LEAF SPRINGS HAVE BROKEN, EACH SPRING HAS A MAN LEAF WITH TWO ADDITIONAL SPRINGS, BOTH ADDITIONAL SPRINGS HAVE BROKEN UNDER NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE, ONLY ONE SPRING REMAINS ON EACH SIDE. THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND UNDRIVABLE, LAST WEEK WHEN I HEARD IT, I THOUGH IT WAS JUST A ROCK KICKING UP UNDER THE FRAME, BUT WHEN I STOPPED TO INVESTIGATE I NOTICED MY TRUCK SITTING LOW TO THE GROUND AND THE SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. IF ONE MORE SPRING ON EITHER SIDE BREAKS, IT COULD PUNCTURE THE FUEL TANK AND WILL PUT THE VEHICLE FRAME ON THE AXLE. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS WOULD CASUE A MAJOR ACCIDENT MOST LIKELY INVOLVING DEATH. I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE TRUCK AT 35 MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED LAST WEEK, THANK GOD IT DIDN'T TURN INTO A FATALITY. I REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION OF THE MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE SPRINGS, THE BROKEN HALFS OF THE SPRINGS STILL REMAIN INTACT AND CAN BE EXAMINED FOR DEFAULT. THE FIRST INCIDENCES HAPPENED IN THE PAST, WHERE I WAS UNABLE TO KNOW HOW AND WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES WERE. THE LAST INCIDENT DID HOWEVER HAPPEN LAST WEEK AND BARE METAL CAN BE SEEN AT THE BREAK IN THE UPLOADED PHOTO. NO WEIGHT WAS IN THE TRUCK AT THE TIME.
I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY DOWN THE ROAD AFTER WORK AND THE VEHICLE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND WOULDN'T GO OVER 40 MPH. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER IN MORRISTOWN, TN. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON A OXYGEN PUMP UP TO 150,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND THAT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS OVER 150,OOO MILES THAT IT WOULDN'T BE COVERED AND IT COST OVER 2,000 TO FIX IT. I WROTE A LETTER TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T COVER IT BECAUSE IT WAS MY FAULT I DIDN'T CHECK FOR RECALLS WHEN I BOUGHT IT USED . THEY NEVER SENT ME A RECALL LETTER ON THIS AT ALL , I HAD BOUGHT IT AT AROUND 126,000 MILES AND RECEIVED NO RECALL LETTERS WHEN IT WOULD OF BEEN COVERED. THIS IS MY COMPLAINT THAT MAYBE YOU CAN HELP ME . I CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX SOMETHING LIKE THIS. I SHOULD OF BEEN NOTIFIED. THEY SAID IT WAS MY FAULT I DIDN'T CHECK FOR RECALLS NOT THEIR PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, A LOUD RATTLING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE LEAD SPRING HAD FRACTURED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE LEANS TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKING TO CORWIN TOYOTA OF FARGO (222 40TH ST S, FARGO, ND 58103, (701) 282-8425) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER ANY RECALL PERTAINING TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
MY TRUCK'S BED HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH IN ONE SPOT. TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A TSB FOR THIS (TSB-0101-12) BUT REFUSES TO COMPLY. THEY CLAIM THAT MY TRUCK'S VIN DOES NOT FOLLOW IN THE RECOGNIZED RANGE AND THAT THE RUST WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS 6.5 YEARS OLD. IT TOOK SO LONG BECAUSE THERE IS A SPRAY-IN BEDLINER THAT COVERED THE DAMAGE. THIS OCCURS FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK AND PERFORATES COMPLETELY THROUGH. TOYOTA'S SOLUTION IS TO DEAL WITH IT. MY CLAIM WAS DENIED AND IN THEIR OWN WORDS: 'THE DECISION HAS BEEN REVIEWED AND WILL NOT CHANGE.' SO MUCH FOR EVER BUYING ANOTHER TOYOTA AGAIN.
MY TUNDRA HAS 48048 MILES ON IT. I TOOK MY TUNDRA IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A OIL LEAK IN THE CAM TOWER. THE COST TO FIX IT WAS $2850. IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I DID A LITTLE SEARCHING AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS OCCURRED FREQUENTLY IN THIS ENGINE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD, AFTER THEY CONSULTED WITH THE DEALER, THAT THE PROBLEM WASN'T A DEFECT, BUT CAUSED BY ENGINE WEAR AND ALTITUDE. THEY OFFERED TO PAY FOR PARTS, WHICH WERE $420. IF IT IS REALLY ENGINE WEAR, I EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN. IN TALKING TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THIS IS A ONE TIME FIX, AND IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT HERE. EITHER IT IS A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE AND THIS REPAIR WILL FIX IT. OR IT IS NORMAL WEAR AND THIS WILL KEEP HAPPENING. I FEEL THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA SHOULD FIX, SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING FREQUENTLY. MANY PEOPLE REPORTED IT HAPPENING WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. MINE JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE OCCURRED AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. EITHER WAY, IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO HAVE THIS HAPPENING IN THIS ENGINE WITH LOW MILEAGE. APPARENTLY THE OIL LEAKS DOWN FROM THE ENGINE ONTO THE EXHAUST PART OF THE VEHICLE AND CAN CAUSE FIRES. IT ALSO CAN LEAK OUT AND CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE IF THE OIL GETS TOO LOW. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME.
THE PASSENGER REAR LEAF SPRING BROKE, AND I BELIEVE COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD ON THE ROAD OR INTO THE TIRE OF THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED IT VIA NOISE, AND TOOK ACTION BEFORE ANYTHING BAD HAPPENED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE HEARD IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE GREW LOUDER WHEN THE BRAKES OR ACCELERATOR PEDALS WERE DEPRESSED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR DRIVE TRAIN FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE TWO MANUFACTURER TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS REGARDING THE ISSUE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. TURNED LEFT AT A GREEN LIGHT THEN TRUCK SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH COMING TO A SCHOOL ZONE WITH LIGHTS FLASHING AND BUSY ROAD AHEAD I SEEN PARKED BMW. THE TRUCK WAS NEW TO ME AND HAD SLAP SHIFTER SO WHEN I MOVED IT FOR NEUTRAL IT HAD TO BE PUSHED OVER AND UP. I JUST WENT OVER AND WITH LITTLE TIME AND BUSY INTERSECTION AND CHILDREN. I PICKED THE BMW THOUGHT GOOD CRASH RATING. SLAMMED THE OVER BMW AND KEPT GOING TIL STRUCK A POWER POLE BREAKING IT. THERE WAS WITNESS BEHIND ME STATED 'I WAS DRIVING NORMAL THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND VIER LEFT.' I HIT THE BMW SQUARE WITH MY ARMS PROTECTING MY FACE WHICH IS EVIDENT FROM PICTURES.
I BOUGHT A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA NEW. I RECENTLY NOTICED SIGNIFICANT RUST IN THE BED OF MY TRUCK. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THE RUST IS ALSO IN THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE CASES OF TOYOTA TRUCKS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS AND CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS FILED AGAINST TOYOTA FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. HOWEVER MY MODEL AND YEAR ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THESE. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID YES THIS IS A PROBLEM WE KNOW ABOUT HOWEVER YOURE OUT OF THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD AND WE WILL NOT COVER THE DAMAGE. THE PROBLEM WITH THE WARRANTY PERIOD IS THAT THE START OF THE ISSUE IS COMPLETELY HIDDEN AND THERE'S NO WAY TO KNOW YOU HAVE A PROBLEM UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE AND YOU'RE OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK IS QUITE RUSTED AND WILL CAUSE SAFETY ISSUES IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THERE ARE TWO DISTINCT RUST SPOTS IN THE BED WHERE THE FRAME ATTACHES TO IT. THE ONE SPOT WHICH IS WORSE ACTUALLY HAS A HOLE IN THE METAL BOTTOM OF THE BED. I CAN'T GET PICTURES OF THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK BUT I DID INCLUDE PICTURES OF THE TWO RUST SPOTS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BED. THE TWO SPOTS ARE LOCATED TOWARD THE CAB AND ARE IN THE SAME SPOT OF THE BED BUT ON OPPOSITE SIDES. I LIVE IN A VERY DRY CLIMATE SO FLOODING AND HUMIDITY ARE NOT THE CAUSE OF THIS RUST. YOU CAN TELL FROM THE LOCATION OF THE SPOTS THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT.
WHILE TURNING, YOU HIT A HARD SPOT EVERY HALF TURN. WHEN TURNING FROM AN INTERSECTION THE STEERING WHEEL HAS TO BE TURNED BACK TO THE CENTER POSITION DUE TO A HARD SPOT . DEALER STATS RACK IS BAD BUT CAN OFFER NO REASON AS TO WHY. VEHICLES HAS 70,000 AND HAD NOT HAD ANY EVENTS WITH TEH FRONT WHEELS TO CAUSE ANY DAMAGE TO STEERING.
FRAME IS RUSTING. REAR BUMPER HAS HOLES THROUGH IT. TRUCK ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT.
PWMS ASSEMBLY RECALL. DEALER REQUIRED INSPECTION FIRST THEN ORDERED PARTS AND WOULD TAKE SEVERAL DAYS TO OBTAIN. HAD TO MAKE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO HAVE WORK PERFORMED. THIS REQUIRES TWO DAYS TO TAKE OFF FOR SERVICE TO BE PERFORMED. DEALER IS TOYOTA OF JOHNSON CITY (TN).
MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO DISPLAY THE VSC (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL) LIGHT, CONSTANTLY ON, LAST WEEK WHEN I TURNED IT ON. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT ALSO BECAME CONSTANTLY ON. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS GIVING THE FOLLOWING CODES: C1203 - ECM COMMUNICATION CIRCUIT C1232 - DECELERATION SENSOR C1336 - ZERO POINT CALIBRATION OF DECELERATION SENSOR UNDONE THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE GOING TO TRY TO RE-FLASH THE COMPUTER AND CALIBRATE AFFECTED ITEMS BUT IF IT WASN'T POSSIBLE THAT THE SENSOR ASSEMBLY, YAW SENSOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT, TOTALING $1305. 2 HOURS LATER HE CALLED ME BACK TO TELL ME THAT THEY COULDN'T RE-FLASH THE COMPUTER AND THAT THE ISSUE IS NOT THE SENSOR ASSEMBLY, YAW SENSOR BUT THE ABS ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY, TOTALING OVER $2700. I'M REPORTING THIS SINCE I'VE SEEN A BUNCH OF SIMILAR CASES BUT NOTHING CONCRETE FROM TOYOTA. I REALLY DON'T KNOW IF THIS ISSUE IS UN-SAFE OR NOT SINCE THERE ARE NO PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS EXCEPT NOT HAVING ABS NOR TRACTION CONTROL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE DRIVE SHAFT SEPARATED AND FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
MY DOOR LOCKS ARE FAILING. I HAVE HAD ALL THE MECHANISMS THAT LOCK AND UNLOCK MY DOORS REPLACED IN 6/2014. I HAD THE DRIVERS DOOR MECHANISM REPLACED A SECOND TIME IN 5/2015. NOW, THE DRIVER DOOR MECHANISM IS FAILING. IF IT IS LOCKED, I CANNOT UNLOCK; IF IT IS UNLOCKED, I CANNOT LOCK IT VIA "ELECTRICAL" FUNCTION. IE: KEY FOB OR DOOR SWITCH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR OCCUPANTS WHEN NEEDING TO ENTER THE VEHICLE IF IN UNSAFE AREAS. THE INABILITY TO LOCK THE DOORS WHEN SOMEONE EXITS AND LEAVES A LOVE ONE INSIDE CREATES AN ISSUE. WE ALL TELL OUR LOVE ONES, "LOCK THE DOORS UNTIL I RETURN" WHEN WE MAKE A QUICK RUN INTO A STORE, ETC. THIS HAPPENED TO ME AND MY WIFE JUST THE OTHER DAY. SCARRY!!!

THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THE RECALL WAS NOT ABLE TO BE SERVICE DUE TO THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL MODULE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,214. UPDATED 04/06/16*LJ *CN
THE GAS GAUGE IS NO LONGER GIVING ACCURATE READINGS OF HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE GAS TANK. THE GAS WAS AT 1/4 OF A TANK AND WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT IT COMPLETELY DIED ON ME. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER THE AAA GUY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE THE FUEL PUMP MIGHT HAVE GONE OUT. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID HE JUST FIXED THE SAME PROBLEM BUT ON A TOYOTA SEQUOIA WHICH IT ENDED UP BEING THE GAS GAUGE NOT READING HOW MUCH GAS IS ACTUALLY IN THE TANK. AFTER INSPECTION OF MY TRUCK HE SAID THAT THE GAS GAUGE WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE THE TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAD THAT HE FIXED . MY TRUCK IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT, IT SHOULDN'T BE GIVING ME THESE PROBLEMS ALREADY.
I BOUGHT MY 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA BRAND NEW IN FEB. 2010, DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AT TOYOTA DEALER RECENTLY, ENGINE OIL LEAKING WAS NOTICED BY THE TECHNICIAN. THE REPAIR WAS DONE TO RESEAL BOTH CAM BOX HOUSINGS AND REPLACED SEALS AND GASKETS THAT ARE RELATED. IT COSTED OVER $1800. UNFORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE JUST PASSED THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, SINCE IT HAS BEEN 5 YEAR AND 11 MONTHS, BUT THE MILEAGE IS AT 38,000, RELATED LOW. I HAVE CONTACED TOYOTA US HEADQUARTER, TOLD THEM THE OIL LEAKING MOST LIKELY STARTED BEFORE 5 YEARS MARK, BUT IT WAS JUST DISCOVERED NOW. THEY REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE REPAIR COST. THE DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN MANY TUNDRA HAD THIS OIL LEAK ISSUE, AND MOST OF THEM WERE WITHIN WARRANTY, SO THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE SO FAR, I ALSO DID RESEARCH ON INTERNET, FOUND OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS OIL LEAK ISSUE FOR THEIR 2010 TUNDRA AND 2011 TUNDRA. I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS WIDE SPREAD ISSUE AND HOPEFULLY LET TOYOTA DO A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT!

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V689000 (VISIBILITY) AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECTION.
FLOOR VENTS FOR THE HVAC JUST STOPPED WORKING. NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO HEAT GOING TO THE FRONT FLOOR VENTS. TRIED ALL THE OTHER VENT SETTINGS AND THEY ALL WORK FINE AS WELL AS THE AUTO SETTING, NOT A GOOD THING TO BE DOING WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND WINTER ROAD CONDITIONS. THE DEALER LOOKED AT THE PROBLEM AND REPAIRS START AT 500.00 # 87106D JUST FOR THE ACTUATORS TO BE REPLACED. IT COULD ALSO BE THE WHOLE HVAC UNIT # 87050, 2100.00. CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WILL NOT RESPOND TO THE ISSUE. CASE # 1511280769 IF THE WINDOW DEFROST VENTS FAIL IT WOULD BE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN COLD TEMPS.
I WAS PULLING OUT ON ROAD WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TRUCK LIT UP AND COULD BARELY GET THE TRUCK TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY FROM BEING REAR ENDED. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA, SAID MY AIP PUMP IS BAD, 2150.00 TO FIX, TOYOTA SHOULD REPAIR FOR FREE BEFORE I DIE DRIVING IT
TRUCK NEEDS ITS 3RD SET OF TIRES AT 50K MILES - ALWAYS WEAR ON OUTSIDE MOST SEVERELY BUT ACROSS AS WELL - BRIDGESTONE DUELERS (ON NEW TRUCK FROM DEALER) - REPLACED BY FIRESTONE SET THAT WORE THE SAME - ROTATED, BALANCED AND ALIGNMENT CHECKED ON-SCHEDULE AND NO ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS NOTED - BY 10K TIRES LOOK LIKE THEY NEED CHANGED
THE TRUCK TAILGATE WAS NOTICED TO HAVE PAINT BUBBLING TOWARD THE BOTTOM ON THE TAILGATE. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWS MODERATE RUST ON THE INNER LIP OF THE BOTTOM OF THE TAILGATE WHERE TWO PANELS COME TOGETHER, AND IS NOTICABLE WHEN IT IS IN A LOWERED POSITION. AFTER CALLING TOYOTA CORPORATE NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND NOTIFYING THEM OF THE ISSUE, I WAS ASKED IF RUST WAS ON THE FRAME. FURTHER MORE, I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO PROGRAM THEY HAVE TO HELP WITH SUCH AN ISSUE. I HAD NOT HAD THE ABILITY TO INSPECT THE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE AT THE TIME OF THE CALL, BUT UPON ENDING OF THE CALL, WAS ABLE TO HAVE A LOOK AT IT. THERE IS CONSIDERABLE RUST ON SEEMS OF THE FRAME WELDS THROUGHOUT THE BOTTOM AND OTHER AREAS.
IN SEPT. 2014 TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, U.S.A., INC. VOLUNTARY RECALLED 2005-2011 TACOMA 4X4 AND TACOMA PRE-RUNNER PICKUP TRUCKS FOR LEAF SPRINGS THAT COULD FRACTURE DUE TO STRESS AND CORROSION. IN THE MIDDLE OF JULY 2015 THE DRIVER SIDE LEAF SPRING IN OUR 2010 TUNDRA FRACTURED RESULTING IN $1,611.41 IN REPAIRS. DUE TO THE DEFECT OUR MECHANIC RECOMMENDED BOTH LEAF SPRINGS TO BE REPLACED AS THERE WOULD BE UNEVEN STABILITY AND THE REMAINING LEAF SPRING COULD FRACTURE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

DROVE TRUCK TO GO FISHING ON 05/30/2015 GOT HOME AT 9.30 PM ON 5/31/2015 GOT IN TRUCK NO POWER STEERING RACK PINION WAS LEAKING FLUID ALL NIGHT SO PUMP WAS DRY LOOKED UP ON INTERNET FOUND THAT TOYOTA IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH RACK PINION GOING OUT ON LIFTED TRUCKS I BOUGHT MY TRUCK WITH A DEALER LIFT INSTALLED NOW IS COSTING ALMOST A $1000.00 TO FIX I AM DOING MYSELF BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARRANTY TOYOTA SAYS NOT THERE PROBLEM I AM JUST GLAD IT DID NOT HAPPEN AS I WAS PULLING MY BOAT HOME WOULD HAVE CAUSED A BIG ACCIDENT
JUST RECENTLY I HAVE NOTICED A VERY WEIRD SOUND FROM THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL AREA. I HAD THE LOCAL DEALER IN TWIN FALLS IDAHO LOOK INTO AND FOUND NOTHING, THEY SAID BRAKES WERE GOOD, AND THEY HAD GREASED EVERYTHING. SO AFTER MY SERVICE I FIGURED IT WOULD GO AWAY AND IT DIDN'T. I'VE ALSO PUT NEW TIRES ON FOR THE WINTER SINCE THIS WEIRD RUBBING SOUND HAS STARTED AND IT'S STILL MAKING THE SOUND. I'M NOT SURE IF JUST THE SERVICE GUY KNOWS WHAT HE IS LOOKING FOR, BUT THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING NOT RIGHT WITH THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL AREA. I'M NOT SURE WHAT ELSE I CAN DO OR SHOULD DO. THE TRUCK CURRENTLY HAS 51000 MILES ON IT. *TR
DRIVE SHAFT FAILURE. CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. *TR
THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT THE RIGHT LIGHT BULB KEEPS GOING ON AND OFF UNEXPECTEDLY. IN ADDITION, THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR HAS LOTS OF RUST, THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY.
I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED, AND I BARELY MANAGED TO GET MY TRUCK TO THE TOYOTA OF DALLAS DEALERSHIP, WHERE I HAD BOUGHT MY VEHICLE. THEY FOUND THAT BETWEEN THE VALVE BLOCK AND VALVE THERE WAS A RING THAT HAD COME LOOSE THAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL. WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL I COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING AND THE BRAKE STOPPED FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I AM A SAFE DRIVER AND HAD MAINTAINED A SAFE DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THOSE IN FRONT OF ME AT ALL TIMES, BUT THE SITUATION I WAS IN WAS VERY HAZARDOUS BECAUSE WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO STALL IT MADE IT VERY HARD FOR ME TO MANAGE MY VEHICLE. BECAUSE I FELT THAT THERE WAS NO PARTICULAR REASON FOR THE VALVES TO BE DAMAGED, I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE ENGINE MYSELF AND FOUND THAT THE TOYOTA V8 4.6 LITER ENGINE IS ALSO IN THE LEXUS LS460 AND RX460. THE ENGINE HAS ALREADY BEEN RECALLED BY LEXUS BECAUSE OF ISSUES WITH LOOSE SPRINGS, SO I THINK THE SUDDEN DAMAGE TO MY ENGINE MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE SAME REASON. IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT THE ENGINE IS DEFECTIVE? *TR
I HAVE A 2000 TUNDRA 4 X 4 I WAS DRIVING TO THE STORE WHEN MY RIGHT FRONT BALL JOINTS BROKE AND I SLID ABOUT 40 YARDS THE FRONT TIRE ENDED UP UNDER THE FRONT END DAMAGE TO MY FENDER AND BUMPER AS WELL. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPEN ON THE FWY I WOULD HAD BEEN DEAD. *TR
BODY COMPUTER FAILED DISABLING THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS, TURN SIGNALS, TACH, SPEEDOMETER, AIR BAGS, ABS,STABILITY CONTROL, AND RENDERING THE TRUCK'S CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN-BUS) NETWORK UNUSABLE FOR NORMAL AND EMERGENCY NEEDS. ENGINE WOULD RUN, TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT, BUT THE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE TUNDRA APPEARED TO BE DISABLED ALONG WITH THE FLASHERS, TURN SIGNALS, TACH, AND SPEEDOMETER WHICH WERE INOPERATIVE. I LIVE NEAR HOUSTON AND TOYOTA HAS THIS PART ON BACKORDER NATIONWIDE INDICATING THIS FAILURE MAY BE COMMON WITH THIS AND MAYBE OTHER TUNDRA TRUCKS. WHEN THE BODY COMPUTER FAILS THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE YET IT CAN BE DRIVEN! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE REAR TIRES BEGAN MAKING A GRUNTING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,858.
DURING STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT BOTH LEFT & RIGHT LEAF SPRINGS WERE BROKEN WITH PIECES EASILY REMOVED BY DEALER. DEALER SERVICE PERSON STATED THAT THEY HAVE SEEN A FEW OF THESE COME IN LATELY. I HAVE NOT LOADED THE TRUCK BED AT ALL NOR HAVE I TOWED ANYTHING NEAR CAPACITY. I HAVE A SMALL OUTBOARD BOAT AND HAVE NOT EVEN USED THAT YET THIS YEAR. I DID HAD BANGING NOISE FOR PAST MONTH BUT THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRAILER HITCH. *TR
SERVICE BULLETIN TSB-0148-11 - DRIVE SHAFT THUMPS WHEN LEAVING A FULL STOP- FEELS AS THOUGH YOU WERE HIT FROM BEHIND. WAS TOLD IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE BUT IT'S A DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE FIXED!. PAID GOOD $$$$$ FOR TRUCK AND ISSUES LIKE THIS WILL MAKE ME THINK ABOUT THE NEXT VEHICLE I BUY. *TR
DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT LOCK. JUST UNLOCK. EVEN FROM INSIDE OF THE TRUCK YOU CAN NOT LOCK THEM. IT HAS DONE THIS BEFORE. NOW ITS ALL THE TIME. *TR
VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING IN FREEWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE A/T OIL TEMP LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE STOP RIGHT AWAY. ENGINE AND EVERYTHING STOP WORKING. I THINK THIS IS SERIOUS AND TOO DANGEROUS. HOPE SOMEONE WILL INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE. *TR
A SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF ENGINE RPM WAS EXPERIENCED WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND THE ENGINE IDLING. WITHOUT TOUCHING ACCELERATOR PEDAL, ENGINE RPMS INCREASED TO 3500 TO 4000 FOR 8-10 SECONDS BEFORE RETURNING TO TYPICAL IDLING SPEED ENGINE WOULD NOT SUBSEQUENTLY RESPOND TO DEPRESSION OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL. TOYOTA REPAIR SHOP HAS DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN. ALTHOUGH NOBODY WAS INJURED OR KILLED IN THIS INCIDENT, THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT ANY LESS SERIOUS. PERHAPS SOME DAY, TOYOTA WILL FIX THESE ISSUES PROACTIVELY. *TR
IN SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC, REPETITIVE LIGHT GAS AND LIGHT BRAKING. NOTICED THE BRAKE BECOMING DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. HAD MY LEFT FOOT STATIONARY ON THE FOOT PAD, RIGHT FOOT OVER THE BRAKE WHILE ROLLING FORWARD. STARTED TO DROP MY RIGHT FOOT ON BRAKE AS VEHICLE SLOWED IN FRONT OF ME AND ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY AS IF TO FULL THROTTLE. PRESSED ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD, ENGINE REDLINED AND REAR TIRES STARTED SPINNING. POPPED IT IN NEUTRAL AND WITHIN A SECOND THE ENGINE STOPPED ACCELERATING OUT OF CONTROL. FLOOR MATS WERE NOT INTERFERING WITH ANY PEDALS ON MY IMMEDIATE INSPECTION AFTER INCIDENT. INCIDENT CAUGHT ON DASH/WINDSHIELD CAMERA. *TR
I HEARD METAL RATTLE AS I RODE OVER SEWER COVERS / BUMPS ON THE ROAD. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE LEAF SPRING WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED THROUGH AND BROKEN. I WAS THE ONLY DRIVER OF THE TRUCK & PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW. IT WAS USED AS A PASSENGER VEHICLE AND IT HAD NEVER TOWED MORE THAN A POP-UP CAMPER & IT HAD NEVER BEEN USED TO CARRY ANYTHING HEAVIER THAN HOCKEY BAGS AND GROCERIES. THE TRUCK HAD 66,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE SPRING BROKE. IT WAS NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE LEAF SPRING DUE TO THE FACT THAT HAD I BEEN HIT THE GAS TANK COULD HAVE PUNCTURED & EXPLODED. TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER THE COST BECAUSE I WAS OVER 36,000 MILES.
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND COULD HEAR A METAL ON METAL GRINDING NOISE, HEAVY METAL RATTLE & OCCASIONAL SQUEALING NOISE WHEN I WOULD DRIVE OVER SEWER COVERS OR SMALL BUMPS ON THE ROAD. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE & WAS TOLD THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE LEAF SPRING WAS BROKEN & NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS USED AS A PASSENGER VEHICLE. THE HEAVIEST CAMPER IT TOWED WAS APPROXIMATELY 3000 POUNDS. THE TRUCK WAS RATED FOR AN 8300 POUND TOW CAPACITY. UPON INSPECTION IT APPEARED THAT THE LEAF SPRING HAD EXTREME RUST THROUGH & THROUGH. NONE OF THE TECHS AT THE DEALERSHIP HAD EVER SEEN A 3.3 YEAR OLD TRUCK PRESENT WITH THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA USA DECLINED REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIR ($970). *TR
TURN OFF VEHICLE AFTER NORMAL DRIVING WENT TO START AFTER PARKED FOR 15 MINUTES WOULD NOT START 4LO AND SLIP LIGHT ON SAT 20 MINUTES FINALLY STARTED HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE DRIVING 45 MPH SAME LIGHTS CAME ON TRUCK WOULD NOT GO OVER 35MPH TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND IT RESET IT SELF. *TR

I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 65 FROM BIRMINGHAM, AL TO FRANKLIN, TN. MY CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED AND WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH AND I HAD TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC.THE BUTTON POPPED OUT AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS STILL ENGAGED. IN ORDER TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL I HAD TO TAP THE BRAKE PEDAL. IF THE CARS THAT I WAS TRAVELING ALONG SIDE AND IN FRONT OF ME HAD STOPPED IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A ACCIDENT. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE BRAKE DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL. *TR
WAS STRUCK SIDE STRUCK BY A VEHICLE RUNNING A RED LIGHT. MY HEAD STRUCK THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW, TRANSPORTED BY FIRE & RESCUE TO LOCAL HOSPITAL. HOSPITAL DIAGNOSIS WAS A "CLOSED WOUND CONCUSSION". OTHER DRIVER WAS CHARGED ON MULTIPLE COUNTS. MECHANICS THAT REPAIRED MY TRUCK ESTIMATE THE VEHICLE THAT HIT ME WAS TRAVELLING 40-45MPH. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. IMPACT AREA ON MY TRUCK WAS FRONT DRIVER SIDE QUARTER PANEL AND FRONT LEFT TIRE. HAVE VIEWED A SIDE IMPACT CRASH TEST FOR MY MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. IN THAT TEST THE AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY AND THE DRIVER DUMMY HIT HEAD IN EXACT LOCATION AS I DID. I WOULD ASSUME THE CRASH TEST DUMMY WOULD NOT HAVE RECEIVED A CONCUSSION DUE TO THE PROTECTION FROM THE SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. ONE OF THE REASONS FOR MY PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE WAS THE SAFETY ASPECT. THE MANUFACTURER MARKETED THE AIRBAG SYSTEM AS A KEY SELLING POINT. I DID HAVE MY SEAT BELT ON AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. I CAN PROVIDE POLICE ACCIDENT REPORT, PHOTOS OF BOTH VEHICLES, REPAIR DETAIL FOR MY TRUCK AND PERSONAL DAMAGE. *TR
STICKY MASTER PASSENGER POWER WINDOW SWITCH / SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC. UPON INSPECTION PASSENGER MASTER POWER SWITCH HAD MELTED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY TUNDRA 4WD I NOTICE A GROWLING/HOWLING COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. IT CAUSES A VIBRATION AT SPEEDS FROM 15-30 MPH, IT HAPPENS IN 2WD AND THE HOWLING IS NOTICED MOSTLY DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. I HAVE TAKEN THE ISSUE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TWICE FOR THE NOISE AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TIRES I WAS USING. I SWAPPED TIRES WITH A FRIENDS TRUCK AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE. WHAT I'M HOPING IS THAT IT ISN'T SOMETHING OUT OF ALIGNMENT IN THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING OR AXLE. I WOULD HATE FOR IT TO COME APART OR LOCKUP AND PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. I SAW THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT FOR 2008 TUNDRAS FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITH STEPS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAVEN'T SEEN A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR 2010 TUNDRAS AND WANT TO KNOW IF IT EVEN EXISTS. I HOPE THIS ISSUE WILL GET LOOKED AT BECAUSE BEING TOLD "THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG" AT THE DEALERSHIP IS GETTING FRUSTRATING. I CAN'T BELIEVE A TRUCK WITH NOW 28450 MILES IS HAVING ISSUES ALREADY. I HOPE THIS ISSUE WILL BE LOOKED AT IN THE FUTURE. THANK YOU. *TR

AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING AFTER BRAKING THE TRUCK THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED A SEVERE VIBRATION THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK. IT FELT LIKE A LOOSE WHEEL. AFTER HAVING IT TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS I DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR BRAKES HAD BECOME SOMEWHAT FROZEN IN THE BRAKE SHOE BRACKET. THE PAD BRACKET IS MADE FROM A METAL THAT ROAD SALT BLISTERS AND IT BECOMES VERY ROUGH NOT LETTING THE BRAKE PARTICULARLY THE INNER PAD TO RETRACT. THE SHOE IS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE FROM THE BRACKET AND THE BRACKET HAS TO BE WIRED BRUSHED AND SANDED SO THAT THE BRAKE PAD CAN GLIDE EASILY. TWO OF MY SONS ALSO HAVE TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCKS ONE IS A 2010 AND THE OTHER IS A 2014 AND HAVE BOTH EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THEY ALSO HAD TO REMOVE THE BRAKES AND SAND THE BRACKET. THIS LOCKING OF THE PAD ALSO RUINS THE PADS CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR AND ALSO RUINS THE INNER SURFACE OF THE ROTOR. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE OF THE BRAKING ABILITY AND THE PREMATURE WEAR OF THE ROTOR AND BRAKE PADS.
