TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAITED A MINUTE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPARK PLUG FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND BLACK SMOKE WAS COMING OUT AND I WENT FROM 70 MILES DOWN TO 40 MILES AN HOUR . THEN IT WOULD NOT START HAD TO BE TOWED HOME. WAS TOLD THE ENGINE WAS GONE. HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED. 5-18-2015
I BOUGHT A CAR SECOND HAND FROM A DEALER 4 MONTHS AGO AND WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN WE LOOKED UP THE VIN NUMBER, IT WAS ON THE LIST. WE CALLED TOYOTA WORLD OF NEWTON, NEW JERSEY AND BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN. THEY TESTED IT AND TOLD US EVERYTHING WAS OKAY INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE PART. TOTALLY DISGUSTED WITH THE BUSINESSES IN THIS COUNTY. THEY ARE LOOKING TO MAKE MONEY OFF OF US AT ANOTHER TIME. IF ANY ACCIDENT OCCURS OR BREAKDOWN AS A RESULT OF THIS RECALL, WE WILL SEEK LEGAL ACTION AGAINST TOYOTA, THE DEALER WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM AND CALL THE NEWS MEDIA WITH THE STORY. *JS

THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND WHEN CHECK THERE IS PROBLEM WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTER. *TR
DURING DRIVING IN FREEWAY, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP AND THEN SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. DURING TRIPS TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THEY WERE UNABLE TO DISCOVER THE PROBLEM OR DUPLICATE IT IN FIRST OCCASION. HOWEVER AFTER RETURNING OF THE CAR AND INSISTING OF THE PROBLEM, WITH REPETITION OF THE PROBLEM, TOYOTA REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED THROUGH PREVIOUS RECALL BUT IT MAY HAVE NOT BEEN FULLY ADDRESSED. THE ISSUE WAS POTENTIALLY ECM INTERNAL FUSE WAS SHUTTING DOWN THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE CAUSING THE CAR TO STOP. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS AFFECTS THE BRAKING DUE TO STOPPING THE CAR. AT ALL THE OCCASION THIS HAPPENED TO ME THE CAR SHUT DOWN AND CAME TO STOP. AFTER THE RESTART OF THE CAR, THE PROBLEM STAYS HIDDEN FOR A WHILE BUT COMES BACK AGAIN. THE ISSUE IS DISCOVERY OF THE PROBLEM IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE UNLESS DETAILED WORK AND EVALUATION HAS BEEN DONE. TOYOTA AGREED WITH THE DEFECT AND REPLACED ECM WITHOUT ANY CHARGES FOR MAY CAR. *TR
2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE CONTROL MODULE RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. HOWEVER, WHEN HE ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THE SERIAL NUMBER WAS NOT ON THE LIST, TO HAVE THE ECM REPLACED. ON APRIL 26, 2013, WHILE THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. SHE WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. WHEN THEY ENTERED THE VIN NUMBER INTO THE COMPUTER, IT SHOWED THE ECM HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT WAS INCORRECT, AS HE HAD THE RECEIPTS AND RECALL NOTICE. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM SHOWED THE SAME INFORMATION. IT WAS DISCOVERED THE FIRST DEALER, ENTERED THE INFORMATION INCORRECTLY. THE DEALER STATED THE ECM WAS COVERED BY TOYOTA. HOWEVER, THE PART HAD TO ORDERED. THE CONSUMER FINALLY RECEIVED A CALL, FROM THE DEALER, THAT THE PART HAD ARRIVED AND HAD BEEN REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE RPMS INCREASED TO 1500 AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS LATER DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ENGAGED INTO LIMP MODE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE AND CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS THEN REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS CORRECTED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,200. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,500.

ONE YEAR LATER AS THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME FAILURE MENTIONED IN THE RECALL, THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST THE CONTACT IN THE REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING, A STRAP ON THE FUEL TANK AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD BOTH, SIMULTANEOUSLY, BECAME LOOSE AND BEGAN RATTLING TERRIBLY. I CONTINUED DRIVING THE CAR IN ORDER TO GET HOME, A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 200 MILES, WITH THE LOUD NOISE CONTINUING THROUGHOUT. I THOUGHT THE HEAT SHIELD WAS LOOSE, WHICH IT WAS, BUT I DID NOT REALIZE THE FUEL TANK STRAP HAD FAILED, OR I WOULD NOT HAVE CONTINUED DRIVING BECAUSE OF THE DANGER OF FIRE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE STRAP AND THE SHIELD WERE BOTH LOOSE BECAUSE BOLTS HOLDING THEM IN PLACE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. THIS CAR IS NOT OLD NOR IS IT DRIVEN VERY MANY MILES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STRAP AND THE SHIELD AT A COST OF $476. *TR
I HAD TO REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT, BECAUSE IT WAS SQUEAKING (DRY AND CRACKED); I COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA ABOUT HAVING TO REPLACE IT AFTER SUCH A SHORT TIME BUT WAS TOLD BASICALLY THAT THEY DIDN'T CARE, SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD ONGOING - AND I THOUGHT UNRELATED - ISSUES WITH THE GEARS SLIPPING BUT COULDN'T IDENTIFY A CAUSE. IN JANUARY 2015, I HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE GEARS SLIPPED. ON JULY 17, 2015, I HAD THE SERPENTINE BELT REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME, BECAUSE IT WAS STARTING TO SQUEAK AGAIN. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, THE NEW BELT, NOT MADE BY TOYOTA, SOLVED THE OTHER PROBLEMS I'VE HAD WITH SHIFTING (MY CAR IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION). THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE HAD HEARD COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS ABOUT HAVING TO REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT, A PART THAT SHOULD LAST APPROX. 100,000 MILES/10 YEARS, AFTER ONLY 3 YEARS. IT WAS HIS OPINION THAT THE BELT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DIFFERENCE A NEW, NON-TOYOTA BELT HAS MADE TO MY CAR - UNEXPECTEDLY RESOLVING THE OTHER ISSUES I WAS HAVING - HAS CONVINCED ME THAT TOYOTA IS MAKING A DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS PRODUCT, ONE THAT THEY FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE.

WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE FAILED AGAIN AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH. THE CRASH OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT DID NOT MENTION IF THERE WERE ANY INJURIES. THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT REPLACE THE PART, BUT OFFERED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE AND INSPECT IT FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,261 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

RECEIVED NOTICE OF DEFECT WITH ENGINE CONTROL MODULE IN OCTOBER OF 2010 FROM TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA. FOLLOW UP NOTICE WAS STATED BY TOYOTA TO BE GIVEN AT LATER DATE. IN FEBRUARY 2011 RECEIVED NOTICE FROM TOYOTA THAT DEFECT WITH ECM WAS CONFIRMED AND COULD CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE AND POSSIBLY SERIOUS INJURY FROM DRIVING VEHICLE CAUSED BY THE ECM FAILURE. OUR CAR WAS ALREADY SUFFERING THE EXACT SYSTEMS OF ECM FAILURE. IMMEDIATELY TOOK VEHICLE TO DON MCGILL TOYOTA LOCATED AT 21555 KATY, FREEWAY, KATY, TEXAS 77450. SPOKE WITH ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER, [XXX] OF DON MCGILL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. [XXX] INFORMED ME THAT DON MCGILL TOYOTA AND TOYOTA DID NOT HAVE A REPLACEMENT PART FOR THE DEFECT IN STOCK AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED FROM THE MANUFACTURER, TOYOTA. [XXX] ALSO STATED HE WOULD CALL ME TO SCHEDULE THE DEFECTIVE PART REPLACEMENT IN 3-5 BUSINESS DAYS UPON THE PART ARRIVAL FROM TOYOTA THE MANUFACTURER. WELL IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 2 WEEKS NOW AND I HAVE NOT RECIEVED ANY CALL FROM [XXX] OR TOYOTA TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ECM. IT IS APPARENT TO ME THAT TOYOTA AND DON MCGILL COULD CARE LESS ABOUT SAFETY TO MY FAMILY WHILE DRIVING THIS DEFECTIVE VEHICLE MANUFACTURED BY TOYOTA AND SOLD TO ME BY DON MCGILL.
