THE OUTSIDE PLASTIC PART OF THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE SNAPPED OFF IN MY HAND THIS MORNING. I CUT MY FINGER ON THE METAL UNDER THE PLASTIC COVERING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE GEAR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THEY REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION AT HIS EXPENSE. HE LATER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS NOT VALID AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. COMPLAINT 1010212163 WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
I WAS DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER IN MY 2000 CAMRY. I SLOWED DOWN ANTICIPATING TO COME TO A STOP AT A T IN THE ROAD, THAT HAD A STOP SIGN. AFTER PUSHING ON MY BRAKES, IF FELT LIKE THE MOTOR WAS FIGHTING AGAINST THE BRAKES AND PUSHING ME FORWARD. I PUT ALL THE PRESSURE I COULD ON THE BRAKES AND IT KEPT INSISTING TO GO FORWARD. I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD APPROPRIATELY, SLOWED DOWN AHEAD OF TIME FOR THE STOP SIGN, BUT STILL ...THE CAR DID NOT STOP UNTIL IT WENT THROUGH WELL PAST THE STOP SIGN, ACROSS THE TWO LANE ROAD AND FINALLY STOPPED JUST BEFORE A CLIFF. LUCKILY THE CAR THAT WAS COMING ON THE ROAD THAT I CROSSED, SAW THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND STOPPED WHILE MY CAMRY CROSSED RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS CAR. VERY SCARY. *TR
1. SUDDEN ACCELERATION ON 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY IN NOV. 2009. WHEN IT WAS IN DE-ACCELERATION AFTER TAKING AN EXIT IN EWING NJ, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED LIKE A WILD HORSE, I TOTALLY LOST CONTROL AND THE CAR CROSSED A RED LIGHT, FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO COLLISION OCCURED AND THE CAR WAS UNDER CONTROL FINALLY. 2. ACCELERATION PEDAL STICKING: SOMETIME WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED, IT DOES NOT MOVE, A BIG FORCE NEEDS TO BE APPLIED TO THE GAS PEDAL IN ORDER TO MOVE THE PEDAL AND START ACCELERATION. IT USUALLY CAUSE OVER SHOOTING. *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY LIMITED EDITION. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LANES ON HER LEFT, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SPINNING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE ENGINE REVVED LOUDLY AND AS SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. WHILE IN THE DITCH, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO IDLE AND THE TIRES BURROWED INTO THE DITCH AS IT ATTEMPTED TO PROGRESS. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER HEAD, SHOULDERS, UPPER BACK, HANDS, FINGERS, KNEES AND NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS OVER 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, SHE ATTEMPTED TO MERGE INTO THE RIGHT LANE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO BOUNCE FROM OFF THE GROUND AND SPIN. THE VEHICLE THEN FLIPPED TWICE AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL TO TREAT INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
I OWN A 2000 CAMRY (LE) WHICH I PURCHASED NEW FROM FAIRFAX TOYOTA IN FAIRFAX VA IN NOVEMBER OF 1999, AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH MY ACCELERATING STICKING, WHEN I PUSH ON IT. I IT TO THE DEALERSHIP A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. I BELIEVE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A CABLE. I AM CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR MY REPAIR BILL WHERE I PAID FOR THE CABLE REPLACEMENT. ON SEPT. 14, 2009 I WAS BACKING UP IN A PARKING LOT, TO LET ANOTHER VEHICLE PASS. MY CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN MOVING BACKWARD VERY RAPIDLY AND SMASHING INTO OTHERS VEHICLES AND A CHILD. I WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN AN AMBULANCE BECAUSE MY NECK WAS HURTING. I DID NOT RECEIVE A TICKET FROM THE ATTENDING POLICE OFFICER, AS SHE DID NOT FEEL I DID ANYTHING NEGLIGENT. THE CAR WAS TOTALED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR IN FOR REQUIRED SERVICING AND REPORTED TO THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THE GAS PEDAL WAS STICKING. THIS IS NOTICED AFTER I HAVE STOP AND THEN STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL TO GO. THE GAS PEDAL STICKS ON THE TOP SO THERE IS A JERKING ACTION WHEN I START OFF. I HAVE PAID CLOSE ATTENTION TO HOW CLOSE I STOP BEHIND OTHER AUTOS SO THAT I DO NOT HIT THEM IN THE REAR IF IT JERKS WHEN I TAKE OFF. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN AFTER EVERY STOP. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED I GO TO A RETAIL STORE TO PURCHASE SILICONE GREASE TO PUT ON THE ACCELERATOR. I HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT REMOVE THE FLOOR MAT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. I DO NOT HAVE THE VIN WITH ME AT THIS TIME BUT I CAN SUPPLY IT IF NEEDED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE LATCH WOULD NOT MANUALLY UNLOCK OR OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OR INSIDE. THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK WAS THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. THE MECHANIC REPAIRED THE DOOR HANDLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE LOCK ACTUATOR WHICH IS A MECHANICAL DEVICE ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR. THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. MY CAR IS PARKED IN AN ASSIGNED GARAGE SPACE IN AN APT. BLDG. IN MAKING MY USUAL EXIT MY GAS PEDAL STUCK AND MY CAR STRUCK PILLARS, WALLS AND A NEIGHBOR'S CAR. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL. I THOUGHT I HIT THE GAS PEDAL INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE--DID NOT REALIZE THAT THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK UNTIL I SAW TV AND NEWSPAPER ACCTS. OF THE TOYOTA CAMRY RECALL. THE YEARS LISTED IN THE RECALL WERE NOT COMPLETE. MY CAMRY IS 2000, NOT THE YEARS OF 2007-2010 LISTED IN THE RECALL $3000 REPAIRS--4 DAYS--NEEDED FOR MY CAR. NEIGHBOR'S REPAIRS PAID FOR BY MY INSURANCE. *TR
2000 CAMRY LE, 4 CY ACCELERATES GOING DOWN HILLS. IT SEEMS TO THIS DRIVER THAT ACCELERATOR GOING DOWN HILLS FOR THIS MODEL IS TOO RAPID. FOR EXAMPLE, WHILE DRIVING ON NARROW MOUNTAINOUS CURVE IN 2009, I HAD PROBLEMS HOLDING THE CAR STEERING WHEEL STEADY AND WAS FORCED TO SUDDENLY BRAKE HARD SO THAT THE CAR DID NOT GO OVER THE STEEP MOUNTAIN RIDGE THAT MOST PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED MY DEATH, AS WELL AS THE PASSENGERS WHO WERE IN THE CAR. THE LAST ACCELERATOR PROBLEM OCCURRED IN 2009; HOWEVER, EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THE 2000 TOYOTA, I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WHENEVER I WENT UP AND DOWN HILLS. THE 4 CYLINDER ACCELERATOR DID NOT SUPPORT GOING UP HILLS, BUT SPEED GOING DOWN HILLS WAS SUCH THAT I HAD TO BRAKE HARD MANY TIMES AND WAS FORCED TO HOLDING STEERING WHEEL STEADY SO THAT ACCIDENTS DID NOT OCCUR. IN VIEWING YOUR WEBSITE AND PROBLEMS OCCURRING WITH THE 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY LE, I FOUND 438 COMPLAINTS HAD BEEN FILED. *TR
WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE IN A STRIP-MALL, MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, JUMPED THE CURB, CROSSED A 2-LANE ROAD, JUMPED ANOTHER CURB, CROSSED A 6 FOOT SIDEWALK AND RAN INTO THE FRONT OF A STORE, COMPLETELY DESTROYING THE WALL, WINDOW, AND FRONT DOOR OF THE STORE, APPROX. 12 FEET WIDE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE COMING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. SHE WOULD CONTINUE TO TAP ON THE PEDAL WITH HER FOOT UNTIL IT WOULD MOVE BACK INTO THE IDLE POSITION. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THERE WERE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, EXACT REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN TO THE CONTACT. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED AS WELL, HOWEVER THE FAILURE PERSISTED. TO DATE, THE FAILURE PERSISTS AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 155,694.
TOYOTA CAMRY 2000: INTERMITTENT AND UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION OF VEHICLE (LURCHING FORWARD) EITHER JUST BEFORE, DURING, OR JUST AFTER APPLYING SUBTLE PRESSURE TO BRAKE PEDAL. ISSUE TYPICALLY OCCURS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WHEN: - ATTEMPTING TO SLOW VEHICLE'S FORWARD MOTION IN RESPECT OF POSTED SPEED LIMITS - APPROACHING STOP SIGNS OR RED TRAFFIC SIGNALS, OR - SWITCHING BETWEEN BRAKING AND ACCELERATION IS REQUIRED (ROAD CURVES, SPEED BUMPS, PARKING LOTS, ETC.). NO ACCIDENTS OR SPECIFIC INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM THAT I AM AWARE OF. I FIRST DISCOVERED THE ISSUE DRIVING MY MOTHER'S CAMRY WHILE VISITING HER IN FLORIDA. BECAUSE THE NHTSA REQUIRES INCIDENT-SPECIFIC INFORMATION TO COMPLETE THIS FORM, I SELECTED A DATE IN EARLY JUNE 2009 WHEN I FIRST BECAME AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MILEAGE REPORTED IS APPROXIMATE. NOTE: ALTHOUGH I DO NOT TYPICALLY DRIVE THIS PARTICULAR CAR, I HAVE OWNED TWO TOYOTAS AND CURRENTLY DRIVE A 2006 PRIUS. I BELIEVE THAT THIS ANOMALY IS WORTH REPORTING, GIVEN THAT TOYOTA'S CURRENT RECALL OF ITS VEHICLES FOR VERY SIMILAR ISSUES HAS NOT YET ADDRESSED THESE ISSUES FOR OLDER MODELS. *TR
2000 TOYOTA CAMRY - 68,400 MILES. SOUNDED LIKE ENGINE HAD DIFFICULTY GETTING AIR. HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM FIREWALL AREA OF ENGINE. GAS MILEAGE WENT FROM 450 MILES PER TANK TO 200 MILES PER TANK. GARAGE REPLACED AIR FUEL SENSOR. PROBLEM RESOLVED. *TR

THE VEHICLE STRUCK A LAMP POST AND WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO LOT. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS FAILURE OCCURRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY SENT AN ADJUSTER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE INSURANCE COMPANY'S POSSESSION. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT MY BRAKES ON MY SOLAR 2000, THE DEALER SHIP HERE IN RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA THEY WILL LAUGH AT ME, THEY DON'T DO ANY THING . I TELL PEOPLE IF ANY THING HAPPENS TO ME IN MY VEHICLE IT WILL BE BECAUSE OF THE BRAKES. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH INTO A PARKING SPACE THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH HIT A PERSON AND FRACTURED THEIR LEG. THE INJURED WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THIS FAILURE AND THOUGHT IT WAS OPERATOR ERROR. SINCE THE NEWS WAS RELEASED REGARDING THE STICKY PEDAL RECALL THE CONTACT IS CERTAIN THAT THE STICKY PEDAL COULD HAVE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHENEVER THE CONTACT WOULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED SHE NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STICKING TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT HAS TO PUMP THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE PEDAL TO STOP STICKING AND AT THE SAME TIME THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 180000.
ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON 4/17/09 WHEN I TRIED TO PUT MY 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY IN THE PARK POSITION. THE CAR TOOK OFF HITTING TWO WALLS, ONE CAR, ONE SUV AND THEN CRASH IN A WALL. AT NO TIME DURING THE IMPACT DID THE AIR BAG DEPLOY. THE CRASH RESULTED WITH THE STEERING WHEEL IMPACTING MY CHEST CAUSING CHEST TRAUMA AND PAIN. THIS RESULTED IN A HOSPITAL STAY OF 5 DAYS AND A HOSPITAL BILL OF $25,000. MY VEHICLE WAS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED AND WRITTEN OFF BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS WITH THE IMPACT OF THE ACCIDENT AND THE DAMAGE CREATED THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY TO PROTECT ME FROM MAJOR INJURY. *TR
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND OFF FOR OVER 2 YEARS. I HAVE HAD BOTH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS REPLACED, A NEW GAS CAP AND EVERY OTHER ISSUE THE GARAGES HAVE TOLD ME ARE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. WITH EACH FIX THE LIGHT GOES OFF FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN COMES BACK ON. TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS ALWAYS TELL ME IT IS BECAUSE I DO NOT TIGHTEN MY GAS CAP, BUT I TIGHTEN IT UNTIL IT CLICKS. I AM NOT LOSING ANY MILEAGE WITH THE LIGHT ON OR HAVING ANY OTHER DIFFICULTIES WITH CAR, BUT I CAN NOT PASS THE EMISSION TEST WITH THE LIGHT ON. I FEEL THAT THE LIGHT IS ON BECAUSE OF A GLITCH IN THE SYSTEM OR A DEFECT, BECAUSE I AM NOT EXPERIENCING ANY OF THE NORMAL PROBLEMS THAT COME WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. *KB

THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 52000.
BOUGHT MY USED 2000 CAMRY IN AUG, 2008. A FEW MONTHS LATER, GAS PEDAL STARTED STICKING WHEN I APPLY PRESSURE TO ACCELERATE AFTER MAKING A STOP. SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I MAKE A STOP IN A GIVEN DAY. OTHER TIMES, WHEN I'M OUT AND ABOUT, IT DOES NOT STICK WHEN I ACCELERATE. I HAVE TO GIVE IT A LITTLE PUSH TO ACCELERATE FROM THE STOPPED POSITION. HAPPENS ABOUT 70% OF THE TIME. MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IF IT'S WINTER OR SUMMER. *TR
THE GAS PEDAL HAS A SPOT THAT STICKS WHEN YOU DEPRESS IT. IF YOU PUSH QUICKLY OR SORT OF "SMACK" THE PEDAL WITH YOUR FOOT, YOU CAN GET PAST THE STICKING SPOT. ANOTHER DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO ENTER HIS LANE AND HE SWERVED INTO THE FAR RIGHT LANE TO AVOID BEING STRUCK LOSING CONTROL WENT OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE LEFT THE ROAD AT APPROX 70 MPH, WENT AIRBORNE, LANDED STRAIGHT DOWN THEN DID AN END TO END FLIP APPROX 20 YDS OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO THE WOODS, COMING TO REST UPSIDE DOWN. HE WAS DRIVING A 2000 TOYOTA SOLARA SE, VINE #. HE WAS WEARING HIS SEATBELT; HOWEVER, THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. HE SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES, BUT NOTHING REQUIRING HOSPITALIZATION. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING BACK HOME ON THE TURNPIKE. THE FRONT LEFT TIRES TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE CORE AND ALMOST CAUSED A SERIOUS 2-CAR ACCIDENT. THE TREAD DAMAGED OUR CAR. NO ONE WAS HURT AND THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO OUR CAR. THE BAD TIRE DID NOT GO FLAT; IT JUST LOST ALL OF ITS TREAD. I CONTACTED BRIDGESTONE AND USED THEIR PROCEDURE TO CLAIM DAMAGES. I GOT ALL THE ESTIMATES AND SHIPPED THE TIRE TO THEM FOR EXAMINATION. THEY SENT ME A FORM LETTER STATING THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF "OVER DEFLECTION" AND DENIED ANY COMPENSATION. OVER DEFLECTION IS AN UNDER INFLATED TIRE. MY TIRE WAS NOT UNDER INFLATED. I KEPT DETAIL RECORDS OF THE ENTIRE SET OF TIRES. I CHECK INFLATION REGULARLY AND I NEVER LET A CAR LEAVE TOWN WITHOUT CHECKING THE INFLATION. ALL 4 TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATED. I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE TIRES (EVEN THOUGH ALMOST HALF THE TREAD WAS STILL LEFT ON THE OTHER 3 TIRES). I REQUESTED THAT THEY SEND ME THE OFFENDING TIRE BACK TO ME--WHICH THEY DID. ON THE INTERNET THERE ARE OTHER STORIES OF TREAD SEPARATING FROM BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE TIRES. PEOPLE CONTACT THEM FOR DAMAGE REIMBURSEMENTS AND THEY RECEIVED THE SAME FORM LETTER ABOUT "OVER DEFLECTION". WHAT COURSE DO WE HAVE? AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT WHERE I WORK, I STOPPED AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO LET ANOTHER CAR PASS ME AND THEN INTO REVERSE TO BACK UP AND STRAIGHTEN OUT IN THE PARKING SPOT. WHEN I DID I COULD FEEL THAT THE SHIFTER WAS NO LONGER CONNECTED TO THE TRANSMISSION, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD PUT THE CAR IN PARK FIRST SO IT WOULDN'T ROLL. IT IS VERY STRONG. IT JUST DOESN'T BREAK. WHEN I ORDERED THE PART FROM THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING AGAIN. HE ALSO SAID THE HE HAS NEVER EVEN HEARD OF ONE BREAKING! ACCIDENT WAS A HEAD-ON COLLISION INTO A PARKED CAR AT 35-40 MILES PER HOUR. CAR WAS A 2000 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. I , THE DRIVER HAVE A PERMANENT CRUSHED LARYNX PAIN FROM BROKEN CHEST BONES AND PERMANENT SMASHED FEET FROM SEAT BREAKING LOOSE AND ME BEING SHOVED UNDER THE DASHBOARD.. 48 HOSPITAL OBSERVATION AND WEEKS OF FOLLOW UP REPORTED NO SEIZURES. BLOOD TESTS SHOWED NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS WERE INVOLVED. LAST PREVIOUS SEIZURE PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT WAS SOME 5 YEARS PRIOR. I NOW HAVE PERMANENT LEG AND /FOOT DAMAGE AND MUST WALK WITH A WALKER AND CANNOT WEAR REGULAR SHOES, NOR CAN SIT FOR MORE THAN 1 HOUR AND HAS TO SLEEP IN A RECLINER DUE TO THE PAIN AND INABILITY TO BREATH LYING DOWN IN A BED. LIVES ALONE (AGE 77) TOYOTA CLAIMS REFUSES ANY RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE CAR INSURER TOTALED CAR BEFORE TOYOTA COULD INSPECT TO SEE THE USED AIRBAGS, FRONT SEATS BLOOD AND CUT AWAY SEAT BELTS TO GET PERSONS INTO AMBULANCES. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH ALMOST RESULTED IN A CRASH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VALVE STEM ON THE TIRE CRACKED AND WAS DETERIORATING. SECONDLY, HE STATED THAT THE VALVE STEMS ON ALL FOUR TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE; THEREFORE, ALL FOUR TIRES AND VALVE STEMS WERE REPLACED. HE CALLED THE DISTRIBUTOR OF THE EQUIPMENT AND A REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, AND WOULD REPLACE ANY VALVE STEMS IF THE CONSUMERS WERE EXPERIENCING FAILURES. IN JULY 2004, I PURCHASED A SET OF TIRES (KELLY SPRINGFIELD EXPLORERS). ONE OF THE TIRES HAS DETERIORATED TO THE POINT WHERE THE STEEL REDIALS ARE PROTRUDING FROM PARTS OF THE RUBBER. ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER SPECS, THE TIRES ARE RATED 40,000 MILES. HOWEVER, THIS PARTICULAR TIRE HAS LASTED FOR ONLY 16,754 MILES BEFORE ITS DETERIORATION. ULTIMATELY, I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE SET. MY TOYOTA CAR SERVICER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO APPARENTLY SAID THAT TOO MUCH TIME HAD PASSED TO COMPENSATE ME FOR OBVIOUSLY INFERIOR WORKMANSHIP. THE CAR IS A 2000 CAMRY AND IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. I PURCHASED A ONE YEAR SERVICE POLICY. AFTER A FEW YEARS I GOT A FACTORY RECALL TO REPLACE SOMETHING IN THE FRONT END - THE STRUTS I BELIEVE. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR SERVICED WITHOUT FAIL ON SCHEDULE WITH LUBS, TIRES, BALANCING, AND INSPECTIONS BY THE LOCAL DEALER AND NOTHING WAS EVER FOUND IN THE LEFT FRONT END. I CHECKED THE WEB AND IT SEEMS THOUSANDS OF US CAMRY DRIVERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I RECOMMEND TOYOTA CALL BACK THESE VEHICLES TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THE OWNERS. *TR
ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO (2008), WHEN STARTING OFF FROM SAY A STOP LIGHT, I WOULD PRESS THE GAS PEDAL & NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN FOR A SECOND OR TWO, THEN THE CAR WOULD JERK AHEAD. I WENT TO MY MECHANIC TWO YEARS AGO TO REPORT THAT MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2000 HAD AN ACCELERATOR STICKING PROBLEM. THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM, ASSUMED IT WAS THE MAT, OR MY IMAGINATION. IT WASN'T. THE CRASH IMPACT JAMMED THE DRIVER'S DOOR PREVENTING IT FROM OPENING, TRAPPING ME IN THE CAR WITH SMOKE POURING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. INITIALLY THE ELECTRIC WINDOW WOULD NOT OPEN BUT FINALLY DID ALLOWING ME TO EXTRICATE MYSELF FROM THE DAMAGED VEHICLE. *TR
