BOUGHT 2008 TUNDRA IN 2015. BODY EXCELLENT SHAPE. HAD 46000 MILES ON IT. BLOWED A BRAKE LINE AND PUT ON RACK TO MAKE REPAIRS THIS PAST MONTH. BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND FRAME IS ROTTEN. I CAN RUN MY FINGER THROUGH THE FRAME. I PAID 25.000.00 FOR THIS TRUCK. WAS TOWING A CAMPER WHEN BRAKE LINE BLEW. WAS HARDLY ABLE TO GET CAMPER HOME. WILL YOU FOLKS REPLACE THIS FRAME? OR WILL YOU STAND GOOD FOR IT. I STILL OWE ON IT. IT IS PARKED FOR THE TIME BEING AND NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.
NHTSA ID #10140591 WAS THE CAMPAIGN THAT MY TRUCK WAS WARRANTIED UNDER, I AM EXACTLY 64 DAYS OUTSIDE OF TOYOTA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY AND MY TRUCK STARTED THROWING CODE P2442 BANK 2 SECONDARY AIR INJECTOR VALVE STAYING OPEN, A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS TRUCK. I ASKED TOYOTA ONLY FOR ASSISTANCE AND NOT THE COMPLETE REPAIR AND 3 REPS FLAT OUT SAID NO WE DID OUR PART. THE CAR WAS FINE YESTERDAY AND TODAY STARTED IT TO GO TO WORK AND MY TRACTION CONTROL, 4LO, VSC, ENGINE LIGHT WERE ALL ON, MY TRUCK WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" TOYOTA USA WAS USELESS.
TUNDRA WON'T ACCELERATE AS ENGINE GOES INTO LIMP MODE WHICH RESTRICTS SPEED CAPABILITY OF VEHICLE. THIS IS RELATED TO AIR INJECTION PUMP FAILURE AND RELATED ALSO TO AIR SWITCHING VALVES. LIMP MODE ON A TOYOTA RESTRICTS SPEED AT WHICH YOU CAN DRIVE, SHIFTING AND TOP SPEED ARE RESTRICTED. SLOWS TO POINT IF ENTERING HIGHWAY OR TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH SPEED OVER 50 MPH COULD NOT DO IT. TOYOTA IS AWARE AND HAS A CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM ZTQ BUYING VEHICLE USED NOT AWARE OF THIS OR ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I SLOWED TRAFFIC AND CAUSED BACK UP ON THE STREET WAS TRAVELING COULD NIT DO MORE THAN 20-30 MPH ON ROAD POSTED AT 50 MPH. GLAD NOT ENTERING FREEWAY. PLENTY OF U TUBE VIDEOS DETAILING REPAIR AND PROBLEM. THE TOYOTA DOCUMENTATION SAYS 477,000 TUNDRA VEHICLES WERE COVERED BY THIS ENHANCED WARRANTY PROGRAM. PREVIOUS OWNER DID COMPLAIN TO TOYOTA AND HAD COMPUTER REPLACED ON VEHICLE.
FRAME MOUNT FOR GAS TANK HAS RUSTED AND FUEL TANK IS DROPPING DOWN. LAST YEAR AN UNDERCOATING WAS APPLIED BY A TOYOTA DEALER AND IS PEELING OFF IN CERTAIN AREAS. I BELIEVE PURSUANT TO THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REFERRED TO AS BRIAN WARNER ET AL TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION MY VEHICLE MAY BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE GAS TANK STRAP MOUNTING IS PART OF THE FRAME. AS OF NOW, MY MECHANIC ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE IT AS IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I NOTICED THE TANK STRAP WAS HANGING DOWN FROM THE FRAME AND THE GAS TANK WAS ALSO HANGING DOWN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY.
I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE $3500 TO REPAIR. THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TUNDRA. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT TOYOTA HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS BUT IT EXPIRED AFTER 10 YEARS OR 150,000, I HAVE 121,000. WHEN THE PUMP FAILS IT CAUSES THE VEHICAL TO GO INTO LIMP MODE. I RAN A ERRAND TODAY AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE. I WENT TO THE STORE AND RETURNED TO THE TRUCK. I STARTED IT AND THE THE VSC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AS I HEADED INTO TRAFFIC THE VEHICAL WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO KEEP UP WITH THE TRAFFIC AND ALMOST GOT REARENDED. TOYOTA SHOULD OF HAD A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY FEATURE AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS AIR PUMP IS INSTALLED ON TUNDRAS AND OTHER MODELS. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN 2008 AND HAVE SERVICED IT ON THE MFG SCHEDULE. SINCE THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE PUMPS DURING REGULAR MAINTENANCE INSTEAD OF NOT DOING NOTHING AND HOPE IT DOES NOT OCCUR. EVEN IF I REPLACE THE PUMPS WHAT SAYS IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I LOST CONFIDENCE IN MY TRUCK AND AM AFRAID IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN.
I HAD LIFTED THE BED LINER ON MY TUNDRA AND FOUND THE BED TO BODY MOUNT AREA RUSTED THROUGH WITH HOLES IN IT. THERE IS A TECH BULLETIN FOR THE EXACT ITEM BUT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. IT HAS A HOLE IN THE BED NOW. IF I HAD LIFTED IT YEARS BEFORE I FEEL THE RUST WOULD HAVE BEEN SEEN AND IT TAKEN CARE OF. TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING FOR IT NOW. I HAVE NEVER HAD A TRUCK RUST THRU SO FAST.
HEATER BLEND DOORS MALFUNCTION AND ACCORDING TO 2 DEALERSHIPS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THAT TOYOTA IS NO ADDRESSING. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE HEATER BLEND DOORS NOT WORKING AND BREAKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON CAUSES IMMEDIATE DANGER TO OPERATOR PASSENGERS AND OTHER VECHICLES AND OTHER PEDESTRIANS. WINDOWS FROST UP, STEAM UP WHICH CAUSES THE DRIVER NOT TO BE TO SEE AND BEAWARE OF THE SURROUNDINGS. I WAS ON A SIDE STREET IN MY TOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ATKINSON TOYOTA SOUTH DALLAS (LOCATED AT 39660 LYNDON B JOHNSON FWY, DALLAS, TX 75237, (972) 780-1166) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR VALVE AND THE AIR INDUCTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE WAS EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER OPENED CASE NUMBER: 1809192901. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,404.
BOTH HEADLAMPS HAVE BEEN MELTED BY THE TURN SIGNAL/DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP. IVE HAD TO REPLACE THE LAMPS WITH LED BULBS BUT THE LAMP IS STILL BURNED/MELTED. ALSO THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT HAS DEVELOPED SPACE THAT IS UNSECURE . IT WIGGLES BACK AND FORTH UNSURE IF THIS IS STRESS OR WEAR.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CODES INDICATED FAILED SECONDARY AIR INTAKE VALVE. TOOK IT TO DEALER WHO SAID I WAS ONE DAY OUTSIDE OF EXTENDED WARRANTY. NO WARNING OF ANY CONSEQUENCES OF NOT IMMEDIATELY ADDRESSING. DRIVING HOME ON INTERSTATE TRUCK TRUCK SUDDENLY HAD SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS START TO FLASH AND WOULD NOT ACCELLERATE ABOVE 35. I WAS TRAPPED IN SUBSTANTIAL TRUCK TRAFFIC WITH NOWHERE TO PULL OFF AND COULDN'T EVEN CLIMB HILLS WITHOUT POWER DECREASING FURTHER. FOUND OUT THIS INTENTIONAL. TRUCK WAS PUT IN "LIMP" MODE BY PROGRAMMING. TO RESTRICT SPEED AND ACCELLERATION WITHOUT WARNING FOR A NONESSENTIAL FAULT WHICH IS NOT A THREAT TO ENGINE OPERATION IS INSANE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO AN ELK. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (FINDLAY TOYOTA FLAGSTAFF, 5030 E MARKETPLACE DR., FLAGSTAFF, AZ, (888) 736-7324) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAGS NEEDED TO BE TESTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT LOCKING MECHANISM MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO UNLATCH THE SEAT BELT WHEN THE RELEASE BUTTON WAS DEPRESSED. THE DRIVER HAD TO MANEUVER HIMSELF UNDER THE SEAT BELT IN ORDER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE LOCAL DEALER (SEWELL TOYOTA, 2213 OLD JACKSBORO HWY, WICHITA FALLS, TX) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
MY TAILGATE LATCH BROKE ON ME AGAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT IT HAPPENED IN TWO YEARS. I WAS JUST GOING TO LET MY TAILGATE DOWN AND THE LATCH BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
CODE P2442 CAME UP ON MY TRUCK. THIS CODE INDICATES THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMPS AND VALVES ARE GOING BAD ON MY TRUCK. ALSO CAUSES THE TRUCK TO GO INTO LIMP MODE RESULTING IN SEVERE LOSS OF POWER WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS IN THE WRONG SITUATION. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM IF YOUR TRUCK HAS OVER 150000MI OR 10 YEARS SINCE FIRST USE. THIS AFFECTS ALL TUNDRA AND IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS ISSUE TWICE, SO THEY KNOW THIS SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES.

VIBRATION AT 70,000 MILES IN FRONT AND REAR OF VEHICLE. CHECKED OUT ONLINE. SEEMS PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BEARINGS IN TOYOTA TUNDRA'S AT RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE . TOOK TO MECHANIC. BEARINGS NEED REPLACED IN FRONT RIGHT AND REAR WHEEL HUBS. 70,000 MILES, WOW. MECHANIC WAS FLABBERGASTED TOO. LITTLE EARLY FOR BEARING REPLACEMENT . WITH THE FRAME ALREADY UNDER RECALL. MAKES YOU WONDER WHO WENT CHEAP WITH BEARING'S TOO. I BOUGHT TOYOTA IN THINKING THINGS LIKE THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN. MY 1996 NISSAN FRAME LOOKS BETTER THEN THE FRAME ON MY TRUCK. TOYOTA INSPECTED FRAME . TOLD ME IT LOOKED BETTER THAN MOST . BOLTS THAT HOLD BED ON UNDER MY BED LINER ARE ALREADY RUSTED, AS WELL AS THE BED BODY AND FRAME .TOLD ME IT DOESN'T MEET REPLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS . SO NOW I'M WAITING FOR THEM TO SPRAY UNDERNEATH BODY. SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IN PRODUCTION . I DON'T SEE HOW THAT FIXES A PROBLEM . IF DONE CORRECTLY AND PREPPED BEFORE SPRAYING MAYBE. NEED TO REPLACE ALL FRAMES NOT COATED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

TAKATA RECALL. EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASH COME ON AN THE ENG. TRY TO QUIT . IT STARED ON JAN. 23 2018. ON US 119.I WASH IT ION THE WHEEL THE FINSH CAME OFF . THEBED IS RUSHING ON THE IN SIDE AT THE BOLTS.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO OTHER CARS AROUND AND MY SUNROOF SHATTERED ON ME RAINING GLASS DOWN ON THE INSIDE OF MY TRUCK. I CALLED A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE ME AND THAT A ROCK MUST HAVE HIT IT. THEY OFFERED ME NO HELP WHATSOEVER.
ON 01-08-2018 I HAD A MVA IN WHICH THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE AND MY AIR BAG WAS DEPLOYED. AS YOU MAY JUDGE FROM THE PICTURE THE IMPACT WAS MINIMAL. THE OTHER VEHICLE, A 2003 HONDA CIVIC, WAS DRIVABLE, WHILE MY MUCH BIGGER TRUCK WAS NOT DUE TO MY CONDITION AND THE DEPLOYED AIR BAG. I WAS KNOCK OUT APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 7 MINUTES, I MADE THIS ESTIMATE BY THE ARRIVAL OF WINTER PARK PD. I ALSO SUFFERED TWO FRACTURED RIBS ON MY RIGHT ARM PIT AREA AND ONE ON MY LEFT ARM PIT AREA, THIS WAS ACCORDING TO THE ER DOCTOR AND A FRACTURE OF MY L5 VERTEBRAE ACCORDING TO MY MRI REPORT. FOUR HERNIATED DISC AND SIX BULGING. IT IS MY SINCERE BELIEVE THAT SOME IF NOT ALL THIS PERSONAL INJURIES I SUFFERED WERE RELATED TO AN OVER PRESSURED AIR BAG SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MY TRUCK, I FEEL A NEED TO REGISTER MY COMPLAINT. AS NOTED ON MY PD REPORT I HAD JUST INITIATED A U-TURN SO I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN TRAVELING MORE THAN 15 MPH ON LEE RD. (A PAVED CITY STREET). SEE ALSO ODI 11287678. *DSY

I AM OF THE OPINION THAT MY AIRBAG WAS OVER PRESSURIZED THEREBY KNOCKING ME OUT FOR ABOUT 10 TO 12 MINUTES AND CAUSING ME SERIOUS BODILY INJURIES, I.E. SEVERAL BULGING AND HERNIATED DISC, A FRACTURE L5, AND HAIR LINE FRACTURE OF RIBS. IT'S BEEN ALMOST 2 YRS. AND I'M STILL SUFFERING FROM NECK AND BACK PAIN AND I HAVE HAD A BACK OPERATION TO REPAIR MY L5.
ALSO MY 08 TUNDRA JUST LIKE MY 03 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS THE PAINT COMING OFF THE HOOD AND VERY TOP OF TRUCK INCLUDING CHIPPING AND PAIN COMING OFF AND CLEAR COAT, HAS TO BE BAD PAINT THERE USING.

THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN FOUR MANUFACTURER RECALLS AND THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE FAILURES WERE RELATED TO THE RECALLS. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO PEDERSEN TOYOTA (4455 S COLLEGE AVE, FORT COLLINS, CO 80525, (970) 372-4185) TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AND COMPLETE THE RECALL REPAIRS FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 12V491000 (VISIBILITY), 11V148000 (TIRES), 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL), AND 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,900. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA EQUIPPED WITH PIRELLI SCORPION TIRES, SIZE: 275/65/R18 (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE OUTSIDE TIRE WALL WAS DAMAGED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH THE SPARE. APPROXIMATELY 30 DAYS BEFORE, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES. THE AFTERMARKET TIRES (SET OF 4) WERE INSTALLED BY THE DEALER (DELLA TOYOTA IN PLATTSBURGH, NEW YORK) ON MARCH 21, 2016. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 181,000. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 209,000.
THE BRAKE PEDAL FEELS "SOFT" WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. PEDAL TRAVELS FARTHER THAN USUAL, MUST STEP DOWN HARD FOR BRAKES TO FULLY ENGAGE - NO AIR IN BRAKE LINES - BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR IS FULL - ALL BRAKE PADS/SHOES W/90% LIFE REMAINING. C1336 CODE KEEPS COMING UP REFERRING TO "ZERO POINT" CALIBRATION, AND ABS PUMP. CONDITION IS PRESENT DURING ALL TYPES OF DRIVING - CITY - HIGHWAY - TURNING - BACKING. SYMPTOMS STARTED IN EARLY SEPTEMBER 2017.
AIR INJECTION PUMPS STOPPED WORKING AND I CANNOT ACCELERATE FAST ENOUGH TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE RAMP WITH 50% OR MORE REDUCTION IN POWER AND IT'S CREATED A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP US? TOYOTA DEALER SAYS IT'S $1,400 PLUS TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP WE CANNOT AFFORD THIS REPAIR AND WE HAVE BEEN A VERY LOYAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SINCE 1981. TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND VEHICLE LOSE OF POWER. DASHBOARD ALL WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN TO FLASH. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD. TURNED OFF VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO RESET. MANAGED TO GET VEHICLE TO NEARBY PARKING LOT AND OUT OF TRAFFIC. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER TO DRIVE TRAIN. CAUSE WAS POWER STEERING UNIT SENSOR PER TOYOTA. TOYOTA COVERED PART IN ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THIS COMPLAINT. FROM INTERNET, "SOME 2007-2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE POWER STEERING DTCS P0552 AND/OR P0553. THE POWER STEERING SENSOR HAS SINCE BEEN CHANGED TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION. THE OLD/PREVIOUS POWER STEERING SENSOR IS P/N 89448-34010. THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH SENSOR P/N 89448-34020. USING TIS TECHSTREAM, CONFIRM THE CONDITION BY CHECKING FOR DTCS P0552 AND/OR P-553. DISCONNECT THE PRESSURE SENSOR CONNECTOR AND PROCEED WITH REMOVING THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH, WHICH IS LOCATED AT THE POWER STEERING VANE PUMP AND IS MOUNTED TO THE HIGH PRESSURE FEED LINE. INSTALL THE NEW POWER STEERING PRESSURE SENSOR, TIGHTENING TO 15.2 FT.-LBS. (20.6 NM). WITH THE NEW SENSOR FULLY INSTALLED AND CONNECTED, START THE ENGINE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS. ADJUST POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL AS NEEDED."
ON JUNE 13TH. MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA INEXPLICABLY COUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH AND THE LEFT FRONT DOOR. THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING, IDLE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON THE WINDOWS WERE UP. I HAD BOTH OF MY SMALL DOGS INSIDE. I WAS NOT IN THE TRUCK . THAT DAY WAS CLEAR SKY AND STARTING TO GET HOT FOR THE DOGS . I ALWAYS LEAVE THE TRUCK RUNNING WITH AC ON FOR THEM. I WAS BUSY WORKING ON A 2000 HINO MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK. MY TRUCK WAS PARKED NEXT TO THE HINO . I WAS IN THE HINO. MY CLIENT ALERTED ME OF SMOKE COMING OUT OF MY CAB. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR ALL I SAW WAS SMOKE AND ONE OF MY DOGS WAS BARKING THE OTHER I HAD TO GO IN TO FIND. HE WAS ALIVE BUT NOT BARKING. I REMOVED BOTH DOGS THE FIRE HAD MELTED MY DASH ON THE LEFT SIDE THERE WAS NOT ANY FLAMES ON DASH JUST SMOKE THE ONLY FLAMES WHERE ON MY JACKET THAT I HAD LEFT ON THE FLOOR DRIVER SIDE FRONT. I PULLED MY JACKET OUT THROUGH ONTO GROUND . MY CLIENT THAN TOLD ME TO USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO BE SAFE. I DID . THATS IT I DIDNT CALL FIRE DEPARTMENT . THE FIRE WAS OVER BUT IT CAUSED ALLOT OF DAMAGE. I DON'T UNDERSTSND HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN. I FIRST TRIED TO GET SOMEONE TO INSPECT IT BEFORE I TOOK TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT TRUCK NEW. COULD NOT FIND ONE IN AREA. I TOOK TO DEALER ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN IT SO THEY DIRECTED ME TO TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS ON JULY 31ST. NOW TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS HAS NOT TOLD ME WHAT CAUSED THIS FIRE I'M ASSUMING THEY ARE STILL INVESTIGATING IT. CAN YOU PLEASE COME AND LOOK AT MY TRUCK I DID TAKE SOME PICTURES IF YOU WOULD LIKE. THE BED OF MY TRUCK IS RUSTING OUT IN THE AREA WHERE THE HOLD-DOWN BOLTS ARE. BEFORE LONG HALF OR MORE OF THE BOLTS WILL BE USELESS AND THE BED COULD COME OFF. NOTHING ELSE ON THE TRUCK BODY IS RUSTY AT ALL. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT AND IT NEGATIVELY EFFECTS THE SAFETY OF MY TRUCK. ABNORMAL NOISE AND VIBRATION IN RIGHT REAR WHEEL AS VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. TOYOTA DEALER IDENTIFIED RIGHT WHEEL BEARING AS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED IN MAY 2017. DEALERSHIP HAD PROBLEMS REPLACING BEARING AND ALSO CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE TO SEE IF REPAIR COULD BE COVERED-TOYOTA REFUSED TO COVER THE ISSUE. THE REPLACED BEARING FAILED AGAIN IN JUNE 2017 WITH A CLICKING SOUND WHICH INCREASED WITH SPEED. DEALERSHIP IS REPLACING RIGHT REAR BEARING UNDER THEIR WARRANTY. I REPORTED PROBLEMS TO TOYOTA CONSUMER ADVOCATE WHO ADVISED ME THAT THERE IS NO RECOURSE OR ESCALATION SINCE THEY HAD NO RECALLS, SERVICE BULLETINS OR WARRANTY COVERAGE DOCUMENTED. I PROVIDED NHTSA COMPLAINTS AND EVENTUALLY I LOCATED TSB T-SB-0151-10 TO TOYOTA CORP. MY CONCERN IS THAT A BEARING FAILURE CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL OR WHEEL SEPARATION FROM THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NO ASSURANCE FROM EITHER TOYOTA OR THE TOYOTA DEALER THAT THE REMAINING 3 BEARINGS ARE FREE OF THE SAME DEFECT OR THAT THE NEW REPLACEMENT WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. WEB SEARCHES HAVE INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY OTHER PARTIES AND GENERALLY UNSUPPORTED BY TOYOTA.

THE FAILURE CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO ERRONEOUSLY DOWNSHIFT AND THE VEHICLE JERKED AND HESITATED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL WHEN I START THEN GOES AWAY. NOW AT 55 MPH ANTI SLIP LIGHT FLASHES, WHILE IT FLASHED I LOSE ENGINE POWER UNTIL I LET OFF GAS SOON AS I LET OFF GAS POWER COMES BACK FOR A FEW SECONDS AND IT REPEATS UNTIL I TRAVEL AT LOWER SPEED TOOK TO DEALER NO CODES. WE BOUGHT THE TRUNK BRAND NEW IN 2008 AND WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR TWICE. ONCE IN 2012 AND NOW IN 2017. SEEMS THE ALTERNATOR ONLY LASTS 4 YEARS BEFORE GIVING OUT. ALSO, THE POWER LOCKS STOPPED WORKING IN 2013.

I'M WRITING REGARDING MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND A RECENT REAR AXLE WHEEL BEARINGS FAILURE. THE TRUCK ITSELF IS IN METICULOUS CONDITION AND ONLY HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT. THE REASON FOR THE NOTE IS THAT I'VE SEEN ARTICLES INDICATING THERE HAS BEEN ISSUES AS WELL AS LOCATED A RELATED TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETINS. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THE BEARINGS THAT WERE INSTALLED WERE UPGRADED BEARINGS. TYPICALLY I WOULDN'T THINK TWICE, BUT KNOWING THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS THE OTHER INFORMATION WE HAVE FOUND, I'M CURIOUS IF NHTSA HAS DONE ANY INVESTIGATION OR HAS ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IT CAN SHARE? IT IS RUNNING AND SIDE MARKER LIGHTS ARE LIT. I GO LOOK, OPEN THE DRIVERS DOOR TO SEE IF ANYBODY IS IN IT, NOPE, NOT A SOUL. IT'S IN PARK, THE 4 WD LO ALARM IS BEEPING, THE 4LO LED IS LIT ON THE DASH, HOWEVER, THE SWITCH/KNOB IS STILL ON THE 2WD MODE POSITION. I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE MOTOR CUTS OFF. SO THE REMOTE START SAFETY FEATURES WERE WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE PHOTOS AND A VIDEO (DAY AFTER) SHOWING WHERE THE TRUCK LANDED AND THE PATH IT TRAVELED. I DO NOT HAVE ANY DOCUMENTS YET AS THIS OCCURRED LAST NIGHT. DEALERSHIP HAS THE TRUCK AND WILL BE EVALUATING THE REAR END AND DRIVE SHAFT, BUT INSURANCE WILL NOT PAY FOR INSPECTION OF THE TRANSMISSION. CAUSE OF ACCIDENT IS UNKNOWN, BUT SPECULATE SOMETHING IN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE PARKED.

WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED IN FEBRUARY, 2012 WITH 33,000 MILES ON IT. A BULLETIN CAME OUT IN JUNE, 2010 (#T-SB-0151-10) ABOUT REAR WHEEL BEARINGS GOING ON 2007-2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND THE REPLACEMENT KIT. WE WERE NOT TOLD ABOUT THIS WHEN BOUGHT FROM DEALERSHIP. WE NOW HAVE 92,000 MILES ON IT AND HOWLING HAS STARTED IN THE BACK END AND DEALERSHIP SAID IT IS THE WHEEL BEARINGS--KNOWN ISSUE BUT STILL HAVE TO PAY OVER $1600 TO GET THEM REPLACED. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE NO HELP AT ALL SAYING OUT OF WARRANTY AT 36,000 MILES/3 YEARS EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THE WHEEL BEARS WERE JUNK AND THEY UPGRADED THE BEARING KIT WAY BACK IN 2010. WHEEL BEARINGS ARE A SAFETY ISSUE THE WHEEL CAN COME OFF IF NOT REPLACED. NO HELP FROM TOYOTA COMPANY OR DEALERSHIP. CALLED TOYOTA AND CASE #161110029.
TOYOTA DEALERSHIP INSPECTION REPORTED ON 10/05/16 THAT ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY FAILED. MILEAGE 122,482. DISABILING, ABS BRAKE, SPEEDOMETER,ODOMETER, CRUISE CONTROL,AND DISPLAYING ENGINE CHECK LIGHTS FOR ABS. THIS OCCURRED ONE DAY AFTER REPLACING WATER PUMP, WATER HOSES, SERPENTINE BELT, AND FLUIDS ASSOCIATED WITH SERVICE. COST ESTIMATE $2642.78. STARTED ENGINE AND ENGINE INDICATOR LIGHTS SHOWED ENGINE CHECK AND ABS MALFUNCTION STARTED MOVING AND SPEEDOMETER CRUISE CONTROL INOP ALONG WITH ODOMETER.
CRUISE CONTROL RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING. WORKS PERFECTLY FOR A FEW DAYS THEN QUITS. SOMETIMES THE CRUISE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL DOES NOT FUNCTION. THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE STEERING COLUMN. SOMETIMES WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED LOCK TO LOCK THE CRUISE CONTROL THEN OPERATES NORMALLY. LOCAL MECHANIC SAYS THIS MAY BE THE "CLOCK GEAR" WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE.
TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES A PROBLEM WITH THEIR AIR INTAKE VALVE AND HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THE WARRANTY IS TOO SHORT, TOO LITTLE MILES, AND ONLY COVERS THE REPAIR ONE TIME. MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM FOR THE 3RD TIME EVEN THOUGH THEY CLAIM THAT THEIR REPAIR FIXED THE PROBLEM THE FIRST TIME, AND CLAIMS NO ONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM A SECOND TIME (ALTHOUGH I HAVE).

SO LONG STORY SHORT MY 2008 DOUBLE CAB 6.5 FOOT BED WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE FACTORY OR DEALER (IN MID 2009) INSTALLED PLASTIC BED LINER RUBBING THE PAINT OFF IN THE BED AND DISCOLORATION OF THE BACK BUMPER OR DELAMINATION AS TOYOTA CALLED IT. TOYOTA REPLACED THE BUMPER FREE OF CHARGE DUE TO THE CORROSION WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP NOT UNDERCOATING THE BACK OF THE BUMPER, GREAT NO PROBLEM THERE. BUT NEVER IN ANY OF THE RECORDS DID THE SERVICE REP RECORD THAT THE BED COULD CORRODE! LATER TO FIND OUT WHEN TAKING THE TRUCK TO GET A SPRAY IN LINER I DROPPED IT OFF IN AUGUST OF 2016 LATER TO GET A CALL SAYING I SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT MY BED BEFORE THEY DID ANY WORK TO FIND A HOLE ROTTEN THROUGH THE BED AN PAINT THAT WAS BUBBLED, CRACKED AND FLACKING OFF. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE TO FIND A TSB FOR MY EXACT PROBLEM. ITS TSB-0101-12, I NEVER GOT WORD OF THIS TILL I DUG ONLINE TO FIND THIS! I TOOK THE TRUCK TO TOYOTA TO BE TOLD THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WARRANTY. SO I CONTACTED THE NORTH EAST REGIONAL CLAIMS MANAGER TO BE TOLD THAT SINCE THERE WAS NO RECORD OF THIS COMPLAINT DURING THE WARRANTEE PERIOD THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. WOULD ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE ON WHERE TO TURN I MIGHT TRADE THE TRUCK IN TO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE THE BED

TRUCK BED RUSTING FROM UNDER THE BED FORCING THE METAL UP, BUBBELING, AND NOW THE BED IS RUSTING THROUGH. RUST EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE SERVICE BULLITEN T-TCI-3823, JULY 30, 2012, TRUCK BED FLOOR RUST/CORROSION. .HOPEFULLY THE TRUCK BED WON'T FALL OFF BECAUSE OF THIS, LOOKS VERY BAD.
THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AND AN ENGINE CODE OF P2440 WAS READ. P2440 INDICATED THAT THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM SWITCHING VALVE BANK 1 WAS STUCK OPEN. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF THIS REPAIR.
CODE 2440. CONTROL VALVE STUCK IN AIR INJECTION PUMP. FAILED FOR THE 2ND TIME UPON STARTUP. FIRST FAILED AT 68K MILES EARLY 2013. TOYOTA REPLACED IT FOR FREE. THEY'VE HAD SO MANY FAIL THAT THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YR, 150K MILES. THEN IT JUST FAILED AGAIN AT 154K MILES. THEY WON'T WARRANTY THE 2ND ONE BECAUSE IT'S 4K MILES OUT. EVEN THOUGH THE PART ONLY HAS 86K MILES ON IT. COST IS $2100 FROM THE DEALER! 1200 OF THAT IS JUST THE PARTS. FROM WHAT I'VE READ THIS PART IS ONLY REQUIRED FOR THE FIRST COUPLE MINUTES OF OPERATION ON A COLD START. IT PREHEATS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER SO IT WORKS BETTER. THE EPA SHOULD BE EXEMPTING MINOR DISCREPENCIES IN THEIR EMISSIONS LAWS WHILE WORKING WITH MANUFACTURERS TO DEVELOP SENSIBLE SOLUTIONS. IN THE MEANTIME WE GET STUCK WITH COMPANIES THAT DO A SHODDY JOB DESIGNING THE SYSTEM, PLACE IT IN A TERRIBLE LOCATION REQUIRING MANY HOURS TO DO THE REPLACEMENT, AND THEN ARE BOUND BY LAW (IN MY STATE) TO MAINTAIN THE EQUIPMENT. THE TRUCK IS IN LIMP MODE AND IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.....GUESS I HAVE TO SHELL OUT THE CASH. AFTER READING HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON MULTIPLE TRUCK FORUMS AND EXPERIENCING THE PART TO FAIL TWICE FIRSTHAND, IT'S OBVIOUS THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. THE CSR FROM TOYOTA ACTED LIKE THEY DID ME A FAVOR BY "VOLUNTARILY" EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 150K MILES. NO COMPANY "VOLUNTARILY" DOES THIS. I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO CONSIDER HAVING THEM ISSUE A PROPER RECALL, EXEMPTING THE AFFECTED MAKE/MODEL YEARS FROM EMISSIONS STANDARDS FOR A FAILED SYSTEM WHICH WOULD ALLOW OWNERS TO BYPASS THE SYSTEM LEGALLY FOR ABOUT $150 IN PARTS (HARNESS & VALVE PORT BLOCKING PLATES), OR PRESSURING TOYOTA TO EXTEND WARRANTY COVERAGE TO THE PART (NOT THE TRUCK) IF IT FAILS IN THE SAME WAY. A $2000+ FIX ON A NON-ESSENTIAL COMPONENT SHOULD NOT BE A 75K MILE RECURRING COST.

MY VIN FALLS INTO THE CATEGORY BUT IT FALLS PAST THE 60 MONTH/UNLIMITED MILES CORROSION WARRANTY. I KEEP MY TRUCK IMMACULATE AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED....HENCE THE BED LINER. IF I WOULD HAVE TREATED MY TRUCK DIFFERENTLY AND NOT PROTECTED THE BED WITH THE BED LINER, I WOULD HAVE DISCOVERED THE RUST SOONER AND PROBABLY BEEN COVERED. PENALIZED FOR TAKING CARE OF MY TRUCK. THE LOCAL DEALER TRIED VERY HARD TO GET TOYOTA TO COVER THE REPAIR BUT THE TOYOTA REPS WOULD ONLY OFFER $2000 TOWARD A POTENTIAL $13000 REPAIR. I HAVE BEEN A TOYOTA CUSTOMER SINCE 1990 AND I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH TOYOTA. THIS ISSUE HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH CUSTOMER NEGLECT...IT'S NEGLECT BY TOYOTA WHO WILL NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT. AS FAR AS THIS BEING A SAFETY ISSUE, THE RUST IS CONCENTRATED WHERE THE BED IS CONNECTED TO THE FRAME. IF I DID NOT DISCOVER THIS, IT COULD POTENTIALLY SEPARATE FROM THE TRUCK FRAME WHILE DRIVING/HAULING A HEAVY LOAD AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. TOYOTA DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THAT APPARENTLY.
