NHTSA:99-V-307-000: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. STEERING WHEEL SET NUT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN SUFFICIENTLY TIGHTENED,CAUSING STEERING VIBRATION AND LOOSENESS. CONSUMER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT RECALLED DUE TO VIN.*AK
VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL SUDDENLY ACCELERATES WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT AND CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE/DECELERATE UNTIL CRUISE CONTROL IS DISENGAGED. WHEN REACTIVATED, IT WORKS FINE UNTIL THE NEXT EPISODE. *JB
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING BRAKES LOCKED UP. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE STOPPED WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, THE ENGINE VIBRATES TERRIBLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES; THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES ESPECIALLY BAD WHEN IN REVERSE. THE PREVIOUS OWNER SPENT A LOT OF $$ TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. NOW, I'M SPENDING $$ TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I JUST HAD A TUNE UP, AND I WILL BE REPLACING THE TIMING BELT, FUEL PUMP, FUEL FILTER, PCV VALVE, DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR, TENSION SPRING, IDLER PULLY, AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE. I HAVE READ OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT THE TOYOTA DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL, BUT THIS IS NOT NORMAL VIBRATION BY ANY MEANS. *TR
THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE LOCKS FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO BE TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. *JB
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING VEHICLE ENGINE OVERHEATED, AND SHUT DOWN. IT WILL NOT RESTART. IDEALER IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *AK
TIRE SIDEWALL FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED. FAILURE OCCURRED ON INNER SIDEWALL. NO ABRASIONS OR OTHER SIGNS OF DAMAGE, JUST A 2-1/2" SPLIT IN THE SIDEWALL.
VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET. SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THERE WERE BEARINGS IN MY OIL PAN. THEY SAID THAT SLUDGE PROBABLY PLUGGED UP THE OIL FLOW. I CAN\\'T BELIEVE A SIX CYLINDER TOYOTA ENGINE SHOULD FAIL AT 110,000 MILES.
ENGINE OIL RUNS FROM BACK OF ENGINE. VAL COVER GASKET WAS REPLACED. CAN'T FIND OIL LEAKS, OIL SENDING UNIT REPLACED.SUSPECT OIL RUNNING FROM HEAD GASKETS.
POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING OUT. TOLD BY MECHANIC THE WHOLE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. DT
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT CONSUMER FROM BEHIND, PUSHING THE VEHICLE INTO THE CONCRETE BARRIER. TS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE HIT THE CONCRETE WALL HEAD ON. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *JG *JB
CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIVE FINE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. TS
ENGINE SEIZED WITH OIL STICK STILL SHOWING OIL. 1,000 MILES LATER TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. CAR STILL STALLED AFTER NEW TRANSMISSION. REPLACED DISTRIBUTOR CAP, NO LUCK. TIGHTENED LOSE IGNITION WIRE, NO LUCK. REPLACE IGNITION WIRE CONNECTION, FINALLY NO PROBLEMS. NOW I NO LONGER HAVE CONFIDENCE IN TOYOTA PRODUCTS.

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND NO WARNING THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND THE AIR BAG COULD BE INOPERATIVE IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT. DEALER NOTIFIED. TS
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND NO WARNING THE MOTOR BLEW AND NOW IT IS CAUSING OIL TO LEAK FROM THE VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
FROM A DEAD STOP CAR LURCHED WHEN GAS WAS APPLIED.ALSO, FRONT AND REAR ENGINE MOUNTS DISPLAYED FAILURE FROM METAL FATIGUE*AK
CONSUMER REPORTED TO THE DEALER THAT THREE OF THE DOOR HANDLES WERE BREAKING FROM THE SPRING THAT FLIPS THE HANDLE BACK. THE DRIVERS DOOR HANDLE BROKE AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. CONSUMER'S WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE DOOR HANDLE. *JG
I BRAKED AND SWERVED TO AVOID HITTING A METAL TANK THAT JUST FELL OFF A TRAILER IN FRONT OF ME, HIT THE TANK ON THE RIGHT FRONT, THEN DISCONTINUED BRAKING. THEN THE RIGHT FRONT, LEFT FRONT, AND RIGHT REAR TIRES COLLAPSED OFF THE RIMS. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR, SWERVED INTO THE MEDIAN/DITCH, CAR TURNED 180 DEGREES AND ROLLED BACK (ALMOST ROLLED OVER). CAR SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT BODY AND UNDERCARRIAGE DAMAGE. DUE TO SEAT BELT USAGE, MY PASSENGER AND I SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES ONLY. I WAS TRAVELLING 50 MPH ON A 4-LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY. WEATHER WAS 90 DEGREES, SUNNY, AND DRY. IF THE TIRES HAD NOT FAILED, I WOULD HAVE HAD MINOR BODY DAMAGE ONLY. COMPLETE DOT NUMBER IS BFRWTU410202.*AK
CONSUMER STATES OF HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH MADE HER LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING HER TO GET INTO A CAR CRASH .DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AS WELL AS THE MANUFACTORY AND THERE IS ALSO A RECALL OUT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THE MANUFACTURY STATES THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE HER VEHICLE BECAUSE OF WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTOR.
CONSUMER STATES THAT THREE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE WORN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED BY THE DEALER DUE TO METAL FATIGUE. AS A RESULT OF THE FATIGUE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR IS CRACKED AND IT IS NOW IN NEED OF REPLACMENT. THE ENGINE O RINGS WERE LEAKING AND WERE REPLACED. *JG
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH CONSUMER T-BONED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS DIDNOT DEPLOY. DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE INJURED, DEALER CONTACTED.*JB.*TT
WHILE DRIVING CIGARETTE LIGHTER POPPED OUT WITHOUT BEING ENGAGED. . CIGARETTE LIGHTER ROLLED BENEATH SEAT, DISTRACTING AND CAUSING SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE BURNS TO CONSUMER'S HAND. TOYOTA DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND INDICATED THAT WHEN VEHICLE GOT OLD SOCKETS AND THEY BECAME DEFECTIVE. *AK
AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP CONUSUMER HIT ON ACCELERATOR AND VEHICLE HESITATED TO GO. THEN, IT LOST CONTROL. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED.*AK
VEHICLE WAS INVOLED IN A REAR END COLLISON DUE TO ABS FAILURE. CONSUMER PHYSICALLY APPLIED BOTH FEET TO BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE PROBLEM. DEALER IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE CONSUMER WAS INJURED DURING THE ACCIDENT. *YH
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH DRIVER'S AIR BAG DEPLOYED AUTOMATICALLY. *AK THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND COVERED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE CONSUMER LOST HER VISION AND THE VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROADWAY AND INTO A DITCH, THERE WAS ONE INJURY. *YH
UPON STARTING VEHICLE BY PUTTING IT INTO REVERSE THEN BACKING OUT, WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE BACK INTO PARK, VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY WENT BACK INTO REVERSE ON ITS OWN. *AK THE VEHICLE WENT DOWN THE DRIVEWAY ON ITS OWN AND CAUSED AN ACCEDENT. *YH
WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY VEHICLE ROLLED DOWN SIDE, HITTING HOUSE. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK *JG
TRANSMISSION FAILURE: WENT FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE WITHOUT ENGAGING. TOYOTA - SPLIT TRANSMISSION COST - FINDINGS WERE METAL IN TRANSMISSION. FRONT AXLE: CV BOOTS WERE DRYROTTED AND WHOLE AXLE ON FRONT HAD TO BE REPLACED. 2 MOTOR MOUNTS BUSTED - CAR ONLY 6 YEARS OLD.
FAILURE OF TWO ENGINE MOUNTS, CAUSING SHIFTING OF ENGINE/TRANSMISSION. *AK
VEHICLE MANUAL SHIFT CLUTCH HAS FAILED. CONSUMER STATES THAT THIS HAS BEEN REPAIRED FOUR TIMES BEFORE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
AFTER LEAVING A PAVED ROAD AT 35MPH "DOUBLE FINE ENFORCED" CONSTRUCTION ZONE, WHEEL RESPONSE TO STEERING BECAME ERRATIC AND THE CAR VIBRATED, STEERING AND SUSPENSION CHECK OUT FINE, TWO TIRES HAS A BULGE AND TWO HAD CRACKS IN THE TREAD GROOVES, TIRE REPLACEMENT RECOMMENDED. ONE OTHER TIME A SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR IN A TIRE, RESULTED FROM A VALVE STEM EXTENSION MALFUNCTIONED.
IGNITION CYLINDER LOCKED UP CAUSING THE KEY TO NOT TURN IN THE CYLINDER, THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT BUT WAS DENIED. NLM
WHEN TRY TO START THE CAR, THE CAR TOOK OFF BY SELF. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL SUDDENLY "SPIKES" (UNINTENDED ACCELLERATION) WITHOUT WARNING.*AK
WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED IN MY 1995 6-CYLINDER CAMRY, IT CAN SUDDENLY AND FORCEFULLY APPLY THE ACCELERATOR, JERKING THE VEHICLE FORWARD AND BACKWARD BEFORE DISENGAGING AND NOT REENGAGING UNTIL THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO READ THE ERROR CODE AND ASSURED ME IT WAS NOT DANGEROUS AND REFUSED TO REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY. I SPOKE TO THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE AND HE TOO REFUSED TO AUTHORIZE WARRANTY WORK. I HAVE NOT USED THE CRUISE CONTROL SINCE AND HAVE ASKED TOYOTA TO RECONSIDER A WARRANTY REPAIR BASED ON RECENT DISCLOSURES OF CONCEALMENT OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *TR
CONSUMER THINKS IT IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE SHE IS ABLE TO REMOVE HER KEY FROM IGNITION WHILE IT IS STILL IN DRIVE.*AK TIMING BELT FAILED AND WAS REPLACED. *YH

DEALER, THOMASVILLE TOYOTA, THOMASVILLE, GA; PHONE# 229-228-0555 NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT IT WAS OKAY. ASKING NHTSA HELP IN THIS MATTER. ALL COMPONENTS OF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM HAVE FAILED. THE RACK IS LEAKING IN 3 PLACES, THE PUMP IS LEAKING AS IS THE HOSE. TOYOTA WILL NOT HELP PAY FOR THIS ($2500). WHY DID THIS SYSTEM FAIL IN ITS ENTIRETY ON A CAR THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY MAINTAINED? *AK
PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY AND TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED 4-5 TIMES. WHILE DISCONNECTED, KEY WAS RELEASED. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS PRIOR TO INCIDENT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH, VEHICLE STARTED KNOCKING AND LOST POWER, THEN IT STALLED. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED WHERE DEALER COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHAT WAS THE CAUSE, BUT THEY HAD FOUND METAL PARTICLES IN TRANSMISSION. *AK *SLC
FUEL TANK LEAKS FROM TOP, AND THE GASOLINE POURS ONTO EXHAUST PIPE. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
WHEN GETTING OUT OF VEHICLE ON DRIVER'S SIDE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE IN TWO PIECES. DOOR HANDLE ON PASSENGER'S SIDE BROKE ABOUT A YEAR OR TWO AGO. OWNER WAS ABLE TO GLUE THAT HANDLE TOGETHER. DRIVER IWAS NOT ABLE TO GLUE DRIVER'S SIDE HANDLE.*AK
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER TO HAVE STEERING REPAIRED UNDER RECALL 99V307000. DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PART IN STOCK. CONSUMER WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE 2 MONTHS TO GET VEHICLE REPAIRED. *AK
NORMAL OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE TRUNK LID HAS CAUSED THE BACKUP WARNING LIGHT WIRING HARNESS TO BE WARN AND SEVERED, RESULTING IN FAILURE OF BACKUP LIGHTS. *NLM
GOODYEAR INVICTA TIRES P195/75R14 EXPERIENCING CUPPING AND UNEVEN WEAR, WHICH CAUSES A NOISE WHILE DRIVING, TIRES WERE REPLACED. FAULTY SENDING UNIT, CAUSING GAS GAUGE TO ALWAYS REGISTER 3/4 TANK FULL. *SLC
