The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for State Inspection however, the vehicle failed the inspection due to cracks to the driver’s and passenger’s side sub frame, and corroded brake lines. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that both the driver’s and passenger’s side sub frame and brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. An undisclosed dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that an unstated recall had expired, and the previous vehicle owner was notified, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000.
Stepping on the break sometimes I have a good firm brake pedal others seem to go almost to the floor. Talking with a mechanic he had told me that there was numerous Toyota tacomas with the same issue. I have tried bleeding the brakes and still have the same symptoms I would think this would be a safety issue.

WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, MY DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LINE COMPLETELY BROKE OFF. THIS WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. THE TRUCK IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD. THE TRUCK FRAME HAD BEEN SPRAYED WITH THE ANTI RUST COATING BY TOYOTA A YEAR PRIOR. THE BRAKE LINE WAS NOT COVERED IN THE TOYOTA FRAME RUST RECALL. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION AND I HAD NO PRIOR INDICATIONS THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS FAULTY.

THE BRAKE LINE WAS DAMAGED DUE TO THE RUBBING AND MAY AT SOME POINT, RUPTURE. IT APPEARED THE DAMAGED BRAKE LINE, WAS CAUSED BY THE DEFECTIVE SPRINGS OR POOR PLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE LINE IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE PIECE OF METAL. *JB

WHEN DRIVING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY IN RI AT APPROX 6-8 MPH, I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVEWAY BEFORE REACHING THE MAIN ROAD. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY NEW VEHICLE (PURCHASED 8/2010) I STARTED TO NOTICE A SHUDDER THROUGH THE FLOOR BOARD AND STEERING COLUMN. THE SHUDDER OCCURRED SPORATICALLY AND ALWAYS AT 20MPH. IT REMINDED ME OF DRIVING OVER THE RUMBLE STRIPS CUT ALONG FREEWAYS AND PRIOR TO TOLL BOTHS. THE SUDDER OCCURS ON UPGRADES, DOWNGRADES, TURNS, AND FLAT ROADWAYS. A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP HAS WORKED ON THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT REPRODUCE THE INCIDENT AND THAT THE VEHICLE IS "OPERATING AS DESIGNED". DAVE ZELLERS (CUSTOMER RETENTION FOR TOYOTA) ASSISTED IN MY COMPLAINT AND IN THE END REFUNDED $890.00 AS A SIGN OF GOOD FAITH (EXTENDED WARRANTY PRICE). TOYOTA HAS GROUND THE FRONT DISKS ON TWO SEPARATE SERVICE OCCASIONS STATING THEY WERE NOT FLAT. THEY HAVE CUT MORE METAL FROM THE FRONT DISKS THAN I HAVE USED WITH ONLY 14,000 PLUS MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I NOW BELIEVE THERE IS A FLUID RESTRICTION IN THE TRANSMISSION OR A PROBLEM IN THE DRIVE TRAIN. ONCE THE INCIDENT STOPPED WHEN I PLACED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. I HAVE RECORDED THE INCIDENTS AND THEY HAVE OCCURRED AT LEAST 106 TIMES AND ARE STILL HAPPENING. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOWED DOWN CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED A MINOR BACK INJURY. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL MECHANIC TO EXAMINE THE BRAKES WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKES WERE FAULTY. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SINCE THE WARRANTY WAS VALID. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING SINCE THE DEALER INSTALLED THE BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEM A WEEK PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
I HAVE A TOYOTA TACOMA 2010. THE WAY THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS ARE CONFIGURED I FREQUENTLY HIT THE GAS PEDAL ALONG WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN DEPRESSED GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THE PEDALS ARE SO CLOSE TOGETHER THAT THE GAS PEDAL IS SOMETIMES INTERCEPTED WHILE BRAKING CAUSING THE ENGINE TO RACE. THIS ESPECIALLY HAPPENS WHEN BACKING UP AND MY BODY IS CONTORTED TO SEE OUT THE REAR WINDSHIELD. IT ALSO HAPPENS FREQUENTLY WHEN WEARING BOOTS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE REFERRED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALER. THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO REMEDY FOR THE PROBLEM. I HAVE GONE TO ARBITRATION TO NO AVAIL. NOW I LEARN THAT TOYOTA HAS A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM INTRODUCED IN THE 2011 MODELS. THE FIX IS REFERRED TO AS SMART STOP TECHNOLOGY [SST]. THEY DISABLE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. I HAVE ASKED TOYOTA TO RETROFIT MY VEHICLE WITH THIS FIX BUT SO FAR I AM BEING STONEWALLED. *TT
