The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Defender LTX M/S2, Tire Size: 245/70/R17, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated that two weeks after the vehicle was inspected and passed the inspection, while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the brake pedal to stop at a stop sign, the vehicle failed to stop and slid past the stop sign. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and saw that the steel belts were protruding from the tires. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the vehicle should not have passed the inspection with the tires currently on the vehicle. Additionally, the contact was informed that there was a recall on the vehicle for the back-over prevention camera screen. The contact stated that the back-over prevention screen frequently went blank. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that there was no remedy yet for the recall repair. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer approximately 22 times for three separate failures, but could not be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures, and the contact requested a buyback of the vehicle; however, the buyback was declined by the manufacturer. The failure mileage was unknown.
I had 8022 miles on my tacoma , toyota employee of almost a decade , drove like normal no adds , one morning drove to a conference and was on the road no more than 20 min and then I see the bed of my truck on fire , im on the interstate so i pull over quickly and call 911 and then it just burnt up and gone. Now a year later and toyota refuses to assist with anything saying they cant find out despite the insurance companies ruling me out and fowl play out. I feel strongly toyota has an obligation to make this right.
I bought the vehicle at the end of September 2024 and February 12, 2025. I had been on the road for about 15 minutes nothing different and then I look in my rearview mirror and underneath the bed of the truck was on fire and The truck was completely destroyed and Toyota is not doing anything about it or helping at all and im a toyota employee of almost a decade
There is currently a safety recall on my vehicle that has no remedy available. There is a risk of having brake hoses rupturing and losing braking fluid, causing a no brakes situations and high risk for an accident. I reached out to the dealership and was provided with no information on how to resolve the situation, but was referred to their company's headquarters. Once I reached out to their representative, I was informed that the estimated time to provide a potential repair would be about 3 months. Essentially I was given the option of either driving the vehicle and expose myself and others to a vehicle incident or store my vehicle until there is a remedy provided, but still incur the costs of the vehicle, namely paying the vehicle loan.
Back up camera is not shielded correctly and rain accumulates on the camera everytime that it rains. it does not matter if it is a light rain ir a heavy rain. This causes the image to be very blurry and creates a hazard.

The vehicle is a 2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 that was later traded for a 2025 Tacoma SR5 due to a serious safety defect involving the rear brake lines. The problem is the same one described in Toyota’s recall: the rear brake hoses can be damaged by debris, resulting in brake fluid loss and potential brake failure. The safety risk was significant. The vehicle was used to transport a young child, and because the brake lines could fail without warning, the truck could not be safely operated for daily driving. Multiple franchised Toyota dealerships confirmed that they had no remedy parts available for several months and that the repair could not be performed. This left the vehicle without a functional safety repair for an extended period. The manufacturer’s public statements indicated that a fix existed, but dealerships consistently stated the opposite. No alternate transportation, loaner vehicle, or temporary replacement was provided during this period. The defect was not reproducible by driving because of the risk involved, but the safety issue was acknowledged by dealerships who stated that the recall was active and unresolved. The vehicle was effectively unusable for normal safe operation. No warning lights appeared on the dashboard; the hazard is related to the physical brake line design and exposure to debris rather than an electronic sensor. The vehicle was inspected by multiple Toyota dealerships, all of whom confirmed that no repair could be performed at the time. The component was not replaced, repaired, or made safe before the vehicle was traded out of due to the unresolved safety defect. The situation caused substantial safety concerns and financial hardship and appears to reflect a wider problem in remedy availability for this recall.
Vehicle Information Vehicle: 2024 Toyota Tacoma VIN: [XXX] ate: January 26, 2025 Repair Completed: October 1, 2025 Safety Complaint Description Beginning on or about February 5, 2025, my 2024 Toyota Tacoma developed a serious braking-related safety issue that substantially affected the safe operation of the vehicle. When I brought the vehicle to the dealership, I reported braking concerns and was advised by dealership personnel that the vehicle may not be safe to drive due to concerns that the rear brakes might not function properly under certain conditions. I was specifically told by dealership staff that they would not recommend driving the vehicle due to safety risks. Despite this warning, I was forced to continue operating the vehicle because no repair remedy was available at that time and no equivalent loaner vehicle or safe alternative transportation was provided. Over the course of several months, I repeatedly contacted the dealership regarding the issue. Each time, I was told that no repair remedy was available and that nothing could be done until Toyota released a repair solution. I was also advised that my only option was to leave the vehicle at the dealership indefinitely, which was not practical because the vehicle was my only means of transportation. As a result, I was forced to continue driving a vehicle that had been identified as unsafe. The defect remained unresolved for approximately eight months. During this time, I experienced significant safety concerns and loss of reliable vehicle use. Because of the prolonged delay in repair and lack of alternative transportation, I was ultimately forced to purchase another vehicle in order to maintain necessary transportation. The braking-related condition was not permanently corrected until approximately October 1, 2025. This situation created significant safety concerns because I was forced to operate a vehicle that dealership personnel advised may not be safe to drive, yet INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Lane keeping will kamikaze the vehicle on to exit ramps or exit only lanes when engaged at a highway speed. This seems most common when the truncated lane markers, usually used on exit-only lanes, and not the full length lane markers (the center line markings). Example: Vehicle is traveling at a static heading, freeway speed, two lane limited access freeway, driver in control, all lane keeping and adaptive features engaged. When an exit lane approaches on right, vehicle abruptly deviates to the exit lane with zero driver intent or inputs. Once vehicle system realizes the error, system alerts, notifies of a lane departure, and disables the lane keeping. Particularly problematic is that vehicle actively fights driver inputs to restore the intended course as it appears to believe the driver is in error. This is not a one-off occurrence. It is very consistent. To the point when I can anticipate, disable the system or counter steer to keep the vehicle course straight. It seems the vehicle cannot properly identify the shortened / truncated pavement markings correctly, leading to this undesirable course adjustment.

I am reporting a safety issue with my 2024 Toyota Tacoma regarding Recall 25V595 / 25TA08 (Blank Instrument Cluster Display). Multiple authorized dealers have refused to perform the repair, claiming that parts are unavailable. This defect prevents me from obtaining commercial insurance and fully utilizing the vehicle for my business needs, as a non-functional speedometer is a major safety hazard. This situation is significantly impacting my work and safe operation of the vehicle.
The morning my transmission failed... I started the truck and put it in R, at which point the entire truck shuddered for several seconds. At this point many, many warning messages appeared on the instrument cluster screen as well as the infotainment screen - and the truck would not move in Reverse. After moving the shifter into P and back to R, the truck backed out of the driveway. When the truck was shifted to D - nothing happened. The truck was shifted back to R and then back to D at which point the truck moved forward but would not shift out of 1st gear. Placed truck back in P and then back to D two more times and truck would move forward but not shift out of 1st gear. Turned truck off and on approximately 3 times and it began to shift gears when driving. I drove the truck to the closest Toyota dealership where the warning codes were checked, and I was told that my transmission was bad and needed to be replaced. I was told that it would need a new Torque Converter assy, new Automatic Transmission assy, and a new Hybrid Module assy. Total cost for parts would be $27,504.29.... Covered by warranty. My truck was purchased brand new in Virginia, MN on [XXX], and the failure occurred on [XXX] with less than 800 miles on the vehicle. The spare tire hoist on Tacomas was over tighten at the factory, when I had a flat, used the kit tool to try to lower spare tire, the weak metal failed, unable to lower tire. Took vehicle to Stapp Toyota, they knew all about the problem, they loosen hoist, but would not cover the tool kit under warranty. They wanted me to pay around 300.00 for a new kit. When I got home to try the hoist, I found they had taken my old damaged too kit and replaced it with another damaged. tool kit , not useable. I tired to speak to management at Stapp Toyota, no wants to talk about it. Think about all the Tacomas that have the same problems X 300 dollars = a lot of money. This is a scam someone dreamed up and is working quite well.
Driver seat does not hold after setting to correct height. After driving the seat rests to the lower position. Wipers make a tapping noise when in operation at full left wipe. At times blind spot warning engages when surrounding is clear.
2024 new 4th-generation Tacoma Hybrid Limited. During driving in snow or rain, the front chrome grille or another component in the front, appears to collect water. Periodically, it releases a sudden burst of water or snow onto both sides of the windshield. The impact is abrupt, like having a snowball or large splash of water thrown at the glass, and is startling because it’s unexpected. This happens on both the driver and passenger sides, (but not at the same time) temporarily impairing visibility and potentially increasing the risk of an accident. Note: This occurs every time it snows or rains.
Hood shakes / flutters violently at highway speeds. Problem has persisted for the first 10,000 miles of driving and presents a safety hazard from fatigue weakening the hood to the point of failure.
The air bags never deployed after I T boned another tacoma at a speed of about 30 mph. There's was a 2017 that also did not have air bags deployed. Vehicle is waiting to be inspected by the shop.
En un accidente de auto los airbag no me abrieron y el accidente fue perdida total . Segundos antes la transmicion no me cogia los cambios.
My 2024 Tacoma SR5 was stuttering and felt like the wheels are locking up when I accelerate I have to go very slow because when going anything over 30 MPH feels very unsafe and is hard to control and handle it shut off a lot of my systems like crash detection and 2-3 other ones are cut off on my dash it threw a check engine light so going to take it in to Toyota tomorrow to get it looked at I don’t know if I even want this truck anymore.
I am reporting a safety concern related to my Toyota vehicle involving the all-weather floor mat on the driver’s side. I have noticed that the mat consistently becomes caught on top of the clutch pedal when I press the pedal all the way down. This causes the mat to obstruct the pedal’s full range of motion, making it difficult to fully disengage the clutch. As a result, I have to be extremely cautious and pull over to manually adjust the mat whenever this happens, as it poses a potential safety hazard while driving. I have recorded a video showing this issue occurring, but the file size is too large to submit through the NHTSA portal. As an alternative, I have taken a screenshot from the video that clearly shows the mat interfering with the clutch pedal. I am concerned that this issue could lead to an unsafe driving situation, especially in emergency or high-stress driving conditions. I am requesting that this issue be investigated, as it may affect other vehicles with similar all-weather floor mats.
The vehicle has a vibration at speeds in excess of 40mph. The dealer has confirmed that the wheels are balanced and that the truck is in alignment. They have duplicated the issue on my truck and have driven an identical model and experienced the same inherent vibration. There are also mentions of this vibration in Tacoma forums online specific to the TRD Off-road variant
Stopping at a stop light, after coming to a complete stop, vehicle will want to slowly creep forward and you need to press a little harder on the brake pedal. If you don't pay attention, you will creep into the vehicle in front of you. I am in the transmission TSB range.
My new 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro with 2440 miles experienced a transmission failure as I was driving up a mountain highway. I lost most propulsion of the vehicle with no advanced notice. I barely was able to make it to a portion of the road with a shoulder. There was heavy traffic due to the thanksgiving holiday traffic. The error on the Vehicle indicated Hybrid System Failure. In the vehicle information I was able to access additional errors, “A malfunctions in the intelligent Clearance Sonar System has been detected”, and “A malfunction in the Drive Start Control System has been detected”. The vehicle was towed to a local Toyota dealer and the have diagnose that the transmission and a computer need to be replaced. The problem arose suddenly without warning and with out any prior issues.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently drifted to the left and jerked while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the instrument panel was not functioning properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the long block and torque converter had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 188,000.
I bought the truck at 6 pm on [XXX] in Pennsylvania and drove straight home in Brooklyn, when trying to find a parking spot the truck started to act weird(10pm after 190 miles). The rpm was going really high with no power to the wheels and abruptly it seems to find gear and jumped off really fast a couple of times. I was driving in a residential area at low speed and was able to pull over to the curb. I could have hit a pedestrian, another car or lost control pretty badly if I was in a highway. After the initial incident all the lights came off (engine malfunction, brakes malfunction, collision system malfunction and others). The truck was towed and after a long wait, today the 5th of December, it was diagnosed as a transmission problem, Toyota is going order a new transmission and the broken one will be sent to Toyota for further inspection. They want to replace my truck and it seems they are not willing to cancel the deal. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On 11/14/2024 the windshield wipers started malfunctioning on my leased Toyota Tacoma. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. On 11/22/2024 I took the vehicle to Premier Toyota for service. I was told they do not have the parts, that was 9 weeks ago. This vehicle is unsafe with malfunctioning wipers.
The driver's seat will not consistently hold the height, it will drop to the lowest height level on it's own
Since day one vibration and pulsing 30-45MPH. Dealer confirmed vibration and said it common with my vehicle and nothing can be done. Returned to dealer same issue confirmed by tech and service manager and they charged $75 for tire balance at 5,000 miles. Returned next day and drove another identical model and 3 lesser versions of Tacoma’s. They claim they have no fix and suggested I trade it in for a Tundra and take a $10,000 deductions from my sticker price. Now when I stop slowly theres a thump and surge in the drive train like s load shifted in the bed. And intermittently when going from a dead stop the engine rev’s nothing happens for a second and it clunks into gear and shifts harshly. Again claim there’s nothing they can do.
When I was driving my new truck the transmission failed. It would not change gears forward or reverse. The RMP started ramping up in the red. Check engine light on drive start control malfunction. Advanced ultrasonic detecting and ranging system. The led screen was going hoops asking for code and updating while driving day before transmission went. Called dealer. Had the car towed. Later that day was told bye dealer the transmission needs to be replaced. Did research to find out Toyota new theses transmission are faulty and have not recalled. If I where on highway or similar roads I drive daily I would have been hurt. This problem will cause a accident. I am aware the NHTSA has been informed, reached out to Toyota and Toyota has not responded nor have they started a safety recall. My fear is they are waiting for someone to get hurt or killed. My dealer also informed me another customer with a tacoma has been waiting since may 2024 for a transmission.
Speedometer/odometer is incorrect and Toyota manufacturing says it cannot be fixed. Toyota sells this vehicle with two different size tires. The smaller is approximately 30.6 inches high and the larger is 32.61 inches high. Toyota manufacturing sets the odometer and speedometer for the larger tire and says that is the only option. That means that the speedometer is off by 4 miles an hour at 6 4 mph and for every 100 miles shown on the odometer, the truck has only traveled 98 miles. It’s frustrating to recalibrate in your mind. What the speed limit is versus what your truck is actually going, and it also throws off the warranty in Toyota‘s favor.
The air blows hard out of the vents when it's switched over to cold but when you move it over to heat it blows lightly like it's on the lowest fan speed but the fan is blowing on high it sounds like the air flow is being restricted.
When starting from a stop on at a stop light on a steep hill, the truck did not accelerate and started rolling backward almost hitting multiple vehicles. I was able to get it stopped but had to wait to get help to move it off the road before being able to get it moving forward again.
Apple Carplay does not mute music while playing or replying to a text message. The driver has to turn off the audio system to hear the text message and/or reply. This is not an issue with the Apple device, as it works as intended in other vehicles such as a 2020 Hyundai Kona and a 2024 GMC Sierra where it has been tested. This is a safety concern as it is distracting to the driver to have to intervene in order to use the Carplay functionality as it does not work like it is supposed to. It has been tested in both wireless and wired carplay and the issue persists.
Multimedia audio system in Toyota vehicles does not mute music being played when using Car Play to read text messages as it was designed by Apple. This causes the driver to have to mess with the audio button and turn off the music while driving when listening to or replying to a text message. Hands free integration of a cellphone working in a vehicle as designed by the cellphone manufacturer should be required by the vehicle manufacturer if they state it is a feature when purchasing one of their vehicles. Reports to the vehicle manufacture about this flaw have been disregarded and they state it is working as designed. Reports to the cellphone manufacturer state that it is not working as they intend it to, but vehicle manufacturer refuses to fix it.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the gas cap failed to close securely and was loose. Additionally, the contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V058000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and 25V595000 (Electrical System); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the instrument panel was blank at start-up. The contact also stated that the infotainment system screen was blank intermittently while driving, which required the driver to pull over to the side of the road to turn off and restart the vehicle. The dealer was contacted several times for the recall repairs, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by voicemail message. The failure mileage was approximately 80.
●It makes a lot of vibration uphill 25-40mph. ●It feels like hunting gear when itñs shifting to the second gear. ●it got stock in second gear in the middle of the traffic and there was risk because cars where behind me yelling me.
When at stop light transmission would not fully engage and started thru intersection was only going approx 20 mph. Engine went to 3500 rpm before it shifted again. After I arrived at my destination started truck back up again and received warning on dash and check engine light came on. Had check engine and drive control system warning messages. Still had same problem with it at stop lights and transmission seemed to not be shifting properly. Was able to get it to dealer and next day received call from them stating that I needed new transmission.
The driver seat manual height adjustment. When you raise the drivers seat to the maximum height, within 30 minutes of driving, the seat slowly lowers on its own. I would have to give it 2-3 cranks to raise the seat. Overnight, the next morning, without anyone in the seat, it needs 2-3 cranks to raise the seat back to its maximum height. I’m afraid it may get worse in time and might just lower all the way down when driving. This is a daily occurrence.
I purchased the 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro on 9/5/24. On 9/20/24 the Transmission failed with just over 1,000 miles driven on the truck. I was stopped at a traffic light when the problem occurred. Multiple sensor alarms were triggered including Hybrid System Malfunction. I attempted to accelerate when the light changed, but it was very sluggish and felt like it was trying to take off from a high gear. I was less than 1 mile from a Toyota dealership when the malfunction occurred and was able to get the truck to the dealership. After a week of troubleshooting, the dealership informed me that the transmission was stuck in 6th gear due to a solenoid failure and they would need to replace the transmission. The transmission is currently on backorder with an estimated delivery between 10/14 and 10/26. Based on the current estimate, by the time I get the truck back, i will have made two months of lease payments while only having the vehicle in my possession for 2 weeks.
Automatic transmission fault that locked the vehicle in 2nd gear. The vehicle was taken to a local dealership for service, and Toyota refused to replace the transmission and torque converter as per their own repair procedure, claiming it must be replicated in order to authorize the repair. This is an already known fault by Toyota, yet their response was that a dangerous condition has to be duplicated even though vehicle diagnostic codes show that two transmission solenoids were stuck, and even though I provided them photos of the multiple warnings on the driver’s dash from when it occurred. Other vehicles with the same condition have been repaired without question. Vehicle had 1,574 miles on it and 1,579 once I arrived at the dealer.
new 2024 Tacoma sport. approx. 3800 miles. While driving automatic transmission revved hi, like it was in neutral. Lost power, went into limp mode. Multiple warnings on dash. Had truck towed to dealer. Next day they said transmission needed replaced. metal filings found inside transmission. Not sure how long it would be to repair. The dealership was very kind and sorry this happened. I told them it's not there fault, it's toyota
Purchased Truck with 127 Miles, at 327 miles noticed it wasn't shifting. Took truck back to Toyota and they stated there were metal shavings in the transmission and it needed to be replaced. They also stated they have no idea when they would be able to get a transmission.
The automatic will get stuck in a high gear, making it impossible to accelerate. I was almost hit trying to merge into traffic with the Transmission failing. Going from reverse to drive, the vehicle will "Buck", lurching forward. When at a red light, if the auto start/stop function kicks in, the car will also lurch into gear moving forward.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Transmission, and yes its available for inspection. When I put the truck into drive from park, and even reverse, the truck would jerk. (I have videos) When accelerating around 13-14mph, I could feel the transmission "gear searching" with rough shifting. When decelerating around 15-17mph, the transmission would down shift too early, producing the feeling of engine breaking, and again rough shifting. When I needed to really go, I experienced "transmission lag" where the engine would be working, reving up, the feeling of engaging the clutch (coasting feeling), then after a moment the gear would catch and the truck would finally take off. I took the truck to a dealership to have it checked out, but the technicians said they couldn't reproduce this issue. I called corporate and they sent me to another dealership. This dealership said the same thing, BUT went the next step and pulled some transmission fluid and found metal shavings. They had the truck for almost 3 weeks and replaced the transmission and torque converter. When I went to pick up the truck I put the truck into drive and felt the jerk I experienced before. I put it into reverse then drive, and again the whole truck jerks. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he can have the foreman look at it the next day. I made him get in the truck with me and showed him the truck jerking when placed into drive. Next day, foreman said there was nothing wrong and performed the same as a new truck on the lot. I spoke to a higher manager and he recommended I bring the truck in for the regional Field Technician. The Field Technician reviewed the vehicle and determined there was nothing wrong and it was performing the same as 3 new trucks on the lot.
While driving on the highway A hybrid System Malfunction occurred, which caused the vehicle to be thrown into 2nd gear. Took the vehicle to dealership and they determined that the transmission had failed. The vehicle was only 1 week only and only had 822 miles on it.
While driving I received numerous system malfunction warnings followed by a message to visit my dealership. While driving into the dealership the vehicle started losing power and engine went into complete failure. It is now at dealership and waiting for it to be inspected. When alerts first went off I was unable to stop because I was on a busy dangerous street.
Engine is noisy during take off sounds like a rod knock the truck has 5k miles on it.
