TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A ROUTINE SERVICE, THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE LEAF SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000. UPON NOTICING THAT THE LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL WAS NOT WORKING, I INSPECTED THE TURN SIGNALS, NOTING THAT BOTH FRONT TURN SIGNALS/DTRL'S ARE CRACKED AND APPEAR BURNED. I REPLACED THE TURN SIGNAL BULB, BUT THE TURN SIGNAL STILL DOES NOT WORK. *TR
BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT DTRL LENSES ARE MELTED FROM HEAT FROM THE BULB, I AM WORRIED ABOUT AN ELECTRICAL SHORT, OR FIRE. DEALER SAYS IT IS COSMETIC AND DOES NOT WANT TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES SINCE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD ADDRESS WITH URGENCY. *TR
THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF THE CAB OF MY TACOMA, EVEN THOUGH I WASH IT FREQUENTLY AND WAX IT. IT IS FADED AND NOW STARTING TO RUST DUE TO THE PAINT PEELING AND COMING OFF THE TOP OF THE CAB. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO STOP THIS, BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK, AND SEEMS TO BE POOR QUALITY PAINT OR WORKMANSHIP. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR AS MINE WITH THE SAME ISSUES.
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS GENERATED ENOUGH HEAT TO MELT. THE INTERIOR COLORED LENS ON BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES, I NOTICED DISCOLORATION AND CRACKS IN THE COLORED LENS WITHIN 1ST 12 MONTHS. MORE RECENTLY THE COLORED LENS BEGAN TO MELT AND RUN, LOOKS AS IF THEY WERE EXPOSED DIRECTLY TO FLAMES. THERE IS ALSO NOTICEABLE HEAT DAMAGE TO THE CLEAR EXTERIOR LENS COVER NEAR THE AREA OF THE DRL. TOYOTA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT DID NOT NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD THIS MAY CAUSE. HEAT DAMAGE HAS CLEARLY BECOME MORE SEVERE OVER TIME. *JB
2005-2011 TOYOTA TACOMA REAR LEAF SPRING RECALL - NHTSA RECALL - 14V-604. PURCHASED REPLACEMENT SPRINGS AND PAID DEALERSHIP TO INSTALL IN AUG. 2013 BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND SPRINGS BROKEN. WHEN RECALL ANNOUNCED IN 2016, I REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FOR PARTS & INSTALLATION FROM TOYOTA MOTOR SALES. I HAVE SUBMITTED OVER 10 RESPONSES WITH REQUESTED DOCUMENTATION AND TOYOTA MOTOR SALES REFUSES TO REIMBURSE STATING THEY NEED DOCUMENTATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHICH HAS BEEN PROVIDED MORE THAN ONCE. I FILED A BBB COMPLAINT AND THE DEALERSHIP'S RESPONSE WAS TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
MY VEHICLES DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL), WHICH ARE LOCATED IN THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, ARE BURNING THROUGH THE LENSES. THE LENS IN FRONT OF THE BULB IS DISCOLORED AND SEEMS TO BE MELTING DUE TO OVERHEATING. THE PLASTIC IS DARK AND LOOKS BURNED. BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT THERE IS CONCERN FOR DRIVER SAFETY AS THERE SEEMS TO BE AN OBVIOUS FIRE HAZARD THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN BOTH OF MY FRONT HEADLIGHTS. *TR
EXCESSIVE HEAT FROM DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHT BULBS CAUSE MY VEHICLE HEADLIGHT LENSES TO SLOWLY BURN AND CRACK. *TR
THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS BROKE ON THE TACOMA, I HAD TO PAY FOR NEW, AND WAS TOLD THEY INTEND TO REPLACE THE REMAINING WHEN "THEY COME IN." FOR 2 YEARS I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE SPRINGS "TO COME IN". THEY WILL SUPPOSEDLY REIMBURSE ME FOR THE BROKEN SIDE ($300.00), WHEN THE NEW "COME IN". REALLY? 2 YEARS? WHATS GOING ON?
THE PLASTIC HOUSING/PLASTIC LENS COVERING THE AMBER DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS AND THE CLEAR FOG LIGHTS ARE BURNED, MELTED, CRACKED AND BROKEN. THIS IS NOT DUE TO ANY FRONT END COLLISION BUT DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT GENERATED BY THE ORIGINAL FACTORY-INSTALLED LIGHT BULBS. THE LIGHTS ARE GENERATING SO MUCH HEAT THAT THEY ARE MELTING, BURNING AND CRACKING THE PLASTIC HOUSING WHICH THEN BREAKS UNDER DRIVING STRESS. COMPOUNDING THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN OFF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN OPERATION. EITHER THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS MUST BE ON OR THE HEADLIGHTS MUST BE ON. THEREFORE, THE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO BURN THE PLASTIC HOUSING. TOYOTA WILL NOT COMPLETELY COVER THE COST TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE LIGHT SYSTEMS STATING THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS ONE YEAR OUT OF THE 3 YEARS MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY THIS PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR OVERNIGHT BUT IS THE RESULT OF 4 YEARS OF USE. THE LENS HAVE BEEN PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. BECAUSE THE LENS ARE BURNED, WE ARE CONCERNED THAT A FIRE COULD OCCUR. *TR

TOYOTA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN# T-SB-0129-11 TOYOTA KNEW THERE IS A MELTING/SAFETY ISSUE WITH DRL YET I WAS NOT INFORMED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN WARRANTY BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2011, WHEN THE TSB ABOVE WAS PUBLISHED BY TOYOTA. TOYOTA STILL WANTS ME TO PAY AT 31,000 MILES 2009 TACOMA ALMOST $300 TO FIX IT. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SINCE MELTING HAS DIMMED THE LIGHTING OUTPUT & POSES A FIRE HAZARD AS THE MELTING HAS ALSO REACHED THE BACK OF THE BULB SOCKET WHERE THE WIRING IS. PLEASE HELP. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON A SUBURBAN ROAD. WHEN I DROVE OVER ANY SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD, A LOUD METALLIC CLINKING SOUND COULD BE HEARD ISSUING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE LEFT LEAF SPRING HAD BROKEN AND WAS SMACKING AGAINST THE REAR AXLE WHEN THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS PUT IN MOTION. IT WAS MANDATORY THAT I REPLACE THE LEAF SPRINGS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY AND DRIVABILITY. THE REPAIR COST ME $491 (I HAVE THE RECEIPT); THE INCIDENT WAS UNNERVING AND CAUSED CONSIDERABLE BOTHER AND INCONVENIENCE. *TR

2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. LAST WEEK I HAVE TO CHANGE THE BURNT LIGHT BULB FOR THE TURN/DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT AND NOTICED THAT THE LENS INSIDE THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY WAS BROKEN IN HALF. BY LOOKING FROM THE FRONT SIDE I CAN SEE THAT THE PLASTIC LENS HAS BEEN MELTED DOWN. AFTER A THOROUGH INSPECTION, I NOTICED THAT THERE IS A TRACE OF OVERHEATING ON THE SOCKET. THIS ISSUE CAN CAUSE A FIRE ON THIS VEHICLE. I HOPE TOYOTA WILL STAND FOR IT'S REPUTATION AND CORRECT THIS ISSUE. BECAUSE, IT WILL CREATE A FIRE HAZARD IN THE FUTURE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON I/S 95 IN ATTLEBORO, MA AT ABOUT 2:45 PM ON 6/6/13 IN A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP. MY WIFE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE ONLY OTHER PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH AND MOVED TO THE RIGHT LANE TO TAKE EXIT 2 ONTO RT 1A SOUTHBOUND. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AND ENGAGED. WHEN I FLIPPED THE LEVER TO DISENGAGE (CANCEL) THE CRUISE CONTROL THE TRUCK DID NOT START TO SLOW DOWN (MY FOOT WAS OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL). IF ANYTHING, THE TRUCK STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES VERY FORCEFULLY, WITH LITTLE, IF ANY AFFECT. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. BY THIS TIME, I WAS OFF THE HIGHWAY AND ON THE EXIT RAMP. CENTRIFUGAL FORCE WAS PUSHING ME TO THE LEFT. IT PUSHED THE TRUCK OVER THE CURB AND GRASS AND INTO THE ENTRANCE RAMP FROM 1A SOUTH ONTO I/S 95 SOUTH. AT THIS TIME, I SAW A VEHICLE ON THE ENTRANCE RAMP HEADED TOWARD ME. HAD I TRIED TO STEER TO THE RIGHT THE TRUCK WOULD MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE SKIDDED AND BLOCKED THE RAMP ENTIRELY, SO I TURNED TO THE LEFT, TURNING INTO THE SKID, HOPING THAT THE ONCOMING VEHICLE WOULD HAVE ROOM ENOUGH TO PASS TO MY RIGHT. MY TRUCK CONTINUED SKIDDING TO MY LEFT AND I BELIEVE HIT THE CURB ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENTRANCE RAMP. IT THEN FLIPPED ONTO THE DRIVERS SIDE, SKIDDED ALONG THE PAVEMENT, HIT SOMETHING ELSE MOST LIKELY THE GUARDRAIL AND FLIPPED BACK TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION. IT CAME TO REST ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENTRANCE RAMP. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT BECAME OF THE PREVIOUSLY ON-COMING AUTO. THERE WAS NOTHING TO INDICATE CONTACT BETWEEN CONTACT BETWEEN THE TWO VEHICLES. BOTH SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. BOTH OF US HAD OUR SEAT BELTS ATTACHED. THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WAS BROKEN, THE ROOF SEVERELY DENTED, SCRAPES ALONG THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND GLASS THROUGHOUT THE CAB. THE RESCUE ARRIVED AND TRANSPORTED US TO THE HOSPITAL.
BOTH FRONT AMBER DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL) ARE MELTING THE PLASTIC LENS COVERS AND IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS RISK OF A FIRE. THE ORIGINAL BULBS ARE IN THE TRUCK. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE NEVER OPENED OR CHANGED ANY OF THE LIGHTS ON THIS TRUCK. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THIS HAS BEEN LIKE THIS, BUT I WOULD GUESS THAT IT HAS BEEN OVER-HEATING FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THE PLASTIC IS BUBBLING AND IS TURNING A BURNT COLOR. *TR
WHEN I TOOK MY TACOMA PICKUP TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR ITS 35,000-MILE OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION, THEY POINTED OUT THAT THE LENSES ON BOTH DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE BURNED AND DISTORTED, APPARENTLY FROM THE HEAT OF THE AMBER BULB. THEY SAID THERE IS NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN REPLACING THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT MODULE ON BOTH SIDES. PARTS AND LABOR WOULD BE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN $700 AND $1,000. I'M PAST THE THREE-YEAR WARRANTY COVERAGE. I SENT AN E-MAIL COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THIS IS A COSMETIC PROBLEM THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX. WRONG. THIS IS A FIRE SAFETY PROBLEM. FROM ONLINE RESEARCH, I HAVE NOW LEARNED THAT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH TACOMAS. ON NEW MODELS, IT HAS BEEN FIXED WITH A REDESIGNED HEADLIGHT MODULE THAT MOVES THE BULB SOCKET FARTHER BACK TO PREVENT THE HEAT FROM THE BULB FROM DAMAGING THE LENS. ON OLDER MODELS, YOU COULD JUST REMOVE THE BULB TO AVOID A FIRE EXCEPT THAT THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT BULB IS ALSO THE TURN SIGNAL BULB. I HOPE YOU WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
I WAS COMING INTO A RIGHT HANDED CORNER ON DRY PAVEMENT DOING 45MPH (LESS THAN THE SUGGESTED SPEED FOR THE CORNER). AS I LET OFF THE THROTTLE AND TURNED INTO THE CORNER THE VEHICLES STABILITY CONTROL KICKED IN CAUSING THE TRUCK TO GO STRAIGHT. I HAD TO FIGHT AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL AND MANAGED TO OVERPOWER THE STABILITY CONTROL BUT BY THEN I WAS IN THE ON-COMING LANE. *TR
NOTICED A LOUD RATTLE IN THE REAR OF VEHICLE. *TR
WHEN CHANGING DIRECTION OF TRAVEL SUCH AS FORWARD TO REVERSE THE BRAKES MAKE A LOUD CLANK. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY STATED THE BRAKE PAD PINS ARE ACTUALLY HITTING THE ROTORS, THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THERE IS NO FIX YET. MY CONCERN IF THERE IS NO FIX THEN HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THESE SMALL PINS TO BREAK CAUSING ME TO LOOSE CRITICAL BREAKING. THE BREAKING SYSTEM IS ONE OF THE MOST CRITICAL PARTS OF AN AUTOMOBILE AND I HAVE KIDS IN MY VEHICLE. WHY IS THIS NOT A MAJOR CONCERN TO TOYOTA? *TR

INSIDE THE FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IS A COMBINATION TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR/ EMERGENCY FLASH INDICATOR/DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT. *TR THE LENSE FOR THIS COMBINATION INDICATOR INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAS MELTED AND AFFECTED THE INTEGRITY OF THE COMPONENT. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TWICE AND TOYOTA CUSTOMER SATISFACTION BY TELEPHONE. BUT THEY DID NOT OFFER ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CORRECTING THE PROBLEM, EXCEPT FOR TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF THE COMPLETE ASSEMBLY AT MY EXPENSE. BY THE REGULATIONS OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WITH THE DOT TOYOTA SHOULD COMPLY WITH PART 564 OF THE SAFETY REGULATION REQUIREMENTS, AND BY THIS SHOULD NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE OPTIONAL REPLACEMENT PARTS AS A SERVICE BULLITIN WITH A MAILED NOTIFICATION LETTER. BECAUSE OF THIS OVERSIGHT TOYOTA HAS CHOSEN TO ADAPT A STRATAGY TO USE AN EXCEPTION TO THEIR WARRANTY CONTRACT BY LIMITING THEIR RESPONSIBILITY IN EFFECT OF COMPONENT EXCLUSIONS I.E. LIGHT BULBS BECAUSE OF TOYOTA'S INABILLITY TO RECOGNISE AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH A NOTIFICATION. MANY OF THE DEALERS AND OWNERS WHO COULD HAVE CORRECTED THE IMPROPER MATCHING OF THE ASSEMBLIES, BEFORE DAMAGE TO THE INTEGRITY OF THE SIGNAL INDICATORS REQUIRED SAFE OPERATION WAS LOST AND TOYOTA GAINED CONSIDERABLE FINANCIAL ADVANTAGE AT THE EXPENSE OF SAFETY.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON AND HORN DOES NOT WORK. AFTER RESEARCHING, LEARNED THIS IS AN AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING (OTHERWISE KNOWN AS A SPIRAL CABLE) ISSUE THAT HAS A RELATED RECALL FOR 2005-2009 TOYOTA TACOMAS UNDER CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12V-092. THE 7 CHANNEL CIRCUITS ARE STEERING WHEELS WITHOUT THE AUDIO CONTROLS, WHERE THE 16 CHANNEL CIRCUITS HAVE STEERING WHEEL AUDIO CONTROLS. TOYOTA DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE $400 FOR PART, PLUS LABOR. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS WHEN THIS IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM THAT IS OCCURRING REGARDLESS OF THE CHANNEL CIRCUIT TYPE. MY DAUGHTER HAS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
AT MY STATE INSPECTION I WAS TOLD THE FRONT BALL JOINTS WERE VERY BAD. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT UNDER WARRANTY, THEY WOULD COST $800.00 TO REPAIR AND THEY HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THIS FAILURE BEFORE AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. THIS YEAR I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR INSPECTION TO FIND THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS ON BOTH SIDES WERE BROKEN. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER I WAS AGAIN TOLD IT WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE AND THEY HAD NOT EXPERIENCED IT BEFORE. I ASKED TO HAVE THE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE TOYOTA DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE, BUT WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT GIVE THAT INFORMATION OUT. I SENT A COMPLAINT VIA EMAIL TO TOYOTA CORPORATE AND AT THIS POINT HAVE RECEIVED NOT RESPONSE. THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOPS TELL ME THEY HAVE REPAIRED MANY OF THESE TRUCKS FOR THESE PROBLEMS. THE INTERNET IS AWASH WITH COMPLAINTS REGARDING BROKEN SPRINGS. I WAS LUCKY, I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM BEFORE THE SPRING PIECE REACHED MY REAR TIRE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A POTENTIALLY VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE COMPANY IS TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY TO RESOLVE. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS WERE TOO CLOSE IN PROXIMITY AND WAS CAUSING THE CONTACT TO ERRONEOUSLY DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,800.

I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE ON NOVEMBER 28, 2012 AND EXPLAINED THAT THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD AND REQUESTED IT BE REPAIRED. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLED ME BACK ON NOVEMBER 28, 2012 AND SAID THAT BECAUSE THE "ORIGINAL FACTORY WARRANTY" HAD EXPIRED SO THAT THERE WOULD BE NO REMEDY OFFERED BY TOYOTA. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED ONLINE ON VARIOUS TACOMA / TOYOTA OWNERS' SITES. PERSONNEL AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE "REPLACEMENT PART" HAD BEEN RE-DESIGNED TO ELIMINATE THIS PROBLEM....SO TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE HEADLIGHT IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. IT SEEMS THAT THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS WERE NOT PROPERLY ENGINEERED IN THIS MODEL. BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT THERE IS A CLEAR CONSCIENCE THE MELTING LENSES CREATE AN OBVIOUS FIRE HAZARD. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY TACOMA IN THE TAMPA FLORIDA AREA ADVISED ME THAT TOYOTA HAS NO RECALL OF EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS "KNOWN" PROBLEM. I WAS VERY DISMAYED TO HEAR THIS BECAUSE THE ISSUE IS CLEARLY PRESENTS A THREAT TO THE DRIVER. BECAUSE OF THIS SITUATION I HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION ON WHAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE TO ME. EITHER I REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WITH THE TOYOTA FACTORY ASSEMBLY WHICH IS ALREADY KNOWN TO HAVE A DEFECT OR I FIGURE OUT A WAY TO DISABLE THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS TO CUT BACK ON THE HEAD THAT BUILDS UP WITH THEM CONSTANTLY BEING ON. I WOULD RATHER NOT DISABLE THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT THEY DO PROVIDE SIGNIFICANT SAFETY VALUE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT I AM GOING TO DO AT THIS POINT BUT CLEARLY ACTION IS NEEDED. THE RUBBER STRIP RUNNING FORE - AFT ON THE CAB OF THE TRUCK CAME OFF DURING DRIVING. THE RUBBER STRIP COULD HAVE LANDED ON THE WINDSHIELD OF A FELLOW MOTORIST AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. YOU CAN SEE BLACK AROUND THE BASE OF THEM. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AT 59K MILES AND I HAVE THE PLATINUM 7YEAR/100000MI WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME 1100 FOR PARTS ALONE TO FIX, OFFERED NO HELP AND LIED TO ME AND SAID THEY HAVE HAD NO OTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS NATURE AND ITS A RARE PROBLEM NEVER BEFORE SEEN. I HAVE REMOVED MY DRL BULBS OUT OF CONCERN OF A FIRE STARTING AND THEN I PROBABLY GET STUCK WITH THAT BILL OF A BURNT FRONT END. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY BECAUSE TOYOTA PUT IN A BULB THAT'S TOO HOT OR BECAUSE TOYOTA DECIDED TO MAKE A CHEAP PLASTIC COVER FOR THE BULBS. I HAD ZERO INFLUENCE ON THIS FAILURE. IT LEAVES A DARK SPOT ( APPROX 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER) . IT HAPPENED WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMP WAS HOT (GREATER THAN 105 DEG F) AND THE RUNNING LIGHTS WERE ON (THEY COME ON AUTOMATICALLY WHEN TRUCK IS STARTED). I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE (GOOGLE SEARCH) AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THERE HEADLIGHTS HAVING A MELTED / BURNT SPOT ON BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES. THE LOCAL DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO FIX OR RECALL CURRENTLY. I HAVE READ THAT SOME PEOPLE WERE GETTING THIS PROBLEM FIXED IF THE MILEAGE OR TIME WAS WITHIN THE WARRANTY. MINE OCCURRED AFTER.
