LAST NIGHT WHILE ACCELERATING TO GET ON THE FREEWAY MY PRIUS SHUT DOWN AND ENTERED LIMP HOME MODE. THE 'CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM. STOP VEHICLE IN A SAFE PLACE' LIGHT CAME ON. EVENTUALLY THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN ON AT ALL. I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE ONE BIT. I'M A FEMALE, ALONE AT NIGHT, IN A BAD PART OF TOWN, IT WAS 25 OUTSIDE, ON THE SIDE OF A FREEWAY! I DON'T BELIEVE THE RECALL FIXED THE PROBLEM.
PLEASE REFERENCE THE LOS ANGELES TIMES ARTICLE OF APRIL 14, 2019: "AFTER SECOND RECALL, TOYOTA PRIUS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS STILL OVERHEATING". MY CAR HAS HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATES, BUT IS APPARENTLY STILL UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I AM TERRIFIED THAT I COULD EXPERIENCE A "LIMP-HOME" SITUATION WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED ON THE LOCAL FREEWAYS. I AM REQUESTING THAT THE NHTSA AGGRESSIVELY PURSUE TOYOTA TO RECALL THE AFFECTED CARS AND COMPLETELY FIX THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE INVERTERS.
I PUT THIS CAR INTO SERVICE JANUARY 1, 2014. I DROVE 150,000 MILES CHANGING MY OIL RELIGIOUSLY AS RECOMMENDED. I HAD NEVER BURNED A DROP OF OIL PRIOR TO THIS. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I STARTED BURNING A QUART EVERY 2000 MILES. AFTER LOOKING AT TOYOTA FORUMS THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM.
