IN TWO SEPARATE EVENTS THE CAR LOST POWER WHILE ACCELLORATING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STAND STILL. THE GAS PEDAL BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND THE TRANMISSION STOPPED SHIFTING. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT THE ENGINE STALLED, AND IN THE SECOND IT SPUTTERED AND ALMOST DIED DURING A HEAVY MERGE ON AN ON RAMP. NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE THROWN, SO THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT THE CAR WAS LEAVING THE TOLL PLAZE ON THE DULLES GREENWAY HEAD TOWARD LEESBURG, VA. UNDER FULL ACELLERATION LEAVING THE TOLL PLAZA AND EFFECTIVELY DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE CAR STARTED SHUFTING ERRATICALLY, AND EVENTUALLY LOST POWER AND STALLED. IN THE SECOND INCIDENT, ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER, THE CAR WAS ON A DECLINE ON-RAMP MERGING INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC ON RT-270N HEADING TOWARD FREDERICK, MD. THE CAR AGAIN STARTED TO SHIFT ERRATICALLY, THEN BEGAN TO STALL, BUT I WAS ABKE TO USE THE PADDLE SHIFTERS TO SHIFT THE 'GEAR' OF THE CVT AND PREVENT STALLING. AFGER ABOUT 30 SECONDS THE CAR WAS OPERATING AS NORMAL. AGAIN, THE DEALER HAS NOT FOUND ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODES, AND INDICATES THERE IS NITHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE.
WHEN PULLING INTO A HEAD NO PRKING SPACE, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE CAR SPED FORWARD SEVERAL FEET, HITTING A ROCK IN THE LAWN. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH CAR SPEEDING UNTIL I COULD HIT THE BRAKE.
ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD CRACKED BY ROCK (I THINK) HIT AT TOP NEAR EDGE AND CRACK INSTANTLY RAN DOWN AND ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. TOOK TO DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT, TOOK ALL DAY BECAUSE THE FIRST WINDSHIELD THEY INSTALLED BROKE, SO THEY HAD TO PUT IN A SECOND. A WEEK LATER HEARD A LOUD POP, LIKE A ROCK HAD HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND WINDOW CRACKED FROM JUST ABOVE THE WIPER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE UP AND TO THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IF IT WAS A ROCK IT COULDN'T HAVE CAME DIRECTLY IN BUT WOULD HAVE HAD BEEN LOBBED AS A STRAIGHT IN SHOT WOULD HAVE CLIPPED THE WIPER AND THE WIPER HAS NO DAMAGE. THERE IS A VERY SMALL DING IN THE WINDSHIELD, CERTAINLY NOT SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO CAUSE A CRACK THAT WOULD INSTANTLY RUN ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. DEALER WILL NOT WARRANTY A 1000 WINDSHIELD THAT I HAD FOR A WEEK. I DON'T THINK THE INTEGRITY OF THE WINDSHIELD IS SOUND IF A SMALL ROCK DINGS THE WINDSHIELD AND CAUSES IT TO CRACK. IF SOMETHING OF SIZE WERE TO HIT IT I THINK IT WOULD LIKEY BREAK THROUGH AND COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE SOMEONE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, THE GLASS IS DEFECTIVE. WINDSHIELDS ARE BUILT TO WITHSTAND SERIOUS IMPACT WITHOUT CRACKING. SOME NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS. I'VE SEEN MANY PEOPLE REPORTING THIS ONLINE AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. SUBARU NEEDS TO RECALL ALL THE VEHICLES AND REPLACE WITH SAFE GLASS AND THEY NEED TO REIMBURSE ALL THOSE LIKE ME THAT HAVE INCURRED RIDICULOUS EXPENSE BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT.
WINDSHIELD HAS BROKEN FOR THE 2ND TIME SINCE PURCHASE. BOTH TIMES SUBARU GLASS.
CRACK IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AT THE TOP, PASSENGER SIDE CORNER. CRACK FOR NO REASON. *TR
WE PUT CAR IN GARAGE. IT WAS CLEAN PERFECT CONDITION. THE GARAGE IS LOCKED AND I FOUND A SPIDER SCRATCH WHICH HAD NO VISIBLE HOLE FROM A PEBBLE. THE SPIDER CRACK WAS INTERNAL SO I COULD FEEL NO INDENTATION. I HAVE WITNESSES IN THE VEHICLE. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT IT WAS INHERENT IN THE WINDOW. TO AVOID POSSIBLE DANGER I BROUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP. I STILL PAID $100 FOR REPAIR AND I BOUGHT IT NEW. ALSO I HAD SCRATCH PROTECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A VERY SLOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A POLE AND A SECOND VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000.
CAR DOES NOT START BAD BATTERY
CRACK IN WINDSHIELD ON DRIVERS SIDE, UNDER THE WIPER BADE AREA. APPEARS TO ORIGINATE IN THE 'FRIT' AREA OF THE WINDSHIELD. OCCURRED AROUND APRIL, 2019.
FUEL GAUGE IS INACCURATE AND DOES NOT SHOW NEAR EMPTY WHEN NO USABLE FUEL IS LEFT IN THE TANK. WE WERE DRIVING TO AN EVENT WITH SLIGHTLY LESS THAN 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS REMAINING WHEN THE VEHICLE RAN OUT OF FUEL. COMPLETE ENGINE STALL (NO SPUTTERING/ETC. BEFORE) AT 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, REQUIRING AN EMERGENCY STOP ACROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC. THIS IS CLEARLY A DANGEROUS PROBLEM, AND IT SEEMS SEVERAL OTHER 2017 OUTBACK OWNERS HAVE REPORTED SIMILAR ISSUES. IT APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR TO THE 2018 FUEL GAUGE RECALL (WTW-82) BUT FOR 2017 VEHICLES. UNFORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T THINK TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE FUEL GAUGE, BUT WAS ACTUALLY PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION AS I HAD RECEIVED THE NOTIFICATION FOR SUBARU'S WUD-89 "DISTANCE-TO-EMPTY SOFTWARE UPDATE," SO I KNEW THE DISTANCE-TO-EMPTY INDICATOR WAS WRONG, BUT GIVEN THE NOTICE SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE FUEL GAUGE ITSELF AND ONLY MENTIONED THE DTE SOFTWARE WAS INCORRECT, I MADE THE NATURAL ASSUMPTION THAT THE GAUGE ITSELF WAS STILL AT LEAST REMOTELY ACCURATE.
I HIT A LARGE DEER ON IH 10 AT 75 MPH. ALL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED SAFELY BUT CONPLETELY BLOCKED MY VISION AND PREVENTED ME FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE AS THE BAGS BLOCKED DOOR HANDLES, WINDOW CONTROL SWITCHES AND MY SEAT BELT RELEASE. ANOTHER MOTORIST CUT AIR BAG STRIPS AND HELPED ME TO EXIT THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, NO FIRE.
THE WINDSHIELD ON THE CAR CRACKED. I DON'T THINK IT WAS HIT BY ANYTHING. IF IT WAS, IT MUST'VE BEEN A VERY SMALL OBJECT. I NOTICED IT WHEN I WENT OUT TO THE CAR ONE MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK. I HAD SOMEONE COME OUT AND REPAIR IT AS BEST THEY COULD, SO THERE IS A MARK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CRACK WHERE THEY DRILLED TO STOP IT FROM GETTING WORSE.
INTERMITTENTLY NOT ABLE TO REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY FROM THE IGNITION.
BATTERY FAILURE- TOTAL DISCHARGE- 2 TIMES
ONCE THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN PARK, THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND CAN'T BE REMOVED. THE ONLY WAY TO REMOVE THE KEY IS TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND BACK IN TO PARK (WITH MORE FORCE). THIS HAPPENS ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME WHEN TRYING TO REMOVE THE KEY. MY WARRANTY IS FOR 36K MILES OR 3 YEARS. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 38K MILES.
NAVIGATION SCREEN CAN NOT SEE IN DAY TIME AND IGNITION KEY WILL NOT REMOVE SOMETIME WHEN PARK.
ON MARCH 24, 2019, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 5 IN SOUTHERN OREGON, TRAVELING FROM OUR WINTER HOME IN NEVADA TO OUR SUMMER HOME IN ALASKA. SUDDENLY, WE HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION ON THE ROOF OF OUR CAR. THE SUNROOF GLASS HAD SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED AND SHATTERED!! THERE WERE NO ROCKS OR DEBRIS ON THE ROAD. SINCE WE WERE TRAVELING, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SUNROOF REPAIRED AT WALKERS RENTON SUBARU IN RENTON, WASHINGTON. EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER THE FULL BUMPER TO BUMPER 36,000 MILE WARRANTY (IT HAD 27,000 MILES ON IT), I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY THE $500 REPAIR BILL. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THE BREAKAGE HAD TO HAVE BEEN DUE TO A ROCK, AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I AM CONVINCED THAT THERE WAS NO ROCK OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT CAUSED THE SHATTERING OF THE SUNROOF GLASS. THERE ARE SCATTERED REPORTS OF SUNROOFS SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODING, AND I AM CONVINCED THAT THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME.
WINDSHIELD CRACK IN LOWER GLASS PORTION (ABOUT A FOOT LONG); ORIGINATED WITHOUT ANY ROCK STRIKE. NOTICED IT WHILE DRIVING ONE DAY LAST WEEK, ON A LONE STRETCH OF HIGHWAY IN NEVADA. HAVE SEEN ONLINE TONIGHT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL SUBARU MODELS AND YEARS. I SHOULD NOT NOR SHOULD MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAY FOR A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THESE MODELS HAVE.
FRONT RIGHT POWER WINDOW. POWER WINDOW ON PASSENGER SIDE GOES DOWN, WHEN PULL TO CLOSE, GOES UP THEN OPENS/COMES DOWN AGAIN. WON'T STAY UP.
MULTIPLE EPISODES OF BATTERY DRAINING FOR NO APPARENT REASON.
WHILE PARKED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED ABOUT 4 INCHES ABOVE THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW FROM FROM THE CENTER OF THE STEERINGWHEEL, TWO FEET TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SEAT.
Vehicle battery drains intermittently for no reason. Subaru claims nothing is wrong but replaced the battery. The problem has not changed.
I HAD THE ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD IN MY 2017 OUTBACK CRACK WHILE DRIVING ON I-65 BACK IN MARCH OF 2018, WHICH I PRESUMED WAS DUE TO A STONE CHIP EVEN THOUGH THE CHIP DAMAGE I OBSERVED WAS EXTREMELY MINOR. NOT KNOWING ABOUT THE ONGOING WINDSHIELD CRACKING ISSUES THAT SUBARU WAS UNDERGOING WITH THEIR 2015-2016 MODELS, I HAD THE CRACKED WINDSHIELD REPLACED AT MY DEALER WITH OEM PARTS ORDERED THROUGH MY DEALER'S PARTS DEPT. WHICH ENDED UP COSTING ME $500 OUT OF POCKET ON A $788 INSURANCE CLAIM. NOW I HAVE THE SAME KIND OF CRACK APPEARING IN THE REPLACEMENT WINDOW WITH NO APPARENT STONE CHIP OR OTHER CAUSE. I FIRST NOTICED THE CRACK ORIGINATE FROM THE AREA OF THE VIN WINDOW IN THE BOTTOM DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE WINDOW. THIS HAPPENED SOON AFTER I BEGAN DRIVING ON A QUITE COLD DAY WITH THE WINDSHIELD DEFOGGER ENGAGED. SINCE IT HAPPENED LESS THAN 1 YEAR AFTER THE FIRST, I ASKED THE SERVICE REP AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IF THE REPLACEMENT WINDOW WAS COVERED BY ANY MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY AND HE SAID NO, NOT FOR CRACKING. AFTER SEARCHING THE WINDSHIELD CRACKING PROBLEM ONLINE, I WAS SHOCKED TO READ OF THE NUMBER OF OTHER SUBARU LEGACY/OUTBACK OWNERS OF SIMILAR MODEL YEARS AND LATER WITH IDENTICAL STORIES AND WITH SUBARU APPARENTLY DUCKING THE ISSUE BY CONTENDING THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WARRANTYING REPLACEMENT WINDOWS. NEEDLESS TO SAY I'M NOT HAPPY TO READ OF THEIR DODGING THIS POTENTIALLY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I GUESS IT WILL TAKE ANOTHER CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TO GET SUBARU TO STEP UP.
MY WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE IN THREE MONTHS ONCE 2-20-19 AND 5-6-2019.
BATTERY DIED AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WOULD NOT CHARGE VEHICLE. CAR WAS TOWED TO SUBARU IN SAVANAH WHERE THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND THE CHARGING SYSTEM FIXED. THIS IS AN APPARENT SYSTEM PROBLEM WITH OUTBACKS
The vehicle has an electrical problem or problems that drain the 12-volt battery leaving us stranded, unable to start the car. The problem or problems also lead to unreasonably short battery lifespans (average lifespan = 19-months). Subaru replaced the original battery under warranty after only 23-months. The Subaru warranty replacement battery (#2) died after only 12-months, and we paid for an emergency replacement through AAA at a cost of $145.88. Today, Subaru informed me that the third battery needs to be replaced after only 21-months at a cost of $198.80. The AAA battery (#3) remains under warranty, but it seems unreasonable for AAA to bear the cost of failures due to a faulty electrical system.
The battery in this vehicle consistently drains to the point it cannot start the car. It happened with the OME battery and all subsequent replacements. I reported it originally to Subaru on the date below but it has continued to happen and I have had to buy a portable charger along with new batteries to work around the issue. Leaving a door open for 15 mins or radio on for 4 mins without the engine running can be enough to cause the car needing a jump start to operate. Leaving an interior light on will also drain the battery but am less sure how long that needs to happen. I had been searching forms for a solution and saw I should report it here. This doesn't happen in my 2007 sedan so can't imagine this should be happening on this 2017 outback. I am also surprised the company has not addressed a fix for the issue, so much for buying another one. Thank you.
I HAD TWO SIGNIFICANT BRAKING PROBLEMS WITHIN TWO DAYS. BOTH DAYS WERE CLEAR AND SUNNY, WITH NO SNOW, ICE OR RAIN. THE FIRST OCCURRED WHEN MY WIFE AND I WERE ON A LOCAL STREET. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. INSTEAD OF STOPPING, THE CAR ACCELERATED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, THE DRIVER COMING TO MY RIGHT WAS ABLE TO STOP BEFORE PLOWING INTO MY CAR. MY WIFE AND I AVOIDED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE WERE COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT BEHIND ANOTHER CAR IN THE TURN LANE. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE - CAREFULLY SO I DIDN'T ACCELERATE - AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. EYESIGHT ASSISTED BRAKING STOPPED THE CAR BEFORE I REAR-ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT. SINCE IT WAS A TURN LANE, THE CAR IN FRONT MOVED UP AND I SLOWLY MOVED FORWARD. ONCE AGAIN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND ASSISTED BRAKING STOPPED THE CAR. I PULLED OVER ONTO A SIDE STREET AND THE BRAKES WORKED, BUT WERE SPONGY. FOR THE REST OF THE WAY HOME, ABOUT 3 MILES, THE BRAKES WORKED OK. AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT MY WIFE AND I DISCUSSED WHAT HAPPENED. WE CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT WE BOTH HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES, TO A LESSER EXTENT, WITH THE CAR ACCELERATING WHEN BRAKING. WE BOTH THOUGHT THAT WE DID SOMETHING WRONG, BUT AFTER THE DRAMATIC ACCELERATION INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC REALIZED THAT IT WAS THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. OVER A FEW DAYS TIME THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM AND REFERRED IT TO SUBARU CUSTOMER CARE. IT'S FOUR WEEKS SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT AND THEY'RE NO CLOSER TO IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START ERROR MESSAGE INDICATED STEERING OVER HEATED THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE CAR WAS PARKED INSIDE GARAGE. CRACK WAS SIGNIFICANT AND APPEARED FOR NO REASON. WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED ON 2/13/19 AND EYESIGHT HAD TO BE RECALIBRATED. IT IS OUR BELIEF THAT THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH THE LAWSUIT RE: 2017-19 OUTBACK WINDSHIELD CRACKS.
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED WHILE DRIVING IN RAINY CONDITIONS WITH THE DEFROSTER ON. I HEARD A LARGE POP. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, I WASN'T BEHIND ANY TRAFFIC. THE CRACKED STARTED AT THE SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. ON MY WAY HOME LATER THAT DAY WITH THE WINDSHIELD THE CRACK GREW AN ADDITIONAL 6 INCHES. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST A FREAK ACCIDENT BUT THEN I SEEN SOMEONE ELSE'S POST ON NEWER MODEL SUBARU WINDSHIELDS AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS MORE INCIDENTS EXACTLY LIKE THIS ONE. I KNOW THERE WAS A LAWSUIT IN 2017 ON THE 2015-2016 MODEL WINDSHIELDS, BUT I READ ENOUGH TO BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM STILL EXISTS IN THE 2017 TO PRESENT MODELS. THIS ISN'T SAFE. TORQUE NEWS THERE IS AN ARTICLE DATED MAY 5, 2018, "SUBARU LOSES LAWSUIT OVER FAULTY OUTBACK WINDSHIELDS" DISCUSSING THE LAWSUIT, THE COMMENTS FROM THE FELLOW SUBARU OWNERS IS CONCERNING.
SPONTANEOUS CRACKS IN WINDSHIELD WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF A CHIP OR EXPERIENCING ANY "HITS" TO THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING - GO OUT TO MY GARAGE PARKED SUBARU OUTBACK (TOURING) AND NOTICE A LINEAR CRACK ACROSS WINDSHIELD ON THREE (3) SEPARATE INCIDENCES WITHIN 369 DAYS - FEB 2018, MAY 2018 & FEB 2019
WE NOTICED A CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD WHEN WE DOING A CAR CLEANING AND REPORTED IT TO OUR CAR INSURANCE COMPANY; OTHERWISE, WE WEREN'T AWARE OF IT HAPPENING, IT STILL EXISTS AND I NEED TO GET THE CAR INSPECTED IN JANUARY, AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL PASS.
AFTER PARKING, I FREQUENTLY CAN'T GET THE KEY OUT OF MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. IT CAN TAKE DOZENS OF RESTARTS, SWITCHING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE TO PARK AND MOVING THE WHEEL TO BE ABLE TO RELEASE THE KEY. ALSO, FREQUENTLY, WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED, I AM ABLE TO INSERT THE KEY BUT CANNOT TURN IT TO START THE CAR. THIS STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT DID NOT BECOME AN OBVIOUS/FREQUENT PROBLEM UNTIL JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY ENDED. I HAVE READ ON LINE THAT THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND THE PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED BUT THEY DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL AND ARE NOW CHARGING ME FOR THE NEW PART. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE (BEING STUCK OUTSIDE IN MASSACHUSETTS IN WINTER WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO LEAVE OR SOMETIMES START MY CAR) THAT THEY SHOULD BE ADDRESSING. THIS HAPPENS MANY TIMES EACH WEEK, AND IS COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE.
THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION AT THE ACCESSORY POSITION AND WILL NOT COME OUT. THE SHIFTER ALSO DOES NOT LOCK MAKING IT EASY FOR THE SHIFTER TO BE KNOCKED OUT OF PARK. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AT MY RESIDENCE ON A SLIGHT GRADE. AS I WAS GETTING OUT OF THE CAR I ACCIDENTLY HIT THE SHIFTER KNOB KNOCKING IT OUT OF PARK INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS ROLLING BACK BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK IN QUICKLY AND STOP THE VEHICLE.
I AM RANDOMLY UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK. IT HAS TAKEN ME UP TO TEN MINUTES TO GET THE KEY OUT. SOMETIMES JUST WIGGLING THE SHIFTER IN THE PARK POSITION IS ENOUGH TO GET THE KEY TO RELEASE. OTHER TIMES I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY START AND STOP THE ENGINE, AND MOVE THE GEARSHIFT LEVER FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND BACK TO PARK TO GET IT TO RELEASE. THE KEY WILL TURN ALL THE WAY TO THE OFF POSITION IN THE IGNITION BUT SOMETHING IS PREVENTING IT FROM BEING PULLED OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. SEARCHING GOOGLE FOR THIS PROBLEM REVEALS THAT MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, AND THE DEALER'S SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SHIFT ASSEMBLY AT YOUR EXPENSE IF YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. THAT IS WHAT THEY TOLD ME, EVEN THOUGH THEY APPARENTLY HAVE A TSB ON THE PROBLEM.
MILES TO EMPTY (MTE) SHOWS 40 MILES TO GO BUT RAN OUT OF GAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WHICH WAS TRAFFIC LIGHT CONTROLLED. I WAS STUCK THERE WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN FOR THE OTHER LANES AND CARS WERE COMING AT ME AND HAD TO DODGE MY VEHICLE.
BATTERY FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES AFTER PLAYING RADIO 15 MINUTES, AFTER TAILGATE LEFT UP FOR 1/2 HOUR. DEALER REPROGRAMMED ECU TO INCREASE CHARGING, WOULD NOT START AND DEALER SAID ALL NORMAL ON 1/12/19@ 18,301 MILES. I REPLACED IT WITH THE LARGER CAPACITY BATTERY AT AUTOZONE. SINCE THEN NO BATTERY PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, I AM STILL AFRAID TO PLAY RADIO OR HAVE TAILGATE UP FOR A LONG PERIOD.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED AND I'M NOT SURE WHY. STARTED SMALL; STRETCHED COMPLETELY ACROSS WITHIN TWO DAYS. DRIVING IT WITH THE CRACK DIDN'T FEEL SAFE. HARD TO SAY IF IT WAS HAPPENING WILE THE CAR WAS MOVING OR WHILE IT WAS PARKED SINCE IT HAPPENED SLOWLY.
REAR DOOR (TRUNK) DOES NOT STOP CLOSING OR DOES NOT OPENING NOR BY BUTTON ON THE FRONT PANEL, NOR BY REMOTE. BATTERY IS GETTING DISCHARGED AFTER I STOP AND CLOSE IT. I HAVE TO KEEP THE JUMP STARTER BATTERY IN THE CAR AND USE IT EVERY WEEK, SOMETIMES - EVERY DAY. BATTERY ITSELF WAS TESTED GOOD SEVERAL TIMES (I'VE STARTED WITH IT). ALL SURFACES AROUND END SWITCHES ARE CLEAN, THERE A RE NO ALARM INDICATION ABOUT OPEN DOOR. AT DEALERSHIP THEY CHARGED ME $80 BUT DID NOT FIND/HELP AT ALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS OFF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, IT WOULD FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD REPLACED THE BATTERY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUES TO OCCUR. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE DRIVEN EVERY DAY IN ORDER FOR IT TO START. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER CERTIFIED INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CAME OVER TO HER RESIDENCE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS ABLE TO START. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 4,000.
DRIVING ON I 29 WITH NO CARS AROUND US. HEARD A POP SOUND AND A CRACK APPEARED IN MY WINDSHIELD. NOTHING HIT IT. IT JUST CRACKED SPONTANEOUSLY.
This has been a constant problem with this car. The battery is dead within 3 days. Has a constant battery drain. Subaru service can’t find it. Big safety problem in cold weather. Car leaves wife stranded. The problem is clearly evident on the web blogs.
WHEN LANE KEEP ASSIST IS ON AT NIGHT (USES EYESIGHT TO KEEP YOU IN YOUR LANE) THE CAR STEERING WHEEL HAS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE RIGHT. THE FIRST TIME THERE HAD BEEN SOME ROAD REPAIRS WITH SOME PARTS OF THE ROAD HAVING NEW ASPHALT AT SOME NOT, AND THE ROAD WAS STILL WET FROM A PREVIOUS RAINSTORM. THE MOST RECENT TIME THE ROAD WAS DRY AND THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR REACHED AND EXIT WHERE THE PAINTED STRIPE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OPENED AT THE ANGLE FOR CARS TO DEPART THE INTERSTATE TO ALLOW FOR THE EXIT. THE FIRST TIME THERE WERE TWO IMMEDIATE JERKS TO THE RIGHT. THE LAST TIME A SINGLE JERK. EACH TIME I HAD TO FORCIBLY JERK BACK THE CAR BACK TO THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE I WAS IN, OR WE WOULD HAVE LEFT THE ROAD AT 65 MPH. I HAVE STOPPED USING LANE KEEP ASSIST - THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE FIRST TIME I ASKED THE SALESMAN AT SUBARU OF CHAMPAIGN ABOUT THIS, AND HE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT. AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE I DECIDED IT WAS A DANGEROUS DEFECT AND HAD TO REPORT IT. THANK YOU.
AFTER USING REMOTE START AND AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. WAS ABLE TO ACTUALLY TURN OFF IGNITION, REMOVE KEY AND STILL DRIVE CAR. HAD TO PULL FUEL PUMP FUSE TO DISABLE THE CAR.
BATTERY DIED MULTIPLE TIMES . LEFT OVERNIGHT, DEAD THE NEXT MORNING.CAR COULD BE JUMPED FROM ANOTHER CAR BUT NOT FROM A LITHIUM ION BATTERY PACK. AFTER MANY AAA CALLS I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER . THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP I JUST SAID I'LL BUY ANOTHER BATTERY. . I'VE HAD 3 BATTERIES IN 4 YEARS.
BATTERY HAS FAILED THREE TIMES WITH NO REASON FOUND. CHARGED THEN DEAD NEXT MORN WITH NOTHING LEFT ON ETC. COLD TEMP WAS NOT A FACTOR. ONCE WAS POSSIBILITY CONNECTED TO THE REAR GATE MOTOR WHICH I COULD HEAR AT ONE POINT,BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING...THE CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE TWICE , AND IN DRIVEWAY OTHER TIMES.BELOW DATE IS THE LATEST, THE FIRST TIME BEING 12/17;MILAGE IS AT 11/1 ENCOUNTER
IGNITION KEY BECOMES LOCKED IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. MANY TIMES WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF THE KEYS BECOME STUCK IN THE STEERING COLUMN. IT IS NECESSARY TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AND SOMETIMES EVEN MOVE THE CAR AND PARK A 2ND OR 3RD TIME BEFORE THE KEYS CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE COLUMN. ITS HELPS TO TURN THE CAR OFF QUICKLY AND THEN REMOVE THE KEYS'EVEN THEN YOU CAN FEEL THE KEYS WANTING TO STICK.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS IN PAST 6 WEEKS, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO TURN KEY TO LOCK SO CAR IS TURNED OFF AND I CANNOT WITHDRAW THE KEY. ONLY BY EXCESSIVE "PLAYING AROUND" WITH GEAR SHIFT ETC. CAN I FINALLY GET KEY OUT. THIS COULD PRESENT SERIOUS PROBLEMS TO ANYONE. MY DEALER NOT PARTICULARLY HELPFUL-SAID IF NOT DOING IT WHEN BRING CAR IN-THEY CAN'T FIX. THE WINDSHIELD IS EXTREMELY FRAGILE AND CRACKS EASILY. I FEEL IT IS A LIGHTER WINDSHIELD, PERHAPS TO HELP WITH GAS MILEAGE. ONE LITTLE ROCK CRACKED IT EASILY. PREVIOUSLY, OWNED VEHICLES OF OLDER VINTAGE AND MODELS NEVER SEEMED TO CRACK AS READILY. ON HIGHWAY TRAVELING 60 SMALL STONE HIT WINDSHIELD.
