TAKATA RECALL 17V006. I RECEIVED A NOTICE OF THE RECALL FROM MY LOCAL DEALER (LYNCH TOYOTA) IN MARCH 2017. I HAVE CONTACTED LYNCH TOYOTA IN MANCHESTER, CT ABOUT EVERY 2 MONTHS, BUT THE SOLUTION IS NOT YET AVAILABLE. MY TRANSPORTATION IS FULLY DEPENDENT ON MY VEHICLE AND SO I EXPOSE MYSELF TO SEVERE INJURY DAILY. MY VEHICLE WAS ALSO PURCHASED IN PUERTO RICO AND RUN IN THE MOST HUMID AND HOT PART OF THE WEST COAST OF THE ISLAND FOR ONE YEAR, WHICH AGGRAVATES THE SITUATION GREATLY SINCE PROBABILITY OF FAILURE OF THE AIR BAGS IS INCREASED WITH HUMIDITY AND HEAT. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY EVERY DAY, BUT I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAUSE MY LIFE INDEFINITELY EITHER BECAUSE THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED.

TAKATA RECALL - I LIVE IN FLORIDA, A HIGH HUMIDITY AREA, AND RECEIVED A NOTICE EARLY 2017 REGARDING THIS RECALL. I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD BE BEST FOR NO ONE TO RIDE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. SEVERAL MONTHS HAVE PASSED AND I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF WHEN THE REPAIRS COULD BE MADE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. IT SEEMS THE MATERIALS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG UNTIL DECEMBER OF 2017, IF THEN. THIS VEHICLE IS OUR MODE OF TRANSPORTATION FOR WORK, VISITING FAMILY AND ATTENDING CHURCH. WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO USE THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT IS TAKING TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS IS, IN MY OPINION, EXTREME. THE BIRTH OF OUR CHILD HAS INCREASE THE CONCERN WE HAVE ABOUT RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE. THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR OVER A YEAR AND EFFORTS TO MAKE THE REPAIRS SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE WITH THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES AFFECTED.

TAKATA RECALL - MY COMPLAINT INVOLVES TOYOTA'S TIMELINE FOR REPAIRING THE AIRBAG ISSUE IN MY 2012 COROLLA. ACCORDING TO THEIR WEBSITE MY CAR FALLS IN PHASE 4 AND GEOGRAPHICALLY I LIVE IN ZONE 3, WHICH ISN'T SUPPOSED TO START TIL AFTER JAN 2019. TOYOTA'S TEMPORARY SOLUTION WAS TO NOT HAVE ANYONE RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THAT'S KIND OF AN IMPOSSIBLE SOLUTION FOR THEIR 2+ YEAR TIMELINE. THEIR STATUS CHART SHOWS THEY PLAN TO HAVE A SOLUTION READY BY DEC 2017 FOR THE 2012 COROLLA, BUT THEY WILL ONLY BE INSTALLING IT IN CARS IN ZONE A AT THAT TIME. THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO INSTALL THE SOLUTION IN ALL CARS AT THE SAME TIME. IF THE FIX EXISTS WHY ARE THEY BEING ALLOWED TO IGNORE SOME CONSUMERS FOR OVER A YEAR AND LEAVE THEM WITH A DEFECTIVE CAR. THIS DOESN'T SEEM SAFE TO ME. THE SUGGESTION FOR ME WAS TO NOT LET ANYONE USE THE PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. .6 MONTHS OF NOT SAFELY USING MY OWN CAR IS CAUSING ME UNDUE STRESS IN THE USE OF MY VEHICLE . HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS OR SO. THE ELECTRONIC LOCKS ON BOTH FRONT DOORS ONLY WORK SPORADICALLY. THEIR ISSUES STARTED HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME. OPERATING THE LOCKS MANUALLY IS FINE. IT'S THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS THAT OFTEN DON'T WORK, WHETHER BY KEYCHAIN OR CONTROLS ON THE DOOR. THE REAR DOORS WORK AS EXPECTED MOST OF THE TIME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, FIGURING THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONSIDERING BOTH FAILED AT ONCE. THEY MENTIONED THAT THE REAR ACTUATORS ARE FINE, BUT DUE TO THE WAY THEY ARE WIRED WITH THEIR FRONT COUNTERPARTS, OCCASIONALLY THE FAULTY FRONT ONES WILL BLOCK ENOUGH VOLTAGE FROM REACHING THE THE REAR ONES. FOR $113, THEY DETERMINED THAT THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS NEED REPLACING, FOR $1,100+, WITH THE FOLLOWING PART NUMBERS: #69040-0C050 - DRIVERS DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR #69030-0C050 - PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR I DECLINED TO HAVE IT FIXED, AS IT SEEMS TO WORK MANUALLY FOR NOW. IT'S ODD TO ME THAT BOTH PARTS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME.

THE REMEDY IS TO REPLACE MY AIRBAG INFLATOR OR MY AIRBAG ASSEMBLY, DEPENDING ON MY VEHICLE, AT NO CHARGE TO ME. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER 2017 AND I HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. I REALIZE THAT THESE RECALLS AND FIXES ARE NOT AN EASY TASK, HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT THIS AMOUNT OF TIME IS A BIT MUCH AND HAS TURNED INTO MORE THAN JUST A SLIGHT INCONVENIENCE. OTHER MANUFACTURERS HAVE OFFERED REPLACEMENTS AS FAR BACK AS A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. TOYOTA WON'T RESPOND. I'VE ALSO REQUESTED A LOANER VEHICLE UNTIL TOYOTA IS PREPARED TO INSTALL THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENTS.
