There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to her residence. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 72,000.
BRAKE PEDAL IS "STUTTERING" AT QUICK STOPS. WHEN TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNS YELLOW AND I PRESS DOWN BRAKE FIRMLY, THE BRAKE WORKS, THEN RELEASES BY ITSELF. I HAVE TO QUICKLY PRESS IT AGAIN TO ACTUALLY STOP VEHICLE. THIS "STUTTER" CAUSES THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD A FEW FEET. IT'S A BIT SCARY TO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER BRAKING APPROPRIATELY. SHOULD BE A RECALL ON BRAKES!!!! DANGEROUS!!! HAPPENING CONSISTENTLY FOR LAST 3 MONTHS!!!
ON MARCH 19, 2016, I WAS DRIVING MY TOYOTA 2005 CAMRY AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES, EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND I ATTEMPTED TO APPROACH THE FREEWAY ON RAMP. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I CROSSED A RAISED ISLAND AND INTO THE FREEWAY LANE AND HIT A CAR THAT WAS DRIVING ONTO THE FREEWAY RAMP. BOTH CARS WERE DAMAGED. MY CAR WAS TOTALED. I WAS TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITAL AND WAS DISCHARGED FROM EMERGENCY ROOM.
THE BRAKES TURN OFF WHEN RIDING OVER A ROUGH SURFACE. I KNOW HOW ABS WORKS. THERE IS NOTHING THAT SHOULD TRIGGER THE ABS. I KNOW HOW IT WORKS OVER SNOW. THE BRAKES WORK FINE OVER SMOOTH SURFACE. BUT IF BRAKING OVER A POTHOLE THE ABS UNNECESSARILY TURNS ON CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SKID AND SLIDE MUCH FURTHER THAN NORMAL STOPPING DISTANCE. NO OTHER CAR I HAVE DRIVEN IN MY LIFE HAS DONE THIS. THIS SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON MY CAR SINCE 2005. TOYOTA DEALER HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS ISSUE. PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE AT DEPT STORE, VEHICLE ACCELERATED, TOOK BOTH FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL TO HOLD CAR, SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, TACH JUMPED VERY HIGH, THEN VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL IDLE. MYSELF AND MY SON WHERE IN CAR. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, HE NOTICED A BURNING ODOR. ANOTHER DRIVER NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND ALERTED THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RESPOND AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUOUSLY. THE CONTACT JUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHEN IT CRASHED INTO THE DIVIDER ON THE ROAD. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SEVERE SCRAPES TO HER LEFT FOOT, LEGS, AND ARMS. THE CONTACT WAS THEN TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. AFTER BEING RELEASED, THE CONTACT SUFFERED MUSCLE SPASMS AND WAS RUSHED BACK TO THE HOSPITAL FOR FURTHER TREATMENT. THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND REPORTS WERE FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A JUNK YARD WHERE THE INSURANCE COMPANY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SENT AN INSPECTOR TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS UNDETERMINED, BUT THE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION FOUND ON THE AIR CONDITIONER HOSE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT SUPPLY THE CUSTOMER WITH THE INVESTIGATION REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.

I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY AND SINCE I BOUGHT IT FROM THE DEALER IT HAD BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND THE ACCELERATOR . ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT I HAVE BEEN NOTICING IS THAT WHILE AT LOW TO MEDIUM SPEEDS THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM FAILS TO BRAKE THE CAR AFTER IT GETS OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD; SEVERAL TIMES IT HAD HAPPENED TO ME THAT AFTER I GET A BUMP I HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKES 2 TO 3 TIMES IN A RAPID SUCCESSION TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP.
