HAVE EXPERIENCED THE 2010 PRIUS BRAKE CONDITION SEVERAL TIMES *CN
SINCE I PURCHASED MY 2010 PRIUS IN AUGUST 2009 I HAVE FELT THE CAR HAD BRAKING ISSUES, I.E. BRAKES SEEM TO NOT ENGAGE MOMENTARILY WHEN BRAKES DEPRESSED AS WELL AS BRAKES SEEM TO GO IN AND OUT WHEN I INITIALLY START UP THE CAR. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE NEW CAR WHICH I HAVE NOT GOTTEN USED TO AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE BROKEN IN. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE LATE DECEMBER DUE TO FEAR OF PROBLEMS IN THE RAIN. I HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR EARLY JANUARY IN THE MEAN TIME. *TW
1.I PURCHASED THIS 2010 PRIUS IN AUGUST 2010. I HAVE EXPERIENCED UNANTICIPATED ACCELERATION TWO TIMES SINCE THE LAST (INITIAL) SERVICE. ONCE WITH MY HUSBAND DRIVING ON ROUTE 17 AND THE OTHER TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A LOCAL ROAD. 2.AS I STATED IN MY SERVICE PAPERWORK WHEN THE CAR WAS FIRST SERVICED, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THEY DO NOT STOP ON UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES, SUCH AS POT HOLES, BUMPS, ETC. YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THIS IS CAUSED BY THE ABS AND IT IS ?NORMAL?. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT WILL BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. 3.WHEN START THE ENGINE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING (OR WHEN THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A WHILE) OFTEN, BUT NOT ALWAYS, IT MAKES A GRINDING NOISE WHEN STARTING *TW
1) 2010 PRIUS IV: AFTER APPLYING THE BREAKS LIGHTLY, IF TRAVELING OVER A BUMP OR MAN-HOLE COVER OR PAINTED PAVEMENT STRIPE. 2) THE BREAKS DISENGAGE WHILE STILL BEING APPLIED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PROGRESS WITHOUT ANY BREAKING. 3) AFTER TAKING THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE, I WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA HAS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND WILL CONTACT ME WHEN A FIX IS AVAILABLE. I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING BACK SO FAR.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE DRIVER STATED THAT SHE RECENTLY HAD A RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED ON HER VEHICLE FOR THE ACCELERATION; HOWEVER, SHE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. WHEN SHE DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN. SHE CALLED THE SERVICE MANAGER AND SHE IS WAITING FOR A RETURN CALL FROM HIM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN BRAKING FROM SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY SURGE FORWARD. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE AND CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,650.
MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS BRAKING OVER BUMPY ROADS. AT CERTAIN SPEEDS FIRM BRAKING OVER BUMPS CAUSES THE WHEELS TO FEEL LIKE THEY ARE SLIPPING. TOYOTA RECALLED THE VEHICLE, AND PERFORMED SOFTWARE UPGRADES THAT I FEEL DID NOTHING TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION. I RECENTLY BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO BE SERVICED AND MENTIONED THAT IT WAS STILL SLIPPING OVER BUMPS BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT ONE SPECIFIC INCIDENCE BUT MULTIPLE INSTANCES. *TR
I READ THE COMPLAINTS & FOUND ONE LISTED RECENTLY DATED 5/22/15 THAT DESCRIBES THE EXACT PROBLEM I HAVE. MY PRIUS IS A 2010 PURCHASED IN 7/09 & SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I NOTICED THE BRAKING ISSUE. THE FOLLOWING INFO IN QUOTES IS COPIED FROM THE OTHER COMPLAINT WHICH IS THE SAME ISSUE I HAVE - (OTHER COMPLAINT STATED) "WHEN YOU ARE AT LOWER SPEEDS AND HIT A POTHOLE OR BIG BUMP WHILE BREAKING, THERE'S A SUDDEN 'JOLT' AND IT FEELS AS IF THE BREAKS HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY RELEASED MOMENTARILY. IT ALMOST FEELS AS IF THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD. I FEEL IT HEIGHTENS THE CHANCE OF A CRASH DUE TO INCREASED DECELERATION TIME." IT SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE YOU ARE SLIDING ON ICE & HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. (AND IT IS SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS!) I HAD TOYOTA CHECK MY VEHICLE A FEW TIMES, BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO NOTHING WAS FIXED. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST MY CAR THIS WAS HAPPENING TO. NOW I FIND THAT I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS. THE COMPLAINT I REFERENCED STATED THAT THERE WAS AND A "PREVIOUS INVESTIGATION & PARTIAL RECALL BUT IT DIDN'T AFFECT ALL OF THE 2010 PRODUCTION VEHICLES, JUST A PORTION." I NEVER HEARD ABOUT ANY RECALL OR INVESTIGATION ON THIS. I AGREE WITH THE OTHER COMPLAINT THAT "THIS NEEDS TO BE RE-INVESTIGATED AS MY CAR AND COUNTLESS OTHER CARS (BOTH INVOLVED AND NOT INVOLVED IN THE LAST RECALL) ARE (STILL) MALFUNCTIONING WHEN IT COMES TO THE BREAKING SYSTEM AT SLOWER SPEEDS WHEN ON ROUGH ROADS / ENCOUNTERING POTHOLES / BUMPS." MY CAR STILL HAS THIS PROBLEM EVEN AS IT IS NOW 5 YEARS OLD. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE?
WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE ON A BUMPY ROAD THE BRAKES EITHER PAUSE FOR A SECOND TO APPLY OR THE ANTILOCK SYSTEMS SEEMS TO ENGAGE AND DIS-ENGAGE CAUSING A SERIOUS DISTRACTION WHILE BRAKING. THIS OCCURS DAILY AS THE AREA I LIVE IN IS MAINLY BRICK PAVED STREETS. *TR
SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE SEEM TO HAVE PROBLEMS ENGAGING; IT IS SLUGGISH AND I HAVE TO DEPRESS DOWN HARD ON THE PEDAL TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES. *TW
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS BRAKE ISSUE. WE ARE EXPERIENCING A MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING CAPABILITY WHILE TRAVELING OVER AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE, POTHOLE OR BUMP. *TR
MY 2010 PRIUS HAS SEEMED TO 'GO AIRBORNE" WHEN I HIT A CERTAIN SPOT ON A LOCAL FREEWAY EXIT RAMP. WHEN I APPLY MY BRAKES AT THE END OF THE RAMP, THE BRAKES SEEM TO MISS AS THERE IS A DEPRESSION IN THE PAVEMENT. IT HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE IN THAT SPOT. I KNOW IT IS THE CAR BECAUSE WHEN I DROVE MY SATURN OVER THAT SPOT IT NEVER HAPPENED IN THREE YEARS OF EXITING THERE. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP TWO WEEKS AGO AND THEY HAD NOT HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED AGAIN THIS WEEK AND THEY WERE VERY AWARE OF THIS. I DID TELL THEM THAT THIS WAS A POTENTIAL HAZARD AND HOPED THAT ALL PRIUS 2010 CARS WILL BE FIXED. TO BE FAIR, I DID NOT ASK FOR THEM TO REPAIR MY CAR SINCE I HAD FIGURED OUT HOW TO PREVENT THE SKIP (BRAKING EARLIER, SLOWING MORE). BUT I THINK THIS SHOULD BE PART OF A RECALL BECAUSE THIS DEFECT CAN HAPPEN QUITE OUT OF THE BLUE, WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT DEPENDING ON ROAD CONDITIONS. I EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR INCIDENT LAST MONTH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD (ICE) BUT DIDN'T MAKE THE CONNECTION. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS AND HAVE EXPERIENCED THE BRAKING PROBLEM. WHEN BRAKING WITH THE FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD WITH ACCELERATION. IT WILL STOP WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES HARDER. THIS IS HAPPENING ON DRY PAVEMENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 3 SEPERATE OCCASSIONS. *CN
THIS COMPLAINT IS REGARDING MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS WHICH I PURCHASED IN AUGUST OF 2009. BEFORE MY FIRST OIL CHANGE WAS DUE I HAD NOTICED THE VEHICLE'S TENDENCY TO NOT RESPOND INSTANTLY TO MY STEPPING ON THE BRAKE, AND THEN LURCH FORWARD WHEN THE BRAKES DID ENGAGE. MY BRAKES ALSO SQUEAL EVEN WHEN THE WEATHER IS DRY. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR TIRE ROTATION AND OIL CHANGE. OF COURSE THEY TOLD ME THE MOMENTARY PAUSE OF THE BRAKES "WAS NORMAL" AND THEY DID NOT HEAR THE BRAKES SQUEAL. WELL MY VEHICLE IS STILL DOING BOTH OF THESE THINGS AND IT SEEMS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH A CONCERN REGARDING THE BRAKES. PLEASE ADD MY VEHICLE TO THE LIST OF OWNERS WHO ARE WORRIED ABOUT THESE BRAKES. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 40 YEARS, EVERY MAKE AND MODEL, INCLUDING TRACTORS ON THE FARM AND I KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM NO MATTER WHAT THAT DEALERSHIP OR TOYOTA SAYS. *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS WHILE BRAKING, IF THE CAR DRIVE OVER A BUMP, THE CAR ACCELERATES. TO STOP THE CAR, THE BRAKES MUST BE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR BOARD TO STOP AND AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASED 8/2009. *TR
VEHICLE - TOYOTA 2010 PRIUS. THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM IS ONGOING YET INTERMITTENT. DESCRIPTION - THE BRAKES GRAB UNEXPECTEDLY. HAPPENS AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN, PARKED AND THEN RE-STARTED. WE NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. WE HAVE TO COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE (NOT TURNING IT OFF) AND BEGIN AGAIN. THEN THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO GO AWAY. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE BRAKES GRABBING IS AS FOLLOWS: WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED EVER SO SLIGHTLY, THEY GRAB AND THE CAR COMES TO A JERKY HALT. WE TRY IT AGAIN AND IT REPEATS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL VEHICLE BEHAVIOR. I CANNOT ANSWER INCIDENT DATE SINCE THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING AND INTERMITTENT. I WILL INSERT THE APPROXIMATE FIST INCIDENT. *TR
I OWN A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE BRAKING ON A SLICK OR ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD MY CAR WILL BRIEFLY SURGE AND THEN BRAKE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE THE CAR HAS LOW FRICTION TIRES FOR EFFICIENCY. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 5 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR IN AUGUST 2009. AFTER READING THE RECENT REPORTS IT SEEMS LIKE I AM HAVING A BRAKING PROBLEM, NOT A TIRE PROBLEM. *TR
MOMENTARY LACK OF BRAKES DURING UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE. SITUATION HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES. DURING BRAKING, EITHER UNEVEN SURFACE OR ON A DIRT ROAD, THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT LOSES ALL BRAKING FOR APPROXIMATELY 1-2 SECONDS. I FIRST THOUGH IT WAS THE ABS KICKING IN, BUT THERE IS NO PULSING JUST A LOSS OF BRAKING. DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. I NOTICED CONDITION WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK OF USE. DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS THE ABS AND NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT *TW
ON 8-21-09, I TOOK DELIVERY ON A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID. SINCE TAKING DELIVERY, I HAVE EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT ,MOMENTARY ,UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND INTERMITTENT,MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING. ON 1-10-10, I TOOK IT IN FOR THE 5000 MILE MAINTENANCE CHECK, BUT DID NOT TELL THE DEALER MY PROBLEMS ,BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS STILL IN A "BREAKING IN" PERIOD AND WOULD RESOLVE ITSELF. BUT WHEN I HEARD TODAY 2-4-10, THAT THE NHTSA WAS OPENING AN INVESTIGATION OF THE 2010 PRIUS, I DECIDED TO ADD MY COMPLAINT TO THE OTHERS. *TR UPDATED 03/04/10 *BF
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS STEERING WHEEL HAS A PLACE WHERE RINGS CAN SNAG CAUSING AN OVER OR UNDER TURN SITUATION. TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT REPLACING THE PART THAT CAUSES THIS LOCK UP WOULD NOT HELP THE PROBLEM. ONE TIME OCCURRENCE FOR ME BUT WAS VERY SCARY AT THE TIME. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS ON 8/26/09. THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO PLAZA TOYOTA ON 12/23/09 AFTER THIS OCCURRED MORE THAN 50 TIMES. TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND I'M THE 1ST ONE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. ON THE RECEIPT (R/O # 6311675/1) FROM THIS VISIT, TOYOTA STATED," TOM THE TOYOTA FIELD TECH DETERMINED THAT THE FEELING THAT THE CUSTOMER IS EXPERIENCING IS NORMAL AND THAT THE REGENETIVE BRAKING SYSTEM AND HYDRAULIC SYSTEM IS TRANSFERRING AND THAT'S NORMAL." SINCE THAT VISIT, THIS PROBLEM HAS ONLY HAPPENED 4 TIMES. IN REGARDS TO BRAKING ON SLIPPERY ROADS, THE CAR HAS SLID 2 DIFFERENT TIMES BEFORE GRIPPING THE ROAD. ALSO, TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT THE PRIUS GETS 51 MPG, THIS CAR HAS ONLY BEEN AVERAGING 33 MPG IN CITY DRIVING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUR 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, WE HAVE NOTICED FREQUENT OCCURRENCES OF THE CAR LURCHING WHILE BRAKING. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS AS THE CAR HITS A POTHOLE OR BUMP IN THE ROAD WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE; THE CAR LURCHES WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO SOMETIMES PUSH OUR BODIES FORWARD, AGAINST THE SAFETY RESTRAINTS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, BUT WE WILL BE CALLING OUR DEALERSHIP TO DISCUSS SOLUTIONS. *TR
2010 PRIUS II WITH 2070 MILES. PURCHASED 8/2009. WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP WHILE STEPPING ON THE BRAKE THE CAR SEEMS TO ACT AS IF THERE IS NO BRAKE ON THE DOWNSIDE OF THE BUMP. IT FEELS LIKE A SLIGHT ACCELERATION THEN THE BRAKE ENGAGES.. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 4 TIMES, BUT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN EVERY INSTANT OF A SIMILAR SITUATION. *TR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES ON MY PRIUS 2010 WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT, IF I HIT A BUMP, THE BRAKES WILL BRIEFLY DISENGAGE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LAST SUMMER. *TR
MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS A PROBLEM WITH BRAKING SPECIFICALLY WHEN THE CAR MOVES ON A BUMPY OR SLIPPERY SURFACE, I CAN FEEL A PAUSE IN THE BRAKING AND IT FEELS AS THOUGH I GLIDE A FEW FEET FURTHER THAN I SHOULD WHEN I BRAKE THE PEDAL IS FULLY PRESSED DOWN. I OWN A 2010 PRIUS. THE DAY AFTER THE PURCHASE, THE BRAKES WOULD GRAB WHEN IN REVERSE AS BRAKES WERE APPLIED. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND WAS PERHARS DUE TO A LITTLE RUST ON THE ROTORS AND AND TO RETURN IN PROBLEM RECURRED. THE GRABBING AND JERKING CONTINUED WHILE BRAKING IN REVERSE AT LOW SPEED AND I AGAIN RETURNED TO DEALER. THIS TIME THEY SAID IT COULD BE DUE TO INTERACTION BETWEEN THE MECHANICAL BRAKE AND THE THE REGENERATIVE BRAKE BUT HAD NO IMPROVEMENTS TO OFFER. THE PROBLEM CONTINUS TO DATE. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN GOING FORWARD . HOWEVER, I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED AS IT MAY INDICATE A GENERAL SOFTWARE ERROR IFOR CONTROLLING THE INTERACTION BETWEEN BRAKING MODES. *CN

MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS EXPERIENCES ACCELERATION WHENEVER I GO OVER A POTHOLE AND ATTEMPT TO BRAKE THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2009. I AM REPORTING IT NOW BECAUSE I NOW KNOW THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT IS NOT A RESULT OF MY INABILITY TO GET USED TO DRIVING A HYBRID. THE HESITATION WE'VE EXPERIENCED USUALLY OCCURS WHEN DRIVING DOWN A STEEP HILL OR PASSING OVER A POTHOLE. *TR
CAR LOSES BRAKING DURING TIGHT CORNERING OR WHEN DRIVING OVER MINOR IMPERFECTIONS IN ROAD SURFACE. *TR
RE: 2010 PRIUS BRAKING ISSUES BEGINNING WITHIN THE FIRST 500 MILES OF OWNING VEHICLE. WHEN FIRST START UP VEHICLE BRAKES ARE OVERLY SENSITIVE, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP THE CAR SMOOTHLY. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS RANDOMLY AND HAS OCCURRED TWICE WITHIN THE LAST WEEK. I HAVE ALSO HAD TWO TIMES WHERE THE CAR HAS HAD AN INCREDIBLE SURGE FORWARD, SO STRONG THAT MY HEAD WAS THROWN BACK INTO THE HEAD REST. THE SURGE HAS BEEN MOMENTARY AND HAS THE FEELING LIKE GOING UP A STEEP INCLINE ON A ROLLER COASTER WHEN IT FIRST ACCELERATES. BECAUSE THESE EVENTS WERE SUCH A SURPRISE AND SO SHORT IN DURATION I CANNOT RECALL THE CONDITIONS (WHETHER I WAS BRAKING, COASTING, OR ON THE GAS PEDAL) BUT I DO KNOW I WAS GOING AT A SLOW SPEED. I HAVE HAD TWO OCCURRENCES OF THIS SURGE BOTH WITHIN WEEKS OF EACH OTHER IN THE FALL OF LAST YEAR. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALER REGARDING BOTH OF THE ABOVE ISSUES IN THE FALL OF LAST YEAR, BUT THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR CREATE EITHER OF THE ABOVE PROBLEMS. AT THAT TIME I ASKED IF THEY HAD ANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND THEY SAID THEY HAD HEARD OF NO OTHER SUCH COMPLAINTS. WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE SERVICE IN NOVEMBER MY HUSBAND AGAIN ASKED ABOUT THE OVERSENSITIVE BRAKING ISSUE AND AGAIN NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND OR SOLUTION PROVIDED. THE OVERSENSITIVE BRAKE AND THE SURGE CREATE PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY UNCOMFORTABLE CONDITIONS. NO DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED BECAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR WITH UNDER THESE CONDITIONS FIGURING UNTIL THERE ARE COMPLAINTS IT WOULD BE HARD TO RECREATE THESE PROBLEMS AT THE SHOP. WHEN I FIRST TOOK MY CAR IN TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES I TOLD THE DEALER IT FELT LIKE IT WAS A COMPUTER GLITCH OR ELECTRONIC PROBLEM RATHER THAN MECHANICAL. AND ASKED IT MIGHT SHOW UP ON THE CARS COMPUTER DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE ULTRA-SENSITIVE AND WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH IN REVERSE AND LIGHTLY DEPRESSED THE PEDAL THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AS IF SHE MADE AN ABRUPT STOP. OCCASIONALLY, SHE HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTREMELY HARD TO STOP THE VEHICLE. SHE HAS NOT SPOKEN TO THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,740. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500.

EVERY TIME WE DRIVE DOWN A HILL NEAR OUR HOUSE AND HIT A POTHOLE/CRACK IN THE ROAD, THE 2010 PRIUS SEEMS TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE POTHOLE EVEN THOUGH I AM BREAKING DOWN THE HILL. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE FIRST DAY WE DROVE THE CAR (IN AUGUST 2009). THERE HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES SINCE THIS ROAD IS NOT HEAVILY TRAVELED, BUT IT MAKES ME HESITANT TO DRIVE MY CAR IF I HAVE TO GO DOWN THAT HILL. *TR

THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6292.
WHEN BACKING UP, THE CAR WILL, ON OCCASION, AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATE EXCESSIVELY. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO NEED TO STEP AGGRESSIVELY ON THE BRAKE IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE CAR. THIS CYCLE OF "RACE AND BRAKE" CONTINUES UNTIL OUR NEED TO REVERSE IS COMPLETE. ONCE WE ARE IN DRIVE THERE IS NO FURTHER PROBLEM. THIS HAS OCCURRED ABOUT SIX TIMES SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN LATE JULY. IT HAS MOST OFTEN OCCURRED WHEN IT IS THE INITIAL DRIVE OF THE DAY, BUT THE MOST RECENT TIME THE CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN DRIVEN 100 MILES AND HAD BEEN IDLING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. WE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH WE BOUGHT THE CAR. THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THE ISSUE. WE ALSO TOOK IT INTO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE, OF COURSE, NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HE EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE AT LEAST 12 DIFFERENT TIMES. HE HAD NEITHER TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP NOR SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED TO-DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150.

THE DRIVER COULD HEAR THE ENGINE REV UP AND THERE WAS A SURGE OF POWER FROM THE ENGINE DESPITE HIS FOOT NOT BEING ON THE ACCELERATOR, BUT BEING ON THE BRAKE. IN EACH OF THE 6 INCIDENTS THE CONSUMER AND SECOND DRIVER WERE ABLE TO STOP SAFELY, BIT WERE PUT AT RISK OF AN ACCIDENT AND/OR INJURY DUE TO THE ERRONEOUS ACCELERATION. WHEN DRIVING MY NEW 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS III MODEL, I HAVE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING WHEN THE CAR HITS A BUMP WHILE BRAKING. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, I PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKES, AT WHICH POINT THE CAR BEGINS TO BRAKE, AND THEN THE CAR HITS A SMALL BUMP OR POTHOLE AND THE BRAKES LET UP SUDDENLY AND IT FEELS AS THOUGH I LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE STILL APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION. I HAVE TO PRESS DOWN AGAIN HARD ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP BEFORE GOING THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AFTER THE BRAKES FAILED ME. LUCKILY, EACH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP IN TIME, HOWEVER I HAVE TO BRAKE VERY HARD IN ORDER TO STOP AND IT IS NOT SMOOTH. 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS BRAKE FAILURE. EVERYTIME WHILE BRAKING IF THERE IS A BUMP OR ON EVEN A SLIGHT BIT OF ICE ON 1 WHEEL ONLY, THE BRAKES WILL RELEASE COMPLETELY AND GO BACK TO ACCELERATING RATHER THAN BRAKING. IT HAPPENS WHEN I EXIT THE HIGHWAY AND THERE IS A CHANGE IN SURFACES FROM TAR TO CONCRETE. IT HAPPENS VERY OFTEN AND CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME. THIS OCCURS AT ANY SPEED FROM 10MPH UP AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED IT FROM 10MPH AND AS HIGH AS 55MPH. THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED AROUND 500 MILES ON THE CAR AND I NOW HAVE OVER 8500 MILES. THIS STARTED IN AUGUST AROUND THE 15TH. I HAVE A 2007 HUMMER H3 AND I HAVE COMPARED THE BRAKING WITH THE SAME CONDITIONS AND SPEEDS AND THE PRIUS IS NOT RESPONDING CORRECTLY. THE HUMMER BRAKES EVEN WITH THE CHANGES. I HAVE ALSO COMPARED ON A 2006 VOLVO S60. THESE BRAKES ARE FAILING AND IT WILL EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A CRASH OR A PEDESTRIAN BEING STRUCK. THERE IS NO PULSING OF THE BREAKS THERE IS ONLY RELEASING FOR ICE OR FOR ANY SURFACE OTHER THAN PERFECT. THERE SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF REPAIR OR RECALL IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE NOTICED THIS BUT THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY ME UNTIL I SAW THE MSNBC ARTICLE. I WILL NOT LET MY WIFE DRIVE THIS CAR SINCE SHE IS PREGNANT. IT IS NOT SAFE. WHILE SITTING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT KEEPS TURNING ON AND BLINKING AND WILL LOCK THE BRAKES UNTIL THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED. 2010 PRIUS - CONFIRMING REPORTS ABOUT BRAKE FAILURE. AT THE COMPANY I WORK, THERE ARE RUMBLE STRIPS LEADING TO A GATE WHEN DEPARTING THE GROUNDS. I HAVE LEARNED TO SLOW WAY DOWN BEFORE HITTING THE RUMBLE STRIPS BECAUSE I ALMOST HIT THE BAR THAT RISES AT THE GATE THE FIRST FEW TIMES AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR LAST SUMMER (2009). I HAVE NEVER HAD THE ABS SYSTEM KICK IN--AT LEAST I HAVE NEVER FELT THE CHARACTERISTIC "SHUDDER" OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. SO FAR, NOT EVEN A CLOSE CALL, BUT IT IS VERY DISCONCERTING.
