WHEN TURNING OR ACCELERATING, THERE ARE VIBRATIONS. TOYOTA DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT SHOUD BE REPLACED AND THE INTERMEDIATE LINKAGE RACK LEAKS. THE SOUND SYSTEM MAKES NOISE WHEN STOP OR DRIVING DOWNHILL OR UPHILL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHEN THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED, THE MECHANIC NOTICED SEVERE RUST ON THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT OF AN UNKNOWN RECALL REGARDING THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
ONGOING AND VERY LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED AT LOW SPEEDS, AT TIMES THE NOISE CAN ALSO BE HEARD WHEN GOING STRAIGHT. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS RAV4 MODEL AND IT SEEMS TOYOTA HAS NOT TAKEN ANY STEPS TO REMEDY THIS. IT IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, THE PROPER FUNCTION OF THE STEERING MECHANISM IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS AT ALL TIMES.
MY CAR HAS FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE OF LEAKS IN THE MUFFLERS. LIVING IN A COLD WEATHER CLIMATE, THE ROADS ARE SALTED CONSTANTLY AND MY MUFFLER SHOULD NOT HAVE RUSTED AND HAVE HOLES IN. THE MATERIAL IS NOT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH FOR HEAVY SALTING. I BELIEVE THE V6 ENGINES HAVE THIS RECALL BUT NOT 4 CYLINDER.
TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE AT 115,000 MILES DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. BURNED THROUGH 4 QUARTS OF OIL IN LESS THAN 3 WEEKS TIME. NEED A NEW ENGINE OR ENGINE REBUILD. WILL BE $4,000 TO FIX. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAD ISSUED ENHANCED WARRANTIES FOR VEHICLE N THE PAST. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2015 AFTER NOTIFICATIONS HAD BEEN SENT. ISSUE OFTEN BECOMES APPARENT AROUND 100,000 MILES ACCORDING TO RESEARCH. CALLS WITH TOYOTA HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL AT ANY SORT OF RECOURSE FOR THIS. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE REP CLAIMS TO RECEIVE MULTIPLE CALLS PER WEEK ON THIS ISSUE. OUR ENGINE FAILED ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE. WHILE TRAVELING 60 MILES PER HOUR.
2007 TOYOTA RAV4, ON SAT AUGUST 26TH WE WERE DRIVING FROM MADISON WI TO MILWAUKEE WI ON I94. JUST SHORTLY BEFORE WE REACHED JOHNSON CREEK THE CAR MADE A STRANGE NOISE AND THEN THE NOISE WENT AWAY. AS WE WERE DRIVING PAST JOHNSON CREEK THE ENGINE MADE A POP SOUND AND I LOST POWER AND I COASTED TO A STOP ALONG THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. I NOTICED SMOKE OR STEAM COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I REMOVED SOME ITEMS IN THE CAR AND MY WIFE CALLED 911. BY THE TIME THE JOHNSON CREEK FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED THE RAV 4 WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FIRE. THE CAR WAS A COMPLETE LOSS
THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE REAR CONTROL ARM RECALL THAT SEALS THE PART IN EPOXY, MAKING REAR TOE ADJUSTMENT IMPOSSIBLE. THIS VEHICLE IS OUT OF TOLERANCE ON REAR TOE AND WILL COST $685 TO REPAIR. TOYOTA SHOULD BE PAYING FOR THIS SINCE THEY RENDERED THE SUSPENSION PART NON ADJUSTABLE.

IN LATE SUMMER/EARLY FALL 2016 MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 BEGAN EXPERIENCING REAR SUSPENSION, ALIGNMENT, AND TIRE WEAR PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TOYOTA RECALL AT THE TIME, ALTHOUGH MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WHEN MY MECHANIC EXAMINED THE CAR, HE SAID IT MADE NO SENSE THAT TOYOTA'S SOLUTION IN THEIR SECOND SUSPENSION RECALL WAS TO EPOXY PIECES IN PLACE AND NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE'S SUSPENSION TO ADJUST TO MOVEMENT ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING. I HAD TO ARGUE WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHO SOLD THE CAR TO GET THEM TO MAKE THE PROPER REPAIRS (PERFORM THE RECALL WORK ON MY CAR) AT NO CHARGE TO ME. THE DAMAGED RUINED MY RELATIVELY NEW TIRES AND I HAD TO GET ANOTHER SET. RECENTLY DURING GENERAL SERVICING, MY MECHANIC DISCOVERED THE SAME TIRE WEAR PROBLEM AND THAT THE REAR TIRES ARE SEVERELY TILTING INWARD, AND THE MOST RECENT REPAIR BY THE DEALER WAS DONE USING A SOLID TIE BAR. IN MY MECHANIC'S PROFESSIONAL OPINION (HE'S BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR SEVERAL DECADES AND DOES CONTRACT WORK FOR A GOVERNMENT ENTITY), THAT KIND OF REPAIR SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DONE WITH THAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT BECAUSE IT WOULD LEAD TO THE FAILURE AND DAMAGE I'M EXPERIENCING AGAIN. IF THE SAME RECALL "FIX" THAT WAS PERFORMED ON MY CAR IS BEING PERFORMED ON ALL OTHERS THAT WERE PART OF THE 3RD RECALL AND BEYOND, OTHER VEHICLES MAY BE IN DANGER OF FAILED PARTS THAT COULD CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING, AS NOTED PER PREVIOUS RECALLS. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO THE DEALER, DISTRICT MANAGER, AND DANICA SORENSON AT TOYOTA WITHOUT SUCCESS. MY CLAIM IS BEING DENIED DESPITE THE EVIDENCE OF AN ONGOING SUSPENSION PROBLEM. WHEN YOU LOOK AT MY CAR, THE IMPROPER TILT OF THE TIRES AND IRREGULAR TREAD WEAR ARE VISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE. MY CAR WILL NO LONGER PASS INSPECTION DUE SOLELY TO THE TIRE DAMAGE.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION CAUSED ENGINE TO LEAK OIL
ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION ON THIS VEHICLE IS UNACCEPTED, TOYOTA KNEW THIS PROBLEMS AND SHOULD MAKE A RECALL YEARS AGO ABOUT THIS ISSUE
MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 WAS TAKEN TO NORTHERN LAKES AUTO IN HAYWARD WI FOR AN ALIGNMENT, AT WHICH WE WERE TOLD THAT THE REAR TOE WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND NEEDED TO BE LOOKED AT BY THE DEALER. THE RECALL WORK DONE IN 2014 AT A TOYOTA DEALER IN COLORADO SPRINGS CO INVOLVED APPLYING AN EPOXY THAT MADE THIS PART NO LONGER ADJUSTABLE. ON 7/28/17, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THE TOYOTA DEALER, WHICH FAILED AN ALIGNMENT CHECK AT THE REAR TOE. WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULD NO LONGER PERFORM A REAR ALIGNMENT DUE TO THIS RECALL "FIX" THAT PERMANENTLY SEALED IT INTO ONE PLACE. WE WERE TOLD THAT IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR BACK INTO ALIGNMENT, WE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE REAR TOE BAR FOR A COST OF 600 DOLLARS. WE CONTACTED THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND WERE OFFERED NOTHING TO FIX THIS ISSUE. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WITH AN ADJUSTABLE REAR TIE ROD, AND TOYOTA'S SOLUTION TO AN ENGINEERING FLAW IS TO MAKE THE REAR TIE ROD NO LONGER ADJUSTABLE, THUS COSTING THE CONSUMER HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX A SIMPLE ALIGNMENT ISSUE. IT IS NOT FEASIBLE OR FAIR TO EXPECT THE CONSUMER TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE, WHEN TOYOTA CREATED THE ISSUE WITH THEIR "FIX" INSTEAD OF CREATING A REPLACEMENT REAR TOE THAT IS ADJUSTABLE LIKE THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WITH WHEN I PURCHASED IT. THE CAR IS WEARING OUT THE TIRES IN THE REAR CUPPING BOTH OF THEM ON THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE, AND THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME AND MY WIFE AND MY 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I WAS FORCED TO PAY KARI TOYOTA $500 TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND APPLY THE EPOXY AGAIN TO PARTS THAT ARE TO BE ADJUSTABLE AND NOW ARE NOT....I WOULD LIKE TO BE REMBERSED FOR THIS A MOUNT ....WHY SHOULD THE I THE OWNER PAY FOR TOYOTAS BANDAID INCORRECT FIX?
TOYOTA REFUSED TO HAVE THE REAR TIRES OF MY CAR BE ALIGNED. SINCE I SUBMITTED THIS CAR FOR THAT REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM RECALL, I ALWAYS HAVE ISSUES WITH REAR TIRE MISALIGNMENT WHICH TOYOTA OFFERED NO REMEDY. I BELIEVE DRIVING A MISALIGNED WHEELS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION - USES 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,500 MILES OR LESS. WE HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CHECK THE OIL LEVEL AND MY WIFE IS NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FEARING THAT THE ENGINE WILL SEIZE UP IF WE HAVE FAILED TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL. NOTE: I'VE HAD TO "DUMMY" A DATE BECAUSE THIS IS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM AND NOT JUST ONE DATE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDOW COWL FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,663.

THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PARTS WOULD ARRIVE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 1704141065. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXCESSIVELY CONSUMING OIL AND THERE WAS A CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM TO ASSIST CUSTOMERS BUT I WAS FAILED TO BE PROPERLY NOTIFIED. I RECEIVE RECALL NOTIFICATIONS BUT NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROGRAM AND I'M WONDERING IF OTHERS HAVE ALSO COMPLAINED SINCE IT WAS HANDLED BY A THIRD PARTY.

RECEIVED NOTICE LAST FALL (AUG 2016) ABOUT AN "URGENT SAFETY RECALL" ON MY RAV4 - THE RECALL # IS 16V-596. TOYOTA DEALERS STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED THE PARTS FOR THIS RECALL! THE RECALL NOTICE STATES THAT THE SUSPENSION ARMS COULD SEPARATE RESULTING IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH! WHY DO THEY ISSUE A RECALL IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX IT 9 MONTHS LATER??
I WAS TURNING MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 SOUTH ONTO INTERSTATE 182 TO HEAD EAST, THE CAR SUDDEN OUT OF MY CONTROL AND WENT OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A CONCRETE BARRIER AT 5:49 PM AT 5/8/17. TWO PASSENGERS WERE HURT.

NHTSA #16V-596: RECEIVED NOTIFICATION SEPT. OR OCT 2016 AND HAVE BEEN CHECKING W/ DEALER SINCE. STILL WAITING FOR PARTS. 4/18/17 CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD JUNE 3017. NOT HOLDING MY BREATH. MEANTIME REAR ALIGNMENT IS INCORRECT FOLLOWING PREVIOUS LOWER CONTROL ARM ENCASEMENT IN EPOXY AND CAN'T BE CORRECTED. TIRES WEARING IMPROPERLY WHILE WAITING FOR TOYOTA.

SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN SEPT.2006 I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 6 IGNITION COILS. #4 HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AS OF YESTERDAY MARCH 28,2017. THE PROBLEM FIRST BEGAN IN 2010. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO THE FACT THAT WHEN THIS ISSUE ARISES MY CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES AND ANY VEHICLE FOLLOWING BEHIND WILL SEE NO BRAKE LIGHTS AND MAY REAR END THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ALSO BECOMES SLUGGISH AND WILL NOT RESPOND LIKE IT SHOULD.
OIL CONSUMPTION OF MORE THAN 2 QUARTS IN A WEEK. PURCHASED VEHICLE USED FROM TOYOTA DEALERSHIP OCTOBER 2016. THIS VEHICLE IS USED FOR SCHOOL AND GOING TO ATLANTA FOR APPOINTMENTS OVER 50 MILES FROM MY HOME.FILED A CLAIM WITH TOYOTA BUT WAS TOLD THAT I WAS OVER THE 10 YEAR MARK BY 2 MONTHS HAVENT REACHED THE 150,000 MARK YET JUST AT 135,000 MILES.
ONGOING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. USING APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART FOR EVERY 1200 MILES
TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE REAR SUSPENSION AND SUBSEQUENTLY REPAIRED MY VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FIX IS INADEQUATE. AFTER THE REAR SUSPENSION ARM (TIE ROD) IS EPOXIED INTO A FIXED POSITION, THE REAR TIRES CAN NO LONGER BE REALIGNED WITHOUT REPLACING THE ENTIRE SUSPENSION ARM. THIS FIX IS INADEQUATE AND PLACES UNDUE FINANCIAL BURDENS ON THE RAV4 OWNERS.
CAR HAD BEEN USING EXCESSIVE OIL.WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, CRUISE CONTROL FAILED ,WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON , STARTED FLASHING AND THEN CAR QUICKLY LOST ALL POWER. BARELY GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF INTERSTATE. VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION EXISTS WITH THESE VEHICLES. I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY.
DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. IT ALSO WILL NOT STAY IN PLACE WHEN PUSHED FORWARD TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD. THE VISOR HAD BEEN SLOWLY DROPPING WITHIN 5 MONTHS. IT IS NOW AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE FROM THE HEADLINER AND IT IS IN MY DIRECT LINE OF SIGHT WHILE DRIVING. IT IS DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING AND OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD. WHY HAS THIS ISSUE NOT BEEN ADDRESSED? FROM THE TOYOTA OWNER'S FORUMS THAT I HAVE BEEN READING, THIS IS ALSO BEEN A PROBLEM WITH OTHER YEARS AND MODELS DUE TO THE RIDICULOUSLY HEAVY VISORS.
CONSTANT CLUNKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL
TAKATA RECALL THE ENGINE CONSUMES LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL IN SHORT AMOUNTS OF TIME . MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
THERE HAVE BEEN TWO SAFETY RECALLS ON THE REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS OF 2006 TO 2011 TOYOTA RAV 4S. I HAD BOTH RECALL REMEDY PROCEDURES PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. THE SECOND RECALL REMEDY INVOLVED SEALING THE ADJUSTABLE SUSPENSION ARMS WITH AN EPOXY WHICH MAKES THEM NON-ADJUSTABLE IN THE FUTURE. I HAD THIS PERFORMED 6/4/14. THIS REMEDY ALSO RENDERS THE REAR WHEELS UNABLE TO BE ALIGNED. THEREFORE, IF THE REAR WHEELS GO OUT OF ALIGNMENT, THE REAR SUSPENSION HAS TO BE REPLACED. SO INSTEAD OF A $60 ALIGNMENT CHARGE, THE CUSTOMER IS NOW SUBJECT TO A $480 REPLACEMENT CHARGE EVERY TIME THEIR CAR NEEDS REALIGNMENT. I PUT NEW TIRES ON MY CAR ON 12/19/2014. ON 1/1/17, MY MECHANIC NOTICED OUTER EDGE TIRE WEAR ON BOTH REAR TIRES SUGGESTING AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE. ON 1/18/17, SEARS CONFIRMED ONLY REAR WHEELS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. ON 1/27/17, LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER CONFIRMED REAR WHEELS OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND SAID $480 REPLACEMENT OF REAR SUSPENSION ARMS WAS ONLY SOLUTION. THE LOCAL SERVICE MANAGER SAID THEY NEW THERE WOULD BE PROBLEMS WHEN THIS RECALL REMEDY WAS PUT INTO PLACE BY TOYOTA. MY REAR TIRES WERE RUINED AT 24,000 MILES. I ASKED TOYOTA TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT (CASE NO. 1701201908). THEY REFUSED AND SAID IT WAS A DECISION MADE AT THE US REGIONAL MANAGER LEVEL THAT WAS ACCEPTED BY TOYOTA NATIONAL. I REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES AND THE REAR SUSPENSION ARMS. I OPTED FOR AFTER MARKET ADJUSTABLE REAR ARMS AT A COST OF $222 PLUS ALIGNMENT. I ASSUME I AM NOW AT MORE RISK ON THE HIGHWAY. TOYOTA FORCED THIS DECISION BY PROVIDING A NON-ADJUSTABLE SOLUTION FOR A FAULTY ADJUSTABLE PART. THEIR DECISION NOW COSTS CUSTOMERS $480 EVERY TIME THEY NEED A $60 ALIGNMENT. MY CAR WAS DRIVEN ONLY ON NORMAL PAVED ROADS AND HIGHWAYS. THIS IS UNFAIR TO CUSTOMERS AND PLACES CUSTOMERS LIKE ME A HIGHER RISK IF THEY ARE UNWILLING TO PAY THE REPLACEMENT COST. I ALSO CALLED NHTSA AND STARTED COMPLAINT (REF. 1063186, BEAU).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V596000 (SUSPENSION) AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A TIME FRAME OF WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT BUT WHEN I WANTED TO OPEN THE DOOR, THE FOB WOULDN'T WORK. THE BATTERY HAD BEEN DEPLETED AND WHEN I REPLACED THE BATTERY, BY AAA, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS STAYED ON EVEN AFTER I TOOK OUT THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION. THIS CAN CAUSE THE BATTERY TO DIE AGAIN. I HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY SO THAT THE LIGHT THAT STAYS ON WILL NOT DEPLETE THE BATTERY. THE CAR SHAKES BECAUSE THE POWER ISN'T GETTING TO THE RECEIVER VERY WELL. THIS IS A PROBLEM INSIDE THE ELECTRIC HUB. AT ANY MOMENT MY CAR CAN SHUT OFF BECAUSE THE ELECTRIC CURRENT ISN'T STABLE WHEN THE CAR IS ON. ONE OF THE FUSES OR SOMETHING ISN'T DISCONNECTING PROPERLY, CAUSING THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TO STAY ON.
THE REAR SUSPENSION SOUNDS LOOSE. TWO MONTHS AGO DESERT TOYOTA, IN TUCSON, SUPPOSEDLY ORDERED THE RECALLED REAR LOWER SUSPENSION ARMS. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THEIR PARTS. TODAY THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE ANOTHER TWO MONTHS. I THINK THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. WHATEVER YOU CAN DO TO EXPEDITE THE SOLUTION WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I GOT A RECALL NOTICE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA EVERY MONTH TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL SERVICE, BUT THEY ALWAYS SAY THAT THEY ARE WAITING FOR PARTS (LOWER EXTENSION ARM). THIS IS AN EMERGENCY SAFETY RECALL, YET THE SERVICE CAN'T BE DONE FOR AT LEAST 4 MONTHS. A LOT OF THINGS COULD HAPPEN IN THIS PERIOD OF TIME. I HAVE TO DRIVE IT AND I AM VERY MUCH CONCERNED. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. PLEASE HELP ME TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. MANY THANKS.
OIL CONSUMPTION, USES A LOT OF OIL AND HAVE KEEP CHECKING AND ADDING FREQENTLY
WHILE DRIVING ON AN EXPRESSWAY I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW MY VEHICLE. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO ENGAGE BUT THEN I FELT THE CAR ACCELERATE AND THE CAR "STUTTERED". IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE BRAKE ASSIST KICKING IN. IT ACCELERATED. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE BRAKES FINALLY ENGAGED. ABOUT 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, THE SAME THING HAPPENED EXCEPT THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE UNTIL A FEW SECONDS LATER AND I REAR-ENDED SOMEONE. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO INJURIES.
STARTING IN 2014, I HAD TO REFILL 1 QT OF OIL EVERY ~1200-1500 MILES DESPITE METICULOUS MAINTENANCE. AFTER RECEIVING A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION" LETTER FROM TOYOTA MOTOR SALES U.S.A., INC. ADDRESSING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, A FIRST OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS INITIATED AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN OCTOBER 2015 AND EVALUATED IN DECEMBER 2015. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR PASSED THIS TEST; OIL CONSUMPTION WOULD STILL BE WITHIN ENGINE SPECIFICATION. THIS WAS A SURPRISE, GIVEN THAT THE OFFICIAL MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE REQUIRES AN OIL CHANGE EVERY 5000 MILES, AND THAT THE PERMITTED OIL CONSUMPTION IN SUCH AN INTERVAL ACCORDING TO ENGINE SPEC. COULD LEAD TO SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE, OR FAILURE. A SECOND OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS INITIATED IN SEPTEMBER 2016, AND EVALUATED EARLY DECEMBER 2016 BY THE SAME TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THIS SECOND TEST CONFIRMED AN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, I.E. THE TEST HAD FAILED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE WOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FREE OF CHARGE. SOON AFTER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENHANCED WARRANTY PERIOD OF MY VEHICLE HAD EXPIRED 10/31/2016; THEREFORE, ANY COST FOR THE ENGINE REPAIR WOULD NO LONGER BE COVERED. CONSEQUENTLY, THE ENGINE REPAIR WAS CANCELLED. THE DEALERSHIP ARGUED THAT ALTHOUGH THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS INITIATED DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD, THE CONFIRMATION OF THE CONDITION TOOK PLACE AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRATION. THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST REQUIRES ME TO DRIVE 1100-1300 MILES BEFORE I CAN BRING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EVALUATION. THE DEALERSHIP RESPONDED THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MY DUTY TO DRIVE THE REQUIRED MILEAGE BEFORE THE END OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE. I CHECKED THE DETAILED CONDITIONS OF THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT AND FOUND NO WRITTEN STATEMENT MENTIONING THAT THE TEST HAS TO BE EVALUATED BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRES; IT IS ONLY STATED THE TEST HAS TO BE INITIATED DURING WARRANTY. *TR

DEALER INDICATED I MAY HAVE TO DO $170-$1200 IN GASKET REPLACEMENT TO QUALIFY FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS. FIRST I COULD NOT SEE WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT, I.E. NOT LEAKS VISIBLE/APPARENT TO ME. ALSO THIS DID NOT MAKE SENSE ESPECIALLY SINCE THE REPAIRS THEY INDICATED I MAY NEED TO DO, WILL HAVE TO BE REDONE DURING THE WARRANTY REPAIRS. WHEN ASKED WHY, THEY SAID THEY HAD TO REQUIRE THEM TO BE DONE BECAUSE TOYOTA HQ WOULD STICK THEM WITH THE WARRANTY REPAIR BILL IF THEY DISAGREED WITH THEM AS TO WHETHER TO AUTHORIZE THE WARRANTY REPAIRS. TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED THEY HAVE A DESIGN FLAW IN THIS ENGINE IN THIS VEHICLE. WHY WON'T THEY FIX IT WITHOUT SUCH A HASSLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE MADE A FORMAL RECALL SO THEY ARE FORCED TO STOP TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS.
DROVE FOR OVER AN HOUR IN DRY, STABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS. UPON SLOWING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO A PARKING GARAGE ON SURFACE STREETS THE STEERING COMPLETELY STALLED WITH MULTIPLE ALARM LIGHTS FLASHING, INCLUDING BATTERY. VEHICLE WAS STILL ON AND ABLE TO DRIVE BUT WITH VERY POOR ACCELERATION. THIS CAUSED ME TO BLOCK TRAFFIC ONCOMING TRAFFIC FOR OVER 10 MINUTES AS I LABORED (WITH A LOT OF STRENGTH) WITH THE STALLED POWER STEERING BACK AND FORTH UNTIL INLINE WITH THE GARAGE. CALLED TRIPLE A IMMEDIATELY AND HAD BATTERY CHANGED. DESPITE THE CAR WORKING AGAIN WITH STABLE STEERING, STILL CONCERNED ABOUT STALLING AGAIN, PARTICULARLY IN CITY STREETS (INCLUDING THE SF HILLS) AND FREEWAYS. THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME FIX FOR POWER-STEERING BEING THE FIRST THING TO FAIL WITH THE BATTERY/ALTERNATORS.
