EXCESSIVE RUST ON FRAME, SPARE TIRE ASSEMBLY RUSTED OUT, DEALER TRIED TO REPLACE TIRE CARRIER ASSEMBLY & WINCH BUT WAS UNABLE TO PUT SPARE IN NEW ASSEMBLY HOLDER BECAUSE OF THE RUST AND SAFETY HAZARD SAYING IT WILL FALL OFF. I WAS ADVISE OF THIS TODAY, APRIL 8, AT 3:00 PM. THE DEALERSHIP WAS GOING TO REPORT THIS TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA REP AND PUT THE SPARE TIRE INSIDE THE TRUNK OF MY SUV. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE 4RUNNER TRUCKS AND DEALER STATED IN THE PAST I HAD SUPERFICIAL RUST. I ALSO SEE THERE IS A PENDING CLASS ACTION SUIT AND TOYOTA SETTLE A SIMILAR SUIT WITH TACOMA AND TUNDRA TRUCK OWNERS FOR THE SAME RUST ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND I PUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIR TO KEEP IT RUNNING WELL AND TRYING TO KEEP IT SAFE. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A PENDING CLASS ACTION SUIT FILED WITH THE NHTSA AUGUST 17, 2018, PLAINTIFF WEINREICH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE CHANGING HIS BRAKES INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LINE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED OR DIAGNOSED. NO DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: DP18002 (STRUCTURE) WAS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER. THE CONTACT FEELS UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 208,140.
I JUST HAD MY 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER (85K MILES) SERVICED AT A-1 TOYOTA IN NEW HAVEN CT. MY CAR IS IMMACULATE AND SERVICED ON A REGULAR BASIS. AS A RESULT OF THE VEHICLE INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC IDENTIFIED FRAME RUST ISSUES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRONT FRAME.
JUST BOUGHT A 2006 4RUNNER AND DID NOT THINK TO CHECK UNDERNEATH FOR ANYTHING. I NOTICED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRAME HUGE RUST SPOTS, IT'S RUSTING FROM INSIDE THE FRAME OUT TO THE SURFACE. IT'S BAD. I GOOGLED WHAT I SHOULD DO TO FIX IT BECAUSE NOW I'M OUT 7K FOR WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A RELIABLE SUV. THEY SELL PATCH KITS ONLINE REQUIRING ME TO PURCHASE THE KITS AND HAVE THEM WELDED TO THE FRAME BY A PROFESSIONAL AFTER THEY CLEAN THE RUST COMPLETELY. THAT'S EXPENSIVE. TOYOTA SHOULD DEFINITELY TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY AND NOT FIGHT THIS CLAIM. NO TRUCK THAT YEAR SHOULD RUST THIS BAD. IN FACT I'VE BOUGHT A 77 CHEVY C10 THAT WAS A FARM TRUCK MOST IT'S LIFE AND IT DID NOT HAVE ANY FRAME RUST WHAT SO EVER. THERE'S MULTIPLE CLAIMS ON FACEBOOK AND OTHER 4RUNNER SPECIFIC GROUPS ONLINE THAT HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE. A RECALL NEEDS TO HAPPEN. WHAT IF I DIDN'T NOTICE AND I LET MY WIFE AND KIDS RIDE IN THE SUV AND THE FRAME SNAPS IN HALF DOWN THE HIGHWAY? YOU RECALLED OTHER MODELS DO TO FRAME RUST, BUT NOT THE SAME YEAR 4RUNNER. PLEASE HELP US 4RUNNER OWNERS FIX THIS BECAUSE ALL IN ALL IT'S A GREAT SUV TOYOTA MAKES SOME OF THE BEST PRODUCT OUT THERE, WE JUST WANT TO KEEP THEM ON THE ROAD.
VEHICLE'S SKID PLATE RUSTED COMPLETELY OFF. ORIGINAL OWNERS, ALL FAMILY MEMBERS, HAVE KEPT THE VEHICLE CLEANED WELL UNDERNEATH SINCE FIRST DAY OF OWNERSHIP. WHEN WE LIFTED THE 4RUNNER UP ON A LIFT, WE SAW MULTIPLE RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME AS WELL AS EXTREME OXIDATION IN THE CENTER AT CERTAIN PLACES. I NEED TO HAVE LOTS OF FRAME REPAIR DONE TO FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT.

THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER A SAFETY INSPECTION, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD FAILED THE INSPECTION DUE TO AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF CORROSION UNDER THE VEHICLE. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
Bought this 4Runner back in January of 2021 and when I took it to a mechanic I saw rust all over the frame and the spots of the frame where the welds are. The frame has no rotten out spots but it’s way too much rust for a car from 2006. The frames on these 4runners are notoriously known for huge amount of rust
I PUT MY 2006 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER LIMITED IN THE SHOP TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACED. THE SHOP CALLED ME BACK AND STATED THEY REFUSE TO WORK ON THE SUV BECAUSE OF THE EXTENSIVE RUST DAMAGE TO THE FRAME. THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT LEGAL ISSUES SHOULD THEY KNOWINGLY REPAIR A VEHICLE THAT IN THEIR OPINION WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL TANK STRAPS RUSTED AWAY FROM THE FRAME TO A POINT WHERE THE FUEL TANK WAS ONLY CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE BY THE SKID PLATE UNDER IT.
2006 4RUNNER REAR GLASS EXPLODED/SHATTERED AFTER USING DEFROST - WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT DESPITE THIS BEING A KNOWN ISSUE AND FAULTY DEFROST CONNECTOR. AFTER DROPPING MY 5 YEAR OLD SON OFF FOR SCHOOL ON 1/15/2021, I PULLED UP TO A STOP SIGN AND HEARD A LOUD CRASH FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND THE BACK GLASS HAD COMPLETELY SHATTERED AND PIECES WERE COMING OFF INTO THE BACK SEAT. NOTHING HAD HIT THE WINDOW FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE - THIS HAPPENED SPONTANEOUSLY. RIGHT BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, I HAD THE REAR DEFROST ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES TO CLEAR THE REAR GLASS WHILE DRIVING. THE DEFROST WAS OFF WHEN THE GLASS EXPLODED. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THIS HAD ENDED ON APRIL 30, 2018.TOYOTA RELEASED A TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) AND OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND FREE REPLACEMENT FOR VEHICLE OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM STARTING IN 2017 BUT IS SINCE EXPIRED. THE CONNECTOR FOR THE DEFROST LOCATED IN THE REAR GLASS IS FOUND TO BE FAULTY AND CAN SHORT OUT OR OVERHEAT, CAUSING THE GLASS TO SHATTER. BEING THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND THANKFULLY MY 5 YEAR OLD SON WASN'T IN THE BACKSEAT AT THE TIME, AVOIDING INJURY FROM THE GLASS, I DECIDED TO CONTACT TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. A CASE WAS OPENED, HOWEVER, THEY WOULDN'T OFFER ANY COMPENSATION OR ASSISTANCE WITH GETTING THE GLASS REPLACED. WE ARE WITHOUT A VEHICLE UNTIL THIS CAN BE REPAIRED AND I AM NOW FORCED TO PAY FOR IT ON MY OWN SINCE TOYOTA ISN'T AGREEING TO HELP AT ALL.
I HAVE A 2006 4RUNNER WITH NO RUST ON THE BODY BUT THE FRAME IS FULL OF RUST. ALL BODY MOUNTS HAVE RUSTED AWAY FROM THE FRAME CAUSING A WABLE WHEN HITTING BUMPS. I AM SO WORRIED THAT THE CAR IS GOING TO BREAK IN HALF AT ANY TIME. IT CAUSES UNUSUAL SOUNDS, CREAKING, SQUEAKING, UNUSUAL NOISES, BAD ALIGNMENT, UNEVEN WEAR IN THE TIRES, SUSPENSION, AND SHOCKS. ... FRAME IS VISIBLY BENT AND SEVERELY DAMAGED ... THE WORST THING IS THAT I CALLED TOYOTA FOR SERVICE AND THEY WON'T FIX MY FRAME... MY MECHANIC SAID THAT IS TOO FAR GONE TO FIX .. I'M NOT ABLE TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT BROKE OFF ON ME..
ON MY WAY TO THE GROCERY STORE, MY BACK WINDOW BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING. IT WAS A VERY LOUD POP! WHICH SCARED THE DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME! I LOOKED IN THE REVIEW-MIRROR AND THE BACK WINDOW COMPLETELY SHATTERED. THERE WAS NOBODY AROUND AND I WAS DRIVING TOO SLOW FOR IT TO HAVE BEEN A ROCK OR DEBRIS. I WAS DRIVING IN SAN ANTONIO TEXAS NEAR UTSA BLVD. IN THE TURNING LANE, WAS IN MOTION AT A SLOW SPEED AS I WAS PULLING UP TO A RED LIGHT. THE MECHANIC AT SAFELIGHT AUTO SAID THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE ELECTRICAL AND SAVED THE PIECE OF WHERE THERE WAS A SHORT CAUSING THE BLAST. AS I WALKED OUT THE DOOR, A GENTLEMAN ASKED IF THAT WAS MY TOYOTA AS HE WAS THERE FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE FOR THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL TOYOTA.
I EXPERIENCED UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION TWICE. ONCE WAS A MONTH AGO AFTER STARTING THE 4 RUNNER IN THE GARAGE. THE RPMS INCREASED AND AS I PUT IT IN REVERSE THE CAR ACCELERATED STOPPING ONLY AS A PUSHED HARD ON THE BRAKES. TODAY, 12-6-20, WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND AS I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE VEHICLE AGAIN ACCELERATED STOPPING ONLY WHEN I FORCEFULLY APPLIED THE BRAKES.
MY 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER, HAS CORROSION TO THE FRAME THAT IS NOT NORMAL FOR A CAR THIS AGE. THIS CAR IS STORED IN A GARAGE AWAY FROM THE ELEMENTS. THIS RUST TO THE FRAME MAKE THE VEHICLE SUSCEPTIBLE TO LOSING CONTROL DUE TO A RUPTURE OF THE FRAME. TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED IN THE PASS TO SUB STANDARD FRAMES IN THERE OTHER LINE OF VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota 4Runner. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25-35 MPH, the control arm detached. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the control arm was replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. Additionally, the contact stated that while a routine inspection was being performed on the vehicle, she was informed that the frame was corroded, and the vehicle was not drivable. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.
THE AREA HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE UNDER THE REAR BUMPER IS RUSTED SO BAD THAT A TIRE SHOP REQUESTED I HAVE A MECHANIC REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE DUE TO FEAR OF CRACKING PART OF THE RUSTED UNDERBELLY. MY SPARE TIRE IS INACCESSIBLE AT THE MOMENT.
FRAME ISSUE. CRACK MEASURING APPROXIMATELY 8 INCHES LONG WAS DISCOVERED WHEN A BRAKE SERVICE WAS BEING PERFORMED. CRACK LOCATION WAS LOCATED ON PASSENGER SIDE FRAME RAIL REARWARD OF THE CURVED SECTION OF FRAME WHERE IT MEETS THE STRAIGHT FRAME SECTION. TOYOTA MOTOR SALES WAS NOTIFIED AS PER OWNER'S MANUAL. NO SERVICE ADVISORY HAS BEEN FOUND ON THIS ISSUE. OWNED THIS 2006 4RUNNER FOR LESS THAN 1 YEAR, PAID $8000 FOR VEHICLE IT NOW IS JUNK. PLEASE NOTIFY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN, CITING POSSIBLE FRAME BREAKAGE AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF CONTROL AS THE RESULT. THANK YOU FOR THIS REPORTNG SYSTEM. POTENTIAL BUYERS SHOULD THOUROUGHLY HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC AND/OR CERTIED WELDER BEFORE PURCHASE. HOPEFULLY MY LOSS OF A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUT OF MONEY FOR PURCHASE, REMAINING LOAN AMOUNT AND REPAIRS DURING THE TIME OF OWNERSHIP WILL BE ENOUGH TUITION FOR OTHERS TO LEARN FROM THIS POORLY DESIGNED AND QUESTIONABLE STEEL QUALITY USED IN THIS VEHICLE. LOOK FOR SOMETHING ELSE. MY CHEVY SUBURBAN OF THE SAME VINTAGE HAS NOT HAD THIS KIND OF ISSUE.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota 4Runner. The contact stated that the undercarriage frame was rusted. The contact was made aware of the failure after replacing the exhaust pipe himself and taking the vehicle to the dealer to have the sway bar removed and replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CAR IS KEPT IN A GARAGE AND IS DRIVEN INFREQUENTLY. CURRENTLY THERE'S ABOUT 76K MILES ON IT. I RECENTLY TOOK IT IN FOR A MAINE STATE SAFETY INSPECTION AND IT WOULD NOT PASS DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME. THERE'S AT LEAST ONE HOLE BIG ENOUGH TO PUT YOUR FINGER THROUGH, AND THERE'S RUST FLAKING OFF THE REST OF THE FRAME. I'VE OWNED OTHER CARS FOR LONGER THAN THIS WITH MANY MORE MILES PUT ON THEM, THE RUST ON THIS FRAME IS BEYOND WHAT ANYONE WOULD EXPECT, AND IT'S A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD. I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR ANYMORE, AND I'M NOT SURE IF IT CAN BE PATCHED OR NOT. TOYOTA HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE FRAMES ON OTHER VEHICLES AND THIS ONE IS NO DIFFERENT.
JUST RECENTLY I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL IT "STICKS" TAKES ( WHEN DRIVING) COUPLE SECONDS TO RESUME IT ORIGINAL POSITION AND I CAN HEAR A CLICK. I AM TAKING IT TO MY MECHANIC TO ENSURE IS NOT CRITICAL. JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS. ALSO, SINCE APPROXIMATELY 2014 THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURE PAINT HAVE GRADUALLY BEING DETERIORATING TO THE POINT WHICH THE WHOLE BODY NEEDS A NEW PAINT JOB. SPECIFICALLY, THE PAINT HAVE COMPLETED FADED ON MOST PARTS OF THE BODY, THE CLEAR COAT IS COMPLETELY PEELING OFF. I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF IT, ONLY 125 K REGISTERED.
MY 2006 4RUNNER'S FRAME RUSTED SO BADLY THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARM DETATCHED COMPLETELY.
FRAME RUST HAS MADE 4 RUNNER BEYOND ECONOMICAL REPAIR. MANY PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED DUE TO RUST. ONLY 124000 MILES ON VEHICLE. RUSTED BRAKE LINES, STEERING COLUMN, TRANSMISSION LINES RUSTED. FORTUNATELY BRAKE LINES LEAKED WHILE VEHICLE WAS M NOT BEING DRIVEN AT THIS TIME, PARKED IN DRIVEWAY.
THERE IS A HOLE IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRAME RAIL WE'RE A/C DRAIN TUBE IS PRESENT. AFRAID TO CONTINUE DRIVING VEHICLE AND HAVE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. RUST IS APPARENT ON MAJORITY OF FRAME WHICH SEEMS TO BE FAILING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THIS WAS FOUND WHILE LIFTING VEHICLE TO REPAIR BRAKES.
THE REAR FRAME OF 2006 4RUNNER IS RUSTING AT EXCESSIVELY SPEED AND CORROSION IS COMING FROM INNER TO OUTWARD. WHEN THE VEHICLE TAILER HOOK IS ATTACH TO A TRAILER TOWING AT 5000 POUND(RATED FOR SUCH TOWING CAPACITY )THE FRAME COMPONENT MAY BREAK OFF BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE FRAME CORROSION.
IN PENNSYLVANIA, THERE IS A REQUIREMENT FOR YEARLY SAFETY INSPECTIONS ON ALL VEHICLES. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP IN JULY 2019 AND HAVE HAD LITTLE TO NO ISSUES WITH THE CAR. WE REPLACED THE EXHAUST (WHICH IS TYPICAL IN PENNSYLVANIA) AND A FEW SUSPENSION PARTS IN MAY/JUNE 2020, ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT OUR MECHANIC OBSERVED RUST TO THE FRAME THAT HE BELIEVED POSED A REAL DANGER TO OUR SAFETY. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK IN IN LATE JULY 2020 TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE THE FRAME ISSUE, AS THE YEARLY INSPECTION IS UP AT THE END OF AUGUST. OUR MECHANIC STATED WE COULD DO A REPAIR JOB OF $1,500, BUT ESSENTIALLY THE FRAME WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION NEXT YEAR. HE SAID THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, BUT THE FRAME IS A SAFETY HAZARD. WE GAVE OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER A CALL TO SEE IF WE COULD FULLY REPLACE THE FRAME AND WERE WILLING TO PAY FOR NEEDED REPAIRS. THE TECHNICIAN/REPRESENTATIVE IN THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT LET US KNOW THAT THE FRAME FOR THIS CAR HAS BEEN TOTALLY DISCONTINUED. HE STATED OUR ONLY OPTION WOULD BE TO HAVE IT CUSTOM MADE, SHIPPED IN FROM JAPAN, AND WOULD COST $7,000 JUST FOR THAT PART. LABOR WAS NOT DISCUSSED, AS THE CAR IS CURRENTLY ONLY WORTH THAT MUCH ACCORDING TO KELLY BLUE BOOK. ESSENTIALLY, THE CAR IS TOTALED DUE TO RUSTING ON THE FRAME THAT IS A KNOWN ISSUE IN SIMILAR TOYOTA MODELS IN THE SAME YEAR (ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE). I HAVE TRIED TO REACH OUT TO TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE REGARDING THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY SAY THERE IS NO SERVICES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME TO REPAIR THE FRAME ON THIS CAR. WE HAD BOUGHT THIS CAR UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECENT FRAME RECALL, IT WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE.
I WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY VEHICLE TO THE OPEN INVESTIGATION FOR 4RUNNER FRAME CORROSION (DP18002). MY 4RUNNER IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND RUNS BEAUTIFULLY, HOWEVER THE FRAME IS ABOUT TO FAIL.
THE ENTIRE FRAME IS ROTTED AND FULL OF HOLES . SUSPENSION IS IN DANGER OF DETACHING SPONTANEOUSLY. THE ODOMETER HAS BEEN ROLLED BACK OVER ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND.
MAJOR FRAME RUST. THE BODY IS STILL GREAT BUT WHEN YOU LOOK UNDERNEATH IT'S A DIFFERENT STORY. I CAN FLAKE OFF PIECES OF THE FRAME WITH MY FINGER. MY MECHANIC SAYS IT MAY ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF YEARS LEFT. I WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET THEIR OPINION ON THE MATTER.

I WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN MY BACK LEFT TIRE FRAME BROKE APART. THIS IS WHEN I NOTICED SEVERE RUST ON MY FRAME. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND I COULD HAVE BEEN A DEADLY CRASH. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND FILED CASE #2006012210 AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT QUALIFIED FOR THE FRAME TO BE REPLACED AT THEIR EXPENSE. THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT THE 2005-2011 4RUNNERS THAT SUFFER FROM CORROSION SO SEVERE THE WEAKENED FRAMES MAKE IT DANGEROUS TO RIDE IN THE SUVS. I AM LUCK TO BE ALIVE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE. DO THEY NEED SOMEONE TO DIE TO TAKE ACTION.
THE DEALER WOULD NOT INSPECT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF FRAME RUST. THE WHOLE FRAME HAS RUST OVER IT. THE PART THAT FAILED INSPECTION WAS THE END CAPS.
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER WITH MAJOR RUST ISSUES, INSIDE THE STRUCTURE OF THE FRAME IS FLAKING APART ALSO HOLE'S IN THE FRAME WHERE YOU CAN PUT YOUR HAND AND FEEL THE LAYERS OF THE FRAME COMING APART. THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE REAR ABS WHEEL SENSOR FAILS. THIS MUST BE A COMMON PROBLEM AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS PART. A WARNING LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DASH, IT ALSO PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM BEING PUT INTO GEAR. YOU HAVE TO USE THE OVERRIDE SWITCH TO PUT IT INTO GEAR.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER ON HIGHWAY WHEN FRAME BROKE BY REAR TIRE CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO THE MEDIAN. I HAD TOWED TOO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE WHOLE FRAME WAS ROTTED FROM RUST AND THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER DRIVE ABLE. WHAT? IT RAN LIKE A CHAMP AND AND I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. DID NORMAL MAINTENANCE LIFE WAS GOOD. THE ENGINE OUT LASTED THE FRAME. THAT IS JUST CRAZY APPARENTLY THE 2006 TACOMA, HIGHLANDER, AND TUNDRA THAT USED SAME FRAME WERE COVERED BUT TOYOTA SKIPPED THE 4 RUNNER. THE FRAME COMPLETELY SPLIT AND WAS CLOSE IN OTHER AREA. THERE MUST BE SOME RECOURSE.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 4 RUNNER ON THE HWY. THE FRAME COLLAPSED BY THE REAR WHEEL AND I LOST CONTROL AS THE REAR END WAS "WAGGING". TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THEY WERE NOT OPEN OR UP FRONT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEMATIC DEFECT THAT TOYOTA HAS TURNED ITS BACK ON. THE TACOMA, HIGHLANDER, AND TUNDRA MODELS OF SAME YEAR WERE NOTIFIED AND RECALLED. THE 4 RUNNER OWNERS NOT EVEN NOTIFIED, VERY LUCKY THERE WERE NO INJURIES. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND TAKE OWNERSHIP.
THERE IS SIGNIFICANT AND SUBSTANTIAL RUST ON THE FRAME OF THIS VEHICLE. THERE IS MORE THAN ONE HOLE EATEN COMPLETELY THROUGH THE FRAME, ALONG WITH TERRIBLE SURFACE RUST THAT HAS EATEN THE FRAME SO THIN THAT ANY LIGHT TAP CREATES A HOLE COMPLETELY THROUGH. THIS HAS ALSO RUSTED THROUGH THE FUEL TANK STRAPS, AND OTHER VARIOUS SUSPENSION POINTS. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AT TOYOTA TOLD ME THE VEHICLE IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO STAY ON THE ROAD, AND DID NOT WANT TO SERVICE THE TIMING BELT DUE TO FEAR THAT OTHER COMPONENTS WOULD EASILY SNAP OFF BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF RUST ALL OVER THE ENTIRE FRAME. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY SIMILAR TO MY 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA, AND SHARES SEVERAL RELATED PARTS AND PIECES. I AM FULLY AWARE OF THE RECALL FOR FRAME RUST ON THE TACOMAS, AND FORTUNATELY MY TRUCK WAS NOT DAMAGED. THIS VEHICLE IS TOO MUCH LIKE THE TACOMA TO NOT HAVE THE SAME CONSIDERATION OF HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. NO VEHICLE, MUCH LESS A VEHICLE ONLY 14 YEARS OLD SHOULD HAVE THIS BAD OF AN ISSUE, AND IT IS A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM IN THE TOYOTA ENTHUSIASTS COMMUNITY. THIS IS A NEWER VEHICLE FOR MY WIFE, AND NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE! FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW THERE WAS ANY ISSUES AT ALL. BUT AFTER SEEING THE RUST AND HOLES, THE RUSTED THROUGH FUEL TANK STRAPS, I AM SHOCKED, DISMAYED, AND ABSOLUTELY SCARED TO LET MY WIFE CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO REVIEW THESE CASES, AND SEE HOW THEY RELATE AS EXACTLY THE SAME SITUATION AS THE TACOMA AND TUNDRA FRAMES. I HAVE OWNED NUMEROUS TOYOTA VEHICLES THROUGH MY LIFETIME, AND TOYOTAS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITE AND ABSOLUTELY AMAZING VEHICLES FOR ME. THIS IS DEFINITELY OUT OF THE NORMAL SPECTRUM THAT I CONSIDER WHEN I THINK OF, AND BRAG ABOUT THE RELIABILITY AND ALL AROUND ENJOYMENT I HAVE IN AND WITH MY TOYOTA AND LEXUS VEHICLES. EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST. SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO FRAME RUSTING OUT
TURNED THE REAR DEFROSTER ON AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. TURNED OFF THE DEFROSTER AND THEN COUPLE MINUTES LATER, REAR WINDOW EXPLODED AND TOTALLY BROKE. DID THIS LEAVING MY NEIGHBORHOOD SO ONLY GOING ABOUT 20 MPH. IT WAS ABOUT 53 DEGREES AND RAINY.
THE DRIVER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON. I'VE READ A LOT OF RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE, BUT THE DEALER SAID THIS PART WAS NOT RECALLED. I WAS HOPING YOU COULD INFORM ME IF THIS PART HAS BEEN RECALLED AND IF SO WHAT WOULD BE MY NEXT STEPS.

THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON 01/26/2017 AND WAS DRIVEN IN UPSTATE NEW YORK UNTIL 1/1/2018 WHEN I RELOCATED TO MY CURRENT ADDRESS IN SOUTH CAROLINA FOR MY NEW CAREER. THE FRAME OF MY TOYOTA 4RUNNER IS SEVERELY RUSTING CAUSING THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE TO BE COMPROMISED AND CAUSING DANGEROUS DAMAGE TO STEERING, BRAKE, SUSPENSION, FUEL COMPONENTS THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE ON THEIR MOUNTING POINTS AND THROUGHOUT THEIR SYSTEMS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN START AND STOP TRAFFIC RETURNING TO HOME WHEN LEAVING A STOP LIGHT A LOUD THUD SOUND CAME FROM THE REAR PASSENGER CORNER OF THE VEHICLE, ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS MOBILE UNDER SPEEDS OF 30 MPH THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE CAUSE OF THE "FISHTAILING" HOWEVER SPEEDS OVER 30MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOWLY "FISHTAIL" AND WOULD AGGRESSIVELY GET WORSE UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS HOME AND PARKED I DISCOVERED THE MOUNTING PORTION OF THE VEHICLE REAR TRAILING ARM HAD RUSTED AND BECAME UNATTACHED RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNDRIVEABLE. ATTACHED ARE PHOTOS OF THE RUST DAMAGE TO THE REAR PASSENGER TRAILING ARM AND FRAME.
WHILE I WAS I DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED WHILE I WAS USING THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER. I SMELLED A BURNING SMELL JUST PRIOR TO IT EXPLODING GLASS ALL OVER THE BACK CARGO AREA
WHEN USING THE REAR DEFROSTER IN THE COLD, THE REAR HATCH WINDOW SHATTERED. COMMON ISSUE AND TOYOTA DOES KNOW ABOUT IT BUT ONLY OFFERED 1 YEAR ENHANCED WARRANTY. WARRANTY IS NOW EXPIRED AND TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THIS SAFETY HAZARD AS MY CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH 3RD ROW SEATING.
THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED EVERYWHERE THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ONE HUGE HOLE IS COMPLETELY BROKEN THROUGH BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME AND THE BOTTOM PLATE HAS CRACKED THROUGH. I HAVE A HIGHLY REPUTABLE WELDING SHOP SET TO REPAIR AND PATCH THIS BUT I FEEL TOYOTA NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THIS BEFORE IT COSTS ME EVERYTHING.
DID AN OIL CHANGE YESTERDAY, AND AS USUAL I DO AN INSPECTION ON MY UNDERCARRIAGE TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS FINE, (I.E. LEAKS, MAKING SURE THE SUSPENSION IS TIGHT, ETC) AND I AM NOTICING EXCESSIVE FRAME CORROSION, WHICH IS WORRISOME AS I KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON THE TACOMAS, TUNDRAS, AND SEQUOIAS, BUT NOTHING FOR THE 4RUNNERS. ITS STARTING TO GET PRETTY BAD AND I REALLY WOULDNT WANT MY FRAME TO FAIL AS THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I JUST WANT TOYOTA TO MAKE IT RIGHT LIKE THEY DID FOR THE OTHERS. I LOVE THIS TRUCK AND WOULD NOT WANT SOMETHING CATASTROPHIC TO HAPPEN
