The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Corolla equipped with American Omni Tires, Tire Line: Tourer, Tire Size: P205/55/16, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle wobbled and shook abnormally. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the two front tires had bubbles on the outside sidewall. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact stated that metal steel belts were showing. The contact took the tires back to Pep Boys, and the contact was informed that the failure was due to an alignment failure. The contact stated that all four tires were purchased at the same time, and the mileage on the vehicle was 150,613. The contact stated that the DOT number listed on the receipt did not match the DOT number on the tires. The contact took the tires to Firestone; however, the employees at Firestone did not find a cause for the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The tires were not replaced. The failure mileage was 165,580.
While car was in for oil change and tire rotation, it was noted that the driver's side front tire had substantial wear on the inside of the tire. It looks like the inside of the tire was ground down causing an indention. Mechanic thinks the belt may have shifted. Said he had never seen it before.
TIRES OR RIMS NOT SEALED PROPERLY CAUSING THE TIRES TO LOSE AIR PRESSURE. LOSS OF AIR IN ONE OR ALL TIRES COULD CAUSE A STEERING FAILURE , A BLOW OUT AND A LOSS OF CONTROL ON HIGHWAY DRIVING. IN 1 1/2 YEARS PRESSURE HAS FALLEN TO AS LOW AS 17 LBS PRESSURE ON ALL TIRES. DEALER SAID IT IS NORMAL AND KEEP CHECKING PRESSURE. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED BY EITHER THE RIMS OR TIRES REPLACED AS THEY ARE SURELY NOT SEALING PROPERLY. SO FAR THE AIR HAS LEAKED OUT FOUR TIMES IN THE 1 1/2 YEARS AND 3388 MILES OF DRIVING. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AND THAT OTHER TOYOTA CUSTOMER HAVE HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS BUT NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 TOYOTA COROLLA EQUIPPED WITH HANKOOK PMX9724 TIRES, SIZE: P205/55R16. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT ABRUPTLY. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A CEMENT GUARD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE FOREHEAD AND FRACTURED THE RIGHT BIG TOE. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED CUTS AND BURNS ON THE RIGHT ARM AND THE RIBS WERE FRACTURED DUE TO THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. BOTH THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,600.
IN DEC 2013 THE LEASE END ON MY 2011 COROLLA WAS COMING DUE SO I PICKED UP A 2014 TOYOTA COROLLA LE LEASE ON 12/4/2013. THIS VEHICLE HAD 8 MILES ON IT & WAS EQUIPPED WITH PROXES 4 PLUS 205/55/R16 TIRES ( I HAVE THE ID NUMBERS FROM EACH TIRE IF YOU NEED THEM). ON 2/26/14 THIS VEHICLE HAD 492 MILES ON IT & I NOTICED THE LEFT REAR TIRE HAD A LARGE ODD SHAPED CUT IN IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OUTSIDE TREAD AREA. I WENT TO SUNTOYOTA IN HOLIDAY FLA TOOK PICS OF THE TIRE DAMAGE & THE SERVICE REP [XXX] TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T HAVE A REPLACEMENT TIRE IN THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER ONE. I HAD PURCHASED ROAD HAZARD TIRE COVERAGE AT THE TIME I LEASED THE CAR & "ASSUMED" THIS ODD CUT CAME FROM ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN THE AREA SO I WASN'T CONCERNED. I HAD TO LEAVE THIS 2014 COROLLA AT DEALERSHIP FOR A GAS TANK ISSUE WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY SO I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY PUT IN A CLAIM FOR THAT ISSUE & RENTED A CAR. ON 2/28/14 I WENT BACK TO SUNTOYOTA TO PICK UP MY CAR & WHEN I LOOKED AT THE REPLACEMENT TIRE I ASKED IF IT WAS 'NEW' & WAS TOLD YES IT WAS ALTHOUGH IT DIDN'T APPEAR TO ME IT WAS; I AM NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS DEALER. [XXX] ALSO SAID THAT FIDELITY WARRANTY SERVICE WASN'T HAPPY ABOUT REPLACING A TIRE THAT ONLY HAD 492 MILES ON IT SO WE HAD WORDS OVER THAT. NOW ON APPROXIMATELY 3/26/14 I NOTICED THIS REPLACEMENT TIRE HAS WHAT LOOKS LIKE STRESS LINE CRACKS STRAIGHT ACROSS THE WIDTH OF THE TIRE (TOOK PICS) IN 2 PLACES & CAR ONLY HAS 644 MILES ON IT. OBVIOUSLY I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS & MY SAFETY AS WELL AS THE SAFETY OF OTHERS RIDING NEAR ME SHOULD THIS TIRE COME APART. I HAVE LOOKED TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY ISSUES WITH THIS TIRE BUT CANNOT FIND ANY RECENT ONES. I WILL ONCE AGAIN REPORT THIS ISSUE TO SE TOYOTA BUT I AM REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE NOT ONLY WITH THE TIRE BUT DEFINITELY WITH THIS DEALER & SERVICE DEPARTMENT BUT NEED TO PROTECT MY SAFETY IN THE EVENT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THESE TIRES. 2014 COROLLA'S ALSO HAVE "DESIGN FLAWS"..
