2010 TOYOTA PRIUS--INCONSISTANT BRAKING AND VARYING BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE REQUIREMENTS. WHEN BRAKING, BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL DISTANCE VARIES. AT TIMES NO BRAKE ACTION AFTER PEDAL HAS BEEN PARTIALLY DEPRESSED REQUIRING MORE BRAKE PRESSURE TO RE-ENGAGE BRAKES. SOMETIMES OCCURS WHEN GAS ENGINESWITCHES TO ELECTRIC OR VICE VERSA, OTHER TIMES INCONSISTENT BRAKE ACTION OCCURS WITH EITHER POWER SOURCE. FRANKLY YOU NEVER KNOW HOW THE BRAKES WILL PERFORM. TAKEN TO DEALER-I WAS TOLD NO PROBLEM FOUND. THEY WOULD NOT KEEP THE CAR FOR DAYS TO CONTINUE TESTS. THIS IS MY FOURTH PRIUS AND THIS VEHICLE HAS MORE PROBLEMS AND CONCERNS THAN ALL THE OTHERS COMBINED. *TR
AFTER CAR SITS FOR SEVERAL DAYS ENGINE WILL IDLE VERY ROUGHLY UPON STARTING FOR ALMOST ONE MINUTE. IDLE IS SO ROUGH THAT I THOUGHT THE ENGINE MOUNTS WOULD BREAK AND CREATES A VERY 4 LOUD RATTLING SOUND. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES, TWO AFTER SITTING FOR SEVERAL DAYS AND ONCE AFTER JUST SITTING OVERNIGHT. *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS-WHILE APPROACHING STOP LIGHT WITH BRAKES SLIGHTLY ENGAGED, LEFT FRONT TIRE STRUCK A POT HOLE APPROXIMATELY 15" IN DIAMETER AND TWO PAVEMENT LAYERS DEEP. VEHICLE BRAKES GOT SOFT AND CAR ACCELERATED BRIEFLY FOR LESS THAN ONE SECOND. BRAKING THEN RETURNED TO NORMAL FEEL AND ACCELERATION CEASED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS BRAKING FROM APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND APPROACHING A TRAFFIC STOP WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A SNOW BANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAIT FOR A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,000.
WHEN I AM DRIVING AND HIT A POTHOLE, THE CAR JOLTS FORWARD. IT'S A PRETTY SCARY FEELING TO BE OUT OF CONTROL WHEN THAT HAPPENS. I DON'T DRIVE OFTEN, SO I CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW MANY MORE TIMES THIS COULD HAPPEN. I DO LIKE MY CAR AND IS ONLY A YEAR OLD, BUT THIS IS QUITE CONCERNING. I AM EXTRA CAREFUL, BUT WHAT IF I HIT SOMEONE IN THE STREET OR THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE SEEN A FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME EXACT REASON. PLEASE SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
WHEN BRAKING OVER ROUGH ROAD, BRAKES FAIL. *TR
SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE WHEN STOPPING VEHICLE, AS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN OR STOPPED TRAFFIC, IF I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN ROAD, THE CAR JUMPS FORWARD. I HAVE NOT HIT ANOTHER CAR YET BUT FEEL THIS JUMP WHEN STEPPING ON BRAKES WHETHER IN DRY OR WET WEATHER COULD ONE DAY HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS IS INTERMITTANT. DID MENTION TO DEALER WHEN CAR WAS FOR IT'S TIMELY SERVICES. DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO RECALLS. *TR
HEADLIGHT BULBS KEEP BURNING OUT EVERY FEW MONTHS, SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR I HAVE BEEN CHANGING BULBS EVERY 2 TO 3 MONTHS. *TR
THE LOW BEAMS ON THIS VEHICLE FAIL ON A REGULAR BASIS. INITIALLY MOVING THE WIRING HARNESS WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE LIGHT WILL CAUSE THE LOW BEAM TO COME BACK ON, BUT THEN WILL FAIL AGAIN WITHOUT NOTICE. AFTER DOING THIS SEVERAL TIME OVER AN UNDETERMINED PERIOD OF TIME (UNDETERMINED BECAUSE IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME) MOVING THE HARNESS FAILS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THE LIGHT BULB NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (I'M ASSUMING MOVING THE HARNESS TO GET THE BULB TO RELIGHT EVENTUALLY CAUSES THE BULB TO FAIL). I PURCHASED TWO NEW LOW BEAM BULBS APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO AND AM NOW RETURNING TO THE STORE THIS MORNING THIS MORNING TO PURCHASE ANOTHER SET OF BULBS, WHICH WILL THEN LEAD TO MOVING THE WRITING HARNESS TO GET THE BULBS TO RELIGHT, WHICH WILL THEN ONCE AGAIN LEAD TO EARLY FAILURE OF THE NEW BULBS. *TR
MY 2010 PRIUS' BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND WHILE ON THE ROAD ON 1/22/11. THEN 2X AGAIN ON 1/23/11. AS A CONSUMER, I DO NOT KNOW WHO REGULATES CAR COMPANIES BUT I HAVE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY NEED TO 'DUPLICATE' THE PROBLEM. IN THE PAST, MY BRAKES WOULD ACCELERATE BEFORE IT WOULD CATCH AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT 'DUPLICATED' BY THE DEALER. THIS TIME THE BRAKES FAILED ME 3X WITHIN 24 HOURS AND I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH GOVERNMENT AGENCY TO REPORT IT TO AND WHAT BETTER OPTIONS I HAVE TO GET A RESOLUTION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS SHE TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE WAITED A COUPLE OF SECONDS BEFORE SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AGAIN AND THEY FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO FUNCTION THAT WAY ON UNEVEN SURFACES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 22,000.
WHEN DRIVING ON AN UNEVEN OR WET SURFACE THE BRAKES SEEM TO LAG FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE CAR HOPS FORWARD. *TR
WHEN BRAKING NORMALLY AND THE CAR PASSES OVER RIBBED ROAD SURFACE AREAS WHICH INDICATE A STOP AHEAD OR RAISED EXPANSION STRIPS, THE CAR OFTEN TIMES APPEARS TO SPEED UP. IT'S AS IF WHEN THE WHEELS COME SLIGHTLY OFF THE GROUND, BRAKING IS INTERRUPTED AND THE WHEELS SPIN MORE RAPIDLY. NORMAL BRAKING RESUMES WHEN THE TIRE REGAINS CONTACT WITH THE ROAD SURFACE, CAUSING A MINOR LURCHING FEELING. ALTHOUGH IT CREATES JUST A MOMENTARY OUT-OF-CONTROL FEELING, IT IS A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE FEELING OF NO BRAKING. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AT THE SAME TRAFFIC LIGHT AND EACH TIME IT CATCHES ME OFF GUARD. MY 2010 PRIUS HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN IN FOR THE BRAKING RECALL FIX. *TR
WHEN BRAKING, SUCH AS WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT, IN THE PRESENCE OF BUMPS, POTHOLES, OR ROUGH/UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES, THE CAR NOTICEABLY AND FORCEFULLY "LURCHES FORWARD", AND THERE IS MOMENTARY LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE'S STOPPING MECHANISM. *TR...UPDATED 02-03-15 *BF *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE CONTACT ABRUPTLY APPLIED THE BRAKES IN AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID CRASHING INTO A VEHICLE AHEAD OF HER YET THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. INSTEAD, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHOM PERFORMED A DIAGNOSED THAT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,030.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS FAILED AND COULD NOT BE RE-ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE LIGHT BULBS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. UPDATED 10/29/13*CN THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH OF THE LOW BEAMS WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY. ALSO, WHEN THE WIRES WERE WIGGLED THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON. THE DEALER SUGGESTED TO TURN TO THE VEHICLE OFF, AND THEN TURN IT BACK IT ON. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL OR COMPUTER PROBLEM.
I OWN A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHEN I WENT CHECK TIRE PRESSURE THE LEFT FRONT COVER ON THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF IN THE THREADS OF THE VALVE STEM JUST AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CAP. THE TIRE STILL HELD PRESSURE BUT THE INNER VALVE WAS EXPOSED DOWN TO THE POINT WHERE THE SEAL WAS. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR TO TIRES PLUS THE MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS COMMON. HE SHOWED ME A TROPHY JAR WITH THREE OTHER TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING VALVE STEMS IDENTICAL TO MINE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO TOYOTA AND THEY REPLACED THE TPM MODULE IN THE TIRE. I WORK IN AVIATION AND HAVE A BACKGROUND IN MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION. THE FOUR TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR UNITS I EXAMINED WE CRACKED IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE, RIGHT AT THE BASE OF THE DUST COVER. I SUSPECT CORROSION STRESS CRACKING. MY CAR HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT, NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE CAR OR THE VALVE STEM WAS APPARENT. *TR
I GENTLY DRIVE MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS IN ECO MODE TO MAXIMIZE FUEL ECONOMY. EVERY WEEKDAY, SINCE JANUARY 2011, I SLOW ON A CERTAIN ROAD TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. THE ROAD HAS A MANHOLE COVER RECESSED ABOUT 1 INCH INTO THE ROAD ALONG THE PATH OF MY PASSENGER SIDE TIRES. EVERY TIME I DRIVE OVER THIS MANHOLE COVER THE PRIUS COMPLETELY LOSES ABILITY TO BRAKE FOR ABOUT 1/2 SECOND, THEN BRAKING IS REESTABLISHED. THERE ARE OTHER SMALL BUMPS I DRIVE OVER AT OTHER PLACES WHICH HAVE THE SAME RESULTS TO THE PRIUS BRAKING SYSTEM. YESTERDAY (26 OCT 2011) SOMETHING DIFFERENT BUT POSSIBLY ASSOCIATED HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP. THIS TIME I WAS ACCELERATING AFTER HAVING MADE A RIGHT TURN FROM A COMPLETE STOP. WHILE STILL ACCELERATING AFTER THE TURN I SIGNALED LEFT AND PROCEEDED TO MERGE INTO THE LEFT HAND LANE. AS THE PRIUS RIGHT FRONT TIRE DROVE OVER THE REFLECTIVE LANE MARKER IMBEDDED IN THE ROAD SURFACE (THE MARKER STICKS OUT ABOUT 1/2 INCH FROM ROAD SURFACE) THE PRIUS WENT OUT OF CONTROL. THE CAR SUDDENLY AND SEVERELY PULLED HARD TO THE LEFT AND RAPIDLY SLOWED, I STRUGGLED AGAINST THE CARS ACTIONS TO AVOID HITTING THE RAISED CENTER MEDIAN. MY FIRST THOUGH WAS THAT I MUST HAVE HAD A COMPLETE AND INSTANTANEOUS BLOW OUT ON THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. MY REACTION WAS TO IMMEDIATELY REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THEN AS I WAS FURTHER ASSESSING MY OPTIONS AND THE SURROUNDING TRAFFIC THE PRIUS REGAINED CONTROL AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AS IF NOTHING HAD EVER HAPPENED. AS THE PRIUS REINSTATED CONTROL I HEARD A BEEP COME FROM THE DASHBOARD, HOWEVER I WAS NOT QUICK ENOUGH TO NOTICE IF ANY WARNING LIGHTS HAD ENGAGED DURING THE INCIDENT. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE DISPLAYS EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL. I ALSO CHECK THE CAR EXTERNALLY AND EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL. ALL INCIDENTS ARE ON HIGH QUALITY ROAD SURFACES WITH DRY PAVEMENT. DEALER INDICATES NO RECALLS. *TR
INCIDENT #1 ON JANUARY 5, 2011 - SUDDEN CHANGE IN BRAKING PERFORMANCE CAUSED CRASH. ACCIDENT OCCURRED IN COMPANY PARKING LOT. THERE WAS SNOW ON THE GROUND. I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. THE CAR INITIALLY STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. BUT AS I ATTEMPTED TO TURN TO THE RIGHT THE CAR STARTED TO SLIDE. I TRIED TO CONTROL THE SLIDE WITH THE BRAKES BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AND IT SLID INTO A STONE CURB CAUSING OVER $1,700 IN DAMAGE TO THE CAR. THERE WAS NO FEELING OF ANY BRAKING OCCURRING. THERE WAS NO FEELING OF THE ABS BRAKES PULSING TO CONTROL THE SLIDE. INCIDENT # 2 ON JANUARY 19, 2011 - SUDDEN CHANGE IN BRAKING PERFORMANCE CREATED DANGEROUS STOPPING CONDITION. I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT AN INTERSECTION GOING ABOUT 30 MPH. THERE WAS NO SNOW ON THE GROUND. THE ROAD WAS WET. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE CAR INITIALLY STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. SUDDENLY THE BRAKES WERE NO LONGER SLOWING THE CAR DOWN. I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS GOING TO FAIL TO STOP AT THE INTERSECTION. I INCREASINGLY APPLIED MORE AND MORE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. THE CAR DID FINALLY STOP AND DID NOT CROSS THE INTERSECTION. THE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE THAT I HAD TO APPLY WAS EXTREME - IT FELT LIKE A CAR WITH POWER ASSISTED BRAKES BUT THAT THE POWER ASSIST HAD FAILED. THERE WAS NO FEELING OF THE ABS BRAKES PULSING TO CONTROL THE BRAKING OF THE CAR.
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS VERSION 3. WHEN I PUSH THE DASH BUTTON TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE CAR SOMETIMES WILL ROLL 1-2 INCHES FORWARD BEFORE ENGAGING IN PARK. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON 01/04/2011, BUT STATED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL BECAUSE WHEN ENGAGING THE VEHICLE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN IN THE RIGHT POSITION FOR GO RIGHT INTO PARK VS. NEEDING TO MOVE A LITTLE BIT SO IT ENGAGES PROPERLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND SHE CRASHED INTO A FENCE. NO ONE WAS INJURED YET THE FRONT BUMPER WAS DAMAGED. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED BUT A REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE A SPECIAL RESEARCH TEAM WAS SENT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE FAILURE. AFTER THE INSPECTION, THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE CONTACT DROVE OVER A POTHOLE AND THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED IN EXCESS. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V039000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
MY DRIVING RECORD WAS CLEAN UNTIL THIS 2010 PRIUS. IN ONE YEAR I HAVE HAD TWO ACCIDENTS AND SEVERAL INCIDENTS, ALL OF WHICH I AM NOW CONVINCED DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. THE FIRST ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE END OF DECEMBER 2010. I WAS GOING ONLY ABOUT 10 MPH. I HIT THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY TO TRY TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. AT THE TIME I THOUGHT THE CAR DID NOT STOP BECAUSE OF ICE, BUT NOW AFTER THIS 2ND ACCIDENT AND RESEARCHING OTHER PRIUS REPORTS, I AM CONVINCED THIS FIRST ACCIDENT WAS ALSO BECAUSE THE BRAKES FAILED TO WORK. SINCE I DID NOT SUSPECT THIS AT THE TIME, I DID NOT REPORT IT OR HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED WHEN THE CAR WAS REPAIRED. THE 2ND ACCIDENT WAS LAST NIGHT, DEC 8TH, 2011. I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 25-30 MPH. THE BRAKES CLEARLY FAILED TO WORK, AND I HIT A CAR STOPPED AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD PLENTY OF DISTANCE TO STOP. THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN, IF ANYTHING, IT MAY HAVE SPEEDED UP, BUT I CANNOT DEFINITELY SAY THIS, AS I WAS TOO FREAKED OUT LOOKING AT THE CAR I WAS GOING TO HIT TO CHECK MY SPEED. THE ROAD WAS NOT ICY. THE IMPACT DEMOLISHED THE FRONT END OF THE PRIUS. MY AIR BAG ALSO DID NOT INFLATE. I HAVE WHIPLASH FROM THIS SECOND ACCIDENT. FORTUNATELY NO ONE ELSE WAS INJURED. I NOW REALIZE I HAD SEVERAL OTHER BRAKE 'SLIPPAGE' PROBLEMS LAST WINTER THAT DID NOT RESULT IN ACCIDENTS AND I DID NOT IDENTIFY THEN AS BRAKE PROBLEMS. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY SNOW TIRES, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE BRAND NEW. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE TIRE DEALER LAST MONTH WHO SAID THEY HAD NO OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT BRAND OF TIRE, BUT I SO CONCERNED I HAD THEM REPLACE THE TIRES ANYWAY WITH NEW ONES OF A DIFFERENT BRAND. I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH TOYOTA AFTER I STARTED TO RESEARCH 2010 PRIUS AND FOUND A RECALL ON THIS MODEL AND YEAR FROM BEFORE I LEASED THIS CAR. TOYOTA SAYS THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON MY VIN#. I WANT TOYOTA TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ACCIDENT AND TAKE BACK THE CAR. *TR
MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS COMES EQUIPPED WITH AN INTRUSIVE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM THAT CAN'T BE TURNED OFF MANUALLY. DUE TO THE RESTRICTIVE SYSTEM, THE CAR HAD BEEN STUCK ON SMALL INCLINES IN SEVERAL OCCASIONS. IF I CARRY TOO LITTLE SPEED, THE TRACTION CONTROL WOULD SLOW THE CAR TO A CRAWL AND PREVENTS ME FROM GOING UP SINCE IT DOESN'T ALLOW ITSELF TO SPIN ANY TIRES AND THEREFORE ALL FORWARD MOMENTUMS ARE LOST. SO, IF WHEN I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR 900MILES IN ACTUALITY, THE ODOMETER WOULD READ 1000MILES AND HENCE THE CAR IS AGING AT A FASTER RATE AS FAR AS MILEAGE IS CONCERNED AND ALSO THAT THE FUEL ECONOMY IS AFFECTED EVEN FURTHER SINCE THE CAR IS NOT GIVING EVEN THE 39-41MILES PER GALLON. THE DEALERSHIP MANAGER CHARLIE MONECO TELLS ME THAT IT IS NORMAL INDUSTRY STANDARDS FOR THE SPEEDOMETER TO BE OFF AND THAT THESE ARE NOT CERTIFIED SPEEDOMETERS. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER MANAGER [XXX] TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THAT IT IS WITHIN LEGAL LIMITS FOR THE SPEEDOMETER TO BE OFF. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER TECHNICAL MANAGER [XXX] BLANK TELLS ME THAT THEY TEST DROVE TO LIKE VEHICLES AND FOUND THAT BOTH VEHICLES DID THE SAME MILEAGE AND HENCE THE CONCLUSION THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING FOR A SHORT TIME. I HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS ISSUE AMONG OTHER PROBLEMS. I HAD A PROBLEM WITH A VEHICLE I ONCE OWNED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD STOP FOR NO REASON. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM BUT AS A PRECAUTION HE REPLACED THE SMALL WIRING HARNESS. MY CAR NEVER FAILED AGAIN. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER AMC CAME OUT WITH A DIRECTIVE TO REPLACE THE SMALL WIRING HARNESS ON ALL OF THESE CARS. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE TWO ENDS OF THE HARNESS WERE MANUFACTURED BY DIFFERENT COMPANIES THAT USED DIFFERENT PLASTIC.THE PLASTIC IN THE CONNECTORS WOULD REACT WITH ONE ANOTHER AND PRODUCE A GAS. THE GAS WOULD COAT THE CONTACTS AND CAUSE THEM TO GO OPEN. IN MY CASE WHEN I RESTARTED MY CAR THE CONTACTS WOULD ARC AND IT WOULD RUN OKAY UNTIL THE CONTACTS GOT COATED AGAIN. FOR THE ENTIRE TIME THAT I'VE OWNED THE 2010 PRIUS, THE CAR LURCHES AHEAD VIRTUALLY EVERY TIME I RUN OVER A POTHOLE WITH THE BRAKES APPLIED (I.E., APPROACHING A STOP SIGN). WHEN I MENTIONED THIS AT ONE OF MY FIRST APPOINTMENTS, I WAS ASSURED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. NOW THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND I'VE BEEN READING THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
I AM FILING A COMPLAINT ON A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE COMPLAINT LIST IS: THE EJECT BUTTON ON THE MANUFACTURED STEREO HAS MELTED. HAVE CONTACTED A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REGARDING THIS AND THEY TOOK PICTURES OF THE MELTED BUTTON ON THE STEREO, THEY SENT THE PICTURES TO THEIR DSPM DEPARTMENT, THEIR RESPONSE WAS, "APPEARS TO BE DAMAGED FROM AN OUTSIDE INFLUENCE." WE HAVE DISAGREED WITH THEIR CONCLUSION AND ARE AFRAID THAT IT MAY LEAD TO A POSSIBLE FIRE IN THE CAR? WE CONTACTED TOYOTA'S 800 NUMBER (1-800-331-4331) AND LET THEM KNOW THAT WE DISAGREED WITH THEIR CONCLUSION, IN WHICH WE WERE TOLD THEY WOULD GET BACK TO US IN THREE BUSINESS DAYS, WHICH THEY DIDN'T. WE CONTACTED THEM TO LET THEM KNOW WE WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CAR STEREO GETTING HOT ENOUGH TO MELT A BUTTON, COULD THIS POSSIBLY START A FIRE IN THE CAR? THEY RETURNED THE CALL WITHIN 24 HOURS. THEY ADVISED US ONCE AGAIN THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY AN OUTSIDE INFLUENCE WHICH THEY COULDN'T DETERMINE. WE WERE TOLD IF WE DIDN'T LIKE THESE RESULTS TO GET A LAWYER. MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS WOULD NOT START AFTER A BRIEF 45 MINUTE LUNCH WITH FRIENDS. WHEN I RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE AND LET OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL I DIDN'T KNOW THE CAR WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL. THIS ERROR WAS ON THE DASHBOARD "MALFUNCTION WHEN PARKING, PARK IN A FLAT PLACE AND APPLY PARKING BRAKE SECURELY". WHEN I LET OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR ROLLED BACK INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE PARKING LOT. I HAD TWO COWORKERS IN THE CAR WITH ME; THEY GOT OUT AND PUSHED THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY TO A FLAT LOCATION. CAR STILL WAS DISABLED. I CALLED TOYOTA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAITED AN HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK; AFTER ABOUT 45-50 MINUTES OF WAITING I WAS HIT BY A WOMAN THAT WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION; SHE BACKED INTO THE SIDE OF MY DISABLED CAR. I WAS PRESSING ON THE HORN AND SHE DIDN'T HEAR. THE IMPACT MUST HAVE FREED SOME STUCK COMPONENT OR SOMETHING BECAUSE 2 HOURS LATER WHEN THE TOW TRUCK FINALLY CAME, THE CAR WORKED AGAIN; NO WARNING LIGHTS ETC. TOYOTA LOOKED AT THE CAR AND SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. I TOOK A PHOTO TO DOCUMENT THE WARNING MESSAGE (PLUS HAVE 2 WITNESSES). *TR
GAS PEDAL DOES NOT ACCELERATE WHEN FOOT GOES DOWN ON IT 4 TIMES -- I DO NOT HAVE EXACT DATES 1. EARLY NOVEMBER, 2010 1 INCIDENT 2. JANUARY, 2011 2 INCIDENTS 3. UNKNOWN UNKNOWN 1. COMING DOWN THE 405 AT THE 101 INTERCHANGE, MY GAS PEDAL DID NOT PROPEL MY CAR FORWARD. I COASTED TO THE SIDE, TURNED OFF THE MOTOR, STARTED AGAIN AND ALL WAS FINE. I REPORTED IT BY PHONE AND GOT AN APPT. TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. 2. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AS I WAS COMING DOWN THE 101 INTO CAMARILLO. I STOPPED, RESTARTED AND WENT ON MY WAY. 3. IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT NOT ON AN INCLINE. I WAS GOING ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR ON A FLAT PARKING LOT. GAS PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND AND I CREATED A TRAFFIC JAM BECAUSE I COULD ONLY COAST INTO THE PARKING GARAGE. HERE ARE MY NOTES REGARDING THIS PROBLEM MADE CALLS TO TOYOTA CORPORATE TOTALLY UNRESPONSIVE- TAKE IT TO DEALER AND LEAVE IT THERE OR JUST CONSIDER IT REPORTED . THERE WERE CALLS TO THE DEALER AND CORPORATE REGARDING 3 OF THE INCIDENTS. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE THE CAR WAS CHECKED 3 TIMES- ONCE AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT AND THEN THE DEALER BROUGHT IN A COMPANY INSPECTOR - EACH TIME THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE BOX SHOWED 4 INCIDENTS. HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS TOYOTAS ANSWER IS ALWAYS THE SAME-- THAT I AM PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME!! THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO UNLESS ONE USES BOTH FEET. (I DO NOT DRIVE WITH BOTH FEET AND I CANNOT PUT MY FOOT ON BOTH PEDALS EVEN IF I WANTED TO) TOYOTA HAS NOT COME UP WITH A SOLUTION OR ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED THAT ONE DAY I WILL NEED TO ACCELERATE TO GET OUT OF DANGER AND THE GAS PEDAL WILL NOT RESPOND AGAIN. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS CAR. TOYOTA DOES NOT ACCEPT THAT. THEY SAY IT IS DRIVER ERROR. YET IT'S PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO DUPLICATE
