I TOOK MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS INTO THE DEALER TO FIX THE BRAKING PROBLEM; HOWEVER, I AM STILL EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM ON A DAILY BASIS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY WERE UNCERTAIN AS HOW TO HELP. I'M VERY CONCERNED THAT I WILL CRASH INTO SOMEONE OR GO THROUGH AN INTERSECTION BECAUSE OF THE RELEASE OF THE BRAKE. *TR
1. ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH, 2010 I HAD MY 2010 PRIUS "FIXED" AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR THE BRAKE/ACCELERATION RECALL. I HAD EXPERIENCED BRAKING/ACCELERATION ISSUES ONLY 3 TIMES IN 5 MONTHS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE BEFORE HAVING IT RECALLED. 2. IN THE LAST 2 DAYS I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE BRAKING/ACCELERATION PROBLEM TWICE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN WORSE. ESSENTIALLY WHAT OCCURS IS A SUDDEN JERKING FORWARD OF THE CAR, WHETHER OR NOT THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS DEPRESSED, TYPICALLY WHEN GOING OVER ROUGH TERRAIN OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT. I OCCURRED BOTH TIMES AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS BETWEEN 10-20 MILES AN HOUR AND THE ACCELERATION LASTED ONLY A SECOND OR 2, BUT IS VERY ALARMING, ESPECIALLY IF A CAR IS IN FRONT OF YOU. *TR
HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE ON MY 2010 PRIUS LAST WEEK, AND THE PROBLEM (SURGE WHEN BRAKING OVER POTHOLE, RR TRACKS, ETC) HAS NOW HAPPENED TWICE SINCE THEN. I JUST SPOKE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT PARKWAY TOYOTA IN ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, WHO TOLD ME THAT, WHILE THE RECALL FIX WOULD LESSEN THE "SURGE" PROBLEM, IT WOULD NEVER TOTALLY GO AWAY BECAUSE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM ITSELF. SHOULDN'T THIS HAVE BEEN EXPLAINED TO ME, BY TOYOTA INC, OR PARKWAY? THIS IS STILL A VERY DISCONCERTING FEELING. THOUGHT THE RECALL WAS A TOTAL FIX, NOT A PARTIAL ONE. *TR
MY VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WHILE I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND WAS TRAVELING OVER A SMALL PATCH OF ROUGH SURFACE. IT FELT LIKE THE GAS PEDAL HAD BEEN STOMPED, BUT I WAS ONLY USING THE BRAKES. *TR
TOYOTA PRIUS 2010 ABS SOFTWARE UPDATE DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE - ABS TURNS OFF AND VEHICLE ACCELERATES WHEN BRAKING AND I HIT A BUMP - SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED ON 2/12/2010. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 PRIUS WHICH I TOOK TO CHAMPION TOYOTA IN HOUSTON FOR THE RECALL REPAIR ON FEBRUARY 12. ACCORDING TO THEM THEY PERFORMED THE BRAKE RECALL SOFTWARE REPAIR. HOWEVER, ON 3/3 WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK I EXPERIENCED THE BRAKE FAILURE PROBLEM AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE DRIVER STATED THE HER VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY REPAIRED PER THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL RECALL. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE, SHE WAS DRIVING 30 MPH OVER A POTHOLE; HOWEVER, WHEN SHE ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
WHEN BRAKING, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LURCHES FOR A SECOND OR SO, AS IF ON ICE. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES, ONCE NOT RELATED TO A POTHOLE. TOYOTA DEALER IN AVON CT APPLIED THE CORRECTION TO THE SOFTWARE, AND THE NEXT WEEK (LAST WEEK) THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, WHEN I HIT A WIDE, BUT NOT DEEP POTHOLE WHILE BRAKING, JUST BEFORE STOPPING AT THE END OF A HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP. IN THIS SITUATION, IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT NO CAR WAS IN FRONT OF ME AT THE LIGHT. ADDITIONALLY I HAD A PROBLEM WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION A COUPLE TIMES WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 10V039000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE) WHICH WAS PERFORMED. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED AND WHENEVER SHE DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR AN UNEVEN SURFACE AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THERE WAS A LOSS OF BRAKING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 7,500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
AFTER THE RECALL SERVICE ON MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, THE BRAKING SYMPTOM STILL OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS ON MARCH 2, 2010 AND ON MARCH 4, 2010. IN BOTH CASES THERE WAS A DELAY IN BRAKING WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED WHILE ON A MODERATELY BUMPY ROAD SURFACE. ALTHOUGH DIFFICULT TO MEASURE THE DELAY MAY HAVE BEEN BRIEFER THAN PREVIOUSLY, BUT IT WAS STILL SUFFICIENT THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY HAZARD IF THERE WAS A VEHICLE OR OBSTRUCTION IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
HAVING NOTICED AN APPARENT BRAKING LAG ON SEVERAL OCCASION WITH OUR 2010 PRIUS ON TUESDAY 02 OF 2010 I WAS COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN ABOUT A MILE FROM OUR HOME ON A COUNTRY ROAD. I STARTED STOPPING QUIT SOME DISTANCE FROM THE CORNER STOP SIGN AND OBSERVING THE DASH DISPLAY SHOWING THE POWER USAGE OF THE PRIUS TO TRY AND GET A INDICATION OF HOW MANY SECONDS OF LAG BETWEEN THE REGENERATED BRAKING BEFORE THE ELECTRIC HYDRAULIC BRAKES I COULD EXPECT. WHILE WATCHING THE DISPLAY, WITH MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHILE APPLYING LIGHT BRAKING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL ONLY I NOTICED THAT WHEN THE DISPLAY SHOWED REGENERATING BRAKING STOPPED. I WAS DOING LESS THEN 10 MILE PER HOUR APPROXIMATELY I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF BRAKING AS BEFORE BUT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE DISPLAY NOW SHOWED POWER BEING APPLIED FROM THE BATTERY TO THE ELECTRIC DRIVE MOTOR AND TO THE DRIVE WHEELS. I PUSH HARD ON THE BRAKES AND THE CAR CAME TO A STOP IN TIME THE DISPLAY SHOWED WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE HARD THAT THE POWER STOPPED BEING DELIVERED TO THE WHEELS THIS TIME AND AFTER STOPPING THE DISPLAY SHOWED THE DRIVE WHEELS STOPPED ROTATION AS USUAL. THIS ROAD WAS NOT BUMP AND RELATIVELY SMOOTH THE FULL LENGTH OF THE ROAD HAVING BEEN RESURFACED SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I THINK THERE MAY BE ANOTHER PROBLEM OTHER THEN THE ONE BEING REPORTED AS BRAKE LAG BY THE COMPANY. IT ALSO SEEMS TO BE INTERMENT WHEN IT HITS AND DURATION OF LOSS OF BRAKING. I HOPE THIS MAY SHED SOME LIGHT ON WHAT THERE PROBLEM IS. *TR
BRAKE PROBLEM WITH 2010 PRIUS. I WAS CROSSING A POTHOLE ON STREET AND PUT THE BRAKE ON BEFORE THE FRONT WHEELS GET INTO THERE. WHILE THE FRONT WHEELS ENTER THE HOLE, I FELT MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST BRAKING AND SPEED UP. IT LASTED FOR LESS THAN 1 SEC. I GUESS. THEN, EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. *TR
I HAD A BRAKING ISSUE, THE CAR WOULD NOT BRAKE AFTER HITTING SEVERAL POTHOLES AND GOING INTO AN INTERSECTION. THIS IS POST RECALL. THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED BY TOYOTA THREE WEEKS AGO. THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT FOR THIS VEHICLE WITH IDENTICAL SYMPTOMS. AFTER COASTING FOR 10 FEET OR SO, THE VEHICLE DID APPLY THE BRAKES. *TR
I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP WITH YOUR TOYOTA GAS PEDAL PROBLEM. I RENTED A PRIUS OUT IN UTAH A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS, THE CAR SEEMINGLY ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. I AM A MECHANICAL ENGINEER BY TRADE AND A HABITUAL GEARHEAD. I ALSO DID NOT BUY THE ACCELERATOR STICKING PROBLEM, SO I BEGAN INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT ON MY OWN. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS TRAVELING UP THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN IN A NEIGHBORHOOD. THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD. THE PROBLEM IS ACTUALLY QUITE SIMPLE. THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ATTACHED TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND MOVES WITH THE WHEEL. IF THE CRUISE IS ACTIVATED, SOMETIMES IN A TURN IT IS POSSIBLE TO BUMP THE CRUISE LEVER AND "RESUME" OR "ACCELERATE". DON'T BELIEVE ME - SIT IN ONE AND LOOK FOR YOURSELF. NEED MORE PROOF, HAVE A 6'2" PERSON DRIVE THE CAR AND POSITION THE WHEEL BETWEEN HIS/HER LEGS. I BET YOU AGREE! [XXX] *TR
I OWN A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS AND HAVE HAD MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE TO ADDRESS THE BRAKE RECALL. HOWEVER, TODAY I DROVE OVER A POTHOLE AND THE SYMPTOM OF THE RECALL (LOSS OF BRAKING POWER) OCCURRED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONE OTHER TIME IN THE PAST FEW DAYS SINCE I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL SERVICE. THE SERVICE APPEARS NOT TO HAVE ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM. *TR
DRIVING 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. SEEMED TO HAVE 'SKIPPED' FORWARD WHILE GENTLE BRAKING OVER BUMPY ROAD (SMALL BUMPS). CAR HAD ALLEGEDLY HAD ELECTRIC REPAIR TO ABS FOR THE PRIUS, HOWEVER; WILL TAKE TO ANOTHER DEALER TO CONFIRM. I REALIZE THERE ARE PRIVACY CONCERNS AS AN OWNER, AND I'M NOT LOOKING TO PUT EMPHASIS ON MYSELF, HOWEVER; AFTER SUPPOSED REPAIRS TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM I AM WORRIED THAT THE ELECTRONIC UPDATE TO THE PRIUS 2010 WAS NOT SUFFICIENT. THE SLIGHT 'JOLT' THAT I FELT MADE ME THINK INITIALLY I WAS BUMPED IN THE BACK OF MY CAR. THANKS AGAIN FOR INVESTIGATING THIS. *TR
I VISITED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR OF THE BRAKE RECALL OF THE 2010 PRIUS IN EARLY FEBRUARY. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS REPAIR HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM. A FEW DAYS AFTER THE FIX, MY CAR SEEMED TO ACCELERATE AS I WAS BRAKING AND HAPPENED TO BE GOING OVER A POT HOLE. THEN AGAIN JUST A FEW DAYS AGO, I WAS BRAKING TO MAKE A TURN AND HIT A VERY ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD. MY CAR AGAIN NOTICEABLY SEEMED TO ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH I WAS BRAKING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, PROCEEDING TO MAKE A TURN. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WITH A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE CONTACT WILL NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
BRAKING ISSUES IN MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS- AFTER "RECALL FIX". *TR
1. BRAKES DISENGAGED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE BRAKING TO A RED LIGHT AND WENT OVER UNEVEN PAVEMENT. 2. CAR IS PARKED IN GARAGE. IN THE MORNING I WENT TO START THE CAR AND UPON PUSHING THE START BUTTON THE CAR STARTED VIOLATING SHAKING AND MAKING A CLANKING NOISE. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED CAR OFF AS THIS WAS NOT A NORMAL OCCURRENCE. I PUSHED THE START BUTTON AGAIN AND CAR STARTED NORMALLY. 3. ON 4/1/10 TOOK CAR TO TOYOTA OF ORANGE FOR RECALL FIX OF THE BRAKES. ON 4/2 WHILE PULLING UP TO A STREET FROM A PARKING LOT THE BRAKES DISENGAGED. THE ASPHALT WAS VERY BUMPY IN THE PARKING LOT. I WAS ON A SLIGHT DECLINE. THE BRAKES DISENGAGED AND CAR LURCHED FORWARD. IT WAS WORSE THAN THE OTHER TWO TIMES. IT WAS SCARY. IF THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM. *TR
EVEN AFTER ALL RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED THERE IS AN ISSUE BRAKING WITH THE 2010 PRIUS. WHEN BRAKING OVER BUMPY SURFACES YOU OFTEN GET A FEELING THAT THE CAR IS ACCELERATING RATHER THAN BRAKING. I DO NOT THINK THE CAR ACTUALLY ACCELERATES - IT IS MORE OF AN ISSUE THAT THE BRAKES RELEASING WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF MY TOYOTA DEALER THEY DO NOT THINK IT IS A PROBLEM. WHEN IT HAPPENS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC IT CAN REALLY SCARE YOU! I WORRY LETTING MY KIDS DRIVE THE CAR. AND NO - IT IS THE ABS IS KICKING IN. *KB
THIS BRAKE PROBLEMS HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES. DURING APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS ON ROUGH ROAD SURFACES THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES BRAKING POWER FOR A BRIEF TIME THEN STARTS TO WORK AGAIN IF THE BRAKE PEDAL REMAINS DEPRESSED. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS A NUMBER OF TIMES AND IS QUITE FRIGHTENING. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN FOR THE RECALL AND SAFERCAR.GOV STATES THAT THERE ARE NO OPEN RECALLS. WHEN WE BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE TOYOTA DEALER WE ARE TOLD THIS PROBLEM IS "NORMAL" AND THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. (HOWEVER, I UNDERSTAND THAT THEY FIXED IT IN THE NEXT MODEL YEAR.) IN MY OPINION THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION AND IT HAS BEEN COMPLAINED ABOUT ONLINE BY OTHER PRIUS OWNERS. I ASK THE NHTSA TO REQUIRE TOYOTA TO FIX THIS IN THE NAME OF SAFETY. *TR
WE BOUGHT A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS II IN 7/2009. WE HAVE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS EXPERIENCED A BRIEF ACCELERATION OF THE CAR WHEN OUR FOOT IS APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO TRY AND SLOW DOWN. MOST OF THESE OCCASIONS HAVE HAPPENED WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND OFTEN WHEN TURNING A CORNER. WE DID HAVE THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE THAT WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE RECALL JUST 2 WEEKS AGO. STILL, MY WIFE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN WHEN COMING HOME IN THE CAR A FEW DAYS AGO. IT HAS HAPPENED IN TOTAL ABOUT 5 TIMES SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR IN 7/09 AND HAVE DRIVEN ABOUT 10,000 MILES. ON ONE OCCASION LAST YEAR I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR GOING AROUND A CURVE BECAUSE OF THE ACCELERATION. I DON'T THINK THIS IS SIMPLY A BRAKE ISSUE, THE CAR ACTUALLY SEEMS TO ACCELERATE BRIEFLY. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH PRESSURE, IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE WARNING LIGHT THAT YOU ARE SKIDDING ILLUMINATES. I HAVE ONLY TESTED THIS AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND NOT WHILE MOVING. I HAD THE PRIUS IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE IN GASTONIA, NC AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM BUT IT STILL HAPPENS. *TR
LEASED A TOYOTA PRIUS 2010. 2 WEEKS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT ON COMING IN FOR NO REASON. *TR
I EXPERIENCE THE BRAKE FAILURE ON PRIUS 2010, I TOOK THE CAR IN THE DEALER TO FIX IT BUT DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE FIRMWARE ALREADY UP TO DATE ON MY CAR. *TR
BRAKES TEMPORARILY DISENGAGE WHEN BRAKING. THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. TOYOTA SAYS THEY INSTALLED THE PROGRAMMING FIX A FEW WEEKS AGO BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT, THAT I SHOULD CONTACT TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHEN I'M BRAKING AND HIT A BUMP OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT. THE BRAKES STOP BRAKING FOR JUST A MOMENT. DEPENDING ON MY SPEED AT THE TIME, IT CAN FEEL LIKE A MOMENTARY PAUSE OR A SUDDEN, HEAVY PUSH FROM BEHIND. IT ALWAYS FEELS LIKE I"M SLIDING OVER THE BUMP. *TR
THERE ARE SEVERAL PROBLEMS I'VE EXPERIENCED WITH THE 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS PURCHASED NEW 10 DECEMBER 2009. 1. WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL: ~ THERE'S REGULARLY WHAT FEELS LIKE AN ENGINE SURGE WHEN THE FOOT BRAKE IS APPLIED TO TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL. THIS HAPPENS REGULARLY, INCLUDING ON SMOOTH, LEVEL, DRY ROADWAYS AND FREEWAYS AND AT SPEED SETTINGS FROM 45 TO 60 MPH. BECAUSE OF CONCERN ABOUT THIS I NOW MANUALLY TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL. THREE DAYS AGO THE CAR WAS TEST DRIVEN BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE, WHO REPORTED USING CRUISE CONTROL 6 TIMES AND TURNING CRUISE CONTROL OFF BY APPLYING THE FOOT BRAKE; THE REPORT WAS 'CRUISE CONTROL SHUT OFF IMMEDIATELY WHEN ENOUGH PRESSURE APPLIED [EMPHASIS ADDED] TO PEDAL.' ~ ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2010 AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SET AT 60 IN CRUISE CONTROL FOR SOME TIME THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR (LIKE A CAR BEING DRIVEN WITH THE "HAND" BRAKE ON, BUT MY CAR'S WASN'T ENGAGED) WHILE ON A DRY FREEWAY DOWNGRADE (GRADUAL, NOT STEEP). I TURNED OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL, CONTINUED AT THE SAME SPEED AND THE ODOR STOPPED. THIS WAS THE FIRST SUCH OCCURRENCE. I'VE USED CRUISE CONTROL REGULARLY BECAUSE OF USUALLY DRIVING ON FREEWAYS 6 DAYS/WEEK. THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT'S TEST DRIVE THREE DAYS AGO REPORTED 'NOT EVIDENT.' 2. SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE SEVERAL TIMES THIS SHIFTING WAS SUCCESSFUL ONLY AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES. ON ONE RECENT OCCASION AFTER SEVERAL TRIES AND ALSO TURNING THE CAR OFF, ON AGAIN, AND THEN UNSUCCESSFULLY RETRYING, I RESORTED TO USING THE SAFETY CONNECT SOS BUTTON. THERE WERE NO DOORS AJAR AND NO INDICATION OF THE CAUSE. ON FRIDAY 2/26 AT ~ 1:15PM, I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 PRIUS. IT WAS RAINING HARD OUTSIDE. AS I PUT ON BRAKES, THE CAR SEEMED TO ACCELERATE / DID NOT BRAKE AND DROVE INTO A PARKING LOT CURB. DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE FRONT END OF THE CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE OCCASIONS DURING WHICH MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE SEPARATELY NOTICED THIS SAME TYPE OF ACCELERATION / FAILURE TO BRAKE - PARTICULARLY WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN, DOWN A HILL, OR OVER AN UNEVEN SURFACE (LIKE A POTHOLE). NONE OF THESE OTHER OCCASIONS HAVE RESULTED IN ANY INJURY OR DAMAGE. FOLLOWING THE 2/26/2010 INCIDENT, I CONTACTED TOYOTA THAT SAME DAY. I WAS TOLD THAT A CUSTOMER RELATIONS MANAGER WOULD CALL ME BACK BY TUESDAY 3/2. DID NOT HEAR BACK. ON WEDNESDAY 3/3 I CALLED TO FOLLOW UP. AFTER BEING ON HOLD FOR 1 HOUR, I GAVE UP. SENT AN E-MAIL TO CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISING OF THE SITUATION. STILL DID NOT HEAR BACK. ON SATURDAY 3/6 I CALLED AGAIN. WAS AGAIN ON HOLD X 1 HOUR AND TOLD CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE OF WHAT HAPPENED - THEY APOLOGIZED AND SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE MY CONTACT INFORMATION. WAS TOLD I WOULD GET A CALL BACK BY 3/9. DID FINALLY SPEAK WITH AN AGENT ON 3/8 WHO NOW TELLS ME THAT I WILL GET A CALL WITHIN 10 DAYS. AT THAT TIME, I WILL BE OFFERED AN INSPECTION APPOINTMENT WITHIN THE FOLLOWING 30 DAYS. AND, WITHIN 30 DAYS AFTER THE APPOINTMENT I WILL RECEIVE WRITTEN NOTIFICATION OF THE OUTCOME OF THE INSPECTION. I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING MY CAR. I WOULD HOPE FOR A FASTER RESOLUTION TO THIS SITUATION. I WOULD LIKE FOR THE ABS FIX FOR WHICH THE 2010 PRIUS IS BEING RECALLED TO BE COMPLETED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. AND, I WOULD LIKE FOR THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR TO BE REPAIRED. *TR

DURING THE FIRST 5 MINUTES OF OPERATION IN THE MORNING THE CAR RPM INCREASES AND THE SPEED OF THE CAR INCREASES. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I HAD MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT AFTER SEVERAL MORNINGS OF RECREATING THE EVENT MY FOOT WAS NOT NEAR THE PEDAL. BOTH DRIVERS OF THE CAR EXPERIENCED THE SAME EVENT. *TR

WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO STOP BUT THEN IT LUNGED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN WHILE HER FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DRIVER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE THEN CAME TO A STOP AFTER HER FOOT REMAINED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DRIVER DID NOTIFY THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 10,000.
TWO OCCURRENCES: SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION WITHOUT ANY WARNING. FIRST TIME DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A LOOSE COMPUTER CONNECTION WHICH THEY SAID THEY TIGHTENED AND REBOOTED COMPUTER. SECOND OCCURENCE, THEY SAY THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AND HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS FOR ADVICE. STILL WAITING AFTER 6 DAYS. CONCERNED ABOUT THIS HAPPENING ON A VERY BUSY FREEWAY. WE WERE ON A HIGHWAY THAT WASN'T THAT BUSY AND WE WERE ABLE TO SAFELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. COULD BE DISASTROUS ON A BUSY FREEWAY WHERE EVERYONE IS GOING BUMPER TO BUMPER AT 75 MPH!!!

I BOUGHT A 2010 PRIUS IN NOVEMBER OF 2009. I SOON DISCOVERED THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT BRAKE PROPERLY AND A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER HEARD ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON THE NEWS. I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL AND A SOFTWARE PATCH WAS APPLIED TO THE CAR TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. THAT WAS 5 DAYS AGO. UPON LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR DID FEEL BETTER; THE BRAKES DID NOT FEEL AS SENSITIVE. HOWEVER, IN THE PAST FIVE DAYS I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME EXACT SENSATION OF THE CAR NOT BRAKING WHEN I HAVE BEEN RIDING OVER A ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD AT A SPEED OF LESS THAN 30 MPH. BUT IT'S NOT JUST A FEELING. THE CAR SURGES FORWARD MOMENTARILY. IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE I AM SKIDDING ON ICE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE FOLKS AT MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THIS PROBLEM WAS "NOT A SAFETY ISSUE." I DISAGREE. I AM AFRAID THAT I WILL LOSE BRAKING ABILITY AND HIT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE OR END UP IN AN INTERSECTION INVOLUNTARILY. I HAVE A FIVE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I REALLY WANT MY MONEY BACK. 2010 PRIUS BRAKES. AFTER MY FIRST COMPLAINT AND ALL THE NEWS ON THIS PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION AND AS I FIRST THOUGHT THE CAR DOES NOT JUST LOOSE BRAKING IT ACTUALLY ACCELERATES. WHEN BRAKING OVER ROUGH SURFACES OR POTHOLES AND YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL YOU FEEL THE CAR SPEED UP FOR MAYBE ONE OR TWO SECONDS. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP OK. I QUICKLY LET OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND REAPPLY THEM AND EVERYTHING STOPS FINE. I GET NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ALARMS AND NEVER KNOW WHEN IT MIGHT HAPPEN. STOPPING OVER THE SAME SURFACE THE NEXT DAY MAY NOT PRODUCE THE SAME RESULTS, PRETTY RANDOM PROBLEM. *TR
WE BOUGHT A 2010 PRIUS LAST JULY. SINCE BUYING THE PRIUS WE HAVE HAD THE BRAKES COMPLETELY STOP WORKING, DURING BRAKING AFTER DRIVING OVER A SMALL BUMPS (MANHOLE COVER, DISTURBED PAVEMENT, SMALL POTHOLE). THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED AROUND 10 TIMES. FORTUNATELY, AFTER COMPLETELY RELEASING THE BRAKES WOULD AGAIN BRAKE AFTER APPLYING INCREASED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. MOST RECENTLY THE BRAKING FAILURE OCCURRED THE DAY IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING HAVING THE 'BRAKE RECALL" MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY TOYOTA TO CORRECT THE BRAKING PROBLEM. THE "FIX" IS OBVIOUSLY NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. THE BRAKES ONCE GAVE OUT WHILE APPROACHING A PEDESTRIAN IN A CROSSWALK. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE. PLEASE HELP. WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW? *TR
WE HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA PRIUS. EVER SINCE WE BOUGHT IT, WE'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WHICH WAS POOH-POOHED BY THE DEALER, BUT NOW WE THOUGHT IT BEST TO REPORT IT. THIS PROBLEM MANIFESTS ITSELF WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED AND WE DRIVE OVER AN UNEVEN SURFACE OR A VERY COMMON IRREGULARITY IN THE PAVEMENT....LIKE WHEN DRIVING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY, WHICH INVOLVES A SMALL ELEVATION GRADE CHANGE BETWEEN THE DRIVEWAY AND THE STREET. MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS DRIFTS WHEN I'M TRYING TO DRIVE THE CAR STRAIGHT. THE CAR IS VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT AHEAD POSITION. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS - I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS FOR A SHORT PERIOD AS A COMPANY CAR. I NOTICED THAT WHEN THE BATTERY GOT LOW WHILE IN PARK THE ENGINE WOULD KICK IN TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY. THE ENGINE WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO SLIGHTLY JERK FORWARD OR BACK WHICH WOULD BE EXPECTED BY THE FORCE OF THE ENGINE THRUST. WHAT WAS STRANGE IS THAT WHEN I WAS CROSSING THE STREET AFTER COMING OUT OF AN OIL CHANGE, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE WAITING FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR ONLY TO HAVE THE ENGINE KICK IN AND SLIGHTLY JERK THE CAR FORWARD. IT SURPRISED ME! LIKE I SAID MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND KEPT THE CAR FROM MOVING. I VISITED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO DISCUSS AND EMAILED TOYOTA TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF IT. AFTER HEARING MORE NEWS ABOUT TOYOTA I FELT I NEEDED TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION.
