I OWN A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN AND HAVE BEEN BRAGGING ON IT TO EVERYONE EXCEPT FOR ONE BIG PROBLEM THAT HAS HAUNTED ME SINCE 2016. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT HAS FAULTY SEAT BELTS THAT WERE INSTALLED IN THIS VAN AND THEY WERE RECALLED. IT TOOK FOREVER TO CONVINCE ADAMS OF LEE'S SUMMIT TO REPLACE THEM BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T DO IT EVERY TIME. MY HUSBAND [XXX] FOUGHT WITH [XXX] OF LEE'S SUMMIT DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TRYING TO GET THE ORIGINAL RECALL PERFORMED BECAUSE THE SEATBELTS WOULD NOT DO IT EVERY TIME. IN THE MEAN TIME I WAS FORCED TO CARRY A SMALL SCREWDRIVER A FORCED TO SIT IN PARKING LOTS IN DANGER AS I FOUGHT TO TRY AND UNTANGLE THE CROSSOVER OF THE SEATBELT. THAN AFTER MANY TRIPS THEY FINALLY REPLACED THE SEATBELTS. WITHIN A YEAR THE POST HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT BROKE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND IT BROKE IN THE UP TALLEST POSITION WEAR MY 6' 2' HUSBAND NEEDS IT. I AM A 5'5' WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES AND HAVING TO CONSTANTLY FIGHT WITH THESE SEATBELTS TO GO TO MY DOCTORS APPOINTMENTS IS HORRIBLE. SO NOW IT SITS ACROSS MY THROAT, VERY PAINFUL AND UNSAFE. HE HAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TWO TIMES AND THEY REFUSE TO HONOR THEIR WORK OR PART. FIRST TIME ON 05/02/2017 WHICH WAS LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER IT WAS REPLACED, NOTED AS BODY/INTERIOR REPAIR ORDER. THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR IT. SECOND TIME WE BROUGHT IT UP AGAIN AT AN OIL CHANGE ON 7/3/2018 THEY ALSO REFUSED. THEY WERE PAID TO INSTALL IT UNDER WARRANTY IT SHOULD COME WITH SOME TYPE OF A WARRANTY WITH THIS INSTALLATION. SEATBELTS ARE DESIGNED TO BE WORN ACROSS OUR LEGS AND ACROSS OUR SHOULDER, NOT OUR NECK. I FEEL SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE FOR MY SAFETY. YOU ATTENTION TO THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATE. SIENNA WAS ACCELERATING FROM 40-45 MPH AND A SLIGHT RIGHT TURN ON A CITY STREET, WHEN THE VSC LIGHTS TURNED ON AND APPLIED BRAKES. CITY STREET WAS DRY, WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND SUNNY.
THIS IS A CUSTOMERS CAR. I WORK IN AN ALIGNMENT SHOP. THE CUSTOMER DROPPED THIS CAR OFF THIS MORNING FOR AN ALIGNMENT. I DROVE THE CAR INTO THE SHOP, ON THE ALIGNMENT RACK THIS MORNING. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, AND WALKED AROUND TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR, I NOTICED THE HOOD WAS OPEN. I DID NOT REMEMBER POPPING THE HOOD, BUT I FIGURED I JUST FORGOT, AND PROCEEDED TO SHUT THE HOOD, AS I DIDN'T NEED IT OPEN TO ALIGN THE VEHICLE. WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE THE HOOD, IT WOULD NOT CATCH, IT JUST KEPT POPPING BACK UP. IT SEEMED TO ME THAT THE LATCH WAS STUCK. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD, I LOOKED UNDER THE DASH. WHAT I FOUND, WAS THE HOOD LATCH CABLE WAS ROUTED UNDER THE PARKING BRAKE ARM, EVERY TIME YOU SET THE PARKING BRAKE, YOU WERE "POPPING" THE HOOD! THIS CAN BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION! IF YOU SET THE PARKING BRAKE WITHOUT KNOWING THE HOOD IS OPEN, YOU COULD GET BACK IN THE CAR AND DRIVE AWAY, AND HAVE THE HOOD FLY OPEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED, VERY DANGEROUS! ON THIS CAR I DISCONNECTED THE LATCH CABLE, AND REROUTED IT.
DRIVERS DOOR CHECK STRAP SPOT HAS WELD FAILED AND THE DOOR MAKES A CLICKING SOUND WHEN YOU OPEN OR SHUT THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. BECAUSE OF THE MANUFACTURING FAILURE YOU DO HAVE TO SLAM THE DOOR SHUT TO MAKE SURE IT IS ALL THE WAY CLOSED OR IT WILL NOT LATCH PROPERLY AND OPEN UP WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM . TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A WARRANTY EXTENSION TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT UNFORTUNATELY A LOT OF THE VEHICLES MANUFACTURE SAFETY DEFECTS ARE VOID PAST THE WARRANTY EXTENSIONS AND THE COSTUMER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION BEFORE WARRANTY VOIDED AND IT IS UP TO THE CONSUMERS TO FIX THE PROBLEM ON THEIR OWN AT THEIR OWN OUT OF POCKET COST. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND SAFETY ISSUE.
AIRBAG LIGHT TURN ON WITH NO REASON

DASHBOARD STARTED BECOMING SOFT A FEW MONTHS AGO, WHERE IF YOU ACCIDENTLY SCRAPED IT WITH YOUR FINGERNAIL A LITTLE CHUNK WOULD COME OUT, AND THEN IT STARTED CRACKING AND EVERY TIME WE GET IN THERE, THERE IS ANOTHER CRACK. WORRIED ABOUT AIR BAG COMING OUT. I'M JUST NOW READING THAT A LETTER WAS SENT OUT FROM TOYOTA ABOUT THIS TO OWNERS, BUT WE NEVER GOT ONE. WE HAVE GOTTEN ONE FOR A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS, BUT NOT FOR THIS AND WE DIDN'T GET ONE FOR CLICKING NOISE ON DRIVER'S DOOR EITHER, WHICH IS HAPPENING NOW. I KNOW THE CAR IS OLDER, BUT IF THESE ARE DEFECTS, TOYOTA SHOULD FIX THEM. I'M READING ABOUT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS.
FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELTS CONSTANTLY FOLDING OVER AND GETTING STUCK IN RETRACTING MECHANISM. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER VAN IS STATIONARY OR DRIVING. PULL OUT SEAT BELT TO BUCKLE, IT GETS FOLDED AND STUCK ON THE WAY BACK IN. THEN IT WON'T GO IN OR OUT.
MILEAGE 128,054 AIRBAG LIGHT WENT GONE OFF. TOYOTA SAYING THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACE. THEY PERFORMED A HARD COMPUTER REST. 02/13/17 - 02/25/17 (CURRENT) THE LIGHT COMES ON AT DIFFERENT TIMES'. LIGHT COMES ON WHEN CAR IS STARTED IN PARK LIGHT COMES ON ONCE THE CAR IS STARTED AND THE DRIVER SEAT BELT IS CONNECTED LIGHT COMES ON ONCE THE CAR IS STARTED, DRIVER SEAT BELT CONNECTED AND THE CAR IS IN DRIVE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE DASHBOARD ON A RECALL AND SINCE THEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON.
SEAT BELTS WON'T BE ABLE TO RETRACT. IT IS GETTING WORSE AND WORSE.
WHEN THE LIFTGATE IS OPEN ELECTRONICALLY, IT FALLS ABOUT 10 INCHES AFTER IT REACHES THE FULLY OPEN POSITION AT WHICH POINT THE POWER MOTOR WILL ENGAGE AND POWER THE LIFTGATE TO THE FULLY CLOSED POSITION. THE LIFTGATE SAFETY OPERATION DOES NOT GO BACK INTO OPEN POSITION WITH CHILDREN UNDERNEATH THE LIFTGATE UNTIL AFTER INJURY. THERE NEEDS TO BE RECALL BEFORE MAJOR INJURY HAPPENS TO A CHILD. THESE CHILDREN ARE GETTING THEIR BACKPACKS WITHOUT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE LIFTGATE AND IT IS CLOSING ON THEM!
I'VE NOTICED A CRACK THAT HAS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD (NEAR GLOVE COMPARTMENT) AT THE PASSENGER SIDE GOING TOWARDS THE RADIO PLAYER. THERE'S ANOTHER CRACK ON THE DASHBOARD NEAR THE VENT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I'VE DONE MY RESEARCH REGARDING THIS AND FOUND THAT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. I'VE CONTACTED A REPRESENTATIVE OF TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN TYSONS, VA FOR THEM TO TAKE A LOOK. I ALSO WANTED TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT REGARDING THIS ISSUE.
IN STATIONARY MODE MY SLIDING DOORS WILL NOT OPEN, OR WILL OPEN INTERMITTENTLY, OR WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL OR WILL NOT CLOSE AT ALL OR WILL NOT LATCH. THE PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE ALL THE WAY AND SO I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE DOOR UNLATCHED AND BEEPING AT ME STAYING PART WAY OPEN EVEN WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. I SEE THAT THE 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA WAS GIVEN AN EXTRA 9 YEARS WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE OR 120K MILES, MY CAR HAS ONLY 110K MILES AND HAS THE SAME ISSUES AS THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V858. BOTH DOORS WERE AFFECTED WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE ACTUATOR MOTORS ON BOTH SIDES AS COINCIDENTALLY GOING OUT AT THE SAME TIME BUT REPLACING THE ACTUATOR MOTOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. AFTER REMOVING THE PASSENGER DOOR THEY SAY THAT THE CABLE IS BAD AND THE CLUTCH IS WORN OUT ON THE MOTOR/PART THAT MOVES THE DOOR IS BAD OR BROKEN. THE FIRST NIGHT I SAW THE PROBLEM THE CAR ALARM CAME ON REALLY MUFFLED AND RAN THE BATTERY DOWN SO THE BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS MAY HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE DOOR IS MY THINKING SINCE ALL THIS HAPPENED WITHIN A FEW HOURS OF EACH EVENT. (THIS DOOR HAS BEEN FROZEN SHUT TWICE SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO WAIT FOR IT TO THAW TO GET IT TO OPEN OR SHUT.) THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD HEAVY USE, ONLY LIGHT USE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT INTERIOR PLASTIC COVERS FAILED. THE HEADLIGHT COVERS EXHIBITED A HEAVY, WHITE, FOGGY DISCOLORATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT INTERIOR COVERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE HEADLIGHT INTERIOR COVERS WERE NOT REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
THIS REPORT INCLUDES TWO SEPARATE SAFETY ISSUES. FIRST ISSUE: AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ONTO MY STREET, MY CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE GEAR FROM REVERSE. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER TURNING THE KEY OFF SINCE IT WAS STILL IN REVERSE, EVEN THOUGH THE LEVER WAS SHIFTED BACK TO PARK. THANKFULLY, I DON'T LIVE ON A BUSY STREET AND THERE HAPPENED TO BE A FEW LINEMEN DOING WORK THAT WERE ABLE TO PUSH THE VAN BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY. WITH TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND NOT BEING ABLE TO PUSH THE VAN ON MY OWN, THIS COULD'VE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN A BUSY LOCATION. AFTER DISASSEMBLING THE DASH, MY HUSBAND DISCOVERED THE MECHANISM IN THE GEAR SHIFT HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND WAS ABLE TO REPAIR IT HIMSELF INSTEAD OF TOWING IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER FOR PRICEY REPAIRS AND TOWING FEES. SECOND ISSUE: ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS (USUALLY, BUT NOT ALWAYS, WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO A HIGHWAY ON-RAMP) THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE, A REPETITIVE BEEPING WILL SOUND, AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND BECOMES DIFFICULT TO CONTROL SINCE IT FREEZES UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON DRY ROADS AND SMOOTH DRIVING CONDITIONS ONLY WHEN NO TRACTION CONTROL IS NEEDED. EACH TIME IS HAPPENS IT IS A STRESSFUL EXPERIENCE SINCE IT COULD BE LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO LACK OF CONTROL. AFTER CALLING A TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER TO INQUIRE IF THERE ARE ANY KNOWN ISSUES OF THIS, THEY DENY IT. UPON DOING OUR OWN RESEARCH, WE WERE ABLE TO DISCOVER OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. A VERY SIMILAR REPLICATION OF OUR SITUATION IS SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT OURS DOESN'T HAPPEN AS OFTEN IN ONE DRIVE. AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE. THE CABLE MECHANISM APPEARS TO BE BROKEN. I CAN'T USE THE DOOR UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. I TOOK THE VAN IN FOR SERVICE WITH THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT LETTER IN 2013 AND WAS TOLD NO REPAIRS WERE NEEDED. NOW THAT THE DOOR IS BROKEN, TOYOTA IS SAYING THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND I MUST PAY FOR REPAIRS. WHEN ASKED WHY THEY DIDN'T CHANGE OUT THE FAULTY PARTS - CSD SAID THE DOOR IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE! I SEE HUNDREDS OF POSTS FOR SIMILAR PROBLEM. WHY ISN'T THE SLIDING DOOR BEING RECALLED?
THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON FOR THE THIRD TIME SINCE I GOT MY CAR, IT GOT FIXED TWICE BEFORE UNDER THE WARRANTY BUT NOW IS NOT IN THE WARRANTY NO MORE.
CRANKSHAFT PULLEY SAFETY RECALL - 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA -RECALL # 11V539000 MORE VEHICLES POSSIBLY AFFECTED THAN STATED IN RECALL NOTICE. DEALER STATED VIN DID NOT FALL IN RANGE OF RECALL, ALTHOUGH THE DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY PART STAMPED WITH MARK HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED ON MY VEHICLE. BURNING SMELL RELATED TO DRIVE BELT WHILE DRIVING AND ABNORMAL ENGINE NOISE. UPON REPLACING NEW DRIVE BELT, THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WAS INSPECTED AND SHOWN TO FAIL DUE THE INADEQUATE ADHESIVE STATED IN THE RECALL. NOTIFIED DEALER, CALLED TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE AND OPENED CASE#1611070038. BOTH DEALER AND TOYOTA REFUSED RECALL SINCE VIN WAS NOT IN RANGE. TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE STATED NO PHOTOS OR EVIDENCE WERE REQUIRED TO SHOW THE FAILED CRANKSHAFT PULLEY. PLEASE USED THE DETAILS AND PHOTOS ATTACHED FOR ODI# 10924632

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V539000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
WHEN DRIVING THROUGH SWEEPING TURNS ON DRY, PAVED ROADS, THE VEHICLE'S VSC ENGAGES, CAUSING VEHICLE TO SELF BRAKE, PULLING TO THE LEFT (TOWARD ONCOMING TRAFFIC), AND THE VSC LIGHT ON THE DASH TO BLINK AND BEEP. THIS PUTS THE PASSENGERS OF MY CAR IN DANGER, AS WELL AS THOSE IN VEHICLES AROUND US WHO ARE NOT EXPECTING A SUDDEN APPLICATION OF BRAKES OR SWERVING INTO NEIGHBORING LANE. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WITH NO FINDINGS WHICH WOULD WARRANT THE VEHICLE TO ENGAGE IN SUCH ACTIVITY. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. DEALERSHIP WANTS $5000 TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG HARNESS ASSEMBLY BECAUSE THE IMPACT IMAGE SENSOR IS DAMAGED. THIS SEEMS LIKE A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY FOR A SENSOR.
VEHICLE'S VSC ENGAGED AND APPLIED BRAKING AND STEERING INTERFERENCE AT 65 MPH ON A STRAIGHTWAY ON THE HIGHWAY IN DRY CONDITIONS AND ON A NON-DISTRESSED ROADWAY. THIS CAUSED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
WHEN THE REAR SLIDING DOOR WAS CLOSING, THE CABLE BROKE INSIDE THE DOOR AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE. I WAS AT PRESCHOOL PICKING MY KIDS UP SO I HAD TO CALL A FRIEND AND THE ONLY WAY WE COULD GET THE DOOR CLOSED WAS BY CUTTING THE CABLE.
MY STEERING HAS BEEN GETTING STIFF FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS. ABOUT A MONTH I NOTICED THAT MY STEERING WAS STIFF AND THEN SMOOTH A FEW DAYS LATER. NOW IT FEELS STIFF AT COLD START AND EVEN AFTER WARM UP FROM NORMAL DRIVING. I HAVE NEW BELTS AND NO POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK. I'VE READ MANY BLOGS ONLINE AND PEOPLE CLAIMING THAT THE (U-JOINT) AKA "STEERING KNUCKLE" IS THE CAUSE. DUE TO WATER/DIRT/SALT FROM THE ROAD - CAUSING RUST ON THE U-JOINT. TOYOTA MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF INSTALLING A RUBBER BOOT TO PROTECT THE U-JOINT FROM EXPOSURE OF WEATHER ELEMENTS. IF THE U-JOINT IS BADLY RUSTED, IT CAN BREAK OFF AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS A SAFETY RECALL.
THE LIFT GATE STRUTS, WHICH HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED VIA A RECALL HAVE FAILED. THE LIFT GATE WILL NOT STAY OPEN WITH THE LIFT GATE MOTOR ON OR OFF. IT SLAMS SHUT AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. WHEN TRYING LOAD IN GROCERIES TODAY, THE LIFT GATE TRIED TO CLOSE ON ME. LUCKY CHILDREN WHERE NOT THE ONES THAT WERE UNDERNEATH.
POWER DOOR IS UNABLE TO OPEN DUE TO A CABLE WIRE CAME OUT FROM SYSTEM.
PASSENGER SIDE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR STOPPED WORKING 5 YEARS AGO SO WE USED IT MANUALLY. DOOR STOPPED WORKING MANUALLY 2 YEARS AGO. DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WAS NOT AUTOMATIC. ONE YEAR AGO BEGAN NOT WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. NOW YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. THIS POSSES A GREAT SAFETY HAZARD. PASSENGERS IN THE REAR TWO ROWS OF THE VAN CANNOT OPEN EITHER DOOR IN AN EMERGENCY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL OFF WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND ENGINE WOULD SURGE, THE RPMS WOULD DECREASE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK TO THE LEFT. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR INTERNAL METAL IS PULLING AWAY FROM ITSELF WHERE THE DOOR CHECK IS. THIS ALSO CAUSES THE METAL TO CUT INTO THE DOOR CHECK. TOYOTA IMPLEMENTED YEARS AGO A CUSTOMER PROGRAM TO HELP FOR THE FIRST 10 YEARS OR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY. HOWEVER THIS DOES NOT COVER VEHICLES THAT HAD AN ISSUE AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED OR IF THEY BUY THE CAR USED. DUE TO THIS I AM REQUIRED TO HAVE THE WHOLE DOOR REPLACED AND ALSO PAINTING THAT WHOLE SIDE OF THE CAR WHICH WILL BE A TOTAL OF $2,114.64. I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SINCE NO RECALL WAS ISSUED AND ONLY THE CUSTOMER PROGRAM WAS SETUP TO HELP CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE.
STEERING HAS BECOME INTERMITTENTLY STIFF. STEERING WHEEL DOESN'T SELF CENTER. IT'S DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL EITHER WAY. AFTER TURNING THE WHEEL VERY HARD, IT SUDDENLY BECOMES EASY. THIS PHENOMENON OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, AND AT ALL SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM STARTED APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS AGO, AND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS WORKING PROPERLY, THE BELT IS IN GOOD CONDITION, THERE ARE NO POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKS AND THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL IS CORRECT.
I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND SHOWED UP 15 MINUTES EARLY AT 11:15AM FOR MY APPOINTMENT AT A THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER ON 4TH AVENUE IN SAN FRANCISCO. I HAVE TWO RECALLS ISSUES ON MY 2005 SIENNA (SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID AND CORROSION OF THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER) AND THIS SUPER ANNOYING AND UNSAFE LOCKING OF MY FRONT SEAT BELTS BOTH ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. THE SEAT BELT ISSUE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT - ZF2. IT TOOK THEM 5 HOURS TO FIX BOTH RECALL BUT THEY REFUSE TO FIX MY SEAT BELT ISSUE. AT FIRST, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE. I DROVE OFF AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW, THE SEAT BEAT GOT STUCK AGAIN! I DROVE BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND SHOW MY SERVICE PERSON. HE JERKED THE SEAT BELT LEFT AND RIGHT TO LOOSEN IT AND THEN SAID THIS "JUST HAPPENS" AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. HE SAID THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT WAS FOR THE RETRACTOR MECHANISM AND NOT FOR THE FOLDING SEATBELT ISSUE. I SAID, THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE SEATBELT HOLDER/ATTACHMENT AND TOYOTA SHOULD FIX IT. WAS TOLD, "NOPE, SORRY, CAN'T HELP YOU." I WAS SO MAD. WASTED A WHOLE DAY AND DIDN'T GET THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE TO ME FIXED. TOYOTA IS NO LONGER CARING ABOUT ITS CUSTOMER.
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT JAMMED AND WON'T RETRACT. IT HAPPENS SO OFTEN EVEN AFTER DE-ASSEMBLED IT AND PUT BACK TOGETHER
WHILE DRIVING AROUND CURVES WITH DRY PAVEMENT ON HIGHWAYS AND EXIT/ENTRANCE RAMPS AT HIGHWAY RATES OF SPEED (55-65 MILES PER HOUR OR LESS) THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGE,S CAUSING THE VAN TO PULSE AND SLOW DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. IT DISENGAGES ONCE THE WHEEL STRAIGHTENS. WE FIRST TRIED TO TROUBLE SHOOT WITH OUR LOCAL MECHANIC WITH NO SUCCESS, PROMPTING US TO HAVE OUR LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ATTEMPT TO DIAGNOSIS. INITIALLY THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM OR REPLICATE IT ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY (AS IT DOES NOT OCCUR ON EVERY CURVE ENCOUNTERED) AND WERE READY TO SEND US HOME WITHOUT ANY REMEDY. THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE. WITH OUR PERSISTENCE THEY HOOKED IT UP TO A COMPUTER AND DETERMINED(WITHOUT GUARANTEEING) IT WAS THE STEERING ANGEL SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. NOW WITHOUT RETURNING THE VAN TO US, THEY WANT US TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM FOR EVEN MORE COST, AGAIN, WITHOUT GUARANTEEING THIS WILL ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. PER OUR READING UP ON THIS PROBLEM, WE HAVE FOUND THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE PROBLEM FOR OTHER 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA MINIVANS.

I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE AND I HAVE AN L SHAPED DRIVEWAY. I WAS GOING APPROX. 2MPH AND THEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND WAS "COVERING" THE BRAKE AND SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND I TRIED TO BRAKE, BUT THE CAR SLAMMED INTO A PARKED CAR AND STILL DID NOT STOP. IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL I ENDED UP IN THE STREET. I WAS TRYING TO BRAKE THE ENTIRE TIME, BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS. WE LIVE ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET IN THE SUBURBS AND LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. THE SIENNA AND THE PARKED CAR BOTH HAVE EXTENSIVE BODY DAMAGE.
SHIFT CONTROL DIDN'T WORK AND VAN ROLLED AWAY. WE ALSO HAD AN ISSUE BACKING OUT OF OUR GARAGE AND THE CAR SPED UP AND WENT OUT OF CONTROL. THE VAN WAS OUT OF CONTROL AND FINALLY STOPPED OUT IN THE STREET. THIS VAN SCARED THE DAY LIGHTS OUT OF US. COMPLETE DEFECT
THE RIGHT SIDE (PASSENGER) HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. REPLACEMENT OF THE LIGHT BULB (WHICH WAS A WHOPPING 190.00) DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A SPECIAL TYPE OF HID LIGHT WHICH HAS A HEADLAMP CONTROL MODULE AKA BALLAST AKA COMPUTER THAT COULD BE BAD. DEALER QUOTED $600 TO FIX A HEADLIGHT. MY OTHER REPAIR SHOP QUOTED $450. REALLY TOYOTA? $450-600 TO FIX A HEADLIGHT???? RIDICULOUS. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THIS MUCH TO FIX A HEADLIGHT. WHO ENGINEERED THIS? BEYOND FRUSTRATED.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND ENTERING A LEFT TURN CURVE, THE ABS AND VSC LIGHTS ACTIVATED AND THE VEHCLE LURCHED VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT THEN BACK TO THGE LEFT. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AFTER A FEW SECONDS, BUT DURING THIS TIME TIME I WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE FACILITY. THE BRAKES AND STABILITY CONTROL WERE INSPECTED. THERE WERE NOT ANY TROUBLE CODES STORED. EXAMINATION OF THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS REVEALED THE RIGHT AND LEFT SENSORS WERE SEIZED IN THEIR MOUNTING BRACKETS. WE BELIEVE THE SENSORS HAVE RUSTED AND HAVE SWOLLEN. WE HAD THE ABS AND VSC SYSTEMS DISCONNECTED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE THIS WAS DONE. WE ARE PLANNING ON REPLACING THESE SENSOR IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS ON MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA AWD XLE. ALTHOUGH ALL OF THE DOORS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, THE PROBLEMS CONTINUE WITH FRONT DOORS SQUEAKING, THE BACK SLIDING DOOR AUTOMATIC DOOR DOES NOT OPEN AND THE REAR HATCH FAILS TO CLOSE.
THE SLIDING DOORS CONTINUE TO MALFUNCTION WHERE YOU CAN'T OPEN AND GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE POTENTIAL FOR PEOPLE (E.G. KIDS, DISABLED FOLKS, OLDER PEOPLE) TO BE UNABLE TO GET OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES NOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THE AUTOMATIC DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AND THE MANUAL OVERRIDE DOES NOT WORK. ONCE DUE TO AN ACTUATOR, SEVERAL TIMES CAUSED BY A CRAPPY CABLE MECHANISM, AND NOW A FORTH TIME DUE TO WHO KNOWS WHAT. THE DEALER THIS TIME TOLD US IT WOULD COST $275 TO TAKE THE DOOR APART BEFORE HE COULD DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE ALREADY SPENT $3,000 FOR THE PAST TIMES THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. MY DISABLED SISTER GOT STUCK IN THE [XXX] CAR AND HAD TO BE MOVED OUT THE OTHER SIDE WHICH WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. WHAT IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND A PERSON CAN'T GET OUT? I SEE HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINT ON WEBSITES, AND LOOKING AT ONLY THREE ADD UP OVER 1000 COMPLAINTS, ALL ON THE SAME DOOR ISSUE. MULTIPLE TIMES WE WERE TRAVELING WITH SMALL CHILDREN AND THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT TOTALLY CLOSE. WHAT WERE WE TO DO? ONCE THE CABLE ASSEMBLY SNAPPED AND WE COULD NOT CLOSE IT. TOYOTA HAS TO BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND SHOULD BE MADE TO REPLACE THE DOOR WITH A DIFFERENT DESIGN OR JUST WITH A MANUAL ONE THAT PEOPLE CAN OPEN AND CLOSE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) ON MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA AWD XLE (127,000 MILES) IS ACTIVATED SUDDENLY AND FOR NO REASON. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AND HAPPENS WHEN ON A CURVE AT VARYING SPEEDS ON PERFECT ROAD AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. A BUZZER SOUNDS, VSC LIGHT COMES ON, BRAKES SLAM ON AND VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT. MECHANIC COULD FIND NOT ANYTHING. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP HAD NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. A GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. THIS IS FRIGHTENING, DANGEROUS AND CREATES UNSAFE CONDITIONS FOR PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE, AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AS THE CAR SUDDENLY AND DRASTICALLY REDUCES SPEED AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT. MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. ANY DEFECTIVE PART THAT POSES A SAFETY RISK SHOULD BE RECALLED BY LAW! IT SEEMS THAT MOST PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM ARE OUTSIDE OF THEIR WARRANTY.

THEY WERE COMPLETELY UNPREPARED FOR MY SUDDEN AND UNWARRANTED STOP! I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS SOLD A VEHICLE THAT HAS A HARDWARE AND/OR SOFTWARE ERROR IN IT THAT CAN RESULT IN FATAL INJURIES TO THE DRIVER, PASSENGERS AND OCCUPANTS OF SURROUNDING VEHICLES. MY ENGINE MODEL 3MZ-FE IS INVOLVED WITH THE RECALL YET TOYOTA SERVICE DEALERSHIPS AND TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE BOTH SAY IT ISN'T. CURRENTLY MY CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEALERSHIP AND A FEE OF ROUGHLY $800 AWAITS ME. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW MY MAKE, MODEL, MODEL YEAR, ENGINE MODEL, CAN ALL BE RELATED TO A CERTAIN RECALL, AND YET BE TOLD THAT MY CAR DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THAT RECALL. "TAKATA RECALL" WE PURCHASED OUR VEHICLE ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND DO LOVE OUR SIENNA. THE VEHICLE WILL DOWN SHIFT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL KICKS IN WHILE WE ARE IN A CURVE. IT IS SO BAD THAT IT ALMOST COMES TO A STOP AND SKIDS AROUND THE CURVE. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ARE GOING 30 OR 45. IT HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON A DAILY BASIS. WE HAVE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND THEY HAVE HOOKED IT TO THEIR MACHINE AND CAN NOT SEEM TO TELL WHAT IS GOING ON WITH IT. I AM VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE I CARRY MY SMALL CHILDREN AND AM AFRAID THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO CAUSE ME TO WRECK. HE HAS SEEN THIS ON SEVERAL TOYOTAS AND THAT TOYOTA THEMSELVES WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THAT MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THAT PARTICULAR PART ON MANY VEHICLES YET TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I SHOULD BE OUT MONEY FOR A FAULTY PART. MAKE NO MISTAKE I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING ANOTHER TOYOTA FOR THIS REASON. IF TOYOTA WILL NOT MAKE THE EFFORT TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHY WOULD I PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE MADE BY THEM, IT IS BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. IF THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT I HAD CAUSED MYSELF I COULD UNDERSTAND. JUST THIS PAST SUMMER WE REPLACED THE AIR CONDITIONER, I DID NOT WANT TOYOTA TO FIX THAT BECAUSE IT IS NORMAL VEHICLE MAINTENANCE. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO DEAL WITH AND FIX BECAUSE THEIR VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE!!!!
EXTREMELY HARD STEERING HAS BEEN FREQUENTLY A PROBLEM (ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD SQUEAL) DURING THE FIRST MINUTE AFTER START UP, PARTICULARLY IN THE COLD. NOW I HAVE NOTICED A SUDDEN STEERING DIFFICULTY ON A TURN WHILE DRIVING LONG AFTER START UP.
