I HAVE HAD A BRIEF FAILURE OF THE BRAKES ON MY 2010 PRIUS IV. I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN COMING BACK FROM THE SCHOOL WHERE I TEACH. I SLOWED AS I CAME UP ON ANOTHER VEHICLE STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT. ALTHOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, IT DID NOT START TO BRAKE FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS. I NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
2010 PRIUS BRAKING PROBLEM. WE THOUGHT IS WAS US OR THE CAR. WE BOUGHT IN AUGUST 2009. MY WIFE ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR ON 2/4. SLOW SPEED, BUMPS, THE CAR DID NOT APPEAR TO STOP WHILE BRAKING, THEN IT FINALLY STOPPED. I TOLD MY WIFE OF PROBLEMS EARLIER, BUT THEY WERE PERIODIC. *TR
WHEN BRAKING TO A STOP AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS, IF YOU HIT A BUMP OR A POTHOLE, THE CAR STOPS BREAKING AND LURCHES FORWARD. THIS LASTS FOR LESS THAN A SECOND BEFORE NORMAL BRAKING RESUMES. *TR
MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS IN NOVEMBER 2009. WE BOTH HAVE NOTICED A SORT OF JERKY FEELING WHILE BRAKING OVER A SMALL BUMP OR POTHOLE BUT WE DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT UNTIL LAST NIGHT WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY CHILDREN. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT ABOUT 30 MILES/HR. AND WAS SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. WHILE I WAS BRAKING I HIT A MEDIUM SIZED POT HOLE. MY CAR JUST LEAPT FORWARD ABOUT 10 FEET. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE FIRMLY THE ENTIRE TIME BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. FINALLY MY CAR CAME TO A STOP. I WAS VERY SHAKEN BY THIS INCIDENT. IF THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD HAVE TOTALLY REARENDED THEM. I CAME HOME AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. I LEFT A MESSAGE WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. MY CALL WAS RETURNED BY THE MANAGER THIS MORNING. SHE SAID THAT SHE HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM TOYOTA ABOUT ANY BRAKE ISSUES AND THEN SHE ASKED ME WHETHER I WAS SPEEDING! SHE DID NOT SEEM TO BELIEVE ME AND BASICALLY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO.*TR
THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS DO NOT ILLUMINATE UNDER LIGHT BRAKING. THERE IS A VERY DISCERNIBLE "GAP" AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL BEFORE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE. UNDER LIGHT BRAKING, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT WARN THE DRIVER OF THE CAR BEHIND ME THAT I AM ACTUALLY BRAKING. THIS RESULTS IN PEOPLE TAILGATING ME, AND SOMETIMES SOUNDING THEIR HORN SIGNAL AT ME, WHILE I AM SLOWING DOWN. ONCE THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED FAR ENOUGH -- UNDER MODERATE TO SEVERE BRAKING -- THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL EVENTUALLY ILLUMINATE. THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SEVERAL CO-WORKERS AND FRIENDS WHO ALSO OWN THIS MODEL OF PRIUS. ALL OF OUR CARS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. *TR
I OWN A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN I HAVE HIT A BUMP AND WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES AND THE CAR SEEMS TO SKIP OR FLOAT. ON FEB 4, 2010 I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND WAS BRAKING. JUST BEFORE THE STOP SIGN I HIT A BUMP AND THE CAR SLID THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AND INTO THE INTERSECTION. *TR
I'VE ALSO EXPERIENCED BRAKING ISSUES WITH THE PRIUS. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS GOING OVER POTHOLES, ROUGH ROAD, OR RAILROAD TRACKS WHEN BRAKING AT CERTAIN SPEEDS WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AT MODERATE FORCE. IT MOMENTARILY FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS ACCELERATING - IT'S QUITE DISCONCERTING. I'VE ALSO NOTICED VARIABILITY IN BRAKING DISTANCE EVEN ON SMOOTH DRY PAVEMENT WHERE I'VE HAD TO STEP HARDER ON THE BRAKES BECAUSE THE CAR WASN'T STOPPING AS EXPECTED. *TR
BOUGHT 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS IN NOV 2009. OVER 20 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, I HAVE EXPERIENCED SPLIT-SECOND LOSS IN BRAKING POWER WITH MY HYBRID CAR WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPY OR SLIPPERY ROADS. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY. ANXIOUSLY AWAIT A RECALL / REPAIR. *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS THE BRAKING SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED OVER BUMPY OR ROUGH ROADS. OCCURS EVERYTIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT A PARTICULAR INTERSECTION. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE AUGUST 2009. THE PROBLEM HAS EXISTED THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. 2010 PRIUS. HAVE A NUMBER OF INCIDENTS THAT AT FIRST THOUGHT THE STABILITY SYSTEM BUT NOW UNDERSTAND THAT IS NOT SO. HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES. WHEN GOING AROUND A CORNER ON WET ROAD AND APPLIED BRAKE HAD THIS LURCH FORWARD MOVEMENT. HAPPENED AGAIN ONCE ON ICE AND AGAIN WHEN GOING FROM ASPHALT TO SLIGHTLY RAISED BRICK ROAD AND WAS APPLYING BRAKES. WAS APPLYING BRAKES IN ALL INCIDENTS. IN ADDITION ON NUMEROUS OCCASSIONS HAVE STARTED CAR WITH THE BRAKE RECESSED. PLACED CAR IN REVERSE AND NOW THE BRAKE PEDDLE BECOMES TIGHT AND THEN NO LONGER SMOOTH BRAKING AND JERKY. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED AND IT CORRECTED ITSELF TO NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN MANY DIFFERENT MONTHS BUT TWICE IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY. ONCE WITH TURNING THE CAR ON AND TIGHT ABNORMAL BRAKE AND ONCE WITH THE LURCH WHILE DRIVING AND APPLYING BRAKE ON CHANGE OF PAVEMENT *CN
TOYOTA PRIUS 2010. MY CAR HAS A BRAKING PROBLEM , THE REAR WHEELS SEEM LIKE THEY ARE NOT HOLDING. IF YOU HIT A BUMP AND THE WHEELS ARE IN THE AIR =THEN GRABS THE GROUND . I THOUGHT THAT I WAS HITTING POT HOLES CAUSING THIS BUT THERE WAS NONE TO SEE . *TW
WE BOUGHT A 2010 PRIUS III AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2009. WE HAVE NOTICED A BRAKING PROBLEM AS FOLLOWS: WITH BRAKE PEDAL PRESSED, GOING OVER A BUMP, THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD 1 TO 2 FEET, EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE IS PRESSED AND CAR MOVING VERY SLOWLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 6 OR 7 TIMES, MOST RECENTLY 2/4/10. WE ARE CAREFUL TO STOP WITH SIGNIFICANT ROOM BEFORE A CAR AHEAD AT STOP LIGHTS AND INTERSECTIONS BUT CANNOT FORESEE ALL SITUATIONS. WE HAVE A TEENAGE DRIVER AND IT IS THEREFORE ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT THIS BE FIXED. WE HAVE REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER. *TW
TEMPORARY LOSS OF CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AS I WAS GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP. I FELT LIKE MY BRAKES HAD FAILED. *CN
I HAVE A 2010 PRIUS III THAT WAS PURCHASED ON DEC 23, 2009. I EXPERIENCED A MOMENTARY LOSS (APPROX 0.5-1 SEC) OF BRAKING POWER WHEN I WAS DRIVING OVER A ROAD WITH SOME BUMPS. ESSENTIALLY, THE BRAKES COMPLETELY CUT OUT, BUT CAME BACK WHILE I WAS HOLDING BACK THE BRAKE PEDAL. MY MILEAGE AT THE TIME WAS APPROX 4000 MILES. SO FAR, THIS HAS NOT REPEATED. ANOTHER ISSUE IS INCONSISTENT BRAKING. HOLDING THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN WITH CONSTANT FORCE (MY JUDGMENT) WILL CAUSE THE CAR TO SLOW ABRUPTLY WHILE AT LOW SPEEDS(<10 MPH). THIS IS A VERY DIFFERENT FEELING FROM THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING PORTION (FEELS LIKE LITTLE/NO BRAKING AT ALL) AND BRAKING AT HIGHER SPEEDS (>10 MPH). *CN

I BOUGHT A 2010 PRIUS ON 7/25/09 AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER NOTICED SOMETHING A BIT UNUSUAL WITH MY BRAKES AT SPORADIC TIMES. I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS JUST ME BUT WHEN I HEARD OTHERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BRAKES ON THE NEW 2010 PRIUS I CONFIRMED WHAT I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING. WHENEVER I BEGIN TO BRAKE AND EITHER (A) HIT A BUMP OR (B) BEGIN A TURN, THE CAR JUMPS OR LURCHES AS IF LOSING TRACTION FOR AN OVERLY EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF TIME LEADING TO A SHORT BUT SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF CONTROL. *TR

2010 TOYOTA PRIUS - ODD BRAKING BEHAVIOR. ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOPPED AND THE WHEELS ARE NOT TURNING, WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ORANGE "SKID WARNING" INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TURNS ON. I WAS DRIVING 2010 PRIUS TYPE III ON DOWNHILL. BECAUSE IT WAS DOWNHILL, I RELEASED GAS AND PREPARED TO PUSH BRAKE. THE ROAD WAS SLIGHTLY TURNED TO RIGHT SIDE AND THE SURFACE WAS A LITTLE BUMPY. WHEN THE CAR PASSED THE BUMPY SURFACE, IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT PUSH GAS. AS THE RESULT, I PUSHED THE BRAKE AND FORTUNATELY THE CAR STOPPED. HOWEVER, I DEFINITELY FELT THE CAR WAS ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AT HIGH SPEED(I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH IT WAS ACCELERATED). *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS FREQUENTLY ACCELERATES BRIEFLY WHEN BRAKING AFTER HITTING POTHOLE OR GOING OVER A BUMP. IN ADDITION, FREQUENTLY AT START UP, THE BRAKE PRESSURE IS EXTREMELY HIGH, AND THE SLIGHTEST RELEASE OF THE BRAKE CAUSES THE CAR TO LURCH RAPIDLY EITHER FORWARD OR BACK, DEPENDING UPON WHETHER IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. *TR
I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY 2010 PRIUS FOR 4 MONTHS AND EVERYDAY I DRIVE OVER THIS ROAD NEAR MY WORK THAT'S NOT A TOTAL FLAT SURFACE WITH A BUMP, MY PRIUS JUST JERKS AND SLIDES FORWARD AND ACCELERATES FOR A SPLIT SECOND. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IN THE 2010 PRIUS, THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE ALL BRAKING POWER IF YOU HIT A BUMP OR POT HOLE IN THE ROAD. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE, APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION. WHEN I DRIVE OVER THE BUMP IN THE ROAD (AND CONTINUE PRESSING THE BRAKE) THE VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD AS IF MY FOOT HAD RELEASED THE BRAKE. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE VEHICLE IS TO IMMEDIATELY RE-ENGAGE THE BRAKE FULLY. I HAVE CAME VERY CLOSE TO REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME DUE TO THIS DESIGN / MECHANICAL FLAW. I CAN RECREATE THIS SCENARIO EACH TIME I CROSS A CERTAIN PORTION OF THE ROAD I COMMUTE ON. *TR
I HAVE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WHILE BRAKING IN MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN I AM BRAKING AND THE CAR HITS A BUMP/POT HOLE. THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING ON THE 2010 PRIUS LOSE GRIPPING WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS ON THE ROAD. WHAT HAPPENS IS WHEN THE CAR GOES OVER BUMPY GROUND AND I AM USING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES SEEM TO LOSE GRIP AND THE DECELERATION IS REDUCED. I HAVE NOTICED THIS HAPPENING ABOUT 10 TIMES IN THE 6 MONTHS THAT I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED OVER A BUMP THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLES BRAKES WOULD SUDDENLY RELEASE FOR A SHORT MOMENT AND THEN WORKS PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 11000. THE CONSUMER STATED HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL PERFORMED ON THE BRAKES, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO EXHIBIT THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM WRITING ABOUT MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. I HAVE NOTICED FAULTY BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE, MAINLY WHEN I AM ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE ON SLIPPERY OR BUMPY SURFACES. I LIVE IN CHICAGO WHERE THERE ARE MANY BUMPY ROADS AND POTHOLES, SO WHEN I'M COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT AND NEED TO STOP OVER A BUMPY SURFACE, IT FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE LOCKING AND THAT I WILL SLIDE INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. BY PUMPING THE BRAKES, THE CAR WILL STOP, BUT IT IS A FRIGHTENING FEELING THAT I DON'T HAVE CONTROL OVER MY CAR. THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN IT IS RAINY OR THE ROADS ARE SLICK. THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUAL PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN AUGUST 2009, IN FACT I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER A FEW MOTHS LATER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEY CLAIMED THAT SINCE I HAVE NOT DRIVEN A HYBRID CAR IN THE PAST THAT I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH ITS BRAKING SYSTEM, AND THIS WAS HOW A HYBRID'S BRAKES WORKED. I DID NOT ACCEPT THAT ANSWER, BUT WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? I DO NOT WANT THEM TO REALIZE THERE IS A PROBLEM ONLY AFTER A CRASH HAS OCCURRED. *TR

AS I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT I BEGAN TO BRAKE EARLY BUT AS SOON AS I GOT CLOSE TO THE STOP THERE WAS A BUMP BEFORE IT AND MY CAR LUNGED FORWARD CAUSING ME TO STOP PAST THE WHITE LINE OF THE STOP SIGN. I PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID, [XXX] , ON 9 NOV 09. SINCE THAT TIME, AS RECENT AS LAST EVENING WHEN I PULLED THE VEHICLE INTO OUR GARAGE, BETWEEN MY WIFE AND I WE HAVE EXPERIENCED ON APPROXIMATELY SIX OCCASIONS THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE RECEIVED OTHER REPORTS ABOUT CONCERNING THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES. THE "RELEASE" AS I CALL IT, OCCURRED PRIMARILY WHEN WE HIT IRREGULAR PATCHES OF ROADWAY, SUCH AS POTHOLES, WASHBOARD-TYPE SURFACES AND THE LIKE. LAST EVENING, AS I MENTIONED, IT ACTUALLY OCCURRED AS I WAS ENTERING THE GARAGE. I APPROACHED A LITTLE FASTER THAN USUAL AND WAS BRAKING AS THE FRONT TIRES ENCOUNTERED THE ELEVATED CEMENT BEYOND THE BASE OF THE GARAGE DOOR. THE BRAKING ACTION WAS LOST JUST FOR A MOMENT AFTER THE IMPACT WITH THE CEMENT. IT'S NOT THAT THE ENGINE SPEEDS UP WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT'S THE FORWARD MOMENTUM OF THE VEHICLE THAT INCREASES WITH LOSS OF THE BRAKING ACTION. THAT HAS BEEN THE CASE EACH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. IN FAIRNESS TO THE DEALERSHIP, I HAVE NOT NOTIFIED IT YET BECAUSE I READ NOT TOO LONG AFTER THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED THAT OTHER OWNERS WERE BEGINNING TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM AND THAT TOYOTA WAS DEVELOPING A SOFTWARE FIX FOR IT. I ASSUMED SHORTLY THERE WOULD BE SOMETHING IN THE NATURE OF A RECALL AND OWNERS WOULD BE NOTIFIED TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES IN FOR THE MODIFICATION. I DO INTEND TO NOTIFY THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW, BUT THOUGHT IT NECESSARY TO REPORT THIS TO YOU NOW GIVEN THE SPOTLIGHT PUT ON IT TODAY. *TR
WHEN THE 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS GOES OVER A POTHOLE OR OVER AN ICE PATCH IS LOOSES BRAKING ABILITY FOR ONE OR TWO SECONDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, THE LAST TIME ON THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 3, 2010. *JB

TOYOTA PRIUS 4TH GENERATION PURCHASED ONE MONTH AGO. SURGES FORWARD WITH BRAKE DEPRESSED WHEN GOING OVER POTHOLES. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. SOMETIMES, PARTICULARLY WHEN I'M DRIVING OVER BUMPS, APPLYING THE BRAKE ACTUALLY CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO NUDGE FORWARD INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN. ONCE I HAVE CLEARED THE BUMPS, THE BRAKES THEN TAKE EFFECT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR MAY NOT ACTUALLY SLOW DOWN FOR AN EXTRA 10 TO 20 FEET. THERE WAS ONE INCIDENT WHERE THIS HAPPENED NEAR A CROSSWALK WHERE PEOPLE WERE CROSSING THE ROAD. THE CAR STOPPED IN TIME, BUT THIS COULD HAVE EASILY TURNED TRAGIC. TOYOTA HAS SAID NOTHING ABOUT THIS AND DON'T THINK THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. *TR
2010 PRIUS WHEN DRIVEN OVER POTHOLE WHILE BRAKING SEEMS TO SURGE FORWARD UNTIL THE WHEELS HAVE PASSED THE POTHOLE. THEN BRAKES SEEMS TO CATCH AND PERFORM NORMALLY. *TR
WE HAVE A NEW 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS TYPE IV THAT MY WIFE DRIVES. SEVERAL TIMES NOW SHE HAS EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM; WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND THEN SHE HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES REALLY HARD IN ORDER TO GET IT TO STOP. THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIME UPON HITTING A BUMP, BUT IT HAS ALSO OCCURRED ON A SMOOTH SURFACE ROAD. WE OBTAINED THIS NEW CAR IN SEPTEMBER 2009; SO THE FREQUENCY OF THIS PROBLEM IS PRETTY HIGH. WE UNDERSTAND THAT OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM... WE WOULD LIKE TO CONFIRM AND COMPLAIN THAT WE TOO ARE EXPERIENCING THESE SAME PROBLEM WITH OUR PRIUS. WE HAVE CALLED THE LOCAL CAR DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THEY ARE UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND OFFERED TO DO NOTING ABOUT IT. WE ALSO TRIED TO CALL THE TOYOTA EXPERIENCE CENTER BUT THE 800 NUMBER WAS OVER RUN WITH CALLS AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT PROCESS OUR CALL DUE TO HIGH CALL VOLUME. AT THIS POINT I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF THOSE IN THE CAR AND THOSE WHO MAY BE STRUCK SHOULD WE EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AT A CRITICAL MOMENT IN STOPPING THE VEHICLE. *TR
ON FEB. 3, 2010 THE BRAKES IN MY 2010 PRIUS FAILED ON SUDDEN APPLICATION AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I SWERVED RIGHT TO AN OPEN LANE, REAPPLIED THE BRAKES AND THIS SECOND APPLICATION WAS SUCCESSFUL AND SLOWED THE CAR. EVENT TOOK PLACE GOING 47 MPH ON CREST OF HILL WHEN CAR IN FRONT BRAKED SUDDENLY, AND I WENT FROM ACCELERATION TO SUDDEN BRAKING. PRIOR TO THIS EXPERIENCE I HAD MADE TWO COMPLAINTS TO MY LOCAL DEALER BECAUSE THE BRAKES OCCASIONALLY GRABBED VIOLENTLY WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THIS ACTION, SO I JUST PUT UP WITH IT. THE DEALER NOW HAS MY CAR AND HAS PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR AT MY REQUEST. *TR
WE HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS II, AND HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THE BRAKES NOT WORKING - ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING THROUGH OUR APARTMENT COMPLEX AND GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS. THIS HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE, SLOWING DOWN FOR TRAFFIC. THE DATE LISTED BELOW IS FOR THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING NORTHWEST ON NATIONAL BL, JUST PAST VENICE BLVD, IN MY 2010 PRIUS, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND, RATHER THAN SLOWING, THE CAR ACCELERATED FORWARD. I RELEASED THE BRAKE AND PRESSED IT AGAIN, VERY FIRMLY, AND THE BRAKES FINALLY CAUGHT. *TR
I HAVE EXPERIENCED BRAKE ISSUES ABOUT 6 TIMES, AND MY WIFE HAS HAD IT HAPPEN TO HER TWICE, SINCE I BOUGHT MY 2010 PRIUS AT THE END OF AUGUST 2009. THE BRAKE PROBLEM USUALLY WILL HAPPEN WHEN BRAKING ON AN UNEVEN SURFACE SUCH AS A POTHOLE OR A BUMPY ROAD. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE BRAKES WILL MOMENTARILY STOP WORKING AND YOU GET A JERKING/SPEEDING UP FEELING. *TR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES ON 2010 PRIUS (PURCHASED IN SEPT 2009), THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD WHEN IT HITS A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THIS IS A REPRODUCIBLE BEHAVIOR AND HAS BEEN OBSERVED SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE. *TR
WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND APPLYING THE BRAKES OVER A ROUGH STRETCH OF PAVEMENT, THE BRAKES "STUTTERED" OR SEEMED TO MOMENTARILY FAIL AND THEN CATCH AGAIN WITH CONTINUED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. CAR LURCHED FORWARD WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE AT THE SAME INTERSECTION. *TR
OUR 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS SURGES (ACCELERATES) FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND WHENEVER THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AS IT HITS A SMALL BUMP OR SLICK SPOT IN THE ROAD. THIS HASN'T CAUSED ANY ACCIDENTS, BUT WE DRIVE THE CAR PRIMARILY AT LOW SPEEDS (40 MPH OR LESS) AND HAVEN'T BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY SITUATIONS (YET) THAT REQUIRED EVASIVE ACTION. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT, AT HIGHER SPEEDS, OR IN A CASE WHERE SOMEONE PULLS OUT IN FRONT OF US AND WE HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKES QUICKLY, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND APPROPRIATELY. I HAVE TOLD MY TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM TWICE, AND THEY HAVE NO RESPONSE. ABOUT WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM. ALL THEY SAID WAS THAT THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED, AND THAT I SHOULD TOUCH BASE WITH THEM PERIODICALLY FOR UPDATES. THEY TOOK MY NAME ONLY WHEN I PRESSED THEM TO PUSH THE INFORMATION BACK TO TOYOTA MANAGEMENT. *TR
