TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW BEAMS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE PROPERLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE LOW BEAMS LIGHTS FAILED TO FUNCTION WHEN DRIVING. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE HIGH BEAMS WHEN THE FAILURE RANDOMLY RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAMS BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE YEAR AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT REPLACED THREE LIGHTS ON THE DRIVER AND TWO ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FOR THE LOW BEAMS BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS THAT REALLY HAS ME CONCERNED. TWICE RECENTLY WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, IT HAS LUNGED FORWARD AND I WAS FORCED TO PUNCH THE BRAKES VERY HARD WITH BOTH FEET TO MAKE IT STOP. IT REALLY SCARED ME. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOBODY IN FRONT OF ME OR I WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (WALKER TOYOTA IN MIAMISBURG, OH) TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT LOOKED BACK AT THE COMPUTER ON THE CAR AND SAW TWO INSTANCES WHERE THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR WERE PRESSED AT THE SAME TIME. SO NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO TELL ME IT IS USER ERROR. THEY SAID I MUST HAVE INADVERTADLY HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHILE I WAS BRAKING. NO I DID NOT!!! I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR OVER THREE YEARS AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. NOW IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. I DON'T THINK SO... I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND THEY ADVISED ME TO GET A SECOND OPINION. SO NOW I AM TAKING IT TO VOSS TOYOTA IN BEAVERCREEK. I ALSO NOTICED RECENTLY THAT MY GAS MILEAGE HAS DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. IT'S MUCH WORSE THAN IT'S EVER BEEN SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT. I'M NOT SURE IT IT IS RELATED OR NOT??? *TR

I WAS ENTERING A PARKING SPACE, I APPROACHED THE SPACE ABOUT 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, THE STEERING LOCKED AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE JUMPED THE CURBING AND HIT THE TRUCK IN THE NEXT RIGHTHAND SPACE. IT CONNECTED WITH THE TRUCKS LEFT FRONT FENDER. THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE. *TR
BRAKES DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY ON ROUGH SURFACE OR BUMPY ROAD I HAVE REPORTED COUPLE OF TIMES TO THE DEALER BUT DEALER TRY TO MISLEAD AND CONFUSED ME BY SAYING THAT IT IS ABS SYSTEM WHICH BECOMES ACTIVE ON BUMPY ROAD AND IT IS A NORMAL BRAKE OPERATION AND WE HAVE NO RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO? THANKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. IN ORDER TO STOP THE ACCELERATION THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED AND OR REPAIRED.THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 46,000.
LOW BEAM BULBS CONSTANTLY FAILING, HAVE TO REPLACE EVERY FEW MONTHS! SOMETIMES BOTH BULBS WILL FAIL AT THE SAME TIME, LEAVING YOU WITH ONLY HIGH BEAMS. TOYOTA ISSUED A TSB IN 10/12 ABOUT A FIX INVOLVING MODIFICATION TO THE WIRING HARNESS BUT SAYS THEY WILL ONLY REPAIR THIS PROBLEM FOR CARS UNDER 36K MILES OR 36 MONTHS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE, WHICH MEANS MANY OF THE CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM WERE ALREADY OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD WHEN THE TSB WAS ISSUED. NO HEADLIGHTS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ANY OWNER WITH THIS PROBLEM AT NO COST. IT APPEARS THAT THE COST OF HAVING THIS TSB DONE IS SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS.
2010 PRIUS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. USING 5 QUARTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES IS NOT NORMAL!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT THEN CRASHED INTO A SIGN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 13,115.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ACTIVATED AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED CAUTIOUSLY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. ADDITIONALLY, WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT, AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WOULD OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
WHEN I STARTED TO DRIVE HOME, THE CAR WAS LURCHING WHILE BRAKING. IT WAS AN UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION. ONCE I GOT ON THE FREEWAY, MY BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT AND SLIPPAGE LIGHTS ALL CAME ON AT ONCE (ALONG WITH BEEPING NOISE THAT DOES NOT GO AWAY). I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF ROAD AND NOTICED THAT MY BRAKES HAD DEGRADED BY ABOUT 75 PERCENT.....WHILE I DID HAVE SOME BRAKES IT WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN ENOUGH FOR AN EMERGENCY STOP OR NORMAL TRAFFIC BRAKING. *KB
WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A HILL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE IT SUDDENLY WENT BACKWARDS AND HIT THE WALL OF THE RESIDENCY ACROSS THE STREET LIKE 500 FEET DOWN. CAR WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY DAMAGE BACK, TRAIN SUSPENSION AND ALL DOORS OUT OF FRAME. REPAIR WILL TAKE 8 WEEKS AT A COST OF 14850.00. THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS IN THE CAR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON I-680 NORTH TODAY AND SUDDENLY THE "BRAKE", "ABS" AND "SLIP INDICATOR" TURNED ON AND STARTED BEEPING. AT THAT TIME I DID NOT REALIZE WHAT HAPPENED, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO BRAKE THE PEDAL WAS REALLY HARD TO PRESS AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO SLOW DOWN. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN BY GOING ON A RAMP AND THEN REALLY PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKE WHERE THE CAR JERKED AND SLOWED DOWN. AGAIN THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. WHEN I TURN THE CAR ON AGAIN, THE SAME LIGHTS SWITCH ON AND THE CAR IS BEEPING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, THE BRAKE AND VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST LIGHTS SUDDENTLY WENT ON AND A BEEPING ALARM SOUNDED. THE BRAKES WERE NOT VERY EFFECTIVE, AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP THE CAR WHEN WE PULLED OVER. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY INFORMED US THAT THE ABS PUMP AND THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED...ON OUR ONE YEAR OLD CAR! PARTS ALONE TOTALED OVER $4000 DOLLARS, WITHOUT LABOR. TOYOTA WAS UNWILLING TO REPLACE, AS THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY FOR MILEAGE. CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE SYSTEM IN OUR CAR, BUT THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT TO COVER. ANGRY CUSTOMER, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE FACT THAT TOYOTA STATES THAT THEY WANT TO RESTORE CUSTOMER FAITH IN THEIR PRODUCT. WE WERE LUCKY THAT INJURY DID NOT RESULT FROM THE FAILURE OF THE PARTS NEEDED TO STOP THE CAR.
THE PRIUS SEEMS TO ACCELERATE WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKE AT SLOW SPEEDS--THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT JERKS FORWARD. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS WHILE I AM ON A ROAD WITH POTHOLES. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
THE AUTODIM REARVIEW MIRROR DOES NOT REDUCE GLARE FROM HEADLIGHT OF CARS BEHIND MY CAR. AUTODIM FUNCTIONALITY IS NOT AFFECTED BY TURNING THE AUTODIM FEATURE ON OR OFF (IT IS THE SAME EITHER WAYS). THE ONLY OPTION I HAVE TO PREVENT GLARE HITTING MY EYES IS TO TURN THE MIRROR AWAY SO I DO NOT SEE ANYTHING. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS THAT I SHOULD HAVE IT CHECKED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SHINES A FLASHLIGHT ON THE REAR VIEW AND REPORTS THAT IT IS WORKING FINE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SHAPE OF THE CAR'S REAR GLASS AND SPOILER PREVENTS THE HEADLINGHTS FROM HITTING THE SENSOR ON THE AUTO-DIM MIRROR. *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER STATES MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE AUTO-DIM FEATURE OF THE REAR VIEW MIRROR *TGW THE DEALER REPLACED THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AS THEY DETERMINED IT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AFTER THEY REPLACED THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE AUTO-DIM WORKED A LITTLE BETTER, BUT IT KEPT TURNING OFF. IT THERE WERE STREET LIGHTS, BUILDING LIGHTS, OR ONCOMING CAR HEADLIGHTS, THE AUTO-DIM MECHANISM TURNED OFF AND WOULD NOT TURN ON AGAIN, UNTIL THERE WAS TOTAL DARKNESS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT WAS HOW THE AUTO-DIM FEATURE WAS INTENDED TO WORK. *JB
I AM BEGINNING TO NOTICE MORE AND MORE TINY SPECKS EVENLY DISTRIBUTED ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT APPEAR TO BE IN THE MATERIAL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD BECAUSE NO AMOUNT OF WINDOW CLEANING CAN MAKE THEM GO AWAY. THE SPECKS ARE VERY DISTRACTING WHEN TRAVELING INTO THE SUN AND I BELIEVE ARE A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
3 TIRES HAVE FAILED ON A TOYOTA PRIUS WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. *TR
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON THIS CAR HAVE BEEN BURNING OUT FREQUENTLY (APPROXIMATELY EVERY SIX MONTHS) SINCE THIS FIRST INCIDENT. IN ONE INCIDENT IN DECEMBER, 2014, BOTH LIGHTS BURNED OUT AT THE SAME TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT FELL TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID CRASHING INTO SEVERAL VEHICLES HE TURNED ONTO A SIDEWALK AND HIT A STREET LAMP, WHICH THEN CRASHED ON TOP OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE POLICE OFFICER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THE BRAKES HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED PREVIOUSLY IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V039000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTI-LOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE) AND HAD THE RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,190 ....UPDATED 12/03/12 *BF UPDATED 01/11/12
WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE IT HAS BEEN NEW AND HAVE REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT HEADLIGHT ANNUALLY. THIS TIME IT WENT OUT JUST 4 WEEKS AFTER A LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE BULB. WHEN I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND COMPLAINED OF THE PROBLEM AND ASKED ABOUT A WARRANTY FIX I WAS TOLD THAT THE PRIOR BULB HAD BEEN INSTALLED INCORRECTLY AND NOW THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT SHOULD BE REPLACED FOR $500. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD. *TR
I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND, INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN, MY CAR SURGED FORWARD FOR ABOUT 20 FEET BEFORE BRAKES ENGAGED AND THE CAR STOPPED --- JUST BEFORE THE INTERSECTION (RED LIGHT). I BARELY AVOIDED HITTING A TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME (I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AROUND). ROAD SURFACE WAS DRY,WITHOUT ANY POTHOLES,BUMPS,ETC. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER. AFTER CHECKING MY CAR THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE COMPUTER DID NOT DETECT ANY MALFUNCTIONS, THE TEST DRIVE WAS ALSO UNEVENTFUL,SO THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS CAR'S BRAKING IS OBVIOUSLY UNPREDICTABLE AND IT IS ,WITHOUT A DOUBT, NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
WHEN I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN CAUSING ME TO RUN OVER THE CEMENT PARKING STOP AND CRASH INTO A CEMENT WALL. THE VEHICLE THEN BACK UP FROM THE CONCUSSION AND ACCELERATED ONCE AGAIN CAUSING ME TO CRASH TWICE. I FINALLY CAME TO MY SENSES AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I HAD BEEN NOTICING THE BRAKES FEELING STRANGE PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THIS CAUSED $6,400 IN DAMAGE. TOYOTA WAS ALERTED, HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND CLAIM IT REVEALED NO EVIDENCE OF ANY SORT OF MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT. IN MY HEART, I KNOW THAT IS NOT TRUE. THIS WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE AND I DREAD THIS HAPPENING AGAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE THEN ACCELERATED ABNORMALLY AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL. THE VEHICLE BOUNCED BACK AS THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED AND THE VEHICLE THEN CRASHED INTO THE CONCRETE WALL A SECOND TIME. THE CONTACT POWERED THE VEHICLE OFF IN ORDER TO STOP THE ABNORMAL ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND INSPECTION. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
CHEAP THIN BLACK PLASTIC ENGINE COVER FOR OIL PAN IS DEFECTIVE WITH ONE EDGE CRACKED 100% AFTER ONLY 5 OIL CHANGES SIMILAR TO AIRCRAFT ALUMINUM METAL FATIGUE. THIS PLASTIC FLAP UNDER OIL DRAIN PLUG IS NOW DRAGGING ON THE ROAD HANGING BY A SINGLE BOLT. RIDICULOUS TO FAIL AFTER OPENING AND CLOSING OIL DRAIN PAN COVER 5 TIMES. WE VIEW THIS AS A DEFECT COVERED UNDER OUR BUMPER TO BUMPER 7 YEAR 100,000 MILE PLATINUM EXTENDED WARRANTY CONTRACT FOR WHICH WE PAID $1870 ON 07-14-2009 FOR A NEW VEHICLE. MINOR SCRATCHES AND DUST ARE NOT PROXIMATE CAUSE OF FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN REVERSE WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY LUNGED BACKWARD TWO FEET. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR NUMEROUS DIAGNOSTIC TESTS BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REMEDIED AND THE CONTACT TRADED THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ABNORMALLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE ABS WARNING, TRACTION CONTROL WARNING AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER CONTINUALLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED BUT DID NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE BOOSTER WAS THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
OK, THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT (LOSS OF BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS) HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY IN THIS VEHICLE, DESPITE A RECALL IN 2010 AND "SOFTWARE FIX". THE DATE LISTED IS APPROXIMATE. I FELT COMPELLED TO PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION AFTER HAVING THIS HAPPEN TWICE IN THE PAST WEEK, IN THE HOPES THAT SOME PERMANENT FIX CAN BE MADE AVAILABLE, AND TO WARN PROSPECTIVE BUYERS TO BE CAUTIOUS. IN ALL INCIDENTS, WHEN TRAVELING OVER BUMPS IN A ROAD WITH THE BRAKES ENGAGED, THERE IS A SUDDEN SLIGHT "ACCELERATION", BUT IN ACTUALITY, PROBABLY JUST THE MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING. THIS HAPPENS WHEN GOING OVER: (1) MANHOLE COVERS (2) POTHOLES (3) SLIGHT DIPS IN THE ROAD (FROM SUBSIDING ROAD PATCHING AREAS). DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE WORSE IN WET CONDITIONS, AND HAS ONLY HAPPENED TO ME AT LOW SPEEDS (~5 -- ~ 20 MPH). NOTE THAT ORIGINAL CARPETED MATS WERE REPLACED WITH ONES THAT FIT A BIT BETTER, AND DO NOT CAUSE ANY ISSUES WITH THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. ONCE THE BUMP IS PASSED OVER, NORMAL BRAKING OCCURS. WHEN I FEEL THIS VEHICLE MOMENTARILY LOSE BRAKING, I QUICKLY LET OFF THE BRAKE FOR A SPLIT SECOND, AND RESUME BRAKING. I HAVE GOTTEN USED TO THIS DEFECT, BUT I SURE WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO INVESTIGATE AND PROVIDE A QUALITY RECALL FIX. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED. THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,500.

I PURCHASED MY 2010 PRIUS IN AUGUST 2010. FOR THE PAST YEAR, I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE AT LOW SPEEDS. WHEN BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, IF THE CAR HITS A BUMP OR A POTHOLE, IT STOPS BRAKING AND INSTEAD ACCELERATES FORWARD A BIT. IT IS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING AND I FIND IT EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS. I HAVE COME EXTREMELY CLOSE TO HITTING THE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I NOW HAVE TO TRY TO CONSCIENTIOUSLY ADJUST AND DRIVE VERY, VERY SLOWLY WHEN BRAKING ON UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES SINCE I HAVE COME TO ANTICIPATE THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, MANY TIMES THERE IS NO WAY TO AVOID THE CAR'S SURGE OF POWER. I BELIEVE THIS IS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH MY VEHICLE. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH WILL DEMONSTRATE THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS AND WAS NOT RESOLVED WITH THE RECALL IN MARCH 2010. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

AT THE TIME, A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, WITH TOYOTA'S KNOWN PROBLEMS, I TOLD MY WIFE TO REMEMBER THIS AND LET ME KNOW IF IT EVER HAPPENS AGAIN (WHICH IT HAS NOT). I OFFERED TO PAY TO FIX IT AS I AM ON ROADS REQUIRING DAYLIGHT HEAD LIGHTS ON SEVERAL TIMES A MONTH. I FEEL THAT TOYODA SHOULD RECALL ALL PRIUS AND FIX THAT PROBLEM, THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A DANGEROUS SISTUATION LIKE THAT ESPECIALLLY WHEN I CAN RECEIVE A TICKET FOR NOT USING THE HEADLIGHTS DURING THE DAY OR IF I DO NOT BEING ABLE TO READ THE SPEEDOMETER ETC. THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND BEGAN TO FLASH ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ERRATICALLY. THE VEHICLE HAD A DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE WHICH RECOGNIZED WHEN THERE WAS A VEHICLE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY AND WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NOT A VEHICLE WITHIN CLOSE PROXIMITY. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS MANUALLY DEACTIVATED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT USED THE CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE SINCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. HAVING A CAR ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY. THIS ACCIDENT RAISES THE CONCERN ABOUT SAFETY ISSUE OF TOYOTA PRIUS.ONE PART OF MAIN BATTERY CABLE UNDERNEATH THE CAR WAS NOT WELL PROTECTED OR COVERED. BRAKES FAILED. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. 160,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, I HAD NO BRAKES. WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN GEAR, I THEN HAD BRAKES. I HAD BRAKES WHEN I PULLED UP TO A STOP SIGN. AS I WAITED FOR TRAFFIC I THEN HAD NO BRAKES. WHEN I BEGAN TO MOVE I HAD BRAKES, BUT THEN AS I GAINED SPEED, THE BRAKES WENT OUT. I MANAGED TO STOP WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID: COMPLETELY FULL. DEALER SAID THE MASTER CYLINDER WENT BAD. ORGINAL BRAKES ON VEHICLE; NOT EVEN HALF USED. HIGHWAY MILES ON VEHICLE. VERY HOT DAY. I BELIEVE IT IS ELECTRICAL, DEALER SAYS MECHANICAL. HAD THERE BEEN AN ACCIDENT, THIS INCIDENT WOULD BE LOOKED INTO. AS IT IS, NO DEALER WILL LOOK INTO A CAR THAT IS OUT OF WARRENTY. I COMPLAINED FOR 5 MONTHS ABOUT THE BRAKES WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR NEW. DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. EVEN AFTER THE RECALLS, THERE STILL IS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. NOW I BELIEVE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER, -THE ELECTRIC COMPONENT PART OF IT- BUT TOYOTA WILL ONLY LOOK INTO IT WHEN THERE IS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION I HIT A POTHOLE & THE CAR SUDDENLY QUIT BRAKING AND REQUIRED ME TO DO EVASIVE DRIVING MANEUVERS TO ASSURE I DID NOT HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME OR THE LIGHT POLE AT THE INTERSECTION. THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED INTO THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT. THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AND THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR WAS PARTIALLY CLOSED DUE TO THE DAMAGE. THE DASHBOARD AIR BAG SIGNAL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS ILLUMINATED AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED BUT NOT PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE DOORS CANNOT BE LOCKED SINCE THE CRASH OCCURRED. THE PASSENGER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A MILD CONCUSSION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. SHE WAS CONCERNED SINCE THE SEAT BELT SHOULD NOT FAIL TO SECURE YOU WHENEVER A CRASH OCCURS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO COME UP WITH A CONCRETE DIAGNOSIS BUT STATED THAT THE FAILURE MIGHT HAD BEEN CAUSED BY A ONE VOLT OVER CHARGE ON THE HYBRID BATTERY WHICH HAPPEN AS A RESULT OF EXCESSIVE BRAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
