REAR BOOT LID NOT OPERATIONAL. TRIED USING.MY KEYS AND ALSO THE DASH BUTTON BUT THE GATE WONT OPEN OR CLOSE. HAD TO OPEN FRON THE WINDOW TO LOAD MY SHOPPING. ON MY WAY ON FREE WAY, THE DOOR OPENED AND LOST A BIT OF MY BOTTLED STUFF AND SHOPPING AS IT TOSSED AWAY. SO LUCKY TO BE ON A LINE WITH LIMITED TRAFFIC . HAD NO ACCIDENT
Blizzard pearl paint is peeling off the roof leading to rust and damaged structural integrity. Toyota has a recall for all blizzard pearl paint vehicles EXCEPT the highlander. They inspected it and said its wasn't in the recall even though the paint has a known problem and they would not fix the problem as it would be a legal admission of guilt that the recall is incomplete.
CONDENSATION AND LIQUID/WATER IN REAR EXTERIOR LIGHTS. LIGHTS OR SEALS WARP WITH CONTACT TO HEAT MANUFACTURERS DEFECTS
THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED ON THE DRIVERS DOOR. WITHIN TWO MONTHS ALL OF THE ACTUATOR DOOR LOCKS FAILED ON ALL OF THE DOORS. THE COST TO REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE FOR A FIX AND FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING THEY MAY FAIL AGAIN. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED SINCE THERE WERE MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT.
THE LOCKING MECHANISM FOR THE REAR GATE REMAINS IN THE LOCKED POSITION WHICH KEEPS THE HATCH UNABLE TO ENGAGE ALLOWING THE GATE TO FLY OPEN WHEN DRIVING. THIS CAUSES A DANGER TO PETS AND MATERIAL STORED IN THE REAR OF THE 2015 HIGHLANDER ON A CITY STREET WHILE MOVING IN A STRAGHT LINE..
OUR 2015 HIGHLANDER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY LOCKS UP AND HAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. FIRST HAPPENED WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO SIT AND START AND STOP OVER 15 TIMES AND THE STEERING FINALLY CAME BACK. WE IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THIS VEHICLE HAD NO RECALLED PARTS AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM. WHEN IT HAPPENED THE SECOND TIME WE TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID IT HAD A BAD BATTERY AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. WE PAID A HEFTY SERVICE FEE AND PAID FOR A REALLY EXPENSIVE BATTERY. TWO DAYS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND WHILE MOVING ON A CITY STREET ABOUT 35/40 MPH. WE GOT OVER SAFELY BUT WAS SO DANGEROUS. TOOK IT BACK TO TOYOTA AND THEY ARE TELLING US THE VEHICLE HAS NO PROBLEM AND WE JUST NEED TO USE IT TILL IT HAPPENS AGAIN AND BRING IT BACK! IF WE DON'T KILL OURSELVES OR ANOTHER MOTORIST! AFTER DOING OUR OWN RESEARCH WE FIND OUR CAR IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT THE VEHICLES WITH THE RECALL ARE DOING BUT THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE EPS SYSTEM AND TOYOTA IS PUTTING US BACK ON THE ROAD IN A DANGEROUS VEHICLE. SO NOW WE ONLY HAVE ONE VEHICLE AND STRUGGLING TO GET BY. I FIND IT COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS WAS OF NO HELP AND RUDE ON THE PHONE. NOW WE HAVE BOUGHT A $40,000.00 CAR WE CAN NOT DRIVE AND BE SAFE ON THE ROAD WITH. HOW CAN THEY NOT HELP US AND FIX THE PROBLEM? WE WILL HAVE TO GET A SECOND OPINION AND END UP PAYING MORE MONEY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THANKS TOYOTA WE WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER.
MY SON DROPPED ME OFF AT THE AIRPORT. I FORGOT TO LEAVE HIM THE KEYLESS DEVICE THAT KEEPS THE VEHICLE RUNNING. HE CALLED AND LET ME KNOW HE MADE IT HOME (30 MILES APPROX.TO HIS HOME) AND I DIDN'T LEAVE HIM THE KEYLESS DEVICE. SHOULD THIS BE A SAFETY RECALL? AND HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?
DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK MECHANISM WORKED ONLY INTERMITTENTLY. HAD TO CRAWL THROUGH PASSENGER SIDE TO UNLOCK DOOR MANUALLY BY PULLING ON THE DOOR HANDLE. REPLACED DOOR LOCK MECHANISM AT DEALERSHIP. NOW THE LEFT REAR DOOR IS STARTING TO MALFUNCTION. SOMETIMES PASSENGER IS UNABLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM INSIDE OF CAR AND THE DOOR HAS TO BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE.
Rear tail lamps on lift gate both sides have failed seals that allow moisture to condense inside the lens. This occurs to the point the water collects inside the lens and obstructs the emission of light when the brake pedal is depressed. Several reports of this happening can be found with a simple online search for the issue. The Manufacturer (Toyota) has to be aware of the defect in manufacturing process or design by the shear number of occurrences, yet they deny any responsibility in repair or replacement costs. The issue was first noticed at 4 years of age and around 45,000 miles. This need to be reviewed and addressed as a matter of maintaining basic safety.
REAR WINDOW EXPLODED INWARD WHILE DRIVING. VERY LOUD BANG SOUND. NOTHING HIT IT. TEMP WAS 66 DEGREES, CLEAR SKIES. I HAD THE FRONT DRIVER'S WINDOW PARTIALLY OPENED WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
WHILE DRIVING, THE RADIO AND MAPPING SYSTEM WILL SUDDENLY STOP WORKING. THERE THEN IS NO WAY TO RESET THE MAP AND/OR RADIO, OTHER THAN TO STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN IT OFF AND THEN RESTART IT. SOMETIMES, IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE RESTART TO HAVE THE SYSTEM BACK TO RUNNING NORMAL. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND ON VARIOUS TYPES OF ROADWAYS OR HIGHWAYS. IT HAS HAPPENED ON VARIOUS DATES, BUT THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON AUG. 10, 2019.
VEHICLE'S RADIO, MAPS, ENTUNES, WILL FREEZE. AS WELL AS THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM. IT WILL THEN RESET ITSELF AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF BEING FROZEN AND UNABLE TO USE ANY FEATURES. THIS OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES A WEEK OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS.
THREE OF THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE AT THE SAME TIME. MY WIFE CANNOT UNLOCK THE CAR DOORS WITHOUT GOING TO THE ONE DOOR THAT IS WORKING WHEN SHE PUSHES THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON HER REMOTE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF ARTICLES AND MESSAGE BOARD POSTS ON THE INTERNET RELATED TO DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS FAILING ON TOYOTA VEHICLES. TOYOTA IS PROVIDING SOME FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO REPAIR THE ISSUE BUT IT IS NOT NEAR ENOUGH TO COVER IT ALL AND I AM OUT OF POCKET FOR A LARGE AMOUNT OF THE REPAIR. DUE TO THE SCOPE OF THE ISSUE I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE HANDLED THROUGH A RECALL.
DRIVER-SIDE DOOR DOES NOT LOCK/UNLOCK WHEN USING THE KEY FOB, DOOR HANDLE, OR THE SWITCH INSIDE THE VEHICLE. ISSUE WAS SPORADIC AT FIRST BUT NOW OCCURS ALMOST EVERY TIME WE (TRY TO) LOCK/UNLOCK THE DOORS. I BELIEVE THE ISSUE TO BE THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR, WHICH I INTEND ON REPLACING.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR CHECK STOP HAS FAILED TWICE THROUGH NORMAL USE (OF OPENING AND CLOSING THE DOOR). I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR WHERE THIS PART HAS FAILED EVEN ONCE. FIRST TIME WAS IN FEB OF 2017.
THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM WILL GO HAYWIRE THEN REBOOT ITSELF WHILE DRIVING. YOU CAN NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE SCREEN WHILE IT IS GOING HAYWIRE. I HAVE A VIDEO BUT COULD NOT UPLOAD IT. THIS HAPPENS A LOT.
FRONT DRIVER SEAT IS BROKEN , FRAME IS COMING THROUGH THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF THE SEAT IN THE FRONT OF THE SEAT STICKS INTO MY BACK

THE IGNITION WAS CYCLED OFF AND ON; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. ADDITIONALLY, WITH THE IGNITION IN THE OFF POSITION, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. WITH THE IGNITION IN THE ON POSITION, THE STEERING WHEEL REMAINED SEIZED IN ONE POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GALE TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 50 PALOMBA DR, ENFIELD, CT 06082, (860) 741-3761) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE OR DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V144000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ON APRIL 24. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *BF*JB
IN 2017 I HAD MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR INNER LIGHT ASSEMBLY REPLACED DUE TO CONDENSATION AND NOW 2019 I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE DRIVERS SIDE INNER LIGHT ASSEMBLY DUE TO CONDENSATION TO THE COST OF $235. TOYOTA BODYWORK SHOULD HOLD UP BETTER THAN THAT. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED.
AS I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AND HIT THE BUILDING WALL. SINCE I WAS PUZZLED BY WHAT HAPPENED, I READ SEVERAL ARTICLES ABOUT TOYOTA AUTOMOBILES DOING JUST THIS SAME THING. MOST OF THE ARTICLES COVERED TOYOTA AUTOMOBILES OLDER THAN MINE, I DID FIND SEVERAL RECENT REPORTS, INCLUDING TWO THAT INVOLVED 2015 HIGHLANDER MODELS JUST LIKE MINE. I PLAN TO ALSO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER, TOYOTA.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NALLEY TOYOTA OF ROSWELL (11130 ALPHARETTA HWY, ROSWELL, GA 30076, (404) 994-5422) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,800.
AFTER DRIVING A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THE NAV UNIT WILL RESET ITSELF, SHORT OR LONG TRIPS MAY RESULT IN MULTIPLE OCCURANCESES
DRIVING AT 70MPH ON THE OHIO TURNPIKE TODAY 3/22/2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 6PM WE HEAR A LOUD BOOM. THIS SOUNDED LIKE WE WERE SHOT AT FROM A CORNFIELD. THEN WE HEARD SMALL FRAGMENTS OF GLASS ABOVE US BLOW INTO THE AIR. THERE WAS NO ROCKS OR WE WERE NOT UNDER A BRIDGE FOR SOMETHING TO FALL ON IT. IT WAS JUST AN EXPLODING GLASS ABOVE OUR HEAD IN THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF. SEE PICTURES VERY SCARY THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
DRIVER'S HEATED SEAT BEGAN HEATING TO A HIGH LEVEL WHILE CONTROL WAS IN 'OFF' POSITION. DRIVER'S LUMBAR SUPPORT PRESSURE BEGAN INCREASING ON ITS OWN WITHOUT USE OF THE PRESSURE CONTROL BUTTON.
WHEN TRYING TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC AT AN ONRAMP, THE VEHICLE WILL FREQUENTLY REFUSE TO DOWNSHIFT TO MATCH TRAFFIC SPEED WHEN DOING 35-50MPH. THIS HAS RESULTED IN SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES AND I NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN. THIS FORCES A MANUAL DOWNSHIFT THAT CANNOT ALWAYS BE IN TIME. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON NUMEROUS FORUMS AND SOME HAVE REPORTED HAVING TO "TRICK" THE TRANSMISSION INTO DOWNSHIFTING
FOR TWO YEARS NOW, MY VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY HAVE AN ENGINE STALL WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND WHILE GOING STRAIGHT AHEAD OR TURNING. THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND NAVIGATION SCREENS SHUTS OFF AND TURNS BACK ON. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO TOYOTA TWICE AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR GET THE THE VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION AGAIN. TODAY, THE ENGINE DIDN'T IMMEDIATELY COME BACK ON AFTER STALLING, AND I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 33000 MILES ON IT AND HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY CONCERN AT THIS POINT AND IT SEEMS I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE ACCORDING TO THOSE REPORTED TO THE NHTSA.
THE RADIO/NAVIGATION SYSTEM WILL MALFUNCTION AND SHUT OFF AND RESTART. AT NIGHT THIS IS A HAZARD DUE TO THE FLASHING LIGHT OF THE RADIO CAUSING A DISTRACTION. THIS IS ALSO A HAZARD DUE TO THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM NOT WORKING. THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES, IT COULD TURN OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES A MINUTE OR IT COULD DO IT ONCE AN HOUR. IF THERE IS A SHORT IN THE RADIO COULD THIS CAUSE A FIRE? THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WHILE IN MOTION OR SITTING STILL AND ON EVERY ROAD.
IN DECEMBER OF 2018 I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY DOORS,GOT IT CHECKED AT TOYOTA,3 DOOR ACTUATORS HAD GONE BAD ,TOYOTA SAID IT WAS NOT A RECALL,CHECKED TOYOTA BULLETIN NUMEROUS OWNERS WERE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, TOYOTA WAS NOT GOING TO FIX PROBLEM COST 3 HUNDRED PLUS FOR EACH ACTUATOR PLUS LABOR,HAD TO BUY ON AMAZON AND FIX MYSELF.
WHEN DRIVING MY HIGHLANDER THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED, ERROR KEEPING THE START BUTTON PRESSED WILL CAUSE AN EMERGENCY STOP. I DISMISSED THIS. THEN IT POPPED UP A MESSAGE THAT CAR CANNOT DRIVE WHILE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR ARE PRESSED SIMULTANEOUSLY. I LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE SO TRIED TO PULL OF BUSY ROAD, PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL RESTORED ACCELERATION. THEN WHEN I STOPPED IN TRAFFIC OR AT LIGHTS THE CAR SHUT ITSELF DOWN AND HAD TO BE RESTARTED. THESE ERROR MESSAGES KEPT COMING ON WHILE I DROVE TO THE DEALER. I SWITCHED OFF THE CAR AT THE SHOP AND IT WOULDNT REPEAT THE PROBLEM, NO CODES HAVE BEEN RECORDED BY THE VEHICLES COMPUTER BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. TOYOTA AND THE DEALERSHIP WANT TO WAIT UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. SINCE IT HAPPENED BEFORE, ALSO WHILE IT WAS DRIVING I AM UNCOMFORTABLE AS IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN. I DON'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. I BELIEVE THE INTELLIGENT POWER MODULE OF THE CAR IS SHORTING OUT AND CAUSING THE CAR TO GO INTO FAILSAFE MODE AND SHUT DOWN CREATING HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.

IN ADDITION, WHEN PARKING AND RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL, A LOUD UNKNOWN NOISE OCCURRED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NORTHRIDGE TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 19550 NORDHOFF ST, NORTHRIDGE, CA 91324, (833) 650-5833) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS MOISTURE IN THE HEADLIGHTS. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE HEADLIGHTS DUE TO FAULTY SEALS. THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED BY A WARRANTY AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,665.
The following error message appears:“Both accelerator and brake pads are depressed”. This is not actually being done.The vehicle will then brake suddenly on its own, and the driver must accelerate then brake quickly to disengage the automatic brake.This creates a highly dangerous traffic situation. It has occurred at high speeds on the expressway and makes merging into traffic especially risky.Vehicle has been inspected on 4 occasions by Toyota dealerships and they have failed to diagnose or repair the problem, simply stating that the problem "needs to go to corporate" and taking no further action. Issue has been reported to Toyota Nat'l Service Center and am now awaiting resolution with the regional service engineer.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,933.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (LAKESIDE TOYOTA, 3701 N CAUSEWAY BLVD, METAIRIE, LA 70002, (877) 512-8274) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. ADDITIONALLY, ON AUGUST 31, 2018, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING, JUMPED THE PARKING BUMPER, AND CRASHED INTO THE QUARTER PANEL OF A TRANSPORT VAN. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CHEST INJURIES AND MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS PROVIDED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-331-4331, EXT 73822 AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1809053132. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE EVENT DATA RECORDER WOULD BE RETRIEVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000. *DT *JB
BOTH FRONT DOOR ACTUATORS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME WITH 34K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. ELECTRIC LOCKS WILL NOT OPERATE ON EITHER DOOR. VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND HAD TO ENTERED THROUGH THE REAR DOORS OR BY USING THE HIDDEN KEY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V144000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH IN 4 LANES OF HOLIDAY TRAFFIC. WE HAD BEEN IN THE CAR FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD BANG (IT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN WENT OFF IN THE CAR) AND GLASS WAS FLYING EVERYWHERE. I LOOKED UP AND THERE WAS A HOLE ABOUT 4" BY 2" IN THE SUNROOF AND THE BALANCE WAS ALL SHATTERED. AFTER PULLING ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND LOOKING FROM THE OUTSIDE, THE GLASS EDGES OF WHAT WAS LEFT WERE PROTRUDING UP. THIS HAPPENED ON A SUNDAY, SO I HAD TO BUST AS MUCH OF THE REMAINING GLASS OUT THAT I COULD TO DRIVE IT HOME. THE TEMPERATURE WAS 85 AT THE TIME. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 3.5 YEARS AND I HAVE 60,000 MILES ON MY CAR. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN! TOYOTA WILL NOT ADMIT ANY FAULT AND TOLD ME TO SEND A CLAIM TO MY INSURANCE.
2015 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER LIMITED--3 OR 4 OUNCES OF WATER HAS ACCUMULATED IN BOTH OF MY TAIL LIGHTS (THAT CONTROL BRAKE LIGHTS AND BACKUP LIGHTS) THAT ARE LOCATED IN THE HATCH OF MY TAIL GATE. THIS CAUSES A GREAT DEAL OF CONDENSATION TO CLOUD REAR BRAKE AND BACKUP LIGHTS. WHEN THE TAIL GATE IS LIFTED THE 3 OR 4 OUNCES OF WATER THAT HAS ACCUMULATED COMES CLOSE TO OVERFLOWING INTO TAIL LIGHT BULB AREAS WHICH I AM AFRAID WILL SOON DISABLE THOSE LIGHTS AND FAIL TO WARN OTHERS THAT THE VEHICLE IS BRAKING OR STOPPED WHICH COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE CRASH. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD CAUSE THE DAMAGE. LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP NOTICED CONDENSATION IN RIGHT REAR TAIL LIGHT ON 22 MARCH 2018 AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING TAIL LIGHT AT A COST OF $330. THEY DID NOT NOTICE A PROBLEM IN RIGHT TAIL LIGHT. IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS I HAVE NOTICED WATER ACCUMULATION AND CONDENSATION IN LEFT TAIL LIGHT. FIRST TIME I NOTICED THE PROBLEM IN LEFT TAIL LIGHT, THE RIGHT TAIL LIGHT WAS FINE. AFTER THE NEXT RAINSTORM 3 TO 4 OUNCES OF WATER HAS ACCUMULATED IN BOTH TAIL LIGHTS--THE WATER AND CONDENSATION STILL REMAIN. I HAVE ATTACHED THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS; --CONDENSATION IN BOTH TAIL LIGHTS (PICTURES 8598 AND 0928) --3 TO 4 OUNCES OF WATER ACCUMULATION INSIDE BOTH TAIL LIGHTS--PICTURES (2140 AND 7546) SHOW WATER IN OUTER LOWER CORNERS OF TAIL LIGHTS WHEN THE LIFT GATE IS RAISED.
SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED. MY FAMILY AND I WERE GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE, NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND US AND WE HAD BEEN TRAVELING ALL AFTERNOON WITH NOT TEMPERATURE VARIANCE. RIGHT WHEN WE HIT 80 MPH WE HEARD A VERY LOAD BANG LIKE A GUN HAD GONE OFF IN THE CAR. THEN WE HEARD THE WIND NOISE COMING FROM THE SUNROOF. THE COVER WAS CLOSED SO WE COULDN'T SEE WHAT HAPPENED. I PULLED OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE SUNROOF IT WAS COMPLETELY SHATTERED. THE GLASS THAT WAS STILL IN PLACE AROUND THE RIM OF THE SUNROOF WAS PROTRUDING UP AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE SO I KNEW NOTHING HIT IT TO BREAK IT. THE BANG WAS REALLY LOAD AS WELL SO I AM EXTREMELY DOUBTFUL THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY ANY KIND OF EXTERIOR OBJECT. VERY LUCKY THE COVER WAS CLOSED OR WE WOULD HAVE HAD GLASS ALL OVER US.
REAR BRAKE LIGHTS (LEFT & RIGHT) SHOW HEAVY CONDENSATION THAT COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN LIGHTS WEARING OUT EARLY OR CLOUD VISION OF MOTORISTS DRIVING BEHIND ME. THERE IS PROBABLY A POTENTIAL SEAL ISSUE OR LEAKAGE IN THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY THAT LEADS TO THIS. SHOWED IT TO DEALER AND GOT A QUOTE OF ~$900 TO REPAIR/REPLACE. ALSO, THE LIFTGATE SEAL MIGHT BE BROKEN OR LEAKING AS NOTICE DAMPNESS OR SMALL WATER ACCUMULATION IN TRUNK AFTER RAIN.
THE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP AND DROPS DOWN OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVERS VIEW OF THE ROAD COMPLETELY(IF TALLER THAN 5'9'). WHEN SWUNG TO THE SIDE IT OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW OUT THE LEFT WINDOW, AND DISTRACTS THE DRIVER BY SWINGING INTO THE LEFT SIDE OF THEIR FACE WHILE TURNING/CHANGING LANES WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA VEHICLES DUE TO A POOR DESIGN FRICTION MECHANISM THAT SHOULD HOLD THE VISOR AT ANY ANGLE OUT OF THE DRIVERS WAY. REPLACEMENT IS $300 DISCOURAGING PROPER REPLACEMENT AND CAUSING DRIVERS TO ENDURE THE SAFETY HAZARD. TOYOTA HAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED VISORS UNDER A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON OLDER VEHICLES. DUE TO THE COST THERE ARE DOZENS OF REPAIR PROCEDURES AND REMOVAL PROCESSES RECORDED ON YOUTUBE TO ILLUSTRATE HOW WIDESPREAD 'TOYOTA VISOR WON'T STAY UP' JUST SEARCH ON YOUTUBE. REMOVED THE VISOR DOES NOT BLOCK THE DRIVERS VIEW BUT REMOVES SAFETY WARNINGS FOR THE AIRBAG AND SAFE OPERATION ROLLOVER WARNING. TOYOTA SHOULD ISSUE ANOTHER TECHNICAL BULLETIN FOR THIS SUPPOSEDLY IMPROVED VISOR MECHANISM AND REPAIR FOR OWNERS.

BOTH DIVER AND PASSENGER VISORS DO NOT STAY SET. THEY MOVE UP WHEN NOT EXPECTED AND THE SUN IS IN YOUR EYES ESPECIALLY IN THE MORNINGS AND EVENINGS WHEN THE SUN RISES AND SETS!! EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!! DEALER SAID IT WAS NORMAL. I HIGHLY DISAGREE.
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A SITUATION WITH MY 2015 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER (VIN# 5TDJKRFHXFS1[XXX]) THAT HAS BECOME QUITE CONCERNING. WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL FROM A DEAD STOP POSITION, I HAVE EXPERIENCED AN INITIAL ACCELERATION AND THEN A HESITATION FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY A RESUMPTION OF ACCELERATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST SEVEN TIMES. AT FIRST I THOUGHT MY FOOT WAS SLIPPING OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER EXAMINATION I REALIZED THIS WAS NOT POSSIBLE. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED (APRIL 16, 2018) I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PROCEED FROM A STOP LIGHT ACROSS 3 LANES OF HIGHWAY TO THE FOURTH LANE. AS I STEPPED ON THE GAS THE CAR ACCELERATED FORWARD AND THEN HESITATED. I PURPOSELY LEFT MY FOOT RIGHT WHERE IT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL AND WITHIN ONE OR TWO SECONDS IT RESUMED AND AGAIN ACCELERATED FORWARD. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THERE IS NO SPUTTERING OR BACKFIRING, JUST A TOTAL VOID OF ANYTHING HAPPENING UNTIL IT AGAIN RESUMES FORWARD MOTION. I JUST HAD THE CAR SERVICED ON APRIL 25, 2018 AT MY TOYOTA DEALER AND MENTIONED THE PROBLEM. THEY DROVE THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO RAN A DIAGNOSIS OF THE SYSTEM AND FOUND NO ABNORMALITIES. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THAT I BELIEVE WAS CAUSED BY SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION (SUA). I WAS PULLING INTO A DIAGONAL PARKING SPACE ON A CITY STREET, PROCEEDING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED, WHEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN SURGE IN ACCELERATION ACCOMPANIED BY A GRINDING SOUND. I HIT THE BRAKE TO NO EFFECT, AND THE VEHICLE JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT A POLE (NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING). THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND WE WERE SHAKEN UP BUT NOT INJURED. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE REAR DRIVER'S DOOR TO REMOVE HIS DAUGHTER FROM THE CAR SEAT, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THE CONTACT HAD TO GO AROUND AND OPEN THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR IN ORDER TO GET THE INFANT OUT OF THE SEAT. ADDITIONALLY, DURING THE SECOND WEEK OF FEBRUARY OF 2018, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT DID NOT OPEN. AT THE END OF FEBRUARY, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR ACTUATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WOULD BE THE THIRD DOOR THAT EXPERIENCED ACTUATOR FAILURE. THE DEALER (LUGOFF TOYOTA IN LUGOFF, NORTH CAROLINA) DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE OWNER THE FIRST TWO TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED A THIRD TIME. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
THE MONITOR RESETS/ REBOOTS AT LEAST ONE TIME EVERY TIME YOU IN MOTION WITH THE VEHICLE. MEANING THAT THE GPS, BLUETOOTH AND MUSIC ALL STOPS AND RESTARTS. I'VE PAID TO HAVE THE MONITOR REPLACED BUT IT STILL DID NOT STOP THE ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT THIS HAPPENING. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY ARE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT IT IS AN ISSUE AND THE DEALERSHIPS DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT WHICH I BELIEVE MAKES IS A LARGER ELECTRICAL ISSUE.
IT IS HARD TO TURN WHEEL ON LOW SPEED. BOTH DIRECTIONS
SOON AFTER WARRANTY RAN OUT THE LIFT GATE TO THE TRUNK HATCH BEGAN LEAKING LUBRICATION AND INTERMITTANLY WOULD NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY, CLOSE ALL THE WAY, OR OPEN OR CLOSE AT ALL. MANY TIMES, I WOULD NEED TO MANUALLY PUSH THE HATCH DOWN TO CLOSE, WHICH REQUIRED EXTREME FORCE. THE SAME FORCE WOULD BE REQUIRED TO OPEN THE HATCH AT TIMES. ESENTIALLY, THE LIFT GATE IS UNRELIABLE TO LIFT OR CLOSE MOST OF THE TIME.THE COST ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALER EXCEEDED $1,800 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF BOTH STRUTS.
DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES WITHIN 12 MONTHS ON THE VEHICLE, TWICE ON THE SAME DOOR. THE INTERNET HAS MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS DEFECT. THE FAILURE RATE IS FAR TOO HIGH FOR THIS ACTUATOR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE, DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE HIGHLANDER, IF YOU EXIT THE VEHICLE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING THE 3 PASSENGER DOORS DO NOT RESPOND TO THE KEY FOB OR THE EXTERIOR MANUAL UNLOCKING MECHANISM. IF THE DRIVER DOOR ACTUATOR FAILS DURING THIS SCENARIO YOU ARE EFFECTIVELY BARRED FROM THE VEHICLE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING.
