MY TOYOTA 2006 PRIUS HAS INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT FAILURES. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS TO BE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS CHANGED THE BULBS, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER ABOUT 9 TIMES AND THEY CONTINUE TO TELL ME IT IS BULBS DESPITE BULB AND ENTIRE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT. I CONTINUE TO BE PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE AS A RESULT. *TR
2006 TOYOTA PRIUS GASOLINE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE FOLLOWING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH: MASTER WARNING LIGHT, HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT AND MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LIGHT. *KB THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE AT A LOW SPEED ON THE ELECTRIC ENGINE AND THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE PULLED ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONSUMER SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF THEN AFTER A FEW MINUTES STARTED IT BACK UP. THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY BUT ALL THE LIGHT WERE STILL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED THE LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER ON AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *NM
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN SHUTTING OFF, SOMETIMES SECONDS AFTER TURNING THEM ON. SOMETIMES THE DRIVERS HEADLIGHT AND OTHERS THE PASSENGERS HEADLIGHT. I'VE EVEN BEEN PULLED OVER BY AN OFFICER , TOLD HIM ABOUT THE ONGOING ISSUE WITH TRYING TO GET TOYOTA TO OWN UP TO IT, AND WAS TOLD THAT HE HAD RUN ACROSS THIS BEFORE. HE LET ME GO WITHOUT AS MUCH AS A WARNING. THIS PROBLEM IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. TOYOTA REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. HELP. WHILE BRAKING HARDER OR MORE SUDDENLY THAN NORMAL (USUALLY ON DOWNHILL) THE SKID CONTROL SYSTEM KICKS IN, BUT FOR A SECOND OR TWO THE BRAKES FEEL LIKE THE DISENGAGE AND THEN GO ON AGAIN. FOR A SPLIT SECOND EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS IT MAKES ME HAVE A FLUSH OF PANIC. *TR
ON OUR 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS, PURCHASED JUNE 27, 2006, NIGHT-TIME DRIVING VISION IS IMPAIRED BY THE REFLECTION OF THE DASHBOARD ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. THE IMAGE OF THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION LIGHTS IS STRONGLY REFLECTED RIGHT INTO THE CENTER OF THE DRIVER'S VISION NECESSITATING LOOKING UNDER, OVER, OR AROUND THE REFLECTIONS. POOOOOOR DASHBOARD DESIGN. VERY DISAPPOINTING AND SCARY.
2006 TOYOTA PRUIS HEADLIGHT FAILURE. ON GOING PROBLEM WITH ONE OF THE HEAD LIGHTS SPONTANEOUSLY TURNING OFF. TAKEN TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A BULB ISSUE. BULB REPLACED FOR APPROX $200 BUT IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. WHEN ONE OF THE BULBS DOES BURN OUT THERE IS A REAL PROBABILITY THAT THERE WILL BE NO HEADLIGHTS. THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND CORRECTED BY TOYOTA. *TR
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS WITH HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE HEADLIGHTS. BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO DIM AND THEN GO OUT WHILE DRIVING INDEPENDENT OF EACH OTHER. MANY TIMES BOTH WILL GO OUT ONE RIGHT AFTER THE OTHER. THEY DO THIS OFTEN, BUT ON A RANDOM BASIS. WHEN THE SWITCH IS TURNED OFF THEN ON THE COME BACK ON FOR A SHORT PERIOD. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SAY THEY THINK IT IS THE BULBS, HOWEVER THEY CAN NOT GUARANTY IT. THEY ALSO TELL ME THAT TOYOTA HAS A LONG BACK ORDER ON THE BULBS. IN READING A FEW HYBRID WEB SITES AND BLOGS, I HAVE READ NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. WHEN DRIVING DOWN A DARK HIGHWAY IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO ALL OF A SUDDEN HAVE NO HEADLIGHTS ON A CAR AND THEN TO BE TOLD THAT IT WILL BE OVER $750 TO "MAYBE" FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH ONE LIGHT A FEW YEARS AGO AND WAS SUFFICIENTLY INTERMITTENT THAT AFTER THE $750 ESTIMATE I DECIDED I COULD LIVE WITH IT. NOW IT HAPPENS OFTEN AND TO BOTH LIGHTS. *TR
HID HEADLIGHTS ON 2006 PRIUS KEEP FAILING. FIRST FAILURE AT ABOUT 14K MILES; TWO FAILURES BETWEEN 20K AND 30K MILES. TOTAL OF FIVE HID FAILURES: 2 FOR PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT; 3 FOR DRIVER'S SIDE LIGHT. FAILURES ARE INTERMITTENT, OFTEN WHILE DRIVING. HITTING HID LAMP LIGHTLY OFTEN RESTORES LIGHT. INITIALLY BULBS WERE REPLACES (TWICE). SUBSEQUENTLY, THE ENTIRE UNIT (INCLUDING COMPUTER BOARD) WERE REPLACED. BULBS SHOULD LAST LIFE OF CAR-- NEITHER ORIGINAL HID LIGHT LASTED THE FIRST YEAR. *TR
HID DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT FAILS INTERMITTENTLY. FIRST NOTICED SPRING 2007, AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES; OCCURRED RARELY, ABOUT ONCE EVERY TWO - FOUR WEEKS. NOW IS A REGULAR EVENT. HEADLIGHT GOES OUT ALMOST EVERY TRIP. AFTER TURNING THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AND ON AGAIN, DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT RESTARTS AND IS LESS LIKELY TO FAIL AGAIN. BOTH HIGH AND LOW BEAMS ARE AFFECTED. I SEE A LOT OF PRIUS VEHICLES WITH A HEADLIGHT OUT. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING THE OTHER HEADLIGHT JOINING THIS BEHAVIOR. *TR
2006 TOYOTA PRIUS ONE OR BOTH HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. *TR
INTERMITTENT FUNCTIONING OF DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT ON 2006 PRIUS AFTER 37,000 MILES. DEALER/SERVICE SAYS IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND WILL COST $420 FOR THE ONE LIGHT. I EXPECT THAT THE OTHER WILL FOLLOW SUIT AND I'LL BE OUT ANOTHER $420 SOON. THIS IS A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT TO HAVE TO PAY FOR A HEADLIGHT, AND NOT GETTING IT FIXED IS, OBVIOUSLY, ILLEGAL AND A SAFETY HAZARD. SINCE IT IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE ONESELF, THEY SEEM TO HAVE "CORNERED THE MARKET" AND CAN THUS CHARGE WHATEVER THEY LIKE. *TR
MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2006 PRIUS THAT WE PURCHASED NEW. OUR PRIUS HAS THE EXACT SAME BRAKING PROBLEM THAT I READ ABOUT TODAY INVOLVING THE 2010 PRIUS THAT YOU ARE STARTING TO INVESTIGATE. APPLYING THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS WILL CAUSE REPEATED MOMENTARY LOSE OF BRAKING. I NEVER REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER. WHENEVER THE CONTACT WOULD ATTEMPT TO APPLY THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH OVER A SLIPPERY ROAD SURFACE, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT FULLY ENGAGE WHICH ALSO INCREASED THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT HAS NOTICED THE FAILURE SINCE THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50000. LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY WHEN SLOWING OVER POTHOLES AND LOOSE PAVEMENT. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED IN THE 2010 PRIUS - I'M HERE TO TELL YOU, IT'S NOT A NEW PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2006 PRIUS AND IT'S DONE THIS SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW. AT FIRST IT ALARMED ME, NOW I'M USED TO IT - HASN'T BOTHERED ME ENOUGH TO QUIT DRIVING IT OR TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THIS. HAPPENS 5-10 TIMES PER WEEK. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID AND I WANT TO OFFICIALLY NOTE THAT THE BREAKING PROBLEM BEING DISCUSSED IN THE MEDIA IS NOT LIMITED TO THE 2010 MODEL. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM CONSISTENTLY SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW. I HAVE INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AS I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND EACH TIME THEY SIMPLY NOTED THAT THE BREAKS SHOULD BE WORKING FINE. THE ISSUE IS THAT AT SLOW SPEEDS AND TRAVELING OVER UNEVEN OR BUMPY SURFACES, THE PRIUS DOES NOT BREAK AS IT SHOULD. INSTEAD, THE CAR SEEMS TO JERK AND MOVE FORWARD WITH A SUDDEN ACCELERATION.
I WAS WALKING THROUGH A PARKING LOT WHEN THE PRIUS I WAS BEHIND BACKED UP INTO ME (I MOVED QUICKLY AWAY AND WAS NOT INJURED). I DID NOT KNOW THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO BACK UP BECAUSE IT MADE NO NOISE. I DID NOT EVEN KNOW IT WAS ON. I DON'T KNOW WHY I DIDN'T NOTICE ANY BACKUP LIGHTS, PROBABLY BECAUSE IT WAS A BRIGHT SUNNY DAY. I WOULD LIKE, AS A PEDESTRIAN, TO BE ABLE TO HEAR THAT A CAR IS RUNNING AND ABOUT TO MOVE. *JB
GAS TANK GAUGE SAYS ITS COMPLETELY FULL NO MATTER HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE TANK. AS OF THIS WRITING I HAVE DRIVEN APPROX. 120 MILES ON THIS TANK OF GAS AND THE GAUGE STILL SHOWS THE TANK AS FULL. IT HAS NOT YET BEEN FIXED. *NM
MY FRONT HEADLIGHT DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK RELIABLY. IT WILL STOP WORKING SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING, BUT MAY RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION WHEN I POWER OFF THE CAR. WHEN I TRIED TO GET THIS REPAIRED, THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE DISCUSSION BOARDS, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER PRIUS DRIVERS THAT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A DESIGN ISSUE WITH THE HEADLIGHT DRIVE ELECTRONICS. *TR
WHENEVER BRAKE IS BEING APPLIED AT THE TIME I GO OVER RAILROAD TRACKS OR ROUGH ROAD SUCH AS POTHOLES, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND IT FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES DISENGAGE FOR A SHORT TIME ON MY 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS PURCHASED NEW IN 2006.. MY HUSBAND'S SUBURU FORESTER DOES NOT GIVE THIS UNSETTLING FEELING, AS IF LOSING CONTROL, WHEN IN ANTI-LOCK BRAKING MODE. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, ON AN OCCASIONAL BASIS. I REPORTED IT TO MY TOYOTA CAR DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT BEFORE MY WARRANTY WAS UP AND WAS TOLD "THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ARE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT." I SUSPECT IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE REGENERATION OF THE ELECTRIC BATTERY WHILE BRAKING SINCE THIS IS A DIFFERENCE FROM OTHER VEHICLES. *TR
MY 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS COMPLETELY LOSES BRAKING WHEN I RUN OVER ROUGH ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN MARCH OF 2006. I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS WITH HID HEADLIGHT SYSTEM THAT CONSTANTLY GOES OUT. 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) ENGAGES WHEN STARTING ON WET PAVEMENT OR SAND/GRAVEL. THIS ABRUPTLY REDUCES POWER, WHICH IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC. THERE IS NO ABILITY FOR THE DRIVER TO DISABLE ITS OPERATION ON ACCELERATION. *TR
1. APRIL 1, 2006 I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS 4 DOOR SEDAN. 2. THE TIRES SHOWED CUPPING AND FEATHERING AT 14, 000 MILES. 3. THE TIRES WERE NOT SAFE TO OPERATE BECAUSE OF THE CUPPING ON ONE SIDE OF THE CAR AT 46,500 MILES. THE PROBLEM BECAME APPARENT WITHIN 2,500 MILES ON THE NEW TIRES. THE TOE IN WAS CHANGED IMMEDIATELY. TOYOTA FACTORY STOPPED ALL MECHANICAL CORRECTION BY THE LOCAL DEALER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING A RIGHT TURN AT 25 MPH WHEN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE WOULD NOT ENGAGE WHEN APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,000. ..UPDATED 01/04/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE FAILURE HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE REPLICATION AT THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. ON A RECENT RAINY DAY, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AT EACH BRAKE APPLICATION AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT APPLY FOR 1-2 SECONDS. EFFECTIVELY, LEAVING THE VEHICLE WITH NO BRAKES. THE ABS RELATED BRAKE FAILURE WOULD ALSO OCCUR ON BUMPY ROADS AT LOW SPEEDS WITH DRY PAVEMENT. UPDATED 01/11/12
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE GPS NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM DOES NOT ACCEPT ADDRESSES RENDERING IT INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE BECAUSE A REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *AK
BRAKES MOMENTARILY STOP WORKING WHILE BRAKING ON UNEVEN SURFACES SUCH AS HITTING A CRACK OR BUMP IN THE ROAD, BRAKING OVER A MANHOLE COVER, ETC. I WILL LOOSE BREAKING FOR ABOUT 1 FULL SECOND. I HAVE ALMOST HIT MULTIPLE PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT SO FAR HAVE STOPPED JUST IN TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. TOYOTA IGNORES MY COMPLAINTS, AS THEY SAY IT IS PART OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKES AND HOW THEY OPERATE, OR THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE WHEN THEY TEST IT. IT IS NOT NORMAL OPERATION OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKES!!!! I KNOW HOW ANTILOCK BRAKES WORK AND THEY DON'T LET THE CAR GO WITH OUT BRAKE FOR A FULL SECOND OR MORE. *TR
2006 TOYOTA PRIUS HID HEADLAMPS TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS OCCURS ALL OF THE TIME; FIRST ONE HEADLIGHT GOES OUT, THEN THE SECOND ONE... IN ORDER TO REMEDY FOR SHORT TIME YOU NEED TO TURN OFF HEADLIGHT AND TURN BACK ON. TOYOTA DENIES ANY WRONG DOING AND IT WILL COST $1000 TO FIX WHICH IS NOT FAIR AS I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN NUMEROUS TIMES TO BE REPAIRED AND NOTHING WAS DONE TO IT. VERY DANGEROUS FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT TELL IF THEIR HEADLAMPS GOES OUT. ACCIDENTS. *TR
A GASOLINE AND OR OIL SMELL IN THE CAR THAT PERMEATES EVERYTHING IN THE CAR. MY CLOTHES, COMPUTER BAG, PAPERS, JUST EVERYTHING THAT COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. I ALSO GET SICK FROM THE ODOR IE HEADACHES, NAUSEA, BLURRED VISION, DIZZINESS. I ALSO HAVE A BURNING TASTE IN MY MOUTH, THROAT AND EYES. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DOCTORS AND THEY THERE IS NO OTHER REASON FOR ME TO BE FEELING THE WAY I DO AND THAT IT IS THE ENVIRONMENT OF MY CAR THAT IS PRODUCING THIS VERY SERIOUS IRRITANT . THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER SAID IT IS FROM THE BROKEN BEARING THAT WAS REPLACED, BROKEN AND NOT MY FAULT. THIS MUST ALSO BE A RECALL PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY SAID IT HAPPENS ALOT. *NM
YOU NEED TO BROADEN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE 2010 PRIUS BRAKING ISSUE TO INCLUDE AT LEAST THE GEN II PRIUS (2004-2009). WHAT'S BEEN DESCRIBED IN THE PRESS (SINCE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO) REGARDING REPORTS OF BRAKING PROBLEMS ON THE 2010 PRIUS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR ME WITH MY 2006 PRIUS SINCE I GOT IT. I CHECKED AND POSTED TO PRIUSCHAT.COM ON IT YEARS AGO, AND FOUND MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. NOTE THAT THE COMMON WISDOM ON THE SITE IS THAT THE ISSUE IS ACTUALLY "TRACTION CONTROL" THAT AGGRESSIVELY DISENGAGES THE DRIVETRAIN WHEN THE WHEELS SPIN AT A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENTIAL, IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE DRIVETRAIN. THIS ACTION DISENGAGES REGENERATIVE BRAKING. THE SWITCH TO CONVENTIONAL FRICTION BRAKING HAS A DELAY, AND CAUSES THE (QUITE STARTLING AND SCARY) ABSENCE OF BRAKING FOR A BRIEF PERIOD. THIS EXPLANATION IS CONSISTENT WITH THE FACT THAT AN ANALOGOUS PROBLEM HAPPENS FOR ACCELERATION, WHEN HITTING UNEVEN PAVEMENT, POTHOLES, ETC. I.E., ACCELERATION IS MOMENTARILY DISENGAGED. (THIS, ITSELF, CAN BE QUITE STARTLING IF ONE IS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC, AND SUDDENLY LOSES POWER.) I MARKED THE INCIDENT DATE AS THE APPROXIMATE TIME I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. AS I SAID, IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE THE OUTSET. BEFORE I BECAME ACCLIMATED TO THE BEHAVIOR, I PROBABLY EXPERIENCED A STARTLING LOSS OF BRAKING ROUGHLY ONCE PER WEEK OR SO. ONCE I CAME TO RECOGNIZE WHAT WAS HAPPENING, I LEARNED TO EASE OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL MYSELF, AS I APPROACHED A PROBLEM FEATURE IN THE ROAD (LIKE A POTHOLE OR MANHOLE COVER) IN ORDER TO AVOID IT. SINCE THEN, I ONLY RARELY MISS SOMETHING, AND EXPERIENCE THE LOSS OF BRAKING PROBLEM PERHAPS ONCE EVERY FEW MONTHS. THE MATTER WOULD DEFINITELY BE PERCEIVED AS SERIOUS BY TYPICAL DRIVERS -- IT'S A HEART SKIPS A BEAT, WORRY THAT YOU'RE GOING TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU KIND OF FEELING. *JB
THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT (HID) GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING EVERY TIME WE DRIVE THE CAR. TURNING THE SWITCH ON AND OFF RESTARTS THE BULB BUT ONLY FOR A MINUTE OR TWO. WE HAVE BEEN STOPPED BY POLICE TWICE BUT SO FAR HAVE ONLY RECEIVED WARNINGS. THE CAR HAS 40,000 MILES AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AND WE DID NOT PURCHASE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, THE BULBS COST ABOUT $409 TO REPLACE BECAUSE THE BULB COSTS $316 OR SO. WE HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO INCUR THIS EXPENSE AND ARE UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AT NIGHT. I CURRENTLY HAVE A CASE NUMBER WITH TOYOTA EXPERIENCE AND THEY ARE RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM. INSTALLING A 2004 OR 2005 MODEL YEAR HID BULB OR HID ECU ON A 2006 OR LATER MODEL YEAR VEHICLE MAY CAUSE AN INTERMITTENT OPERATION/FLICKERING OF THE HID BULB. *TR
LOSE BRAKES MOMENTARILY WHEN THEY ARE APPLIED ON AN UNEVEN SURFACE SUCH AS RAILROAD TRACKS, POT HOLES ETC. ABS LIGHT FLASHES THEN BRAKING RETURNS AS LONG AS BRAKE PEDAL STAYS DEPRESSED. THIS HAS OCCURRED FROM THE TIME I BOUGHT MY CAR AND I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FUNCTION OF ABS BRAKES UNTIL I SAW THE DESCRIPTION OF THE 2010 PRIUS RECALL. *TR

AFTER GOING OVER SIGNIFICANT BUMPS OR POTHOLES, OCCASIONALLY BRAKES HESITATE TO CATCH. BEGAN WITHIN A MONTH OF PURCHASING VEHICLE. REPORTED TO DEALER, TEST DROVE FOR APPROX. 5 MINUTES AND COULD NOT REPEAT SO THEY IGNORED MY COMPLAINT. PROBLEM PERSISTS, BUT TO DATE HAVE NOT HAD VEHICLE FAIL TO STOP. HAVE OVER 80,000 MILES ON PRIUS. *TR
WHENEVER THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED AT THE TIME I GO OVER RAILROAD TRACKS OR ROUGH ROAD SUCH AS POTHOLES, THE BRAKES FEELS LIKE THEY DISENGAGE FOR A SHORT TIME ON MY 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS (PURCHASED NEW IN 2006). SOMETIMES THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON MOMENTARILY BUT NOT ALWAYS. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2006. I REPORTED IT TO MY TOYOTA CAR DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD "THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ARE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT." NOT IN ANY OF MY OTHER CARS THAT HAVE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. TOO BAD TOYOTA JUST CANT TELL THE TRUTH EVER. THIS IS ABNORMAL BRAKING BEHAVIOR. *TR
WHEN DRIVING ON ROADS THAT ARE CURVED, WHEN CHANGING LANES, OR ON STREETS THAT ARE WET, THE CAR FEELS UNBALANCED, AND REQUIRES A QUICK STEERING ADJUSTMENT TO REGAIN NORMAL OPERATION. INCIDENTS LIKE THESE OCCUR TOO FREQUENTLY, AT LEAST THREE TIMES A WEEK, AND WHEN THEY OCCUR, THE VEHICLE'S RED SKID LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED (I SUPPOSE IT IS RELATED TO THIS MODEL'S ANTI-SKID AND/OR TRACTION CONTROL FEATURE THAT WAS NOT STANDARD EQUIPMENT). TRACTION CONTROL WAS AN OPTIONAL FEATURE THAT THE DEALERSHIPS OFFERED IN MORE EXPENSIVE PACKAGES OF THE 2006 PRIUS BUNDLED TOGETHER WITH OTHER ITEMS THAT WERE NOT RELATED TO DRIVING SAFETY, WHICH MADE THE PACKAGES UNNECESSARILY EXPENSIVE, AND WAS A FACTOR IN MY DECISION TO NOT OPT FOR THIS UPGRADE. HOWEVER, GIVEN THE FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE, I FELT THE NEED TO REPORT THIS IN CASE OTHER DRIVERS ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES. THE DATE I HAVE SELECTED CORRESPONDS TO THE PURCHASE DATE OF THE VEHICLE, NOT TO ANY PARTICULAR INCIDENT OR ACCIDENT, AS THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. FYI, TIRES, BRAKES, STEERING, AND ALIGNMENT HAVE ALL BEEN CHECKED AND MAINTAINED AS PER TOYOTA'S SUGGESTED GUIDELINES. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS INCLUDING 10 MPH OVER POTHOLES AND MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN, THE BRAKES LOST TRACTION. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT RELATED TO THE FLOOR MATS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
