REVERSE WARNING SENSORS THAT ALERT YOU THAT YOU ARE CLOSE TO AN OBJECT, SOUND WHEN THEY GET WET EVEN THOUGH NO OBJECT IS NEARBY. THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY RAIN, CAR WASH, OR SIMPLY DRIVING ON WET ROAD AFTER A RAIN. I HAD ONE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW ANOTHER IS FAILING AND MY TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS CAN PRESENT A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT OWNERS WOULD BE USED TO THE SENSORS GOING OFF IN THESE CONDITIONS THAT THEY WILL DISMISS IT WHEN POSSIBLY A REAL OBJECT, HUMAN OR ANIMAL IS PRESENT THUS CAUSING THE "CRYING WOLF" SYNDROME AND POSSIBLE INJURY. *TR
2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, I HAD A AIR INDUCTION VALVE FAIL ALL OF A SUDDEN WHICH CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY STALL INTO LIMP MODE. I KNOW THIS PART HAS TO DO WITH EMISSIONS BUT HOW IT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RESPOND WHEN IT FAILED IF VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THIS SUDDEN SWITCH TO LIMP MODE CAUSED ME TO BASICALLY LOOSE CONTROL FOR A FEW SECONDS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DROPPED TO ABOUT 35 MPH WITH NO CONTROL . TRAFFIC WAS SWERVING AROUND ME AND HONKING THEIR HORNS AS MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY DROPPED FROM 65 MPH TO 35 MPH. I UNDERSTAND PARTS WILL FAIL PERIODICALLY BUT THE WAY THE VEHICLE SWITCHES TO LIMP MODE WHEN THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM OCCURS NEEDS TO BE REDEVELOPED AND FIXED OR SOME SERIOUS ACCIDENTS ARE GOING TO BE THE RESULT. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A MORE THAN COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH TOYOTA TUNDRAS IN THE 2007 AND 2008 YEARS. THANKS FOR YOU ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO LIMP MODE. HE EXPERIENCED A BRIEF LOST OF POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LOW LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED TWO AIR INJECTION SWITCH VALVES IN APRIL 2010. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN ON JANUARY 31, 2011 AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO CLEARED THE CODE. ON FEBRUARY 12, 2011 THE FAILURE RECURRED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT TWO AIR INJECTION SWITCH VALVES AND TWO AIR PUMPS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION WHEN THE COMPLAINT ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT HAD AUTHORIZED THE REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL GEAR TO STOP THE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN RECALL 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ACCELERATOR PEDAL) AND REPAIRED ACCORDINGLY PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,600. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,500.
I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH APPROX 48,000 MILES. THE TRUCK IS "LIMPING" AROUND WITH NO POWER. I CANNOT DRIVE IT ON THE INTERSTATE AS IT WILL NOT GO OVER 45 OR 50 MPH. IT WILL NOT ACCELERATE COMFORTABLY EITHER, SERVICE INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE ON. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHO SAID THAT IT NEEDS $3300 WORTH OF REPAIRS. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED DUE TO THE COST. THEY TELL ME IT IS THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM AND THAT I NEED TO HAVE 2 PUMPS AND CONTROL VALVES REPLACED. THE COMPUTER CODE IT READS IS "P2442". THERE IS A TSB ON THIS ERROR (0329-08). AFTER RESEARCHING THESE PART NUMBERS (17610-0S010 (2 OF THESE) AND 25701-38060), THERE SEEMS TO BE MANY CONSUMERS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM I HAVE. THERE ALSO SEEMS TO BE A QUESTION OF THIS BEING A DESIGN OR ENGINEERING FAILURE OF THESE PARTS. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THIS SYSTEM FAILURE IS PART OF THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM AND HAS NO EFFECT ON THE WAY THE TRUCK RUNS EXCEPT IT THROWS THE TRUCK INTO "LIMP" MODE UNTIL IT IS RESOLVED. I WAS ABLE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AT FIRST TO RESET THE COMPUTER AND MY TRUCK WAS RUNNING FINE. NOW, HOWEVER, THIS WILL NOT ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM AND I AM RUNNING AROUND IN WHAT I FEEL IS AND UNSAFE VEHICLE DUE TO FACT THAT IT WILL NOT ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN PROPER SPEED FOR VARIOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER RECEIVED THE FLOOR MAT RECALL AND STICKING GAS PEDAL RECALL. *KB THE CONSUMER FELT HE WAS NOT BEING KEPT ABREAST ABOUT THE RECALLS IN A TIMELY MANNER.
TOYOTA RECALL NOTICE FOR ACCELERATOR PEDAL. NOT SURE WHAT IS DETERMINED TO BE A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE TOYOTA DEALER TO SCHEDULE REPAIRS. MY EXPERIENCE, TODAY(3-22-10) I CALLED FOR AN APPOINTMENT, AN WAS GIVEN A DATE FOR THREE WEEKS LATER(4-9-10). IF THIS COULD BE LIFE THREATING DEFECT, I WOULD THINK TOYOTA WOULD HAVE DEALERS ON EXTENDED HOURS AND SATURDAYS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE AMOUNT OF VEHICLES THEY HAVE IN THE RECALL. *DT
SUDDEN ACCELERATION ON MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP, KEPT GETTING FASTER AND FASTER TURNED KEY OFF TO STOP. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY PUT A SHIM ON THE GAS PEDDLE AND THEN TEST DROVE THE TRUCK AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD ONLY NOTE MY ACCOUNT AND WILL NOT INVESTIGATE PROBLEM. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT NO ONE WILL LOOK INTO THE VEHICLE COMPUTER TO SEE WHAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE SO FAST. WHY IT GOT WORSE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES? TOYOTA IS TOTALLY NOT TAKEN THIS SERIOUS AT ALL. *DT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT 10 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SIMULTANEOUSLY FELL ONTO THE FLOORBOARD BUT WAS NOT DEPRESSED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACTS FOOT REMAINED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE ENTIRE TIME. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. HE WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 34,560.
I HAVE A TOYOTA TUNDRA 2008, WILL LEAVING THE BANK, I WAS SLOWLY APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME ALREADY WAITING AT THE STOP SIGN. I TRIED TO STEP ON THE BRAKE, AND THE FLOOR MAT CAME UP OVER THE BRAKE PEDAL, RESTRICTING ME FROM FULLY PRESSING DOWN THE PEDAL. I COULD NOT STOP, I TURNED MY TRUCK TO RUN INTO THE CURB AND NOT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I HIT THE CURB AND RAN UP ON THE SIDE WALK. WHILE MOVING SLOWLY I QUICKLY REMOVED THE MAT FROM OVER THE PEDAL, AND BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. NO ONE WAS INJURED, NO DAMAGE TO ANY PROPERTY. NOW I HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA TODAY COINCIDENTLY ASKING ME TO TURN IN MY TRUCK FOR RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE DUELER A/T 693 TIRES, TIRE SIZE, P255-70-R18. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES EXHIBITED A CRACKING IN THE SIDEWALLS AND TREAD. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED AND OFFERED TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TIRES AT A PRORATED PRICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,730. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES HAS BEEN RESOLVED. UPDATED 05/25/10.
TOOK VEHICLE TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON 3-1-10 FOR ACCELERATOR RECALL REPAIR. ON 3-13-10, DURING NORMAL OPERATION, SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD CAME ON AND SOME WERE FLASHING AS FOLLOWS: VSC OFF-FLASHING, SLIP INDICATOR-STEADY ON, 4HI-FLASHING, 4 LO-FLASHING, ABS-STEADY ON. I STOPPED VEHICLE AND TURNED IGNITION OFF. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, ALL WARNING LIGHTS WERE OFF AND STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER THE SAME CONDITION OCCURRED, SAME WARNING LIGHTS. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS CONDITION AND TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. OVER THE NEXT TWO DAYS THE SAME CONDITION SEEMED TO RECUR EVERY TIME I DROVE THE VEHICLE. ON 3-15-10 THE DEALERSHIP PICKED UP MY VEHICLE FOR REPAIR. THEY RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME THE SAME DAY AND TOLD ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT AS THEY HAD TO ORDER PARTS (RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR) AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN TO SCHEDULE REPAIR. OVER THE NEXT 9 DAYS (WAITING FOR PARTS), CONDITION SEEMED YET EVEN WORSE, UNEVEN "JERKY" ACCELERATION, UNEXPECTED ABS ACTIVATION AND/OR BRAKING. INERMITTANTLY THERE WOULD SOMETIMES BE WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A GRINDING AND/OR CLUNKING NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT COULD BE COMING FROM THE BRAKES AND/OR TRANSMISSION. ON 3-24-10 THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP RECEIVED THE PARTS (RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR) AND INSTALLED THE SAME. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. TO DATE (3-31-10) THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP STILL HAS MY VEHICLE, THEY HAVE REPLACED THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, WIRING HARNESS TO THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND STATED TODAY THEY WILL BE REPLACING THE WIRING HARNESS FROM THE ABS MODULATOR TO THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. I ALSO SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP TODAY (3-31-10) AND HE STATED THEY WOULD NOT RETURN MY VEHICLE TO ME UNTIL THE PROBLEMS ARE REPAIRED AS IT IS A "SAFETY HAZARD".
I WAS AT THE WALMART IN BOLIVAR, MO 6:30 PM ON MARCH 4TH. GOT IN MY TUNDRA PUT IT IN REVERSE, BACKED UP AND PUT IT IN DRIVE. AS I PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GO FORWARD SLOWLY THE TRUCK ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND TURNED LEFT TO AVOID HITTING A CAR AND HIT A YELLOW CONCRETE POST WHILE THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO GO FORWARD ABOUT 20 FEET. I THEN PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND FINALLY GOT IT TO STOP. I THEN TRIED TO OPEN MY DOOR AND IT WOULD NOT OPEN. I WENT AHEAD AND DROVE HOME ABOUT 3 MILES AND PARKED THE TRUCK. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY THAT NIGHT TO REPORT THE ACCIDENT AND LEFT A MESSAGE. I CALLED THEM AGAIN THE MORNING OF MARCH 5TH, 2010 AND GAVE THEM THE DETAILS. A CLAIMS ADJUSTER HAS ASSESSED THE DAMAGE ON THE BODY OF THE TRUCK BUT THOSE REPAIRS HAVE NOT YET BEEN COMPLETED. ON MARCH 11TH, 2010 I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM TOYOTA ON THE TRUCK FOR A ACCELERATOR PEDAL REINFORCEMENT BAR INSTALLATION. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT SAME DAY TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT GET ME IN UNTIL APRIL. WHEN I TOLD THEM ABOUT THE ACCIDENT THEY CHANGE MY SCHEDULED TIME TO THAT SAME DAY, MARCH 11TH AT 6:00 PM. I DROVE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INSTALLED AN ACCELERATOR PEDAL REINFORCEMENT BAR. I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE ACCELERATOR STUCK. I HAVE A FLAWLESS DRIVING RECORD AND CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE A VERY CAREFUL DRIVER. I AM CONFIDENT THIS WAS NOT A DRIVER ERROR. I WAS IN A BUSY WALMART PARKING LOT DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE ENTRANCE OF THE STORE SO I WAS NATURALLY BEING CAUTIOUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH UTILIZING THE CRUISE CONTROL, HE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN WHAT WAS EXHIBITED ON THE SPEEDOMETER. PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE REPAIRS WERE MADE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 09V388000 AND 10V017000, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 11000.
2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER STATES FLOOR MAT ISSUES INTERFERING WITH THE OPERATION OF THE ACCELERATOR AND SLOW SHIFTING PROBLEMS*TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE PURCHASED A FULL SET OF ALL WEATHER MATS FROM THE DEALER DESIGNED FOR HIS TRUCK AND THE MAT STILL DID NOT PREVENT THE PEDAL FROM BECOMING TRAPPED UNDER THE MAT. THE RADIO WAS REPLACED DUE TO AN INTERNAL SHORT. *JB
THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT. WHEN I GOT IN TO GO TO WORK IN THE MORNING SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE SLIP, BRAKE, 4X4 HI AND LO, VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL, AND LSD LIGHTS STAYED ON UNTIL I STOPPED AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE THE LIGHTS WERE OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SIX TIMES IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. TWO OTHER TIMES THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON AND STAYED ON UNTIL I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ACCELERATION ISSUE. ON TWO OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING ON A DRY ROAD THE TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGED AND TOOK THE POWER OUT OF THE VEHICLE. ON BOTH OCCASION WAS DRIVING IN TOWN AT LESS THAN 30 MPH. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAULT. *TR
I HAVE 2008 TUNDRA THAT WAS RECALLED FOR 'ACCELERATION PROBLEMS' AND OSTENSIBLY FIXED, ALTHOUGH I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED "ANY" PROBLEMS. NOW THAT IS HAS "BEEN FIXED" I DO HAVE A PROBLEM. FROM A STAND-STILL POSITION, I WILL DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENS. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ACCELERATOR WILL ENGAGE CAUSING MY TRUCK TO, ALL OF A SUDDEN, JUMP (ACCELERATE). IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME....BUT I'M AFRAID THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AT A STOP LIGHT WHERE I WISH TO BEGIN FORWARD - NO RESULTS AND THEN A POSSIBLE SURGE WHERE I COULD POSSIBLE HIT A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 09V388000: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO HIS DEALER FOR REPAIRS. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, HE HEARD A LOUD REVVING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND A SECOND APPOINTMENT WAS MADE WITH THE DEALER FOR FURTHER ASSESSMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,000.
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) SUBJECT: UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION EVENT WITH 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA, [XXX] , FOLLOWING RECALL TO INSERT ACCELERATOR PEDAL SHIM THE PURPOSE OF THIS LETTER IS TO DOCUMENT AND INFORM YOU OF AN 'UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION' EVENT THAT I EXPERIENCED WITH MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA ON THE AFTERNOON OF FEBRUARY 27, 2010. THE EVENT WAS EXPERIENCED WITHIN 10 MINUTES/3.5 MILES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP FOLLOWING DEALER-SERVICE WORK THAT INCLUDED, AMONG OTHER ITEMS, IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TOYOTA RECALL TO INSERT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SHIM (SSC). THIS IS THE ONLY SUCH EVENT EXPERIENCED TO DATE WITH THIS TRUCK. THE EVENT WITH THE VEHICLE PARKED AND THE ENGINE IDLING NORMALLY (APPROXIMATELY 800 RPM), I PLACED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN PREPARATION OF SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION FROM PARK TO DRIVE. MY FOOT WAS WELL CENTERED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOT IN CONTACT AT ALL WITH THE THROTTLE PEDAL. THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN ENGINE SPEED AT THIS POINT. I THEN SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION FROM PARK TO DRIVE. AS SOON AS THE DRIVE POSITION WAS ENGAGED, WITH MY FOOT UNCHANGED FROM ITS FIRM POSITION ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE SPEED IMMEDIATELY WENT TO FULL THROTTLE. AS I HEARD THE ENGINE SPEED UP, I APPLIED FULL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE TO HOLD THE VEHICLE IN ITS STATIONARY POSITION. THE REAR WHEELS BROKE LOOSE FROM THE PAVEMENT AND BEGAN SPINNING; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE REMAINED STATIONARY, HELD BY THE BRAKING OF THE FRONT WHEELS. PROBLEM DETERMINED TO BE "BANK 2 VALVE STUCK OPEN FOR SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM" ON MY VEHICLE. TRUCK HAS ENTERED IN AND OUT OF LIMP MODE CONSISTENTLY FOR UP TO A WEEK AT A TIME SINCE ISSUE SURFACED. SOMEONE FROM TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS THAT WAS VISITING MY DEALERSHIP PERSONALLY INVESTIGATED MY 2008 TUNDRA'S SPEED SENSOR WIRES WHICH ON ONE SIDE HAD COMPLETELY FAILED (SNAPPED COMPLETELY THROUGH) AND WAS FAILING ON THE OTHER SIDE (PARTIALLY BROKEN THROUGH) AT THE SAME SPOT. TOYOTA CHOSE TO REPAIR BOTH BUT RATHER CLASSIFIED THE REPAIRS AS A 'COURTESY REPLACEMENT' VERSUS UNDER THE VEHICLES WARRANTY. THIS I HAVE A STRONG BELIEF WAS DONE TO KEEP IT OFF THE BOOKS BACK AT HEADQUARTERS AND UNDER WRAPS. THIS HAPPENED IN JAN OF 2010. NOTE: AT FIRST GLANCE A TORN OR SPLIT WIRE MAY APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY ROAD DEBRIS OR IN THE CASE OF A VEHICLE CRASH IF WIRE ALREADY WAS EXHIBITED PROBLEMS MAY BE THOUGHT TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY AN IMPACT IF DISCOVERED AFTER AN IMPACT. MY TRUCK DOES HAVE THE CLIPS TO HOLD THE MAT IN PLACE AND PREVENTS THE ACCELERATION PEDAL FROM GETTING LODGED WITH THE MAT. I DO BELIEVE THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY AN UNKNOWN DEFECT AND NOT THE FLOOR MAT. CURRENTLY, THE FLOOR MAT REMAINS IN PLACE ON ITS CLIPS WITHOUT INTERFERENCE TO THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. SHE CRASHED INTO A CONSTRUCTION BARRIER THAT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE DRIVER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS ACCELERATED PREVIOUSLY A FEW TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,030. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,000.

THERE IS A STEERING PROBLEM ON MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 DOUBLE CAB. WHEN DRIVING ON A NORMALLY CROWNED( OR SLOPED) ROAD SURFACE, THE TRUCK WILL PULL TO THE RIGHT ON THE RIGHT LANE, OR TO THE LEFT ON THE LEFT LANE. THE LOCAL DEALER HAS MADE MULTIPLE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT, HAS ROTATED TIRES, EVEN SWAPPED TIRES FROM ANOTHER TRUCK. THE PULLING PROBLEM PERSISTS. TOYOTA DISTRICT PARTS & SERVICE MANAGER INSISTS THAT MY TRUCK "IS OPERATING NORMALLY". I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO 2 LOCAL INDEPENDENT ALIGNMENT SHOPS RUN BY LONG-TIME EXPERIENCED MECHANICS. THEY BOTH FELT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE RACK-AND-PINION STEERING UNIT. I HAVE TRIED REPEATEDLY TO GET TOYOTA TO REPLACE THE RACK-AND PINION, THEY HAVE REFUSED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 50-55 MPH; PROCEEDING TO MAKE A TURN. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING ,PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CONTINUED ACCELERATING FOR A DISTANCE OF OF 15 MILES. THE SPEED RATE INCREASED TO 90 MPH. THE DRIVER NOTIFIED AND REPORTED THE FAILURE TO THE POLICE WHILE THE FAILURE WAS OCCURRING. THERE WERE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. AN INVESTIGATION WILL BE PERFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

ENGINE TURNS OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND THEN STARTS UP AT FULL THROTTLE. ALL THE LIGHTS ARE FLASHING ON THE DASH INCLUDING THE 4 LO LIGHT. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE SINCE THE TRUCK HAD 10K ON IT AND NOW IT HAS 42K ON IT. *TR
THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED AFTER 16,800 MILES ON MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE VEHICLE WAS OUTFITTED WITH A FIFTH WHEEL HITCH AND FACTORY TOWING PACKAGE. IT WAS USED SEVEN TIMES TO TOW A HEARTLAND RV FOE APPROXIMATELY 4K MILES. THE TRAILER WEIGHT AND TONGUE LOAD COMPLIED WITH THE SPECS. IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. ALL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED UNDER THE TOYOTA WARRANTY. THE DEALER COMMENTED THAT FIFTH WHEEL TOWING IS PROHIBITED ON THE 2010 MODEL WHICH HAS THE SAME REAR END. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS DRIVING 5 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR A WEEK AT A TIME, THEN IT WOULD GO OFF FOR A COUPLE DAYS, THEN BACK ON 3 MORE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR TESTING. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE COMPUTER WAS NOT SHOWING A CODE SO THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,5000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HESITATE DURING TAKE OFF AS WELL AS DURING COLD TEMPERATURES AND THE ENGINE MADE A RATTLE SOUND. THE RADIO WOULD COME ON AND CHANGE STATIONS BY ITSELF. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK EVEN BEFORE A RECALL WAS ISSUED. THE BLOWER MOTOR DID NOT ALWAYS WORK PROPERLY, THE RE-CIRCULATOR WOULD SHUT OFF BY ITSELF EVEN IF THE BUTTON WAS HELD DOWN FOR 3 SECONDS. UPDATED 04/20/10
