TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR A STATE INSPECTION, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL TWO YEARS PRIOR; HOWEVER, THE DEALER COATED THE FRAME WITH ANTI-CORROSIVE LUBRICANT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V312000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR MODULE RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER ONLY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED HER THE AIR BAG INFLATOR DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO THE LETTER THE CONSUMER RECEIVED, IT STATED THE AIR BAG INFLATOR WOULD BE REPLACED REGARDLESS OF THE INSPECTION RESULTS. *JB
VSC/ABS/BRAKE LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO PASS STATE SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO BRAKE LIGHT BEING ILLUMINATED. IN THIS VEHICLE HAVING THE VSC OPERATIONAL IS FAR MORE DANGEROUS. PLEASE ORDER TOYOTA TO PERFORM A RECALL AS THERE IS ABUNDANT EVIDENCE THAT THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL/ABS SYSTEM ON THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS.
NOW, BEFORE WE CHANGED THE AXLE A NEW ISSUE POPPED UP AS THE ABS MODULE CAUSED THE VSC SYSTEM TO ENGAGE AT LOW SPEED BELOW 10 MPH. AFTER 10 MPH THE SYSTEM WORKED FINE. DURING THAT ENGAGEMENT OF THE SYSTEM I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR INJURED VERY BADLY. SO, THE MECHANIC WENT BACK TO CHANGE OUT THE LEFT AXLE AND DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE SENSORS, WHICH THE LEFT FRONT WAS NOT READING AND THE RIGHT WAS INTERMITTENT. THAT WAS BAFFLING TO THE MECHANIC, SO WE TALKED AND CHANGED BOTH SENSORS AND THE LEFT AXLE. HE CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND THE VSC SYSTEM STILL ENGAGED AT THE LOW SPEED BELOW 10 MPH, MOST OF THE VIBRATION WAS GONE BUT SOME WAS STILL THERE AT 70 MPH, WHICH HE AGREED WITH ME THAT IT COULD BE POSSIBLY THE DRIVE SHAFT THAT TIES INTO THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM. SO HE DECIDES TO DO THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST IN THE 4X2 MODE AND 4X4 MODE ON ALL THE SENSORS ON EACH WHEEL. IN THE 4X4 MODE ALL THE SENSORS CHECKED AND READ FINE. THE 4X2 MODE CHECK OF THE SYSTEM REVEALED A PROBLEM WITH IN THE SYSTEM THAT TIED TO THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. SO, AS OF NOW HE HAS WORKED WITH ME TO REALLY UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE TYPE TO TRY TO GET TO THE ROOT CAUSE. HE HAS SINCE NOT CHARGED ME FOR THE SENSORS, UNTIL HE CAN GET THE ABS MODULE CHECKED OUT THROUGH A CERTIFIED REPAIR MANUFACTURER WHO WORKS ON THESE PARTS ON A REGULAR BASIS.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE LAST WEEK AND AFTER BEING ON THE ROAD FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE JERKS TO THE RIGHT, THE ANTI SKID LIGHT STARTS BEEPING, SOMETHING STARTS GRINDING UNDER THE HOOD, AND THEN IT ALL STOPS AND THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ALL COME ON. AFTER PULLING OVER AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND TURNING IT BACK ON, THE VSC LIGHTS WENT OFF, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. AFTER GETTING BACK ON THE ROAD, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. SINCE THEN, THE VEHICLE DOES THE SAME EXACT THING EVERY TIME I DRIVE FOR MORE THAN ABOUT 20 MINUTES. SOMETIMES THE TRANSITION IS SMOOTH AND SOMETIMES IT TAKES UP TO 20-25 SECONDS FOR THE NOISE UNDER THE HOOD TO GO AWAY.
I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL. IT IS TAKING WAY TO LONG TO GET PART IN. WE ARE INSTRUCTED NOT TO OPERATE VEHICLE WITH OCCUPANTS IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. IT HAS BEEN MONTHS SINCE I RECEIVED RECALL. WHEN CAN I EXPECT THE AIRBAG INFLATOR? IT IS VERY INCONVENIENT TO PERFORM MY DAILY ACTIVITIES.
THE FIRST TIME MY ABS/VCS TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON WAS AFTER I HAD TO BRAKE HARD ON A DOWNWARD HILL. I ACCELERATED TO CLIMB THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL AND IT WAS AFTER DOING THAT WHICH THE VCS TRAC AND TRAC OFF LIGHTS FIRST CAME ON AT AROUND 168,000 MILES. THERE WAS A FAST BEEPING SOUND LASTING FOR MAYBE 10 SEC THEN IT REGAINED POWER. NOW IT WILL DO IT WITHIN JUST A FEW MILES OF OUR HOME. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL MORE OCCASIONS SINCE THIS INITIAL INCIDENT WHERE THERE WAS A JERKING/PULLING OF THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. ALSO THE AIR CONDITIONING WOULD COME ON AND OFF LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO SURGE. ALSO IDLES VERY LOW, BELOW 500 RPM AND THEN FINALLY SHUTS OFF. THIS VEHICLE HAS BECOME VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT TO GET FIXED ON IT SINCE WE HAVE READ THAT OTHER OWNERS ARE BEING TOLD THAT ITS ANYTHING FROM A YAW SENSOR, STEERING ANGLE SENSOR, BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM, OR A SKID CONTROL COMPUTER ISSUE. ALL OF THESE ARE VERY PRICEY TO GET FIXED AND THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES THAT THEY WILL EVEN CORRECT THE PROBLEM. MOST HAVE HAD THE YAW SENSOR REPLACED AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. SOME OF THE MECHANICS WE HAVE TALKED TO SAID THAT THERE COULD BE BRAKE DUST OR MUD AND ROAD GRIME BUILD UP OVER THE SENSOR MAKING IT MALFUNCTION AND THAT IT SHOULD BE HOSED OFF AT AN UNDERBODY CARWASH. WE HAVEN'T TRIED THIS YET SINCE WE DIDN'T PUT MUCH FAITH IN IT UNTIL WE DISCOVERED HEARING AGAIN ON YOUTUBE. THE 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VCS RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED DOWN TO THE 2002 MODELS AS WELL. WE ALL ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THAT THEY DID.

I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY, WHILE COASTING VEHICLES ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL CAME ON SUDDENLY CAUSING ME TO VEER RIGHT, LUCKILY THERE WAS NOBODY NEXT TO ME. CONDITIONS DID NOT WARRANT THE ESC TO COME ON SINCE PAVEMENT WAS DRY AND I WAS COASTING. PLEASE ADDRESS TOYOTA ABOUT THIS ISSUE OR THERE WILL BE INJURIES OR DEATHS.
I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA WHICH TOLD ME I MUST HAVE THE AIRBAG INFLATOR MODULE REPLACED. CALLED THE GLENDORA, CA. TOYOTA DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. HE CALLED ME BACK TO SAY HE GOT THE PART IN. I TOOK THE CAR IN, LEFT THE CAR FOR 7 HOURS ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT MY CAR DIDN'T NEED THE MODULE. THE LETTER SAID THAT I MUST REPLACE THE MODULE AND RECOMMENDED THAT I DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH OCCUPANTS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL THE REMEDY IS PERFORMED. WHAT DO I DO? MY CAR IS NOT SAFE! PLEASE HELP ME.
IN APRIL, 2013 TOYOTA ANNOUNCED A SAFETY RECALL TO INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR. IT HAS BEEN 2 YEARS, TOYOTA HAS NOT AUTHORIZED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS TO PERFORM THIS DEFECT. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A DRY PAVED ROAD. THE VSC AND TRACTION WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AS THE VEHICLE PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES DIFFICULT TO STEER, THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER, AND THE BRAKES INADVERTENTLY ENGAGE, MAKING A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE, EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VSC TRACK WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STARTED GRINDING AND SHOOK WHEN BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES: GRINDING NOISE, CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT AND VSC AND TRAC LIGHTS COME ON INDICATING VSC AND TRAC ARE DISENGAGED. CAN DRIVE OK AFTER THIS OCCURS. HOWEVER, WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF AND STARTED AGAIN THE WARNING LIGHTS GO OUT AND IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT WHEN IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED IN 2010 FOR THE 2003 MODEL SEQUOIA WITH THIS SAME ISSUE, HOWEVER THIS RECALL FOR SOME REASON DID NOT COVER THE 2002 WHICH IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM! AFTER DRIVING 45 MILES THEN DRIVING IN A BUSY TOWN THEN BACK 45 MILES TO HOME TOWN I WAS GOING 55 MPH AND ALL THE SUDDEN I LOST POWER, A DINGING NOISE HAPPENED AND I LOST BREAKAGE, THE VCS OFF AND VCS TRACK LIGHT CAME ON, THE VEHICLE START DRIVING ROUGH. I THEN WENT HOME. THEN AFTER A FEW HOUR I HAD TO GO GET MY SON I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE LIGHTS WERE OFF, AFTER ONLY GOING 3 MILES AND WITH MY SON IN THE VEHICLE IT MADE THE DING NOISE LOST POWER LIGHTS VCS OFF VCS TRAK LIGHTS CAME BACK ON, VERY SCARY, HOPE THEY RECALL IT SOON, MY SEQUOIA WAS MADE AUGUST 2002. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME RUSTED OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN I DROVE OVER A SMALL POT HOLE AND I HEARD A LOUD LOOSE METAL NOISEAND NOW I BEEN HEARING IT SINCE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID, THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT COVER IS DAMAGED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR SAFETY INSPECTION AND WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A RUST HOLE IN THE FRAME. CALLED TOYOTA 800-331-4331 SPOKE TO [XXX] C AND WAS INFORMED THAT TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING TO HELP ME AT ALL. THE VSC RANDOMLY ACTIVATED TWICE WITHIN 10-15 MINUTES WHILE TRAVELING ON A DRY, CLEAN INTERSTATE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE CONSIDERABLY. THERE WERE NO EXTERNAL CIRCUMSTANCES THAT APPEARED TO CAUSE THIS INCIDENT. WEATHER CONDITIONS: CLEAR SKIES, SUNSHINE, 80 DEGREES, DRY, LEVEL ROADS. AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT, WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY DEALERSHIP. WE SINCE LEARNED THE 2003 SEQUOIA APPARENTLY HAD A RECALL REGARDING THIS SAME SITUATION. *TR

TOOK CAR INTO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN'T DO THE REPAIRS CAUSE OF LIABILITY SO I CALLED TOYOTA, AND THEY SAID I NEEDED TO SHIP THE CAR TO HONOLULU OR MAUI FOR REPAIRS. JUST TO SHIP MY CAR OFF THE ISLAND IS GOING TO COST ME ABOUT $500.00 ROUND TRIP. WHY CAN'T THEY SEND A TECHNICIAN TO THE ISLAND TO DO THE JOB!!!! IT'S THERE RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP MY CAR AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE. I ALSO TALKED TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT OWNS TOYOTA'S AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME TROUBLE! I HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2013. I AM STILL WAITING FOR A REMEDY . TOYOTA CLAIMS TO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THIS YET, BUT ADVISES THAT NO PASSENGER SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE! I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT FOR EXCESSIVE TIME TO FIX THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR

AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE PULSATED AND VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SAS SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. STALLS FOR A FEW SECONDS VSC LIGHT COMES ON AND ONCE SYSTEM GAINS CONTROL IT LETS ME ACTUALLY ACCELERATE AND PROCEED. DANGEROUS DUE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND THE HESITATION TIME OF NOT KNOWING HOW LONG UNTIL I REGAIN CONTROL. *JS
AFTER HEARING A CLUNKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING, I TOOK THE SEQUOIA TO THE TOYOTA REPAIR CENTER WHERE THEY INSPECTED IT AND TOLD ME THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME UNDERNEATH THE CAR WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND HAD ACTUALLY CRACKED IN HALF TOWARDS THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT TOYOTA HAD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SEVERAL MONTHS PRIOR, BUT WHICH HAD EXPIRED 1 MONTH BEFORE I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN. UPON CALLING TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ONLY ISSUED FOR SEQUOIA'S TO RECEIVE AN UNDER-COATING TO PREVENT FREEZE RUST DURING THE COLDER MONTHS AND THAT IF THEY NOTICED THE FRAME WAS ALREADY BROKEN DOWN, ONLY THEN WOULD THEY REPLACE IT. SINCE I HAD ALREADY GOTTEN AN UNDER-COATING DONE BY MY MECHANIC PRIOR TO TOYOTA SENDING US THE NOTICE, I DID NOT BRING OUR VEHICLE TO TOYOTA'S REPAIR CENTER. FOR THIS REASON, TOYOTA SAID THEY COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT OUR BROKEN FRAME SINCE WE NEVER CAME IN FOR OUR UNDER-COATING. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW MY SEQUOIA, AT ONLY 10 YEARS OLD, CAN HAVE SUCH EXTENSIVE DAMAGE IF IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PROPERLY CREATED AND INSTALLED IN THE FIRST PLACE. TO HAVE THE FRAME COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND ACTUALLY CRACK IN HALF, ALL WHILE MY WIFE WAS USING THE CAR TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL, PRACTICE, ETC., IS ESPECIALLY DISCONCERTING AFTER HEARING HOW DANGEROUS IT WAS TO BE DRIVING IT BY THE TOYOTA MECHANIC. AFTER PURCHASING MY 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH ONLY 64K MILES I HAVE SINCE LEARNED ABOUT A RUST ISSUE WITH THE FRAME. WITH ME NOT BEING THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND NOT HAVING MY NAME UPDATED IN TOYOTA'S SYSTEM SO I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE OR SERVICE CHAMPAGNE AS THEY CALL IT. I HAVE EMAILED TOYOTA CORP AND HAVE RECEIVED A CALL BACK AS WELL AS CALLING THEM DIRECT AT 1-800-331-4331. I AM BEING TOLD THAT DUE TO THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN ENDING JULY 2014 THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR ANY TESTING OR REPAIRS. THIS VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN NJ AND THEN WENT ON TO UTAH SO IT'S SEEN ITS SHARE OF SNOW AND SALT. THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF RUST ALL OVER THE FRAME AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT ITS SAFETY AND DRIVABILITY. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF THIS WAS DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE OWNER HOWEVER THIS IS AN ISSUE OF QUALITY FROM TOYOTA HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO CORRECT THE ISSUE ANYMORE. WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 35, MY TRUCK SUDDENLY PULLED TO THE RIGHT, STARTED TO SHAKE AND A BEEPING ALARM CAME ON, THE PICTURE OF THE VECHICLE SKIDDING ALSO LIT UP AND THE TRAC OFF AND VSC TRAC ALSO LIT UP AND STAYED ON. UPON PULLING OVER AND CUTTING THE TRUCK OFF AND RESTARTING THE VECHICLE, THE LIGHTS WHERE NO LONGER LIT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY HAVE PLACED A MACHINE ON IT TO SEE IF IT REGISTARS ANYTHING, AND NOTHING SHOWS UP. THIS REALLY SCARED ME AND DAUGHTERS TRACK TEAM MATES, BECAUSE WE WHERE NOT EXPECTING THIS. THIS IS THE ONLY VECHICLE I HAVE AT THIS TIME TO DRIVE, DO TO MY HUSBAND BEING DEPLOYED. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS POINTED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SHAFT THAT ATTACHED TO THE RACK AND PINION WAS LOOSE AND BECMAE DETACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
HORRIBLE SQUEALING NOISE AT START UP. ENGINE ALMOST HAS A BURST OF ROAR FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN DIES DOWN AND BELT QUIETS AFTER A FEW MINUTES. *JS
NO MATTER WHAT SPEED, THE VSC ALARM GOES OFF, THE CAR BRAKES VIOLENTLY AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT, AND MAKES A HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND. THEN THE VSC LIGHT STAYS ON UNTIL THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND RESET. UNDER WARRANTY, I WENT TO GILROYTOYOTA IN 2014 TO GET THIS FIXED. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE YAW RATE SENSOR, HOWEVER THAT ISN'T COVERED IN THE WARRANTY. IT WOULD COST AROUND $800-$1000 TO REPLACE. THEY DID REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY, AND THAT WORKED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS UNTIL THE VSC LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND THE CAR PULLED AND BRAKED AGAIN. VERY VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENS, AND THE ALARM GOES OFF AND THE CAR BRAKES AND PULLS, COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENT. MAKES A HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISE AS WELL THAT I CAN FEEL IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE CAR IS ALWAYS IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENS, ALWAYS ON ASPHALT, NOT ON DIRT OR IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL AND AROUND A CURVE AT ABOUT 25MPH, MY 2002 SEQUOIA BEGAN BEEPING, MAKING A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND THE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD LITTLE TO NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. PROBLEM LASTED A FEW SECONDS. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN A NEIGHBORHOOD WITH WIDE STREETS LESS THAN A MILE FROM MY HOME AND WAS ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY. CONSIDERING THAT I WAS ON A CURVE AND IT WAS RAINING, I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A ONE TIME ISSUE WITH TRACTION CONTROL. I DROVE THE TRUCK FOR A FEW DAYS WITH NO ISSUES. YESTERDAY, MY WIFE WAS ROUNDING A CURVE AT ABOUT 50MPH ON A HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON DRY PAVEMENT AND THE TRUCK DID THE SAME THING. SHE NARROWLY AVOIDED A COLLISION AND WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER. SINCE THEN, THE TRUCK WILL INTERMITTENTLY BEEP AND GRIND FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS BEFORE THE VSC OFF LIGHT COMES ON. AS LONG AS THE LIGHT IS ON, INDICATING THE VSC IS DISENGAGED, THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS. PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE WHEN ROUNDING A CURVE AND BRAKING, BUT THAT IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. IT HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, DURING BOTH BRAKING AND ACCELERATING, AND WHILE ON FLAT GROUND OR A HILL. THE PROBLEM ONLY LASTS A FEW SECONDS, BUT YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DURING THAT TIME. THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE, DECELERATE, BRAKE, OR PULL ON ITS OWN. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT LOSING CONTROL AND WRECKING, POTENTIALLY CAUSING INJURY TO MY WIFE AND KIDS OR ANOTHER DRIVER. UPON RESEARCHING, I FOUND RECALL NUMBER 10V176000, NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA09006. THIS RECALL WAS FOR 2003 SEQUOIAS WITH A VERY SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) SYSTEM. LAST MONTH, WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM SUMMER VACATION ON FLAT GROUND, AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VSC, TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON IN THE DASH. THERE WAS A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE FROM UNDER THE CAR AND BEEPING INSIDE THE CAR. THE CAR PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT AND DECELERATED ABRUPTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. THANK GOODNESS I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO THE TURN LANE AND LIMP INTO A GAS STATION. THIS OCCURRED THREE MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT 500 MILES UNTIL I GOT HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED THE YAW SENSOR. ONLY 3 DAYS AFTER THAT, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED TWO BRAKE SENSORS AND A MASTER CYLINDER. TODAY, FIVE DAYS AFTER THAT, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME, THANKFULLY AT ONLY 25 MPH WITH NO TRAFFIC. THIS IS A VERY SCARY, DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA SHOULD NOT BE IGNORING. THIS MORNING THE SLIP INDICATOR LIGHTS STAYED ON WITH THE GRINDING NOISE SEEMS LIKE A FEW SECONDS LONGER THAN YESTERDAY . I WAS ABOUT TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD WHEN THE OTHER TWO LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR DROVE NORMAL WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON . WHEN YOU TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE LIGHTS GO OFF. HOWEVER THE ERROR OCCURS ON A DAILY BASIS NOW . THE ROADS I TRAVEL ARE MAINLY HIGHWAY AND HAVE BEEN DRY . AT WHICH TIME THERE IS NO BRAKE CONTROL, STEERING CONTROL OR ACCELERATION CONTROL FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 SECONDS THAT HAS CAUSED A FEW NEAR MISS VEHICLE COLLISIONS WITH OTHER VEHICLES OR OFF THE ROAD TOWARDS AN EMBANKMENT. THE SEQUOIA WAS TAKEN TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THEY CAN ONLY CLEAR THE FAULT CODE IN THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER. SINCE THE FAULT CODE HAS BEEN CLEARED, 5 MORE EPISODES OF THE SAME IDENTICAL SENERIOS WITH BOTH WET AND DRY ROAD CONDITIONS BUT NOT STANDING WATER ON THE ROADWAY, AND ALSO A COUPLE OF TIMES DURING SPEEDS BETWEEN 60-70 MPH. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT ANOMALY, BUT HAPPENS 3-4 DAYS IN A ROW BETWEEN INSTANCES.
