MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN I HAD A HEAD ON COLLISION. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE WAS SMASHED TO A PULP, AND MY AIRBAGS DIDN'T EVEN FLINCH. I TRIED TO FIND OUT IF THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT OR IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS SO TO HAVE IT FIXED, BUT HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING ON THIS. *TR
ON AUGUST 6, 2008, I WAS DRIVING DOWN HWY 61 TO CLARKSDALE, MS WHEN MY ACCELERATOR STUCK; I TRIED USING THE BRAKES, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE AND I HIT A LARGE ANIMAL AND LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR. MY CAR FLIPPED OVER AND TURNED ON IT'S SIDE AND THEN LANDED BACK DOWN. I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED AND I WAS SCRAPED UP AND SHAKEN UP REALLY BAD. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY, BUT I SURVIVED THIS CRASH WITH ONLY MINOR SCRAPES AND BRUISES. I DIDN'T CALL THE POLICE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS DRIVEABLE AND THE ACCELERATOR WASN'T STICKING ANYMORE. THE SAME WEEK I TOOK THE CAR TO A TOYOTO DEALER TO CHECK OUT THE ACCELERATOR, AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. MY CAR RECEIVED OVER $1,300.00 WORTH OF DAMAGES AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 55-70 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE AND CENTER REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLIES FAILED. BOTH REAR PASSENGERS WERE NOT PROPERLY SECURED WHEN A TIRE BLEW OUT. THE DEALER REPLACED ONE OF THE THREE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 40,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VALVE STEMS IN BOTH PASSENGER SIDE TIRES CRACKED, AND CAUSED THEM TO BLOWOUT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH. SHE DISCOVERED A RECALL FOR THE VALVE STEM, BUT NOTICED THAT HER DOT NUMBER (05-TR413) WAS NOT INCLUDED. SHE CALLED THE TIRES SALES STORE AND WAS INFORMED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE VALVE STEM HAS NOT YET BEEN NOTIFIED. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,300 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,800.
AFTER ONLY 45,000 MILES ON MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA MY FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME FOR ME TO HAVE A CAR FUEL PUMP REPLACED SO EARLY IN ITS LIFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF HIS VEHICLE AT 50 MPH WHILE HE WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC STOP. THE FORCE FROM THE CRASH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FORCE CAUSED THE HEADRESTS TO BE THROWN BACKWARD BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AWAY FROM THE SCENE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO POLICE REPORT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ACTIVATE WHEN NEEDED AND WHEN HE WAS BALE TO UTILIZE THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE COMPONENT WOULD DEACTIVATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS REPLACED YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. A/C CONDENSER HAS LEAK CAUSED BY ALLEGED ROCK STRIKING. *TR

2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE A/C CONDENSER ON THE 05/06 MODELS THAT WAS BUILT WITH A DEFECT IN THE A/C CONDENSER THAT CAUSES IT TO LOSE PRESSURE AFTER 35000 MILES. TOYOTA IS CHARGING AT LEAST $650 TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT. TOYOTA TECH. SERVICE BULLETIN AC00-06. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. TOYOTA IS MAKING A FORTUNE OFF THIS BUILT-IN DEFECT, DUE TO SO MANY OF THESE COROLLAS ON THE ROAD. PLEASE FORCE THEM TO RECALL AND FIX/REPLACE THIS BUILT-IN DEFECT. TOYOTA IS TELLING CUSTOMERS THAT IT IS A "ROCK" THAT DID IT AND NOT COVERED ON WARRANTY. THE PART IS IN A SPOT WHERE NO FOREIGN OBJECT CAN GET TO IT. PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD THESE HIGH BILLS ON A BRAND-NEW CAR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AROUND 1:30 AM ON 5/02/2008 WHEN THE VEHICLE JUST QUIT RUNNING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITH NO LUCK. I CALLED MY WIFE TO COME AND GET ME SO I COULD CALL A TOWING SERVICE TO GET THE CAR HOME. I THAN CONNECTED THE CAR TO MY PERSONAL ENGINE SCANNER AND PULLED A TROUBLE CODE P0607 CONTROL MODULE PERFORMANCE. I LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT TOYOTA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR NO START CONDITION. BULLETIN # EG049R. I CONTACTED TOYOTA THE NEXT DAY AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD TROUBLE SHOOT IT. THEY TOLD ME WHAT I ALREADY NEW. THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS FAULTY. THEY ALSO SAID BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAD 111,146 MILES ON IT THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO TRY AND GET THEM TO REPAIR IT UNDER GOODWILL SINCE THEY HAVE A BULLETIN OUT REGARDING FAULTY CONTROL MODULES. I WAS CONTACTED ON 5/8/2008 AND TOLD THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT OFFER ME ANY TYPE OF GOODWILL COVERAGE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PRIOR REPAIR WORK DONE AT THE TOYOTA DEALER AND I WAS BEYOND THE NORMAL WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I DO ALL MY OWN MAINT. ON MY VEHICLES SINCE I AM A MECHANIC BY TRADE. THEY SAID THEY WERE AWARE OF THE BULLETIN BUT THE STILL WERE NOT WILLING TO OFFER ANY TYPE OF GOOD FAITH WARRANTY. MY CASE NUMBER WITH TOYOTA IS 2008 0502 0992. AFTER TALKING TO A FEW LOCAL DEALERS I DEAL WITH I HAVE FOUND THAT THEY ARE REPLACING QUITE A FEW OF THESE FAULTY PROCESSORS UNDER WARRANTY. SOME DEALERS STOCK AS MANY AS 3 CONTROL UNITS ON THE SHELF AT ONE TIME. MY FEELING IS THAT THEY ARE WARRANTING MOST OF THEM PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE OF THE BIG PICTURE. THE PROCESSOR IS A $700.00 ITEM. I WONDER HOW MANY ARE REALLY GOING BAD. SHOULD THIS BE A NATIONAL RECALL? *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. IT HAS A HISTORY OF SURGE PROBLEM EXACTLY LIKE THE SURGE ISSUE ACKNOWLEDGED BY TOYOTA ON THE LEXUS. HOWEVER, TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM WITH ISSUE ON 2006 COROLLA. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN TO SERVICE TWICE WITH THIS ISSUE. I WAS ALMOST THROWN INTO 50 MILE PER HR TRAFFIC. *TR

THERE WERE NO DEATHS OR INJURIES FOR THIS COMPLAINT. I'M GUESSING THAT THESE TWO INCORRECT ENTRIES WILL GET THIS COMPLAINT REVIEWED BY A NHTSA EMPLOYEE SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. AS NOTED BY SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS, THE 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA'S PCM APPEARS TO HAVE A SERIOUS FAILURE MODE (I.E. CONTROL MODULE TURNS OFF FUEL RELAY CAUSING ENGINE STALL). IT ALSO APPEARS THAT THE FAILURE MODE HAS A HIGH OCCURRENCE. AS OF 4/6/2009 THERE WAS A TWO WEEK NATIONAL BACK ORDER OF PCM FOR THIS VEHICLE. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE, THERE WERE 4 VEHICLES AT A SMALL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN GRAND BLANC MICHIGAN WAITING FOR THIS SERVICE PART. IF THESE 4 VEHICLES ARE TAKEN AS A DATA SAMPLING, THERE MAY BE AS MANY AS 4 * 1400 DEALERSHIPS OR 5600 VEHICLES CURRENTLY AWAITING THIS SERVICE PART AND HAVE FAILED IN THE FIELD. ACCOUNTING FOR INDIVIDUAL DEALERSHIP BUSINESS VOLUME, MY ESTIMATION IS THAT THERE MAY BE AS MANY AT 8000 FIELD FAILURES OF THIS RELATIVELY SERIOUS FAILURE MODE JUST OVER THE LAST 3-4 WEEKS. YOU NHTSA FOLKS MIGHT WANT TO GIVE A CALL OVER TO TOYOTA NA CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS BEFORE SOME YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE THERE LIVES DESTROYED BY A ENGINE STALL IN HIGH SPEED COMMUTER TRAFFIC. THANKS. CM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE UNLOADING THE TRUNK, THE TRUNK LID SUDDENLY DROPPED AND STRUCK THE CONTACT IN THE FACE. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED. SHE HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 14,000. UPDATED 05/19/08 *BF
THE CONDENSER ON THE VEHICLE FOR THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT (MODEL XRS 2006) IS EXPOSED AND THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM HAS FAILED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICING, WHILE STILL UNDER MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, AND WAS DENIED THE CLAIM. I WAS TOLD THE REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED. WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT THE DESIGN, I WAS TOLD " I DON'T DESIGN THE VEHICLE, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE". *TR
IN AUGUST 2010, I LEARNED ABOUT COROLLA RECALL. THEREFORE I CALLED ELK GROVE TOYOTA(916-405-8000) TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BUT WAS INFORMED TO WAIT UNTIL I RECEIVE A NOTICE FROM TOYOTA MOTORS USA. BECAUSE I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER FROM TOYOTA, I HAVE EMAILED THEM ON OCTOBER 19, 2010 REQUESTING THE RECALL LETTER. TOYOTA MOTORS REPLIED STATING MY COROLLA ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED ON MARCH 13, 2008. I DO REMEMBER TOWING MY CAR TO ELK GROVE TOYOTA ON MARCH 13, 2008 BECAUSE THE ENGINE WILL NOT START. I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE NEEDED NEW PARTS AND BECAUSE OF WARRANTY THERE WILL BE NO COST TO ME. MY CONCERN IS: 1. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL ANNOUNCEMENT MADE BY THE MEDIA STATED THAT THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS MATTER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE COULD STOP WHILE DRIVING. I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE I WAS IN A PARKING LOT. 2. WHY DID TOYOTA TAKE SO LONG TO ANNOUNCE THIS ENGINE PROBLEM.?IF MY ENGINE PROBLEM WAS SIMILAR TO THIS RECALL, WHY DID THEY TAKE 2 YEARS AND 5 MONTHS TO ANNOUNCE THE RECALL? I KNOW TOYOTA HAS BEEN PENALIZED FOR THEIR SLOW DECISION TO RECALL THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM. BUT IT SEEMS THAT THEY CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEM MAKING RECALL DECISION TO ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY. TOYOTA HAS BECOME TOO BIG TOO FAST AS STATED IN THE MEDIA. I HOPE THEY WILL SERIOUSLY CONSIDER CONSUMER SAFETY RATHER THAN THEIR PROFIT BY BECOMING THE LARGEST AUTO MANUFACTURE IN THE WORLD.
IN MARCH 2008, I WAS THE 3RD CAR IN A FOUR CAR ACCIDENT. WHEN I WAS HIT FROM THE REAR, I WAS PUSHED, EXTREMELY HARD INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I LOST CONSCIENTIOUSNESS WHEN I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. MY AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED, NOR DID MY SEAT BELT LOCK UP IN ORDER FOR ME TO AVOID AN INJURY. SHOULD TOYOTA BE RECALLING THEIR 2006 COROLLAS FOR RE-CHECK AND REPAIR. ALSO, I UNDERSTAND THE 2006 TOYOTA WAS RECALLED IN 2007 FOR EXTERIOR LIGHTING ISSUES, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED. *TR

THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP AND SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGES. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AT THE TIME OF THE IMPACT. MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA S WAS REAR ENDED ON THE RIGHT HALF OF THE REAR BUMPER ON HWY 85, THEN PROPELLED INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER CREATING LEFT FRONT DAMAGE. THE TRUNK WAS CRUMPLED INCLUDING THE RIGHT REAR ROOF SUPPORT. THE CRASH TO THE FRONT BROKE A LARGE PIECE OUT F THE LEFT WHEEL AND FLATTENED THE TIRE. THE SEAT BELT HELD ME, BUT I SUFFERED TWO SEVERE WHIPLASHES AND STILL UNDER TREATMENT FOR INJURIES. THE CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT A COST OF $9,300. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE TOYOTA AGENCY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE THE COLLISION DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT BUMPER. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT AIRBAGS ARE SUPPOSE TO PROTECT YOU. IS THERE AN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA AIRBAGS? *TR

AFTER PERIODS OF MORE THAN ABOUT 6 HOURS, FIRST ATTEMPT AT BREAKING DOES NOT DECELERATE CAR SUFFICIENTLY TO AVOID ACCIDENT. ON GOING PROBLEM. I HAD MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA AND GO TOYOTA (FORMERLY JOHN ELWAY TOYOTA) IN DENVER, CO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND THEY DENIED ANYTHING WRONG. I'VE HAD BREAKS REPLACED SINCE START OF COMPLAINT, THEREFORE LINES HAVE BEEN BLED, BUT PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS IS MY SECOND NOTIFICATION TO NHTSA. FIRST WAS SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I HAVE TEMPORARILY REMEDIED ISSUE BY STOPPING TWICE IN PARKING LOT OR NEIGHBORHOOD STREET BEFORE DRIVING AT FULL SPEED. I HAVE TO PUT BREAK THROUGH THE FLOOR AND CAR DOES NOT HAVE FULL BREAKING POWER ON FIRST STOP. VACUUM ASSIST CHECKED OUT OK. HAD TO USE E-BREAK TO AVOID ACCIDENT ONCE. THE COMPUTER QUITS AND CAR STOPPED RUNNING AS I WAS DRIVING. I WAS ALMOST BROADSIDED. THE LIGHTS TURN OFF, THE STEERING LOCKS AND EVERYTHING JUST SHUT DOWN. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT DAVID MAUS TOYOTA, THE COMPUTERS ARE HAVING A PROBLEM IN THE 2003-2006 COROLLAS. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THESE ITEMS. *TR
THE ENGINE ON MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS HAD AN ENGINE SERGE PROBLEM. WHEN THE CAR HAD ABOUT 26,000 MILES ON IT, I HAD A COUPLE OF INCIDENTS WHERE I WOULD BE STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON BRAKE. THE ENGINE WOULD SERGE UP TO 4RPMS. IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO KEEP FROM HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS SO SHOOK UP, I CALLED DEALER AND INSISTED THEY TAKE CAR AND CHECK IT OUT. THEY KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT, AND BY THE END OF THE NEXT DAY HAD DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY WORKBOOT. THE GAS PEDAL WAS SO CLOSE TO THE BREAK, THAT THE EDGE OF MY BOOT WAS HITTING THE GAS. I HAD A HARD TIME ACCEPTING THAT, BECAUSE I MADE A POINT TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BREAK WHEN THE INCIDENT WAS HAPPENING. I HAVEN'T HAD ANOTHER SERGE PROBLEM, BUT I DID HAVE A HIGH IDOL PROBLEM. TOYOTA REPLACED THE COMPUTER CHIP FREE OF CHARGE. I THOUGHT THAT WAS GREAT BECAUSE I HAD 36,895 MILES ON CAR AND MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I NOW HAVE 53,000 MILES ON CAR AND THE HIGH IDOL IS GETTING BAD AGAIN. THE RECENT RECALL ON GAS PEDAL HAS ME CONCERNED. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM GOES BEYOND THE GAS PEDAL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH ON A ROAD SURFACE COVERED WITH A QUARTER INCH OF SNOW; AND ENCOUNTERED A DIP IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PULL UNCONTROLLABLY TO THE LEFT DIRECTION INTO AN OPPOSING TRAVEL LANE, AND DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE IN WHICH A REPORT WAS NOT FILED DUE TO NO OTHER INVOLVEMENT OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITH NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA, THE VEHICLE GASOLINE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER OUT OF TRAFFIC WITH NO INCIDENT. I HAVE GREAT CONCERN FOR SAFETY OF OTHERS SINCE I NORMALLY DRIVE ON THE MAJOR INTERSTATES. I TRIED TO RESTART BUT NO RESULTS. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOLLED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS THE ECM OR THE ENGINE COMPUTER THAT FAILED. THIS INCIDENT IS SIMILAR TO NHTSA INVESTIGATION, #PE05029 DATED MAY 31, 2005, WHERE GASOLINE/ELECTRIC HYBRID VEHICLES GASOLINE ENGINES WOULD STALL. MAJOR CONCERN IS SAFETY ON MAJOR INTERSTATES AT HIGH SPEEDS AND THE VEHICLE STALLING OUT WITH NO WARNING. I HAVE NEVER HAD THE PEDAL APPEAR TO EVEN TOUCH THE MAT. WHILE I HAVE NEVER HAD THE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE OF HAVING THE PEDAL STICK AND CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE, I AM HOPING THAT THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUES COME TO LIGHT.
