THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (DCH FREEHOLD TOYOTA IN FREEHOLD, NJ) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CORD FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED A DISCOUNT FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TAKATA RECALL...TOYOTA SAID THAT IT WAS DANGEROUS AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND TO NOT USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE FAMILY VEHICLE AND NOT USING THE SEATS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I HAS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR AND STILL NO REMEDY IS AVAILABLE.
WE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE ON THE POWER SLIDING DOORS. WE TURNED OFF THE POWER TO THE DOORS AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL LETTER. JUST THIS WEEKEND THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE AND ENGAGE. THE DOOR STAYS OPEN AND WILL NOT LATCH. WE TOOK THE RECALL LETTER WITH TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY CLAIM THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL. WE DID NOT HAVE IT REPAIRED BUT TOOK IT BACK HOME. WE CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER ON THE RECALL LETTER AND DESCRIBED THE SITUATION. WHILE ADMITTING THE RECALL IS A DOOR MOTOR ISSUE, THEY DENIED THAT OUR PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE RECALL. EVERYTHING THEY DESCRIBED ABOUT THE REASON FOR THE RECALL IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR DOOR. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHERE WE TOOK THE VAN TODAY GAVE US AN ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR OF $1556.31 + TAX.

TAKATA RECALL- I RECEIVED NOTICE THAT MY VAN'S PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS DEFECTIVE AND TO NOT ALLOW ANY PASSENGER IN MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I AM IN A PRIORITY GEOGRAPHICAL AREA DUE TO HEAT AND HUMIDITY. I RECEIVED THIS NOTICE ALMOST A YEAR AGO. I BOUGHT A MINIVAN BECAUSE I USE IT TO TRAVEL WITH THE FAMILY. NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE VAN FOR THIS PURPOSE, AND KNOWING IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR THIS AMOUNT OF TIME SEEMS INORDINATE, INCONVENIENT TO SAY THE LEAST, AND RISKY! WHEN WILL TOYOTA HAVE A FIX?!

TAKATA RECALL - I RECEIVED MY RECALL NOTICE IN JUNE/JULY 2016. IT'S NOW BEEN 8 MONTHS WITH STILL NO ETA ON WHEN MY VEHICLE CAN BE FIXED. I'M MAKING $500/MO PAYMENTS ON A VAN THAT I SPECIFICALLY BOUGHT FOR THE SEATING AND SPACE AMONG OTHER CAPABILITIES. A COUPLE OF MONTHS OF HAVING THE KIDS/GUESTS SIT IN THE BACK IS ONE THING BUT 8 MONTHS IS QUITE A LONG TIME AND HEARING RUMORS OF ANOTHER YEAR OF THIS IS NOT GOOD. NOW I'VE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS AND THE WORKAROUND FOR THAT IS TO MAKE EVERYTHING MANUAL UNTIL I GET THE OKAY TO HAVE IT FIXED, AGAIN, WITH NO ETA. NOW, I'M DRIVING AROUND AND CAN'T PUT ANYONE IN THE FRONT SEAT AND HAVE TO HAVE EVERYTHING MANUAL. I BOUGHT THE XLE MODEL FOR THE 8 SEATS BECAUSE I NEED THEM AND THE AUTOMATIC DOORS FOR THE CONVENIENCE AND THIS IS REFLECTED IN THE PRICE I PAID FOR THE CAR AND THE PAYMENTS I'M MAKING ON IT. CONSUMERS NEED SOME TYPE OF ETA OR SOME TYPE OF COMPENSATION FROM EITHER TOYOTA AND/OR TAKATA. THIS RECALL/ISSUE IS OF NO FAULT OF THE CONSUMER YET THEY ARE THE ONES BEING INCONVENIENCED.
RECALL ON A SLIDING DOOR NOT WORKING/CLOSING ON A 2011 SIENNA, HAD TO PAY TO HAVE DOOR REPAIRED TO CLOSE. THE DOOR WORKING IS PART OF A COMPANY RECALL WITH THE SLIDING DOORS NOT WORKING ON 2011 SIENNAS. SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT SHUT ON THE VAN. MY DAUGHTER HAD TO HOLD THE DOOR SO THAT MY FAMILY COULD GET HOME. IT WAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE DOOR, SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT. WE SENT THE INVOICE WITH THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL, WE HAVE WAITED FOR ALMOST 9 WEEKS, AND MANY CALLS TO THE COMPANY, AND FOR THE MOST PART MYSELF AND MY WIFE HAD TO DO THE LEG WORK TO GET THIS GOING BY THE COMPANY. THIS HAS BEEN A FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE, FOR ONE THE SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY FAMILY, CONSIDERING THE RECALL WAS OVER 1 YEAR ON THIS VAN IS PRETTY RIDICULOUS. AND GETTING INFORMATION ABOUT MY CASE HAS BEEN FRUSTRATING. IT SEEMS LIKE TOYOTA DID NOT WANT TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUES WITH THE REIMBURSEMENT, ISSUES WITH COMMUNICATIONS WITH THIS, IT HAS BEEN A FRUSTRATING SITUATION. ESPECIALLY WE HAVE TO KEEP THIS VAN, AND THE COMPANY IS NOT TAKING RESPONIABLITY TO RESOLVE THE REFUND OF THE VAN DOOR NOT OPENING. THIS IS NOT RIGHT BY THIS COMPANY DOING THIS.
FUEL DOOR HINGE BROKE BECAUSE THE FUEL DOOR PIN HAS SO MUCH TENSION THAT IT BROKE THE HINGE. THIS CAUSED A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE IF IT IS NOT CLOSED ALL THEY WAY OR PUSHED CLOSED ENOUGH FOR THE SENSOR TO ALLOW THE SLIDING DOOR TO OPEN. THIS EVENT WAS REPORTED PAST THE 36 MONTH WARRANTY, (AT 40 MONTHS, BUT LESS THAN THE MILEAGE WARRANTY), BUT HAD BEGUN BEFORE THE WARRANTY HAD ENDED. CURRENT OWNERS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT IF THERE ARE INSTANCES BEGINNING OF THE DOOR NOT BEING ABLE TO BE OPENED, SHOULD CHECK THE HINGE AND PIN TENSION AND HAVE IT FIXED WHILE IT COULD BE UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD BE AN ITEM COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE PARKED AND EXITING THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY GETTING AN ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THERE ARE OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS ISSUE ON DIFFERENT SIENNA AND TOYOTA FORUMS.

TAKATA RECALL - NO DEALER IN MY AREA WAS WILLING TO PROVIDE ME A LOANER VEHICLE AND THE $35 PER DAY FROM TOYOTA IS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR ME TO RENT ANOTHER 7 PASSENGER MINIVAN OR SIMILAR. UNDER MY STATE'S LEMON LAWS IN NC A COMPANY WHICH IS UNABLE TO FIX THE KNOWN ISSUE WITH IN 15 DAYS IS IN VIOLATION OF OUR LEMON LAWS. MY SON HAS SEVERE HEMOPHILIA ANY FLYING DEBRIS INCREASES HIS RISK TO A CATASTROPHIC LEVEL AND THE SOLUTIONS OFFERED BY TOYOTA ARE NOT REFLECTIVE OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY FOR A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. IF I AM NOT CONTACTED WITHIN 48 HOURS OR REASONABLE TIME I WILL PURSUE LEGAL AND CLASS ACTION RECOURSE.

TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER CONFIRMS THAT IT IS EXCESSIVE, BUT ONLY RESOLUTION WOULD BE TO REPLACE CABLE WITH NO GUARANTEE IT WOULDN'T HAVE EXCESSIVE FORCE ALSO. ONLY OTHER RESOLUTION WOULD BE TO HAVE SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY TOYOTA.
NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE NOTHING TO REMEDY THE RECALL FOR THE AIR BAG OR THE SLIDING DOOR. WHY???

WE GOT A LETTER FROM TOYOTA SAYING ADVISE IS NOT TO HAVE ANYONE SIT IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT DUE TO DANGEROUS AIR BAG BUT NO TIME MENTIONED...ONLY "WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE" THEY'LL CONTACT US. TAKATA RECALL WE RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE TAKATA PASSENGER AIRBAG IN JUNE 2016. WE HAVE FOLLOWED THE RECALL NOTICE AND HAVE NOT HAD A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. IT HAS BEEN OVER 6 MONTHS AND THERE HAS BEEN NO REPAIR FOR THIS RECALL. JUST YESTERDAY JANUARY 23, 2017 WE RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE FOR THE POWER DOORS AND IT INSTRUCTED TO SHUT THE POWER OFF THE POWER DOORS. AFTER RECEIVING THIS NOTICE THE VAN ITSELF IS ALMOST RENDERED USELESS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TRANSPORTING DRIVER. THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL FOR TOYOTA TO NOT QUICKLY RESOLVE THESE MATTERS AND PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS REGARDING THEIR MISTAKES. I RECEIVED TWO LETTERS IN THE MAIL FOR SAFETY RECALLS ON MY TAKATA FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR (ZONE A) AS WELL AS EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER CABLE. I TRIED CONTACTING TWO DEALERSHIPS NEAR ME, AND THEY DID NOT TRY TO MEET BASIC SAFETY STANDARDS. THE DEALERSHIPS TOLD ME THAT I MUST WAIT SEVERAL MONTHS TO SOLVE MY ISSUES OR THAT THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK SOON (AND OF COURSE, THEY DIDN'T). THE NEAREST ONE TO ME, BREDEMANN DEALERSHIP @ (847) 655-1435, TOLD ME THAT I MUST WAIT THREE MONTHS FOR SUPPLIES TO COME IN. MY LIFE AND SAFETY ARE ON THE LINE, AND I DO NOT WANT TO PUT MYSELF IN DANGER BECAUSE OF A DEALERSHIP'S LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MEETING BASIC SAFETY STANDARDS.

I WAS FIRST NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE IN MAY OF 2016 AND AM STILL WAITING FOR A REMEDY SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. EVERY DAY TOYOTA DELAYS FIXING THIS ISSUE PUTS MY FAMILY AT RISK OF A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. PERHAPS FORCING TOYOTA TO PROVIDE RENTAL CARS TO THOSE AFFECTED WOULD HELP TO EXPEDITE THEIR ROLE IN THIS RECALL. POTENTIALLY HAVING TO WAIT TILL 2019 FOR A FIX IS ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT, DESPITE THE REPAIR CALLING FOR THE SAME PART AS A PREVIOUS RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER UNKNOWN), THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE MODEL OF THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFERENT AND THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
WAS ASKED TO STOP USING MY PASSENGER FRONT SEAT MANY MONTHS AGO AND STILL THERE IS NO REPAIR FOR THIS PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT THE POWER SLIDING DOORS SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH THE POWER ASSIST, THEY ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN AND CLOSE MANUALLY. THIS VEHICLE IS NOW VIRTUALLY USELESS. MY WIFE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THE POWER DOORS HAVE TO BE OPERATED MANUALLY AND NO ONE CAN SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. TOYOTA SHOULD SUPPLY US WITH A VEHICLE THAT ACTUALLY FUNCTIONS UNTIL THIS REPAIR IS DONE.

DIAGNOSED AS A BEARING FAILURE IN A COUPLER FROM THE LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPT. $2500.00 FIX. RESEARCH SHOWS THE RAV 4 TO HAVE HAD SAME FAULTY PROBLEM, BUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR RAV 4 OWNERS. WHY NOT A RECALL FOR SIENNAS? ONE WOULD THINK TOYOTA WOULD ASSUME SIENNAS WERE BOUGHT FOR LARGE FAMILIES, PACKED WITH CHILDREN, ETC, AND WOULD PLACE A RECALL FIRST AND FOREMOST. MANY PEOPLE HAVE POSTED ONLINE ON FORUMS AND YOUTUBE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN CORRESPONDING TO MULTIPLE GROUPS IN ORDER TO BRING MORE ATTENTION AND ACTION TO PROMOTE THIS FAULT AND GET PROPER COMPENSATION TO GET THIS FIXED. WHEN CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW WE WHERE TOLD THAT A SAFETY FEATURE ON THIS VEHICLE WAS THAT THE REAR SLIDING DOORS WOULD NOT CLOSE WHILE THERE WAS SOMETHING IN ITS PATH STOPPING IT FROM CLOSING COMPLETELY. THIS MORNING WHILE TRYING TO REACH BEHIND HIM AND ATTACH HIS SEATBELT MY 6YO SON HAND GOT INTO THE PATH OF THE DOOR AND HIS HAND BECAME STUCK IN ITS PATH INSTEAD OF THE DOOR OPENING BACK TO THE OPEN POSITION IT SET THERE AND CONTINUED TO CYCLE TO THE CLOSE POSITION.
THE SLIDING DOORS MAKE POPPING NOISES AND GET STUCK TRYING TO OPEN OR CLOSE. YOU HAVE TO FORCEFULLY TRY AND MOVE THE DOOR THE WAY IT WAS ATTEMPTING TO MOVE. THE DEALERSHIP IS NO HELP. IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTEE. THIS HAS HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE WE OWNED THE VAN.
