TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND APPLIED THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE BEFORE CRASHING INTO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE.THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75708.
THE 4RUNNER PULLS TO ONE SIDE AND DOES NOT STOP AS QUICKLY AS IT SHOULD. THE PISTONS IN BOTH FRONT CALIPERS HAVE FROZEN UP TO SOME EXTENT. I HAVE CHECKED MANY FORUMS ON THE 4TH GEN 4RUNNERS AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I WENT TO THE DEALER WHY MY CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAN NOT A PROBLEM AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I PURCHASED REMANUFACTURED CALIPERS AND HAD THEM INSTALLED AND THEY ARE FREEZING UP AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER ACCELERATED ON OWN. RAN OFF ROAD, ACROSS MEDIAN AND CURBS, CRASHED. TOW DRIVER STARTED ENGINE AND ENGINE RACED, BUT ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN NORMAL POSITION. *TR
RE: 2006 TOYOTA 4-RUNNER. ON MAY 5, 2010, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING STALL. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY WENT FULL THROTTLE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE OVER A CURB, A MEDIAN AND ANOTHER CURB. IT THEN CRASHED THROUGH A WROUGHT IRON FENCE, A CHAIN LINK FENCE AND THE CEMENT BASE OF A BASEBALL FIELD LIGHT POLE. WHEN THE VEHICLE HIT THE CEMENT BASE, THE FRONT AXLE WAS BENT, SPILLING THE AXLE FLUID AND STOPPING THE ENGINE. THE CAR THEN REARED TO THE RIGHT AND CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF A BUILDING. POLICE REPORT CITES BRAKE AND OTHER DEFECTS. I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, IN REVERSE, WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV. I HIT THE BRAKES AND SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. IT REVVED AT ABOUT 4000 RPM FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN SLOWED DOWN TO A SPEED FASTER THAN NORMAL IDLE. I PUT IT BACK INTO REVERSE WITH BRAKE FIRMLY APPLIED, AT WHICH POINT IT RETURNED TO NORMAL PERFORMANCE. *TR
THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SEEMS TO BE ON TOYOTA MODELS. THE FRONT AND PASSENGER DOORS WILL OPEN IF ATTEMPTED TO OPEN DURING CAR OPERATION EVEN IF THE DOORS ARE LOCKED. *TR
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER (MILEAGE 66, 476 MLS). I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE VSC TRAC, CHECK ENGINE, AND CAR ANTI SKID LIGHT UP SIMULTANEOUSLY ON MY DASH. IT IS VERY CONCERNING BECAUSE I AM BEGINNING TO HEAR ABOUT OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE. *TR
"TIRE LOW" LIGHT GOES ON A LOT. THE FIRST TIME, I ACTUALLY HAD A FLAT. THE REST OF THE TIMES IT HAPPENED, I WENT TO THE TIRE SHOP, AND THEY SAID THAT EITHER ONE TIRE WAS A LITTLE LOW (NOT DANGEROUSLY) OR NONE OF THEM WERE. THIS IS ANNOYING BECAUSE THE LIGHT WON'T GO OFF BY ITSELF IF YOU FILL THE LOW TIRE -- SOMEONE HAS TO TURN IT OFF MANUALLY. ALSO, I TAKE THE VEHICLE OFF PAVED ROADS FAIRLY FREQUENTLY, SO I NEED TO KNOW WHETHER THERE REALLY IS A PROBLEM IF THE LIGHT COMES ON. *TR
2006 4 RUNNER SPORT EDITION, V8 WITH 30,000 MILES HAS CLUNKING SOUND WHEN STOPPING OR ACCELERATING FROM STOP. ALSO, WANDERS FROM SIDE TO SIDE AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
MY 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER BRAKES HAVE FAILED WHEN HITTING AN UNEVEN SURFACE- IE- POLE. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND RELEASED. THE WHEEL SPUN FREELY WITHOUT CONTROL. THE BRAKE DID NOT ACTIVATE. *JB
I WAS COMING INTO DEWITT ARKANSAS ON HIGHWAY165 ON 12/13/09 AT ABOUT 12:30PM WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL ON AT ABOUT 60 MPH. I TAPPED THE BRAKE TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN INTO AN EXXON MINI MART. MY 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AS I ATTEMPTED TO STOP NEAR THE FRONT DOOR. AS I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES I HEARD THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES CLICKING AND SUDDENLY THE 4RUNNER LUNGED FORWARD STRIKING A LARGE POLE THAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME. THE REAR WHEELS WERE SPINNING WILDLY AND THE BACK END WAS BOUNCING UP AND DOWN. THE 4RUNNER WAS BOUNCING TO THE SIDE AND I SLAMMED THE SHIFT LEVER INTO PARK. THE POWER TO THE BACK WHEELS STOPPED. I SAT BACK AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THEN I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING WIDE OPEN THROTTLE. I REACHED UP AND TURNED THE KEY OFF. I LOOKED AT THE FLOOR MAT AND IT WAS IN ITS NORMAL LOCATION WITH NO CONTACT WITH THE GAS PEDAL. THE TWO HOOKS WERE ATTACHED HOLDING THE FLOOR MAT IN PLACE. THERE WAS NO WAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED. TWO EMPLOYEES CAME OUT AND ASKED IF I WAS OKAY. I TOLD THEM I WAS OKAY, BUT SCARED TO DEATH. I TOLD THEM I HAD HEARD ABOUT TOYOTAS HAVING A SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM, BUT I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE INVOLVED IN ONE. I HAD TO WALK AROUND A WHILE TO CALM DOWN. I GOT THE EMPLOYEES NAMES AND PHONE NUMBERS IN CASE I NEEDED THEM. I WENT BACK OUTSIDE AND STARTED THE 4RUNNER UP AGAIN AND IT RAN NORMAL. I DROVE IT TO MY DAD'S AND LEFT IT THERE. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND HAD THEM COME PICK IT UP. THE DEALER HAD A LOCAL TECHNICIAN CHECK IT OUT. THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND SAID I SHOULD COME AND GET IT. I TOLD THEM THAT WAS UNACCEPTABLE. THEY HAD A REGIONAL SPECIALIZED FIELD TECHNICIAN EVALUATE IT. HE SAID THAT THERE WAS NO SAFETY HAZARD WITH MY 4RUNNER. THE DEALER WANTS ME TO COME AND GET THE VEHICLE. NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED OR REPAIRED.*TR
RANDOM UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ON MY 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER AFTER COMING TO A STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE IT WAS NEW AND SINCE IT DIDN'T OCCUR ALL THE TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A BREAKING IN PROBLEM AND WOULD GO AWAY. THIS IS NOT A FLOOR MAT OR STICKY GAS PEDAL PROBLEM - THE CAR BRAKES OKAY AND MY FOOT IS OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN IT HAPPENS. THE ENGINE GOES TO A NORMAL STOP IDLE AND THEN SURGES TO A HIGHER RPM ON ITS OWN. NORMAL ENGINE RPM AT STOP IS ABOUT 550, BUT DURING A SURGE IT JUMPS TO 1300 RPM AND DOESN'T GO BACK TO THE 550 RPM UNTIL AFTER I LEAVE THE STOP CONDITION OR TURN THE CAR OFF AND I RESTART IT. I'VE LEARNED TO BE CAUTIOUS AND ALWAYS PREPARED TO PRESS HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IF IT HAPPENS. I'VE JUST RECENTLY REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA ON THEIR WEBSITE AFTER LEARNING OF ALL THE OTHER UNINTENDED ENGINE ACCELERATIONS. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ENGINE COMPUTER CONTROL PROBLEM, NOT FLOOR MATS OR STICKY ACCELERATORS, AND SEEMS TO BE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING. I'M CONCERNED BECAUSE THE 4RUNNERS HAVE NOT BEEN MENTIONED IN THE RECALLS, AND NEITHER HAS THIS PROBLEM BEEN RECALLED AS IT IS RELATED TO THE ENGINE COMPUTER. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED, NOV. 2009, I WAS PULLING INTO MY GARAGE WITH THE ENGINE AT IDLE (550 RPM) AND IT SUDDENLY SURGED AND I HAD TO STOMP ON THE BRAKE HARDER TO KEEP FROM RUNNING INTO MY LAWN MOWER/BACK GARAGE WALL. MY FOOT WAS OVER THE BRAKE PEDAL AND I WAS COASTING INTO THE GARAGE AT THE TIME. *TR
OWN A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. NOTICED BELTS HANGING UNDER CAR ONE MORNING. OPENED HOOD AND THERE WAS OIL EVERYWHERE, THE BELTS WERE SOAKED AND HAD DETERIORATED. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. TOLD IT WAS A KNOWN OIL LEAK DEFECT NEAR CRANKSHAFT. HAD THE ENTIRE DRIVE TRAIN REBUILT AS OIL HAD DAMAGED EVERYTHING. COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. CAR ALSO LUNGES FORWARD WHILE STOPPED AT STOP LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, ETC. DEALERSHIP COULDN'T RE-CREATE SO NOT AN ISSUE FOR THEM. *TR
My 2006 4 Runner frame is rusting from the inside out. I first noticed this in 2009. I saw many rust spots in my driveway coming from the frame on a fairly new truck. At my next service I brought it up to the dealer Boch Toyota in Ma. They brushed it off as just normal rust from water dripping through frame. A few months lata in 2010 I looked deeper into the frame holes and could see a good amount of rust inside the frame rails. It was excessive rust for a fairly new truck. I brought it to the dealer ( Boch Toyota) few more times complaining of the issues I saw but Toyota didn’t want to hear it. It has been 11 years since then. The rust has made its way to the outside of the frame and had compromised the Integrity of the frame for some time now.
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER SR5 AND I AM HAVING VIBRATION PROBLEMS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ABOVE 60 MPH. I HAVE NEW TIRES INSTALLED, HAD THEM BALANCED TWICE IN ONE WEEK, AND STILL HAVE THE VIBRATIONS. THE VIBRATIONS BEGAN BEFORE I INSTALLED MY NEW TIRES. *TR
HIGHWAY MERGE RAMP AT ALMOST FULL THROTTLE TWICE, ONCE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY AT ALSO HIGH THROTTLE USAGE, ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK OPEN VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE FELT LIKE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED BUT WASN'T. I STEPPED ON BRAKES BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP, I THEN HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH MY RIGHT FOOT AND THE PEDAL WENT BACK TO NORMAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE VEHICLE HAS DUNLOP GRAND TREK TIRES, SIZE P265/65/R17. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL INSPECTION AND WAS ADVISED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES HAD DRY ROTTED. THE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER OF THE TIRES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 22,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE BRAKES FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY A MECHANIC. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RETRIEVED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTING AND DETERIORATED ENOUGH TO CAUSE A CRACK IN THE BRAKE LINE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 120,000.
I HAD A 2006 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER, LIMITED. THE BRAKE SYSTEM NEVER WAS RIGHT AND THAT IS WHY WE GOT RID OF THE CAR. AT A LIGHT, CAR WOULD CONTINUE TO INCH FORWARD. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND WHEN IT LURCHED FORWARD WHEN STOPPED IN A SCHOOL ZONE THIS PAST SPRING, WE IMMEDIATELY GOT RID OF IT, SINCE THE DEALER KEPT TELLING ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. *TR
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES TOO SENSITIVE. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, ESPECIALLY IF I HIT A BUMP WHILE BRAKING OR IF THE ROAD IS WET, THE ABS KICKS IN AND THE VEHICLE LOSES BRAKING POWER (WHILE BRAKE CALIPERS OSCILLATE VIOLENTLY) THEREBY DRASTICALLY INCREASING THE STOPPING DISTANCE. I'VE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THE VEHICLE STOPPING FROM 35 MPH IN OVER 200 FEET. I WOUND UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND MORE RECURRING. LOCAL DEALERSHIP WAS UNCONCERNED ABOUT THE DANGER AND CITED THAT THIS IS NORMAL. CERTAINLY, DANGEROUS ENGINEERING CANNOT BE ACCEPTED AS NORMAL IN THIS DAY AND AGE. INCIDENTALLY, THIS DOES NOT OCCUR ON OTHER MAKE VEHICLES WITH 4-WHEEL ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEMS. THIS SYMPTOM HAS OCCURRED OVER 100 TIMES, BUT THE DEALERSHIP ALWAYS MAINTAINED THIS TO BE NORMAL AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. *TR
WE WERE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC IN OUR 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. WE WERE SLAMMED INTO FROM BEHIND BY A CAR TRAVELING AROUND 45MPH. THUS WE SLAMMED INTO THE CAR INFRONT OF US. OUR AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND THE PASSENGER SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK UP, THUS CAUSING SEVERE INJURIES TO THE PASSENGER. THERE IS AROUND $11,000 DAMAGE TO OUR TRUCK. *TR
VEHICLE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY (RUNNING) WITH TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FULLY ENGAGED. VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF DRIVEWAY, ACROSS STREET, OVER CURB, AND DOWN A STEEP RAVINE HITTING A TREE. BROACHED LOCAL DEALER CONCERNING ANY SAFETY ISSUES OR VEHICLE PROBLEMS AND THEY INDICATED NONE HAD BEEN REPORTED TO THEM OR YOUR WEBSITE AND QUESTIONED CIRCUMSTANCES AS REPORTED. CUSTOMER PAID FOR ALL DAMAGES AND REPAIRS. *TR
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STOPPING AND RE ACCELERATING THE VEHICLES DRIVE TRAIN MAKES A "CLUNKING" NOISE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOUR TIMES AND THE DRIVE TRAIN HAS BEEN LUBRICATED FOUR TIMES. THE FAILURE NOISE GETS LESS NOTICEABLE FOR A WHILE AND THEN RETURNS AFTER THE LUBRICATIONS. THE NOISE IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. A TOYOTA TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THEY CAN OFFER NO REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000. RD THE CURRENT MILEAGE 30,000. RD
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE PUT THE SEATS DOWN ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE, THE SEAT BELT FELL APART AND THE CENTER ARM REST NEXT TO THAT SEAT BELT FELL AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT REPAIRS WOULD HAVE TO BE PERFORMED AT HER EXPENSE. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE AND ADVISED HER TO SPEAK WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY WHO ALSO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 66,000.
ABS SYSTEM FAILURE: 2006 TOYOTA 4-RUNNER LIMITED. IN FEB. 2009, I WAS DRIVING ON SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED, MY BRAKES LOCKED, AND THE CAR SPED UP INSTEAD OF SLOWING. I COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO STOP. INSTEAD OF HITTING THE LINE OF CARS IN FRONT OF ME I VEERED OFF THE ROAD THROUGH A SNOW BANK. THE CAR EVENTUALLY STOPPED AFTER TRAVELING ANOTHER ~100FT THROUGH 8" OF SNOW. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE (CAR WAS DRIVABLE AFTERWARDS). THE POLICE DID RESPOND AND A TOW TRUCK WAS NEEDED TO TOW MY CAR BACK ONTO THE ROAD. MY ORIGINAL TRAVEL SPEED WAS ~ 40MPH (BEFORE BRAKING). I SPED UP AFTER BRAKING, BUT I AM NOT CERTAIN OF THE SPEED WHEN I HIT THE BANK. TOYOTA RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND RECEIVED SEVERAL ERRORS. THE ABS WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE RELATED TO A LOW BATTERY I HAD 6-12 MONTHS EARLIER. THE LOW BATTERY SOMEHOW DEACTIVATED COMPONENTS OF THE ABS. I HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS EVEN POSSIBLE. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT A LOW OR DEAD BATTERY COULD RESULT IN ABS FAILURE I WOULD HAVE HAD THE SYSTEM CHECKED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE LOW BATTERY INCIDENT. TOYOTA FIXED THE ABS; HOWEVER, I STILL CONTINUE TO HAVE OCCASIONAL PROBLEMS. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN THE CAR IS AT REST, BUT NOT IN PARK, IT WILL SOMETIMES LUNGE FORWARD (NOTHING LIKE YOU HEAR ABOUT ON TV, BUT THERE IS DEFINITELY SOME TYPE OF POWER SURGE), THERE IS ALSO AN OCCASIONAL BUZZING NOISE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER AREA WHEN THE BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED (EVEN IN PARK). FINALLY, I HAVE DRIVEN SEVERAL SUVS AND SMALL TRUCKS. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE THAT WILL LOOSE TRACTION AS EASILY AS THIS VEHICLE LOOSES TRACTION. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG. I PLAN TO CONTACT TOYOTA TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE ABS ONCE AGAIN. I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO REPORT THESE ISSUES TO THE NHTSA OR I WOULD HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM A YEAR AGO. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA 4-RUNNER AFTER ABOUT 40,000 MILES WE STARTED EXPERIENCING A CLUNKING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH FORWARD WHILE TAKING YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP. I ADDRESSED THIS WITH MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND AT THE TIME THEY DIDN?T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. THIS PROBLEM PERSISTED FROM A ONCE AND AWHILE ISSUE TO DOING IT EVERY TIME. I SPOKE WITH ANOTHER PERSON WHO HAD A V8 AND THE SAME PROBLEM, TOYOTA FIXED HIS VEHICLE BY INSTALLING A NEW LEXUS DRIVELINE. ONCE I TOLD THE SERVICE CENTER ABOUT THEM FIXING A VEHICLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THEY EXPLAINED THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE DRIVELINE AND THE YOKE ON THESE VEHICLES. THEIR FIX WAS TO LUBE THE DRIVELINE ZERK FITTING. THIS WORKED FOR A FEW WEEKS, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. WE ARE WORRIED THAT THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY LURCH FORWARD AND EITHER HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE OR PEDESTRIAN. SINCE MY VEHICLE IS A V6 THEY CAN?T SWAP THE DRIVELINE LIKE THEY DID WITH THE V8. I DON?T WANT TO BE LIABLE FOR A HITTING SOMEONE WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS NOT PERFORMING CORRECTLY. MY VEHICLE DRIVE TRAIN IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT I CAN?T GET ANYONE TO SAY THEY WILL HONOR THIS ISSUE AFTER I PASS MY WARRANTY PERIOD. AT ABOUT 32,000 MILES MY TRUCK STARTED TO FEEL AS IF IT HAD BEEN REAR ENDED WHEN I WOULD STOP AT A STOP LIGHT. AT FIRST IT WAS VERY LIGHT, BUT IT HAS SINCE GOTTEN WORSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,998 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,105.

VEHICLE IS A POLARIS SPORTSMAN 800 THAT OPTION IS NOT AVAILABLE LATER IN THIS FORM SO I PUT TOYOTA. ON AUGUST 4 2007 I BEGAN AN ATV RIDE/CAMPING TRIP WITH TWO OTHER INDIVIDUALS THAT WAS PLANNED TO GO THROUGH 8/11. WE STOPPED FOR LUNCH ON DAY 1 AND AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I HEARD A STRANGE HISSING SOUND COMING FROM MY ATV. I REMOVED THE GAS CAP AT WHICH TIME LARGE VOLUME OF FUEL WAS EJECTED (LIKE A GEYSER) ABOUT 12-18" STRAIGHT UP. THANKFULLY I WAS STILL WEARING EYE PROTECTION BECAUSE THE FUEL SPRAYED MY FACE, HAND, ARMS AND TORSO. I INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT THE VENT HOSE LEADING FROM THE GAS TANK MUST BE CLOGGED OR PINCHED ALLOWING THE FUEL TANK TO OVER PRESSURIZE. I CHECKED THE VENT HOSE AND IT WAS CLEAR AND THEN POSITIONED IT SO IT COULD BE OBSERVED. THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP THE GAS TANK CONTINUED TO HISS AND BUILD OF PRESSURE AND FUEL WOULD CONTINUOUSLY LEAK, BUBBLE, SHOOT OUT OF THE VENT HOSE BOTH WHEN THE ATV WAS MOVING OR NOT. WHEN THE ATV WAS IDLING AND PRESSURE WAS BUILT UP, I WOULD SLOWLY RELEASE PRESSURE IN THE TANK BY SLOWLY OPENING THE GAS CAP THE ATV WOULD DIE. BROUGHT THE ATV TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE WOULD NOT OR COULD NOT FIX IT. I RELATED TO THE AUTHORIZED POLARIS DEALERSHIP THAT MY ATV IDLING IN THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT DOES NOT FAIRLY REPLICATE THE ENVIRONMENT THAT CAUSED THE FUEL PROBLEM. I AM PREPARED TO PROVIDE YOUR AGENCY WITH SWORN STATEMENTS FROM WITNESSES, PHOTOS, MORE DETAILED DATES, TIMES AND NAMES OF INDIVIDUALS I ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH AT THE POLARIS DEALERSHIP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. FIRST ISSUE: THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS A BUZZING THAT OCCURS WITH EVERY STOP, IT' IS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT IT ALTERS THE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE. SECOND ISSUE: WHEN HITTING A BUMP WHILE STOPPING THE BRAKE PEDAL LOSES PRESSURE. EXHAUST IS BEING PULLED INTO BACK WINDOW WHEN CRACKED AND THE VEHICLE RESETS THE AIR FLOW TO RECYCLE. I CRACK THE BACK WINDOW TO ALLOW HEAT TO ESCAPE AND HAD THE AIR FLOW SET ON FRESH AIR. I MAKE A STOP AND GET BACK INTO THE CAR THE WINDOW IS STILL CRACKED. SOME TIME LATER THERE IS A SMELL OF EXHAUST AND I REALIZE THE FLOW WAS RESET AND FUMES ARE GETTING PULLED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS MY CHILD IS IN THE BACK SEAT AND SHE IS ALREADY CHOKING WHEN THE ODOR GETS TO ME. *TR

AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT IN JANUARY OF 2007 I WAS DRIVING A 2006 TOYOTA 4RUNNER. I AM AWARE THAT THIS VEHICLE ISN'T IN THE RECALL LIST, BUT IT SEEMS HIGHLY POSSIBLE THAT MY ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN A RESULT OF THE ISSUES THAT ARE BEING BROUGHT TO LIGHT. YES! I'VE BEEN HAVING A STEERING PROBLEM. "UNINTENDED VEERING" THAT I BEGAN TO NOTICE A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE (THEN AT 13,000 MILES). SOMETHING IS CAUSING THE CAR TO WANDER AT HIGH SPEEDS. I ALSO BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT AFTER CROSSING A BRIDGE (A LOT OF BRIDGES ON THE WAY TO WORK) THE STEERING WHEEL WILL JERK BACK AND FORTH REALLY FAST, WHICH CAN BE FRIGHTENING. AT OTHER TIMES IT CAN SEEM TO PULSE. IF YOU LET GO OF THE WHEEL THE VEHICLE WILL VEER TO THE LEFT TOWARDS ON-COMING TRAFFIC (HAD IT ALIGNED TWICE -- STILL HAPPENS!) THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT NOTICE IT WHEN THEY DRIVE IT! SO I EVENTUALLY BOUGHT 4 BRAND-NEW TIRES AND HAD IT ALIGNED AGAIN (ALL AT THE DEALERSHIP AT MY EXPENSE) AND I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. ANYBODY ELSE THAT DRIVES THE VEHICLE NOTICES IT -- EXCEPT PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP! I WAS TOLD I WOULD LOSE $6,000 IF I RETURNED IT. I DID NOT, AS THAT WOULD SET ME BACK CONSIDERABLY. MY FATHER HAD JUST DIED AND I WAS PAYING OFF THE HOUSE TOO!
SOON AFTER PURCHASING MY 2006 4RUNNER V8 4WD I WAS PULLING MY BOAT AND NOTICED WHEN I WAS COMING TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND BRAKING THAT THE ENGINE WAS INCREASING IN RPM AND IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. HAD THE TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME NOT BEEN CLEAR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, OFTEN WHEN PULLING THE BOAT BUT NOT ALWAYS. I LATER REALIZED THAT THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS THE PROXIMITY OF THE GAS AND BREAK PETALS. WHEN I PULL THE BOAT, AND SOMETIME OTHER TIMES, I WEAR FLIP-FLOPS WHICH ARE FAIRLY WIDE AND FLAT. THE FLIP-FLOPS ARE WIDE ENOUGH TO ACCIDENTALLY BRIDGE THE TWO PETALS WHILE DRIVING. MY 2001 4RUNNER NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS ISSUE RECUR SINCE I STOPPED WEARING FLIP-FLOPS WHEN DRIVING THE 4RUNNER. THE ONLY REASON I AM REPORTING THIS IS THAT I HAVE READ OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION ISSUES WITH TOYOTA'S AND THOUGHT THIS INFORMATION MIGHT HELP THE INVESTIGATION. THIS PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE A SUDDEN ACCELERATION ISSUE SINCE THE RPM'S WENT UP AND THE BRAKES COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. I DON'T KNOW IF OTHER TOYOTA'S HAVE THE SAME PROXIMITY ISSUE BETWEEN THE BRAKE PETAL AND GAS PETAL. WE HAVE NOT SEEN THIS SAME ISSUE ON OUR 2004 SIENNA. *TR
