THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN FLASHING INTERMITTENTLY FOR FOUR MONTHS. I HAVE TAKEN TO TOYOTA FOR REPAIR THREE TIMES AND STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A TOYOTA SERVICE TECH THAT WHEN THE LIGHT IS FLASHING IT SHUTS THE AIRBAG SYSTEM DOWN. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE RECALL REPAIR WORK PERFORMED. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP IT STARTED MAKING NOISES. AS THE VEHICLE INCREASED IN SPEED THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP , WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WE PRUCHASED THIS 2002 TOYOTA SEQUIOA IN 8/2001 WE HAD THE TRUCK FOR ABOUT 6 MTHS AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT THE DEALER REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. IN 4/05 THE RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL WAS LEAKING CAUSE US TO REPLACE THE SEAL. NOW 12/05 THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAS LOCKED UP AND THE TRUCK IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY CAUSING US TO PAY FOR REPAIR OUT OF POCKET. WE DEALER HAS REFUSED TO COVER THE COST FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. *NM
AUTOMOBILE STOPS OPERATING WITHOUT NOTICE OR WARNING. WILL NOT START AGAIN. *NM
WAS GETTING A FRONT END ALIGNMENT ON MY VEHICLE. COULD NOT BE COMPLETED. GARAGE REPORTED 2 TIRES WERE SEPARATING AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. PREVIOUSLY HAD A BLOW-OUT 2 MONTHS AGO ON THE SAME VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 30K MILES AND IS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. *NM
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED. I BOUGHT IT USED IN SEPT/2004. IN MAY/2005 AT 29,000 MI I REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS. IN AUG/2005 AT 32,000 I HAD THE ROTORS RESURFACED. IN OCT/2005 I HAD THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED. THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. BEFORE ALL THREE REPAIRS THE CAR VIBRATED DURING BRAKING ON HILLS. TOYOTA DEALER IS GIVING US THE SAME RUN AROUND THAT I KEEP READING IN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. WE'RE WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM A TOYOTA REP ABOUT WHY THEY DON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLE WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY DOCUMENTED CASES OF BRAKE PROBLEMS ON THIS TRUCK. *NM
DRIVING AT 70 MPH. ON THE EXPRESS WAY ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ASC AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STARTED TO FLICKER AND ANTI-LOCKING BRAKE ENGAGED BY ITSELF SEVERELY. BROUGHT THE CAR TO ABOUT 30 MPH. IN MATTER OF SECONDS. THE TRUCK STARTED TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT AND HAD TO CROSS 3 LANES TO THE SHOULDER. VERY FORTUNATE DID NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT WITH 4 PASSENGERS IN THE TRUCK. THE TOYOTA DEALER SHIP IDENTIFIED HE PROBLEM OF "YAW SENSOR" FAILURE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH POTENTIALLY AT LEAST SOME SEVER INJURIES.*JB
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH 82,000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT IN OCTOBER 2005. ON AUGUST 2005, THE CADALLIC CONVERTER WENT OUT ALSO. I FEEL THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND THE MANUFACTURING OF THE CAR IS EXTREMELY POOR. *NM
VSC TURNS ON AT LOW SPEED AND HIGH SPEED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. BRAKES ACTIVATE ON THEIR OWN, FRONT END SHAKES AND PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT. ALMOST CAUSED ME TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD. TOYOTA PERFORMED AN INSPECTION WHICH FOUND NOTHING. I NEED TO TAKE IT IN AGAIN BUT THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION AND ACTION NEEDS TO BE TAKEN. MANY OTHER SEEM TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *NM
I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THEN GOT OUT AND CLOSED THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS FULLY STOPPED WHEN I GOT OUT. IT THEN STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD, THE VEHICLE PICKED UP SPEED AND MOVED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 25 FEET. I OPENED THE DOOR AS IT WAS MOVING AND PUSHED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WITH MY HAND JUST AS IT CRASHED INTO THE STAIRCASE IN MY GARAGE. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE AFTER THE CRASH THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE. THUS THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED FROM PARK TO DRIVE. IT IS POSSIBLE IT SHIFTED FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE BUT I DON'T THINK SO. EITHER WAY THIS STILL POSES GREAT CONCERN. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2005. MY VEHICLE IS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. *JB
IN AUGUST, 2005 MY SEQUOIA BEGAN TO SHAKE AT THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK IT IN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE REAR ROTORS WOULD SOON NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN MAY, THE REAR ROTORS WERE AND ENTIRE BRAKES AND PADS WERE REPLACED AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE SEQUOIA STILL SHAKES BADLY. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE FIRST REPAIR CENTER, WHICH HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE FRONT ROTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE SHAKING IS SO BAD THAT IT IS HARD TO STEER. IT HAS CAUSED THE TIRES TO BECOME OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND I HAVE SINCE BOUGHT FOUR NEW TIRES. I NOTICED THAT LOTS OF TUNDRA OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I HAVE ENCOUNTERED TWO PEOPLE IN MY TOWN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR SEQUOIA. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKES, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD 45% BRAKE FUNCTIONALITY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,639 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA POWER ANTENNA PROBLEM. ANTENNA WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY EXTENDING UP AND DOWN, ALONG WITH A MIDDLE ROW SEAT BELT RETRACTION PROBLEM AND THE PLASTIC CAR HINGE PROTECTORS ALWAYS POPPING OFF WHEN ONE FOLDS UP THE RIGHT MIDDLE SEAT. I WENT TO ROSEVILLE TOYOTA TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD REPLACE THE ANTENNA FOR APPROX $200, BECAUSE THE GROOVES WERE WEARING OFF, AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO THE MANUFACTURER TO ADDRESS IT BECAUSE OF HAVING TO PAY $200. HAVING ONLY HAD THIS "FAMILY" CAR DRIVEN AROUND TOWN FOR 2 YEARS, I DIDN'T THINK A TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE THIS PROBLEM, THUS THAT'S WHY WE KEEP BUYING TOYOTA. THE MANAGER OFFERED TO FIX IT FOR $60. I RELUCTANTLY AGREED AND FELT THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO ACCOMODATE ME. THREE MONTHS LATER, IT'S NOT OPERATING PROPERLY AGAIN. WE BROUGHT IT TO ROSEVILLE TOYOTA AGAIN, ALONG WITH A MAJOR SCHEDULED $600 TUNE-UP, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS TIME, THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, COSTING $325! HOW CAN A POWER ANTENNA HAVE THIS MUCH PROBLEMS ON AN EXPENSIVE CAR LIKE THE SEQUOIA? WE BOUGHT IT AS A FAMILY CAR EXPECTING NOT TO KEEP SHELLING OUT MONEY FOR A 2 1/2-YEAR-OLD CAR. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP PAYING LITTLE FIXES LIKE THIS FOR A CAR WHICH WE THOUGHT WAS A QUALITY BUY. WE EXPECTED PAYING FOR THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, BUT ITS PRECISELY AVOIDING THIS "MISC FIXES" IS THE REASON WE BUY TOYOTA. NOW WE HAVE TO KEEP PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT REALLY KEEP BREAKING DOWN BECAUSE OF THE IMPLIED QUALITY. THE SIGN OF A GOOD QUALITY CAR IS THE AMOUNT OF LITTLE FIXES THAT NEED TO BE DONE WHICH SHOULD BE NIL. WE HAVE HAD OTHER MANUFACTURERS BEFORE AND KNOW THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT CAN ADD UP BECAUSE OF THESE "FIXES." I SINCERELY HOPE THAT TOYOTA CAN ADDRESS THIS TYPE OF COMPLAINT AND SHOW THAT THEY ARE A RESPONSIBLE COMPANY THAT ADDRESSES THEIR CONSUMER NEEDS. *NM *TR
"VSC TRAC" DASH LIGHT FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN STAYED LIT AT 45,000 MILES. PER TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL (VSC) COMPUTER AND STEERING ANGLE SENSOR FAILED. AS A RESULT OF VSC COMPUTER FAILURE, THE VEHICLE'S ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AND VEHICLE SKID CONTROL SYSTEM ARE DISABLED. *NM
REAR DOOR (HATCH) WILL NOT OPEN WHEN DOOR IS UNLOCKED. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH 3 OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO OWN THE SAME VEHICLE AND IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT. ALL OF THE INDIVIDUALS HAVE HAD TO HAVE THEIR LOCKING MECHANISMS REPLACED AT A COST OF $450+. BASED ON THE FACT THAT THE REAR HATCH DOOR LOCKS BREAK WITHOUT WARNING CAUSES A SAFETY CONCERN FOR THE VEHICLE PASSENGERS AND PETS.

REAR HATCH DOOR NOT STAYING UP WHEN DOOR IS RAISED. THEREFORE FALLING ON PERSONS HEAD
DT: ON DRY PAVEMENT THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT ON FRONT END AND NO AIR BAG DEPLOYED. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT THE TIME OF IMPACT, OWNER THOUGHT THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS GOING ABOUT 45. MPH VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS AND FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS. THE OCCUPANTS WERE WEARING SEAT BELTS. THERE WAS NO AIR BAG WARNING LIGHTS ON. THERE HAS NEVER BEFORE BEEN AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES, BROKEN AN ANKLE A TIBIA, LEFT WRIST, AND SUSTAINED MULTIPLE CONTUSIONS. DRIVER'S DAUGHTER HAS SUFFERED FROM LABOR CONTRACTIONS AFTER ACCIDENT. OCCUPANTS WERE TREATED IMMEDIATELY AFTER. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION BY INSURANCE COMPANY. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, FRAME WAS BENT. OWNER CALLED TOYOTA, AND THEY REFERRED HER TO NHTSA. *AK
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED. I'VE HAD TWO SETS OF BRAKE PADS AND REAR SHOES AND EVEN NEW ROTORS BUT I STILL HAVE A SHAKING PROBLEM. IT FIXES IT FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN IT'S RIGHT BACK TO SHAKING. MY BRAKING DISTANCE HAS INCREASED GREATLY
THE A/C IN THE CONSUMER'S 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA FAILED. *NM THE COMPRESSOR FAILED, THE FAILURE OF THIS PART SENT METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, WHICH REQUIRED THE WHOLE SYSTEM TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE COMPRESSOR WAS UNDER SIZED FOR THE VEHICLES FRONT AND BACK SYSTEMS AND THE BACK UNIT ROBBED THE COMPRESSOR OF IT LUBRICATION WHICH CAUSED IT TO SEIZE. *JB *NM
DT: NEEDS TO CHANGE THE TIRES ON HIS CAR AND CAN NOT GET THE WHEELS OFF. CALL TOYOTA THEY SAID THAT KEEP TRING AND GO TO DEALER WILL ADISE OR TAKE CARE OF PROBLEM. TOOK OFF LUGS AND SERCURTY LOCK OFF AND STILL CANT GET THE TIRE OFF. TRIED FRONT AND REAR TIERS. THIS IS A WHEEL PROBLEM ON MY TOYOTA 4 RUNNER SR5. *AK

THE CONTACT STATED WHEN ACCELERATING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 25-30 MPH ON WET PAVEMENT, AROUND CURVES OR WHEN PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO INCREASE SPEED. THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIVE AS NORMAL WHEN THE CONTACT REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) AND VSC TRACTION WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER RESET THE WARNING LIGHTS BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE DEALER ADVISED ANY FURTHER REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000
I BOUGHT A "TOYOTA CERTIFIED" 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IN LATE '04. ROUGHLY 6 MONTHS INTO OWNERSHIP - MY VSC (TRACTION CONTROL) SYSTEM BEGAN HAVING INTERMITTENT ISSUES - 2 FULL-DAY TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP MADE NO RESULTS - THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER 4-6 MONTHS LATER, THE VSC FAILED COMPLETELY, AND AFTER INVESTIGATION, I FIND THE ISSUE IS VERY COMMON AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. THE FAILURE LEAVES ME WITHOUT ABS AND WITHOUT VSC (TWO OF THE REASONS I BOUGHT THE CAR I DID) AND AT AN INCREASED RISK OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT, AS WITHOUT FUNCTIONAL ABS THE BRAKES LOCK QUITE EASILY. CALLS TO MY DEALERSHIP HAVE LEFT ME WITH THE IMPRESSION THE FIX WILL BE IN THE $2000 NEIGHBORHOOD, AND I HAVEN'T YET COME UP WITH THAT. THE INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE TO THE START OF THE ISSUES. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER GAVE THE VEHICLE AN ALIGNMENT, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUED. THE CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
FIRST OCCURENCE OF LIFT GATE FAILURE WAS FEB 2005. LIFT GATE UNABLE TO BE OPENED, REAR WINDOW INOPERABLE, AND REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER WORKED ONLY SPORADICALLY. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THAT WATER HAD GONE DOWN WINDOW INTO LIFT GATE AND HAD RUSTED OUT LIFTGATE DOOR LOCK, HANDLE AND CABLING COMPONENTS AND WOULD COST APPROX. $500 TO FIX WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT SAME FAILURE WOULD NOT OCCUR IN THE FUTURE. WE HAD REPAIR DONE AND IT WORKED FINE UNTIL JULY 1, 2005 AND WE ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AND OF COURSE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THE DEALER SAYS IS NOT COVERED BY OUR WARRANTY.
RUST IN THE REAR FRAME AND TAILGATE AREA IS RENDERING MY VEHICLE UNUSABLE AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE TAILGATE DRAIN HOLES QUICKLY CLOGGED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL DEBRIS RESULTING IN EXCESS MOISTURE IN THE TAILGATE AND CAUSED ALL INTERNAL PARTS TO RUST TO THE POINT THAT THE TAILGATE LATCH CABLE/HANDLE HAS BROKEN TWICE AND THE REAR WINDOW IS NOT FUNCTIONAL. RECENTLY I REALIZED THAT UNDERNEATH THE ORIGINAL FRAME PAINT, MY FRAME HAS SEVERE RUST. ALSO VERY CONCERNING, I RECENTLY REALIZED THAT HOLES MANUFACTURED INTO THE REAR OF THE FRAME ARE ALLOWING SAND TO ACCUMULATE IN THE FRAME. THE SAND IS HOLDING MOISTURE AND I HAVE NOT FOUND A WAY TO GET IT OUT OF THE FRAME. MY REAR CROSS MEMBER AND SPARE TIRE CARRIER ARE ALSO SERIOUSLY RUSTED. MOST CONCERNING IS THAT I PULL A LANDSCAPE TRAILER AND MY VEHICLE HAS SERIOUS RUST ON THE TRAILER HITCH AND THE FRAME AREA WHERE THE HITCH CONNECTS TO THE VEHICLE. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP YEARS AGO, THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS MY RUST ISSUES WERE A RESULT OF THE AREA IN WHICH I LIVE. I PAID NEARLY $40,000 FOR THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2002 AND HAVE CARED FOR IT VERY WELL. IT IS DEPLORABLE THAT THE POOR DESIGN OF THE FRAME AND TAILGATE WILL RENDER THIS VEHICLE TO THE SCRAP YARD WELL BEFORE ITS TIME...IF IT DOESN'T KILL SOMEONE FIRST. *TR

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STC LIGHT AND THE VSC TRACT SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY WHEN HE WAS DRIVING 70 MPH. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. WHEN HE TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON, THE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON ALTHOUGH IT NO LONGER SHOOK. WHEN HE GOT OUT AND CAME BACK A COUPLE HOURS LATER, THE LIGHTS HAD TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. RECENTLY, THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED MORE FREQUENTLY AND SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND OTHER TIMES, IT DID NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE DEALER STILL COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE YAW SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 142,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000. UPDATED 01/26/11*LJ UPDATED 04/13/11
1. INSIDE DOOR HANDLE SNAPS/BREAKS OFF AT 30,000 MILES. 3 SEPARATE HANDLES HAVE BROKEN. DRIVER SIDE HAS BROKEN TWICE. MULTIPLE TIMES INCLUDING 3 OF 4 HANDLES OVER A PERIOD OF A FEW YEARS. 2 WHEN HANDLE BREAKS OFF YOU CAN'T EXIT THE CAR. 3. PARTS PLUS LABOR $70.00 - I HAVE OLD PART. *JB
WHILE DRIVING, THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL CAME COMPLETELY OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF POLE STICKING OUT. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. TOYOTA TOLD THE CONSUMER THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
I LIVE 4 MILES FROM THE BEACH, AND RARELY NEED TO USE MY AIR CONDITIONER. IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS HOWEVER, I DID ATTEMPT TO USE IT, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT ALL THAT WAS BLOWING WAS HOT AIR - I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE AGENCY, THAT TOLD ME THE COMPRESSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR IS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT IT IS PAST THE WARRANTY PERIOD, SO THEY HAVE NO RECOURSE, AND THAT I SHOULD CALL TOYOTA DIRECTLY. TOYOTA REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALER - I DON'T EVER RECALL HAVING TO REPLACE AN AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR IN ANY CAR THAT I HAVE OWNED. I HAD TOLD FAMILY TOYOTA ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO THAT MY AIR CONDITIONING BUTTON WOULD BE FLASHING WHEN I WOULD ATTEMPT TO USE IT, BUT OF COURSE, WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE, IT WAS WORKING FINE, AND THEY LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS CRAZY. NOW, I HAVE NO AIR CONDITIONING AND I THINK THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED, ESPECIALLY SINCE TOYOTA SENT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN INFORMING DEALERS THAT SOME CARS DID, IN FACT, HAVE COMPRESSORS THAT HAD POOR DURABILITY. - THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $1100 TO REPLACE THIS PART, AND I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD BECAUSE THIS SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF DEALER RECALL. *AK
PROBLEM WITH 02 SEQUOIA WHERE BRAKES VIBRATE THE CAR, AND STOPPING ABILITY IS DIMINISHED. PROBLEM TO OCCURS WHEN BRAKES BECOME HEATED. (DRIVING DOWN A LONG HILL IN SECOND GEAR, USING THE BRAKES TO KEEP THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL WHEN I WOULD GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL, THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE AND THE BRAKES WOULD LOOSE SOME STOPPING ABILITY. I WOULD BE UNABLE TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP IN THIS CONDITION. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ON 9/22/04 WHO STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED & THE PADS BAD. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS VEHICLE IS FOR LONG TRIPS & VACATIONS. LITTLE USE OF BRAKES IN THESE DRIVING CONDITIONS. I EXPLAINED THAT I HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH OVER 236,000 MILES, AND THAT I KNOW HOW TO USE MY BRAKES. (95 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH ORIGINAL ROTORS) HE THEN STATED THAT THE SEQUOIA IS A MUCH HEAVIER VEHICLE AND TO COMPARE THEM ISN'T THE SAME, AND IT WILL TAKE MORE TO STOP THE SEQUOIA. I AGREED BUT STATED THAT THE SEQUOIA SHOULD HAVE A BRAKE CAPABLE OF STOPPING IT, ESPECIALLY SINCE I AM SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO TOW A LOAD OF UP TO 6000 LBS. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE. THE PERSON THERE STATED THERE WAS A TSB FOR THIS & THE TUNDRA CONCERNING THE BRAKES, AND THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED IT. I INFORMED HER THAT THE DEALER HAD WRITTEN NO TSBS ON THE WORKORDER HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW. SHE TOLD ME THE DEALER WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM. AFTER 3 DAYS I CONTACTED TOYOTA AGAIN, AND THEY PUT ME ON HOLD. THEY SAID THE SVC MANAGER HAD BEEN OUT & WOULD CALL LATER. LATER THE DEALER CALLED AND STATED THAT OUT OF GOOD WILL HE WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE FOLLOWING DAY I WENT IN TO HAVE IT FIXED. WENT FROM 4 BAD ROTORS & BRAKES, TO ONLY 2 ROTORS WERE BAD. THEY RESURFACED THE FRONT ROTORS. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE, I TOOK IT TO A HILL THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE DOWN IN 2ND GEAR, A FEW MILES LONG. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL, THE BRAKES START LOOSING THEIR STOPPING ABILITIES. THE VIBRATIONS WERE GONE, BUT THE HEATING & STOPPING PROBLEM REMAINS. *AK

REAR DOOR (HATCH) WILL NOT OPEN. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THREE OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AND THEY ARE OR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LOCKING MECHANISM SEEM TO RUST OUT AND THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE A SEAL COMPARTMENT, THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS ABOUT 500.00. THIS LOCK IS IN A PLACE WHERE YOU AS A OWNER HAS NO CONTROL OVER IT NOR IS THERE A WAY FOR YOU TO MAINTAIN IT OR DO PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE. ON IT. THIS PROBLEM JUST HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE FIRST TIME AND THEY FIX IT SO IT WOULD WORK AND IT DID FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS THEN IT FAIL AGAIN THIS WHEN THE DEALER INFORM ME OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR. IS ABOUT 500.00. THE NEXT TIME I WENT TO THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM I WAS CHARGE 59.00 JUST TO FIND OUT THE PROBLEM, WHEN THE DEALER INFORM ME OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR. ABOUT 500.00 YOU NEED THIS LOCK AND HATCH TO WORK BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE A FLAT TIRE THE ONLY WAY TO GET TO THE SPAR TIRE IS TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH AND CRANK THE SPARE TIRE DOWN. *NM
2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH SEVERE FRONT END VIBRATION ON BRAKING WHILE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 35000 MILES. DEALER FOUND ROTOR WARPING AND CHANGED DISC BRAKE PADS AND "TURNED"ROTOR. PROBLEM RECURRED IN VEHICLE NOW WITH 56000 MILES AND HAD TO REPLACE DISC PADS AGAIN AND TURNED ROTOR TO MINIMUM SAFETY STANDARD. FIRST OCCURRENCE AT 35000 MILES COVERED BY WARRANTY, THIS MOST RECENT EPISODE HAD TO PAY FOR. WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE IS A VERY HEAVY ONE AND NOT UNUSUAL TO REQUIRE FREQUENT BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT AND ROTOR REPLACEMENT. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE VIBRATION CAN COME ON UNEXPECTEDLY AND INITIALLY WAS VERY SEVERE DURING THE 35000 MILE DEALER SERVICE BUT NOTICED A VERY SLIGHT VIBRATION MOST RECENTLY AND THEREFORE BROUGHT INTO DEALERSHIP BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS OVERT. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS IS AN ENGINEERING FLAW IN WHICH BRAKE PADS/ROTOR MISMATCH CAUSES PREMATURE WEAR AND POTENTIAL SAFETY AND HANDLING PROBLEMS DURING SUDDEN BRAKING. HAVE CONTACTED MANUFACTURER WHO HAS FILED A COMPLAINT NUMBER BUT WAS TOLD TO NOT EXPECT ANY RESPONSE. *JB

SEE THAT THIS HAS NOT YET BEEN OFFICIALLY RECALLED, BUT CAN FIND ALL KINDS OF INFO AND COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB ABOUT THIS ISSUE. DASHBOARD LIT UP WITH ALL RELATIVE WARNING LIGHTS & VEHICLE HAS NO ABS NOR VSC FUNCTIONALITY. HOW COULD THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURES WELL DOCUMENTED, CHRONIC FAILURE NOT BE RECALLED? IT IS NOT EXCLUSIVE TO THE 2002 MODEL YEAR EITHER. THIS IS VERY INAPPROPRIATE. THE FIRST TIME CHAMPION TOYOTA SIMPLY SPRAYED A DISINFECTANT IN THE SYSTEM AND THIS HELPED FOR ABOUT TWO TO THREE MONTHS. THE NEXT TIME BEFORE I TOOK THE AUTO TO CHAMPION I MADE A CALL TO WHAT I REMEMBER AS THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURING SERVICE CENTER AND THE PERSON ON THE PHONE TOLD ME THAT THE DISINFECTANT SPRAY WOULD DO NOTHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE SERVICE CENTER MUST GO INTO THE AIR SIDE OF THE A/C SYSTEM AND MAKE SOME CHANGES AND CLEAN OUT THE SYSTEM FROM ALL THE MOLD. I THEN TOOK THE AUTO TO CHAMPION (CORPUS CHRISTI, TX) AND GAVE THEM THIS INFORMATION AND THE DEPARTMENT I SPOKE WITH. THEY, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, MADE THE CALL AND THEN ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS WAS LATE LAST SUMMER AND WE USED THE A/C SYSTEM VERY LITTLE. WE ARE CURRENTLY USING THE SYSTEM MUCH MORE AND THE MOLDY, MUSTY SMELL IS BACK AND IT IS NOW EVEN STRONGER.
