I RECEIVED DELIVERY OF MY NEWLY PURCHASED 2010 PRIUS ON 10/17/09. THE BRAKES LOCKED UP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DURING NOV AND DEC 2009, ON ROUGH ROADS AND DURING SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. I HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED 1/2/10 BY THE TOYOTA DEALER; THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CONDITIONS. ON APPROXIMATELY 2/4/10, THE BRAKES FAILED DURING AN ICE STORM AND THE CAR ENDED UP ON SOMEONE'S FRONT LAWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR PROPERTY DAMAGE, THUS THE INCIDENT WAS NOT REPORTED. FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND RECEIVED A LOANER CAR. WHILE THE DEALER HAD MY CAR, TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE PRIUS' BRAKES. THE BRAKES ON MY PRIUS WERE REPROGRAMMED 2/9/10. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD FOUR INSTANCES WHERE THE BRAKES LOCKED UP, THE LATEST OF WHICH WAS 4/21/10. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE TOYOTA DEALER BEING INSPECTED. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AT COLONIAL TOYOTA IN MILFORD AND ALL SUBSEQUENT SERVICE HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY THAT DEALER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON WET ROAD CONDITIONS AND ENCOUNTERED A POTHOLE. THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED WITH A DELAY RESPONSE PERIOD BETWEEN 5 TO 10 SECONDS. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND CONTINUED TO TRAVEL. THE VEHICLE HAD A PRIOR RECALL REPAIR ON MARCH 1, 2010 UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V039000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR: ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT/MODULE). THE REMEDY REPAIR WAS INSUFFICIENT AND FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER FOR RESOLUTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 4,860.
TOYOTA 2010 PRIUS BRAKE RECALL PATCH WAS ONLY PARTLY EFFECTIVE. IN THE WINTER THE CAR COULD LOOSE BRAKING FOR 6 TO 8 FEET AFTER HITTING A ROUGH SPOT, POT HOLE ETC. NOW IT SKIPS MAYBE 2 TO 3 FEET. THE DEALER AND TOYOTA FACTORY PEOPLE TELL ME IT'S NORMAL ANTI-LOCK BRAKE ACTION. I SAY I HAVE DRIVEN MANY CARS WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND THEY TO NOT LOOSE BRAKE ACTION, THEY PULSE THE BRAKES. THE TOYOTA FACTORY PEOPLE TELL ME THE CAR IS STILL BRAKING EVEN IF IT FEELS LIKE IT ISN'T. I DO NOT AGREE WITH THAT FOR A SECOND. THE DEALER WANTS TO TEST DRIVE THE CAR TO DETERMINE CONDITION. HOWEVER IT ONLY HAPPENS MAYBE ONCE A WEEK AND NOT AT EVERY BUMP OR JOLT OF THE SUSPENSION. I FEEL TOYOTA DOES NOT HAVE A PROPER FIX AND IS NOT WORKING ON ONE. THEY ARE TRYING TO TALK US PRIUS OWNERS INTO ACCEPTING THIS FLAW AS NORMAL FOR THE CAR. *TR
I HAVE A TOYOTA PRIUS AND IT HAS BEEN RECALLED ABOUT THE BRAKES. I SENT IT IN TO HAVE THE BRAKES FIXED, BUT I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. WHEN EVER I START TO STOP THE CAR AND THERE ARE BUMPS IN THE ROAD THE CAR SEEMS TO ACCELERATE OR THE BRAKES RELEASE. IT ONLY HAPPENS IF THERE IS BUMPS IN THE ROAD. I MADE A NHTSA COMPLAINT ON 1/27/10 FOR ABS/UNINTENDED ACCEL INCIDENTS IN MY PRIUS2010. SUPPOSEDLY TOYOTA CORRECTED THE PROBLEM ON 2/11/10. ON 4/20/10 @ 12:50 PM, MY PRIUS ACCELERATED DANGEROUSLY AS I WAS COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. THE CAR SHOT FORWARD THROUGH A RED LIGHT ON A BUSY BALTIMORE ARTERIAL. I WAS BRAKING THE CAR AND TRYING TO TURN IT TO AVOID HITTING A CONCRETE WALL OR CARS IN THE OPPOSITE LANES. I TURNED VERY SHARPLY,UNABLE TO BRAKE THE CAR; I FEARED IT MAY ROLLOVER. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE WHOLE TIME. I HOPPED A CURB ON THE MEDIAN AND CLIPPED A TRAFFIC SIGN. I THEN PARKED THE CAR AND PHONED THE POLICE. IT WAS AMAZING NO ONE GOT HURT OR KILLED. SINCE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER TOYOTA SAID THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM, I DO NOT TRUST THEM OR MY CAR. I WANT A REFUND FOR THIS CAR, I WILL NOT DRIVE IT AGAIN:IT IS A DEATH MACHINE. *TR
BRAKING ISSUE - 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WE PURCHASED A 2010 PRIUS LAST WEEK, ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF ANY/ALL RECALL WORK HAD BEEN COMPLETED AND WERE TOLD 'YES.' YET, I BELIEVE THAT THE DEALERSHIP MISREPRESENTED THE FACTS - BOTH MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED TEMPORARY LOSS OF BRAKING IN OUR NEW 2010 PRIUS WHILE GOING OVER ROUGH PATCHES IN THE ROAD AND OVER SPEED BUMPS/TRAFFIC CALMING BUMPS. WE BOTH DOUBT THAT THE ABS RECALL WORK WAS ACTUALLY DONE BEFORE WE TOOK POSSESSION OF THE CAR LAST WEEK, SO WE'RE TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY. I AM NOT AFRAID TO BUY A TOYOTA AND UNDERSTAND THAT OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS HAVE EXPERIENCED QUALITY ISSUES RESULTING IN RECALLS, BUT I AM VERY UPSET THAT WE ASKED ABOUT THE RECALL WORK AND STILL ENDED UP WITH A CAR WITH BRAKING ISSUES. AFTER TAKING MY 2010 PRIUS IN FOR THE RECALL FIX ON APRIL 1, 2010, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT SAFETY DEFECTS. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER WHO REPORTED IT TO CORPORATE AND ARRANGED FOR A FIELD TECH TO ANALYZE THE VEHICLE ON APRIL 13TH. THEY SAID WE WOULD HEAR FROM TOYOTA WITH IN TWO WEEKS I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THE DEALER SO I CALLED THE DEALER LAST WEEK. DEALER HAD NOT HEARD BACK. I FILED UNDER THE LEMON LAW. THEN DEALER INFORMED ME YESTERDAY 5/17 THAT THE CAR WAS HEALTHY AND THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. MY CAR EXPERIENCED THE SAME BRAKE FAILURE THIS MORNING, TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT. *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS "SURGE" WHILE BRAKING OVER BUMPY ROAD SURFACE...I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL MOD AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS WORSE THAN EVER!! WHAT GIVES?? *TR
DRIVING A 2010 PRIUS AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 65 AND 75 MPH THE CAR WANDERS IN THE LANE AND REQUIRES CONSTANT CORRECTIONS. WITH WINDY CONDITIONS IT IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STAY IN ONE LANE. THIS IS ON I-75 IN SW FLORIDA WHICH IS NEWLY PAVED, FLAT, AND STRAIGHT. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN SINCE THE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW IN DEC. 2009. SOFTWARE RECALL DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
IN MY 2010 PRIUS I HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENCE WITH MY BRAKE WHEN STARTING OUT IN REVERSE. FIRST TIME WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY, DON'T REMEMBER HOW LONG I WAS IN THE CAR UNTIL MY GIRLFRIEND GOT IN.. BUT WHEN I PUT IT INTO REVERSE I GOT A"STIFF" FEELING IN THE PEDAL AND IT FELT LIKE IT WOULDN'T GO DOWN ALL THE WAY... THE CAR SEEMED TO ACCELERATE BACK FASTER THAN EXPECTED WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE.... I LIFTED MY FOOT AND PUT THE BRAKE DOWN AND I STOPPED VERY QUICKLY (AS IF I WAS SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES) I THEN TOOK MY FOOT OFF AND REAPPLIED A FEW TIMES AND THE PEDAL FELT FINE. WE THEN DROVE TO THE LOCAL MARKET.. I SAT IN THE CAR WITH THE ACC MODE ON FOR ABOUT 5-8 MINUTES WHILE SHE WENT IN... WHEN SHE CAME OUT I STARTED THE CAR, WENT TO BACK UP AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED.... THIS WAS VERY DISCONCERTING IN A CROWDED LOT WITH LOTS OF PEOPLE WALKING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE CARS.... I BELIEVE I JUST HIT THE PARK BUTTON... THEN REAPPLIED THE BRAKE (WHICH NOW FELT NORMAL) AND I HAVEN'T HAD THE ISSUE SINCE.... THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN DISCUSSED IN PRIUS FORUMS AT LENGTH AND THERE IS A VERY CONSISTENT THEME TO THE INCIDENTS THAT TOYOTA SHOULD EXPLORE AND DEAL WITH. *TR
I OWN A 2010 PRIUS. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. NEVERTHELESS, EVEN AFTER THE ALLEGED REPAIR, PROBLEMS STILL HAPPEN WHILE BRAKING. SPECIFICALLY, IF I HIT A BUMP OR A POTHOLE WHILE BRAKING, THE CAR SURGES FORWARD. I WOULD SAY THIS HAPPENS TO ME MULTIPLE TIMES PER WEEK. *TR
SITTING AS A TAXI PASSENGER IN A BRAND NEW TOYOTA PRIUS IN BOSTON, THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE IN THE REAR RIGHT SEAT DID NOT WORK. I TRIED IT REPEATEDLY AND IT FAILED TO ENGAGE THE BELT...THE TAXI DRIVER WAS INFORMED AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS A BRAND NEW TAXI. SHE WAS VERY DISTURBED BY THE NEWS. I HOPE SHE REPORTED THIS TO THE CAB COMPANY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT INCREASE IN SPEED. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO APPLY CONTINUOUS, STEADY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL IT FINALLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR SPORADICALLY, MOST OFTEN WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE.
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING- LETTER FROM REGARDING TOYOTA PROBLEMS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE WENT TO START HIS VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START UNTIL PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE. AFTER TRYING SEVERAL THINGS, THE BRAKE FINALLY CAME ON. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V039000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR; ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT/MODULE) AND RECEIVED THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AFTER REPAIRS. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKES WOULD SPORADICALLY BECOME STUCK WHEN BRAKING IN REVERSE AND THE THEN WOULD BEGIN TO JERK VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,786.
I OWN A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. I WAS HAVING BRAKING ISSUES BEFORE THE SAFETY RECALL. IT WOULD ACCELERATE WHEN I HIT A BUMP WHILE BRAKING. I TOLD BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE FIRST DAY OF THE RECALL AND IT WAS "FIXED." NOW THE PROBLEM IS BACK. MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATES WHEN I'M SLOWING DOWN/BRAKING AND HIT A BUMP. *TR
I HAVE A NEW 2010 PRIUS WITH LESS THAN 1K MILES. ON 4-9-10 WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT I EXPERIENCED A SIMULTANEOUS LOSS OF BRAKING COMBINED WITH UNINTENDED SURGE OF ACCELERATION. MY PRIUS JUMPED THE CURB THAT WAS PERPENDICULAR TO THE PARKING SLOT AND STOPPED AS IT SLAMMED INTO A BRICK BUILDING ABOUT 8 FEET BEYOND THE CURB. I UTILIZED MY SAFETY CONNECT BUTTON TO RECORD THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AND NOW HAVE A CASE #. I WAS TOLD THAT SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT ME WITHIN 2 BUSINESS DAYS. I AM NOT AT ALL COMFORTED BY THIS VERY SCARY INCIDENT. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO HAVE MY 2005 PRIUS BACK AS I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. I AM SEEING THAT MY PROBLEM IS NOT UNIQUE BASED ON MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THIS NHTSA COMPLAINT SITE. *TR
WAS PARKING 2010 PRIUS SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THEN CAR STARTED GOING FORWARD AND HIT BUILDING,DRIVER APPLYING BACK AND CAR WON'T STOP. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS PROBABLY GOING 3-5 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. SHE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE IN EARLY MARCH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,700. UPDATED 05/26/10 *BF UPDATED 10/05/10*JB
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO REVERSE AND THE CAR THEN JUST LURCHED FOR A MOMENT. I JAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME VERY HARD AND CAME ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP . I HELD THE BRAKE AND THEN JUST SHUT THE CAR OFF. UPON RESTART THE VEHICLE WAS OK. IT DID NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AGAIN. THIS IS THE 4TH OR 5TH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME. THE CAR IS PARKED AND I HAVE TO PUT IT IN REVERSE. *TR
2010 PRIUS WITH ABOUT 14,500 MILES DRIVING ON SMOOTH, WET, PAVED ROAD 20 MILES AN HOUR ON A CURVE. NEITHER FOOT WAS NOT ON A PEDAL - CAR WAS COASTING FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AS EXPECTED, SLOWLY DECELERATING. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CURVE, WITH BOTH FEET STILL NOT ON EITHER GAS OR BRAKE, I FELT AND HEARD A NOTABLE SURGE OF HARD ACCELERATION DESPITE BOTH FEET BEING OFF THE GAS AND BRAKE. MY WIFE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT ALSO NOTICED THE SURGE. I IMMEDIATELY BRAKED HARD. THE CAR SLOWED SAFELY, AND THE UNREQUESTED ACCELERATION SEEMED TO STOP AS SOON AS I ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL. NOTHING WAS TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR BEFORE THE SURGE, DURING THE SURGE, OR WHEN THE SURGE ENDED AS I BRAKED - NOT A FLOOR MAT, NOT A STRAY OBJECT, NOT MY FOOT. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS EXACT PATTERN OF SYMPTOMS. IN THE PAST, BEFORE THE BRAKE SOFTWARE RECALL WAS DOWNLOADED TO OUR CAR, WE HAD MANY EPISODES OF TEMPORARY LOSS OF BRAKING POWER ON BUMPY ROADS. AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE PRIOR EPISODES HAD UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION ACCOMPANY THE TEMPORARY BRAKING FAILURE ON A BUMPY ROAD. TODAY'S INCIDENT WAS VERY DIFFERENT - I WAS NOT BRAKING, AND THE ROAD WAS NOT BUMPY. NOTE THAT THE 2010 PRIUS IS NOT ON THE RECALL LISTS FOR THE ACCELERATOR MODIFICATIONS, AND THAT A STICKY ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT EXPLAIN THIS BEHAVIOR. *TR
I HAVE THE 2010 PRIUS AND HAD THE BRAKE RECALL WORK PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. IT DIDN'T WORK. WHEN I GO DOWN A HILL AND HIT A SPEED BUMP EVEN AT 5 MILES AN HOUR WHILE BRAKING THE CAR DOESN'T BRAKE FOR A FEW SECONDS. I MOVE 5-10 FEET UNCONTROLLED. IF THERE ARE CARS BACKED UP AT THE STOP I WOULD HIT THEM. *TR
ALTHOUGH I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL (2010 PRIUS) LAST WEEK, THE VEHICLE REPEATED THE LOSS OF BRAKE/SURGE ISSUE THIS MORNING. I ALSO REPORTED TO MY TOYOTA DEALER LAST WEEK ABOUT ABNORMAL, SUDDEN BRAKING. WHEN APPLYING NORMAL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE BRAKES HAVE LOCKED VIOLENTLY, SENDING ME AND MY PASSENGERS AGAINST OUR SEAT BELTS. TOYOTA CLAIMED THAT THE RECALL MAY MAKE THAT BETTER. IT HAS NOT. THIRDLY, I REPORTED LAST WEEK TO TOYOTA THAT THE CAR HAS ON OCCASION SHAKEN VIOLENTLY AND MADE A LOUD CLANKING NOISE (LIKE A WASHING MACHINE OFF BALANCE) UPON START UP, CAUSING ME TO JUMP OUT F THE CAR FOR FEAR OF IT BLOWING UP. THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS. MY CO-WORKER, A FELLOW 2010 PRIUS OWNER, REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. VEHICLE REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER A RECALL, BUT AFTER A NO BRAKE INCIDENT CONSUMER QUESTIONS THE REPAIR. *GR THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON APRIL 3, 2010. HOWEVER, ON APRIL 6, 2010 HE HIT A SLIGHT BUMP AS HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND HAD A MOMENTARY FEELING OF HAVING NO BRAKES. THE VEHICLE DID STOP. HOWEVER, THE INSTANCE DID LEAD THE CONSUMER TO QUESTION THE ADEQUACY OF THE FIX. *JB
THE LED HEADLIGHTS ON THE PRIUS V ONLY CARRIES ABOUT 30 FEET ON LOW BEAM, SO THAT ONLY 30 MPH IS ALLOWABLE AT NIGHT DRIVING WITH TRAFFIC. HOWEVER, THAT IS NOT THE SPEED THAT ANYONE WILL DRIVE. THUS, ON LOW BEAMS EVERYONE OUTDRIVES THEIR LIGHTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS THAT WAS RECALLED AND REPAIRED IN MARCH 2010. IT WAS SO NOTICEABLE THAT MY WIFE ASKED WHAT JUST OCCURRED AND I TOLD HER THE BRAKES FAILED FOR A SECOND. I WAS AT ABOUT 20-30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THIS OCCURRED COMING UP TO A STOP LIGHT. AGAIN THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR THE RECALL PRIOR TO THIS. *TR
NEW 2010 PRIUS LL COMMUTER CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATES OR SCOOTS WHEN BOTH FEET ARE ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE TAKES THE SAME ROUTE TO AND FROM WORK DAILY. ON EVERY TRIP, WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL PASSES OVER A RECESSED MANHOLE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES. I IMMEDIATELY PUSH HARDER ON THE BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE MANHOLE IS ABOUT 30 FEET IN FRONT OF AN INTERSECTION, SO I AM ALREADY DECELERATING AND BRAKING WHEN I CROSS OVER THE MANHOLE. THIS IS SCARY BECAUSE, IF I THE CAR DOESN'T STOP, IT WILL TAKE ME OUT INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. BOTH FEET ARE ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE DRIVEN FOR OVER 40 YEARS, AND THIS THE STRANGEST THING I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. *TR
DESPITE HAVING HAD THE BRAKE RECALL ITEM FIXED ON MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, I CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE INSTANCES WHEN I DEPRESS THE BRAKE AND THE CAR SKIDS FROM SIDE TO SIDE WITH A SENSATION THAT THE END OF THE CAR IS LITERALLY LIFTING OFF THE GROUND. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME MULTIPLE TIMES AND TOYOTA HAS TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL FIXED ANY CONCERNS, SO THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANYTHING WRONG. ON ONE OCCASION WHEN THIS HAPPENED MY VEHICLE ACTUALLY BUMPED INTO A FIXED OBJECT, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER. I PURCHASED THIS CAR BASED ON TOYOTA'S REPUTATION AND AM NOW SO MISTRUSTING OF IT THAT I HESITATE TO PUT MY FAMILY IN IT. AS A CONSUMER I STRONGLY FEEL THAT I AND ALL OWNERS OF 2010 PRIUS' SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO OPT TO RETURN OUR VEHICLES TO TOYOTA AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELECT A DIFFERENT NEW OR USED VEHICLE OF THE SAME PRICE FOR WHAT WE PAID FOR OUR CARS. THE PROVEN CONCERNS ABOUT THE 2010 PRIUS SHOULD BE ENOUGH FOR THE NHTSA TO PUT PRESSURE ON TOYOTA TO ALLOW FOR SOME TYPE OF RESTITUTION. IT IS NOT AS SIMPLE AS JUST TRADING IN THE CAR AT ANY RANDOM DEALER BECAUSE THE REPUTATION OF THESE CARS HAS SEVERELY LOWERED THE MARKET VALUE. TOYOTA'S ERRORS SHOULD NOT BE PERMITTED TO HAVE A FINANCIAL IMPACT ON THOSE CONSUMERS WHO PURCHASED THEIR CARS. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER STATES BRAKE PROBLEMS. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED IT APPEARED AS IF THE SOFTWARE PATCH FOR THE 2010 PRIUS WAS NOT ENOUGH AS HE HAS EXPERIENCED ONE MORE OCCURRENCE SINCE GETTING THE PATCH ON MARCH 1, 2010. PRIOR TO THE SOFTWARE PATCH, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED BRAKE STUTTERING MAY BE 10 TIMES. THE CONSUMER STATED HE READ WHERE THE SWITCH FROM REGENERATIVE TO MECHANICAL BRAKING OCCURRED AT ABOUT 9 MPH HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE STUTTERING SEEMED TO OCCUR CLOSER TO 20 MPH. IT WOULD NOT JUST OCCUR WHEN HITTING A SMALL POTHOLE, BUT SOMETIMES WITH JUST STEADY BRAKING ON SMOOTH SURFACES. ON A SMOOTH SURFACE, THE FEELING WOULD BE A BIT OF A JERK. HE WOULD DECELERATE WITH PRESSURE AGAINST THE SEAT BELT AND HIS HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL, THEN THERE WOULD BE 1/4 OF A SECOND WHERE THERE WAS NO PRESSURE BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING, THEN HE WOULD JERK FORWARD AS THE BRAKES BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN, THERE WAS A SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT SENSATION WHEN HITTING A SMALL POTHOLE. THE MOST RECENT MOMENTARY BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT. THE CONSUMER STATED HE SLOWED DOWN TO 20 MPH WHEN HE FELT A DIFFERENT TYPE OF STUTTERING THAN PREVIOUSLY. IT MAY HAVE BEEN A DOUBLE STUTTERING, BUT IT SEEMED HARDER. *JB
WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKES WHILE APPROACHING A STOP I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD (LARGE POT HOLE). THE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE RELEASED FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 SECOND BEFORE THE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PAD RE-ENGAGED. THIS SAME SCENARIO CAN HAPPEN ANY WHERE FROM 0 TO 2 TIMES PER WEEK. IN THE WINTER WHEN THE ROAD SURFACE IS NOT CLEAR IT IS APPARANT THAT WHEN THE BRAKE "DISENGAGES" THE ANTI-LOCK DOESN'T ENGAGE BECAUSE THE CAR SLIDES. I HAVE SLIDE THROUGH A RED LIGHT, ONTO A BUSY STREET. FORTUNATELY THERE HAVE NOT BEEN CARS IN THE VACINITY. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH NO SOLUTION OR RECOMMENDATION.
SUGGESTION FOR TESTING TOYOTO ACCELERATION PROBLEM: THE TRACKS ON A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD CAN BEHAVE AS AN ANTENNA AND GENERATE FALSE SIGNALS TO THE PROCESSOR. CELL PHONE, GPS SIGNAL RADIATION, ETC., COULD BE CAUSING FALSE SIGNALS ON THE BOARD(S) IN THE TOYOTO VEHICLES. CHECK IT OUT !!
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS AND HAD IT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECENT RECALL. HOWEVER, I AM STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS BEFORE WITH THE CAR. WHENEVER I HAVE GONE OVER A BUMP THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT "JUMPS" FORWARD AND LOSES A LITTLE CONTROL.
WHEN I ENCOUNTER A BUMP WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES IN MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, THE BRAKES FULLY DISENGAGE MOMENTARILY. THIS CAUSES THE CAR TO JOLT FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. MY FOOT IS NOT COMING OFF THE BRAKE AT ALL WHEN THIS HAPPENS, SO I KNOW I AM NOT THE CAUSE OF IT. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE BY MAIL IN FEBRUARY 2010 TO ADDRESS JUST THIS ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK COMPLETED. IT WAS INTENDED TO FIX THE MALFUNCTION IN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM THAT CAUSED THE BRAKES TO DISENGAGE WHEN THE CAR HITS A BUMP. THE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED. THE BRAKES STILL DO THE EXACT SAME THING AND FULLY DISENGAGE WHEN I HIT A BUMP WHILE BRAKING. THIS IS UNQUESTIONABLY DANGEROUS AND A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2010 PRIUS BACK IN JULY OF 2009 AND HAD PROBLEMS STOPPING THE CAR WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE OVER A BUMP OR A POT HOLE ON THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE FOR A SECOND BEFORE COMING TO A FULL STOP. WHEN THERE WAS VOLUNTARY RECALL, FOR ME IT WAS MANDATORY BECAUSE THIS WAS A SERIOUS ISSUE BECAUSE IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A CAR IN FRONT OF ME, OR IF THIS WAS CLOSE TO AN INTERSECTION AND PEDESTRIANS, WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAPPEN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THE RECALL. THEY TOLD ME IT IS SOME SOFTWARE UPDATE. AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE SERVICED, I TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND NOTICED SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT IN THE RESPONSE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL. BUT THIS MORNING AS I WAS APPLYING MY BRAKE HEADING TOWARDS THE INTERSECTION TO MAKE A TURN, I HIT A POT HOLE AND THE ACCELERATED AGAIN AND I HAD TO QUICKLY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO AVOID COLLISION WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHATEVER THEY DID WITH THE RECALL DID NOT RESOLVE THE BRAKE PROBLEMS.
ABS BRAKES FAIL TO ENGAGE WHEN ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES HITS POT HOLE / SLIPPERY BUMPY SURFACE. THE CAR SURGES FORWARD DURING BRAKING BEFORE BRAKING RESUMES. THE RECALL AND FIX TOYOTO IMPIMENTED ON MY CAR ON 2/15 DID NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE, IT ONLY SHORTENED TO LAG TIME (PERIOD OF EXCELERATION - SURGE FORWARD). THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS AND IS STILL A DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER IN SMITHTOWN, NY WHO CONTACTED TOYOTA FACTORY AND THEY ADVISED THE DEALER, WHO ADVISED ME THAT THE CAR OPERATES AS PER SPECIFIATION. THE DEALER AND THE FACTORY DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT MY CAR! I DEMANDED A WORK ORDER WHICH THEY GAVE ME STATING "CAR TO BE BROUGHT BACK AFTER TOYOTA IS CONTACTED ADN ADVISES DEALER ON THE CONDITION". THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER CALLED ME TO SAY TOTOTA ADVISED THE CAR IS WORKING AS PER SPEC. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND THE DEALER WILL NOT LOOK AT THE CAR. SINCE THEY WORKED ON IT, I SEE NO CHANGE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE, AND THEY TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE. THE MECHANIC SAID HE DIDN'T EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEM. PRIOR TO THIS RECALL UPDATE TO MY CAR, I HAD EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE ONCE SINCE PURCHASE OF THE CAR ON 10/23/09. NOW SINCE THE ABS UPDATE HAS BEEN APPLIED, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE 3 TIMES IN 5 DAYS. I WAS DRIVING ON PICO BOULEVARD JUST PAST AVENUE OF THE STARS, GENTLY TAPPING ON MY BRAKES DOWN THE HILL FOR A STOP, WHEN THE CAR BRIEFLY ACCELERATED AND ALMOST REAR-ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. ADDITIONALLY, I EXPERIENCED THE BRIEF ACCELERATION TWICE WHILE BRAKING FOR PEDESTRIANS AT CROSSWALKS LAST WEEK. NOW, I AM EXPERIENCING THE SLIPPING SENSATION WITH THE BRAKES ABOUT 2 - 3 TIMES PER WEEK. I HAVE CALLING TOYOTA TOLL-FREE CUSTOMER SERVICE NINETEEN TIMES, BUT EACH TIME RECEIVED AN AUTOMATED MESSAGE STATING THAT THE COMPANY WAS EXPERIENCING HIGH CALL VOLUME AND WOULD BE UNABLE TO ANSWER MY CALL. I SENT TWO FAXES ON MARCH 6TH, ASKING THE COMPANY TO ARRANGE A SECOND SERVICE APPOINTMENT TO REPAIR THE BRAKES. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF RESPONSE FROM THE COMPANY. TODAY, ON MARCH 20TH, I CALLED TOYOTA SANTA MONICA TO DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM AND REQUEST A SECOND SERVICE APPOINTMENT. WHILE DRIVING DURING MY LUNCH BREAK TODAY, I AGAIN HAD THE BRAKES SLIP ON ME. I SPOKE WITH A SERVICE SUPERVISOR AT TOYOTA SANTA MONICA AT 500 PM TODAY TO ASK FOR A SECOND APPOINTMENT. HE DECIDED TO INSULT MY INTELLIGENCE AND TELL ME THAT WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING IS A NORMAL FEEL OF THE ABS BRAKES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I WANT THE CAR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE NHTSA RECALL# 10V039000 SERVICE BRAKES, AIR ANTILOCK CONTROL UNIT/MODULE WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE DEFECT WAS ELECTRICAL OR A DEFECT IN THE COMPUTER. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 5,300.
