FRONT SUSPENSION FAILED AT 64,XXX MILES. LOUD RATTLING AT LOW SPEEDS AND OVER ANY BUMPS OR DRIVEWAYS. TESLA SAID IT WAS A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM BUT AT 64K MILES, SUSPENSION SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED.
ISSUE 1). EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR I NOTICED THE DRIVERS SEAT FELT COOKED CAUSING LOW BACK PAIN. EVENTUALLY THE SEATS POWER ADJUSTMENT WOULD ONLY RETRACT ONE SIDE SO IT COULD NOT BE ADJUSTED EVENLY AND I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE A WHOLE NEW SEAT REPLACED ISSUE 2). I HAVE THE 85 KW BATTERY AND AFTER AN UPDATE MY BATTERY CAPACITY WAS REDUCED 10%. I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO RISK OF OVERHEATING THE BATTERY FIRE RISK TESLA NEVER RESOLVED THE ISSUE AND NEVER REINSTATED THE MISSING 10% CHARGE CAPACITY 3). THE SUSPENSION HAD FAILED AS I WAS DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP LESS THAN 10 MPH AND THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR SCRAPPED THE PAVEMENT. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THE SUSPENSION
AN INCREASE IN MCU ROGUE REBOOTS/CRASHES A SIGNIFICANT SLOWING DOWN OF THE MCU IN OPERATION, E.G. SLOW BOOT TIMES OR SLOW MAP RENDERING GLITCHES AND ISSUES WITH BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY. BLINKER NOT BLINKING.
TOUCH SCREEN MEMORY CHIP FAILING. SCREEN HAS GONE BLANK WHILE DRIVING AND NO LONGER WILL PROCESS THINGS THAT PREVIOUSLY WORKED - PERHAPS MEMORY CAPACITY IS IMPAIRED ? REAR VISIBILITY IS MARGINAL WHEN SCREEN CAN NOT DISPLAY REAR CAMERA. SCREEN FAILURE WHILE DRIVING WAS ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY.
THERE ARE TWO ISSUES WITH THE CAR AND FOUND OTHER OWNERS HAVE SEEING THE SAME ISSUE 1. THE LARGE SCREEN GOES BLANK AND DARK AND IS UNUSABLE AND TAKES A WHILE TO START UP THE OTHER FUNCTIONS CAN'T BE USED 2) THE DOOR HANDLE STOPPED GOING IN AND OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON LINE WITH THE WIRING BEING FRAYED AND BROKEN AND THE COGS ALSO WEAR OUT THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED ON LINE WITH OTHER MODEL S OWNERS THE TECHNICIAN WHO CAME TO REPLACE THE OK'D ONE STATED THAT THIS IS AN UPGRADE AND NOT A REPLACEMENT WHICH I THINK SHOULD BE DONE FOR ALL 4 AND SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL SINCE THE DOORS ARE NOT OPENING FROM THE OUTSIDE AND WILL BE DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE DOOR IN CASE OF AN EMERGANCY.
TWO DAYS PRIOR DOOR HANDLES ON FRONT PASSENGER DOOR ,OPENING AND CLOSING BY ITSELF. NOT EVEN ALLOW ENTRY TO CAR. ON 11/8/2020 WHILE CAR IN DRIVE DOOR COMPLETELY OPENED. NOT HANDLE BUT DOOR COMPLETELY OPENED. I'M AFRAID OF SEVERE CONSEQUENCES. TESLA NOT ADMIT ANT ISSUE LIKE THIS . DOORS WERE RETROFIT FOR A FIX ABOUT A YEAR AGO . NOW THI IS LIFE AND DEATH OR SEVERE INJURY AND LOST OF LIFE . HELP ME , TESLA ONLY WANTS ME TO PAY AGAIN AND COVERUP AGAIN . MUST RECALL BEFORE LOST OF LIFE IS THE COST.VIDEO AVAILABLE
FRONT PASSENGER CONTROL ARM IS BROKEN, PUSHING THE TIRE INTO THE WHEEL WELL. I WAS REVERSING IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I FELT THE DRAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED AROUND THE VEHICLE AND SAW A METAL PIECE SNAPPED. I COULD NOT MOVE THE CAR, AS THE TIRE WAS PUSHED INTO THE WHEEL WELL. CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK. THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN FREMONT, CA IN 08/2015, WITH THE OTHER VEHICLES SOLD TO CHINA, WHICH ARE NOW BEING RECALLED FOR THE SAME REASON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE MASTER CONTROL UNIT WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BACK OVER PREVENTION CAMERA DISPLAY AND TURN SIGNALS WERE INOPERABLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER TESLA ATLANTA LOCATED AT 3393 PEACHTREE RD NE, ATLANTA, GA 30326 WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
PULLING MY CAR OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I ATTEMPTED TO REVERSE THE CAR INTO THE GARAGE TO CHARGE IT. AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE I HEARD A LOUD POP NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL REFUSED TO TURN. ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL RESULTED IN A GRINDING NOISE THAT MADE THE CAR UNDRIVEBLE. AFTER A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED, WE NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WAS SHIFTED BACKWARD AND WAS RESTING ON THE REAR OF THE WHEEL WELL LINER. THE AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO MOVE THE HEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE AND INSTEAD WERE LOCKED AT "VERY HIGH".
HEAD AND TAIL LIGHTS TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. NEITHER HIGH NOR LOW BEAMS WOULD ENGAGE! A DRIVER BEHIND ME SAW WHAT HAPPENED AND TURNED ON HIS HIGH BEAMS TO GUIDE ME APPROX 1 MILE TO A SAFE STOPPING PLACE. ONCE STOPPED, I EXPERIMENTED: HAZARD LIGHTS WOULD TURN ON. NO OTHER LIGHTS TURNED ON. I REBOOTED BOTH THE "MCU" (CENTRAL 15" SCREEN) AND "IC" (INSTRUMENT CLUSTER) PER EARLIER INSTRUCTIONS FROM TESLA IN CASE OF AUTOMATION FAILURE IN THE CAR. THE MCU TOOK AN EXTREMELY LONG TIME TO RESTART AND DISPLAYED SCREEN CORRUPTION, PROBLEMS WHICH IN THE PAST HAD LED TESLA TO REPLACE THAT COMPONENT OF THIS VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN THE MCU DID START UP, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISPLAYED "DRIVER ASSISTANCE FEATURES DISABLED". I ATTEMPTED TO USE TESLA'S VOICE-ACTIVATED "REPORT" FUNCTION TO GET HELP FROM TESLA, BUT THIS RESULTED IN A MESSAGE STATING THAT "THE MICROPHONE IS BEING CALIBRATED". THIS ENTIRE TIME, THE HEAD AND TAIL LIGHTS REMAINED OFF AND WOULD NOT TURN ON. FINALLY I USED THE MCU TO ACCESS THE LIGHTING SETTINGS OF THE CAR. I OBSERVED THAT THE "EXTERIOR LIGHTS" SETTING DISPLAYED "AUTO". HOWEVER, IT WAS 6:40PM AND ALMOST COMPLETELY DARK AND THE LIGHTS HAD BEEN ON PREVIOUS TO SUDDENLY TURNING OFF. ALSO, WITH THE "AUTO" SETTING, THE HIGH BEAMS SHOULD STILL ENGAGE WHEN PULLING THE LEFT STALK - BUT THIS DID NOT WORK. I NEXT USED THIS SAME SCREEN TO TURN ON THE FRONT FOG LIGHTS. THIS WORKED! I THEN TURNED OFF THE FOG LIGHTS, CHANGED THE "EXTERIOR LIGHTS" SETTING TO OFF THEN BACK TO "AUTO" AND ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS (HEAD AND TAIL) FINALLY CAME BACK ON! IT IS MY OPINION, BASED ON OVER 20 YEARS IN EMBEDDED SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT, THAT THE MCU'S "EXTERIOR LIGHTS" SETTING HAD BECOME CORRUPTED AND FORCED ALL VEHICLE LIGHTS OFF WHILE I DROVE IN DARKNESS AT 45MPH. I COULD HAVE DIED. MAKE TESLA FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEONE DIES!
TWO DAYS BEFORE THE CHINA RECALL ON SUSPENSION FOR TESLA, I HAD A QUOTE TO FIX FRONT AFT LINK AND REAR UPPER LINK ON BOTH SIDES. IT:'S A 2000$ JOB IN PART BECAUSE OF EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE PARTS FROM TESLA. IT IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS RECALLED IN CHINA. THE GUY ALSO ADMITTED THAT FIRST VERSIONS OF THE LINKS LIKE MINE WERE NOT GOOD AND THAT THE SECOND VERSION WAS WAY MORE RESISTANT. ON MANY CARS, THIS WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY IN THE FIRST FOUR YEARS BUT I HAVE LOW MILEAGE ON MY CAR WITH 47K MILES. I THOUGHT THAT IF CHINA FORCES TESLA TO ADMIT THE FAILURE, WE SHOULD HAVE THE EQUIVALENT HERE IN AMERICA.
Was driving on freeway at approx. 55 mph. Had to brake rapidly (but not emergency type braking) for accident ahead. Passenger side front wheel locked up and could only drive vehicle to exit freeway. A piece of metal from the suspension had broken and was caught between wheel and brake. Car was towed to Tesla where they indicated the front lower fore link had failed.
THE MCU IN THIS CAR WENT BLACK SEVERAL OCCASION WHILE DRIVING. I LOST ALL CONTROLS OF LIGHTINGS AND WIPER. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS....THE CAR SHUT DOWN AND I HAVE TO COAST TO THE AIDE OF THE HIGJWAY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BACK OVER PREVENTION CAMERA FAILED TO ILLUMINATE PROPERLY. AN ERROR MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED AND INDICATED THAT THE CENTER DISPLAY WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TESLA (1901 DEL MONTE BLVD, SEASIDE, CA 93955, (831) 264-6896) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED THAT THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
MY CENTER SCREEN THAT CONTROLS THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONS SUCH AS AIR CONDITIONING, ALL VEHICLE SETTINGS, MAP, CRUISE CONTROL, VEHICLE COLLISION SENSORS, LDER, ETC ARE NOT FUNCTIONING BECAUSE THE MCU UNIT FAILED. THE EMMC CHIP INSIDE MCU FAILED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DOWNLOADING A UPDATE SENT FROM TESLA OVER THE AIR. THE CAR DOESNT WANT TO TURN ON HALF THE TIME AND VEHICLE DRIVEABILITY AND FUNCTIONS ARE VERY LIMITED. TESLA HASNT RESPONDED TO MY COMPLAINTS AND MY ISSUE. THE CAR WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND DOWNLOADING WHEN THE SCREEN QENT BLACK AND NEVWR TURNED BACK ON. I TOOK IT TO A TESLA 3RD PARTY SHOP AND THEY ADVISED ME TO KEEP CALLING TESLA TO NOTIFY THEM OF FAULTY MCU AND EMMC UNIT. THE DANGER IS THAT THE VEHICLE COLLISION AND SAFETY FEATURES ARE DISABLED AND ITS DNGEROUS DRIVING ON ROADS.
THE TOUCHSCREEN WOULD BECOME LESS RESPONSIVE, THE POWER-UP TIME BECOMES LONGER, THE SCREEN WOULD FREEZE AND I WOULD HAVE TO BE REBOOTED TO PUT IN MY PIN TO DRIVE. INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM HAS STOPPED WORKING, ALONG WITH IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURES LIKE LIGHTING, BLINKERS, CRUISE CONTROL, CLIMATE.
TOUCHSCREEN FAILED. TESLA HAS ORDERED A REPLACE PART. I AM NOT USING TESLA UNTIL REPAIRED. FROM DOWN DATE TO REPAIR TIME-ABOUT ONE MONTH0
ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2020 AS I WAS BACKING INTO MY GARAGE I HAD THE WHEEL TURNED TO THE LEFT AND THERE WAS SUDDENLY A LOUD NOISE AND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL APPEARED TO HAVE DISCONNECTED FROM THE AXLE.
MCU 1 FAILING ON CAR. CAR SCREENS TURN OFF RANDOMLY, STARTUP IS PROLONGED, LOSES DRIVER SAFETY FEATURES AND OVERALL SLOW/LAG MAKING IT HARD TO ACCESS MANDATORY US ROAD SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AS LIGHTS. TESLA REFUSES TO FIX.
MCU SHUTS DOWN WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. YOU LOSE DEFROST AND OTHER MAJOR FACTORS THAT EFFECT SAFETY. CANNOT NAME A PARTICULAR DAY BUT TESLA HAS THIS INFORMATION. I TEXT THE TECH ON 09/03/2020 HE TOLD ME IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IF IT HAPPENS IN WINTER, I WILL WRECK IF I CANNOT SEE.
MCU UNIT WONT TURN ON. THIS UNIT CONTROLS HVAC / SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AS CHILD LOCKS / SUNROOF / AND MOST IMPORTANTLY TURN SIGNALS. THE CAR TURNS ON BUT THE SCREEN STAYS OFF. I THINK THIS HAS TO DO WITH ITS MEMORY, I HAD A SMILIAR ISSUE ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WHERE AN UPDATE CAUSED THE CAR TO REBOOT REPEATEDLY UNTIL SOMEONE AT TESLA INSTALLED A REMOTE UPDATE AND REBOOTED THE CAR.
AT 30,500 MILES A SERIES OF FAILURES OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO SAN DIEGO ON THE FREEWAY. THE CENTER ENTERTAINMENT SCREEN FLICKER AND THEN TURN OFF ENTIRELY. I WAS ON AUTOPILOT MODE AT THE TIME AND IT TURNED OFF WITHOUT WARNING. FORTUNATELY, I HAD MY HANDS ON THE WHEEL AND WAS PREPARED TO TAKE OVER DRIVING WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILED. AT THE SAME TIME, WHEN THE CENTER DISPLAY TURNED OFF, I LOST FUNCTIONALITY OF ALL CONTROLS OF THE CAR THAT REQUIRED ACCESS TO THIS DISPLAY (VENTILATION, SUSPENSION, SOUND SYSTEM, REAR VIEW CAMERA, SUSPENSION SETTINGS, AUTOPILOT...). AT THE SAME TIME, MULTIPLE FAILURE MESSAGES APPEARED ON MY MAIN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REGARDING INABILITY TO CHARGE, AND SYSTEM FAILURES. THIS WAS ALL PRECEDED BY LONGER AND LONGER TIMES FOR THE CAR TO BOOT UP AND BE ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. AT THE END, THE CAR WOULDN'T BOOT UP AND WAS DISABLED. I WAS FORCED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A MY MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY MCU COMPUTER, WHICH I PAID TO HAVE IT REPLACED.
RE INVESTIGATION PE 20-010, MCU HAS FAILED AND LOSS OF REAR VIEW CAMERA DISPLAY IS A RESULT. REACHED OUT TO TESLA APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO AS THE MCU WAS BEGINNING TO FAIL. KNEW IT WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH TO GET AN APPOINTMENT/PARTS. TESLA REFUSED (VIA EMAIL) TO REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL MCU WAS IN COMPLETE FAILURE. UNIT COMPLETELY FAILED ON 9/8/2020. MADE APPOINTMENT FOR REPLACEMENT; FIRST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT WAS 9/30/2020.
WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THE CAR'S EMMC WENT DEAD AND TOOK OVER 10 MINUTES TO REBOOT. ALL SAFETY DRIVING FEATURES WERE NOT FUNCTIONING DURING THIS TIME. THIS IS THE FORTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS. TESLA SENT AN EMAIL THAT THEY HAD A MEMORY MODULE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR'S EMMC THAT CAUSED THE SAME PROBLEM I WAS EXPERIENCING, SO I MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. WHEN I TOOK IT IN I WAS TOLD MY CAR DID NOT HAVE BAD MEMORY MODULES. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS "NORMAL" FOR THE EMMC TO REBOOT FROM TIME TO TIME, AND AS A CURTSEY THEY WOULD NOT CHARGE ME A DIAGNOSTIC FEE FOR LOOKING AT IT. WE EXCHANGED SEVERAL EMAILS ABOUT HOW THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED "NORMAL" ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN, BUT THE OFFERED NO RESOLUTION TO THE ISSUE. THERE REALLY APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE EMMC UNITS AND TESLA DOESN'T KNOW HOW OR DOESN'T WANT TO FIX IT. WHEN THE UNIT STOPS WORKING I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR AND I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT.
THE MEDIA CONTROL UNIT WENT DARK ON 9/4/2020. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND TOOK DELIVERY 12/24/2015. VEHICLE HAS 54473 MILES CURRENTLY. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. WHILE DRIVING NO CONTROLS ACCESS TO THE CAR..NO CENTER DISPLAY NO AIRBAG AND AIRBAG ERROR...NO APP ACCESS EITHER AND CAR COULD NOT REBOOT EITHER...AND STRANGE CHARGING SOUND IN FRONT BATTERY
MCU GOES BLANK; THIS EFFECTS EXTERIOR LIGHTS; ACCELERATION SETTINGS; STEERING MODES; REGENERATIVE BRAKING; STOPPING MODE; THE ENTIRE SOUND SYSTEM, INCLUDING THE TURN-SIGNAL TONES; DISPLAYING WARNING NOTIFICATIONS; CRITICAL GAUGES; GPS NAVIGATION; SELF-DRIVING MODE; REAR VIEW CAMERA; ABILITY TO CHARGE; SUSPENSION; HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING; AND THE SUNROOF
HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE CENTRAL TOUCH SCREEN PANEL GOING BLANK. THE EMBEDDED MULTI-MEDIA-CARD MEMORY (EMMC) IN THE MCU INS LIKELY THE ISSUE. THIS IS CAUSING THE CENTRAL TOUCH SCREEN PANEL (THAT CONTROLS AIR BAGS, NAVIGATION, MUSIC, HEATING ETC..). THIS SCREEN HAS BEEN CAUSING A PROBLEM FOR MANY MONTHS. WE GOT A 'TEMPORARY FIX' BY A RESET THAT COST 100S OF DOLLARS - BUT IT WENT BLANK AGAIN. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW WE DRIVE THE CAR - IT HAS GOT FIXED IN THE 2018 AND LATER MODEL S MODELS - BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS A SYSTEMATIC ISSUE IN MANY CARS PRIOR TO THAT.
CENTER SCREEN (MCU) WENT OUT , LOSE ALL SAFETY FEATURES BECAUSE THE SCREEN IS ALL BLACK
THE TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN. I CRAWLED IN THE BACK AND TRIED TO USE THE SAFETY RELEASE. THE HANDLE OF THE SAFETY RELEASE BROKE, BUT THE TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN. HAD SOMEONE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE TRUNK, THEY WOULD HAVE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ESCAPE.
TOUCH SCREEN FAILS TO OPERATE. DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL LIGHTS ARE INOPERABLE. CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. PROBLEM WAS SUSPECTED 2 MONTHS AGO AND PART HAS BEEN BACK ORDERED SINCE THEN.
The information that is being provided should be added to a previous submission that was incomplete. - What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection. See attached estimate from TESLA for repairs. At slow speeds, when making a left turn out of the driveway or into a parking space, I noticed something is wobbling in the right front tire suspension. It was not tight. It resembles a loose ball in socket wobble. It was first felt with approximately 98,000 miles on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken in for the last checkup prior to the end of the extended warranty, but the problem was not discovered. I did not understand what was wrong with the vehicle until I took it in to TESLA to have a nail removed from the left rear. There is no excessive wear on my tires. I was informed that the vehicle needs $3660 in repairs to replace the suspension on all four wheels at 106,640 miles. Many of the miles on the vehicle are from interstate driving. The elevated rack inspection also revealed that the rear driver side wheel wobbles back and forth. Now I question the condition of the springs and struts. - Your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A failure in a joint such as a tie rod end or a ball joint, or one of the solid parts, a vehicle with a broken steering linkage part cannot be relied on to turn when you want it to. Experts say, "Suspensions are composed of too many different parts to list, but almost everyone is necessary for safe driving; any broken suspension part will have some negative effect on a car’s handling, steering, or braking, and a car with a broken suspension piece not listed above should not be driven lest you endanger yourself and others. Vehicle does not give any warnings that these parts are failing. I am currently on my 3rd set of tires, Michelin, Goodyear, Michelin all OEM. You would expect all parts designed for a TESLA be of the highest quality.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER TESLA LOCATED AT 5544 OKEECHOBEE BLVD, WEST PALM BEACH, FL 33417, 561-232-8984, WHO SENT A TECHNICIAN TO HIS RESIDENCE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
MCU FAILURE, WHEN BACKING UP THE REAR CAMERA DOES NOT TURN ON, CENTER SCREEN CONSOLE HAS GONE BLACK AND WILL NOT REBOOT DESPITE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO DO SO. SEEMS LIKE A MCU FAILURE. CAR IS ESSENTIALLY VERY HARD TO DRIVE - HARD TO BACK UP - REAR CAMERA IS NOT FUNCTIONING, HAS BECOME A SAFETY PROBLEM. HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT OVER LAST FEW WEEKS, NOW PERMANENT.
WHEN I TURNED ON MY CAR IN THE GARAGE THE TOUCH SCREEN WOULDN'T LIGHT UP AND THE CAR WAS DEAD. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THE MAN HAD ME GO THROUGH A SERIES OF RESETS WHICH FINALLY GOT THE CAR GOING ENOUGH SO I COULD DRIVE IT VERY CAREFULLY TO THE TESLA SERVICE CENTER WHICH IS 15 MILES AWAY. THE CAR COULD BE OPERATED BUT THERE WAS NO SCREEN AND THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNALS WOULDN'T WORK. THEY KEPT THE CAR FIVE DAYS TRYING TO RESTORE THE TOUCHSCREEN AND WERE FINALLY SUCCESSFUL. THEY SAID THEY DID NOT REPLACE PARTS AND THE COST WAS $186.11 THE SCREEN HAS GONE DARK A FEW TIMES SINCE BUT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET IT BACK WITH REBOOTING AND WAITING. OTHER COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ABOUT DON'T MENTION THE FACT THAT THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNALS DON'T WORK SO I FELT I SHOULD LET YOU KNOW THAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
WHILE STATIONARY, MIDDLE TOUCH PANEL (MCU) ON MY 2015 TESLA MODEL S 85 (~60,000 MILES) STARTED FREEZING UP BETWEEN VEHICLE CONTROLS (LOWER LEFT 'CAR' ICON) AND GARBLING SCREEN WHEN TRYING TO SWITCH BETWEEN THEM, A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. I NOTICED FIRST SYMPTOMS ABOUT A WEEK AGO WHEN PERCENT CHARGED ON THE MIDDLE TOUCH PANEL DIDN'T UPDATE TOGETHER WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHILE SUPERCHARGING. NOW I HAVE TO SCROLL-WHEEL-RESET MY CAR TWICE A DAY: BEFORE DRIVING TO WORK (IT'S FROZEN IN THE MORNING) AND AGAIN BEFORE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK (FROZEN AGAIN IN THE AFTERNOON). AN ADDITIONAL SYMPTOM MANIFESTED ITSELF TODAY: MY REARVIEW CAMERA STARTED GETTING A NASTY 'GRAY VEIL' OVER IT SO YOU CAN'T SEE ANYTHING; IT SEEMS TO KEEP APPEARING AND DISAPPEARING.
WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE ON A LEVEL SURFACE WE HEARD A LOUD POP. UNSURE WHAT THE NOISE WAS I DID A WALK AROUND THE CAR BUT DID NOT SEE ANYTHING UNUSUAL. WE DROVE THE CAR TO THE MOUNTAINS AT SPEEDS UP TO 55MPH. AS WE STARTED TO DRIVE HOME WE HEARD MORE SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE IN THE SUSPENSION. WE CALLED TESLA EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A HISTORY WITH SUSPENSION ISSUES. WE ALSO ASKED IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE HOME. THE TECH SAID THERE WAS NO SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE SUSPENSION. HE WAS UNSURE IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WE DID DRIVE THE VEHICLE SOME DISTANCE OUT OF THE MOUNTAINS WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE STOPPED TO VISIT A RESTAURANT AND WE HEARD FURTHER SOUNDS FROM THE SUSPENSION ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. INSPECTION SHOWED THAT THE LEFT FRONT DRIVERS WHEEL HAD MOVED BACK OUT OF CENTER IN THE WHEEL WELL AND HAD RUBBED THE WHEEL WELL LINER. FROM THIS POINT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE TESLA SERVICE CENTER. WE LATER LEARNED FROM AN INTERNET SEARCH THAT EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS WITHOUT ANY SHOCK TO THE SUSPENSION, TESLA MODEL S CONTROL ARM/FORE LINK ASSEMBLIES FAILED IN 2015 VEHICLES. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD BE CATASTROPHIC IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT HIGH SPEED. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A HISTORY OF FAILURES AND IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. WE FEEL THAT BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION OF THE 2015 ARE PRONE TO FAILURE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR SAFETY REASONS. ALTHOUGH THE TESLA IS ALMOST 5 YEARS OLD THE VEHICLE HAS JUST 23,170 MILES. SUSPENSION FAILURES SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING AT THIS POINT. THE TESLA SERVICE CENTER DID REPLACE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT LOWER FORE LINK ASSEMBLIES AS A GOOD WILL MEASURE SINCE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. .
THE TESLA'S LARGE SCREEN QUIT WORKING. THESE ARE CONTROLS THAT POWER OFF THE VEHICLE, TURN THE DEFROSTERS OFF AND ON ALONG WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL. CONTROL STEERING MODES. CONTROL BACK UP CAMERA, CONTROL LIGHTS. FROM THE READING I HAVE DONE IT IS CALLED THE MCU. IT PARTIALLY WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING, IT CAME BACK ON AND THEN IT DIED WHILE I WAS WORKING AND I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AFTER WORK.

MCU FAILED ON MY CAR. BLINKER SOUND WOULDN'T WORK AND THUS DIDN'T KNOW IF SIGNALS WERE WORKING OR NOT. AC/DEFROST WASN'T WORKING EITHER. DURING THE WINTER THIS WOULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM BECAUSE OF FOGGING. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. I PULLED OVER AND A RESTART OF THE MCU BROUGHT IT BACK TO LIFE BUT AM CONCERNED THAT THE DOCUMENTED WEAR-OUT OF THE EMMC NAND FLASH IS CAUSING MY MCU TO FAIL PREMATURELY.
THE TOUCHSCREEN FOR MY 2016 TESLA MODEL S HAS BECOME DEAD AND IS COMPLETELY BLANK. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT IT'S A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 'OLDER' TESLA MODEL S AND IT COSTS UPWARDS OF $2000 TO REPLACE THE MCU. I ALSO READ ONLINE THAT NHTSA HAS APPARENTLY STARTED AN INVESTIGATION ALREADY. PLEASE COUNT ME IN FOR ANY SUPPORT DOCUMENTS ETC NEEDED. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SUCH A EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR AN ELECTRONIC PART SUDDENLY DYING ON ME IN LESS THAN 5 YEARS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP!!!
THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT TESLA'S FIRST GENERATION MEDIA CONTROL UNIT (MCU). THE MCU IS THE BRAINS OF THE CAR AND CONTROL THE BIG CENTER SCREEN THAT THE TESLA MODEL S IS KNOWN FOR. WHEN IT FAILED NOT ONLY DID I LOSE THE ABILITY TO USE THIS BIG SCREEN BUT I ALSO LOST KEY SAFETY ITEMS SIGNALS, BACKUP CAMERA, CRUISE CONTROL, AUTOMATIC BREAKING, AND AUTO PILOT. ALL THE SOUND FEATURES ARE ALSO DISENGAGED AS WELL AND THIS WAS EVIDENT IN THE LACK OF SOUND FOR THE TURN SIGNAL AS WELL AS THE LACK OF SOUND FOR THE ALERT IF YOUR SEATBELT IS UNDONE. SPECIFICALLY IN REGARDS TO THE TURN SIGNAL FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU PUT THE TURN SIGNAL DOWN TO AS IF YOU ARE TURNING LEFT THE NOB WILL LOCK INTO THE DOWN POSITION LEADING YOU TO BELIEVE YOUR TURN SIGNAL IS WORKING BUT UNLESS YOU ARE OUTSIDE THE CAR YOU HAVE NO AWARENESS TO THE FACT THAT THE SIGNALS ARE NOT BLINKING. IN ADDITION TO THIS MY CAR LOST ITS CONTROL OF THE AIR CONDITION AND ANY MILLAGE TRACKING FEATURES WERE LOST. THE MCU COMPLETELY FAILED ON ME 3 TIMES. THE FIRST TWO TIMES IT CAME BACK AFTER A FEW HOURS AND THE THIRD TIME IT NEVER CAME BACK (WAS DRIVEN TO THE SERVICE CENTER AFTER 3 DAYS AND IT STILL HADN'T COME BACK). THE FAILED MCU ALLOWS YOU TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND YOU HAVE NO AWARENESS TO THE SAFETY FEATURES THAT ARE DISENGAGED. ALSO, ALL THE SENSORS ARE DISENGAGED TO ME THE USER WHICH STOPS THE CAR FROM ALERTING ME TO OBJECTS AHEAD, BEHIND AND TO EITHER SIDE OF ME. THERE ARE ENDLESS ARTICLES ABOUT THE FIRST GENERATION MCU FAILURES. THE CHIPS INSIDE THESE CARS ARE KNOWN TO FAIL AFTER A CERTAIN NUMBERS OF CYCLES AND TESLA HAS YET TO ADDRESS THIS KNOWN ISSUES LEAVING THE CONSUMER TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THESE ISSUES AND HOLD TESLA ACCOUNTABLE.

AFTER WE RETURNED FROM OUR SUMMER HOME, I TRIED TO DRIVE THE TESLA. THE MAIN SCREEN DID NOT LIGHT UP BUT I FIGURED THAT A NORMAL RESET WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. AS I DROVE, I ATTEMPTED A RESET BUT THE SCREEN REMAINED BLACK. I ALSO LEARNED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD NOT WORK INCLUDING THE CRUISE CONTROL, WINDSHEILD WIPERS AND HEADLIGHT HIGH BEAMS. WORRIED ABOUT OTHER PROBLEMS, I RETURNED HOME AND HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE. OVER THE SUMMER THERE HAD BEEN SEVERAL UPDATES TO THE CARS FIRMWARE AND I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE IMPROVEMENTS. PRIOR TO THAT. WE WERE DRIVING WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY, ALL WITH THE TESLA APP ON THEIR PHONES. THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE ON I-95 AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE SEAT HEATERS WOULD TURN ON AND OFF, THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK AND THE ENTIRE CAR SEEMED TO HAVE A MIND OF IT'S OWN. I ASKED EVERYONE TO TURN OFF THEIR PHONES AND THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARED. TESLA SERVICE SAID THEY'D NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING.
COMPUTER WILL HAVE DELAYED STARTING OR TURN OFF ON ITS OWN.

THE DRIVER'S DISPLAY PANEL WHICH DISPLAY THE SPEED AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE STATE OF THE VEHICLE IS BUBBLING AND MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO READ THE CURRENT SPEED. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS FORUM. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM, TELSA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM.
THE SCREEN DOES NOT TURN ON. MCU HAS FAILED. WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE REAR VIEW CAMERA, DEFROST FUNCTION(ESP WHEN RAINING, THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN WITH NOT HAVING VISIBILITY), CAN NOT TURN OFF AC(RUNS WHILE CAR IS OFF), REAR BACK UP CAMERA DOES NOT WORK. CAN NOT USE THE TESLA PHONE APP TO USE THE FUNCTIONS, CAN NOT SET CHARGING. RANGE. THE NHTSA HAS OPENED A INVESTIGATION IN JUNE 2020 AND IS ON GOING.
