TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A TURN, THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND LOST POWER. THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000.
EMISSIONS FAIL, PRE MATURE FAILURE OF CATALYTIC CONVERTERS (2) , PART NOT LASTING ,SUBJECT TO PREMATURE RUSTING , A PROBLEM FOR MOST OF TOYOTA CARS
MY TOYOTA SIENNA HAS 80,000 MILES AND HAS GEAR HUNTING, WHEN I GO ON A SPEED BUMP IT SURGES AND HESITATES, I DON'T FEEL SAFE AT ALL. I'VE PREVIOUSLY OWNED OTHER TOYOTA'S WITH PROBLEMS NOT LIKE THIS. PLEASE HELP. I LOVE TOYOTA, BUT I VALUE SAFETY.
THE GEAR SHIFTER IS FLOPPING BACK AND FORTH AND I'M AFRAID IT WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL AND CAUSE A HUGE ACCIDENT OR ROLL OUT OF PARK AND HURT SOMEONE.
VSC SYSTEM ACTIVATES THE ABS WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. USUALLY ON INTERSTATE ENTRANCE/EXIT RAMPS, THE VSC LIGHT COMES ON WITH LOUD BEEPING NOISE AND ACTIVATES THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE PULLS EITHER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT AND ACCELERATION IS AFFECTED. IT'S VERY SCARY! SPEED LIMIT ON RAMP IS 55MPH AND IT HAPPENS WHEN GOING 45-50MPH. IT'S ALSO HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. IT HAPPENS AT MULTIPLE LOCATIONS. I'VE HAD THE CAR CHECKED BY 3 DIFFERENT SHOPS AND NOBODY CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON. IT'S A WEEKLY OCCURRENCE.
THE SHIFT STICK WAS LOOSE AND WOULD MOVE IN ANY DIRECTION. IF THE CAR WAS DRIVING ON D AND SOMEONE WAS TO TAP THE STICK SHIFT SLIGHTLY UP OR DOWN, THE STICK WOULD MOVE EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND BRAKES WERE NOT PRESSED. ANY MAJOR BUMPS WOULD CAUSE THE SHIFT TO MOVE LOOSELY FROM ITS PROPER PLACE AS WELL.
BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT REAR DOORS WILL NOT OPEN USING THE MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY OR DISABLING THE MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY. THIS HAPPENS WHEN TRYING TO EXIT OR ENTER THE CAR. MY SON HAS TO CLIMB THROUGH THE FRONT SEAT. VERY INCONVENIENT.
1. SPARE TIRE FELL OUT FROM UNDER CAR WHILE DRIVING . 2. DASHBOARD CRACKED A WHITE POWDER IS NOW APPEARING . IF I TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP I KNOW THEY ARE GOING TO BLAME IT ON THE AGE OF CAR AND CHARGE ME BIG REPAIR BUCKS !
FROM DRIVING NORMAL SPEED, CAR CAP OUT AT 20 MPH AT HIGHWAY. ALMOST GOT INTO WRECK. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS IS HAPPENED. I TOOK IT TO AUTO ZONE . MANAGER CHECKED AND SAID IT HAPPENED TO HIS 2014 COROLLA, TOYOTA COVERED VARIABLE TRANSMISSION CELENOID UNDER RECALL. HE SAID TO CALL TOYOTA OR DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP IS SAYING, THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS KIND OF SAFETY ISSUE.
THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. WHEN OPEN AND CLOSING THE DOOR, THERE IS A VERY LOUD CLICKING. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A CRACK IN THE DOOR NEAR THE TOP HING THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE DOOR.
VSC KEEPS ENGAGING / WITH LIGHTS AND ALARMS, THE CAR LOOSES POWER AND PULLS TO RIGHT. THIS OCCURS UNNECESSARILY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS BELOW 20 MPH AND AT 65 MPH ON A FREEWAY STRAIGHT AWAY AND ON & OFF RAMPS OF THE FREEWAY. THIS IS HAPPENING WITH DRY / GOOD WEATHER OPERATION. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 1 WEEK AND HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN AT LEAST A DOZEN TIME.
PROBLEMS WITH HEAT ACTUATORS / BLEND DOOR RELAYS , ELECTRONICS ,FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ON LINE THIS ISSUSE ALSO EFFECTS OTHER TOYOTA MODELS , SAFETY HAZARD AS CANNOT GET HOT AIR TO DEFROST ALSO ,HEAT ONE SIDE COLD OTHER SIDE ,IT CHANGES SIDES , BUT HARD TO DEFORST ALSO . DOES WHAT IT FEELS LIKE
AIRBAG LIGHT FOR DRIVER SIDE BLINKS OFF AND ON DURING DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 35-45 MPH. THIS OCCURRED AT 209,560 +/- MILES. THIS IS OCCURING WITH OTHER ISSUES IN THE ELECTRICAL MODULES INCLUDING ABS CONTROL MALFUNCTION, POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE YAW/DECELERATION SENSOR AND IT LOSES COMMUNICATION WITH STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MODULE. THIS SEEMS TO NOT ONLY BE AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE BUT OTHERS AS WELL FROM READING MANY FORUMS ON TOYOTA SIENNA VANS INCLUDING ONES JUST A FEW YEARS OLD.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, VSC AND TRAC OFF. AS I WAS DRIVING AFTER JUST PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE FROM A DEALER AFTER ABOUT 60 MILES OR SO THESE LIGHTS ALL CAME ON THE SAME TIME. I WAS TOLD AFTER A SCANNER WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT IT IS DUE TO EITHER CATALYTIC CONVERTOR/O2 SENSOR MALFUNCTIONS.THIS IS AN IMPORTANT EXHAUST AND EMISSION COMPONENT DESIGNED TO BURN UP TOXIC EXHAUST FUMES THAT SETS OFF THESE LIGHTS. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH NOT ONLY THIS VEHICLE BUT OTHER TOYOTAS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. WE IN THE USA WOULD LIKE TO BREATH CLEAN AIR AND IT DOESN'T SEEM FEASIBLE TO HAVE TO CONTINUE TO "FIX" THESE SENSORS DESIGNED TO MAKE CONSUMERS SPEND LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY TO FIX THEIR VEHICLES.
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH HIGHWAY SPEED AND CURVING GENTLY TO THE RIGHT, THE VSC SYSTEM ON THIS MINIVAN EVIDENTLY PICKED UP A FALSE INDICATION OF A SLIP IN THE VEHICLE'S TRACTION. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO AUTOMATICALLY APPLY THE BRAKES ON THE LEFT SIDE, PULLING THE VAN'S DIRECTION FROM RIGHT TO LEFT, AND SLOW THE CAR QUICKLY FROM 55 TO 35 MPH, WITH VEHICLES BEHIND ME QUICKLY CLOSING IN ON THE REAR END. WITHIN SECONDS THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING CEASED AND I WAS ABLE TO REACCELERATE BACK TO NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING SPEED. THE ENGINE WAS NOT STALLED IN THE PROCESS.
I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT AND PUT THE VAN IN PARK (WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE). I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND IT CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD. I QUICKLY PUT MY FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE AND IT STOPPED MOVING. I THEN SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE AND THEN BACK TO PARK. I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE VAN CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD (EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN PARK). I PUT MY FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE TO STOP IT FROM MOVING. I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE VAN STILL ROLLED FORWARD. I QUICKLY PUT MY FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. WITH THE IGNITION OFF THE VAN STOPPED MOVING. I WAITED ABOUT 30 MIN. AND TRIED AGAIN, AT THAT TIME THE VAN WOULDN'T EVEN START (NO SOUND). I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO MY MECHANIC (IT WAS A SATURDAY). I AM WAITING FOR MY MECHANIC TO LOOK AT IT. I SEARCHED ON LINE BY VIN NUMBER AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY VAN FOR A GEAR SHIFT MALFUNCTION. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE FROM TOYOTA ABOUT THIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SLIDING DOORS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE BECAME INOPERABLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. *TT CONSUMER STATED CAR WAS BROUGHT TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID THERE ARE PARTS OF BOTH DOORS THAT SHOULD LAST A LIFETIME ARE STARTING TO WEAR AWAY AND IS CAUSING THE DOORS TO MALFUNCTION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ALONGSIDE THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AWAY FROM THE SCENE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 216,000.
SHIFT GEAR STUCK IN NEUTRAL MODE FOR TOYOTA SIENNA 2005. DRIVING SIENNA OUT OF MY GARAGE IN REVERSE, THEN STEPPED ON BRAKE--TO PROCEED TO MOVE GEAR TO DRIVE MODE. THEN VAN GOT STUCK IN NEUTRAL MODE. ATTEMPTED TO MOVE SHIFT LEVER ALL THE WAY BACK TO P TO GET OUT OF N MODE, AND NOTHING HAPPENED. LIGHT STAYS ON "N" POSITION. LOOKED AT VEHICLE MANUAL TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS IE. IF CAN'T SHIFT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LEVER... IGNITION KEY TO LOCK, PARK BRAKE ON. PUSH DOWN SHIFT LOCK OVERRIDE BUTTON. SHIFT OUT OF P POSITION ONLY WHILE USING A BUTTON. SHIFT TO "N" POSITION, START ENGINE WHILE KEEPING BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. WILL HAVE TO HAVE VAN TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALER. THIS HAPPENED AT HOME IN THE DRIVEWAY OUTSIDE OF THE GARAGE. I WAS REVERSING OUT OF THE GARAGE TO DRIVE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY TO ROAD.. I WILL NEED TO CONTACT TOYOTA FOR AN APPOINTMENT FIRST AND HIRE A TOW COMPANY TO DELIVER TO TOYOTA DEALER. ALSO, WHEN ENGINE IS TURNED ON AND STEPPING ON CAR BRAKE, SHIFT LEVER MOVES TO P, R, N ,D, AND LOWER GEARS BUT IS PERMANENTLY STUCK IN "N" MODE IS MY BEST EXPLANATION. FORTUNATELY, THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AT HOME AND NOT ON THE ROAD, HIGHWAY OR OTHER AREA OF TRAFFIC. I CAN ONLY ASSUME SOME KIND OF CABLE/MECHANISM BROKE. BOTTON LINE, GEAR WON'T GET OUT OF NEUTRAL MODE, EVEN WITH STEPS AS NOTED FROM VEHICLE MANUAL.
JUNE 14, 2018 RE: TOYOTA SIENNA DASHBOARD COVER RECALL COMPLAINT MY LOCAL DEALER, FRED ANDERSON TOYOTA OF COLUMBIA, PROMISED TO REPLACE MY 05 SIENNA DASHBOARD COVER UNDER A TOYOTA WARRANTY, ON JULY 3RD, 2015, AND THAT THEY WOULD ORDER THE DASHBOARD COVER PART AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN IT ARRIVED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR I MET WITH IN PERSON EACH TIME WAS MR. RON KIRKLAND. I FOLLOWED UP AGAIN ON DECEMBER 17, 2015, WHEN THEY AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THAT IT WAS ON ORDER, AND THAT THEY WOULD NOTIFY ME WHEN IT ARRIVED. I FOLLOWED UP BY PHONE A FEW TIMES IN 2016, AND EARLY IN 2017. I GOT THE SAME REPLY EACH TIME I SPOKE WITH MR. KIRKLAND. I THEN FOLLOWED UP AGAIN IN PERSON ON JULY 26, 2017. I GOT THE SAME REPLY FROM MR. KIRKLAND. ON JUNE 11, 2018, I AGAIN SPOKE WITH MR. KIRKLAND REGARDING THE LACK OF PROGRESS IN COMPLETING THIS RECALL WORK. HE PROMISED TO LOOK INTO IT, AND PHONE ME WHEN HE HAD AN ANSWER. I FOLLOWED UP AGAIN WITH MR. KIRKLAND ON JUNE 14, 2018, WHEN MR. KIRKLAND STATED THAT TOYOTA WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO HONOR THIS WARRANTY WORK. I VOICED MY DISPLEASURE ABOUT TOYOTA, AND MR. KIRKLANDS LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM IN RESOLVING THIS WARRANTY SERVICE IN A TIMELY MANNER BACK IN 2015. I ASKED ONE FINAL QUESTION OF MR. KIRKLAND, HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST ME IF I PAID FOR THE DASHBOARD COVER REPLACEMENT? HE GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $2,000. MORE THAN 50% OF THE CURRENT VALUE OF THE SIENNA. I AM NOW ATTEMPTING TO CONTACT EVERYONE AND ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN, IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET THIS SITUATION RESOLVED ' HONORING THE DASHBOARD COVER REPLACEMENT AS TOYOTA PROMISED ME IN 2015.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 - 15 MPH UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT ON A GENTLY CURVING OVERPASS, THE STABILITY CONTROL ENGAGED, SHARPLY JERKING THE STEERING UNCONTROLLABLY IN THE WRONG DIRECTION AND HINDERING MY ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE OR BRAKE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE PREVIOUSLY, BOTH ON CURVES, AND ON NEITHER OF THOSE OCCASIONS WAS I EXCEEDING THE SPEED LIMIT, NOR WAS THERE ANY REASON FOR THE SYSTEM TO ENGAGE.
THE LIGHT AIRBAGS IS ON DON'T GO OUT SAME TIME WORKS REGULARLY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND THE REAR END SWERVED SIDEWAYS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 DAYS AND ONLY WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT OPEN IN EITHER AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL MODE FROM THE INSIDE. IT WILL OPEN IF SOMEONE PULLS THE HANDLE FROM THE OUTSIDE. POSSIBLE MOTOR AND OR CABLE PROBLEM. THERE ARE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I FOUND ON THE INTERNET. IT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY ABOUT A YEAR AGO BUT NOW IT'S PERMANENT AND CAN ONLY BE OPENED FROM PULLING ON THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE.
DASHBOARD WAS REPLACED IN A RECALL AND AFTER THE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED THE AIRBAG INFLATED LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH A SENSOR AND WAS NOT RELATED TO THE WORK THEY HAD PERFORMED, YET SAID IT NEEDED TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THAT AND FOR ANY OTHER WORK DONE AS A RESULT OF IT. HOW COULD THEY POSSIBLY KNOW IT'S UNRELATED TO THE WORK THEY PERFORMED IF THEY HAD NOT DONE THE DIAGNOSTIC AND IT HAD NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WORKED ON IT?. I FEEL STRONGLY THAT THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO AVOID HAVING TO DO ANY EXTRA WORK IT'S NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR PAID FOR. AS A RESULT THIS IS CREATING A HIGHLY UNSAFE SITUATION WITH A FALSE READING AND NOT KNOWING IF THE AIRBAGS WILL ACCIDENTALLY DEPLOY OR IF THEY WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS PUTTING MY FAMILY AND I AT RISK
CABLE ON SPARE TIRE CARRIER UNDER VEHICLE BROKE AND FORTUNATELY SPARE TIRE APPEARED TO HAVE BOUNCED AWAY FORM VEHICLE AND IN TO LAVA FIELD. COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH WORSE. LOCAL DEALERSHIP STATED THEY HAVE NO INFORMATION REGARDING A RECALL ON THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER. HOWEVER, I SEE IT REFLECTED ON LINE. I HAVE A BROKEN SPARE TIRE CARRIER AND CANNOT LOCATE THE SPARE ANYWHERE IF THE FIELD. TOYOTA USA STATES TO CONTACT SERVCO BUT THEY ARE OF NO HELP.
"TAKATA RECALL" THE CAR IS MOVING SOME EVEN IT'S IN PARK POSITION .LATER THE GEAR SHIFTER BECOME LOOSE NOW I HAVE TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE EVERY TIME I PARK MY CAR. I CALL THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE 05 AND 06,07 ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID YOUR VIN NUMBER IS NOT LISTED ON RECALL. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP
"TAKATA RECALL" PROBLEM WITHIN THE SHIFT LOCK ASSEMBLY, THE SHIFT LEVER MOVES OUT OF THE 'PARK' POSITION WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL.
PASSENGER SEAT WARMER WAS ON THE OTHER DAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND BEGAN SMOKING AND MELTED THE SEAT IN THE SHAPE OF A DIME. FOR A COUPLE WEEKS IT WAS CAUSING BURNING FEELING IN LEGS FROM BEING TOO HOT. I TURNED OFF SEAT WARMER AND HIT THE SEAT UNTIL THE SMOKING STOPPED.
THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER ON OUR 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA BECAME LOOSE AND WOBBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND MY WIFE SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. SHE HEARD A NOISE LIKE SOMETHING HAD BROKEN AND FALLEN TO THE FLOOR BEHIND THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER. THE LEVER WAS LOOSE AND WOBBLY AFTER THAT. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR OUR PARTICULAR SIENNA.
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE SLIDING SIDE DOOR CLOSED ON MY SON'S FINGERS, AND THEY GOT JAMMED IN THE DOOR. THE SENSOR ON THE SLIDING DOOR DID NOT WORK, WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE NOT CLOSED WHEN IT HIT MY SON'S FINGERS.
THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT GETS TWISTED WITH RETRACTION & GETS STUCK IN THE EXTENDED POSITION CAUSING A SAFETY CONCERN
ABS LIGHTS ACTIVATE GOING AT SPEEDS FROM 15-60 ON ANY TYPE OF CURVES THEN STARTS BRAKING AUTOMATICALLY. THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A WHILE AND AS LATE AS THIS PAST WEEKEND (10 TIMES) ON HIGHWAY 299 WEST FROM REDDING,CA. - EUREKA, CA. THESE SENSORS NEED TO BE RECALLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AND SHIFTING GEARS, THE SHIFTER WAS VERY LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CITY TOYOTA (255 SAN PEDRO ROAD, DALY CITY, CA 94014) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V429000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED FOR REPAIRS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE PRESENT RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 152,000.
I WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED IN MY SIENNA AWD AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE TOP OF A FREEWAY ON-RAMP IN A MAJOR CITY, AND REAR-ENDED BY A VEHICLE BEGINNING TO TRAVEL DOWN THE ON-RAMP AT AN UNKNOWN BUT HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND NOT HEEDING THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL. ON IMPACT, THE REAR CARGO COMPARTMENT OF MY SIENNA CRUSHED INWARD SO FAR THAT IT CAUSED THE THIRD ROW BENCH SEAT TO MOVE FORWARD AND PROPEL THE SEAT PART OF THE BENCH SEAT INTO THE BACKS OF THE SECOND ROW CAPTAIN'S CHAIRS IN FRONT OF IT. THIS WOULD HAVE CRUSHED THE LEGS AND MAYBE WHOLE BODY OF ANYONE SEATED IN THE OUTER TWO SEATS OF THE REAR BENCH SEAT, AND PERHAPS IN THE MIDDLE POSITION AS WELL. I FOUND A PIECE OF PAPER BAG CAUGHT BETWEEN THE BOTTOM SEAT EDGE OF THE BENCH SEAT AND THE BACK OF A CAPTAIN'S CHAIR, AND I COULD NOT PULL THAT PIECE OF PAPER FREE. I HAD TO PULL REALLY HARD TO REMOVE THE LARGE PACK OF TOILET TISSUE, SHOWN IN THE UPLOADED PHOTO, IN ORDER TO DISLODGE IT FROM THE REAR BENCH SEAT AREA. THE TISSUE PACK LIKELY IS NARROWER THAN THE TRUNK OF AN ADULT HUMAN BODY WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT THERE, WITH LEGS ALSO CRUSHED BY THE LOWER PORTION OF THE BENCH SEAT AS IT IMPACTED THE BACK OF THE CAPTAIN'S CHAIR IN FRONT OF IT. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM IS A POOR DESIGN; INADEQUATE REAR-CRASH PROTECTION FOR THIRD-ROW PASSENGERS, WHO USUALLY ARE CHILDREN. AS A PARENT AND VEHICLE OWNER, I WAS NEVER WARNED ABOUT THE GREAT DANGER MY CHILDREN COULD BE IN IF THEY SEATED ANYWHERE ALONG THE THIRD-ROW BENCH SEAT DURING A REAR-END COLLISION. I'M TRAUMATIZED BY THE THOUGHT OF A CHILD OR ANYONE HAVING BEEN SEATED IN THE THIRD ROW AT THE TIME OF THIS COLLISION, WHICH FORTUNATELY THEY WERE NOT IN THIS INSTANCE.
IN MY TOYOTA SIENNA 2005 VAN, THE LIFTGATE WOULD GO UP AND THEN SUDDENLY DROP ABOUT A FOOT AND THEN CONTINUE TO CLOSE. THIS HAPPENS IN THE WINTER MORE THAN IN THE SUMMER.
TWO INSTANCES IN OCT 2017 OF BRAKES ACTIVATING WITHOUT DRIVER ACTION. BRAKING ACCOMPANIED BY BEEPING - POSSIBLY ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) ACTIVATION SIGNAL. BRAKING REDUCED SPEED APPROXIMATELY 10-15MPH. BOTH INSTANCES OCCURRED ON THE SAME ROAD, A CURVY 45MPH LIMIT ASPHALT 2-LANE. CONDITIONS DRY, ~50 DEG F. BRAKING OCCURRED ON A STRAIGHT SECTION AND DID NOT PULL THE CAR TO ONE SIDE. DO NOT BELIEVE ANTI-LOCK ENGAGED. VAN HAS 137K MILES.TOYOTA SERVICE (11/9/17) : "NO PROBLEMS FOUND NO CODES STORED NO VEHICLE EVENT LOG (VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE THAT CAPABILITY) MORE OBVIOUS AND LIKELY CAUSE COULD HAVE BEEN THE FACT THAT THE FRONT TIRES WERE AT 20 PSI AND THE REAR AT 35 PSI, THE DISPARITY IN WHEEL SPEED SIGNALS COULD HAVE TRIGGERED A FALSE EVENT." VERBAL REPORT CONFIRMED "NO PROBLEMS FOUND" INCLUDING STEERING RACK BUSHINGS, STEERING ANGLE SENSOR, AND WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, WITH 6 YEARS EXPERIENCE AS A MECHANIC, SAID HE HAD ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE BUT IT WAS RARE. HE ALSO STATED THAT AN APPARENT DIFFERENCE OF ONLY 1MPH IN WHEEL SPEED COULD BE ENOUGH TO CAUSE INADVERTENT ESC ACTIVATION. HOWEVER, HE WAS UNSURE WHY THE PROBLEM, IF IT WAS CAUSED BY THE FORE/AFT INFLATION DIFFERENCE, WAS SO INTERMITTENT. THE DEALER WAIVED THE $98 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. A DRIVE ON THE SAME ROAD ON 11/10/17 DID NOT PRODUCE THE UNEXPECTED BRAKING, BUT IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER THIS MEANS THE EQUAL TIRE INFLATION FIXED THE PROBLEM AS, AS STATED, THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT. SYSTEMS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE SAFETY SHOULD FAIL IN WAYS THAT DO NOT COMPROMISE DRIVER CONTROL AND OWNERS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF CRITICAL MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES TO AVOID SUCH FAILURES. FAILURE OF ACTIVE SAFETY SYSTEMS SUCH AS ESC, RISKS DELAYING ACCEPTANCE OF INCREASING LEVELS OF DRIVER ASSISTANCE INCLUDING FULL AUTONOMOUS CONTROL, AN ADVANCE THAT PROMISES DRAMATIC REDUCTION IN ROAD MORTALITY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER 4 YEAR OLD CHILD STATED, "THAT HE SHIFTED THE GEAR SHIFT" AND THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION AND NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL WHILE SLOWLY RUNNING WITH THE VEHICLE BUT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED WAS ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT HITTING TWO BOULDERS AND A FENCE, THEN COMING TO A STOP. THE CONTACT STATED SUSTAINED BRUISING TO HER LEGS AND BACK INJURIES WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION 3 DAYS LATER. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BACK TO THE CONTACT'S HOME AND TOWED A WEEK LATER TO TOYOTA OF POWAY LOCATED AT 13631 POWAY RD, POWAY, CA 92064(858) 486-2900. THE CONTACT MENTIONED AFTER THE FAILURE, SHE RESEARCHED AND FOUND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V429000 (POWER TRAIN).THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED AS WELL AS A TOYOTA FIELD TECHNICAL SPECIALIST WAS SENT TO THE DEALER TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS INFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT "NO ABNORMALITIES WERE FOUND WITH THE GEAR LEVER AND SHIFT CABLE". THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 250,000.
CPSC:I CURRENTLY OWN 2 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA MINIVANS. I'VE HAD ONE FOR AT LEAST 8 YEARS (NOW HAS ~212,000 MILES AND THE OTHER I PURCHASED IN THE LAST MONTH (HAS ~127,000). THE ENGINE IN MY ORIGINAL VAN HAS BEEN WONDERFUL HOWEVER CURRENTLY YOU CANNOT OPEN EITHER OF THE SLIDING SIDE DOORS, WITH THE AUTOMATIC OPTION OR MANUALLY. THE AUTOMATIC FEATURE BROKE. *BF UPDATED THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE'S HATCH DOOR WOULD NOT ALWAYS CLOSE AND THE SLIDING DOORS HAVE COME OFF TRACK AND BECOME INOPERATIVE. 08/18/2017*JS
IT WAS IN THE ACCIDENT AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. IT ALWAYS HAS THE LIGHT ON
HUSBAND PULLED INTO PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A STORE, HE WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED IN THE SPOT AND BEFORE HE COULD PUT IN PARK IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FULL REV, HOPPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING. WHILE UP AGAINST THE BUILDING IT WAS STILL IN FULL REV. FINALLY IT STOPPED AND HE BACKED IT BACK OVER THE CURB. VAN WENT ABOUT THREE FEET INTO THE BUILDING. TIRE ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS FLATTENED. VAN HAS BEEN TOTALED. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF OUR VAN.
WHILE ON THE ROAD, INFREQUENTLY AS WE START HITTING CONTINUOUS CURVES, THE BEEPING STARTS WITH SLIP CONTROL SYMBOL COMING ON. THE BRAKES ENGAGE ON THEIR OWN. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW WE TAKE THE CURVES. I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE AT THAT POINT AND IT STARTS BRAKING ITSELF FOR FEW SECONDS. VERY DANGEROUS ON THE CURVES AND ESPECIALLY IF SOMEONE IS BEHIND YOU.
SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT LIKE IT SHOULD. THIS HAPPENS TOO OFTEN. NOT JUST IN MY CAR.
TAKATA INFLATORS - WHEN DRIVING IN CITY 30MPH OR FREEWAY 50-60MPH IN CURVY PATH, THE UNTI-SKID LOCK TURNS OFF EVEN IF THE ROAD WAS DRY. WHEN IT HAPPENED FREQUENTLY AND A MOTORCYCLE ALMOST SLAMMED FROM BEHIND, I BROUGHT MY VAN TO THE DEALER AND IT SHOWS NO RECORD OF THE UNTI-SKID LOCK BEING ON. I INSISTED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS AND THEY DID A ZERO CALIBRATION, CHANGED NEW TIRES AND REALIGNMENT BUT PROBLEM PERSIST. I BROUGHT IT BACK WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT BUT THEY CLAIMED THE THEY NEVER HAD ANY OTHER CUSTOMER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I REACHED ONLINE YET THERE WERE MANY OTHERS. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME ON THIS. THE DEALER CAN'T FIGURE OUT THIS PROBLEM AND JUST WASHED THEIR HANDS. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ALREADY AND AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VAN.
THE CAR DASHBOARDS IS CRACKED AND STICKY
DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS MAKING LOUD NOISE WHEN DOOR IS OPENED OR CLOSED. THIS POPPING NOISE IS COMING FROM DOOR CHECK POCKET. I'D NOTICED THAT TOYOTA HAD RECALLED SEVERAL VEHICLES RELATED TO THIS ISSUE HOWEVER THEY DIDN'T RECALL SOME OF THE OTHER VEHICLES INCLUDING OURS.
THE DASH BOARD IS CRACKED ON OR NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. I FEEL THIS COULD BE A PROBLEM FOR THE PASSENGER IF ACTIVATED. TOYOTA KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAD A RECALL WHICH ENDED MY 2017. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL. A CHECK WITH TOYOTA AND THEY STATE NOTHING CAN BE DONE.
WHILE DRIVING ON A NORMAL DAY NO RAIN OR ANY SLIPPERY CONDITION ON THE ROAD GOING ABOUT 40 MILES AN HOUR MY VEHICLE ANTI SLIP SYSTEM INGAGED AND BREAK MOMENTARY AND VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIME WHY IS THIS SYSTEM ENGAGING WHEN IT'S NOT RAINING OR NO SLIPPERY CONDITION EXISTING ON THE ROAD.
