The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V480000 (Steering) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
When automatic start/stop is engaged and I am stopped at a light, the engine does not restart when I release the brake. There are audible and visible indicators of the problem on the dash, with "IGNITION ON" and "Engine Stopped Press Brake Firmly to Restart" displayed on the dash. I had to put the car into Park in order to manually restart the engine. The problem seems to happen on drizzly days when I use the wipers on various intermittent settings. This is a safety to my car and others because of the engine stopping. The vehicle has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. I contacted multiple dealers, but was told that they would need to actually reproduce the problem to diagnose, making it difficult to schedule a service appointment due to the specific weather conditions required. The dealers told me that I would have to pay for the service appointments even though the problem occurred with less than 400 miles on the car, then again with less that 1,000 miles.
It was a rainy day. I stopped and about to turn left, there was a check engine warning and it said “ ENGINE Stop press the break firmly to restart”. I was on full break and it dis not went away. I had to park it and on and off the car. It happened twice.in 3 minutes interval.
My partner was driving in stop and go traffic. One of her stops the engine just shut down. She needed to restart. The most recent issue is the rear sensor. It shows it is blocked. When I checked the back bumper the round spot, where I guess the sensor is, was pushed in. I then checked the front bumper, one of those circular spots appear close to being detached. Another issue, the phone charger located in front of the gear handle never worked. I am going to the dealership today. The vehicle was purchased January 2023 and has about 2500 miles on it.
It was raining and wipers were on. I was at a busy intersection at a red light. All of a sudden, the engine cut off and the dash read a message "Engine Stopped Steering Power Low" and then "Press brake firmly". Pressing the brake did nothing. The car would not start. When the light turned green, I had to just turn on my hazard lights to let the cars behind me know. It created a huge hazard for me and the oncoming traffic because my car could not move. After the immediate hazard had passed. I was able to put it in park, turn the car off (while at the red light) and turn it on again. It is a 2023 Corolla Cross with about 500 miles on it.
It was raining and wipers were on. I was at a red light, and all of a sudden the engine cut off. The dash read a message "Engine Stopped Steering Power Low" and then "Turn engine on". The engine light was on until a started the car back up again. It is a 2023 Corolla Cross LE with about 1,400 miles on it.
While driving home, it was raining and had wipers going. I'd never driven in the rain yet since purchasing. I was at a stop light, and the auto start/stop was activated so the car was stopped. When I tried to drive upon the light turning green the car turned off and I got a message that said "engine stopped. Steering power low". Then I got another message saying "press brake firmly to restart engine" which didn't work. I had to switch to park. Turn it off and then turn it back on in order to get moving again.
* What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Likely Start/Stop feature (the feature that turns off the engine when stopped to improve fuel efficiency, then automatically restarts when you need to go). * How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - Car unpowered while in traffic. * Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - No * Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - No * Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, warning indicators only came on as/after the car shut off. When coming to a stop, the engine will turn off (this is expected). However, occasionally when this happens, an error message displays on the screen and the engine does not turn back on. This leaves you at a stop light/sign with a powered off car requiring putting the car in park and restarting the engine. So far, each time this has happened it was raining and the windshield wipers were on.
May 14, 2023 (Sunday) It was a rainy day, didn't use my car at all. May 15, (Monday) "The Nightmare Began" !!! I turned on my car and (7) symbols on the dashboard appeared and lots of buzzing that freaked me out ! I was in a state of panic and went inside my house and got my husband and asked him to come take a look at the car cause it was going CRAZY ! We looked at each other trying to figure out what was happening to the car ? This is a list of the symbols on the dashboard: 1. Brake System Light (Yellow) 2. Check Engine Light 3. LDA Indicator Light (Orange) 4. PCS Warning Light (Yellow) 5. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Indicator Light (Orange) 6. Slip Indicator Light (Yellow) 7. Driving Assist Information Indicator (Yellow). I immediately took pictures of the dashboard for proof that I wasn't make this up. On Tuesday May 16th, I started the car and again the same thing occurred ? This time I drove the car to the dealership and explained to the service guy what the car was doing so he said they would do a diagnostic test on the car? My husband picked up the car on Wednesday, May 17th, he was told that everything was fine with the car but they re-set the computer. Thursday, May 18th, it started all over again when I started the car, Friday, May 19th, Saturday, May 20th the same I drove the car and a message appeared on the screen "Drive-Start Control System". The Crazy thing was that you could drive the car but between 12 and 1 p.m. all the lights would start to go away ? On Monday, May 22nd, it continued, but this time something new happened? I put the car into Drive Mode and the car Jerked and I put it back into Park Mode and it Jerked again so, I put it back into Drive Mode and it Jerked again so I pressed the gas pedal and the Parking Brake was on but I had not put the parking brake on? So, I drove the car and this time the transmission started to act up as well? On, Tuesday, May 23rd and Wednesday, May 24th the same thing so, we took car to dealership
My engine has shut off 4 times while I am stopped at a red light. Every singe time I have taken it to the dealership for them to tell me they cant recreate the problem and that there are no codes showing up. I have taken videos and photos while the engine is shut off. The dealership did not seem to care. An engine shutting off in the middle of the drive is a serious safety concern and yet nothing is done to address this? The error message that keeps popping up is "Engine stopped, Steering power Low" and "Engine Stopped Press Brake Firmly to Restart" and if you press the break firmly it does not restart. You have to physically put the car on park, and press the start button to restart the engine. It seems to be a common problem when the windshield wipers are on, however, 3 out of 4 times the engine has stopped, my wipers were not on.
The headlights of the 2023 Toyota Corolla cross have a major defect, in that the bulb element casts a big shadow in the head light spread causing a huge distraction while driving. I personally have swerved to avoid colliding with an object just to learn it is said shadow. When taken to the dealership for inspection, the invoice states "inspected and verified concern. Dark spot being seen is normal condition, it is the element of the bulb casting a shadow. No repair required." This is unacceptable. Off paper the manager also made the remark that other owners have made the same complaint. Again, this is completely unacceptable.
I was stopped at a red light and the engine cut off as it usually does (the car has stop/start system that is automatically enabled each time you turn the car on). When the light turned green, I pressed the gas pedal. The car froze in place and began beeping. Several indicator lights flashed on the dashboard. The dashboard said, "Ignition OFF. Press brake firmly to engage." I pressed the brake firmly but nothing happened. I turned on my hazard lights and put the car in park, thinking that might help. I attempted to turn the car off by pushing the button, but it did not turn off. The car refused to do anything and was simply frozen in place for about 3 minutes. After approximately 3 minutes of me having to direct traffic to go around me in the rain in a busy intersection during rush hour, the car simply stopped beeping and removed the error message. When I got home, I googled the issue and discovered that this is common in 2022 and 2023 Corolla Crossovers when both the automatic stop/start system and the windshield wipers are both engaged simultaneously. Since it frequently rains where I live, I am now I am scared to drive the car with automatic stop/start on. Since the car automatically turns this feature on every time you turn the car on, this requires disabling this feature anytime I want to go anywhere.
I was making an Michigan Left turn/U-turn & Hit the breaks for a traffic Signal, All of a Sudden my Engine stopped & steering got locked (I mean complete Halt), Then I have to change the Gear to Parking & restart my Car followed by Shifting to Drive mode, Luckily Vehicle started Moving & steering was Free.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. The contact stated while driving downhill at a slow speed in rainy weather with the windshield wipers intermittently activated, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the “Engine Stopped Press Brake Firmly to Restart” message was displayed. The contact stated that she depressed the brake pedal firmly and pressed the START/STOP button however, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact stated that she turned off the vehicle, shifted to park(P), depressed the brake pedal to restart the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure however, the contact was sent to a voicemail. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
My vehicle stalled out 3 times in one day while stopped a t a traffic light. Windshield wipers were on (I do not recall what setting). First message displayed advised to press firmly on brake, which I did. Second message was "low power steering" and the engine shut off completely. I had to put in park, turn off, and restart. Thankfully it did without issue.
- While stopped at a red light my engine turned off. A message appeared that read ' not ready to drive, press break pedal, and push engine switch to start. Then another message appeared that read ' Engine stopped, steering power low.' It also said ignition with a check engine symbol light on. - My safety and others was okay, I suppose. But had I not been able to start my car I would have caused a lot of traffic. - I just bought this vehicle about a month ago, it is brand new and has been inspected. -There were no warning lamps or messages. The engine just turned off and I was not able to start the car for a while. This has happened twice now, both times while my windshield wipes were on as it was raining.
Twice while I was on a roadtrip this past weekend when I was stopped, I got an error that said "Steering Power Low." The first time I was in bumper to bumper traffic in the Bronx. My phone was plugged into the vehicle to use Android Car Play. It was drizzling off and on, so my wipers may have been on, but if so, they were on intermittent. To my recollection, I was not using other electronic components at that time. The second time I was at a stop light. It was a long light, but not unreasonably so. It was raining, so my headlights and windshield wipers were on. I was using Android Car play via bluetooth connection. Both times I had to put the car into neutral and restart it. The automatic start/stop feature was on both times because I have not figured out a way to permanently turn it off.
Purchased a Toyota Corolla Cross 2023 on April 14th. Was very excited until I began noticing when the “Automated Start Stop” system began to engage at times, when I had the system supposedly off. I took it to the dealership where they tried to reenact the problem and nothing happened, they assumed it was user error. On April 21st I had driven the car for approximately 40 minutes and it was raining very hard. I had the windshield wipers running, the radio was on and when I came to the stop sign, I engaged the break (the Automated Start Stop system was on) the car totally shut down with all its bells and whistles flashing telling me the engine was off, it needed fluid, etc. I was in quite a panic mode due to the weather conditions, and worried that someone was going to hit me from behind. After composing myself, I put the car in park and restarted the car. When I was safe to pull over I disengaged the Automatic Start Stop system. I was able to make it home. On April 22nd I took the car out to try to reenact the situation and after driving a short time, the car once again, shut down. This is very very dangerous. I now have disengaged the Automatic Start System in hopes that it will not shut down until I can return this lemon to the dealership.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned: I was stopped at a red light for about 60 seconds, and the engine's Auto Start-Stop feature was engaged (engine automatically shut off while idling at the traffic light). As the light turned green, I took my foot off the brake, and the engine did not start again. The dash displayed multiple warning signs, such as "Engine Stopped - Press Brake Firmly to Restart" (I did so, and it did not restart), and "Power Steering Low." I ended up having to put the car in park, turn off the vehicle, then turn it on again to continue moving. This happened to my 2023 Corolla Cross XLE in wet weather (rain), while I had the windshield wipers on and QI charging port enabled. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk: I was stalled at a busy intersection for about 30-45 seconds, with cars behind me honking and attempting to drive around to pass me, putting both them and myself in danger. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?: According to this Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/CorollaCross/comments/t7rv4b/comment/jc2swum/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3), Toyota has confirmed there is an issue. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure?: No
I was at a stop light with the car in drive and the wipers on intermittent. The auto on/off feature was also enabled since the car was stopped. There was a failure related to the auto on off that seems to correlate with the windshield wipers being used. The engine shut off and the error message appeared on the screen "engine stopped steering power low". The check engine and power steering lights came on. I couldn't move the car until I put it in park, shut the car off, and turned the car back on.
I came to a stop in traffic. It was raining and my windshield wipers were on. The auto-stop feature engaged. When I took my foot off the brake, the vehicle vehicle failed to auto-start and prompted to put it in park and press the start button.
While it was raining, and I was at a stop light in the middle of traffic, my car stopped and made a loud warning sound and my dashboard lit up with warning signs about my engine and steering wheel. It stated "Engine Stopped, steering power low". I had to shift my car to park and turn my car off and on for it it start again. Its a brand new 2023 Corolla Cross and I've only had it for 3 months. This is very unsafe, multiple people have reported this issue. Something must be done to fix it.
When stopped at a red light with “auto stop/start” on, in the rain with wiper blades on INT level, my car engine shut off and showed a safety message reading “engine stopped, low power steering” and then “press brake firmly to restart” which also did not work when I tried. I was stopped in traffic for a few moments before I was able to fully turn off and restart my car to clear the warning. Another time this happened was stopped in a driveway, also in the rain with my wipers on.
I was driving my NEW 2023 corolla cross home on the side of the toll road (busy road). I stopped at a red light and pressed the brake down for the stop engine. When the light turned green and I let my foot off the brake warning lights went off saying “low steering power” the wheel locked and my car would not go. Kept saying “press brake firmly to restart” which I did several times and nothing happened. Finally I put the car in park and pressed the break with the start button a few times and it turned back on so I could drive away. However, I was stuck in the middle lane on road with a high speed limit between 50-60. I put my hazards on and cars were good about going around but it was very scary. Then the same thing happened when I was in the middle yield section trying to cross a very busy highway. I dont think the stop engine initiated and the car still locked up. This is a huge safety issue.
Dear NHTSA Representative: I bought a Toyota Cross LE 2023 in April of 2023. During the first few weeks of owning and using the vehicle, seat belt alarms got activated even though all passengers were wearing their respective seat belts. Also, open door alarms got activated randomly while all of them were properly closed. On the 27 of July 2023 at a stop light the vehicle turned off in accordance with the Auto Stop Programming feature, however once the brake pedal was released, the engine failed to start while faults appeared on the instrument cluster display. When the vehicle was taken to the Toyota dealer, the manufacturer representative did not recognize the situation as a technical problem. They just advised to turn off the Auto Stop Feature as a "remedy" on August 3, 2023. Service job orders were not given when repair was requested. On November 13, 2023 the vehicle failed to engage any gear once the shift lever was moved from P to D. Malfunction faults appeared on the instrument cluster display and the engine stalled. Once again the vehicle put us on a safety risk due to manufacturer defects. The vehicle was transported to the Toyota Dealer for repair. I am a resident of Puerto Rico and this car was bought to accommodate my mother's and my needs of transportation to fulfill personal and professional necessities. Even though monthly payments are made in compliance with the financial commitment, warranty services already paid in advance are not being delivered or fulfilled. As a result of this condition, I am not able to recognize the trustworthiness of the vehicle under Toyota Brand advertising in Spanish "Maneja Confiado". It is my request for NHTSA to evaluate my complaint and investigate this defect of intermittent nature that compromises the safe use of this car by my family among traffic with other drivers. I will be seeking to cancel this purchase agreement and no longer recognize Toyota as a dependable or reliable option for transportation.
The auto stop start feature engaged at a red light on a rainy day. When I let off the brake instead of the car automatically starting it stalled and gave me an error message flashing between “Engine stopped, press brake firmly to restart” and “engine stopped steering power low”. I pressed the brake and nothing. Pressed the start/stop ignition and nothing. Had to put car in park and press start/stop ignition again to get it moving. This was on a busy roadway in the rain& is not safe at all! Others are reporting this same malfunction but Toyota pretends it isn’t happening. This is unacceptable.
On 4/4/23 I stopped at a traffic light the Stop/Start system engaged. When the light changed to green I took my foot off the brake to put on the gas and as I did so the car cut completely off. I got a check engine light on the dash and a loud beep. As other cars started accelerating I did not know what to do. I eventually figured out that I needed to put the car in Park and restart with the key. The car did restart and I immediately drove it to the dealership. Upon arrival they told me the car did not have any recalls, but it should since this is a serious and dangerous safety issue. The car was put through diagnostic, but no error codes were found. I have seen by information I've gotten from this site and other sources that this appears to be an issue with 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross'.
While stopped, my car randomly displayed a warning saying my engine had shut off, my power steering was low and I needed to get to a safe place. I was stopped at a light and even after putting the car in park I was unable to get the engine started again. I ended up rolling to the side of the road, barely able to steer, and after three tries was finally able to start up the car again. It was very unsafe and happened for no reason.
I came to a stop in traffic. It was raining and my windshield wipers were on. The auto-stop feature engaged. When I took my foot off the brake, the vehicle vehicle failed to auto-start and prompted to put it in park and press the start button.
Just a couple weeks ago, my 16 year old daughter was driving our NEW 2023 Corolla Cross when she came to a busy intersection and had to stop for the red light. She reduced her speed to make the complete stop and WITHOUT engaging the ECO system (Stop/Start feature using the brake) the vehicle completely shut down and locked up on her with the "Power Steering Low" warning as well as some description about the brake. She asked what happened and what should she do. I turned the Hazard lights on and I asked her if she had tried to engage the ECO system Start/Stop and she said no. I told her to see if she could engage the Stop/Start by firmly pressing on the brake, she could not. I told her to put the car in park and again try to engage the ECO system, she could not. I told her to turn the vehicle off while in park and then restart the car. When she turned the car back on the warning cleared and she could drive the vehicle a few blocks to work. It was raining, not heavily, and we had the windshield wipers on. The "Power Steering Low" showed another time when I had the car idling in the parking lot with the wipers going waiting for my son after his game. I had to turn the car off. Numerous occasions the "Battery Charging" warning will appear when I have tried to engage the ECO system Stop/Start. One day I could not get the ECO system to engage no matter what I did, NO additional accessories were on. Same as the Power Steering Low issue unknown but, my daughter has experienced the wheel firmly locking up where she cannot control the wheel while centered in the lane. The lane assist seems to engage aggressively when not needed creating a temporary situation where the drive cannot control the wheel. My dealer has had the car 8 days without being able to replicate any error and unfortunately there SUBSTANTIAL DEFECTS DO NOT log in the cars history. Most concerning is the lack of logged warnings which the dealer says they can't diagnose the issue. Huge safety concern!!
Vehicle randomly stops on the road, warning power steering low, engine shut off. In the middle of traffic
When the vehicle comes to a stop at a traffic light, engine turns off. It appears to occur when it is raining and the windshield wipers are on. After 1-3 minutes, receive error messages: Engine stopped. Power Steering Low. Push brake firmly to restart engine." Check Engline Light is on. Have to put car in park, turn off the ignition, wait a minute, and turn back on to go. Each time the windshield wipers were activated. I brought the vehicle to a Toyota service center but they were not able to reproduce the problem. This creates a safety problem for driver and everybody on the road.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. The contact stated that while at a traffic light, the vehicle shutoff and failed to restart after several attempts. The message "Malfunction - Take to Dealer" was displayed. The contact stated that she shifted into park(P) and pressed the START button, and the vehicle responded as needed. However, the failure reoccurred several times while at a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Stalled out twice at red lights causing other drivers to drive around of immobile vehicle, all cluster lights came on, power steering would not work (steering wheel got difficult to turn), vehicle promoted to press pedal to restart. Weather condition : rainy, wiper mode intermittent, auto start : on. Miles on vehicle 390 miles, This is a known issue with the Corolla cross according to Reddit posts. Possible issues : auto start stop malfunction, faulty wiper motor causing complete engine stall.
It was the first day driving my brand new 2023 Corolla Cross XLE AWD to work in downtown Washington, DC. I pulled up to stoplight and the auto start/stop turned off the engine like normal. After about 20 seconds at the stoplight, the car started one long beep that wouldn’t shut off and my dashboard screen said “engine stopped, press brake firmly to restart" and "low power steering.” The check engine light was also illuminated. I pressed the brake firmly but the car did not restart. I was blocking downtown traffic and tried to turn the wheel to move closer to the curb, but the steering wheel would not turn. I tried to push the on/off switch with no result. I then shifted it into park and pushed the button to turn off the engine. I pushed it again immediately but the car did not restart. I waited a few seconds and pushed it again and the car started. I am reading online in a Corolla Cross Forum that it seems to be a problem when the windshield wipers are on. Interestingly, it had just begun to rain that morning and I had turned on the wipers. Since then I have turned off the auto stop/start feature each time I start the car. It is currently with the dealership so they can try to figure out the problem.
I drove to a restaurant this evening. After starting the car and backing up to go back home, an engine light came on. I was trying to make a left hand turn out of the restaurant on a busy road when the car completely shut off in the middle of the road of oncoming traffic. Someone stopped to help me move the car. I turned the car back on, the engine icon did not come on, and I was able to drive home without any problems. This is very worrisome and potentially very dangerous. I can't imagine what would have happened had this been on the highway.
I drove my vehicle normally and it shut off while driving in the city streets a message came up low steering power and it said firmly press brake to restart it never restarted until I put into park and tried again very terrifying experience as other cars were going fast all while the car was giving a loud beep car has less than 300 miles just bought new from dealer
When the vehicle comes to a stop, sometimes the engine will shut off and the check engine light comes on. It appears to occur when it is raining and the windshield wipers are on. We brought the vehicle to a Toyota service center but they were not able to help. This creates a safety problem if the vehicle dies on the road.
At red lights, come to a complete stop with auto engine off feature enabled, as it is automatically enabled upon entering the vehicle. Engine shuts off per auto feature. After 1-3 minutes, receive error messages: Engine stopped. Power Steering Low. Push brake firmly to restart engine." Check Engline Light is on. Have to put car in park, turn off the ignition, wait a minute, and turn back on to go. Each time the windshield wipers were activated. Had the car less than 5 days, 220 miles on it. Safety of myself and others put at risk as I am not able to accelerate or move through a traffic light. To be assessed by dealer ASAP.
Car stalled and rolled back at intersection - nothing worked. Check engine light, low tire pressure light, low power steering flashed on screen and car was beeping. About a week prior to the windshield wipers came on and would not turn off.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross. The contact stated while at a stop signal, the vehicle turned off and the power steering and the check engine warning light illuminated. The message to depress the brake pedal to restart the vehicle was displayed. The contact shifted the vehicle into park and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle started to operate normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic test, and the dealer stated that no failure was found. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 1,500.
When stopping at a traffic light, suddenly the engine shut off by itself and showed message saying: "Engine Stopped. Steering Power Low.". I had to switch to park and pushed the start button manually to restart the engine. This is a safety issue! Note, it happened twice after only purchasing the brand new car for 2 days. Both happened on rainy day with wiper on.
Twice, at a stop, the engine turned itself off. The car dash alerted the engine turned itself off and the warning alert sounded. The car/ignition key had to be turned off, then on to restart the vehicle. The first incident we had about 50-60 miles on the car. Today’s incident we had about 1080 miles on the vehicle. Our issue is similar to this. Both times we did not notice if the “low steering” indicator was present. We were too shocked and hurried to notice. https://youtu.be/3Pf4g40bYas
Stopped at red light in the rain, windshield wipers and auto stop/start feature was active. Engine shuts off as normal, but did not restart when removing pressure from brakes as it should. Dash beeped and flashed "power steering low" engine light and power steering light come on. Steering wheel was very stiff, but I was able to coast through the light to the side of the road. I put the car in park and attempted a restart. I believe it was the second attempt before the car would restart.
I was driving my brand new 2023 Corolla Cross FWD L Trim on a highway when I stopped at a red light. I have the Stop/System enabled on my car to get better gas mileage, but suddenly the steering wheel locked and the car would not start again when the light turned green. The "Check Engine" light came on and the dashboard told me to "Press Firmly on Brake to Restart Engine". I did this multiple times with no success. The dashboard also said that my "Steering Power was Low". I had to turn the car on and off again with my key in order to get it to work. Luckily, there was not much traffic when I was out, but this was an incredibly dangerous situation. It was also raining outside. I have only had my car for two weeks and it has 180 miles on it at this point. This is the first time it has happened for me, but I have seen a concerning number of people report the same problem for this car.
While driving the car stop working in the middle of the road, took a minute to restart the car in heavy traffic. Have happened three time now and scare to drive.
Hi there. Problems occurred in first month from my car purchase. problems are: 1. Engine shutting off while I am stopping at red light. happened two times. 2. blind spot monitor works intermittently. almost get in a deadly accident assuming they are working. 3. automatic breaks failed to work or not working as they are supposed to.
This car is experiencing the same issues of the engine shut off malfunction from the 2022 Corolla Cross model. I just got this car and it’s been happening where while i’m stopped at a intersection, the malfunction happens, tells me that something is wrong with the steering fluid, i have to put the car in park, turn off the entire car, turn it back on, and it works. This is has been a huge concern for us drivers and is extremely unsafe while driving. Many commented how it might be a bad battery cell from toyota, but this needs to get fixed ASAP!
On March 9th 2023 I was stopped at a red light in my brand new 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross XLE that I had for only 13 days (it had 420 miles on it). It was raining and I had my wipers on. Suddenly a loud alarm/tone was heard and several warning lights flashed across the dash. Power steering low/engine stopped/press brake firmly to restart. The steering wheel was locked. I tried pressing my breaks several times but nothing happened. The car behind me was honking their horn over and over. Next thing I know, I feel a 'bump' as my car bumped into his. He got out of his car and came up to my window and asked "whats the problem?" I pointed at the dash and told him I had no idea what was going on! He said my car was slowly rolling backwards into his car. He told me to put the car into park and turn it off so it would stop rolling. When I did this, the alarm/tone stopped. When I started the car back up, all dash lights were off and I was able to drive it to the Toyota dealership that was about 1/2 a mile away from where it broke down. My car has been at the dealership now for 6 weeks. My case was escalated to Toyota Corporate. For the longest time they told me they "couldn't duplicate the problem" and there was nothing wrong with my car even though it had thrown a x206d code (power source stop/engine stall). It wasn't until I went to the dealership and showed them the youtube video of what I had also experienced that they were suddenly able to duplicate the problem. I have been told a "software update" is in the works and they had to hang onto my car until the update becomes available as it is a safety issue to have the car suddenly stop working while at a stop light in traffic.
My brand new Vehicle stopped functioning when I got to a stop light on 2 occasions. Steering and brakes do not work and Vehicle kept moving at a slow pace uncontrollably. The first incident, dash board read “engine pressure low” This was not safe at all. It happened at an 8 lane cross intersection and thankfully I made it through before the lights turned red again. The second incident, dashboard read “engine stopped, steering power low” and the car did not move after that. Had it towed back to dealership. Toyota said they were able to duplicate the problems and it had something to do with intermittent wiper’s being on when you stop. Although I am positive I did not have my wipers on, and I was not alone, Toyota still says otherwise. I have been given back the vehicle from the dealership and feel extremely unsafe. I do not feel my safety is acknowledged as there are careless drivers on the road daily.
