TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA EQUIPPED WITH PIRELLI SCORPION TIRES, SIZE: 275/65/R18 (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE OUTSIDE TIRE WALL WAS DAMAGED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH THE SPARE. APPROXIMATELY 30 DAYS BEFORE, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES. THE AFTERMARKET TIRES (SET OF 4) WERE INSTALLED BY THE DEALER (DELLA TOYOTA IN PLATTSBURGH, NEW YORK) ON MARCH 21, 2016. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 181,000. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 209,000.
TRUCK STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD ROARING NOISE AT SPEED 50 MPH AND OVER. THE RIGHT WHEEL BEARING AND HUB ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACEMENT. TOYOTA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON BOTH WHEEL BEARINGS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. VEHICLE HAD LESS THEN 30,000 MILES ON IT.

THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN AS TO WHETHER THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE WHEN THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED THEY WOULD NOT INFORM HIM. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS DISPLEASED WITH THE RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER CONCERNING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE BALD DUE TO AN IMPROPER WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN SINCE THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE ORIGINAL TIRES. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE OUTER EDGE FOR HIS TIRE LINE AND WAS CONCERNED SINCE THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT PROVIDED A REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

WHILE DRIVING A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA EQUIPPED WITH BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T BL P255 25570R18 TIRES I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING RENTED FROM ENTERPRISE RENT A CAR AT THE TIME. I WAS DRIVING 50 MPH ON STRAIGHT LEVEL PAVEMENT. THE TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE MID-30S. THE PAVEMENT WAS BARE AND DRY. I DID NOT STRIKE ANY OBJECT IN THE ROAD. I EXPERIENCED GREAT DIFFICULTY STEERING THE VEHICLE, SO I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED, BRAKED AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE, AND WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE SAFELY TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. UPON EXAMINING THE TIRE, I OBSERVED THE OUTSIDE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE WAS SPLIT OPEN FROM NEAR THE BEAD TO ALMOST THE TREAD LINE, A GASH OF SEVERAL INCHES IN LENGTH. AS THE VEHICLE WAS A RENTAL, I WAS DIRECTED TO TAKE IT TO THE FIRESTONE STORE AT 202 SOUTH 1ST STREET, YAKIMA, WA 98901-2804 (509) 457-6191 WHERE THE TIRE WAS REPORTEDLY REPLACED. I WAS GIVEN A NEW RENTAL VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THIS WAS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AS I DID NOT STRIKE ANY OBJECT IN THE ROADWAY WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS FAILURE TO OCCUR. *TR
TOYOTA IS PUTTING BF GOODRICH RUGGED TRAIL T/A TIRES ON THEIR 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA CREWMAX TRUCKS IN SIZE P275/65R18 BUT ARE USING MICHELIN LTX A/S AS A SPARE IN SIZE P255/70R18. THE MICHELIN IS APPROXIMATELY 3/8" SMALLER IN DIAMETER. I HAVE ASKED FOR A TIRE THAT MATCHES THE OTHERS AS A SPARE BUT THEY REFUSE EVEN THOUGH I BELIEVE IT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE IN INCLEMENT WEATHER. *TR

THE DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, HOWEVER, THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE WASHED TO REMOVE THE MUD AND ICE BEFORE TRAVELING. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE IN THE AREA IN WHICH HE RESIDED AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE.
