AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO TWO OTHER VEHICLES. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHEN IT CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE BACK, NECK, SHOULDER, CHEST, KNEES, AND HIPS. THE PASSENGER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE SHOULDER AND STOMACH. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. HUNTINGTON BEACH POLICE WAS AT THE SCENE AND FILED REPORT NUMBER: [XXX]. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: [XXX]. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER'S ENGINEER WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA LE WITH ONLY 26500 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 45 MILES PER HOUR ON A DRY PAVEMENT ON TUESDAY 09/03/2019 AROUND 6:40 PM AND AT A SUDDEN MOMENT THE VSC LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, WARNING SOUND CAME ON, THE CAR APPLIED THE BRAKES ON ITS OWN HARD UNTIL IT FULLY STOPPED, AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF BY ITSELF, WHICH ALMOST GOT ME INTO AN ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DEALER TO GET THE CAR DIAGNOSED FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE, THEY TRANSFERRED ME TO HUDSON TOYOTA AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT DESPITE THAT I HAD MY CAR TO THE DEALER RECENTLY FOR TWO RECALLS AND THEY CHECKED THE CAR AND GAVE ME A REPORT THAT EVERYTHING IN THE CAR WAS GOOD. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND I FOUND A LOT OF TOYOTA SIENNA OWNERS FROM THIS MODEL COMPLAINING ABOUT IT AND YOUTUBE VIDEOS DOCUMENTING IT, THIS LINK SHOWS A TOYOTA SIENNA OWNER DOCUMENTING ON VIDEO THE SAME PROBLEM (HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/SY9A8SHJ0XG) WHICH HAPPENED WITH HIM 20 TIMES IN THE COURSE OF 90 MINUETS AND THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HIS CAR. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE FIXED UNDER A RECALL BY TOYOTA BECAUSE THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKE ON ITS OWN RANDOMLY ON THE HIGHWAY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF OLYMPIA (6969 TYEE DR SW, TUMWATER, WA 98512 (360), 539-3939) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1907270452. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,669.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT WAS TOO LONG AND WOULD NOT TIGHTEN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT WAS UNABLE TO FOLD BACK INTO THE SEAT OR REVERT BACK TO REGULAR LENGTH. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE SPUN AROUND AT LEAST FOUR TIMES TO THE LEFT AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE TWICE WHILE SPINNING. THE CONTACT QUICKLY POWERED OFF THE ENGINE TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM SPINNING. THE CONTACT WAITED ONE HOUR BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS IN SHOCK AND WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED FOOT, RIGHT HIP, AND BACK INJURIES. THE FRONT PASSENGER ALSO SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES. BOTH OCCUPANTS REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
THE BRAKES SUDDENLY ACTIVATE WITH THE VSC TRAC LIGHTS AND ALARM GOING OFF, ON THE SLIGHTEST TURNS AND WHILE GOING DOWNHILL. I HATE HAVING MY WIFE AND KIDS DRIVE THIS VAN LIKE THIS.
THE TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED, THE RIGHT SIDE PASSENGER SIDE BROKE, THE "BRAKE" LIGHTS ARE ON ALL THE TIME.
Swollen lug nuts. Won’t fit any wrench. Affects ability to remove a tire in case of needing to repair a flat tire.
HI I HAVE TOYOTA SIENNA 2006.I CHECKED FOR RECALLS AND FOUND 2 UNREPAIRED.WHAT SHOULD I DO.ANOTHER THING, WHEN MY CAR GOES OVER 70 MILES IT BECOMES SHAKING. THANK YOU
WHILE DRIVING ON ROUTE 1, WE HEARD A "WHOOSH" SOUND. THE SUNROOF GLASS SPONTANEOUSLY FLEW OUT OF THE SUNROOF, AND THE INTERIOR SLIDE COVER POPPED UP THROUGH THE SUNROOF. WE DON'T KNOW WHERE THE GLASS WENT, AND DIDN'T HEAR A SHATTERING SOUND, SO WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT IT LANDED IN THE GRASS SOMEWHERE AND NOT IN THE ROADWAY, CAUSING INJURY TO ANYONE.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, VSC LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT. ALL 3 LIGHTS CAME ON AT SAME TIME. THEY SAY IT'S THE GAS CAP, IT'S NOT THE GAS CAP, THEY SAY TO RESET IT, THAT DOESN'T WORK. I WAS DRIVING HOME, NOTHING HAPPENED, THE LIGHTS JUST CAME ON. NO WARNING SOUND, NOTHING TO INDICATE THERE WAS A PROBLEM, MY CAR SEEMS TO DRIVE JUST FINE, BUT THE LIGHTS WON'T GO OFF, AND I HAVE 3 KIDS THAT I TAKE AND PICK UP FROM SCHOOL
AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON
THE AIRBAGS WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY TURNS ON AND FLASHES. YOU NOTICE IT SECONDS AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED. IF I WIGGLE THE WIRES UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT, IT SOMETIMES GOES AWAY. THEN IT SHOWS UP AGAIN...AND AGAIN.
THE VAN HAS SEVERAL TIMES, WITHOUT WARNING, APPLIED THE BRAKES WHILE A LIGHT COMES ON THE DASHBOARD AND A BEEPING SOUND IS HEARD. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED MY WIFE WAS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AND IT CAUSED A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THIS TO BE SOME SORT OF TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONING. IT SEEMS TO HAVE HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE, AND MANY PEOPLE COMPLAIN IT CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAME ON WHILE NORMAL DRIVING OR IN MY WIFE'S CASE WHILE ACCELERATING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC.
THE TRACTION CONTROL IS MALFUNCTIONING AND TURNING ON DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THERE IS A LOUD BEEPING AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT TURNS ON WHILE TURNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET TO 65 MPH ON FREEWAYS. WHAT IS REALLY ALARMING IS THAT SOMETIMES WHILE THE LIGHT TURNS ON THE SYSTEM APPLIES THE BRAKES TO ONE WHEEL PULLING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY TO ONE SIDE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AT HIGH SPEEDS. I HAVE REPLACED MANY PARTS- SHOCKS, CONTROL ARMS, JOINTS AND TAKEN IT TO MULTIPLE MECHANICS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHEN SEARCHING THE WEB BUT NOBODY IS ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT SUDDENLY TURNED ON ONE DAY AND HAS REMAINED ON TO THIS DATE (8/7/2019) EVERY TIME WHEN WE TURN ON ENGINE AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL CAR OWNER, AND THE ODOMETER IS 78919 MILES. WE CALLED LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND WERE INFORMED THAT OUR 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN IS NOT ON AIRBAG RECALL LIST.
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA THAT I BOUGHT IN 2009. I HAD TO TURN OFF MY ELECTRICAL RIGHT BACK SIDE PASSENGER DOOR BECAUSE IT SLIDES OPEN BY ITSELF WHILE I'M DRIVING. THE DOOR OPENS AND CLOSES WITH THE PUSH BUTTON BUT DUE TO THE DOOR FLYING OPEN WHILE I'M DRIVING I HAD TO TURN THE AUTOMATIC OPTION OFF. I TAKE MY VEHICLE IN FOR ALL RECALLS BUT I'M NOT SURE IF THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF THEM AND IF IT HASN'T IT SHOULD BE. IT JUST HAPPENS OUT OF NOWHERE AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN YOU JUST SEE THE DOOR FLY OPEN IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE KIDS AND A DOG THAT RIDES IN MY VAN ON A DAILY BASIS SO THIS PROBLEM NEEDS ATTENTION.
PASSENGER-SIDE POWERED SLIDING DOOR SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED; NO PRECEDING ODD NOISES OR OTHER TROUBLE SIGNS. THE DOOR WILL SLIDE BACKWARDS TO OPEN POSITION AND LATCH THERE AS IT SHOULD, BUT UPON BUTTON-PUSH TO CLOSE, IT ROLLS FORWARD ABOUT TWO-THIRDS OF THE WAY, THEN STOPS AND RETRACTS. SAME PROBLEM NO MATTER WHICH OF THE SEVERAL DOOR SWITCHES IS USED. WORSE: THE DOOR CANNOT BE MANUALLY PUSHED BEYOND THE MALFUNCTION POINT TO SHUT IT. I FEAR DAMAGE TO MECHANISM AND DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT BACKLASH IF I FORCE IT. OBVIOUSLY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION. LUCKILY DID NOT OCCUR ON A LONG FAMILY TRIP! CAR MUST BE GARAGED OUT OF WEATHER UNTIL PROBLEM RESOLVED. HERE IS THE ISSUE I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO CONSIDER: A MOTORIZED DOOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROVIDED WITH A BYPASS PROCEDURE WHICH WOULD ALLOW DAMAGE-FREE MANUAL CLOSING FOR ANY AND ALL MECHANISM FAILURES. TOYOTA'S FAILURE TO PROVIDE THIS ALTERNATIVE IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO ITS CUSTOMERS.
MY 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA SUDDENLY HAS A BLINKING AIRBAG LIGHT 10 DAYS AGO
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EAST COAST TOYOTA (181 BROAD STREET, CARLSTADT, NJ 07072) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 202,000.
TRACTION CONTROL HAS RANDOMLY ENGAGED 4 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK, AT SPEEDS AS LOW 35 MPH AND ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. PAVEMENT WAS DRY AND WE WERE DRIVING STRAIGHT, NOT TURNING. BRAKING IS APPLIED CAUSING TEMPORARY LOSS OF SPEED AND PULLING STEERING TO ONE SIDE FOR ABOUT 1-2 SECONDS. CONTROL RETURNS AND TRAC CONTROL LIGHT CONTINUES TO BLINK. DOES NOT RESULT IN AN ERROR CODE.
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE REGARDLESS OF SPEED OR DRIVING CONDITION THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM RANDOMLY ACTIVATES (IT IS ALWAYS WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE, BUT ROAD CONDITIONS ARE DRY, SPEED COULD BE 70 OR COULD BE 20, THERE IS NO LOSS OF CONTROL BY ME AS A DRIVER). THIS CAUSES THE CAR TO ABRUPTLY BRAKE. THE COMPUTER SYSTEM SHOWS NO ISSUES WHEN THE DEALER LOOKS AT IT. WHEN I DEACTIVATE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM USING THE BUTTON THE VAN WILL STILL BEEP LOUDLY INDICATING A LOSS OF TRACTION CONTROL. IT WILL ALSO KICK OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT DOES NOT ACTIVATE THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING FEATURE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING DAILY FOR 2 MONTHS WITH MULTIPLE VISITS TO REPAIR SHOPS.
I FILED A COMPLAINT 10/18/2018; HOWEVER, THE COMPLAINT WAS FOR 2 OF THE 4 TIRES. TODAY'S COMPLAINT IS FOR THE REMAINING 2 TIRES WHICH HAD MANUFACTURER DEFECT PER THE SHOP. PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE COOPERTIRE,CS5 NOT CS4.T THERE'S NOT AN OPTION FOR "CS5 "T SO LIKE OTHERS I'M USING THE CLOSET WHICH IS "CS4 T". MY VAN STARTING SHAKING (AT THIS POINT I HAVE TWO NEW TIRES ON 4/18 (COOPER CS5 -T) AND THE OTHER TWO TIRES ARE ALSO COOPER CS5 -T, BUT PURCHASED 1/2016, 80K MILE "WEAR OUT WARRANTY" I'VE PUT 7K ON THE TWO "NEW" TIRES & THE OTHER TWO HAVE 48K (22K LEFT). THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES, PEOPLE SHAKE, I STOP DRIVING IT ANYWHERE THAT WILL REQUIRE ME GOING OVER 35MPH.SHAKING ISN'T EVEN THE WORD FOR IT WHEN OVER 35 MPH. I CAN'T GET ANYWHERE ON MY 35MPH FOR 1.5 WEEKS.. NOT FUN WITH 4 KIDS TO RUN TO SPORTS SCHOOL & EVENTS. I GET THE VAN IN FINALLY ON THURSDAY, 10/18/2018. I GET A CALL FROM THE SHOP TO TELL ME THERE IS A "MANUFACTURER DEFECT" ON THE TWO OLDER COOPER TIRES. THAT DEFECT WHICH IS TYPED ON MY RCPT IS "FOUND THAT THE TIRE HAD A PLY SEPARATION CAUSING THE VIBRATION." SO I LOOKED IT UP, NOT KNOWING EXACTLY THE JARGON USED "TIRE SEPARATION IS ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS THINGS THAT CAN HAPPEN TO A TIRE, AND CAN PUT THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE AND EVERYONE ELSE AROUND AT RISK. A SEPARATION CAN LEAD TO A TIRE BLOWOUT, WHICH IN TURN CAN LEAD TO ONE OF THESE EVEN MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. HEAD-ON COLLISIONS. ROLLOVER ACCIDENTS. ROAD RUN-OFFS. SIDE IMPACT INCIDENTS. AND, MORE. OFTEN TIMES, THE INJURIES SUSTAINED FROM THESE ACCIDENTS ARE SEVERE, IF NOT DEADLY." I'M A METICULOUS RECORD KEEPER AND DO REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON MY VEHICLES. THE TIRES WENT ON 1/2016. ROTATED 1/11/2017, 5/17/2017, 3/2018, 4/2018,10/2018. OUT COME SAME AS LAST. 2 NEW TIRES I PAY FOR, NO OPTIONS, SO SAME BRAND ON AGAIN. IN 2016 I SPENT $675 ON 4 NEW TIRES, THEY SHOULD HAVE 22K LEFT OF WEAR. INSTEAD IN TOTAL I'VE PAID $106 TO HAVE THE BRAND TIRE ON IT.TOYOTA SAID ALL 4 TIRES WERE A PROBLEM 2/2018, DENIED
I CALLED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP 8/6/18 TO REQUEST RECALL 17V657 AND 14V273 TO BE REPAIRED. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD PUT MY NAME ON A LIST FOR SOMEONE TO CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS WERE IN. I CALLED BACK TODAY 10/11/18 TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD BOTH PARTS WERE IN. HE TRANSFERRED ME BACK TO SERVICE WHO SAID THE PARTS AT THE DEALERSHIP 'WERE NOT FOR ME' AND I JUST NEED TO WAIT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AS I HAVE WAITED OVER 2 MONTHS FOR MY AUTO TO BE REPAIRED. I CALLED THE SAFETY HOTLINE ON MY LETTER 888-327-4236 AND THE CALL WAS DISCONNECTED. PLEASE HELP ME TO GET MY CAR FIXED.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT BEEN FLASHING ALL THE TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING AROUND A CURVE AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SEIZED AND THE TRACTION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY FURTHER ISSUE. THE CONTACT CALLED GLOCKNER TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 2867 US-23, PORTSMOUTH, OH 45662, (740) 354-3255) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
ON THE SLIDING DOOR WITH THE AUTOMATIC OPEN, THE CABLE SNAPPED THAT CONTROLLED TO DOOR TO OPEN AND CLOSE. NOW THAT DOOR IS UNABLE TO BE OPENED. EVEN WITH THE POWER ASSIST BUTTON TURNED OFF, THE DOOR IN NOT ABLE TO BE USED. DURING AN ACCIDENT, I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THAT DOOR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I WAS SHOCKED THAT THIS ISN'T A RECALLED PART AS I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUES.
ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARNING LIGHT AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHT ARE ON SIMULTANEOUSLY, AT ALL TIMES ONCE CAR IS STARTED. ISSUE WAS DIAGNOSED AS FAULTY ABS CONTROL MODULE REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, AND TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, HAS NEVER EVEN REQUIRED THAT THE ABS BE UTILIZED.
THE LEFT SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE, I HAVE SENT THIS ISSUE THREE TIMES WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARANTEE, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN 8/8/18 SAME PROBLEM THE SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE.. THE VAN WAS STATIONARY AND AFTER OPENING THE LEFT SLIDING, IT WOULD NOT CLOSE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 17V657000 (POWER TRAIN) AND 14V273000 (TIRES). THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LIA TOYOTA OF COLONIE (2116 CENTRAL AVE, SCHENECTADY, NY 12304, 518-631-5254) AND WAS REPAIRED PER THE RECALL, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 176,000.
SYSTEM IS PRESENTING AIRBAG WARNING CODES B0111 & B0116. THESE CODES MEAN THAT WE HAVE TO SPEND $3000-4000 TO REPLACE THE AIRBAGS AND WIRING HARNESSES FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. THIS IS COMPLETELY OUT IF THE BLUE BECAUSE A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE IS OTHERWISE IN GREAT SHAPE AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT.
I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY GOING STRAIGHT ON DRY PAVEMENT AND SUDDENLY A BUZZER SOUNDED, THE VSC LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKES WERE TAKEN OVER BY THE VSC SYSTEM AND THE CAR STARTED WEAVING OUT OF CONTROL. I COULD NOT STEER OR BREAK THE CAR. THE SITUATION IS UNPREDICTABLE. IT EASILY HAPPENED ON CURVY OR BEND ROAD AND HAS HAPPENED 3-4 TIMES IN THIS YEAR. IT IS SCARY.

THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION . DRIVING UP THE MOUNTAIN . WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSORS WENT ON AND BRAKED AND BEGAN MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL . ALARMS WHERE GOING OFF WHEN NO DANGER OCCURRED . THE NEXT TWO HOURS THE SENSORS WOULD ALARM. DID NOT MATTER HOW SLOW OR FAST WE DROVE IT WOULD BRAKE GOING UP AND DOWN THE HILL. TOOK MY SIENNA 2006 FOR A CHECK UP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID IS LEAKING, REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW RACK AND PINION UNIT. TOYOTA RECALLED 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA IN 2011 FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER BUT THEY ARE UNWILLING TO FIX MY TOYOTA. THEY CLAIM THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF THE 2011 RECALL. INSTEAD, TOYOTA DID OFFER A $ 1000 TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF A CERTIFIED TOYOTA VEHICLE. I FELT I SHOULD REPORT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND OTHER DRIVERS MIGHT BE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR BACK IN 2012, I NOTICED THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS NEVER QUITE RIGHT EVEN THOUGH DID THE ALIGNMENT TWO TIMES. I NOW THINK I KNOW WHY: THE RACK AND PINION ALREADY HAD AN ISSUE BACK THEN.
TODAY I NOTICED A SMELL BUT THOUGHT IT WAS FROM THE ROAD CONSTRUCTION. LATER I NOTICED SOME LIQUID ON THE GROUND UNDER MY CAR. LATER I STARTED TO DRIVE AND HEARD A TERRIBLE NOISE. I CHECKED ALL MY GAUGES AND NOTHING LOOKED WRONG BUT THE NOISE FREAKED ME OUT. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND WENT HOME. FORTUNATELY I HAD ONLY GONE A LITTLE WAYS DOWN THE STREET. WHILE I DRIVE MY OIL LIGHT FLICKERED ON THEN OFF. ONCE HOME MY HUSBAND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD. WHEN HE TURNED THE CAR ON, OIL WAS SQUIRTING FROM A HOSE EVERYWHERE. HE CHECKED UNDER THE CAR AND OIL WAS ALL OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. THERE WAS NO MORE OIL WHEN HE CHECKED THE OIL STICK.

RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. PRETTY SCARY TO THINK I COULD BE HEADED DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH MY FIVE CHILDREN AND POTENTIALLY LOSE CONTROL OF STEERING CAPABILITY BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY PART.
I WAS DRIVING MY VAN IN KINGS MTN. HWY 216, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, THE BACK OF THE CAR STARTED FISHTAILING. I WAS NEAR A GARAGE, SO I STOPPED AND THEY TOLD ME MY REAR AXLE HAD COME LOOSE AND I NEEDED TO TAKE IT TO A MOBILITY DEALER. I CALLED ILLDERTON IN CHARLOTTE AND HAD IT TOWED THERE. ULTIMATELY THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A BODY SHOP. I CALLED BRAUN AND THE WOMAN SAID, "THERE IS NO WARRANTY, THE CAR IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD, THEY DON'T LAST FOREVER". I PAID OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND THEN FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL. IT STATES: ON CERTAIN HANDICAPPED MOBILITY CONVERSION RAMPVANS MANUFACTURED BY INDEPENDENT MOBILITY SYSTEMS AND BUILT ON TOYOTA MINIVAN CHASSIS, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR AXLE BEAM MOUNT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ADEQUATELY WELDED TO THE CHASSIS. THIS MAY RESULT IN A SQUEAKING NOISE, A ROUGH RIDE, OR DEGRADATION IN VEHICLE CONTROL. CONSEQUENCE: THE MOUNT MAY BECOME PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM THE CHASSIS. PASSENGERS, PEDESTRIANS, OR OTHER MOTORISTS MAY BE INJURED OR KILLED. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. SEE PHOTO
WHILE DRIVING THE STABILITY WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, STARTS BEEPING LOUDLY AND MY BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE FREEWAY, ON FREEWAY ENTRANCES WITH A SLIGHT TURN AND EVEN WHILE JUST DRIVING STRAIGHT. EACH TIME, THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND THE ROADS ARE DRY. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER I AM DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED ENTERING A SLIGHT TURN ON THE HIGHWAY ANYWHERE FROM 20 TO 40 MPH AND HAS RECENTLY HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH ON A DRY HIGHWAY JUST DRIVING STRAIGHT. THE CAR HAS ALSO BEGAN BEEPING AND FLASHING THE STABILITY LIGHT WITHOUT LOCKING UP THE STEERING AND BRAKES. I HAVE ALMOST CAUSE A FEW ACCIDENTS WITH CARS ALMOST REAR ENDING MY VAN AND ME ALMOST SIDESWIPING OTHER CARS WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE CAR. THIS IS FRIGHTENING! I HAVE HAD MY STRUTS REPLACED, RIGHT DRIVE SHAFT, BRAKES, TIRES, ALIGNMENT. THE REPAIR SHOPS SAY THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THIS ISSUE WHEN THEY DRIVE IT. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A RECALL ON ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS WHICH IS SHOCKING. I HAVE A SIENNA VAN SO I CAN CARRY MULTIPLE PEOPLE WITH ME. I HAVE MY INFANT GRANDCHILD WITH ME IN THIS VAN EACH DAY AS WELL AS MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MAITA TOYOTA TOMORROW MORNING (1/25/18), WE'LL SEE WHAT THEY SAY, BUT HONESTLY, I FEEL TOYOTA NEEDS TO STAND BY THEIR CARS AND FIX THIS ISSUE AT NO CHARGE. RACK AND PINION FAILURE. DEAR SIR/MADAM: I BROUGHT MY 2006 SIENNA (PURCHASED NEW) TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO WHAT I SUSPECTED WAS A BAD WHEEL BEARING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THE BEARING PROBLEM, BUT ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE SEAL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE RACK AND PINION HAD GONE BAD AND HAD LEADED INTO THE BOOT ON THAT SIDE, AND SINCE THERE WAS NO WAY TO JUST REPLACE THE SEAL, I NEEDED A NEW RACK AND PINION SYSTEM INSTALLED, PLUS A FOUR-WHEEL ALIGNMENT AFTER THE INSTALLATION TOTALING $1187. I MENTIONED TO THE TECHNICIAN THAT I RECENTLY HAD NOTICED THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR LOWER THAN USUAL AND RECENTLY NOTICED FLUID ON MY DRIVEWAY, SO THAT SEEMS TO BE THE CAUSE OF THOSE OBSERVATIONS. THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM I BROUGHT MY SIENNA IN FOR OF THE BEARING NOISE SEEMED TO BE A FORTUNATE SITUATION, AS IT RESULTED IN THE REVELATION OF THE STEER SYSTEM PROBLEM BEFORE IT LED TO A MORE SERIOUS SITUATION. AFTER GETTING THE REPAIRS DONE, I RESEARCHED THE RACK AND PINION ISSUE AND REALIZED THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT WITH THE PREDICTABLE AND REGULAR OCCURRENCES OF THIS FAILURE, ADDRESSING THIS THROUGH A RECALL WOULD BE A REASONABLE ACTION TOYOTA CAN MAKE IN ITS EFFORTS TO CONTINUE MITIGATING POTENTIAL CATASTROPHIC SAFETY EVENTS FOR CUSTOMERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
