TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM HAD KICKED UP A ROCK THAT HIT HIS PASSENGER WINDSHIELD. DUE TO THE ROCK HITTING THE WINDSHIELD, A CRACK FORMED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD. WITHIN 3 DAYS, THE CRACK SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD GLASS WAS POORLY DESIGNED AND THAT THE SIZE OF THE ROCK THAT HIT HIS WINDSHIELD SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED THAT SEVERE OF DAMAGE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE CRACK THAT FORMED OVER THE WINDSHIELD HAD OBSTRUCTED HIS VISION WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO DIRECTED TO A WINDSHIELD SUPPLIER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT HAD TO WAIT ABOUT 4 MONTHS TO HAVE HIS WINDSHIELD REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 342.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY A PEBBLE HIT THE WINDSHIELD MONTHS BEFORE SEPTEMBER. THERE WAS A CHIP BUT NO CRACKS, COME SEPTEMBER THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE SPOT WHERE THE PEBBLE HIT. PICTURES ARE SHOWN BELOW. THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME WAS ONLY 4-5 MONTHS OLD AND IN SEPTEMBER 8 MONTHS OLD WHEN THE CRACKING STARTED. I HAD THE WINDSHIELD CHANGED THROUGH MY INSURANCE AND SATELLITE. THE WINDSHIELD HAS HAD PEBBLES HIT IT WHILE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO CRACKS OR CHIPS.
ON A BRIGHT SUNNY DAY IT IS REALLY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AS GLARE FROM THE CENTER INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY DIRECTLY REFLECTS ON THE EYES, MAKING IT HARD TO SEE THE ROAD. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THE SCREEN SHOULD BE ANTI GLARE. SUBARU REPRESENTATIVE REPLIED THEY COULD NOT HELP IT AND ASKED TO FIND AFTER MARKET ANTI GLARE SCREEN PROTECTORS.
WINDSHIELDS, PARTICULARLY THE EYESIGHT EQUIPPED MODELS, ARE EXTREMELY PRONE TO CRACKING, ARGUABLY DEFECTIVE. 5 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING NEW, I GOT A ROCK CHIP WHILE DRIVING. WHEN GETTING IT REPAIRED IT SPIDERWEBBED, REQUIRING TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF THE WINDSHIELD. 2 WEEKS AFTER REPLACEMENT(AT THE PRICE OF $900), IT GOT ANOTHER ROCK CHIP WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. A YEAR LATER IT GOT ANOTHER ROCK CHIP WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING, AND A CRACK HAS STARTED TO SPREAD DESPITE BEING REPAIRED. DEPENDING ON HOW FAR IT SPREADS, I'LL BE ON THE THIRD WINDSHIELD IN LESS THAN 50K MILES/3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. MY OTHER HIGH MILEAGE CARS(130K AND 225K) ARE BOTH STILL ON ORIGINAL FACTORY GLASS.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM UNKNOWN ORIGIN IN FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. I HAD A $500 COMPREHENSIVE DEDUCTIBLE AND HAD TO PAY THAT IN FULL TO GET A NEW WINDSHIELD.
BATTERY DRAINED WHILE CAMPING 3 NIGHTS IN A REMOTE LOCATION, EVEN THOUGH NO LIGHTS (INCLUDING INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS) OR OTHER ACCESSORIES (E.G., RADIO) WERE USED. WE DID HAVE THE POWER TAILGATE OPEN AT TIMES, WHICH WE NOW UNDERSTAND IS BADLY DESIGNED TO DRAIN THE BATTERY. DEALER (AND SUBARU CORP) DID NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE EXPLANATION FOR WHY A BATTERY WOULD DRAIN (ESPECIALLY WHEN ONLY 3 MONTHS OLD). SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE CAMPING A YEAR LATER, AFTER WHICH WE INSISTED (REQUIRING CONSIDERABLE ARGUMENT) ON A LARGER BATTERY. BUT SAME THING (DRAINED BATTERY, DESPITE NO USE OF AUX ELECT) JUST HAPPENED ON ANOTHER 3-DAY CAMPING TRIP THIS PAST WEEK. (IN ALL 3 CASES, CAR WAS PARKED FOR 2-3 DAYS WITH NO LIGHTS OR RADIO USED, BUT WITH POWER TAILGATE OPENED AT TIMES FOR ACCESS TO CAMPING EQUIPMENT.)
UPON IMPACT, IN AN ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED ON AUGUST 20, 2017 WITH MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE AUTO BODY REPAIR SPECIALIST EXAMINED THE CAR, & THE ANGLE IN WHICH IMPACT OCCURRED AND BELIEVES THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE IN FACT,DEPLOYED. I ALSO HAD THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER FROM USAA LOOK AT THE PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE ACCIDENT. HIS PROFESSIONAL OPINION WAS ALSO THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE OTHER VEHICLE INVOLVED HAD THEIR AIRBAGS DEPLOY. I TURNED THE CAR ON WHILE IT WAS STATIONARY, AND SWITCHED TO REVERSE BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I SWITCHED IT TO DRIVE AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATION PEDAL BUT THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY REV; THE TIRES WOULD NOT MOVE. I SWITCHED THE CAR TO NEUTRAL AND CALLED BROWN'S MANASSAS TO TOW THE CAR TO THEIR DEALERSHIP.
TAKATA INFLATORS I CANNOT FIND OUT IF MY AIR BAGS ON MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK ARE ON THE RECALL.I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER.CAN YOU PLEASE FIND OUT AND LET ME KNOW
WHILE BRAKING AT AN INTERSECTION THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE INTO THE INTERSECTION. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN. I NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON MY FOOT POSITION EVERY TIME I HIT THE BRAKES TO MAKE SURE THAT MY FOOT DOES NOT ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE GAS ALSO. FOR YOUR INFORMATION, I AM 6 FEET TALL AND WEAR A SIZE 11 1/2 SHOE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE FORWARD AFTER OR DURING A MANEUVERING THE VEHICLE IN A SENSE WHERE THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO DECELERATE THE VEHICLE FIRST. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP A TOTAL OF 2 TIMES SUBARU OF JACKSONVILLE (10800 ATLANTIC BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32225, (904) 641-6455) WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS A DINO FLOW TRANSMISSION AND NEEDED TO BE OPERATED IN A CERTAIN MANNER THAT THE CONTACT MAY NOT HAVE DONE. THE CONTACT MADE THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS OPERATING THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO PROVIDED THE CONTACT A LOANER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
WINDOW CRACKED BUT WAS NOT HIT WITH ANYTHING. CRACK APPEARED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, HALFWAY DOWN THE WINDSHIELD, AND OBSTRUCTS VIEW OF THE DRIVER. CAR HAS LESS THAN 1600 MILES ON IT. DEALER STATED IT WAS NOT COVERED AS A DEFECT AND WE ARE ON OWN OWN TO REPLACE IT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELDS CRACKING BECAUSE THEY ARE TO THIN. DANGEROUS TO DRIVE DUE TO VISIBILITY ISSUES.
FIRST BRAKING ISSUE (ALSO POWER TRAIN): THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ONLY SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THE HEIGHT OF THE GAS PEDAL. CONSEQUENTLY, SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING, MY RIGHT FOOT HAS HIT BOTH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE GAS PEDAL SIMULTANEOUSLY, ESPECIALLY IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. IN SUCH INSTANCE, THE RESULT IS A POWER SURGE WHILE BRAKING, POTENTIALLY EXTENDING THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE CAR. OTHER CARS (NON-SUBARU) HAVE THE BRAKE PEDAL HIGHER, SO THIS SIMULTANEOUS APPLICATION OF BRAKES AND POWER IS LESS LIKELY TO HAPPEN. THE DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER SAYS THE HEIGHT OF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT ADJUSTABLE, AND REFERS OWNERS TO SUBARU'S CUSTOMER RETAIL SERVICES. SUBARU'S CUSTOMER RETAIL SERVICES CLAIMS THERE IS NO WAY TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT OF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM. SECOND BRAKING ISSUE: UNLIKE OTHER CARS, THERE IS NO EMERGENCY HAND BRAKE OR FOOT BRAKE ON THE SUBARU, SO THE RISK OF AN ACCIDENT IS HIGH IF THE REGULAR BRAKES FAIL. THE BRAKES HAVE NOT YET FAILED, BUT THERE SHOULD BE REDUNDANCY FOR THIS CRITICAL BRAKING FUNCTION.
NOTICED A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. NO IMPACT OR EVENT CAUSED THE EVENT. FILED CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. WE NOTICED CRACK AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES DRIVING AFTER STOPPING FOR LUNCH.
DOOR LOCKS DOORS DONT AUTOLOCK WHEN IN DRIVE. DOOR WOULD HAVE OPENED WHILE DRIVING.
NEW TYPE TRANSMISSION -HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, MORE SO WHEN CAR IS COOL. BACK OUT ON A DOWNHILL SLOPE HOLD BRAKE, PUT IN DRIVE. IT TAKES 1 TO 3 SECONDS FOR DRIVE TO ENGAGE BUT NOTHING SHOWS WHEN IT IS ENGAGED. YOU CAN HOWEVER HEAR THE PING OF THE ENGAGEMENT WITH WINDOW DOWN. IF YOU REMOVE FOOT FROM BRAKE AND PRESS GAS THE CAR WILL ROLL BACKWARDS 6-10 FEET TOWARDS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS OCCURS WITH OR WITHOUT THE HILL ASSIST ON. SUBARU SAYS THIS IS NORMAL NATURE FOR THE CAR.
battery drains consistently after a few days of not driving/
SUBARU 2017 PUSH BUTTON START ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE WITH CAR GEAR SELECTOR STILL IN DRIVE. WHEN I DID THIS, THE CAR BEGAN TO ROLL AS I EXITED. FORTUNATELY, I HAD ONE FOOT STILL IN THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL.
REPLACED CRACKED WINDSHIELD WITH OEM REPLACEMENTS TWICE, 6/19/2017 AND 6/7/2018
TAKATA RECALL--CHECKING IF APPROPRIATE
OUR WINDSHIELD BEGAN SLOWLY CRACKING STARTING AT THE BASE OF THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDOW. IT BEGAN AT THE BOTTOM EDGE (HEAT STRIP) AND MOVED HALF UP THE WINDSHIELD BEFORE WE REPLACED. COST $569 FOR OEM WINDSHIELD. SUBARU DEALER DENIED THE WARRANTY CLAIM, WHILE ADMITTING A PROBLEM WITH EARLIER VERSIONS THAT YEAR'S OUTBACK.
MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN. WITHIN TWO MONTHS OF PURCHASING MY NEW VEHICLE IN 2017 THE BATTERY DIED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR TWO DAYS. NOTHING WAS LEFT ON TO DRAIN THE BATTERY, SOMETHING WITHIN THE PRE-DESIGNED ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED DRAINING MY BATTERY. THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN PERIODICALLY OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS UNTIL I DECIDED TO PURCHASE AN OPTIMA RED TOP BATTERY AT MY OWN EXPENSE SINCE SUBARU DID NOT PROVIDE AN ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED, WHEN BUYING A NEW VEHICLE I DO NOT EXPECT THE BATTERY TO DIE RIGHT AWAY.
ON 8 JUNE 2017 I HAD JUST PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A MEDICAL SUITE WHEN MY LEASED THREE MONTH OLD 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH 1,000 MILES SUDDENLY HAD AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION EPISODE JUMPING THE CURB AND CRASHING INTO A BRICK WALL AND SUITE DOOR AFTER DISPLACING A THRESHOLD COLUMN BY TWO INCHES. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, THE "EYESIGHT" FUNCTION DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE, THE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN ME AND MY CHEST SLAMMED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL, MY KNEES CRASHED INTO THE DASHBOARD. ON 2 JUNE, LESS THAN A WEEK EARLIER, THE CAR HAD DONE THE SAME UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, BUT NOTHING WAS HIT AT THAT TIME. AFTER THE INITIAL AMBULANCE ER VISIT, PLUS TWO MORE, MY PHYSICAL INJURIES CONSISTING OF ACHES AND PAINS, BRUISES, XRAYS, IV TREATMENT FOR PERSISTENT HEADACHE AFTER THE ACCIDENT, ARE INSIGNIFICANT COMPARED TO THE MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL DAMAGE. NOT TO MENTION THE ECONOMIC BURDEN AND FRUSTRATING SITUATION THIS LEAVES ME IN. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND SENT IN PICTURES OF THE VEHICLES AND DAMAGED BUILDING. THEY IN TURN REFERRED MY COMPLAINT TO SUBARU OF AMERICA WHO WAS VERY DILIGENT IN PERFORMING AN INVESTIGATION AND KEEPING ME UPDATED WITH THE PROCEDURE. HOWEVER, ALMOST TWO MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT, SUBARU OF AMERICA CLAIMS THEIR RESULTS INDICATE "MISAPPLICATION OF THROTTLE AND BREAK" CLEARLY PUTTING THE BLAME ON ME, WITHOUT MENTIONING ANYTHING ABOUT THE FIRST INCIDENT, AND THE LACK OF RESPONSE OF THE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE VEHICLE DURING THE ACCIDENT. THERE ARE AT LEAST 34 REPORTS OF SIMILAR ACCIDENTS DUE TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OF OUTBACK VEHICLES, AND AT LEAST 70 RELATED TO THE SUBARU FORESTER ON CARPROBLEMZOO.COM SINCE 2000. I NOW FIND MYSELF WITH A BEAUTIFUL BRAND NEW VEHICLE THAT I WILL PAY THE LEASE FOR, BUT DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING OUT OF FEAR THAT THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WILL REOCCUR.
CAR ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT INPUT FROM DRIVER.WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN I WAS SLOWING DOWN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE CAR ENGINE SUDDENLY RAVED UP TO 4000 K, WHEN I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL ENGINE REVVED TO 7000K. I PUT CAR BACK IN GEAR AND DROVE CAR APPROXIMATELY A QUARTER MILE BACK TO MY HOME USING THE BRAKES TO CONTROL SPEED OF CAR AND CALLED THE DEALER. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER WHERE IT REMAINS.
WITHIN A COUPLE WEEKS OF HAVING TO HAVE OUR WINDSHIELD FIXED, I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD ON A FREEWAY, APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, WHEN A CRACK STREAKED ACROSS OUR WINDSHIELD. WE COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY, THINKING MAYBE A TINY ROCK HIT US. A FEW DAYS LATER WE ASKED SUBARU TO FIX IT, BUT THEY SAID THAT'S NOT WHAT THEY DO AND SENT US TO A LOCAL AUTO GLASS COMPANY. THEY SAID THESE NEW WINDSHIELDS WITH ALL THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE EYESIGHT, ETC. SEEM TO MAKE THE WINDSHIELDS MORE FRAGILE. ON JUNE 1ST, 2017 (OUR CAR WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD), HAVING THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED, WE PICKED IT UP TO A TUNE OF $1,485.02. I WONDERED WHEN WE WOULD HAVE TO BE BACK IN FOR ANOTHER FIX. VERY CONCERNING.
MY OUTBACK WAS PURCHASED NEW IN APRIL 2017. MY CONCERN IS THAT STEERING IS IMPRECISE, PARTICULARLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WANDERS/REQUIRES NEARLY CONSTANT "CENTERING" AND DOES NOT TEND TO RETURN TO CENTER AFTER TURNING. I HAVE SOMETIMES FELT A FEAR THAT A GUST OF WIND OR ROAD ANOMALY AT THE WRONG TIME WILL CAUSE THIS VEHICLE TO LEAVE THE ROAD SURFACE UNEXPECTEDLY.
I PURCHASED MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK BRAND NEW IN JANUARY, 2017. CURRENTLY, IN MAY 2017, THE VEHICLE HAS 3200 MILES OF OPERATION. THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS THREE-FOLD. 1. AROUND TOWN IN CITY TRAFFIC, THE STEERING IS HEAVY AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. IT IS VERY TIRING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNDER THESE CONDITION. AT TIMES, IT FEELS AS IF YOU MAY SUDDENLY LOOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING. 2. THE VEHICLE WANDERS. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE ON CENTER OF THE LANE. YOU MUST CONSTANTLY CORRECT FROM LEFT TO RIGHT IN ORDER TO KEEP THE CAR ON-TRACK. AT ONE TIME DURING ONE OF THESE CORRECTIONS, THE VEHICLE CROSSED THE LANE DIVIDER AND ALMOST IMPACTED THE VEHICLE DRIVING ADJACENT TO ME. 3. STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT RETURN TO STRAIGHT AHEAD. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT "RETURN TO CENTER" UNDER ANY OPERATING CONDITIONS. ON MOST CARS, IF YOU TURN THE WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT, THE STEERING GEOMETRY TRIES TO RETURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO CENTER POSITION TO KEEP THE VEHICLE TRAVELING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE SUBARU OUTBACK DOES NOT EXHIBIT THIS CAPABILITY.
I BOUGHT A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK IN MARCH,2017. IT HAS 1946 MILES. CAR HAS SAFETY ISSUES. CAR DOESN'T GO INTO PARK, INSTEAD IT GOES INTO REVERSE. IT HAPPENED WHEN COME HOME TRY TO PUT IN PARK, I COME OUT OF THE CAR BUT IT START GOING BACK. ALSO AFTER THAT IT WAS NOT GOING INTO DRIVE EITHER. SUBARU CHANGE THE SHIFT ASSEMBLY, BUT THE CAR STILL MAKE "KLUNK" NOISE WHEN I PUT IN THE PARK.
WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO FORWARD THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE HESITATION AND THEN THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO TEAM SUBARU IN NAMPA IDAHO AND THEY CANNOT DETERMINE ANY PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE HESITATION IS NORMAL. I DO NOT AGREE. BECAUSE NOT ONLY DOES IT HESITATE, BUT THE LURCH WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY ENGAGES IS CONSIDERABLE. I DID NOT NOTICE THIS UNTIL THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 1000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE JUST OVER 7100 MILES ON IT NOW.
IN APRIL 2017, JUST 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY OUTBACK NEW, I WAS DRIVING ALONG I-10 IN LOUISIANA WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND A CRACK IN WINDSHIELD APPEARED. IT BEGAN TO GROW AND A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER, IN JUNE, THERE WAS ANOTHER SPONTANEOUS CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD THAT APPEARED. MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT MY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED. THE COST WAS OVER $600 FOR REPLACEMENT AND CALIBRATION OF EYE SIGHT. WE PURCHASED THE OEM WINDSHIELD BECAUSE THEY TOLD US OUR EYE SIGHT MAY NOT WORK WITH A GENERIC WINDSHIELD. IT WAS REPLACED AUGUST OF 2017 - CAR WAS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD. WELL, A YEAR LATER IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018, THE SPONTANEOUS CRACKS STARTED APPEARING AGAIN. AND NOW THE CRACK EXPANDS ACROSS THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. I AM UPSET AT HAVING TO CHANGE IT AGAIN BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE THIS WILL HAPPEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT IS DANGEROUS AND EFFECTS VISIBILITY. SUBARU SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS.
DRIVING BACK TO MICHIGAN FROM FLORIDA, MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK (6000 MILES) STALLED TWICE UNEXPECTEDLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ON I75. THE VEHICLE WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WHEN IT STALLED. I COASTED TO THE MEDIAN, PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. (BOTH TIMES) THE CONDITION HAS NOT REPEATED ITSELF SINCE, NOW HAS (7800 MILES). SUBARU DEALERSHIP COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SUBARU CUSTOMER SERVICE CANNOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
The battery has drained on at least 4 occasions, resulting in 3 tow trips to the dealer. I left the vehicle there one time for 2 weeks while on vacation so they could watch for and analyze drain. Nothing was found they said. The dealer replaced the battery at least once and I bought a ‘platinum’-level toe one at at car parts store.

BATTERY DIED AT 22928 MILES AND LESS THAN 2 YEARS. DEALER REPLACED, BUT 18 MONTHS LATER, AND SEVERAL JUMP STARTS, WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. NOW, OUT OF WARRANTY, WE SPENT $673 TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE CIRCUIT BOARD THAT WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY.
THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON A WEEK AGO AND THE ENGINE BECAME SLUGGISH WHEN ACCELERATING. WE TOOK THE CAR TO MARIN SUBARU SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. RESULT IS THAT A RODENT MUST HAVE CHEWED THROUGH THE SOY-BASED HARNESS COVERING THE SENSOR WIRE. REPAIR BILL = $1,400, SUBARU SAYS ITS NOT COVERED BY THE NEW CAR WARRANTY. THEY ARE TELLING US NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR NOW AS IT COULD BE DANGEROUS. INSURANCE SAYS IT DOES NOT COVER THIS EITHER. SUBARU AND THE OTHER MFTRS HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR SOME TIME APPARENTLY BUT CONTINUE TO USE MATERIAL THEY KNOW ATTRACTS RODENTS.

THE AUTOMATIC REAR BRAKING IS OVERLY SENSITIVE AND SLAMS ON THE BRAKES ANYTIME I BACK OUT OF A DRIVEWAY; UNLESS I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT THE MOMENT THE TIRES MAKE CONTACT WITH THE STREET. THE DEALER TELLS POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS THIS CAN BE ADJUSTED, BUT WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN ADJUSTMENT, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW TO ADJUST IT. SUBARU CLAIMS IT'S WORKING AS DESIGNED, BUT THEY'VE NEVER TESTED IT ON THE ROAD. THE ONLY THING THEY DO IS PLUG IT IN TO THEIR COMPUTER; AND THEY FIND NO ERROR CODES. THE 2018 SUBARU OUTBACK IS NOT AS SENSITIVE.
THIS VEHICLE IS DRIVEN CIRCA 125MILES/MONTH. THE BATTERY IS USUALLY DRAINED BEFORE USE, AND MUST BE CHARGED. IT IS TYPICALLY OK UNTIL THE NEXT USE, WHEN RECHARGE MUST RECUR. THIS MEANS THAT THE COMPUTER IS ALWAYS RESETTING ITSELF. THE RESET CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO FAIL STATE INSPECTION. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRENT PROBLEM SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN FEBRUARY 2017.

IN THE SUMMER OF 2017 THREE INCIDENTS OF COMPLETE FAILURE WAS REPORTED ON GRAVE ROAD AT SPEEDS OF 15-MPH, I HAVE HAD THE VERY SAME COMPLAINT EVERY VISIT: 2/28/17, 3/23/17, 4/6/17. 9/13/17, 10/22/17, 1/22/17- @ PARKER SUBARU CDA.
AS EXIT MY LEVEL GARAGE THE DRIVEWAY IS ON AT 9% DOWN SLOPE WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE AND BACK UP OUT OF THE GARAGE AND THEN PLACE THE CAR TO DRIVE TO MOVE BACK UP THE DRIVEWAY TO LOAD MY WIFE AND GRANDCHILD THE CAR SLIPS BACKWARDS BETWEEN ONE AND 3 FEET OR THREE SECONDS OF HIS FULL SLIPPAGE. MY GRANDDAUGHTER AT TWO YEARS OF AGE DOES NOT KNOW THAT THE CAR WILL SLIP BACK WITHOUT CONTROL. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND CAN CAUSE CRITICAL HARM TO HER AND/OR MY WIFE. OTHER CAR MANUFACTURES CVT TRANSMISSIONS HAS ALMOST ZERO SLIPPAGE FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THIS CHARACTERISTIC ON THE 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK CREATES A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION AND IF SAFETY IS YOUR BIGGEST CONCERN I FIND THIS A BIG SAFETY CHARACTERISTIC AND IF I KNEW THIS BEFORE I WOULD NOT HAVE LEASED THIS VEHICLE.
I WAS DRIVING 75 MILES PER HOUR ON A BUSY HIGHWAY IN HOLIDAY SKI TRAFFIC AND THE PANEL JUST ABOVE THE BRAKE AND GAS PETAL FELL DOWN AND BLOCKED MY ACCESS TO THE BREAK PETAL AND LIMITED MY ABILITY TO MOVE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PETAL. I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR, WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED IN THE LEFT LANE BY YANKING THE PANEL OFF MY FEET AND SLOWING DOWN TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY. I STOPPED THE CAR, PUT THE PANEL BACK IN IT'S PLACE AND SECURED IT WITH DUCK TAPE. I PURCHASED THIS BAND NEW CAR ON 12/30/16 AND THIS HAPPENED ON 2/17/17.
I have had issues with battery drain since purchasing the car. On 6-7 occasions the battery died through no identified cause. Once it was in the mountains where we went skiing for the day and returned to the car and the battery was dead. The other 5-6 occasions, I did not use my car for durations ranging from a few days to 3 weeks and when i went to use it, the battery was dead. It should not lose charge for that short of a duration of non-use. I took it to the dealer for an electrical and battery inspection and they found no issues. They refused to replace the battery since they said it was fine. I decided to replace it on my own dime due to the issues. But even after replacing it with a brand new battery, the issue has persisted. I've had to purchase a portable charger that i carry with me at all times because I am nervous of it dying and being stranded like it did on the mountain especially because I have small children.

REPORTED IT TO SUBARU CORPORATE OFFICES. THEY REFUSE TO CHECK INTO IT AND SAY IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. I AM VERY CAREFUL ABOUT PULLING INTO TRAFFIC AS I NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN. IT ALSO HAS A ROUGH IDLE. I KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES IN THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY.

STAR CRACK IN WINDSHIELD DISCOVERED STATIONARY (IN CARPORT) THE DAY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE (ODOMETER READING 200 MILES). LOCATION OF CRACK SLIGHTLY ABOVE WIPER BLADE ON PASSENGER SIDE. IMPACT STRIKE THE SIZE OF A PINHEAD. THE DAMAGE IS CHARACTERISTIC OF PRIOR MODEL YEARS 2015 AND 2016 IN WHICH THE MANUFACTURER INITIATED RECALLS. IT IS APPARENT THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES AND HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED.

I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IN IN MY CAR. THE GAUGE SKIPS AROUND WHILE DRIVING. IT MAY SHOW A FULL TANK, BUT 5 MINUTES LATER SHOW 1/4 TANK. AFTER ANOTHER 5 MINUTES THE GAUGE MAY SHOW 3/4 TANK. A NEW CAR WITHOUT A WORKING GAS GAUGE! RIDICULOUS!
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD WITH THE ENGINE REVVING. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES PREVENTING A COLLISION WITH THE CARE PARKED IN THE OPPOSITE PARKING SPACE. THE CAR CONTINUED TO TRY TO ACCELERATE. I TOOK THE CAR OUT OF GEAR AND THE ENGINE ROARED, OVER REVVED, SLOWED, AND OVER REVVED A SECOND TIME BEFORE FINELY SLOWING DOWN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE. HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM/CRUISE CONTROL.
