE THAT SOUND CORRECT TO THE PROBLEM WITH A REFLASH SOME CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND SOME A NEW TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN PUTTING MY CAR IN NEUTRAL TO KEEP THE RPMS FROM DROPPING OUT SO LOW THAT THE CAR STALLS OUT
ENGINE HAS STALLED (COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN) 5 TIMES AT LOW RPM, LEAVING ALL SYSTEMS OFF, INCLUDING POWER STEERING. CONDITIONS OF EACH STALL: LOW RPM, VEHICLE DECELERATING, CLUTCH ENGAGED, SHIFTER IN NEUTRAL, HOT AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE, AIR CONDITIONER ON. MORE PREVALENT (4 OUT OF 5 OCCURRENCES) WHEN ENGINE IS COLD (WITHIN MINUTES OF STARTING). ENGINE RESTARTS NORMALLY. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, AS THE STALLS HAVE OCCURRED TWICE WHILE PERFORMING A TURN ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. *TR
START CAR , ENGINE COLD, OR AT LEAST NOT FULLY WARMED UP. WHILE DRIVING, PUSH CLUTCH IN , TAKE FOOT OFF GAS TO SHIFT. ENGINE REVS DROP TO NEAR ZERO. ENGINE STALLS. ITS INTERMITTENT. BUT SOME ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE THAT HOT WEATHER EXAGGERATES THE ISSUE. SEEMS TO HAPPEN LESS WHEN ENGINE IS FULLY WARMED UP. DEALER HAS RECREATED THE PROBLEM, BUT SAID THEY CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT FIXING IT. THIS CAR HAS DIED IN INTERSECTIONS TWICE AND ALSO ON OPEN ROAD IN TRAFFIC. *TR
DRIVING A 2010 SUBARU LEGACY ON A NARROW STREET WITH A 90 DEGREE TURN. ENTERING THE TURN THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS PRESSED DISENGAGING THE CLUTCH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED SLIGHTLY - THE CAR STALLED AS THE ENGINE DIED. SINCE IT WAS A TURN AND THE CAR HAS POWER STEERING THE NOSE WAS IN THE OPPOSITE LANE BEFORE IT STOPPED. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW 2010 SUBARU AND IT MAKES AN ABNORMAL NOISE. I HAVE HAD IT IN TO BE REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOT FIX TO THE PROBLEM. PURCHASED 8/19/09 FROM SHORTLINE SUBARU. I HAVE DISCUSSED WITH SUBARU OF AMERICA AND THEY HAVE NO DATE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THERE MY CERTIFIED LETTER TO THEM. THEY TOLD ME THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND THERE IS NO NOTIFICATION TO THE PUBLIC OF THIS AND I THINK THE PUBLIC DESERVES TO KNOW THEY ARE SELLING A DEFECTIVE CAR. *TR
