THE CAR STALLS AND PERFORMS A FULL ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE BRAKING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP.
FAILED HEAD GASKET. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AT AROUND 112K. THIS IS A 2.5 LITRE 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. ENGINE STARTED TO OVERHEAT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR.
I AM EXPERIENCING HESITATION WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. I HAVE THREADS WITH SUBARU DRIVERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AND ALL HAVE NO LUCK RESOLVING THE ISSUE AT DEALERSHIPS.
CAR ENGINE STOPS UNEXPECTEDLY FOR NO REASON WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE STEERING TO LOCK UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN THE LAST FIVE DAYS. ONE TIME NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
CRUISE CONTROL, BRAKE, CHECK ENGINE AND VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL LIGHTS ALL COME ON WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE.
VEHICLE DIES UPON SOMEWHAT SUDDEN STOPS SUCH AS TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGING TO RED AND NEEDING TO STOP OR SOMEONE PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF US ETC. THIS IS A SEVERE TRAFFIC SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IF LARGE VEHICLE OR 18 WHEELER ETC IS FOLLOWING CLOSE ON HIGHWAY AND SUBARU DIES UPON BRAKING AND UNABLE TO KEEP MOVING AFTER BRAKES APPLIED. WE HAVE E-MAILED SUBARU HEADQUARTERS AND THEY REPLIED AS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. WE HAVE HAD A 50 YEAR PROFESSIONAL MASTER MECHANIC BUSINESS STATE THAT IS THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS FAULTY AND NOT ALLOWING THE CVT SYSTEM TO WORK AS SHOULD WHEN BRAKING AND VEHICLE WILL DIE. THERE IS PAST TSB ON THIS ISSUE BUT NO RECALL. DO NUMEROUS SUBARU OWNERS NEED TO NEEDLESSLY DIE IF NOT ALREADY BEFORE SOMEONE TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SERIOUS VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE? THIS DEFECT HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS.
THIS 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS ONLY 69000 MILES ON IT AND IT HAS SEVERAL RUSTED ROT SPOTS ON THE SUB FRAME, THE AXLES AND OTHER FRONT END COMPONENTS ALSO HAVE LAYERS OF RUST SUGGESTING THE STABILITY OF THOSE PARTS IS ALSO COMPROMISED. IT IS DISAPPOINTING THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE WITH SO FEW MILES ON THE ODOMETER.
REAR BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND ONE OFF THE PIPES HAS BUSTED I NOW HAVE NO BRAKES. HAPPENED ON MONDAY 7/6/2020.
I BEGAN HEARING UNUSUAL SOUNDS WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN JUNE. IT WASN'T CONSISTENT. IT WOULD HAPPEN SOMETIMES WHEN I WOULD BRAKE, EXCEL, TURN, MOSTLY IN CITY TRAFFIC. I COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT. IT CONTINUED TO BECOME MORE FREQUENT AND LOUDER. ON JULY 2ND, IT BECAME VERY BAD, ESPECIALLY WHEN I BACKED INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE. I WAS UNABLE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP, WHICH I WAS TOLD WOULD BE 7-10 DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD EVEN LOOK AT IT, SO I TOOK IT ELSEWHERE. IT TURNED OUT TO BE MY SUB FRAME. I WAS TOLD THE CONDITION WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE MECHANIC WAS FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM, HAVING JUST RECENTLY REPLACED THE SUB FRAME IN A 2011 SUBARU LEGACY. HE MENTIONED THE METAL THEY USE IS OF POOR QUALITY AND THEIR WELDS ARE NOT DONE WELL. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 102,000 MILES ON IT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED AT HEUBERGER SUBARU (1080 MOTOR CITY DR, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905, (719) 475-1920) UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V326000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.*DT CONSUMER STATED HE THINKS PROBLEM IS IGNITION RELATED AND IGNITION SHUTS OFF TOO MANY TIMES.*JB
WHILE DRIVING THE FOLLOWING WARNING LIGHTS HAVE COME ON: BRAKE, VEHICLE DYNAMICS CONTROL, AND AT OIL TEMP. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW AND LIGHTS GO AWAY ONCE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN.
ACTUATOR THAT ADJUSTS THE AIR FLOW BROKEN AND DOESN'T NOW ALLOW THE AIRFLOW TO BE DIRECTED TO THE WINDSHIELD. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD AS THE WINDOWS FOG UP AS THE CAR WARMS AND YOU CANNOT SEE OUT OF THE WINDOW.
A CRACK APPEARED AT THE CENTER BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY INCREASED IN SIZE TO OVER 20" HORIZONTALLY. THERE WAS NO APPARENT ROCK OR DEBRIS THAT HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND THERE IS NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF AN OBJECT PITTING/MARKING THE WINDSHIELD TO CAUSE THE CRACK.
I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE GARAGE, AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. NOTHING TOUCHED THE CAR, IT JUST CRACKED ON ITS OWN. THE CRACK IS IN AN ARCH SHAPE FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE CORNER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE CORNER (ABOUT 12 INCHES HEIGH AT THE TOP. THERE IS ALSO A VERTICAL CRACK DOWN THE CENTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CALLED WHITE RIVER SUBARU (429 SYKES MOUNTAIN AVE, WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT 05001, (802) 526-9810). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-50024654201. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V311000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
AS OTHERS HAVE REPORTED - WHEN DEACCELERATING RAPIDLY VEHICLE SHAKES AND COMPLETELY STALLS. TOOK TO SPECIALTY SHOP AND REPORTED FAILED TORQUE CONVERTER. REPAIRS TOTALED $2200. CAR ONLY WITH 80,000 MILES.
VEHICLE HAS 116,567 MILES DEVELOPED A SQUEAKING NOISE AT 40 / 60 MPH. AFTER BRINGING IN TO DEALER WAS ADVISED THE CVT CHAIN WAS SLIPPING AND ONLY THING THAT COULD BE DONE IS PURCHASE A NEW TRANSMISSION OR VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WAS AT A COST OF 7900 DOLLARS AND NO OTHER OPTION WAS PROVIDED TO IMPROVE SAFETY IN THE VEHICLE. I MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO HAVE SOA PROVIDE DETAILS ON WHAT MAINTENANCE COULD BE DONE TO TO PROTECT/EXTEND THE LIFE CYCLE OF THE FAILING TRANSMISSION OR IF THE TRANSMISSION COULD BE REBUILT TO IMPROVE SAFE OPERATION. SOA RESPONSE CONTINUES TO BE THEY WILL DISCUSS A LOYALTY PROGRAM FOR A NEW LEASE OR CAR BUT THE ONLY OPTION IS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION ENTIRELY.
THE FRONT SUBFRAME RUSTED THROUGH, CAUSING LOUD SCRAPING NOISES WHEN TURNING. THIS CAR HAS ABOUT 92000 MILES ON IT AND IS LESS THAN TEN YEARS OLD. REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE AS THIS PART SUPPORTS THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. REPAIR SHOP ALSO SAID THEY HAVE SEEN THIS FAILURE ON OTHER VEHICLES, SPECIFICALLY SUBARU AND MAZDA.
UPON STARTING CAR THE CENTER CONSOLE DIDN'T TURN ON - THIS INCLUDED RADIO/CD PLAYER, AC, HEATER, MPG, CLOCK, AND CHARGING STATION/USB, STEERING WHEEL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY ELECTRICAL SHORT
WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE, CRUISE CONTROL, ABS, AND VEHICLE DYNAMICS CONTROL LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. I LATER LEARNED THAT A BAD O2 SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE. IT WAS RAINING AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES MODERATELY FIRMLY DUE TO ANOTHER CAR STOPPING HARD IN FRONT OF ME, MY CAR'S BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I SLID ON THE WET PAVEMENT. FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. AFTER REPLACING THE 02 SENSOR, THE LIGHTS WENT OFF. WEEKS LATER THE SAME LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN DUE TO WHAT TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD GAS CAP. WHEN IT WAS REPLACED, THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. NOW THE OTHER 02 SENSOR IS INTERMITTENTLY GOING OUT, AND IT TRIGGERS THE SAME LIGHTS. HOWEVER I HAVE BEEN VERY SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT WHEN THESE LIGHTS ARE ON, THOSE SYSTEMS ARE DISABLED. IT IS ASTOUNDING THAT SAFETY IS INTENTIONALLY REMOVED FROM A CAR DUE TO A LOOSE GAS CAP OR BAD 02 SENSOR.
MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE - VEHICLE HAS STARTED STALLING WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR STARTING TO TURN. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS TURNING OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY. SUBARU ISSUED A RECALL, BUT MY CAR IS NOT COVERED DUE TO MILEAGE, WHICH IS PROBLEMATIC.
CVT FAILED AT 149,250 MILEAGE. EVEN THOUGH SUBARU EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100,000 OR 10 YEARS THIS VEHICLE WAS BEYOND 100,000 ON THE ODOMETER AND DIDN'T EXHIBIT ISSUES WHEN THE EXTENSION WAS ISSUED. I EXPECT SUBARU TO WARRANTY FURTHER AS THEIR CVT CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLES OUTSIDE OF THEIR ORIGINAL AND EXTENDED WARRANTY. COST OF REPAIR IS $7,335 PLUS COST OF RENTAL CAR.
MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE - VEHICLE HAS STARTED STALLING WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING DOWN WHILE STARTING TO TURN. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS FOR MY WIFE TURNING OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TOLD BY A SUBARU MECHANIC THAT SUBARU ISSUED A RECALL, BUT I CAN'T FIND IT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW.
MY COOLING SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY, WE HAVE CHANGED THE RADIATOR TWICE AND THE THERMOSTAT TWICE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SUBARU OF CHERRY HILL AND ALSO TO SUBARU OF JAX WHERE MY FATHER IN LAW IS A SENIOR MASTER TECH. MY CAR HAS EVERYONE BAFFLED. EVERYTHING IN MY COOLING SYSTEM BACKS UP INTO MY OVERFLOW AND THAN I LOSE ALL MY COOLANT. I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2010 FOR MY YEAR OUTBACK MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 31 TO DEC 2009 AND MY CAR FALLS IN THOSE DATE RANGES BUT WAS NEVER INCLUDING IN THIS COOLING SYSTEM RECALL. I HAVE CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. THE ISSUE ONLY HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING ON BOTH CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. BC OF THE ISSUE MY CAR HAS JUST SHUT DOWN ON ME LUCKILY IT WAS WHEN I WAS PULLING INTO PARKING LOTS AND NOT HIGHWAYS.
THE CVT TRANSMISSION IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THE CAR STALLS JUST PRIOR TO COMING TO A STOP. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM BY SUBARU TO THE POINT THAT THEY ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND ANY SUBARU DEALER WHO WILL PROPERLY DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM TO ALLOW FOR WARRANTY COVERAGE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL GIVEN THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES REPORTING THIS PROBLEM AND THE UNSAFE CONDITION THAT IS CREATED.
MY 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK K-FRAME AND A-FRAME ROTTED OUT, AFFECTING MY STEERING, MY BREAKING AND MY ABILITY TO CONTROL MY STEERING. THIS CAUSED A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. I NOTIFIED SUBARU AND THEY INFORMED ME THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE K-FRAME OF THIS YEAR'S VEHICLE, ALTHOUGH THERE HAD BEEN FOR THE REAR SUB-FRAME ON THIS VEHICLE. ALSO, SUBARU WANTED $1400 TO REPAIR THE SUB-FRAME, SO I WENT TO A SALVAGE YARD AND DISCOVERED THAT ALL BUT TWO OF THE SUB-FRAMES IN THE SALVAGE YARD WERE ALL ROTTED IN THE SAME AREAS. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE SUB-FRAME SHOULD BE REPORTED AS A SAFETY ISSUE; AS IF THE SUB-FRAME FAILS AT THE A-FRAME, YOU WILL LOSE STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITY. MY FATHER WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY OTHER OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND IT WAS UNDERCOATED BY THE MANUFACTURER WHEN IT WAS BOUGHT--YET IT STILL ROTTED OUT.
I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS THREE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST THREE MONTHS. IT'S IS NOT THE LIGHTS THEMSELVES BUT THE VEHICLE. THIS IS COSTLY AS SO MUCH HAS TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE LIGHTS. THIS IS GOING TO BE MY THIRD TIME REPLACING MY LIGHTS SINCE JANUARY.
WHEN COMING TO A STOP ON ANY ROAD THE VEHICLE STALLS, UPHILL OR DOWNHILL. THE CAR THEN NEEDS TO BE RESTARTED AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK THEN TURNING THE KEY TO RESTART, AS VEHICLES ARE COMING QUICKLY FROM BEHIND. THIS COULD BE A POTENTIALLY DEADLY VEHICLE FAILURE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND RECALLED. IT STARTED ABOUT A WEEK AGO AND CONTINUES TO HAPPEN.
MY VEHICLE HEAD LIGHTS HAVE BURNT OUT AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR. THE ENGINE HAS BEGAN STALLING WHEN I COME TO A FULL STOP. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH A CVT AND IT FEELS LIKE COMING TO A STOP IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH. IF I LET OFF THE BRAKE QUICKLY IT WILL CONTINUE IDLING BUT COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP KILLS THE ENGINE. I GUESS SUBARU HAS ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT I NEVER RECIEVED THE NOTIFICATION AND MY VEHICLE IS PAST THE MILEAGE FOR THE WARRANTY ANYWAY.
MY 2010 SUBARU IS STALLING OUT WHEN I COME TO STOPS AND IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND SCARY. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK, EVEN WHEN COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN. IT HAPPENS AS THE CAR BEGINS TO SLOW DOWN, THEN IT COMPLETELY STALLS OUT. THIS MUST BE ADDRESSED AND SUBARU NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL, AS THIS IS A SERIOUS AND LIFE THREATENING SAFETY CONCERN. I AM BEYOND UPSET WITH SUBARU FOR NOT ISSUING A RECALL YET, AS I AM READING ABOUT THIS WIDESPREAD ISSUE ONLINE. LOTS OF COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED BY OWNERS.
I HAVE OWNED BY 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK ONLY 9 YEARS AND I LEARNED THAT THE CVT (TRANSMISSION) HAS FAILED. SEARCHING ARTICLES AND FORUMS THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE MODELS/YEARS. MY VEHICLE IS NOW USELESS UNTIL I PAY OVER $7000 TO REPLACE THE WHOLE UNIT. GIVEN THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE WAS NOT A RECALL. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT SUBARU OFFERS IS NOT USEFUL GIVEN THE AGE OF MOST OF THESE VEHICLES.
SUBARU WEBSITE STATES NO ACTIVE RECALL. HOWEVER, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND HASSETT SUBARU ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT AIRBAG AND INFORMS ME THAT THE AIRBAG HAS BEEN DELIVERED. HASSETT SUBARU STATES THAT INSTALLING THE AIRBAG TAKES AN ENTIRE DAY, AND HASSETT SUBARU ONLY HAS ONE MECHANIC WHO IS TRAINED TO INSTALL THE NEW AIRBAG. HASSETT SUBARU HAS NOT YET INSTALL THE REPLACEMENT AIRBAG. I ORDERED IT ON FEBRUARY 9TH, AND HASSETT SUBARU WILL NOT PROVIDE ME AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL MARCH 19. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
EXTREME SHIMMY / VIBRATION IN FRONT END CAUSE STEERING WHEEL TO SHIMMY AGGRESSIVELY. THIS EXPERIENCE STARTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO, THE CAR HAS APRPOXIMATELY 150K MILES. WHEN DRIVING CAR OVER 40 MILES AN HOUR THE ENTIRE FRONT END SHAKES LIKE A VERY OUT OF BALANCE TIRE OR THE FEELING OF A WARPED ROTOR WHEN BRAKING. THE SHIMMY CAN BE SEEN IN THE STEERING WHEEL BOUNCING, AND FELT THROUGH THE FLOOR AND SEATS.TIRES AND BRAKES HAVE BEEN INSPECTED AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM. UPON SEARCHING THE INTERNET I SEE THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM. WHY IS THIS NO A RECALL? I AM FEARFUL OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO HESITATE AND MADE A CLUNKING SOUND. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED TWICE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH FORCE TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM STALLING. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO GANLEY SUBARU OF BEDFORD (123 BROADWAY AVE, BEDFORD, OH 44146) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,000.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2010 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that he received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V007000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool showed no recall associated with the VIN. Consumer would like to cancel the investigation.
I WENT TO TIMMONS SUBARU IN LONG BEACH CA.I TOLD THEM ABOUT THE TSB-16-90-13R AND THAT MY VEHICLE IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT THAT BULLETIN IS SHOWING. I WAS INFORMED OVER AND OVER MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I KNEW THAT A WANTED THEM TO DO THE TSB. THEY REFUSED BECAUSE THEIR MECHANIC SAID IT NEEDED A NEW CVT TRANSMISSION AND THEY COULD NOT DO THAT WORK. THE OUTBACK WAS SHAKING AND VIBRATING AND HAVE LOW RPMS LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. I DID NOT TRUST TIMMONS MECHANIC SO I TOOK TO MCKENNA SUBARU IN HUNTINGTON BEACH . THEY DID THE TSB AND NOW IT WORKS GREAT. IT DID NOT NEED A NEW CVT TRANSMISSION AND TIMMONS MECHANIC LIED TO ME AND WANTED TO UPSELL A NEW CVT TRANSMISSION AND WHEEL BEARING IN HIS REPORT. THEY REFUSED TO LISTEN TO ME REGARDING THE TSB.
DURING BRAKING, THE CAR OFTEN SHUTTERS AS IF IT IS GOING TO STALL, AND SEVERAL TIMES HAS STALLED COMPLETELY WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS OCCURS ESPECIALLY IF BRAKING HARD. THIS OCCURS ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND BEING BROUGHT TO A STOP. HOWEVER, WHEN IDLING, THE CAR OFTEN WILL SHUDDER AS WELL.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-38208244231. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
VEHICLE HAS BEGUN TO RANDOMLY STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP ON CITY STREETS. HAS RESULTED IN ONE NEAR MISS OF BEING REAR ENDED. IN ADDITION, HAS BEGUN TO STALL ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH. CAR WILL MAKE WINING SOUND AND LOSE POWER FOR A FEW SECONDS, BUT HAS NOT COMPLETE STALLED OUT.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE CLOSED DURING REPAIR OF VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO REPROGRAMMING OR ANY ATTEMPT TO REPAIR. CAR WAS STATIONARY, BUT UNABLE TO RELEASE BRAKE RESULTED IN NECESSARY REPLACEMENT OF FAULTY COMPONENT. SUBARU UNWILLING TO REIMBURSE FOR PART.
WHEN BRAKING TO A SUDDEN STOP, THE CAR SHUDDERS AND STALLS. IT IS SIMILAR TO THE FEELING OF BRAKING WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH IN A MANUAL CAR, HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE HAS AN AUTOMATIC CVT TRANSMISSION. THIS HAPPENED IN AN INTERSECTION, AND THERE WERE CARS BEHIND ME HONKING AS I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. AFTER SOME BASIC RESEARCH, THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO MANY VEHICLES LIKE THIS, THAT HAVE THE NEW CVT STYLE TRANSMISSION. SUBARU DID OFFER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE OF SO MANY COMPLAINTS, BUT THIS GOES BEYOND THAT. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED, IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.

THE CONTACT DECLINED TO PAY FOR THE $1800.00 FEE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-373-484-69104 HOWEVER NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V626000 (PARKING BRAKE) WAS NOT RECEIVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP THE VEHICLE SHUTTERS AND STALLS. SIMILAR TO DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND NOT DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH, BUT MINE IS AN AUTOMATIC. THE RPM DROPS LOWER THAN 500. IT IS ALWAYS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND TRYING TO COME TO A STOP. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED I ALMOST RAN INTO A SCHOOL BUS. THIS MADE ME REALIZE THAT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST TEN TIMES IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS.
FROM 2010 - 2014, SUBARU REMOVED ENGINE TEMP. GUAGE FROM DASH SO THERE IS NO WAY TO MONITOR HIGH NORMAL TEMPS OF ENGINE. AT ONLY 93,770 MILES, MY 2010 OUTBACK 2.5L DASH COOLANT LIGHT FLICKERED ON A SLIGHT DOWNHILL. I HAD NEVER HAD AN ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION ISSUE WITH THIS CAR IN OVER 8 YEARS! TURNS OUT COOLANT WAS LOW DUE TO IT OVERHEATING AND BOILING OUT. TURNS OUT IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF A HEAD GASKET FAILURE! I COULD HAVE ENDED UP STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF A HILLY ROAD, WITH A BLOWN ENGINE! SUBARU HAS NOT FIXED THEIR CHRONIC HG FAILURE ISSUE!!! TO VERIFY/REPLICATE THE OVERHEATING, I TURNED ON THE A/C AND TOOK A 20 MILE OUT AND BACK ON A HILLY PORTION OF THE 5 FWY IN NORTHERN CA AT THEBEND OF SUMMER, 2018.

WHILE I WAS ON MY WAY HOME, THE CAR STARTED BUCKING AND ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER ON & OF ON THE DASH. I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THANK GOODNESS I WAS CLOSE TO MY SUBARU DEALERSHIP WHERE I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR. I WAS EXTREMELY SCARED! SHAKING! THEY TOOK THE CAR RIGHT AWAY & TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION - MY SON RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUES. APPARENTLY MY DEALER WAS AWARE ALSO SINCE THEY KNEW RIGHT AWAY WHAT WAS WRONG. COST OF REPAIR $1,70.86 + TAX! WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2ND OUTBACK B'CAUSE WE LOVE THE SUBARU BRAND & OUR DEALER. WHAT HAPPENED TO ME IS A SHAMEFUL NEGLECT ON SUBARU'S PART SINCE THERE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INCIDENTS THE SAME AS MINE. I THANK GOD THAT I DIDN'T BREAK DOWN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY OR BRIDGE THAT WAS ON MY WAY HOME. BUT MOSTLY, I AM GRATEFUL THAT MY 19 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WASN'T DRIVING THE CAR WHEN THIS PROBLEM AROSE! SHAME ON SUBARU FOR NOT DOING A RECALL ON THIS! VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE BRAND. MY DEALER WAS EXCEPTIONAL AND FIXED THE CAR IN 1 DAY! REPLACED TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY.
SLOWING DOWN TO UNDER 10MPH THE CAR WILL DROP TO AROUND 500RPM AND WILL SHUDDER AS THOUGH IT IS GOING TO STALL. ON A FEW OCCASIONS IT HAS ACTUALLY STALLED. I AM AWARE THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO FIX THE TORQUE CONVERTER SINCE SUBARU HAS CHANGED THEM, BUT I DID NOT HAVE A WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE AND EVEN IF I DID IT IS STILL OVER 100,000 MILES.
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH ON A COUNTRY ROAD, ATTEMPTED TO STOP, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO USE MY PADDLE SHIFTERS TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN TO A SAFER SPEED. AFTER THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT HAD COME ON. LUCKILY I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE CAR BACK HOME WHERE THE CAR HAS SAT UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THERE IS AN OUTSTANDING RECALL (SUBARU #214790, NHTSA# 14V311000) FOR 05-09 OUTBACK MODELS. ALTHOUGH MY VIN SAYS IT'S A 2010, IT TAKES 2009 BRAKE PADS (2010 PADS WEREN'T EVEN CLOSE) SO I SUSPECT IT'S AN EARLY 2010 MODEL WITH SOME 2009 PARTS- SPECIFICALLY THE BRAKING SYSTEM. OUR HOUSEHOLD HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED ON 5 DIFFERENT SUBARUS (92 OUTBACK, 95 OUTBACK, 98 OUTBACK, 02 OUTBACK, 09 LEGACY) SO WE ARE WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS FAILED IN EXACTLY THE SAME SPOT PHOTOS ATTACHED OF THE BLOWN BRAKE LINES. I CONTACTED MY DEALER THE DAY IT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THERE ARE NO OPEN RECALLS FOR THIS FOR MY MODEL YEAR- EVEN AFTER I EXPLAINED THE DIFFERENT SIZE BRAKE PADS. THEY SUGGESTED I CONTACT SUBARU AMERICA- WHICH I DID ON SEPT 4. THEY SAID THE SAME THING AS THE DEALER, SUGGESTED I CALL SUBARU CORPORATE (THEY WERE CLOSED) BUT CAUTIONED ME THAT THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO HELP. I THINK THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO INCLUDE AT LEAST THE 2010 MODEL. I'M TRYING THE NHTSA BECAUSE IT'S A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM THAT OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING. THE NEXT PERSON THIS HAPPENS TO MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO HELP? I'M LOOKING FOR THIS TO BE FIXED ON MY CAR AND THE RECALL TO BE EXTENDED TO OTHER CARS WITH THIS DESIGN FLAW.
