TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT APPLIED GREASE TO THE UNIVERSAL JOINT IN THE STEERING SHAFT BUT THE REMEDY FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
LETTER SUBMITTING A COPY OF LETTER HE SENT TO THE TOYOTA CLAIMS DEPARTMENT FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF REPAIR EXPENSES TO THE USED 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA HE RECENTLY PURCHASED; VEHICLE WAS IN CRASH PREVIOUS OWNER IGNORED TWO RECALLS ON VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, TO STOP A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A VEHICLE, THAT WAS ALREADY SITTING AT THE LIGHT.
THE FRAME ON MY 2006 DOUBLE CAB TACOMA IS SEVERELY RUSTED. HUGE METAL FLAKES WITH QUARTER SIZE THICKNESS IS FLAKING OFF THE MAIN FRAME & ALL CROSS MEMBERS. THERE IS A HOLE THAT HAS DEVELOPED UNDER THE TRUCK BED IN THE FRAME. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY LOOKED AT THE FRAME AND SAID IT WAS VERY RUSTY BUT RIGHT NOW THERE WAS NOT ANYTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP BECAUSE TOYOTA HAD NOT ISSUED ANY OFFICIAL "RECALL" OR "TSB" FOR FRAME REPAIR FOR 2006 MODELS. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER LINE. THE LADY TOOK ALL MY INFORMATION AND CONCERN, BUT INFORMED ME THAT AT THIS TIME I WAS ON MY OWN TO HAVE ANY FRAME WORK REPAIRED. I FEEL THE TOYOTA CORPORATION SHOULD STAND BEHIND THE 2005+ YEARS TACOMA FRAME RUST ISSUES AS THEY HAVE WITH THE 2001-04 MODEL. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE SEVERE FRAME RUST ISSUE DID NOT END WITH THE 2004 MODEL TACOMA. *TR

EMAIL FROM SENATOR RISCH OFFICE ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT REGARDING LACK OF SAFETY RECALL FOR A STICKING ACCELERATOR/ELECTRONIC THROTTLE ISSUE ON 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED TOYOTA WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE ISSUE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE FIRST ADDRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ISSUE IN 2008 WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.
FINALLY DID FLOOR MAT RECALL WORK DONE ON MY 2006 TACOMA. NEW FLOOR MAT IS THIN, FLIMSY, NOTHING LIKE ORIGINAL THICK ALL WEATHER FLOOR MAT. I ALSO WANT TO ADD, THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL DESIGN AW FLOOR MAT FOR TACOMA VEHICLES, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO INTERFERENCE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND THAT THE ONLY REASON I CHANGED THE MATS WAS DUE TO THE MAT RIBS STARTING TO BREAK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IN ADDITION, THE CAMPAIGN CALLED FOR THE FLOOR CARPET TO BE VACUUM CLEANED AND SHAMPOOED, AND NONE OF THIS WAS DONE. THE DEALER SIMPLY SWAPPED-OUT THE FLOOR MATS AND CHARGED-OUT $185 TO "RECALL WORK", I DON'T EVEN THINK THEY DID ANY PEDAL ADJUSTMENT. HERE'S THE REAL PROBLEM: THE NEW, THIN, FLIMSY FLOOR MAT USES THE OLD FLOOR MAT RETAINER HOOKS THAT WERE INTENDED FOR THE THICK ALL WEATHER FLOOR MATS. THESE FLOOR MAT HOOKS HURT MY FEET WHEN DRIVING BAREFOOT, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY CAN, THEY WILL, AND THEY HAVE CAUGHT AND HOOKED-UP THE HEEL OF MY SHOES ON OCCASION. I AM A VERY SAFE DRIVER, DO NOT TAILGATE VEHICLES, AND I TELL YOU NOW, THESE HOOKS HAVE CAUSED ME TO GET INTO EMBARRASSING SITUATIONS AND VERY NEAR ACCIDENTS DUE TO MY SHOE GETTING CAUGHT IN THE HOOKS AND NOT BEING ABLE TO BRAKE PROPERLY AND ON TIME. IF I MODIFY THE HOOKS OR CUT THEM, THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THAT THE NEW MAT WILL SLIDE-UP UNDER THE PEDALS, PREVENTING USE OF THE BRAKES AND NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WILL NOT DO THIS, I WILL NOT ASSUME THIS RESPONSIBILITY. AT THIS PRESENT SITUATION, AT THIS PRESENT DESIGN, THE LIABILITY RESTS WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE AUTHORIZATION FOR THIS RECALL DESIGN MODIFICATION. AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE ORIGINAL DESIGN FOR THIS SPECIFIC YEAR/MAKE/MODEL; HOWEVER, THE RECALL MODIFICATION DID CREATE A PROBLEM WHERE NONE EXISTED, AND MADE THE SITUATION WORSE THAN ORIGINAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE STANDING IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOORWAY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY, ROLLING OVER THE CONTACT'S FOOT. HE WAS ABLE TO JUMP INSIDE AND BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING HOWEVER, AFTER ONE MONTH IN THE DEALER'S POSSESSION THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER, WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE UNTIL THE CONTACT SIGNED A RELEASE FORM SO THEY COULD EXAMINE THE BLACK BOX. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
SEVERE FRAME RUST CAUSED VEHICLE TO FAIL INSPECTION. HAD HOLE REPAIRED BY CERTIFIED WELDER, TO ALLOW IT TO PASS INSPECTION. HE NOTED A NUMBER OF OTHER SPOTS WHICH WILL GO BAD IN NEXT 1-3 YEARS. *TR
FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH. TRUCK WILL NO LONGER PASS PA STATE INSPECTION. HAD WELDING DONE TO REPAIR BUT THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER AREAS ON FRAME WITH SEVERE RUST. WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA BEFORE IT CAUSES A CRASH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 100,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I TOOK MY 2006 TACOMA IN FOR MY YEARLY PENNSYLVANIA INSPECTION ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT TWO SEPARATE PLACES WONT PASS IT BECAUSE THE FRAME IS RUSTED OUT. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND HAS COVERED PREVIOUS YEARS.I CALLED TOYOTA ONLY TO BE TOLD IT WAS MY PROBLEM AND THEY WONT FIX IT SINCE ITS NOT IN THE COVERED YEARS. ALL THEY GAVE ME WAS A REFERENCE # (1212040621) AND THE ADDRESS FOR THEIR LEGAL DEPT SO I COULD REFER A LAWYER TO THERE. WHY WOULD I WANT TO GET A LAWYER WHEN THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM IN PREVIOUS YEARS? ITS THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT, NOT MY FAULT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE ROARED LOUDLY AS THE TIRES BEGAN SQUEALING. AS THE CONTACT TURNED TO SEE IF THERE WAS SOMETHING BEHIND THE VEHICLE, HIS FOOT HAPHAZARDLY SLIPPED OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY ACCELERATED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER OF THE SECOND VEHICLE WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO MONTHS LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
THE FRAME OF MY 2006 TACOMA IS RUSTING SEVERELY, ESPECIALLY THE WELDS THAT HOLD THE FRAME TOGETHER. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH 'SURFACE RUST' AND IT'S 'NORMAL', EVEN THOUGH IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE PROBLEM IS A GALVANIC REACTION AND WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE STRUCTURAL FAILURE. THE TWO PREVIOUS GENERATION TACOMA'S HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE THAT I HAVE FOUND ACROSS NORTH AMERICA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. TOYOTA OBVIOUSLY UNDERSTANDS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. I HAVE TAKEN ACTION TO PROTECT THE FRAME BUT TOYOTA REFUSES TO ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN OBVIOUS DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. *TR

2006 TOYOTA TACOMA HAS OUTRAGEOUS RUST TO FRAME. I HAVE READ THE PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SUBJECT BY OTHER PEOPLE AND IT'S MORE OF PRETTY MUCH SAME PROBLEM. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE ISN'T AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS BY THE GOVERNMENT. THIS KIND OF RUST IS NOT NORMAL BY ANY STANDARD. I HAVE SEEN MANY MAKES AND MODELS OF PICK UP TRUCKS FIVE YEARS OLDER THAN THIS ONE WITH LITTLE OR NO RUST TO THEIR FRAMES. I'M SURE THAT THERE IS A TEST TO DETERMINE WHAT QUALITY STEEL THEY USED ON TACOMA FRAME. IS IT CHINA RECYCLED STEEL? (NOTHING ELSE WOULD RUST SO QUICK AND SO BAD.) IT'S HARD FOR ME TO IMAGINE THAT AUTOMAKER OF THIS SIZE WOULD PUT 2 TONS OF WEIGHT ON FRAMES SO DEFECTIVE, TO SAVE FEW DOLLARS. FRAME IS THE MOST IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE ,EVERYTHING RIDES ON IT INCLUDING PERSONS LIFE. FOR TOYOTA TO SAY THAT YOU NEED HOLES IN THE FRAME BEFORE THEY MAY OR MAY NOT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT IS GREEDY. THEY SHOULD HAVE USED THE RIGHT KIND OF MATERIAL IN THE FIRST PLACE. FOR OVER $30,000 FOR THEIR PICK UP TRUCK MOST PEOPLE WOULD EXPECT THE FRAME TO BE MADE OUT OF STEEL NOT MUD; BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. AFTER ALL $30,000 IS NO POCKET CHANGE FOR MOST PEOPLE. I AM SURE THEY WOULD NOT BE SAYING THAT IF IT WAS THEIR FAMILY MEMBER DRIVING THEIR TACOMA ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. I COULD GO ON ABOUT THIS, BUT WHAT'S THE POINT? THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROTECT IT'S CITIZENS FROM CHEATERS LIKE TOYOTA, NOT LET THEM GET AWAY BECAUSE THEY HAVE BILLIONS. AVERAGE CITIZEN DOES NOT STAND A CHANCE AGAINST CORPORATION OF THAT SIZE. "TO THE PERSON OR PERSONS AT TOYOTA I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT YOU HAVE A PEACEFUL DEATH WHEN THE TIME COMES, AND YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE ALL THE PROFITS WITH YOU. YOU MUST HAVE WORKED REALLY HARD ON THIS SCAM. YOU KNOW WHAT MATERIALS YOU USE FOR YOUR PRODUCT." IF THIS OFFENDS ANYONE I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE, THIS IS HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS ORDEAL. *TR
FOR AT LEAST 2 MOS PREVIOUS I WOULD HEAR A CHIRPING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IT WOULD GET LOUDER AS YOU ACCELERATED & SEAMED MORE NOTICEABLE IN WARMER WEATHER. TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DHC TORRANCE TOYOTA & SAID IT WAS MY IDLER BEARINGS. I THOUGHT THAT WAS ODD SINCE THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 37400 MILES. IT COST ME OVER $800.00. *TR
THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT HAS COME ON IN THE DASH. IT IS INDICATING THAT THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG IS INOPERATIVE DUE TO A FAULTY SQUIB. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V092000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL). AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE A SECOND TIME UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD INSTRUCT THE MANAGER OF THE DEALER TO CALL THE CONTACT BUT AFTER TWO WEEKS, THE CONTACT HAD HEARD NOTHING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,387 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,975.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR AN UNRELATED REPAIR WHEN HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED. WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 15 I ACCELERATED TO PASS A CAR IN FRONT OF MINE, APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH , I SIGNAL TO THE LEFT, MOVED TO LEFT LANE WHILE I ACCELERATED, WHEN I CLEARED THE CAR ON MY LEFT I RELEASED THE GAS PEDAL, THE TRUCK KEPT ON ACCELERATING WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL, I LOOKED AND THERE WAS NO INTERFERENCE OF ANY FLOOR MATS LUCKILY MY TRUCK IS MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL WHILE THE TRUCK KEPT ON ACCELERATING. I TAPED THE GAS PEDAL AND TRUCK DECELERATED . THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THE TRUCK AND I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW FROM. AFTER TALKING TO A FEW DEALERSHIPS AND TOYOTA CARE , THEY KEEP ON TELLING ME THAT IT'S THE MATS, BUT I HAVE REPLACED THE MATS ALREADY AND THE ISSUE IS STILL THERE. NO HELP FROM TOYOTA. *TR
2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. CONSUMER SENT REPAIR DOCUMENTS REGARDING CLOCK SPRING AND SPIRAL CABLE REPLACEMENT *TGW
SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS ABOUT 6 YEARS-OLD I'VE EXPERIENCED A HIGH DEGREE OF FRAME RUST. SINCE THIS TIME, ON A ANNUAL BASIS, I'VE SPOT PAINTED (WITH RUST PROTECTANT PAINT) AREAS OF THE FRAME THAT IS 'PEPPERED' WITH RUST. RECENTLY, I FOUND OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM IS RAMPANT THROUGHOUT THE TACOMA COMMUNITY, SO I HAVE SINCE CONTACTED TOYOTA. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN NON-RESPONSIVE, SO I AM IN THE PROCESS OF DEALING WITH THE CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AS I WRITE THIS, I AM AWAITING THEIR RESPONSE. I FIND THIS FRAME RUST PROBLEM DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE. MY LOCAL CLIMATE ONLY SEES AN AVERAGE HUMIDITY LEVEL OF 5%, WITH VERY LITTLE RAIN, YET STILL THE FRAME IS PEPPERED WITH RUST EACH YEAR I DO MY INSPECTION. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND WHILE SECURED IN PARK, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE TO ABNORMALLY HIGH SPEEDS. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO THREE DIFFERENT CEMENT EMBANKMENTS IN A PARKING LOT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS SPINE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OF THE ACCELERATION FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
WE OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA THAT WAS TAKEN TO A GARAGE FOR A STATE INSPECTION AND WAS POINTED OUT TO US THAT THE VEHICLE HAS EXTENSIVE FRAME RUST WITH AREA OF SIGNIFICANT RUST FLAKING OFF. IT WAS ALSO NOTED THAT THERE WAS A SMALL RUST THROUGH IN ONE AREA. WE TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED IT.THEY TOOK PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE TO FORWARD TO TOYOTA FOR THEM TO EVALUATE THE SITUATION. IT WAS NOTED THAT THE TECHNICIAN EXCLAIMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD THIS MUCH RUST FOR SUCH A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE (29,407 MILES). TOYOTA REPLIED TO THE INQUIRY AND STATED THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY WOULD NOT ACT ON IT. LOOKING AT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND COMPARING WITH OTHER EARLIER TACOMAS THAT HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR FRAME RUST, I FAIL TO SEE WHERE THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED HAVING A MAJOR RUST PROBLEM. I'M CONCERNED THAT THERE WILL BE FURTHER DEGRADATION AND POSSIBLE LEAD TO THE VEHICLE BEING UNSAFE. PICTURES AND COPY OF WORK ORDER AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. *TR
WHILE ROTATING TIRES, I HAVE HAD THREE DIFFERENT WHEEL LUGS BREAK, ONE APPROXIMATELY 10000 MILES PREVIOUSLY AND TWO ON THE SAME WHEEL ON THE DATE INDICATED ABOVE. THE LUG NUTS WHERE NOT CROSS THREADED. THESE LUGS WHERE BROKEN WHILE TORQUING THE NUTS PER THE MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATION. THE TORQUE WRENCH WAS NOT PROFESSIONALLY CALIBRATED, BUT WAS COMPARED TO A RECENTLY CALIBRATED TORQUE WRENCH, BOTH WRENCHES COINCIDED. GRANTED THE LUGS HAVE HAD A SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL FOR LUBRICATION. I WAS WORKING NIGHTS AND HAD THIS INCIDENT UNFOLDED WHILE WORKING MY NORMAL DAY SHIFT, I AM POSITIVE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN CONTACT BETWEEN MY VEHICLE WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE, OR ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH TIRE AND RIM ON ROUTE 287 NORTH IN NEW JERSEY AS THE ROADS ARE PACKED LIKE SARDINES IN A CAN YET MOVING AT A BRISK PACE. THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER LAST SUMMER TO GET REPAIRED. I ASKED HIM IF HE COULD TIGHTEN THE SEAT BELT RETRACTION TENSION AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE COULD NOT WITHOUT REPLACING THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT A SEAT BELT TENSIONER BOLT HAD COME LOOSE CAUSING THE RETRACTOR TO MALFUNCTION. TIGHTENING THE BOLT WOULD NOT FIX IT. THE COST OF THE PART TO FIX IT WAS APPROX. $250. SINCE MY TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY WERE NOT GOING TO FIX IT FOR FREE. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT IN MY TRUCK GETS USED APPROX. 1/10 THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE DRIVER SIDE DOES. CALLED DEALER FOR RECALL INFORMATION AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A PENDING RECALL OUT SOMETIME THIS SUMMER 2012 BUT IF WANTED TO REPAIR NOW WOULD BE AT MY EXPENSE. WHY NO ACTION ON KNOWN PROBLEM. THERE ARE EVEN ADS ON EBAY TO REPAIR THE SPIRAL CABLE AND/OR CONNECTORS. ONE SUCH VENDOR HAS DONE HUNDREDS OF REPAIRS. *JS
HEAVY RUST ON VEHICLE FRAME. THE FRONT TOW BAR IS RUSTED THROUGH. YOU CAN SEE THE THREADS OF ONE OF THE BOLTS THAT MOUNTS THE SKID BARS THROUGH THE FRAME. HEAVY RUSTING OF FRAME MOSTLY IN THE FRONT UNDER THE ENGINE. THE FRAME IS RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THIS IS EVIDENT WHEN YOU WIPE THE INSIDE RAILS OF THE FRAME AND RUST DEPOSITS ARE FOUND. THE TOW BAR IS HOLLOW AND MULTIPLE 2-3IN LONG BY 1/8-1/4IN PIECES HAVE BEEN PULLED OUT. OTHER PARTS OF THE FRAME HAVE SIMILAR PIECES FOUND ALTHOUGH NONE HAVE BEEN FOUND THAT ARE QUITE THAT LARGE. THE RUST IS CAUSING THE FRAME TO BUBBLE UP AND IS OFTEN TWICE THE WIDTH OF THE FRAME. SOME PARTS ARE FINE. THERE IS A SPOT ON THE FRONT FRAME THAT LOOKS BRAND NEW WHEN WIPED DOWN. IT IS BLACK AND SHINY WHILE RIGHT NEXT TO IT IS SOME OF THE WORST RUST. THE ONLY HOLES I HAVE FOUND SO FAR ARE IN THE FRONT. I HAVE A QUALITY VEHICLE INSPECTION FROM BIG ISLAND TOYOTA WHEN MY THE VEHICLE HAD 70801 MILES NOTING THE RUST ON FRAME. THIS WAS IN APRIL 2012. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN HAWAII AND HAS BEEN IN HAWAII EVER SINCE. THAT INSPECTION WAS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SIX YEARS OLD. OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE ARE SHOWING EXTENSIVE RUST AS WELL SUCH AS BRACKETS, NUTS, BOLTS, WHEEL HUBS AND RIMS. *TR

THE TACOMA INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT IS UNPROTECTED AND EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS UNDER THE TRUCK, THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON WITH ALL TACOMAS FROM 2005 TO PRESENT 1012 MODEL. MY STEERING BEGAN TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED GIVING THE FEEL THAT I COULD NOT TURN THE TRUCK. THE PROBLEM APPEARS SUDDENLY AND FOR A SHORT TIME SEEMS TO COME AND GO. ACCORDING TO NUMEROUS FORUM WEBSITES, THIS IS BECOMING A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. DUE TO ITS EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS, THE UNIVERSAL JOINT FAILS AND BINDS MAKING THE VEHICLE FEEL LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING UP. SPRAYING THE JOINT WITH A PENETRANT WILL LOOSEN IT TEMPORARILY TO CONFIRM THAT THIS IS THE PROBLEM. IF NOT CORRECTED, THE UNIVERSAL MAY BIND COMPLETELY OR SNAP, THIS WILL UNDOUBTEDLY CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING OR CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I RECENTLY HAD MINE REPLACED BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND I AM AWARE OF MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE RESULTING IN A CRASH OR EVEN DEATH!
