I NOTICED MY TOYOTA VENZA'S ROOF MOLDING STRIP WAS LOOSE DURING A CAR WASH. I PUT IT BACK; HOWEVER, ONE WEEK LATER THE ROOF MOLDING STRIP WAS GONE. I WENT TO DEALER, AND WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, EVEN THE MILEAGE STILL UNDER 36000 MILES. THEN I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. I BELIEVE TOYOTA SHOULD MAKE A RECALL FOR THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT BEFORE ACCIDENTS HAPPEN. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER 12V091000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH), THE BRAKE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED INDICATING A FAILURE IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST RESULTS DETERMINED A DEFECTIVE SPEED SENSOR HARNESS. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE ALL-WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION ALONG WITH THE BRAKES AND SKID CONTROL SYSTEM. THE CONTACT INQUIRED WITH THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARD TO A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA ITEM NUMBER N/A) HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ABLE TO REMEDY THE VEHICLE UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
MY 2009 TOYOTA VENZA HAD 32,116 MILES ON IT AND HAD BEEN IN THE GARAGE FOR A TUNE UP AND TIRE ROTATION/CHECK 1,000 MILES EARLIER, WITH A WRITTEN REPORT THAT THE TIRES WERE IN GOOD CONDITION WITH GOOD TIRE TREAD. ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH, ~5:00PM, I WAS DRIVING ON THE BUSY THREE-LANE 894/45 IN MILWAUKEE, WI 1.5 MILES SHORT OF THE I94 INTERCHANGE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING IN THE ROAD. CAR PULLED, BUT I AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. SAW SMOKE BEHIND MY CAR AND THE TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR CAME ON. SIDEWALL OF THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW WITH A ~10 GASH. TERRIBLE AND I WAS A BASKET CASE. BY THE TIME THE SHERIFF AND TOW TRUCK CAME, ALL TOYOTA DEALERS WERE CLOSED. HAD TO DRIVE 85 MILES TO MADISON ON THE WEE SPARE TIRE. TOOK CAR TO SMART MOTORS LAST FRIDAY WHO TOLD ME "SOMETHING MUST HAVE HIT THE SIDE". THEY SAW NO OTHER DAMAGE. I LEFT THE CAR THERE AND CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY. ADJUSTER CAME YESTERDAY. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THEY FOUND A HOLE IN THE TIRE AND THAT LIKELY CAUSED THE BLOWN TIRE, WHICH DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. CAN THAT CAUSE A BLOWN SIDE WALL AND LOUD "BANG"? SEEMS ODD THAT THEY FOUND A HOLE AFTER I TOLD THEM I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THAT AN INSURANCE ADJUSTER WAS COMING TO SEE THE TIRE. *TR
LH SUN VISOR FELL STRAIGHT DOWN BLOCKING VISION DURING TRAVEL. REPLACED LH SUN VISOR AND NOW AT 81,000 MILES THE LH SUN VISOR IS BROKEN AGAIN, THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND HAD TO BE REMOVED TO PROVIDE CLEAR VISION. SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BUY A THIRD VISOR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. LH SUN VISOR ASSEMBLY IS FAULTY. *TR
2009 TOYOTA VENZA. CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING THE BRAKE PEDAL. PRIMARILY, IF HE PARKED IN HIS DRIVEWAY, WHICH HAS A SLIGHT DOWNWARD INCLINE, THERE WERE TIMES WHEN HE ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULD BEGIN TO DRIFT BACKWARDS. AT TIMES, HE WOULD MISS HITTING THE BRAKE, TO TRY AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO SMALLER SEAT SIZE AND BODY POSITION ALIGNMENT . THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL SIZE AND DISTANCE/POSITION OF THE ACCELERATOR. *JB
I HAVE THIS CAR FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS NOW. I COMPLAIN ABOUT THE NOISE ON MY STEERING WHILE I'M TURNING THE STEERING OR DRIVING. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER IF THERE WAS A RECALL OR DEFECT ON MY CAR AND THEY ASK ME TO BRING MY CAR TO ANY DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THE CAR AND THE RESULT IS TO CHANGE THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY AND MY FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRES AT 60K MILES. MY CONCERN IS WHY THEY RECALLED THE OTHER CARS STEERING PROBLEM WHICH I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN MY CAR. EVERY TIME I LEAVE A MESSAGE TO THE MANUFACTURER THEY ALWAYS TELLS ME THEY FORWARD MY REQUEST TO THE NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS. AFTER TAKING VEHICLE INTO TOYOTA DEALER FOR RECALL 90L, VEHICLE HESITATED AFTER ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. VEHICLE ENGINE HESITATES, RPM DROPS TO IDLE SPEED 1000-1200 RPM. ENGINE UNRESPONSIVE FOR 1 TO 2 SECONDS THEN RESUMES NORMAL SPEED AND PERFORMANCE. OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY USUALLY AFTER INITIAL STARTUP AND SUBSEQUENT STARTUPS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. ON RARE OCCASIONS THE HESITATION OCCURS AT DRIVING SPEED. HAS HAPPENED EVERY DAY AT LEAST ONCE SINCE 9-6-11. TOYOTA DEALER CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND ANY PROBLEM THROUGH DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. PROBLEM RECURRED 2 MINUTES AFTER LEAVING DEALER ON THIS DATE. PROBLEM DID NOT EXIST PRIOR TO RECALL 90L BEING PERFORMED. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT HAS OCCURRED WHILE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC OR ENTERING AN INTERSECTION. *TR
TOYOTA VENZA 2009 CONSTANTLY PULLS TO THE LEFT. WHEN DRIVING ON A BUMPY ROAD IT WILL DRIFT TO EITHER SIDE AND WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKES, IT DRIFTS AS WELL. DEALERSHIPS SAY IT'S FOLLOWING CROWN OF THE ROAD, BUT IT DOESN'T-IT VEERS OFF THE ROAD. WHEN TAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE STEERING IS STIFF AND TURNS MORE TO THE LEFT THAN RIGHT. I HAVE VISITED 3 DEALERSHIPS WITH NO RESOLUTION. STRUGGLING TO KEEP CAR ON THE ROAD AND WAS VERY DANGEROUS DURING A RECENT SNOW STORM BETWEEN AVOIDING TO HIT OTHER CARS AND VEERING OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA HOTLINE AND THEY INSIST THERE'S NO PROBLEM. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. *TR
I HAVE A 3 YEARS OLD WITH 6 MONTHS CHILD. HE WAS SECURELY FASTENED USING A CAR SEAT BUT WITH THE TOYOTA VENZA BACK SEAT BELT. THE SEAT BELT WITH NO APPARENT REASON LOCKED AND MY CHILD TRY TO GET LOOSE FROM THE SEAT BELT. THE CAR WAS STOPPED WITH THE PARKING BRAKE PUSHED ALL THE WAY IN AND I TRIED TO LOOSE HIM OFF THE SEAT-BELT BUT I COULD NOT BECAUSE THE SEAT BELT GOT AROUND MY CHILD BELLY AND WAS DEPRIVING HIM OF AIR TO BREATHE. WITH NO SUCCESS AND MY SON DESPERATELY CRYING FOR HELP I HAD TO CUT THE BACK SEAT-BELT. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THESE INCIDENTS BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALL OF THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. IN MY OPINION A SEAT BELT WHICH LOCKS ITSELF AND ALMOST KILLS MY CHILD IS SUFFICIENT AS TO CHECK AND REPLACE THE SEAT BELTS. THOSE SEAT BELTS HAVE SOMETHING WRONG AND COULD MEAN A FUTURE DEATH IF NOTHING IS DONE. THESE PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT ABOUT THESE ISSUES AND WOULD NOT FILL A REPORT ABOUT THE INCIDENT, THEY WOULD ONLY ASK FOR THE $265 COST TO REPAIR THE SEAT-BELT.
THREE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING AND STAYED ON FOR 20 - 30 MINUTES UNTIL I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE (SUNNY DAY, NO RAIN): 1. SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT (P.515 - MALFUNCTION IN THE VSC OR TRAC SYSTEM). 2. BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT (P.513 - MALFUNCTION IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM). 3. ABS WARNING LIGHT (P.515 - MALFUNCTION IN THE ABS OR THE BRAKE ASSIST SYSTEM). 3. CRUISE CONTROL: A. PRESSING CRUISE CONTROL ON SWITCH WOULDN'T MAINTAIN THE SET SPEED IMMEDIATELY, BUT WOULD ACCELERATE FOR AWHILE (WITH ACCELERATOR PEDAL OFF). B. WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, ADJUSTING THE SPEED, ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING, DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT. IT'S JUMPY, WOULDN'T REACT RIGHT AWAY, NOT COMFORTABLE, NOT SAFE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME TOYOTA HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM YET I HAVE READ ONLINE VENZA OWNERS HAVE HAD A PROBLEM SINCE 2009. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED FIVE TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE STATES THERE IS A LOG WHICH RECORDED THE ERROR.
I PURCHASED A TOYOTA VENZA, AND I AM UPSET THAT TOYOTA NO LONGER INSTALL EXTENDERS ON THE SUN VISORS. THE SUN IS HITTING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER IN THE EYE, AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE WHEN DRIVING INTO THE SUN TO BLOCK OUT THE SUN IN MANY INSTANCES, THIS IS MOST ANNOYING & UNSAFE. *TR

I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA VENZA WITH A KNOCK IN THE ENGINE. TWICE THE DEALER HAS STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, THUS NOTHING TO FIX- I FIND OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING "THE PISTON SLAP" WITH DEALER REFUSING TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE NOISE WAS NORMAL. ONCE THE BUTTON IS PUSHED TO CLOSE, IT APPEARS THAT ANYTHING THAT GETS IN THE WAY WILL GET SMASHED. ENGINE NOISY WHILE AT IDLE.BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL. AS TIME WENT ON NOISE CONTINUED TO GET WORSE BY GETTING LOUDER. EACH TIME I MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALER WHILE HAVING IT SERVICED, I WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL. NOW THE NOISE IS MUCH LOUDER AND A CLATTER AND VERY ANNOYING AND EMBARRASSING. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER GARAGE AND THEY PRELIMINARILY THOUGHT IT WAS A WATER PUMP. CALLED DEALER AND REPORTED THE FINDINGS. ASK WHAT THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS AND I TOLD THEM IT WAS 65000. THEY SAID THAT IF IT WAS THE WATERPUMP , IT IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARANTEE AND WOULD BE CLOSE TO 2000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT WAS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND TRYING TO DECELERATE SHE NOTICED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. AFTER THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE IT ROLLED FORWARD AND REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THE POLICE WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THERE WERE NO DAMAGES TO EITHER OF THE VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER AND THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE FLOOR MATS CURLED UP AND STUCK BENEATH THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE FLOOR MATS HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000.
I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA VENZA V6 FWD THAT HAS AN ENGINE KNOCK EVERYDAY WHEN IT IS FIRST STARTED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT CAPITOL TOYOTA EXPLAINED THE NOISE WAS NORMAL. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE TOYOTA WOULD MAKE AN ENGINE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL BEFORE IT WARMS UP. I CONTACTED TOYOTA WHO BACKED UP THE DEALERS CLAIM WHICH I AGAIN FIND UNACCEPTABLE. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA CORPORATE STATE THE NOISE HAS TO BE EXCESSIVE ENOUGH AND THAT ALL V6 TOYOTA ENGINES DO SO. $34,000 FOR A CAR THAT SOUNDS LIKE A TRACTOR. I'M SEEKING LEGAL ADVICE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER THIRTY MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE SPARK PLUG ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR WAS LOOSE AND MADE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 9,000.
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

I WAS GENTLY ACCELERATING ONTO NJ RT. 22 EAST AT 7:40 AM ON MAY 19, 2010. VERY SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT FULL THROTTLE, EVEN AFTER I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I APPLIED FULL PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE, BUT IT KEPT ACCELERATING. I THEN APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND WHILE WEAVING IN AND OUT OF TRAFFIC AT VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED, ATTEMPTED TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF DRIVE. I DROVE ON TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID TRAFFIC. AFTER SOME COMBINATION OF BRAKING, APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL OR REVERSE, IT CAME TO A STOP. I AM NOT SURE WHEN I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN PARK, BUT I PRESSED THE IGNITION BUTTON AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS, TOOK A DEEP BREATH, AND REALIZED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE CORNER WAS PROTRUDING THE RIGHT LANE. SO AS NOT TO BE A FURTHER HAZARD TO TRAFFIC, I STARTED THE VEHICLE TO MOVE IT. A WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD TELLING ME TO "CHECK THE BRAKES WITH THE DEALER," OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT. THE SMELL FROM THE OVER HEATED BRAKES WAS VERY STRONG--STRONG ENOUGH TO PROMPT ME TO OPEN THE WINDOWS. ODDLY ENOUGH, THE CAR RAN FINE AFTER RESTARTING. IT WAS AS IF I REBOOTED THE COMPUTER. I WAS VERY CLOSE TO THE DEALER FROM WHICH I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, SO WITH THE HAZARD LIGHT BLINKING, I DROVE SLOWLY TO THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER. THEY SAID THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THEY ALSO BROUGHT IN A TOYOTA ENGINEER WHO SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THE CAR WAS RUNNING FOR LESS THAN TWO MINUTES WHEN I STOPPED TO MAKE A TURN FROM LORAIN AVENUE, SILVER SPRING MD, ONTO WESTBOUND MD 193 UNIVERSITY BLVD. I ACCELERATED TO ENTER TRAFFIC AND THE CAR TOOK OVER AND ACCELERATED TO FULL THROTTLE ON ITS OWN. THE SAME BEHAVIOR AS IF GOING INTO CRUISE CONTROL "RESUME" MODE AFTER BEING IN "COAST" EXCEPT THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES FIRMLY BUT THEY DID NOT SUFFICIENTLY SLOW THE CAR NOR DID THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RETURN TO IDLE POSITION. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND GUIDE THE CAR TO A SAFE STOP. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AT FULL THROTTLE AND THE TACHOMETER WAS WELL INTO THE RED ZONE, ABOVE 6800 RPM. THE ENGINE STOP BUTTON DID NOT STOP THE MOTOR WHEN PRESSED PER NORMAL OPERATION. ONLY WHEN I PRESSED AND HELD THE ENGINE STOP BUTTON DOWN DID THE MOTOR STOP. I PLACE THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK AND APPLIED THE FOOT BRAKE. I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE FLOOR MAT WAS ENTRAPPED IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND IT WAS NOT. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT AGAIN IMMEDIATELY REVVED TO FULL THROTTLE. I SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND LEFT IT (WITH MY CHILDREN, AGES 2 AND 6, WHO HAD BEEN THEIR SECOND ROW CAR SEATS AND WERE NOW IN TEARS). 2009 TOYOTA VENZA -VSC/TRAC . THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURED TWICE. ONCE IN A PARKING LOT AND THE OTHER AT A STOP LIGHT. IN THE PARKING LOT, I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE VSC LIGHT CAME ON. CAR WAS STUCK - IT WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. BRAKE WAS LIGHTLY APPLIED, NOT HEAVILY APPLIED. TO FIX PROBLEM, PUT CAR IN PARK AND STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. PROBLEM RESOLVED. 5 DAYS LATER, I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LIGHT AND STARTED TO LIGHTLY APPLY THE BRAKES FOR AN UPCOMING RED LIGHT. AFTER I WAS STOPPED FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS, THE VSC/TRAC LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE CAR WAS STUCK (WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD). I TRIED TAPPING BREAKS TO RELEASE, BUT ULTIMATELY HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURN OFF THE CAR AND START OVER AGAIN. IN BOTH INSTANCES, I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT HEAVILY ON THE BRAKE. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE, I WAS ON A LESS THAN 1% DECLINE AND THE 2ND INSTANCE WAS ON A FLAT ROAD - AND THE ROADS WERE DRY. I TRIED TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AT HOME, BUT FOUND THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET THE VSC LIGHT TO COME ON WAS BY HEAVILY APPLYING THE BRAKE. IN BOTH INSTANCES DESCRIBED, I HAD NOT APPLIED THE BRAKE HEAVILY AT ALL.
VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT MY FOOT ON ACCELERATOR. WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR A YEAR, AND IT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MERGING ONTO THE OHIO TURNPIKE AND DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE AND PASS A SLOW-MOVING SEMI IN FRONT OF ME. THE CAR ACCELERATED AND ONCE PAST THE SEMI I RELEASED PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL ONLY TO HAVE THE CAR CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE. DESPITE PRESSING THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW. AS I PREPARED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR I REACHED DOWN AND PULLED THE FLOOR MAT TO THE DIAGONAL CORNER OPPOSITE THE GAS PEDAL. WITH THAT ACTION THE PEDAL APPEARED TO BECOME RESPONSIVE TO PRESSURE AND THE CAR DECELERATED. MY 2009 TOYOTA VENZA HAS THE DEFECTIVE FLOORMAT PROBLEM WHICH WAS IDENTIFIED BY TOYOTA MONTHS AGO AND A RECALL ANNOUNCED. IT HAS BEEN MANY MONTHS SINCE THE ANNOUNCEMENT AND MY DEALER HAS NOT RECEIVED ANY PARTS OR FIX FOR THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. WHEN I CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATION, THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THAT AS YET THERE IS NO FIX AVAILABLE AND THEREFORE NO RECALL NOTICES HAVE BEEN SENT OUT AND THEREFORE NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE REMOVED THE FLOORMAT AS SUGGESTED BY TOYOTA, BUT MY LIGHT CARPETING IS GRADUALLY BEEN RUINED AND THE FLOORMATS WHICH I PURCHASED AT CONSIDERABLE COST ARE USELESS. I THEN TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND WAITED TO CALM DOWN FOR 3 MINUTES BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE CAR. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY REVVED TO 7500 RPM'S SO I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AGAIN. I TUGGED AND PULLED ON THE THROTTLE UNTIL IT RETURNED TO THE UP POSITION. BEING AFRAID TO DRIVE IT I CALLED TOYOTA TO COME GET ME AND THEY TOLD ME TO JUST DRIVE SAFELY HOME AND BRING THE CAR IN THE NEXT DAY. I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA VENZA. RECENTLY BY ROTATING THE WHEELS, I NOTICED THE NUTS WERE LOOSEN. SO WHEN TAKING THE WHEELS OUT, I NOTICED THAT THE DISC BRAKES WERE NOT TIGHTEN TO THE LUGS AND COULD ROLL BACK AND FORTH BY THE LITTLE BIT OF THE SPACE BETWEEN THE LUGS AND THE LUGS' HOLES. THEY WOULD BE TIGHTEN WHEN THE WHEELS WERE ON AND TIGHTEN WITH THE WHEELS' NUTS. I USE MY EDUCATED GUESS TO GUESS THAT WHEN I BRAKE THE CAR, THE DISC BRAKES WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO ROLL IN REVERSE DIRECTION OF THE WHEELS IN THAT LITTLE BIT OF THE SPACE. WHEN I BACK UP THE CAR, THEN BRAKE, AGAIN, THE DISC BRAKES WILL ROLL THE OTHER DIRECTION. THIS ACTION WILL RESULT IN LOOSING THE WHEELS' NUTS AFTER A SHORT WHILE. WE HAVE OTHER CARS FROM OTHER MANUFACTURES, AND WE FOUND THAT THEY DON'T DESIGN THE SAME WAY, WHICH THE DISC BRAKES ARE TIGHTEN TO THE LUGS ALONE. WHILE DRIVING ABS/VSC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, ALSO WARNING TO TAKE CAR TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND DESCRIBED PROBLEM OF MY 2009 TOYOTA VENZA WHICH WAS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE DUE TO SENSE THAT BRAKE WAS ON. WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP I COULD CONTINUE TO DRIVE CAR UNTIL I COULD TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY, WHERE WE WERE TOLD IT WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WE WERE PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR WHILE CAR WAS EVALUATED AND PARTS REPLACED PART 467011 BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY AND 1 47110-0T011 SUPPORT ASSY,BRAKE WE QUESTIONED NEED FOR FAILURE IN A 2009 CAR AND RESPONSE WAS THAT ON AN ASSEMBLY LINE A BAD PART WAS PROBABLY USED. WE ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE RESPONSE AND THE FAILURE OF THIS TYPE IN AN OBVIOUSLY SAFETY SYSTEM. *TR
2009 TOYOTA VENZA, APPROXIMATELY 2K MILES ON CAR. STUCK ACCELERATOR PEDAL : DRIVING ON ROUTE 3 IN DUXBURY, MA AT HIGHWAY SPEED I ACCELERATED TO PASS A CAR AND THE GAS PEDAL STUCK AT OPEN THROTTLE. I POPPED THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND THE PEDAL RETURNED TO ITS PROPER RELEASED POSITION. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY INSPECTED THE PEDAL AND RELATED COMPONENTS. NOTHING FOUND. TOYOTA FLOOR MATS ONLY WERE INSTALLED AND THEY WERE PROPERLY ANCHORED. THIS WAS NOT FLOOR MAT RELATED THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE GOING TO OPEN A "CASE" ON THE CAR. I SHOULD CALL TOYOTA 800 NUMBER AND REPORT THE PROBLEM I HAVE TRIED THE 800 TOYOTA NUMBER FOR WEEKS AND HAVE NEVER BE ABLE TO GET THROUGH. THE VENZA IS NOT PART OF THE TOYOTA RECALL, BUT MY CAR HAS THE PROBLEM ALL OTHER RECALLED TOYOTA CARS HAVE. *TW *TR
DRIVING AROUND 45 MPH WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR IT STARTS DOWNSHIFTING UNTIL IT REACHES 20 MPH AND THEN IT COASTS FREELY, GARAGE UNABLE TO FIX. *TR

ON I-77 BETWEEN COLUMBIA,SC AND CHARLOTTE, WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL ON, RUNNING ABOUT 67, IN THE PASSING LANE. AS I APPROACHED A TRUCK IN THE PASSING LANE, I TAPPED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. IT DIDN'T WORK! I PRESSED THE OFF BUTTON ON THE CRUISE CONTROL, THAT DIDN'T WORK. I TRIED PRESSING THE BRAKE AGAIN AND EACH TIME I DID, WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKE THE CAR "SHOT" OUT LIKE A ROCKET. FINALLY, I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND CUT-OFF THE IGNITION. I COULD HAVE EASILY RUN INTO THE BACK OF THE 18 WHEELER, OR ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN I RECRANKED THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE HAD DISENGAGED. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER (CHEROKEE TOYOTA), CANTON, GEORGIA. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, AND IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE FLOORMAT GOT STUCK UNDER THE ACCELERATOR. BELIEVE ME, THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED. THE FLOOR MAT HAS NEVER MOVED WHILE DRIVING. THEY NEVER EXPLAINED TO ME WHY THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE...I AM AFRAID TO USE MY CRUISE CONTROL, AND AFRAID TO ALLOW MY WIFE TO EVEN DRIVE THE VEHICLE.... *TR
DRIVING MY 2009 TOYOTA VENZA, I ACCELERATED TO PASS ANOTHER CAR, THEN LET OFF ON THE GAS TO SLOW DOWN SOMEWHAT. BUT THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I PRESSED THE BRAKES TO FORCE THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN AND -- AFTER MAYBE 10 SECONDS OF CONSTANTLY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE THE CAR TRIED TO ACCELERATE -- IT DID FINALLY SLOW DOWN AND CAME BACK UNDER MY CONTROL. THIS ONE INCIDENT OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAS NOT RECURRED. *TR
2009 VENZA, BRAKE PROBLEMS, TOOK DEALER 3 MONTHS TO CLAIM PROBLEM RESOLVED BUT I'M NOT CONVINCED THAT MY BRAKES ARE OK. I DO NOT THINK THE BRAKES ARE SAFE; I DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR. THERE IS STILL A SAFETY PROBLEM. PROBLEM MANIFESTS ITSELF PRIMARILY AT TEMPERATURES 65 OR ABOVE. *TR
